Re:Zero fans are absolutely sleeping on Vincent/Chisha. Seriously, the motherfucker staged a whole coup that led to a civil war, all because he wanted to die in Vincent's place. It's funny, I remember all the theories about Chisha working for Capella and then Tappei was like "nah, it was all for Vincent". And then Vincent stays alive and can't cope with having been saved instead of Chisha. Like, the angst, the sweet, sweet angst, it tastes so good.

Like, come on. Serena even suspects that the emperor might be gay and that's why she can't seduce him (the real reason being that he plans to die, but still).

I also have thoughts on Rem/Katya and Taritta/Mariuli (imagine getting your gf stolen by the stars, lmao), but that's for another day.

TL:DR Glory to Vollachia, Queer Capital of the Re:Zero world.

I know there are plenty of good scenes in the Re:Zero LN/WN that get talked about plenty (there are too many to even give examples lol), but you know what I never see get talked about?

Arc 7 ch 12 spoilers

The scene where Subaru wakes up and sees, in horror, that, due to his intel, the people of Shudraq managed to ravage the empire's military camp without major losses.

Now as to why I love that scene, its because, way earlier, we see a perfect parallel to it.

Way earlier in chapter 8 when he gets woken up by Todd, it is shown that, due to his intel of Witchbeasts inhabiting the forest, they were allowed to burn down the forest with all the people inside.

Both scenes have Subaru wake up and see that due to his actions, due to helping one of the two groups, they're able to horribly and painfully kill most of the other group, with one of the members of the group surviving and hunting Subaru down (Utukata immediately after the forest burned and Todd a bit later on after the camp was attacked).

A lot of the time, when Subaru dies and has to redo, he either regresses due to lack of information or trauma (Arc 2) or he still progresses further, even if not by much, he still does better than last time.

His wish is to get him and Rem back home and after dying due to the poison arrow after the forest burns down, he doesn't progress, he doesn't do better, he just does it differently. His action still kills many people either way, and it's not like it's black and white, where one side is strictly good and the other strictly bad. The Shudraq have killed Subaru once while looking for Rem in the forest early on, and the empires soldiers are ready to burn an entire forest down. But both are still humans, they aren't Withbeasts or Cultists. Just Humans.

This is one of the few times where Subaru doesn't regress or progress, he just chooses a different but similar path and has to come to realize that he can't save everybody and that saving everybody isn't his job.

Anyway, R0 brainrot is real.

(Regarding Emilia's cloak post) I believe it's stated somewhere that it depends too if the person in the cloak wants to be recognized by that person or not.

But also, on another detail of it that's fascinating, are you caught up on at least arc 7's end?

Ohhh, I forgot about that feature! It makes sense if that's why Emilia couldn't recognize Subaru, though I do believe that Julius recognized them before Emilia properly noticed him (opening the door in her face/being out of her sight that she turned around)

As for being caught up... nope. I haven't read any of the arcs fully, though I have read and know enough to know general events up to the start of arc 8

Is it about Abel's Oni mask being similar to the cloak in an identity-protecting way? When I made the post, I wondered if the cloak ever made an appearance again in later chapters, since it's pretty useful

(there will still be a post tomorrow to keep on track) #The original 3 panel comic idea was fine but the point of this new schedule was to take time to push myself a bit more. #I was taking a look back through some comic artists I felt inspired by #and I really loved how Lynda Barry fills her gutters with patterns and doodles! #Obviously I'm not going as absolutely wild with it as she does but it was a great exercise! #I truly think the gutters are the most important and most overlooked part of any comic. There's lots going on in that space. #It's the same with timeskips. The implied movement between moments that we don't see changes depending on how wide that gap is #You're here for the funny tags so here's some that ties this time talk together: #I think LWJ was thinking about that second note from day 2 but it took him 7 days of hazing to commit it to paper. #I think he sends it a day later and immediately regrets it. Chasing down the messenger and everything. #You know if something actually happened to his brother he would never ever forgive himself for putting the bad vibes out there. #Third time skip was the hardest because there was so many possible flavours of jokes here. Day 8/9 was a personal favourite. #day 14 was also funny (week by week). I think the debate on 'how long does lwj take to catch feelings' is more or less: #'how long does it take for him to arrive at a particular stage of grief and yearning (and awareness of it all) #This is a symphony. There is an act by act structure. Every day he is fighting to keep his old sensibilities. He is losing so badly. #(I'll be returning to the main comic soon but there is more of this AU to come!)

