TROPE: SEEING COLORS

ike's world has been black and white for as long as he could remember

his friends have always told him how beautiful everything be came after they made eye contact with their soulmate for the first time

despite them trying their best to describe colors (what does a "warm" color even look like anyway?) it was hard for ike to really care

after all, how can you miss something you never experienced?

but more than seeing colors, the novelist just wanted to meet his soulmate

it wasn't that he was lonely; ike had his fair share of relationships in the past with others like him (those who haven't had the chance to meet their soulmate just yet, but wanted to date anyways)

however being a writer comes with a certain sense of romanticism and a lust for life, and ike was no exception

he's always loved the thought of meeting someone who was perfect for him in every way; a person who he could be his honest self around and love with all his heart

this is why when he suddenly started seeing colors he never could've imagined on a busy sidewalk, he immediately started scanning the crowd for you

he spotted you under the canopy of a nearby cafe. you were looking around with clear awe on your face, mouth slightly agape as you took in the new world around you, not even noticing the grumbles of passerby who narrowly avoided you.

you looked almost ethereal in your (now known as blue) button up, the sunshine leaving your skin in a warm glow. the gentle breeze ruffled your hair just right, and the novelist couldn't tear his gaze away.

as much as ike wanted to admire his new view too, he was more focused on making sure he didn't lose you. he's thought about it countless of times—dreamt of it, even—of somehow meeting his soulmate and losing them right away, never to be seen again. ike's lost enough sleep over it and he was determined to not make his nightmares a reality.

pushing past shoulders with rushed "sorry's" and "excuse me's," ike rushed to get to you as quick as possible; and soon enough, he was now standing face to face with you—the person who would become the love of his life.

your gaze fell onto him and an unspoken realization was met. you could feel it to; the ecstasy blooming in your very core at finally meeting your other half.

"hi," he breathed, a broad smile adorning his face. "i think i'm your soulmate."

TROPE: MUTUAL PAIN

woe is the soulmate of a certain blonde haired mafia boss

injuries came with the job, unfortunately, but the soft-hearted man couldn't help but feel sorry for his soulmate

luca knew some most of his injuries weren't normal. civilians don't get bullet wounds in their arm or knife slashes to the chest

did his soulmate worry for him? or were they wishing they weren't fated at all? as much as it hurt, luca couldn't find it in himself to blame them if they did

the small pricks he felt on his fingertips from presumably paper cuts can't compare to literally getting stabbed in the back

eventually it came to a point where luca tried to stop going outside altogether

he can't obtain any further injuries if he's always at the base, right?

but that fantasy couldn't last forever.

the one day he had to be escorted to a different location, him and his guards got ambushed

luca was the only one who got away, but not without sustaining a bullet wound to his shoulder

it wasn't as bad as it could've been but it still hurt like a bitch

stumbling into an alleyway, the blonde collapsed next to a dumpster, creating a loud thud that echoed into the night

luca was ready to rip off a piece of his shirt to wrap his shoulder when suddenly a bright light momentarily blinded him

standing a little bit away was you, pointing your phone flashlight on him while gripping your shoulder in your other hand

"so you're a med student?" luca asks, gritting his teeth when you dab at his bullet wound with rubbing alcohol. tossing the cotton ball, you reach into your first aid kit for gauze.

"yeah," you say quietly, starting to wrap his shoulder. the blonde frowns noticing how you refuse to meet his eyes. he opened his mouth to say something but you beat him to it.

"i chose this path because of you." at your words luca's eyebrow raises in question. you finished wrapping him up and now rest your hands in your lap, fiddling with your fingers. "you got so many injuries growing up and i didn't know what to do. i was worried you didn't have anyone to help you so i wanted to learn how," you explain quietly. at this the mafia boss's gaze softens.

"how'd you know? that i'm your soulmate, i mean," he asks. reaching up, you gently grazed the large scar on his abdomen with your fingers.

"i recognized your injuries," you said. luca shivered at your touch, raising his non-injured arm to cover your hand with his.

"i'm glad i ran into you then, soulmate."

TROPE: COUNTDOWN TIMER

mysta's known since he was five that he had a soulmate, just like every other five-year-old in his class

but there was one teeny little problem

ok actually it was a major problem

his timer seemed to be broken

instead of the few years or days or months like his friends had, his timer was set to decades

because of how long his timer was set for, mysta was teased mercilessly for "having a soulmate who doesn't even want to meet him"

this followed him for most of his youth until eventually he covered up his wrist and tried to forget about it alltogether

if he wasn't going to meet his soulmate until he was old and gray, why should he even care

that was until he fell through that damned portal and landed in 2022

he noticed it after he got out of the shower, spotting his wrist in the mirror while brushing back his hair

mysta's mouth dropped open in shock, dropping his arm to gently run his fingers over the numbers

the timer that was the bane of his younger self's existence was down to the hours

the detective was antsy, understandably.

a lifetime of thinking he wouldn't ever meet his soulmate suddenly turned into meeting his soulmate in twenty minutes. mysta wasn't sure what to do, how he should act. should he go outside? he should, right? how else would he meet you?

filled with a newfound sense of determination, mysta grabbed his keys and darted into the london night.

there was hardly anyone out this late; maybe his timer really was broken? what were you doing out at one in the morning, don't you know that's dangerous? who knows what kind of dangerous people were prowling outside right now.

mysta started walking briskly toward a more crowded area of the city. if he had to meet you, it would be somewhere safe.

settling on standing in front of a pub he's been to a few times with friends, the detective started counting down the minutes till he would meet you. he kept glancing at his wrist, watching the numbers go down one by one until there was only a minute left on the clock.

mysta tapped his foot impatiently as he glanced left and right down the street until suddenly, he felt the lightest tap on his shoulder. he spun on his heel and low and behold, there you were.

grinning, you spoke.

"nice to finally meet you, soulmate."

and mysta couldn't be happier.

