tbf ive only seen part of robots in disguise, then all of prime and rescue bots, so im limited, but!

i have to stick to the classics and go with chase or arcee, arcee a little bit more so. little me liked silly blue autistics with traumatic experiences and arcee made me think i was les when i was 9-10ish so.

otherwise ratchet, airachnid, all the other rescue bots, grimlock, starscream, (tfp) bumblebee, sound/shockwave (the triangle bitch i havent finished my rewatch YET AND my memory sucks), and knockout are very much up there in no particular order.

finally finished a comic commission WHOOF!! it's a scene from chapter 16 of the fic Addendum by @pluralsword, which i've drawn for before!

the fic is focused on Arcee's gender journey and her conflicts against hierarchy from the era of Nova Prime up through to past the end of IDW1's canonical run. the art depicts Anode and Lug meeting Arcee for the first time, something Pluralsword has dreamed for years of having a visual representation of, ever since xey learned that Arcee and Anode canonically knew each other sometime during the Great War before Anode and Lug's disappearance in 1516 CE on Luna 2. if you want to read about a discussion of specifically canonical IDW1 Arcee's story across the comics of that continuity and the many overlaps with real trans history of dealing with and surviving transmedicalism, gatekeeping, and a violent hierarchic androcentric world, along with finding love and community, and how her personality is a direct successor of G1 Arcee, including a bit on the two's combined legacy of sweetness and ferocity that both have, you can also check out this essay Pluralsword wrote

I kinda realized one of the asthetic choices in prime, by making the energon blue in aligned continuities vs pink in G1 is that Arcee is always blood colored. And in Prime the Autobots, especially OP have blood colored eyes. The human's miss it but Arcee is threat colored to other cybertronians.

Which gives me the vibe of why Megatron uses red paint for the arena. One cultural significance to the Kaonian arena gladiatorial culture and two blood/energon won't obscure the designs. The red will in fact contrast nicely.

But when he's out of the arena in the actual revolution? He paints the designs in the ancient Kaonian Warlord way, using the blood of his enemies. Soundwave is quietly amused.

I adore how tfp has accidentally given the autobots and energon cool associations, and this is why it's fun to see the autobots through the eyes of Decepticons and Neutrals. Energon has so much fun symbolism with life and death, and Arcee is an amazing example.

The reasoning behind the red paint makes sense, and god him painting intricate designs in actual lifeblood energon has gotta be beautiful and is a lovely inversion of his past colors (esp if this is after his optics have been changed out for red)

It's funny, JRo is better at doing character focused narratives than Barber, but my actual favorite IDW1 characters (OP and Arcee) are on the later's stories

#i think it may have to do with the fact that op and arcee feel like they have more complete arcs #zahsvhs arcee has overall the best arc #i mean it feels like Barber managed to stick the landing with the series cancellation better #unicron-op feel like a better overall narrative than ll especially thematically #and arcee and op's characters are linked to those themes #arcee has like the best arc in all of idw1 #whereas while the character interactions are more entertaining on a page by page basis in LL #the narrative became clunky and a lot of characters felt incomplete or that they were left hanging #not that jro doesn't hav characters thay have permanently melted my brain rewind my beloved #mmm prowl lends itself to both writer's style so well tho #quetzal rambles tf
