Satoru, Suguru, Sukuna, and Choso in a Rock Band AU... I need my brain to shut up about this and I need to quell my thirst!
✨ masterlist ✨
Tumblr media
I could have used J-Rock artists as prime reference, but... listening to my own playlist got me into this mess.
The band lineup in my head:
Sukuna on Drums
Choso on Bass Guitar
Suguru as Lead Guitarist & Main Backup Vocalist
Satoru as Rhythm Guitarist & Lead Vocalist
All of them can scream sing and growl, but...
Sukuna is the best at death growling + gutturals. Think Nergal from Behemoth.
Choso is a false chord scream king. Plus, for some reason, he sings like Corey Taylor in my head.
Suguru is 100% a pro at fry screaming. Also sings like Alex Varkatzas probably.
Satoru probably screams and growls like Andy Biersack or sings like M. Shadows or David Draiman... I can't decide. Although, can 100% picture him belting out The Vengeful One.
Anyways...
Satoru and Suguru are power duo lyricists... Like, they're so good at writing songs together. The themes in each album always defer, but they're really good at hammering in a message (subtle or overt) into every song.
Also also, picture Satoru and Suguru singing into a mic onstage, taking the entire crowd hostage with those never-declining face cards, fingers flawlessly gliding over the frets, pressing on the strings, playing their guitars in perfect harmony. 😩 LAWRD HELP ME, I WANT THEIR TONGUES IN MY MOUTH. 😭
Them playing these guitar solos on 3:21 - 3:55... Satoru doing rhythms at 3:21 and Suguru comes in at 3:36...
youtube
From debut, Satoru became extremely popular for never showing people his full face. The fans have never seen his eyes. Yes, he performs with a blindfold on, and during interviews, his eyes are always covered by his signature dark sunglasses.
His eye reveal was in a music video. It played a part skyrocketing the band's fame. And when the band performed live after that music video, Satoru is playing onstage without a blindfold or sunglasses on. Cue the infinite rizz.
Fans always rave that Satoru looks so innocent and cute when his eyes are on full-display (man belongs in a romcom movie) and he's not performing or screaming like a demon into the microphone.
Even after the eye reveal, Satoru still performs with a blindfold on most of the time, and he takes it off with extra flair and drama when the fans ask for it during a concert.
Satoru is very playful when interacting with fans -- a far cry from his onstage persona.
Also, fans are so tickled and pleased that for all his screaming and growling in songs and concerts, Suguru is actually very soft-spoken when he's just talking normally.
Suguru has a tongue piercing and the sexiest dragon tattoo sprawled across his back.
Need I mention the fans love the way Suguru says Satoru's name? Even in this AU, the fans ship SatoSugu. 😝
Suguru is also the one band member who gives insightful answers during interviews. Like, it's always deep with him, much to Choso and Satoru's amusement, and Sukuna's irritation.
Speaking of Sukuna...
Sukuna never wears a shirt during concerts. He has tattoos and he's showing them off like no one's business. Imagine him pounding at those drums, tattooed face, chest, and arms in full display, eyes blazing, tongue out and everything. [DON'T YOU WANT TO LICK HIM? 😜]
Sukuna's the drummer, but he has a microphone too, because he's the best at death growling and they have songs where they get into that.
No one plays drums like Sukuna can. It's a running gag in their fandom that Sukuna had four arms in another life because how in the fuck can he do what he do?
Sukuna is also famous for getting shit-faced before an onstage performance. For some reason, he plays perfectly fine even when he's inebriated or high. It's a flex! 😩
By contrast, Choso and Suguru eat super healthy.
Satoru is always on a sugar-high. Did we expect anything less?
Satoru and Suguru will write really dark songs and they will hand over the vocals to Sukuna, because it fits him so well. Kinda like this:
Satoru may be lead vocalist on paper, but all the boys in this band can sing, and they're all hot when they do it. 😝
The fans love it when Choso goes apeshit on the microphone. I imagine him singing this and it's a treat every fucking time!
Choso is baby. 😝 He's so cute and always looks out for everyone behind the scenes. The band has filmed backstage documentaries before, and the fans who've seen those love Choso so much because he takes care of all the members.
Choso plays bass and each time he has a solo in the song, it's a guaranteed eargasm. 😩🙏 Can he finger me the way he fingers that bass please?
Choso is so sweet to the fans... Always gives them attention even when he's not supposed to. (e.g., when he leaves his house and he finds them outside the gate). He just can't be mean!
Satoru and Suguru are fan service kings! Like during concerts, they don't shy away from getting super close to the crowd. They're also multi-tasking kings, because imagine playing an instrumental solo, singing, and doing crowd work at the same time.
The four of them are trolls! Satoru and Sukuna are the biggest trolls and menaces. Suguru goes along with whatever Satoru wants, and Choso tries and fails to be responsible.
They are well aware of the baseless rumors around their songs and performances (that they're spawns of hell, they worship the devil, etc.), and they play into it to annoy the haters some more and give them fodder. Hate comments are free publicity apparently.
Dating any one of them will either be fun and chill, or just outright chaos. No in-between.
I don't think Sukuna would date anyone though. He strikes me as a pump-and-dump type of man. Hooking up with him means a grand time in the sheets, but it's only good until he gets bored. After he gets bored, it's done. Bye!
Choso would treat you right, no questions. He makes time and does whatever you want to do. You want to workout with him? Okay! You want your own personal concert? Why, of course! You want time for private getaways? He's booking first class plane tickets to a vacation destination of your choice. You want to learn how to play bass guitar? "Come here, Darling. Let me show you."
With Satoru and Suguru, it's a toss up. Mostly because I think it will have to take someone super special (a person who isn't easily cowed and who loves either of them so much) to get either of them to fall in love. When they fall in love with their S/Os though, they're all in.
Dating Satoru or Suguru in this situation means having rock songs written about you. It's one of their love languages in this AU.
I also don't know what their band would be called. 😝

So we know your thoughts about Aaravos and Callum, what are your thoughts about the Mage fam?
I haven't thought of them in a long time and also I had no idea what mage fam meant until you told me it's team rocket I mean claud sore and lord virginia's family wheezes
Tumblr media
Um... Huh.... I don't know if I wanna make this another lengthy answer so I'll do my best to make it brief...
Keep reading if you're ready to see me lose my sanity again. If not then just look at this cute Cally and Aary doodle of them trash talking "someone" You know you love them.
1. I will never understand viren's motivation nor do I love him as a character. . . Actually nah... "do not love" is still putting it very mildly. I despises the cartoony villain vibe that they wrote for him. I think he coulda been a better written villain but I just...hmgggggg the writing pisses me off. I would be smiling with genuine happiness if he's dead for real this season. I see no appeal in him. Fuck that guy.