TROPE: SWITCHING BODIES

in all honesty, shu couldn't care less about having a soulmate

the idea of the universe choosing who he would fall in love with didn't sit right with him

not to mention how frustrating it would be sometimes when the two of you switched bodies at inconvenient times

like in the middle of one of his experiments

or when he's talking to one of his fellow sorcerers

or how about that time he was meditating in a lovely, perfectly quiet room for the first time in ages as a way to destress only to suddenly wake up in your body in the middle of a bustling city

yeah, shu wasn't all too happy about it, but what can he do?

so while all his friends were out actively searching for ways to meet their soulmate in person, shu was directing his energy toward mastering his powers instead

but the thing about having a soulmate is that you can't exactly reject them altogether

they're your soulmate for a reason, after all

so despite his resistance, the purple sorcerer found himself falling for you all the same

he grew antsy at particularly long periods without switching and eventually started leaving notes behind for you for when you would eventually switch

including a bright purple post-it with an address and a time and date

shu sat inside the cafe anxiously, bouncing his leg under the table while sipping his drink. he hoped that his note was obvious enough that you saw it the last time you guys swapped bodies, but how could he know for sure? you didn't leave a reply on his note, and the swap period was rather short that time too.

minutes passed the written time and the pounding in shu's chest grew louder and louder in his ears. he looked up at every tinkle of the bell above the door, hoping that it was you only to be disappointed when it wasn't. he kept glancing out the window rather obsessively, and soon enough his cup was empty too.

after 40 minutes had gone by, the sorcerer had just about given up. letting out a disappointed sigh, he rose from his chair to leave his tray and finished drink on the counter only to pause when the bell jingled one last time. shu looked up on instinct and his breath got caught in his throat.

in the doorway was you, slightly sweaty and definitely out of breath, looking frantically around the cafe before your eyes landed on him. shu was still holding the tray in his hands when you ran up to him, still in shock at seeing you in the flesh for the first time and not just through a mirror.

"h...hi..." you stutter, gripping the strap of your tote bag tightly in your fists. "i'm sorry i'm late. but i'm so glad i found you." shu broke out of his trance and smiled, setting the tray back down on the table.

"i'm glad you found me too."

TROPE: FIRST WORDS

fitting for a voice demon that the first words his soulmate says to him is permanently printed onto his skin

he's well aware of the power he holds fucking asshole and uses his charm and good looks to his advantage

the demon spent most of his early years dropping one liners and introducing himself with various pickup lines in an attempt to find his elusive soulmate

and many have tried to pretend they were his fated one but they never succeeded

after the death of his clan and being transported to the future, it took vox a long time to feel ready to find his soulmate again

slowly he started visiting pubs and parties in an attempt to socialize

it was at one of these parties that he met you

beer in hand, vox pushed past a group laughing with each other in the hallway to slip out onto the balcony. he was hoping to get a chance to breathe and get away from all the sweaty partygoers, but there was already another person out here with him. figuring it wouldn't hurt to say something, the demon let a familiar smirk slip onto his face as he approached you.

sensing his presence, you turned your head to look at him in curiosity, fiddling with the many rings on your fingers.

"why hello there; what's a gorgeous person like you doing out here all alone?" he drawls, sliding up next to you. a breathy laugh escaped your lips, dropping your head to your chest for a moment before you looked back up and meeting his gaze dead on.

"you're gonna have to try harder than that if you wanna impress me, pretty boy."

at your words vox faltered, the smirk falling from his face as his lips parted in surprise. the skin where his soulmate mark was seemed to tingle.

it seems like you figured it out too; your eyes widened and suddenly you were tugging your shirt up to show a matching tattoo on your ribs. you let the fabric fall back down and looked back up at him, a softer smile now gracing your features as vox reached over to intertwine his fingers with yours.

"would you look at that," you laughed happily. "guess you really did impress me, pretty boy."

I am so glad you asked, dear lynx!! because just like how Remus never shuts up about Karl Marx, I never want to shut up about our karl marx fangirl #1 remus lupin!!

He first read Marx as a teenager, and by the time he's 20 he has read the entirety of Das Kapital, as well as the economic and philosophic manuscripts and he makes it everyone's problem. NO ONE understands Marx the way he does, it's such a burden that only he has to bear, but in good communist manner, he shares his opinion with anyone and everyone who is willing to listen or simply doesn't run away fast enough.

And he gets SO sad when he thinks about Karl Marx being dead, it's such a problem because Karl Marx's death day is only 4 days after Remus's birthday so every year he throws a big birthday party, but he always feels so guilty for celebrating his own sad existence when the anniversary of his hero's death is looming on the horizon. So he tries making his birthday party Karl Marx themed: dress up as your fave Marxist, bring whatever food you have at home and share it with everyone, don't get mad if someone else makes out with your boyfriend, everbody's sharing tonight!!! But that only makes him sadder because he wishes he could've invited the real Karl Marx to his birthday party:( He settles for making out with a guy dressed up as Karl, but it's not the same, and the guy hasn't even read Das Kapital in its entirety, he's ONLY read the communist manifesto which is not that much longer than a tweet so Remus dumps him immediately and goes back to crying in the corner of his party and wiping his tears with the pages of some neo marxist books written by people who don't get Marx at all.

His 18th birthday is especially hard for him, he's just so sad thinking about Karl not being there, so he goes and gets a little hammer and sickle tattoo on his ankle - he's been doodling them all over his notebooks for years anyways and this way at least he has something with him to remind him of his hero no matter where he is!

And you just KNOW he has Karl Marx posters in his room, and he will only admit this when he's a bit drunk but Karl actually played a big part in his gay awakening, and the one time he can convince Sirius to roleplay as Karl Marx ends up being the best sex they've ever had which is very disturbing to Sirius until he gets Remus to roleplay as Proudhon which evens it out a little bit. Eventually they settle on Kropotkin as a common ground for their political role play fantasies, but Remus sometimes just closes his eyes and thinks of Karl Marx instead, because his beard and politics are just superior to Kropotkin's, if you ask him (but you shouldn't ask him, or he'll never shut up about it).

I love how sam is immediately adopted as part of the cheering squad 😂 Im just imagining diego and Addie going 'one of us!! One of us!!! One of us!!!' At sam and just merges em into the group like theyve always belonged there 😭 I knew sam and diego would be instant besties!! I love G and Sam too!! Though I guess I didnt flirt enough with G to trigger any sort of jealousy between G and Sam. But its fine, Ive found that G as a platonic friend is also very sweet and I honestly kinda prefer it for my MC!! (Who will cry themself stupid when G has to leave 😔)

G is not really the jealous type, but there is a difference in their reaction to Sam and MC if MC has been flirting with G... though the more pronounced reaction comes from Sam if MC flirts with G in front of them.

As for Rayyan... yes. They definitely are the competitive type, both when it comes to tennis and. Well. Romance.

Glad you enjoyed some of the interactions between the ROs/characters in the update, it was a lot of fun getting to write some of these dynamics after building up to them in earlier chapters. A personal fave was writing Tobin's locker room scenes, and G/Rayyan being soft, and Sam's reunion :)

Finally, I have lots of Sam/hallmate interactions planned for the weekend, so stay tuned for that!!

