2 and 6 for the ☆ dw asks ☆ ?
2. what’s your favorite moment with your least-favorite doctor?
This took a whole lot of thought, but I am going to go with eating Fish Fingers and Custard with young Amelia.
6. favorite motif or reoccurring theme in the show?
That the Time Lords are the absolute worst, and life on Gallifrey is a repressive and abusive nightmare.
Part of why Romana is my favorite Classic companion is because her stories always have great inroads to explore how over the top awful Gallifrey is, especially in the EU.
It is an evil empire that sees itself as better than the rest of the universe, when truly literally every single resident of that miserable planet - regardless of privilege - lives in absolute abject misery. No one NO ONE AT ALL benefits from their horrifically backwards way of doing things, and yet they claim to be be the most civilized and advanced society in existence, perfect to the point where making any change at all is considered wrong.
Even after Rassilon returns and any and all veneer of anything else drops away and they fully embrace being a fascist state where the schools teach nothing but weapons making and battle strategy and the entire universe is divided into "planets that have pledged their fealty to us and we can do whatever we want to their populations" and "planets that refuse to say they are our slaves, and therefore should be wiped out of the timeline" nothing has really changed, they just are openly acting externally again for the first time in epochs.
They are THE WORST, the absolute worst, in every conceivable way. From friendship being frowned upon and almost seen as a dirty word in their society to how they steal literally everything they claim as their own cultural achievements (it is so telling, when in the audios they visit a Gallifrey were interstellar travel has not been attempted since Rassilon's time, they have no scientific curiosity or talent, just endless cruelty and an entrenched system where members of the upper classes can loose all status and become slaves either to earn their houses extra money or as punishment for stepping a foot out of line).
From the moment we see them in War Games, everything about the Time Lords is self righteous bullshit and dolling out punishment to those who refuse to conform to their endless endless laws, positioning themselves as the arbiters of justice in the universe while simultaneously being anything but. Just a place where every last resident is miserable and the founders were monsters beyond measure who set up a society so ass backwards basic psychological needs like enjoying life - taking stock of the daisiest daisy - are totally alien to their way of life. And yet, despite creating a horrible place where no one is ever happy - they are revered as Gods, as creators of the perfect ideal, above all critique or questioning.

hey after kristoph gavin planted atroquinine in a kid's favorite nailpolish, while he was spending seven long agonizing years waiting for the kid to actually poison herself, how badly do you think he pissed his dumb little blue pants when 6 years in his brother presumably out of nowhere published a song titled "atroquinine my love" and made the whole world sing it for a little while

I don't wanna further hijack that poor poll, but the thing about Harrow's schizophrenia is that it's canon. The author has confirmed it, and shared that it's based on her own experience.
It's a pretty obscure bit of canon, so of course there's no shame in not already knowing, but that's why I'm so obnoxiously persistent about letting people know.
Whatever else is up with Harrow, autism or cptsd or any number of likely headcanons, she is also schizophrenic. I feel like that's too important to be handwaved away as a difference of opinion.

okay you know what my roman empire is?
the fact that teen dan howell became a fan of/fell in love with phil when he was posting the most deranged unhinged videos on the internet. like this was pre mainstream youtube. this was before "hello guys smash that like button" youtube. teen dan howell saw this
and was like "i need to wait until i turn 18 to message this guy and stalk him". like broooo
the way people say it is like "yeah, phil was a youtuber and dan was a fan" and it makes you think that phil was like a modern day sponsor-friendly youtuber with an instagram following and a brand. but that is so detached from the truth. like youtube itself was an obscure website and like dan saw this unhinged weirdo's videos and fell in love with him. like.. ahhhhhh i am not okay