2.Claud...
I sorta? understand her...but i feel like I don't ...like her as much as I should...Is it the gas lighting...? Is it the very cringe romance they wrote for her and Cally? Is it just something part of her personality that I don't...like??? No idea. I read something here about how she was murdered as a character (albeit I don't really notice it but if you say so I suppose???) I'll tell you what though I really wanna see her becoming the main villain of the show. She will be a very compelling villain in my opinion. It's all gonna be super fun with her.
#freeaaravosfrombeingcalledavillainofthiscursedshow
Also they missed out the chance to do what is in my opinion one of the most interesting dynamic in this entire show: Raydia.
Tumblr media
I'm not a huge fan of shipping nor do I go around spilling things about ships but I see so much potential in these two it's baffling like why didn't the writers go for this duo? They'd be fun as heck girlfriends - or just besties for now if romance isn't on the table yet WHICH I DON'T CARE FOR EITHER WAY, just give them a chance man.
They have so much to play off each other like daddy issues, their own very strong views the world, that sweet sweet enemies to besties/lovers trope is going on strong here. PLUS THEY'RE SUPER DUPER GOOD AT WHAT THEY DO AND IT'S AMAZING. Like bruh callum was BARELY an enemy they're like chill after 2 days I cannot --- *face palm* anyways... She's semi wasted in that aspect.
Soreeeeee-n
By far the only character in this show that hasn't been a running mouth piece for the writers very bad, overly-simplified view of good and evil
(except for that one episode in season 3 where he's like "someone who tell you to do something bad and convince you it's good is a villain" like woah woah woah woah hold the phone okayyyyyyy this line applies to viren and VIREN only. Because in the context of Aaravos the man just really wanna get tf outta jail does ANY OF YOU KNOW WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO BE LOCKED IN FOR 300 YEARS?! uh nope cause YOU WOULD HAVE DIED A LONG TIME AGO AFTER LOOSING YOUR DAMN MIND. So to me when he says this it felt like the writers are putting words into his mouth and trying to foreshadow or tell the viewers that oh yea aaravos is TOTALLYY A VILLAIN NO- like fuck that shit ohmygod - if it's been 300 years and the only way out you can see is feeding to a terrible man's ego in order to get him to do what you need YOU FUCKING TAKE IT. That doesn't make you a villain that makes you more of an enabler. AND IT'S NOT LIKE HE CAN DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT IF VIREN CHOSE TO NOT LISTEN TO HIM SO POINT. AARAVOS. I can think of like 5 different ways where Cally can turn the situation viren was put in with aaravos into something fun, wholesome AND DEFINITELY WOULD NOT FRAME AARAVOS AS A BAD PERSON AT ALL fuck-)
hasn't received arguably a lot of special treatments in order to make him look good and is the only character I understand the most. He's overall well-written and I love him very much. I think he should receive more love and be appreciated a bit more by the people around him. Most of his action makes sense to me and that is all I need to put him as my most favorite canonically speaking.

Thoughts about Sophies and Oralies relationship? What will happen? Are they going to be friends again? Will they become a mother-daughter duo?
I've been wanting to talk about this for a while so thank you for giving me a window anon! And ignore the fact that you asked this over a month ago in my eyes it has been merely a day
(and on a side note if I take a while to answer an ask please don't let that deter you from sending them! I promise I am incredibly honored with every ask I receive and am working on it slowly but surely)
Okay there is A LOT so I'm putting it under a cut
tl;dr: Both Sophie and Oralie messed up involving their relationship, but I think they're going to make up before the end of the series.
Sophie and Oralie's relationship is a really controversial topic everywhere in the fandom, and it's easy to understand why. From where I see it, the two main arguments are either "Sophie completely overreacted and Oralie was 100% in the right" or "Oralie's a jerk who ruined Sophie's life and Sophie had every right to get mad." (Obviously these are exaggerations, not calling anyone out in particular)
(LOL this reminds me of one time I made friends with like a 9-year-old girl -I think I was 16ish- who liked KOTLC, and I had Kenric and Oralie on my phone case at the time, so I showed her my case and she literally took my phone, punched the spot where Oralie was and walked away, never to speak to me about KOTLC again
Anyway back to the analysis)
But as I see it, neither of them was entirely in the right.
As someone who loves both Sophie and Oralie, I think it's a very complicated situation to which neither of them reacted the best way. In Sophie's defense, she did have every right to be upset, even angry. She'd known this woman for what, two years (ish??? I think?) at this point and never once had any indication that she was her biological mother. I would be very angry about that, and I have a stable family situation, unlike Sophie. Sophie's a teenager who's been through a lot of trauma, especially family-related trauma. She had every right to have the reaction she did.
And as much as I love Oralie, I can say without any hesitation that she had a bad reaction to Sophie finding out. There's more about why I think she reacted this way below, but she just kind of froze. Didn't really apologize, didn't explain, just went... hmm, might we say numb??? (*cough cough hint hint*) Not exactly a good way to convince your daughter that you care about her.
BUT I also think that Sophie's reaction to Oralie was a culmination of all of her frustration and anger about the whole situation. She deserved to be mad at Oralie, specifically, but she was also taking out a lot of her anger on Oralie. Because Oralie was a really easy person for her to take it out on. She 1) had been there all along and saw what Sophie went through, 2) had just participated in a highly emotional situation with Sophie in which she was encouraging Sophie to be honest and 3) didn't really fight back.
However, as justified as Sophie's original reaction was, I think she's purposefully holding onto her hatred at this point in the story. I'm not blaming her -I actually think this makes a lot of sense- but there have been many times when Oralie's cried or gotten emotional about Sophie/Kenric/whatnot (she's a very emotional person and I love her for it alright) and Sophie's gone like "sympathy what no I can't feel sympathy I'm reminding myself that I hate her". This is fascinating to me, how she's been betrayed so many times by people she cared about that she doesn't want to let herself believe that Oralie actually cares about her.
And then there's the whole thing about why Oralie reacted that way. She has actively shown how much she cares about Sophie at every opportunity she really could, so why did she not try to convince her daughter about how much she really loves her?
I think it boils down to two things: fear and being an Empath. If Kenric hadn't died, I honestly think that she would have told Sophie the truth much earlier in the series. But after he died, she was scared that she'd lose more people she loved, and purposefully tried to help Sophie while putting up more of a wall between them.