Okay BEARING in mind please that I have a lot of thought out ATLA opinions (most of them can be found in the tag for my first rewatch) & also that i do not analyze smartly on first watches / read throughs of ANYTHING (examples include that on my first watch of Buffy I shipped Buffy/Xander & hated Dawn, on my first watch of ATLA I disliked Azula for a long time & didn’t care about Jet, on my first watch of Scream I wanted Dewey to be the killer because of Scary Movie. I could go on probably)

—- here are my initial reactions to ATLA LA as someone who’s been having fun watching (usually tipsy) & enjoying my faves in live action even if it’s badly written 😃

Pros:

Jet is hot

Uh… um. Uh… umm. That was my big one okay..

Oh! Oh! Suki is also hot.

I think Katara’s live action actress did a really nice job even if I don’t always love how she was written I could tell this girl put her heart into it

Same with Azula’s actress tbh. And Aang. Zuko & Iroh also. It took me a second to get used to this Iroh but acting wise ignoring the script Zuko & Iroh did good. (Sokka & Yue were only okay but they didn’t do bad by any means once I got used to them.)

Azula’s intro was super fun. I thought for a second they were even gonna do something fun with her & this whole ratting out the rebellion plot. Also the actress did good & there were a few parts that were well written like her early displays of insecurity & her beating the shit out of that trainer & shooting Zuko’s letter. There was promise until there wasn’t.

They didn’t do a bad job of combining some of the plots. “Masks” was the strongest for me. It did a nice job showcasing several plots & I really enjoyed the significance placed on Zuko valuing the lives of inexperienced soldiers. Everything just came together super well in that episode with the Koh plot & everything. Now that certain criticisms of the Omashu episodes (like Jet’s mischaracterization in hurting his own people) have been brought up to me I dislike those episodes more than on my first watch through but I still think the Freedom Fighters were fun to see. And if you don’t analyze it too hard the plot combinations are fun. Anyway why would you analyze this adaptation too hard?

Cons:

Why isn’t Azula scared of Ozai? I get it he’s forged her into the perfect weapon & she did what he technically wanted but she disrespected him publicly & he was fine? Okay.

Above mentioned explanation of why Jet wasn’t done right ^^ He shouldn’t be willing to hurt Earth Kingdom citizens. Even if it was fun to see his logic & the Jetara moments & I do think the actor did a good job (no I’m not just saying that ‘cause he’s hot. That helps though).

Katara didn’t have to struggle at all she’s just a #girlboss! Isn’t that great? #feminism!

Who’s this super serious kid who always puts the mission first & where’s my silly goofy guy who wants to go on endless side quests? The actor does decent but that’s just not Aang.

Overall: I had fun. I will repeat myself - this is like the Harry Potter movies or the Series of Unfortunate Events tv show or any other adaptation of something I loved in its original form that’s never going to get it quite right to me. I hated some things. I had fun with other parts. Mostly? It was just fun to see my faves in a new format. It’ll never ever live up to the original but I never in a million years wanted nor expected that. Quite frankly? I didn’t want this to be made at all. But since it is whether I wanted it or not? I’m glad it was at least entertaining & enjoyable to have fun with.

This was ALWAYS going to be an example of what I call the “Marvelification” of television. Nothing is nuanced everything is quippy everyone’s edges are dulled. I never expected anything else so I’m not even listing that as a con it’s just a given to me. Binge culture whole season releases & the endless remakes & reboots of streaming sites are the death of television. This is again just a given to me I don’t have much more to say about it right now (though I’m sure I do just not now).

The original ATLA will always mean everything to me & this was just a fun little adaptation. Like a fanfic. If it gets renewed? Sure I’ll have fun watching more. But if it doesn’t I truly don’t care. Anyway I’m sure I’ll have more thoughts eventually these are INITIAL reactions please don’t treat them like I signed this post in blood I’m just thinking out loud having just finished this show! That’s all for now lol

Oooohhhhh a coffee shop AU! Yessss. I love them so much. One of my fave AU tropes honestly.

20: "Are you single? Just, uh, asking for a friend."

The guy came into his coffee shop every day at the same time. Yugi always expected him, could plan his day around when this guy would show up because he was just that predictable.

He was part of Yugi's daily routine, he just knew he'd see him.

So when the door opened that morning, the bell rang cheerfully and Yugi looked up to see him, he thought everything would go exactly the same as it always did.

He was wrong.

See, Yugi had been crushing on this guy for weeks, he'd even tried to gauge the other guy's interest a couple of times…but each time, the attempts just fell flat.

He was sure the guy was interested in him, sometimes he got the feeling that he wanted to say something more to him but he just didn't.

Of course they exchanged general conversation, and from that he'd learned where the guy worked, his views on gaming…all the important things, but when it came to flirting, well.

It was like the guy just didn't get it.

Or if he did, he was just really good at playing dumb.

Either way, Yugi had been trying to subtly ask this guy on a date for weeks, and every attempt hadn't worked.

He was about to launch into his usual good morning speech when he realised that the guy had other people with him that morning.

A taller man with long dark hair and an expression which was hard to read but suggested he was already done with the day, and a girl a fair bit shorter than him, with long black braided hair and brightly coloured clothing that seemed to match her bright smile.

Strange, this guy usually came alone.

No matter, Yugi could still talk to him as he usually did he was sure.

"Hi, how are you today?" He asked happily, smiling warmly at the guy in front of him.

"Uh, good, you?" The guy's answer was short and Yugi thought, uncharacteristically nervous , but he didn't let it bother him. He maintained his warm smile.

"Great, I'm glad to see you, as always." He said, testing the waters once more and hoping this guy took the hint barely hidden in those words but he didn't respond immediately.

The girl in bright clothing nudged the guy with her elbow, seemingly snapping him out of whatever thought he'd been lost in.

"Oh…yeah." The guy said awkwardly. "Thanks."

Hmm. He was hoping for a little more than that but whatever.

He saw the girl roll her eyes and took that as a good sign, he was sure Jou and Anzu had done exactly the same when watching some of his attempts at asking people out.

"Oh, anytime." He said with a laugh. "Anyway, what can I get you?"

After the most awkward ordering session of his life, Yugi made the drinks, handed them over and watched as the guy and what he assumed were his friends took a seat far from the counter.

He smiled to himself as he went about his other tasks, occasionally looking over to the guy who had so effortlessly captured his heart.

He remembered the first time he saw him, he'd been angry with the universe for not putting this guy in his path before now.

The guy was just his type. About his height, tattooed, snake bite piercings and leather jacket. He dressed nice, he looked nice, he smelled nice.

Yugi wanted him, and he'd honestly never wanted something so badly in his life.

He glanced back over to the table and saw that the three people there were all leaning close together, talking about something which must be important.

He wondered what they were talking about…

The hot guy suddenly looked up at him and he smiled, unsure of what else to do but his smile was returned by the other and he felt his stomach turn nervously.

This guy had to be into him. Please, god, let this guy be into him.

