🪻 on hyacinths 🪻

your life faded away

carried on a current as swift and frigid as the northern gales that boreas breathed across the land

scarlet blood flowed from your crown

while my sorrow was carried on the breeze, and rustled through the trees

i cried, sobbed into your still chest, like stone

motionless as hades gripped you gently and brought you home

crystal droplets burned a trail down my bronzed cheeks like a forest fire

finding sanctuary amongst the bright crimson stain below

the colour, it struck me, was so vibrant, beautifully haunting as it painted you

a portrait of beauty now ruined, a streak of pallor across the apple of your cheek

the shine of the glimmering sun reflected in your midnight eyes

everyone i love, so truly, painfully, seems to die as the day begins to rise

this is my fate, i am the culprit

killer of all my desires

as death cared for you like a frightened child

cradling you so gently, perhaps as a lover would

covered you with a shadowed shroud, black and cold

and you were gone.

your blood, a solvent of life falling like raindrops

smear and blacken as it colours the skin

of my knees, they smart and ache

of course it is no match to the wound that stole you away.

droplets, infused with salt and suffering, trickle like rivers

until they meet the precious blood that was spilled

this blemish, bright against the dullness of the land

is my only reminder of you.

as i grab ahold of your body

once so full of life now stiff and cooling

i make a promise and hope

that wherever you may end up, it will reach you and envelope

just as the warmth of you once did to me.

from the vermillion emblem of your dimmed light

flowers will sprout, downy and coloured like the pastel clouds of night.

hyacinths, i will call them

stunning and fragrant, they sprout from their stem

they bloom in the springtime, tinted with devotion and pain

they evoke remembrance, time and time again.

perhaps this is sacrilege, but i cannot seem to care

as finally it is me making an offering

dedicated to you.

this was a cute little poem i wrote in maybe 45 minutes about my favourite flower and the greek myth behind it, from the perspective of apollo. apollo and hyacinthus i love you so very dearly i wish so much that it had worked out for you <33 sorry everyone please enjoy me being pretentious, long-winded and much too lazy to edit <33

ah we've hit another Hyacinthus one!

thankfully, it's fluffy. since it's him meeting Apollo and all lmao

nothing much planned for it right now but it's on the list!!!

OH MY GOSH YES WE HIT THE ONE WHERE I (and Apollo) SCREW PARIS OVER LET'S GO

okay okay. this takes place right after Hector is killed and Apollo is just fuming. he obviously wants to - no, needs to get revenge on Achilles, and luckily he knows his one weak spot!

Unfortunately, Apollo himself can't kill him because (even with his many interferences with the war) an interference as big as that is gonna bring Zeus knocking with a lit thunderbolt.

so. what is our bloodthirsty god to do?

well you know who are allowed to kill mortals? Other mortals!!!

And Apollo quickly finds just the right one for the job - but it's not because of skill or anything like that, oh no.

You see, Apollo hates Paris with a burning passion. Paris caused this whole war to happen. He brought the war to Troy, Apollo's city, and now it's crumbling to the ground and his favored hero/lover is dead. Hector is dead, leaving his wife Andromache without a husband and their son without his father.

Paris, you see, is as good as dead in Apollo's book.

But how, exactly, will he screw the young prince over?

Well, there's always a give-n-take in mythology, correct? Nemesis at work and all - balance. Obviously, Achilles was gonna die anyway even if he didn't kill Hector because he as just way too powerful and was basically Greece's cheat code.

However, to kill Achilles, there must also be a give - and, in my humble opinion, I believe the price in killing Achilles is death upon the killer themself.

And Apollo, god of prophecy, acquaintance of the Fates, and respecter of balance knows this.

Paris is collateral in Apollo's mind. He brought this war to Troy.

So he might as well do something useful and bring about the beginning of the end, avenging Hector in the process, and spare the city some lives.

(even if that latter hope was extinguished as the Achaeans slaughtered every Trojan they saw in the invasion)

Because Apollo, you see, loves deeply and fiercely. Losing Hector is the final straw for him.

And he wants somebody to blame.