I think Mr. Forkle's death contributed to that as well. In the Nightfall-Flashback era, Oralie is in like two scenes in total. She'd lost one person she loved, and then watched Sophie lose someone she cared about. Oralie blamed herself a lot for Mr. Forkle's death, since he did die to protect her (their relationship is fascinating to me). After that, Oralie put up even more of a distance between herself and Sophie- not because she didn't care. Because she'd watched two people who she cared about die in horrible, violent ways, and the last thing she wanted was for that to happen to her daughter. It was easier to put distance between them, especially since the Council had just been targeted. If there wasn't an obvious relationship between them, the Neverseen wouldn't use Sophie to punish Oralie, as a Council member.
And then there's the fact that she's an Empath. It's obvious from her relationship with Kenric (especially *that scene* in Unlocked that I will never recover from) that she is a pro at hiding her emotions. As an Empath, she has to be. But my theory is that Empaths have to hide their emotions well, but over time, they forget how to use the emotions they've hidden- kind of like a minor version of what happened to Vespera.
I legitimately think that Oralie forgot how to care about Sophie- and not that she ever didn't care about Sophie, she just knew she couldn't actively show her support, so she tried to act more as a Councillor than she did as a mother. She's pushed that side of herself down for so long, not wanting anyone to find out that she's Sophie's mother because of the drastic repercussions that could have, that she's forgotten how to use it. She's used her Councillor guise to protect Sophie for so long that she forgot how to stop using it.
Oralie's helping Sophie with the caches and with finding out what Kenric hid, as emotionally painful as it was for her, is a strong sign that she is trying so hard to care. She's realizing that she can't be a Councillor and a mother at once, as much as she tried (WOAH Y'ALL the parallels to Shannon's own life :| projecting on her characters, she's just like us). That's why she had such a dramatic switch in Stellarlune. The personality swap, the outfit change, the secret office... it's all her trying so desperately to prove to Sophie that she's willing to stop being a Councillor to show her that she cares.
And Sophie still doesn't believe her. It makes sense under the circumstances, but I think both of them are going to regret this.
(subtly transitions into what's probably going to happen in the next book)
I think it's going to take the revelation of Oralie's secret for their relationship to actually heal. Whether Oralie's forced to reveal it herself, someone else reveals it, or it's discovered against her will, I am like 99.6% sure that it's going to be revealed to the world. There wouldn't be such drama around the whole "knowing your parent's identities could topple the world" thing if just that wasn't going to happen.
When Oralie's identity is revealed, Sophie's going to have to make a choice: To stand with her or against her. And I think she's going to stand with her. Because as angry as she is, Oralie is not her enemy. She's a flawed, broken person who's made both good and bad choices- just like Sophie herself. I think Sophie's matured enough by this point to realize that.
There's probably going to be an emotional scene where they make up- and a strong likelihood that this scene happens as Oralie is dying. I described in detail why I think she's going to die here so I won't explain it too much, but it would honestly be just like Shannon to make a super dramatic, emotional scene as Oralie is dying where they finally make up and end on a good note before she dies.
But as much as the angst-loving part of me would eat that up, I also think it would be amazing for them to become a girlboss mother-daughter duo and just like defeat Neverseen members together. I think between these two options, it depends on how late Oralie's identity is revealed. If it's late in the story, like right before the final battle or something, the first is more likely. However, if it occurs early in the final book(s) then I believe it's likely that they do have a good friendship for a while before the book ends.
If Oralie doesn't die, I think she and Sophie will remain friends. Sophie won't call her Mom, and Oralie won't be offended by that, but they'll still have a solid, deep relationship. I can picture Oralie being in the audience at her Foxfire graduation, the two of them having lunch together, Sophie taking her to the Forbidden Cities and showing her where she grew up. At that point, Oralie will likely have sacrificed something major for Sophie (probably her Councillor position) and Sophie will know that, even if she doesn't see her as a mother, Oralie really does care for her.
KOTLC is all about how your family isn't just who you're related to, it's who you choose. So how poetic would it be if it ended with Sophie and Oralie deciding what their relationship will be? They won't be mother and daughter, but they've bonded to have a beautiful friendship despite all the hardship and pain.

Some thoughts on Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser after finishing the first 3 volumes:
Before I go on, would I recommend FnGM: Yes but don't read every story. I have completionist brain when it comes to media, do not be like me, read the ones everyone recommends. A short list would be Ill Met in Lankhmar, Jewels in the Forest, Thieves' House, Bazaar of the Bizarre, Lean Times in Lankhmar, and Stardock. If I do a reread, it'll look a little like that.
FnGM makes a really bad first impression. The Snow Women, and frankly a lot of FnGM stories, are unusually misogynistic even for their time period. The Snow Women has parts I would generally recommend, but I can't, because they're enmeshed with the most intense hate wife bullshit that it shunts me out of the narrative constantly. This is a repeated problem in the stories, with not infrequent rape threats, treating women extremely badly, and just being generally fucking awful? I know FnGM are supposed to be bad people but this is literally everyone in every story all the time. If you're doing a FnGM read, I would recommend skipping The Snow Women, Claws from the Night, Their Mistress The Sea, and the last two books entirely. Those are the worst offenders.
Instead of that, you should start with Ill Met At Lankhmar, which is the first story in the collection order that is both well written and not pointlessly offensive. It's a banger! And it sets the stage for what's so good about FnGM anyhow: two shitty rogues who are a little too witty, fucking up despite their competence. When FnGM shines, this is usually what it's doing. I don't even recommend swinging back to read the first stories later, although the ski fight at the end of Snow Women IS pretty cool.
Leiber's prose is as good as people say it is. I think it's a lot like Moorcock's prose where it's a little annoying by default, until it's ON, and then it's some truly stellar prose that you will remember for a LONG time, and then you fall in love with the default prose too.
Swords Against Death is easily the best single volume of FnGM. It contains the most iconic FnGM stories and it really shows the duo doing their best schtick in the best way. For my money, Jewel in the Forest is my favorite story. That probably says something about me (that I'm really into weird, mindbending, abstract big reveals and care very little about swordplay).
People sleep on The Cloud of Hate. It rocks. It's helped by its short page count, it could've easily gone on past its worth. It doesn't, so the metaphor lasts JUST long enough to feel really cool. Absolutely no idea how you'd use it in a TTRPG, despite my reflex to do so.
Lean Times in Lankhmar feels like a Pratchett novel built for me. I don't really like Pratchett? It always feels like he's taking an extremely long time to say anything and then when he finally says what he wants to say, it's an anticlimax, and the joke doesn't land for me? Anyway, LTiL's pagecount is brief enough that it doesn't do that. If every Pratchett book was like this, I'd be a big Pratchett fan.