He reluctantly looked away when another customer wanted to be served and by the time he was done with the order, the guy was back in deep conversation.

With a sigh, he resigned himself to doing his job.

He was halfway through re-stocking a fridge when a voice distracted him. "Hey, can I talk to you for a sec?"

He turned to find the guy he wanted to talk to more than anyone else and he smiled.

"Of course." He said happily.

The guy looked relieved, leaning against the counter as he laughed softly and Yugi was intrigued.

He felt as if something had changed, like this was important.

Yugi leaned forward expectantly, eager to hear what the guy wanted to say to him. This was it, he was sure. This was the moment he'd know whether or not he had a chance.

The guy smiled, glanced over his shoulder nervously and then turned back to him.

"Are you single?" The words which left the guy's mouth almost stopped his heart.

He could hardly contain his excitement. He'd been right! This guy was interested in him, he did want to make a move on him, and he was ecstatic.

Now, how did he respond in a normal way?

The guy in front of him shifted awkwardly as his hands left the counter, one reached up to rub the back of the guy's neck..

"Just, uh, asking for a friend…" The guy said awkwardly, looking away from him and Yugi's heart fell into his stomach.

No.

This wasn't happening. This couldn't be happening.

Maybe it was a joke? Yeah, probably. This guy seemed like the type.

"Oh…um…" He chanced a look past the guy, toward the table he'd been sitting at with two others. "Which friend?"

The guy seemed stunned by the question and he waited patiently, watched the guy open his mouth, close it, open it again, rub the back of his neck and chew his lip.

Surely this guy wouldn't be so awkward if he was asking about a friend…

He really hoped that his gut was right.

"Uh…" The guy looked up at him shyly and took a breath. "I might have fucked up."

"...Okay?" He said, unable to contain his amusement.

The guy laughed breathlessly and Yugi smiled.

"Would it be okay if I just walked away for a sec and then came back and tried this again?" The guy asked, his expression was hopeful, his eyes desperate.

"If that's what you'd like to do." He said with a smile. "I'm not going anywhere for a while yet."

"Thank you." The guy nodded, then he turned and walked away.

Yugi watched him go back to the table where the others sat, saw them all say something quietly, the woman with the long braided hair even shoved the guy back away from the table.

Once the guy turned around to face him again Yugi looked down at the counter, pretending that he hadn't been watching.

"Hey." He heard that familiar warm voice and looked up.

"Hi there." He said happily.

"I've been coming here for a while now and I really like you, so I just wanna know, are you single?" The guy asked quickly.

"You're not asking for a friend, right?" He said softly.

"No."

"Just checking." He said with a smile. "Then yes, I am single, and I really like you too."

"Really?" The guy asked, laughing softly again. "Oh that's such a relief. I was really hoping I hadn't read everything wrong."

Yugi laughed quietly, shaking his head and placing a hand over the guys on the counter.

"If you'd have been reading the signs, you'd have realised that I'd been flirting with you for weeks." He said.

"Oh fuck." The guy groaned. "Really? I'm such an idiot, god."

"You're cute though." He said.

"You're cute." The guy shot back and despite himself, Yugi blushed. "Yep, definitely cute."

"Shush." He said, pulling his hand away from the others. "Can I ask you a question now?"

"Sure." The guy smiled at him.

"What's your name?" He asked, laughing and tapping his name badge. "I mean, you already know mine so it's only fair. I can't keep calling you 'hot guy' after all."

The guy laughed and chewed his lip, leaning against the counter again.

"Well, I mean, you could. I sure as hell wouldn't mind that." The guy said with a wink. "But my name is Atem, if you wanna use that instead."

He laughed and leaned against the counter too, a soft smile on his lips.

"Well then Atem, I think we should exchange numbers so we can talk when I'm not working." He suggested.

Atem nodded eagerly and pulled out his phone, sliding it over the counter to him and asking him to add his number.

As he typed in the numbers he really had to try to keep himself calm because this was what he'd wanted and he was finally there.

He handed the phone back with a soft smile and Atem left him with the promise that he'd call later.

Strange #9 Review

(Yes, I know the last issue is tomorrow and I’m super late. I blame my adhd. You know, the thing with deadlines? It’s a me)

Anyway, there are a few details I want to point out in this issue and some fundamental bits that I’d like to delve into. So let’s start with this panel.

I find it hilarious but I can understand why some people are not happy about Clea’s portrayal. It’s true she has never been this feral before but *IMO* I think it’s valid for her to have this side because 1) she was raised by Umar and Dormammu. Her father was a simp, her mother, a narcissistic queen, and her uncle is freaking Dormammu. Besides, let’s assume one cycle in the Dark Dimension equals 1000 years on Earth. We don’t know Clea’s age but we do know she was born during their reign so I assume she has a few centuries there at least; 2) she was the leader of a rebel army. My girl is not one sweet damsel in distress at all. She fought a war and saw many of her friends die; and 3) she has Faltinian blood. I’m glad she redirect their need to conquer towards love, though. So, in conclusion... I pretend I do not see it.

PS: Stephen’s pose like he were Batman sent me!!

Now let’s focus on this part because it’s always reassuring whenever a writer confirms what I’ve been talking about since forever ;-;

I usually tend to describe him as a healer, but doctor is also a good word once he knew that was his call since he was eleven.

And this is why I can’t accept whenever someone calls him self-centered (partially due to his MCU portrayal). Stephen is altruism incarnate. He’s very kind and doesn’t hesitate to sacrifice himself in order to save people’s lives (which is also shown later in the preview). This is not my personal instance, it’s literally all over this volume and so many other books.

And this panel pretty much sums up what I was trying to say about both Clea and Stephen.

We never managed to see Clea’s past and what it felt like to be raised in such a place. But we do know that she finally learned love through him, which is super unusual because love is most often associated with female characters, not the other way around. And this happened in the 60′s!

And noooow let’s appreciate Stephen’s sappiness because omv how I missed this. He’s been looking for someone to be this sappy with for ages ever since Clea left! It didn’t work with any of his flings because truth be told, he’s a hopeless romantic 🤧 Clea is lucky 💜 (and she blushes!!)

Now my favorite part because they’d be talking about Marc and Victor, it was such a bingo for me (for those who don’t know, they’re part of my top 5 characters tee-hee)

I love that they're trying to justify their faves here. Friendly reminder that Marc once stole Stephen’s powers in (ew) Age of Khonshu, so it’s kinda shocking for Stephen to hear that there’s kindness in Marc (but there is!!!). Meanwhile, Clea doesn’t really know Victor’s soft spot (yet) and they don’t usually see eye to eye, but Stephen is far more familiar with Victor and has seen kindness in him a few times (although yes, Victor isn’t one to give things freely. Listen, he’s complicated! *my Stephen side vouching for Victor is showing, I know...)