And.... If that crow..... Is.... The father.... Nooo way by the great 7, that Queen Maleficia would not bring back his feather *** to Briar Valley, or be wronged by him !! She IS POWERFUL !! She could detect Malleus's overbloat from her kingdom 😩 !

Anyway...

🌸Let's enjoy some soft headcanon:

▪️Mallenoa/noire having her egg would definitely bring it everywhere showing off everyone how perfect it is !! How shiny and beautiful the shell is... That's a mommy dragon for you.

▪️She definitely has swinging mood, from crybaby "Lilia huuuh you'll help me right ?" , to "shrrhhhrrrrggg *hissing* don't touch my baby, I'll kill you !" . Even her husband is not allowed to touch it, let alone Queen Maleficia.

▪️She hoped for the baby to be healthy no matter its gender, but secretly tried to guess it using her flammes and light/shadow movement. Making the maids of the castle scared about such behavior.

▪️She creates nest everywhere.... Dragon instinct I guess.

▪️Sings lullaby to her egg while Lilia is watching (making him also sings lullaby later)

▪️She asks her mother every hours how much time again for her baby to be born. She is very impatient.

▪️She carries her egg around while using her tail... (please be canon ah ah)

▪️She also tells her baby, that she'll teach them how to be evil and mischevious, and how definitely it feels great to bother everyone around.

▪️When she is feeling her baby moving inside, she creates thunder of joy. Making the country worried and causing chaos.

▪️She wanted a rattle made out of precious metal and gems (dragon hello !! "once upon a time" tv serie hello !!). But with the crisis situation, weapons and protection charms were crafting first.

▪️She was scared of being hurt during the hatching process baby/mommy, that one night she came acrossed a mermaid who also had a "baby egg" telling her it doesn't hurt as she would think ! Making her relax since they're different species with related biological system (Sea Coral are their neighboor let me dream that Briar Valley has some mermaids... ) mommies emotional support !!

▪️When her baby would have hatched, she talked with her mother about travelling around the world to speak about fairies, magic, and peace. No more wars or sacrifice even if she's ready to get rid of humans. (She was a good relative of the Queen's Queendom of Roses of that time)

▪️Her mother kept reminding her that while being a egg, she was turbulent and kept kicking her shell, or putting the castle on fire.

▪️She decided of a lot of babies names with her husband. (a looooooong list)

▪️She received lot of baby birth gifts from Briar Valley's aristocratie, but the best gift was a pillow,... perfect to hold the egg and later let the baby sleeps peacefully without being bothered by their horns.

▪️She is called "mistress of all evil" and decided that her baby would be called "the ruler of abyss" , making her laugh "oh oh oh" like the evil fairy she is.

▪️She also wanted a bapteme and blessing for her baby just like the Disney. Making Lilia a bit perplexed and mocking her. But revealing soon after that she wants Lilia's blessing for "her perfect so perfect baby" and taking the role of their nanny. (making Lilia even more disgusted while looking at her shadowy smiling face)

▪️She also wanted the Blue Fairy (Bleue) to be part of her baby blessing. The enchantress (beauty and best fairy yes !) would also have take part of the fest.

well, I can't say I expected the new chapter to feature Idia (metaphorically) going to (metaphorical) hell, getting a pep talk from his (metaphorical) Phantom brother which helps him finally move on once and for all from his brother's death, and (metaphorically) overblotting again to fight his way back out of (metaphorical) hell, only to have his darkest fear (non-metaphorically) come true when his mom goes through his computer and finds all his secret files. but I am glad it did!

also this is all a flashback for the purpose of explaining to our group what the heck is going on (whether or not any of it is getting through is another matter)