I genuinely can't get over Their Mistress The Sea. It's only 5 pages but it has the single most grotesque line in the first three books, which is to the effect of "maybe the witches are mad they weren't raped?" Between this and the pedophilic predilection of Mouser in the later stories, one wonders about Leiber. He says Fafhrd is based on him and Mouser is based on a friend and MAN that is an awful thing to say about someone. I also, disagree, from what i know of the man he was more like Mouser. So.
On the whole, a neat series. Deserves classic status. I need to say "do not read them all, do not read them in order" again, because you really really shouldnt do that. I think I narrowly prefer Elric? I think I'd prefer FnGM in the "Leiber respects women" timeline.

only the option with the lowest pertentage will be eliminated! the rest go on to round 3. propaganda under the cut (and more always welcome!):
jason grace and piper mclean:
So. Hera/Juno put a bunch of fake memories in Piper’s head of a months long relationship with Jason. However plot and stuff happens and they end up dating for real. Except no they didn’t. In the next series Apollo goes to them to ask for help and finds out they’ve broken up. Then there was a death prophecy that for once was actually fulfilled (RIP Jason). Finally at the end of ToA Piper was seen kissing a girl and your choice how to interpret that. Got together because a goddess shipped them. Broke up because they realised they were gay.
chrissie cunningham and eddie munson:
Had the CUTEST SCENE IN THE ENTIRE SHOW where they flirted and he tried to sell her drugs but then SHE GOT MURDERED and it was tragic
the joker and harley quinn:
They were a thing. She left his toxic ass for a cool plant lady. Good for her.
alec hardy and ellie miller:
They're your classic workplace enemies to lovers. Alec takes the job that Ellie was meant for, they're forced to work together on a devastating murder case, they bond. Over three series Alec becomes more human and lets his walls down around Ellie, and she begins to respect and trust him as a colleague and as a friend. Its a Big Deal when they hug. In most cases, especially when it's an m/f detective duo, they would end up together. But yet. Thee David Tennant and Olivia Coleman did not even have an aborted kiss or feelings confession. Neither of them end up with anyone else but they don't hint at anything at the end either. Queer Ally of all time David Tennant does straightbait ironically.
sam winchester and eileen leahy:
The last season set them up to be together, and then in Sam’s finale flash-forward, they replaced her with “blurry wife” literally a random blurred out woman rather than having him end up with Eileen Eileen is the coolest Supernatural character: she's deaf and also formerly dead (like Sam)
tan:
ok so it's complicated? like he's the lead love interest in a show that was very explicitly marketed as queer but I'm calling him straightbait because he literally straightbaits like every character in the show? So there's this girl (Jane) and everyone jsut assumes that he's dating her? Like she gets (spoiler!) murdered in ep 1 and the police are like "the body was found by the victim's boyfriend" and they mean Tan. Bun the main character drunkingly kissed Tan in the first episode as well and then saw Tan and Jane at an event holding hands and he was like....... wow this is awkward and also is he cheating on her with me??? (he was best friends with Jane). Anyways like this continues with Tan being under suspicion for Jane's murder because he's was her lover apparently and Bun is like living with this guy now and Tan is like laying it on thick about his attraction towards Bun but Bun is still suspicious and then Bun's talking to one of the kids that Jane and Tan taught and the kid is like "yeah so Miss Jane's boyfriend...." and Bun is like "right, Tan." and the kid is like "what??? mr tan never dated miss jane she was with this other guy." and Bun is confused (rightly) until like a few episodes later or so they're staring at their red string board and Tan is like "yeah so I was literally never with Jane we were just good friends" and is then also implied to be like gay as well so he's not even bi. Which ok straightbait over right? Wrong! Jane's actual boyfriend gets murdered and Tan gets arrested for it and he's like "what motive do I have to kill him??" and the police are like "well you two were fighting over Jane's love clearly" and he just kinda scoffs and smirks with a whole "these idiots have no idea that i'm currently planning on how to propose to my boyfriend of like a week" but just doesn't say anything?!?!?!?! he actively makes himself more suspicious and a greater target by pretending to be straight instead of just being like hey guys you know I was just buddies with Jane right? and i'm currently hooking up with the doctor who keeps giving you guys problems?? Anyways he's not straightbait in the sense that it was any surprise to the audience that he ended up with a boyfriend. but he did pretend to be straight for no real reason and literally endangered himself by doing so (this universe didn't seem to have like any actual homophobia stuff)
bruce wayne and selina kyle:
So a while back there was a whole thing about their wedding with SO much buildup. Like a whole mini series, a couple arcs in the main batman run, Superman and Nightwing threw him a bachelor party. Then when it was time for them to get married Selina fuckin left him at the altar. She left him at the altar man
luke skywalker and leia organa:
The idea of Luke and Leia was used in advertisements but they obviously decided not to do that. IT’S SO FUNNY. Like, I think this is the closest white straight people will ever get to ‘they were cousins’ing a couple. I looked up advertising to see if it was just in the movie proper or it WAS used to sell it and https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5z1SziDPKQw&t=118s&pp=2AF2kAIB ‘Luke and Leia: in danger, in love, in Star Wars’ is going to be one of the things that rolls around in my head for ages. It’s not just the whole ‘het love triangle advertises 2nd pairing that everyone knows won’t happen’ like Twilight, it’s the backpeddaling ‘no no it can’t happen, they’re actually siblings! It’d be weird! Ignore the ‘good luck’ kiss and the ‘I’ll be back’ kiss in the medbay and of course the full on make out session scene that happened! And even our own advertising’ Of it all.‘
kagome higurashi and inuyasha from inuyasha:
Long time until they get together, with teasing moments
good luck everyone! now go vote!

10 Characters I Fell In Love With In 2022
I did this last year and really liked looking back on everything, so I'm bringing it back. In no particular order...
1. Hei Fengxi/Feng Lanxi - Who Rules The World.
Tumblr media
He's sweet, he's intelligent, he's graceful, he's cunning, he's loyal, he's got childhood trauma that makes him lead a double life... He's the whole package! (He's also Yang Yang which is a delightful bonus). I love that through the course of the story he gets to shift his place within his family to align with his actual skills, even if the reveal is a hard one, and reevaluates his ambitions and desires along the way.
2. Liu Yihuan - Love and Redemption.
Tumblr media
I started LaR with a built in soft spot for Hao Chen because Liu Xueyi, but after hearing the backstory drop of Sifeng's cellmate in episode 7 I was intrigued, and every other appearance of Liu Yihuan since has replaced him as my favourite. He goes back and forth between supportive da-ge to jaded dad, and whenever someone shows up at his door for help he is Just So DONE with it all but helps anyway. If you're anything like me and love to tell your show's characters they're being idiots when they go off on their noble self-sacrificing tangents, you'll also love Liu Yihuan because he calls them idiots to their face. Because he cares.