Moving on, I’m glad there’s an explanation for how Clea managed to become Earth’s Sorcerer Supreme without a new tournament. People be discussing this and tbh I was kinda tired. I just wait for things to be explained and look! Turns out it was.

Also I cry.

Aaaand he’s making jokes about being dead 💀

Moving on... Here I am once more, praising Jed for showing impeccable knowledge on Stephen’s lore. Director None reveals that he was in contact with the Trinity of Ashes and also working for them.

Back in Sorcerer Supreme, the magic deities were forcing Stephen to fight for them in the War of the Seven Spheres. He refused and lost part of hs power until he finally agreed to serve them. Except that the war lasted five thousand years. In order to preserve Stephen’s sanity, the Vishanti suppressed his memory of it (Sorcerer Supreme #48; #80).

Director None is using the revenants to spread chaos and pain in order to please the Trinity, but he’s also preparing a vessel for them. And this vessel is... well, THE Sentry.

Which is not only super dangerous but also painful for Stephen due to their history. Stephen once assisted Bob with a spell to make the world forget that he existed in order to eliminate the Void - Sentry’s “dark side" manifest (Sentry #4-5). Stephen also helped Bob with his mental health by locking him in his own mindscape (it was not ideal but it was the only way for Bob to feel safe without the Void’s influence). Stephen lied to Bob about the Void (it was somehow locked in the Sanctum?) and for that Bob ended their friendship (Doctor Strange #381-385).

It’s true that Bob died several times (last one was Knull’s doing, a very graphic and violent death, to put it mildly). But hm, it’s the Sentry. He always comes back. He’s like Marvel’s Superman, and that includes his strength. He beat Hulk in WWH. He’s that strong. So yeah, Clea and Stephen are really screwed =D

I’ve already read the preview pages for #10. I’m saving it all for tomorrow, though. I’m very much excited and it’s been a long journey. Can’t wait to see how Stephen will come back to life and how they’ll rekindle their marriage I’m not expecting spicy tomorrow but I won’t be denied in v6!! Did you hear me, Jed? I want my spicy!!

😈 Has there been a point in a story where you did something just to be playfully mean to your readers?

I was about to say 'I'm not a playfully mean writer' by nature, and generally speaking, I don't see myself this way.

But then I remembered that I have absolutely done this.

There have been chapters I've posted where I've kind of cackled after pressing post, slid down the chair, slapped my hands over my face and gone 'OH NO THEY'RE GONNA HATE MEEEEEEE' and then kept cackling.

But it's not always for the storylines people think. There was nothing 'playfully mean' about the end of The Ice Plague for example. It all felt horribly serious, and I did not think 'haha everyone's gonna suffer' because I WAS IN THAT TOO. I was mostly like 'I hope people can last to the epilogue, because that epilogue will (ideally) make up for all of this.' And it's hard to describe that feeling, but it's not playful, and frankly, it's not fun until the story is over. (People who have read this will know what I'm talking about re: the last three chapters of the canon).

But I did feel this way during Efnisien's arc in Falling Falling Stars involving the Forest night-club and Augus. I can't say why I do for some very serious things that I know will impact people, and not others.

For the most part, I am not like... a playfully mean author. But every now and then I will make a decision because I know it feels crunchy and awful in me (and I know how to fix it with comfort), and so I know it will feel that way to the readers. Sometimes that's a serious choice. Sometimes it's a 'OH NO HAHAHAHA THEY'LL HATE MEEEE.'

It's never light-hearted though. Idk if playful is the right word. I never do it just because it's fun to watch people twist. I've never really understood that. It's always because it's right for the characters/story, and it will get us to where we need to go. It's one of the reasons I don't really like playfully mean comments (things like 'I hate you author my life is over after this chapter how dare you write something like this' do not read like compliments to me, they read like 'go find something else then' to me), because I just...don't really approach my writing that way, and I am not a playful or jokey person by nature.

✨ Give you and your writing a compliment. Go on now. You know you deserve it.

(I'm gonna do another one, because I can).

Over time, my writing has been able to earn the trust of some readers who don't normally read: WIPs, certain genres, certain types of BDSM, noncon, abuse, or certain themes. A common refrain I've gotten in comments are things like 'I don't like a/b/o but I really like how you're doing it' or 'I didn't know how you were going to pull this off, but I trusted you and it paid off' or 'this kink is squicky to me, but I'm so glad I read this scene.'

This kind of trust is so humbling and like...amazing when people take this leap. It started all the way back when people were like 'I didn't think I'd like a story with Augus in it but now he's a fave / I'm ride or die for him' after Into Shadows We Fall. And it's continued. That's like...something I never want to betray or let down (I'm not really a 'shock tactic writer' anyway, so it's not likely to happen tbh), like I'm sure not all of my stories will be winners to everyone - that's normal - but I do really love that someone who doesn't normally read WIPs can feel some trust in reading one of mine, because I've never not finished a long WIP, and I do it relatively fast in proportion to story length. It makes me happy, and it gives me something to aim for re: future stories.

Anyway it's just... idk, that my writing can earn that trust? *flails*

Fave afl couple daydream scenario that didn’t make it to print?

Tbh, there's rarely an actual scenario; it's just them being in love and maybe they cuddle and that's kind of it.

BUT I will tell you about a drabble/bonus chapter I was going to write for them and never got around to. Under a cut because I got carried away so it's long

It's winter and Joon books a mountain cabin in the north for them to spend a long weekend in and reader is pissed because it's fucking cold and the drive was shitty and they get to this cabin and can't work out how to turn the heating on and they're both just kind of tired and cranky. But they apologise and it's fine and Joon is really determined to make this a good weekend because the thing is that they haven't said 'i love you' to each other yet and he's fucking dying but he decided that she had to go first, on principle somehow, because it would be good for her so he hasn't said it but he really really really realalfjjsjajjdjfjdkkly wants it so he needs this weekend to go well.

Anyway, it's not like reader hasn't thought about it, like she hasn't said the words in her head before; there's just this kind of block because ??? There's this part of her that feels like it's giving power away to tell him.

Then (because this is, in part, inspired by the poem Deer Tracks by Richard Harrison) they have very intense sex and she cries because she fucking loves him and wants to tell him and she's going to, she's really about to, but he speaks first and it disappears and she can't do it.