This is probably my last post on the whole “Liz is dead” situation but I want to talk about my great grandmother, who is currently 92 years old. When I was growing up, hell even now, she’d tell me a lot about her own stories, mostly about how terrifying life was under both the British Raj and Nizam rule (her side of my family is from Hyderabad - Google the Nizams and the Razakars if you’ve never heard about them, that’s a whole other thing of its own).
Something I remember very clearly is her telling me about this one song she was forced to sing in her school - she went to a Christian convent school - and the song was about the greatness of “George Prabhu and Mary Rani,” aka George V, Elizabeth II’s grandfather. Recently my mom was able to film her singing this song so that we could listen to the lyrics, which are originally in Telugu, and roughly translated it means “we’re singing in honor of George and Mary, who are the rulers of India and have brought great fortune to India, and we see them as our father and mother.”
This is just a really difficult reminder that when we’re talking about why Elizabeth II and the royal family don’t deserve our respect or condolences, many of us have very personal stories that run deep through our families. “But she was a mother, a grandmother, a person” and I don’t care because she and her family were in the business of dehumanizing and erasing the identities of millions of other mothers, other grandmothers, other PEOPLE. Why else would my great grandmother be forced to sing a song in their honor? “But she wasn’t responsible for India” fair enough, her darling grandfather had a great time doing that, but how about you go and talk to Kenya? Or anyone in Africa? Or the Caribbean? I’m sick and tired of being told to “not speak ill of the dead” when REALLY I and millions of others should be getting an apology from anyone who wants to “praise her legacy” and talk about how “revolutionary” she was.
edit: i got the george’s mixed up before. george v is elizabeth ii’s grandfather. george vi is her father.

That viral post that's going around about how people who write "book quality" mlm fic are too "normal" to publish and have real jobs so only "weird" people publish their "shitty" fanfic is so completely out of touch with reality and I am giving a massive side eye to everyone reblogging it.
Not only is it completely, easily verifiably untrue (you cannot enter any professional writing space without tripping over a dozen grizzled scifi writers who got their start by filing off the serial numbers and publishing their Star Trek fanfic even going back decades ago??? it's a whole thing?? plus how can you look at the mlm category on Amazon right now and say with a straight face that people aren't publishing shitty Spirk and Stucky fanfic??? Oh, honey...) it's also the perfect example of this kind of sneering elitism that true artists would never sully themselves by seeking profit, they do it only for the purity of the thing that always somehow leads back to, "no one should be paid to make art, actually."
The only reason you're seeing more published fanfic right now has nothing to do with the idealistic purity of your hypothetical government employee written smut of the past vs the debased scribbles of those awful straights of today and everything to do with the fact that a) self-publishing has created a voracious readership that wants a ton of content so it's become a viable, flexible income stream for many, especially disabled people b) anyone can publish now with self-publishing tools so there are less gatekeepers and c) lockdown got a lot of people into fandom and therefore writing who never tried it before.
And if you really think there's no "shitty" published mlm and no "book-quality" m/f writing out there that started as fanfic, then you are clearly not a reader so why are you even talking about this?

I’ve watched FMAB a thousand times but Greed’s death STILL gets me every fucking time. 1. Him realizing that Ling is going to get hurt and possibly killed by Father if Greed doesn’t leave his body, 2. Greed coming to terms with the fact that he’s definitely going to get killed by Father but he’s willing to make the sacrifice for Ling, and 3. Greed discovering that what he wanted was what he had the entire time, and that was true friends who would stick with him through thick and thin, who would share the same experiences and failures and triumphs and still love him despite his homunculus status. I’m so.
Also I’m SO pissed at the fact that Pride got to live but Greed didn’t. In my brain I kept saying “Well yeah I guess it makes sense for all of the homunculi to die bc they came from Father and HE has to die” but then I remembered that Pride LIVES and that makes me so salty. Out of all the homunculi Greed deserved to live the MOST AND I JUST. FUCKIGN.

"you need not have come to my defense" except dream LOVES it because in that moment Hob is a knight protecting his king and Dream hasn't had anyone fight on his behalf before because he doesn't wage wars, he doesn't reap he creates but to have someone stand up and fight for him even though HE DOES NOT NEED IT makes him smile that little smile and realize that he loves seeing someone fight for him, seeing HOB fight for him, defending him in a way no one has before even though he need not come to his defense. he need not!! but he does. in this essay i will

Really wanna make a VN about mechs and AI copilots and plurality and dysphoria and humanity and identity and the experience of inhabiting a body that is not your own and sharing that body with someone who knows every facet of your being and you know every facet of their being and you both love each other for and despite it and you help each other break out of the shackles of a future capitalist militaristic dystopia with your shared metal and flesh body