3. Teng She - Love and Redemption.
Tumblr media
He must have been such a fun character to play for Bai Shu, because he is one hell of a fun character to watch. You never once forget that he's a snake enjoying the perks of a human form and is out to have the best time he can. I spent a good couple of months absolutely hating Chu Xuanji and Sifeng for their initial treatment of Teng She (RIP @gaiahenshin who got to hear all about it in real time) which goes to prove how great he is as a character if he can threaten your good opinion of the main duo!
4. Meng Zhi - Nirvana in Fire.
Tumblr media
Holy shit, I could fill this entire list with characters from NiF. So in an effort to save some room for other characters, I've reluctantly chosen just one (how do you choose?? *sobs*) - Meng Zhi, an absolute puppy-dog of a man with no poker face to speak of and a heart of gold. He shows that not every character has to be a genius to be valuable to the story, and his interactions with Feiliu are the absolute best.
5. Lee Bag Won - My Country: The New Age
Tumblr media
I love how he's introduced with sympathy as the hardworking son who is unappreciated by his father, and then chooses to make that his villain story. By the time he turns his hand to betraying his family to get what he believes he's owed, the audience has already been moved to his plight, so he doesn't come across as a flat baddie, but instead a complex character. And he does it all so, so well.
6. Xiao Jingyan - Nirvana in Fire
Tumblr media
Ok I lied. I couldn't stop at just one character from Nirvana in Fire, and Xiao Jingyan has too much of my heart not to gush about. In contrast to Lee Bag Won, in Xiao Jingyan we get to see the unappreciated son be rewarded, although it takes a lot of help to get there. But it's his strength of morals even when things look like they'll never change for him that is what sets him apart. Even appearing cold on the surface, his relationships with his men, his mother, Mei Changsu and Mu Nihuang that prove that he's only cold because he's been hurt, and who can resist a man like that? Also, Wang Kai is gorgeous.
7. Kang Yohan - The Devil Judge.
Tumblr media
When you present me with a character that looks fantastic in a suit with a voice to match, is scarily competent at his job, talks affectionately to his robot butler and is awkwardly afraid of his teenage neice, I'm going to adore him. His pathos is so well balanced by his weaknesses in a great example of Korean drama writing, and makes his journey such an emotional rollercoaster to follow.
8. Gu Ying - Tientsin Mystic.
Tumblr media
Even in a show with Zhang Mingen in it, what I loved the most about Tientsin Mystic was the depth and strengths given to it's female leads. They may have needed rescued once or twice, but also were the rescuers just as often. Embodying part of the 'mystic' side of the story, Gu Ying was written as exuberant and whimsical, but thankfully not goofy or simple because of it. Her fight skills and her knowledge were just as valuable as everyone else's, and - spoiler for the end of season 1 - it was refreshing to see her turn out to be the 'fated child' rather than Guo Deyou. And she had some absolutely fantastic outfits.
9. Yu Xiao Gang "Grandmaster" - Douluo Continent.
Tumblr media
Although Douluo Continent was less memorable than other shows I watched in 2022, it's characters were lovely to follow. Much like Liu Yihuan, Yu Xiao Gang is another grumpy recluse who is over the whole young person's drama happening around him, but drawn into the middle of it anyway due to caring too much about the protagonist to let them wander off without any guidance. I very much appreciate dramas that have this category of character as I'm at an age where I can no longer identify with the coming-of-age type of main character, but still like them enough to want to shake some sense into them, and these sarcastic mentors get to do it for me.
10. Su Mengzhen - Heroes.
Tumblr media
I haven't finished Heroes yet due to not having the bandwidth for it's levels of tragedy, but the gravitas of Su Mengzhen (and the beauty of Baron Chen's swagger and real hair) deserve to make the list, especially because starting the show this year means he wont be eligible for next year's list. He makes a big impression showcasing his skill, his drive and his illness right off the bat to make your heart start to break for him from the very beginning. I'm very much looking forward to being ruined by the rest of this show in 2023.
Tagging @gaiahenshin @psychic-waffles @xcziel @dongfangqingcang @eirenical @faradheia @nope4ever and anyone else who is interested, but no pressure!

ok so. u introduced me to her so: Jane x Sawyer. 1, 4, 5, 8, 13, 15, 16 18, 23, 26, 42, and yes i may have put The Numbers in there just because. (jk jk u don't have to answer them all!!!)
YEEESSSS
How do they fall asleep? Wake up? Any daily rituals? Once they're established, nothing too structured. Fall into bed together/separately whenever their schedule allows. Pre-get-together and from the start to in the middle of their time on the Island, they got to be enough of a unit together that it was hard for them to get rest without checking in on the other one. For a week after Sawyer 'confronted' his father, he would settle in next to her just because he needed some physical reassurance that his rock was there if he needed her.
4. - First impression of each other? Was it love at first sight? Not at all. It was really just annoyance at first sight. She didn't like his attitude at all, meanwhile her being a cop was aallllll the information he needed to roast her at all costs- including spreading the lie that they were married so people would hate her by association.
5. Nicknames? Pet names? Any in-jokes? As the nickname king who wouldn't leave her alone, Sawyer gave her a lot. She was Blue first because of the streak in her hair, then when he found out she was a cop it started off as "Copper" then evolved to "5-0" (Jane liked 5-0 a lot more), and then once she started giving him the time of day/admiting he had wormed his way into a friendship, "J.P." She mostly just stuck with Sawyer, except post-confrontation mentioned in #1 where he spills his guts and admits his name is James, to which she called him that for that week, and then any time they needed to have a serious conversation. They didn't really have in-jokes.
8. - What do the like best about their partner? For Sawyer, Jane takes no shit and can keep up with his wit. For Jane, once season 3 rolls around and he's revealed to not be a jerk, she also appreciates that he takes no shit/can be decent enough when he needs to be. Also she low key thinks he's hilarious but she'd never admit it to anyone else.
13. What do they do for fun? Do they have a favorite activity or do they like to switch things up? No real specifics. If anybody needs anything they'll just go out as a duo because strength in numbers/ that's their partner in crime and they don't want to leave them out / be left alone with everyone else.
14) Anything they both dread? Around season 2/3, it's losing each other in general or losing each other's trust, again, considering the confrontation and Sawyer realizing he doesn't have many other people, and Jane was just worried that everyone would just immediately believe she worked for Ben the entire time despite being one of the defacto leaders of the Survivors/being decent to everyone else before that.