Like I said, it's winter, and they argue on the way up about snow and she actually hates the cold and doesn't think the car will do well on these single track roads in the snow but Joon is blasé about it and like, ah it'll be fine. But then she wakes up in the middle of the night and it IS snowing, it's snowing a whole fucking lot and this is also partly inspired by She tells her love by Robert Graves and she looks at the snow covering the ground and theres that peculiar glow and that strange silence that always accompanies thick snowfall and she looks at Namjoon and she wants to cry again because she loves him and he has never made her feel less than safe less than secure and she feels like this is it, she has to tell him but not in a panicky, urgent way because the snow is so soft and everything feels peaceful and namjoon isn't even snoring right now and she realises that it's freeing. It'll be freeing to tell him because that's what love is, that's what Namjoon is to her. He is peace and love and safety and comfort and so much freedom. And she walks back and climbs into bed and he wakes a little like, 'hey are you ok?' and she cuddles close to him and he shivers because she's cold from being out of bed and he's so so so warm and she tells him she loves him and he says it back (because ofc he does! He's been waiting for this!!! And honestly if he weren't half asleep, he'd be saying more, doing more, kissing her like his life depends on it, but he IS half asleep so he says it back and kisses the top of her head and they both go back to sleep).

And in the morning, while they're having breakfast, Namjoon remembers it but he doesn't remember if it was real or dreamt or what but yesterday felt a little fraught so he doesn't bring it up yet. She's the one to suggest going for a walk in the snow and he says yes so they crunch through freshly fallen snow and it's sooo quiet and soooo peaceful and she admits that it's nice and she's glad they went and I'm not gonna lie I'm making this shit up now because I hadn't actually thought past the night so idk how it ends 😂😂😂

Wee,people are already making comparisons between Anders & Gale...which will probably lead to a butt load of Anders want from haters. Love that for us.🙄

Never been more glad for the block button as it's gonna be gettin' a workout as people are already saying "please don't let him be another Anders". Petty as it sounds, if he ends up worse then I might feel a little vindictive satisfaction if it's well executed.

I find the comparisons so funny because Gale and Anders are actually not at all similar characters. Other than magic + cats + bisexual. That's it. They are very surface level traits that could apply to many people from a fantasy setting. They are completely different in every other aspect, their background, their situation, their goals and so on.

Because of this, from what I've noticed, Anders fans don't overlap with Gale fans. (at least if we mean fan as "this is no.1 or no.2 fave from this game) So lots of Gale fans are certainly making the comparison in a derogatory way. "please don't be like Anders" because they hate Anders.

Anyway... Gale IS worse. He has been from the start. (I say this as someone who enjoys his story and character and I think he is only becoming more interesting.) But recently some Gale fans had surprising reactions... so many Gale romancers say larian is "changing the character". Mates, what game have you been playing? Gale has been a mysterious and dark character from the start. He makes a deal with the devil during early access etc. Insert this meme. lol

Anders is fighting for human rights. It's fine to dislike him, you don't like his methods or the ending or his romance path or his personality. Regardless, he is an extremely selfless character, a healer and also part of an oppressed group. He got really screwed up by life. He had little choice in everything that happened to him before. He was born into a bad situation. That is a fact, even if you think he is a cunt or made terrible decisions when he finally had a choice.

Gale is a wizard prodigy who mingled with the highest elite in a world where his magic is only a positive. His goals have been self-serving (regardless of which backstory we believe). His own choices led to his own bad situation. However he is now, in the present, a nice guy who wants to atone and wants to help people. I suspect that because of this, Gale will always be viewed in a better light and this is why his fans are surprised by the bad things he might have done. You know the rule "show! don't tell!" people's impressions are always more affected by what's happening on screen. Rather than whatever they tell you and what the story alludes to in banter or camp convos.

Also I suspect that in BG3 we will get multiple endings for each companion. And not just "side with him or against him". I think whatever the nicer ending is, that will determine how Gale is viewed. Because it could turn out shit for any of the characters. It's the same in Dragon Age, nobody judges characters based on events that only happen when their approval is low or we actively pushed them towards that ending.

Plus BG3 is a much less political story compared to Dragon Age. I think (hopefully) the drama and arguments shouldn't get that bad. Or at least the drama will be around the usual stupid 10 year olds arguing "how dare you ship them with x when I ship them with y?" That is already happening...

So lol... the extreme hate against Anders is not going anywhere. They probably won't have some sort of realisation that they also like a complicated wizard.

Thank you so much. And I see. Hope you enjoy the rest of the anime since it really is enjoyable, even if it hurts at times. And yes. So many people suffered and since I love more than just my fave it wasn’t nice to see. My fave is Captain Hitsugaya. And of course. Who are actually your faves now that we’re talking about it? He’s still not okay but I know he will be when the time comes since he still has an important part later on (which was kinda shown in one of the first trailers which was a nice surprise). Thank you so much. Like always, mixed. I had a video call with my friend yesterday which lasted two hours and the only reason it ended was because she had to go out to walk her dog. We also plan on calling later again this weekend which I’m looking forward to. I told her about an idea I have for a new story based on the Jujutsu Kaisen series and she approves so I might end up writing that at some point (even though I don’t have as much faith as usual in it since the series is very different from what I usually write about). I was also a bit sad because there’s a fave of mine from a different series that dies at some point and I was rewatching some episodes with him and seeing him being his great self just made it hurt. But I am glad that we got what we did of him because it’s beautiful nonetheless.

I also hope that your week calms down and that you can take it easy in one way or another.

I mostly stuck to reading but I have been told that the fillers in Bleach, while excessive, were at least enjoyable. And honestly, I should have suspected that. Most of the people I know who love Bleach have Hitsugaya as a favourite and I definitely do think he’s a really cool character and I enjoy him, but he’s never been one of my favourites. I do love all of Squad 11, Hanatarou, Renji, Kira, Shuhei, and I’m a huge slut for both Shinji, Akon, and Kensei, not going to lie. All of the Visoreds were amazing. And, since I’ve been massively spoiled and know how everything goes and how the series ends, I know some of those characters really get hurt.

And I’ve watched the entirety of the first season of Jujutsu Kaisen and I definitely get what you mean. The only reason it’s not on my list is because I find it rather difficult to write for so I wish you all the best of luck! And thank you for the well wishes. Today was absolutely brutal…I had to have payroll done by last night and there was two employees who just would not get me their hours for the last week properly and who didn’t swipe as they should’ve through their shifts with their cards…anyway, when one of them called this morning to give me their hours, I had to tell them they missed the deadline for payroll that I had been super clear about and because of that, they were going to be missing last weeks pay off their paycheques. There was nothing I could do about it, honestly…anyway, long story short, I was told at some point during the argument that they hoped I both got raped on the way home tonight or hit by a fucking bus and like…work’s taking care of that and being awesome about it since I had to report that above me but it still fucking sucked. I hate piss poor men who hate being told no by a woman and resort to threats or wishes of violence on them. I’m trying so hard to not be blocked creatively, and to get things done here, even though I’m spending until seven at night at work, and while I love one of my friends dearly, they have been using me as a free therapist lately so rather tough week but you know, things will get better and I’m trying to stay as positive as possible! Taking time for self-care and happiness boosting things like rewatching favourite movies (Ghibli’s been a huge one for me lately because fuck, are they gorgeous)! I hope you, and each and every person reading this, is doing amazing, having fantastic weeks, and remembering to take time for self-care as well!

Okay so I just finished with 5x08 and first off: fuck Justin’s dad. Second of all: damn, i wish that somehow it would’ve been Brian that had to help get Justin out of prison. I just know he’d have something to say but also would be very protective about it. Now: the Ted and Brian conversation KILLED me! The fact that Brian actually admitted all that to Ted? Fuck! I wish i could just give him a huge hug. Also, i love that Brian didn’t end up sleeping with that guy. Aso im glad the bet is over but i will say, the moment when the camera pans to Brian on the plane? I actually laughed so hard. No matter how bad an episode or storyline is, Brian is always funny. The ending got me though ngl. Part of me is confused and the other part is hoping that whatever that means it’s something good for Britin (the you can lock the doors, bar the windows but eventually it’ll get in’ part) he is killing me! Also honorable mentions: i love Lindsey and Brian’s friendship so much, and that moment when he banged his head in the attic before she told him about moving on from his past, if they didnt mention him hitting his head, id fully believe that Gale actually hit himself. And my all time favorite mention, that is actually also a fave Brian moment. I love that there are multiple moments throughout the series, where someone tells him nice things or compliments him or says they wanna help and he goes ‘thats so nice..now what do you need?’ Or like the getting Justin back from NY moment (which btw i still wish we got a little bit of a car moment for the back trip) when Emmett and Ted say theyre going with him because he’s their friend and he says thats nice, now whats the real reason?’ I just love how he always sees through a person and also never takes it as an insult but kinda loves it in a way. Anyway so sorry for rambling about episodes but it’s killing me that It’s ending slowly and there’s no one i know that watched/watches the show :/

Justin's dad being the same piece of shit he was since day one, disappointed but not surprised. The scene with Ted and Brian is one of my favourite ever moments, Brian's self awareness into how his parents fucked him up so that he cannot love properly without fear <- relatable. This is the angle I wish they'd leaned into for him in S5 can you imagine?! Also Ted and Brian's friendship developing at Kinnetik is so important to me.

Be grateful for small mercies he didn't sleep with him, that's not the blue eyed blonde he really wants.

It is bittersweet because anyone complimenting him in a real way or showing concern he finds it hard to hear, Brian is the caretaker that's his job, he does the fixing around here you flip it on him and he doesn't know how to deal with the vulnerability. So he covers it with wit and sarcasm, and addiction issues. Apart from the afore mentioned moment with Ted, however he said it didn't make him feel better, but it did Ted. He's not one to spill his guts - child of trauma syndrome.

He is an expert on reading people though and advice giver extraordinaire, listen to me, are you listening?

I sympathise with the mourning period coming your way, I'm two years in and it doesn't get any better lmao. I'm still here yelling into the void.

Hm interesting question!

I think that on a purely subjective taste level he’s…. Never going to be my personal fave? Like sorry he’s just not the character that grabs me & that’s a purely subjective thing. Simply based on my own personal preferences the sad tortured brooding angst boy is just never gonna be my top fave lol

Now that personal taste bit aside - I do think that you almost *have* to at LEAST be willing to engage with him as a character analytically if you’re going to engage with BTVS as a series or Buffy as a character. Angel is so important to Buffy’s arc. We’ve all (well like, most people? Idk you know what I mean) had an Angel. He’s that first love that shatters your heart but also you’ll always love him a little.

I also think narratively that the Angel-Angelus arc is one of my favorite arcs not just within BTVS but in all of television history. Aside from the dramatic genius of the Angelus reveal ALONE that entire hero-to-villain arc is one of my favorite television arcs ever & I think every other tv drama wishes it was on that level.

Also do I even need to talk about Becoming & Becoming part 2 & what it meant to me when Angelus taunted Buffy about how she had nothing & he asked “what’s left?” & she grabbed the sword & responded “me.” Like. Do I even need to talk about that?

Every other show wishes it could reach the level of drama & tragedy & empowerment of that scene. No other show has ever or will ever or could ever even dream of comparing to Becoming Part 2 & that’s an objective fact ♥️

Here’s where my opinion might be spicy. It’s been years since I’ve watched ATS & there’s enough I remember loving that I wouldn’t sacrifice it BUT. I think - ignoring ATS & all the parts I’m glad exist despite the bad - focusing solely on BTVS - the story would’ve been more powerful if Angel never came back.

Now, I actually love Beauty & the Beasts & I love aspects of Buffy keeping Angel a secret in season 3. But I can 1. Never forgive the way that constant rehashing of Bangel drama hurt Eliza Dushku’s screen time & Faith’s arc 2. Never forgive how damn insufferable & boring Angel is in season 3. It undermines the real & genuine drama of seasons 1 & 2 drama.

Ignoring the way it undermines the drama of the season 2 finale that Angel comes back there’s just SO much screen time wasted on him in season 3 😭 For whaaat? 😭 I’m sorry but 90% of David Boreanaz’s screentime in season 3 should be Eliza Dushku’s 😬

Sooo yeah? I have complicated feelings toward Angel as a character. I think that this response may be misconstrued as an anti-Angel & I do have to reiterate that I think genuinely fully dismissing the Bangel romance or Angel as a character is disingenuous to truly analyzing Buffy the character & the show. But also fuck Angel season 3 he could’ve at least left sooner & not wasted so much screen time in season 3 lmao

Emmerald is another of those characters I love to see the progression of. We must protect. Emmerald baby you're insuferable and you deserve the world<3

Burning the candle is the moment <3 that was when we knew. It was also the moment Yang was cemented as my fave and she never stopped being it, props to Barbara for that classroom scene, it holds a special place in my heart.

As a side note, I can't think about Burning the Candle without remembering Explosivesky's Hollywood AU <3 that fanfic is on another level. Even during my angry-about-Penny era, I would read it from time to time because it's that awesome fg

Glynda and Ironwood's talk is one of my favorite scenes in the volume. Honestly, I miss Glynda, Glynda is a badass.

Cardin bullying Velvet makes so little sense after meeting CFVY lmao! Like, you expect me to believe Coco, Yatsuhashi and Fox didn't beat those idiots to a pulp just for existing around her?! How?! How are they alive?!!!