15. How adventurous are they? Very. In any sense of adventurous there is 😏
16. Do they keep secrets? Lie? Cheat? Mostly just show plot-relevant ones. Sawyer kept his past from her until he was bursting at the seams with the need to tell Someone about it, and he'd be damned if it was anyone but her who heard it. And when Jane had to play double agent between the Survivors and Ben's people, she kept the actual details that it wasn't by choice under wraps to keep him and the others safe - so she's relieved when it turns out Sawyer didn't believe she backstabbed them at all anyway. And not cheating per se, but more like spiritual cheating. She's got the love triangle with him and Jack, and while she returns to the mainland and starts believing the idea of getting Sawyer back is a lost (ha) cause, and she needs to move on, she chooses Jack/they actively have a relationship, but once they go back to the Island and Sawyer's revealed to be alive and well, Jack and Jane both know that they've basically run their course as a couple ad there's really no competition. But they both know there's still some love between them, even if its become mostly platonic. They still figure they're going to have to coparent their son when they bring everyone back (little do they know... 😢). Sawyer's still there to play stepdad and treats their son like his own anyway.
18. - What are their dates like? How long do/did they date? Do they ever feel the need to take a break from each other? They barely even consider their one on one time together 'dates' because it was just their way of life on the Island, and that's also why they skip 'dates' when they both initially get back home. Their time on the Island might as well have been 7,000 dates between the close quarters and trauma bonding.
23. How do they hug? Kiss? Tease? Flirt? Comfort? 99% of the time hugs/kisses are sporadic and emotionally charged bc they're both low key dramatic bitches. For teasing and flirting, verbal sparring is also just Their Way. They were like that from Day 1, they ain't gonna stop anytime soon.
26. How do their friends feel about their relationship? Their families? It can really just be summed up as "This is weird as shit but they seem to work and Jane keeps that asshole at bay, so you know what, they can go for it. I trust Jane, soooo.' In Frank's case, in theory no one's ever going to be good enough for his favorite niece - but then post-Island, Sawyer settles in and half-mockingly becomes a Yankees fan for Frank, so he gets bonus points.
42. Do they let each other get away with things that would normally bother them? Early on, fuck no, Sawyer was a permanent thorn in Jane's side, she would let him know, and he would do whatever pissed her off tenfold just to get a rise out of her. But once they're friends/beyond that, he gets away with a lot more.

btw here's the concept doodles i did for the halloween art ^^ i spent way too much time on research just to come up with these... they're very simple costumes, but the thought process i went through was anything but simple, lol. if you're curious, feel free to read about it! (lots of text below)
my goals were 1. i wanted to imagine what would be reasonable for them to wear to a small kind of family gathering 2. i wanted for Susato and Ryunosuke to stick to their culture's mythos for this occasion 3. and ideally, i wanted their getups to be in character Iris was the easiest one, because to dress up as a "Witch" was a rather popular choice back in those days, as many photoprints would prove. she would have no problems finding materials or sewing patterns for her outfit, i thought. i considered making her dress more colorful... but decided against it. after all, despite her love for colours, Iris normally wears clothing with a rather 'calm' colour palette... and too much colour on her would potentially only harm the picture, anyway :P i figured the Japanese duo wouldn't be able to spend a lot / find materials in a foreign land for their costumes. so even if they wanted to dress up fancy, it would be difficult and impractical to seek out accessories or clothing just for this occasion... and it would be entirely too troublesome to try and sew something (materials needed, different sewing techniques than what was common in Britain, where to find pictures to use as a reference for something elaborate, etc etc). so, they wouldn't try do anything too complex, i thought, which means they'd either choose to dress as characters that require cheap, ragged outfits (would be relatively inexpensive to make), or they'd use things they already had. i've given a lot of thought about their choices of characters, but long story short, i've decided that a somewhat devious or fearsome, but not necessarily evil, creatures, that were very well known and easily recognizable even with minimal accessorising, were the best option. i don't know if Ryu has anything like this kimono on him, but if he had, it'd be very dark or black, i think - makes sense with his design ^^ finally, i wasn't sure what to do with Sherlock at all... would he be lazy and forget to make a costume? possibly. he loves to dress up, though, (and one pout from Iris would motivate him enough anyway) so he'd probably have fun with this holiday. i thought of making him dress as a vampire at first, then a Grim Reaper or some kind of skeleton... but ultimately stopped at 'ghost'. i definitely didn't want to just throw a sheet over him, and photos from the end of 19th century showed ghost costumes that were made for little kids and were very, well, childish... not to say that Sherlock wouldn't wear something like that, lol, but i decided to make him wear his own ghostly theme. his outfit is based on fashions from a few decades earlier, so these articles of clothing could still potentially be sold somewhere in London, and they'd give him kind of a vintage look. i have no idea if anyone would be interested in this enough to read this far, but here we are xD here's a couple of other random details: they have carved turnips for lanterns (those came out looking a bit too big, i think) i also thought they'd have soul cakes on the table, to give away/share with others, or maybe eat by themselves, but the bowl is barely noticeable at all, lol ok, that's it!

(Slight spoilers for Elite Force below, but, like, the show genuinely ruins both shows so eh)
(Death tw)
Okay so it never actually happened in Elite Force because one of the characters supposedly kicked the bucket as far as we know which I will never not be mad about especially since Mighty Med still had an entire story line that needed to be completed that was completely brushed aside for EF and also the character I'm talking about was by far one of the best characters in the entire show and I'm getting offtopic but you feel my anger and pain.
(Death tw end)
Anyway, his name is Doctor Horace Diaz, he's the head of Mighty Med and is also the superhero Caduceo. He's a goofball and I love him.
Now, in Lab Rats, I am going to hope you know who Douglas Davenport is and skip the explanation of all of that. He's a chaotic mess and I love him.
A very long time ago I made a dumb post about "Hey, wouldn't it be funny if Horace and Douglas got together?" and created a shipname for them (Dorace). At the time I had yet to realize that jokingly shipping something always leads to actually shipping it, and, uh, I think me, blue, and cinnamonzor popularized it through random headcanons and a bunch of quotes submitted to the incorrect quotes blog.
Their entire dynamic is just "I would never say that my husband is a bitch and that I don't like him, I could never. My husband is a bitch!! And I love him VERY MUCH!!" and "I have very high standards and-" *guy 2 trips down a float of stairs and proceeds to burn his hand on the kitchen stove somehow* "I want that one" except you can't tell who is saying what because it works equally for both of them. They're adorable idiots, your honor.
They are both on opposite ends of the chaotic good spectrum, which means that dates usually end in either crimes or cuddles and sometimes both. They are also both incredibly smart so they have the ability to get away with a lot of the shit that they pull.
They also both have a bunch of kids so they are the Dad Duo™. They are pretty good parents most of the time and put Donald to more shame than he already has. They're just so amazing, your honor.