Jaune has listened to Weiss singing. I feel the unexplicable need to know in which context this happened. Does Weiss sing while studying? Did they had some kind of recital? Did they go karaoke-ing on a missing scene? Is Weiss secretly a popstar who's writting songs about her partners and travels and Jaune owns one of her albums??? Yes I'm still into that dumb headcanon lol.

Roman and Cinder scenes were always a treat to watch, look at my two dumb villains who share one single braincell with Neo and she has it 99% of the time. I really had such a great time with villains in the early seasons. Also, once v3 happened Neo took the cell hostage and Cinder hasn't seen it ever since. makes sense.

Yang's dance dress missing it's pattern is another thing that will never not be funny to me lol poor girl was stuck dressed as an extra!

The Oobleck Zwei combo fight is one of the best things ever lol always one of my favorite parts when watching reactors lol.

Team CFVY, my beloved<3 I hope we get to see more of them in the Vaccuo arc. Bring us the return of Caffeine!!!!!

Weiss' Ice flower to shield the team from the train crash is still one of my favorite moments of her. Weiss excels at the support mage role in her team, and it always delights me seeing her taking care of her team <3 they're the family my girl needed.

I've seen so many critic viewers complain about thr girls leaving Yang fighting Neo because it was clearly a bad match (which doesn't make sense because it literally was the first time we saw her fighting????) But honestly, it wouldn't had made sense any other way. Yang had some kind of personal vendetta against Neo at this point, just like Blake had against Roman. I get the logic conclusions, but characters in the heat of the moment don't usually get to logic conclusions before acting. They are friends, they trust eachother, they had no reason to fight any other way.

I gotta give a shout out to the v2 soundtrack. I love every soundtrack of this series, but v2 is supperb in every sense. Sacrifice is still on my Top3 songs in general (War and Smile being the other 2 and Miracle barely behind). Boop? Amazing, unparalled, that's how you take a beloved character and ship and give them an anthem. Dream come true is just lovely, Jaune, I wished you had seen it sooner... Caffeine? I listened to that song non-stop for a month after I first saw the finale, and it's still that awesome~ All our days holds a very special place in my heart because I used to sing it to my niece to sleep when she was a baby, and it's just the perfect Yang to Ruby song yes I know it's Jeff to Casey and Taiyang to the girls, but it will always be Yang to Ruby for me.

Raven is such an interesting character to me. It's said personality influences semblances or the other way around, and hers is a way to check on her family no matter how far away she is... We're missing so much about her story.

poor picard, forever alone until the last two weeks when TWO lady loves come back into his life and say 'oh yeah turns out we could have been in love but you fucked it up without realising it'. (not to ignore his current lady love who is the only one with the spine to let him NOT fuck it up without realising he is fucking it up).

(I can't believe we are STILL paying for patstew feeling emasculated in the early 90s. the male ego: not even once.)

Ensign Ro is one of those characters that TNG fans have Strong Feelings about, and I am one of those, because I love Bajorans and Cardassians as the true ds9 stan I am. I love seeing Michelle Forbes in things. I hope she was paid a lot to come reprise the character she's seemingly spent her whole career running away from. I suppose that, and the fact that this is a show named after Picard, that the focus will always be on her relationship with Picard. It was the most interesting part of what we got about her, along with our general introduction to the Bajoran faith and people, but we had 7 years of development of them and none of her, I always assumed she was killed when the marquis were slaughtered by the dominion as a favour to the cardassians. Lucky escape, though of course she got killed off. she had her story beat: time to die. (cash that cheque, never look back).

Anyway, not that Picard would have ever done anything with her, due to being Noble Space Coastguard Man who outranks her by about 40 years, but I quite pruriently like the wow wrong bad hot of that dynamic, in a dead dove way. Like as usual I wish we could spend more time in these characters' heads, because god I love people who fail at starfleet more than anything, they are my favourite characters in any show. The dysfunctional relationship between starfleet and those within it is fruit ripe for picking. Picard breaking the rules to sleep with Ro would be absolutely out of character in the most delicious way, to the point I kind of want to write it. Like that is tragedy, highest nobility and loyalty to an institution vs the desires of the human flesh. Genuinely the best. Awful dysfunctional relationship between man who projects wildly onto a younger woman and the younger woman who clings to older man in authority as symbol of the authority she is a bad fit for. Neither of them ever actually engaging with each other as people, therefore doomed to failure.

At the ~ revelation ~ that omg changelings are EVERYWHERE, when Ro says starfleet is corrupted to the highest level I went "what, AGAIN?" Its been 2 years since Romulans took over the top level of starfleet, and now its changelings. I mean, I still think the changelings have been there for twenty years, since the attempted coup in homefront/paradise lost.

I wish this series was...25% less ambitious prestige tv.

Anyway, glad that Jack said something to his mum that he's fucked and seeing things, but all this red and doors and stuff is synth-as-fuck, and honestly it makes no sense for Jack to be a synth even in this series. They can't do synth stuff without agnes and they ruined agnes by making her borg. it makes me miss narek, my problematic fave though. god, remember season 1? seems so long ago.

(IMAGINE IF SEASON 2 HAD BEEN ABOUT REINTEGRATION OF SYNTHS INTO SOCIETY AND EXBORGS AND JUST IN GENERALY NOT WHATEVER IT WAS GDI)

all these close ups of Jack's eyes is really highlighting that he is DRAMATICALLY miscast as a 23 year old, its just funny now. Man has more eye wrinkles than I do and I'm 36.

as we are introduced to more older characters the more I am changing my mind on gates mcfadden's face lift, I think its so uncanny it keeps throwing me out of her scenes because I keep analysing her face. can't do anything about it, and she does look good...if REALLY uncanny.

Worf and Raffi continue to be good, if a little boring. The timelines are converging. It was nice to see Charlie from Fringe as a Vulcan gone bad though. Been a little bit of a fringenaissance on TV this year, with anna torv in tlou and Charlie in this. more of that please. they deserve better.

I still like Shaw, but I like the bad apple captain trope best of all. Remember when we had Lorca and I got so excited about how Disco was going to be a show about actually working under one of the Bad Captains of the Week from TNG era?! Maybe I'm getting it.

(I also think that there's interesting things to unpack about Shaw and Seven's relationship that PERHAPS I might also write something about because mmmm he's a dick, she's bullheaded, what the fuck is she even doing in starfleet other than falling into the trap that so many failed fleeties have before, deconstruction of the protagonist hero trope, seven deserves better but how can she get better when she is in the military, which cares not for individuality?! Like the dichotomy of man who after trauma finds peace in conformity and playing by the rules, vs the woman who knows that conformity is seductive and ends up seduced by it again, and ends up in this job that she is ill-suited for even if she is technically good at it, because she is essentially self-harming by joining the military, the acceptable collective????