(Abuse tw)
Douglas is already incredibly queer coded in canon, too, is the thing. I'm, like, 99% sure that Giselle in Season 4 of Lab Rats was added just to straighten him out a bit, which, like Moira McTaggert to Charles Xavier, it didn't fucking work.
Anyway, throughout Season 3 of the show, while Douglas is still evil, he's working alongside this guy named Victor Krane, and WOO BOY ARE THESE TWO GAY.
They went as Brad and Angelina for Halloween, there are many cases of which Douglas talks to and about Krane as if they have been dating and depending on how you look at it even MARRIED, and they're just gay.
But also, like, on top of all of this, it has been outright said and implied many times that Krane tortured Douglas?? Which would be a fine little "ha ha deranged villain" joke for a show aimed at a bunch of 8-12 year olds if it wasn't for the fact that they have a HEAVILY QUEER CODED RELATIONSHIP. Douglas talks about how Krane regularly electrocuted him in one episode while Donald is messing with him and it's played off for laughs but just??? It's not funny.
Anyway what I'm trying to say is that this man also 100% has a bunch of issues that he needs to work through and probably projects these issues onto Horace in some way or another. He's just scared of a relationship in general, and actually being in one, as great as it is, is outright terrifying and he feels like he's walking on egg shells.
[Please note that I'm not trying to turn actual abuse into something that is purely explored to cause romantic relationship tension and that having trouble with it is crazy and makes the victim a bad person. I have explored these things in many other ways with this character, and recognize that, with real people, it is so much more varied than this. Felt like this should be specified.]
(Abuse tw end)
(Death tw again)
Now, back to Horace, I mentioned earlier that Horace is a goofball. And, like, I mean this way too literally. Again, I do understand that this is a show aimed at 8-12 year olds, but god damn sometimes it's just unsettling and straight up concerning.
Like, there's this one time in the show where everyone in Mighty Med is almost killed due to some mind control thing and then when they all snap out of it, the first thing Horace does is either start a conga line or start a game of limbo (I forget which one because the other happened at a different time).
Also, the way he treats his nephew isn't ideal, to put it lightly, but there are some moments where he proves that he genuinely does care about him. He also reiterates throughout the series that one of the reasons that he doesn't treat Alan (his newphew) is that he doesn't believe that he's enough of a father to him because he's not his real father. In the end it just kind of creates the effect that he's trying to distance himself from those closest to him.
The most important detail that I haven't mentioned yet is that he's immortal. Like, actually immortal. Really immortal. 3,006 years old immortal. He's had to live for such a long time, watching the people that he's grown close to continuously die, time and time again, while he's stuck jut not being able to die.
So, my point is that Horace is definitely not as sunshine-y as he seems and the way he acts on a regular basis could very well, at least partly, just be a coping mechanism of some sort. After living for so long, it makes sense that he has trouble being able to become close to people.
(Death tw end again)
Basically, there's a lot of angst potential with these two as well as fluff.
This got way longer than intended, so sorry about that.
(@blueskiesandstarrynights is actually the reason that more than half of the stuff in this ask is actually in the ask. If you scroll through the Dorace tag on here you'll find all our posts discussing these two.)
OMG I FORGOT ABOUT HORACE
Yes I totally support this
(also it's totally fine that this was long)

Just wanted to tell you your post successfully sold me on 《我们的歌》 and after the first episode I am obsessed.
They are clowns, all of them, extremely talented clowns. I don't think I have ever shrieked so loudly so many times before
Fei Yuqing being an absolute wonder (I wasn't familiar before but am now in love)
Zhou Shen flexing by singing in 3 languages in 1 ep
The pop-up text was on point (真的开始怀疑人生🤣 for 《梦醒时分》 —and why do I think Ren Xianqi was totally trolling Wang Linkai with that song choice?)
Ren Xianqi's pitch to break up Luo Qi and Liu Yuning 😂
Ren Xianqi coming for the MC entirely unprovoked
All the seniors coming for everybody else's age entirely unprovoked
OH MY GOD YESSSSSSSSSS.
I am SO PLEASED, I cannot even tell you. Both that someone's watching this and also that I SUCCESSFULLY PITCHED SOMETHING, WOW.
First off, it's important you know that ep 1 is not the only one in which Zhou Shen sings in 3 languages in one episode, and it's not even the same three languages. Because sure, why not, that's easy. Thanks to this show I live my life as a Zhou Shen fan first and person second. Anyway.
Secondly, everyone in this show is a fucking clown, wait until a) Zhou Shen and Li Keqin get comfortable enough with each other to start going full pit comedy duo, and b) you get to B group (in ep 3) and Zhou Huajian fully coming for everyone's careers (including his own) all the time. But all the senior singers are 100% just going "I definitely listened to their songs while growing up when I was a child because they're definitely so much older than me" literally every minute, and it's hilarious. Especially when the junior singers accidentally fall into doing it accidentally, and also especially when they start to learn. There's an episode where Xiao Zhan is talking about a song he and his senior singer did that was originated by said senior singer, and he goes, "When I first heard this song........when I was a teenager," because he's learned, he can't say he was a child, he knows better, and everyone just cracks up.
Ren Xianqi is fantastically hilarious in that episode, though I also want to call out Liu Yuning standing up and bowing in thanks when Wang Linkai doesn't press the button. And Zhou Shen saying "I think I prefer Ren Xianqi-laoshi" when asked who he wants to sing with.
CLOWNS, all of them. Honestly, the best thing about this show is that everyone on it is both an amazing singer and an absolutely ridiculous person. Wait until you get to when they start showing some of the team-building exercises.
Please continue to send me your experiences, I literally cannot tell you how happy getting this message made me. Both the singing and the vibes in this show are so good, I'm so glad you're enjoying it.

if u feel so inclined, I would love to hear more about Deara (or any other dragon age ocs tbh) :3
anon i am kissing you on the lips ty for asking about her
idk specifically what you want to know about so i am just going to infodump about daera okay go.
okay so daera is my first and canon hero of ferelden she's a dwarf noble warrior. before the events of the game she was more or less uninterested in politics - her popularity with the assembly mostly stems from her being an extremely capable warrior and a charismatic leader. she never really has aspirations for the throne and was pretty happy with the idea that she would spend her life as a general defending her home from the darkspawn. she also bought into orzammar's traditions very easily - she was empathetic, but too privileged to have ever seen the dark side of the caste system and never questioned that it was the natural order of things
so when her origin happens and she gets exiled it's a massive blow because she's lost everything, but also because she feels like she's lost everything that made her a dwarf by being sent to the surface. so she ends up completely throwing herself into being a grey warden, wanting to die as honorably as possible fighting darkspawn
but then SIKE she goes to the surface and she makes FRIENDS and she starts realizing how limited her understanding of the world has been. her first and best friend in the game is alistair they're just. meathead jocks who give each other shit and love each other to death. she also romanced zevran - initially really just planning for it to be a causal fling/fwb relationship because she did come into this fully intending to die fighting the darkspawn and has never really looked past ending the blight. but eventually she begins to realize she's in love with him and wants to be with him for as long as she can. they are everything to me, chaotic murder duo. elf assassin and his small berserker wife who beats people to death with her shield
anyway when she goes back to orzammar she's feeling like pretty hot shit. she's made a name for herself on the surface solving like everyone's problems and she wants desperately to go back and prove herself to her homeland and show what a liar bhelen is. that is... not the situation she walks in on. instead everything she's been realizing about her home is in her face as problems that Are Not Going Away, and she has to choose between harrowmont, who she trusts and has always been like an uncle to her but is holding up a system that she knows is morally wrong and her evil baby brother who personally caused every single one of her problems but might be exactly what orzammar needs for the future ("i've known bhelen his entire life and this is the first time i'm hearing that he's a fucking democrat" - daera returning to orzammar, probably)
and... she chooses harrowmont
and it's a hard choice but her rationale is that while he's set in his ways, she genuinely believes he's a good man and he will listen to her if she pushes him hard enough, whereas bhelen will do the right thing now that it benefits him, but who knows what will come in the future (this is the only choice in my canon that I don't make in ANY of my other playthroughs lol). but she also didn't expect bhelen to actively try to take over after that, and in the ensuing fight, she's the one who kills him - making her an actual kinslayer, the thing she was falsely accused of in the first place
anyway she leaves orzammar deeply troubled and worried that she might have doomed it, but still tentatively believing that she made the right call. then blah blah blah plot stuff. she made alistair king largely because she did not trust anora (the scheming gave her bhelen vibes) and her first instinct was to spare loghain to help end the blight, but when alistair pushed back as hard as he did, she relented and let him execute him. and then they go and prepare for the final battle
when daera finds out one of them is going to have to die to kill the archdemon, there's never really any question that it needs to be her. alistair is too important now and, well... she had always planned on this, right? dying honorably ending the blight was exactly why she decided to join the grey wardens instead of being another dead dwarf in the deep roads. but now she kind of doesn't want to die. as much as she feels like she never wants to go back home now, she's also found out that she loves living on the surface and she loves her friends and she loves zevran and she doesn't want that to be over
so when morrigan tells her her deal, she's conflicted. she loves morrigan but she also doesn't trust her. she knows that the old gods were what caused the blight in the first place and she's worried that unleashing one will cause something even worse. the darkspawn have been an immediate threat her entire life to the point of being at the brink of wiping out her entire culture and if she does something that could endanger it further - and the entire world at large - for her own selfish reasons, she feels like the worst kind of traitor. how could she take the throne from bhelen, how could she kill bhelen for not trusting his motives when she would consider something like this?
... but she really doesn't want to die yet
so she asks alistair to do the ritual (I have a lot of thoughts about the dark ritual and what happens after that I wont go into here lol) and neither of them die and everything is GOOD except now she keeps waiting for the other shoe to drop. the only reason she's alive is because she betrayed the core value of what the wardens are so she really doesn't want to be doing grey warden shit in awakening (she ended up sparing the architect for reasons that are. too long for me to get into in this already way too long post lmao but needless to say she feels deeply conflicted about that too). she returns to orzammar sometimes to fight with harrowmont with political shit but can't really stomach being there for too long. she already feels like she's failed it in more ways than she can admit and she feels like she should stay and fight for a better future, but also it feels like she bought her life on the world's borrowed time and she wants to make use of it
eventually she leaves to go to antiva with zevran and help him with his stuff there, which feels a lot better because fighting for him is something she knows is worth fighting for. and they're happy there and she finds out she loves big cities and the sun and the ocean, but its always a little tempered by knowing that the world thinks of her as a hero when she feels like she's failed it in so many ways. but also she’s alive and she gets to keep hanging out with her sexy elf boyfriend so, you know, she would do it again

I don't have AO3 account, wanted to say I'm really enjoying your fic 'The War is Far From Over Now'. Your meta about CA2 is thoughtful & makes me think about how stupid Rogers & Romanov were. That data dump probably did as much damage as Hydra did & they didn't stop Hydra anyway, since they're still doing f'ed up stuff on AoS. All because Rogers has an unhealthy attachment to Bucky, they set SHIELD on metaphoric fire & left a lot people out in the cold to get tortured or worse. Wow, so heroic.
I’m glad you’re liking it so far!
Yeah, the entire mess with HYDRA had me sideyeing the MCU so much.
I’ve only watched the first episode of Agents of SHIELD, and don’t plan on using more than bits and bobs from the wiki for plot reasons, but just the way it was handled had me cringing from the first time I saw it. Add to that the anti-Tony turn the movies [and tumblr] took, and you’ve got a good chunk of the inspiration behind the TWiFFON.
I mean, I think the movies tried to take a realistic turn, but if a huge and supposedly game-changer event happens, it’s handled badly in the MCU.
Sometimes, rarely, they’ll get it right, like Tony’s situation in Iron Man 3 dealing with the fallout from New York, but even then a turn supposed to make everyone laugh had me glaring at his supposed friend because really, Banner? Really? And Civil War had me fuming because when Natasha said that thing about “watch your back”, I couldn’t help but think ‘oh that’s rich coming from you, miss ‘just dump intel on the world wide web and smile about it trending’, not hypocritical at all’. Not to mention everyone’s blasé ‘apparently aliens are real’ stance, even though they’ve been invaded twice, already have a warning from a semi-friendly ally [Thor], and still think that Tony’s concerned over nothing.
So yeah, this is me trying to do an alternative approach to the MCU’s attempt at realism.
The fallout’s going to be dealt with as best as I can manage, but an added focus as to the extent of it. Legal drama ahoy, for instance, because a token appearance in a courtroom won’t just hide this mess under the rug. And here, the people they considered collateral damage will show up in the wings, and won’t be appreciative of it. In canon, Zemo’s vendetta was a thing, but that was just one man; the dynamic duo burned an entire organization, I’m honestly surprised that nobody’s tried to pull something like this before.
…also, I’m having waaay too much fun writing Tony Stark and his [accidental] world domination.
Fun fact: I’d originally planned on this entire fic spanning 5 chapters. Yesterday, I’d hoped it’d be less than 10. Now, I don’t even know because some portions just keep flowing [like the interlude legal drama], while others are flat-out not cooperating [like the events of Age of Ultron].
