Cheetahchirp: Hiya Deerpaw! How are you settling into your new den? It must be nice having a huge den to yourself, but I hope it isn’t lonely in there…. Want to know a secret? When I was a kit, my fur was so big, I used to get stuck in the nursery entrance until they eventually widened the opening for me…. In my opinion, cats like us aren’t too big for the dens, the dens are just too small!!!

[I don't mind being alone... Sometimes I need rest from all the hustle and bustle of the clan life! But, you are right... the dens could always be bigger,,!]

last few things for my Bitter Berries wc ocs. i have more designs by my friends and other shit we’re workin on so keep ur eyes peeld cuz i wanna post art that makes me happy and i am having a lot of fun with this tbh :J (click alt text for some extra info)

to summarize, the story is about a Stagclan medicine cat named yewblossom who has a vendetta against weak cats due to a bad experience in her apprenticeship, which leads to her loosing a few too many cats for comfort. It follows the point of view of her and her new apprentice, Deerpaw, who has to traverse the treacherous path yewblossom is trying to set them on, alongside the deputy, Patchleap, and their friends.

all of this takes place after Troutclan takes advantage of Stagclan during a particularly ruthless greencough outbreak and attacks them to claim some territory that sadly results in many casualties, due to injuries or sickness, including Yewblossom’s beloved mentor, Hickoryshade. This sets her on her warpath and instills within her a dangerous principle: the weak should not get in the way of the strong. so basically if warrior cats took eugenics in the clans more seriously and addressed how fucked up it is

DOESTAR!!

I'm still messing around with my ThunderClan family tree fix, but one thing I'm HARD decided on is that Speckletail is part of her family. Her name refers to the speckling on a fawn.

Doestar is now the daughter of Deerdapple and Thrushtalon, her siblings are Deerpaw and Stagleap. Stagleap and Harepounce have one child so far, Speckletail, but I'm still looking to shuffle.

(One-eye is not her sister anymore. One-eye is a lot older than Speckletail, almost 20 when Speckle's like 14. Meemaw is an ANCIENT cat.)

I like Doestar's description of "creamy ruff" so much that I'm making it her family's thing. It's a patchy, irregular mane of spikes like that of a wet red deer.

BUT ANYWAY. BB!Doestar's not a sweetie. She continued the Crusades after Oakstar lost his last life to them, in his honor. Doestar ruled from the mid-Crusade Era to the early Campaign Era, leaving Pinestar in charge when she lost her final life to starvation.

Pinestar rules for a long, long time. He really doesn't like warfare and tries to avoid it when possible, but still taking care to not violate the Right of Challenge and prevent his cats from fighting. He really likes creative stunts like the Adderfang/Mudfur battle, though that particular idea backfired.

And that's Doestar! A crusader who appointed a much more peaceful leader after her.

I’ve tried to keep coat colors as genetically accurate as possible but with mostly canon eye colors. I’ve also tried to avoid all instances of incest. If I’ve overlooked anything LMK.

Notes on changes from canon blow the cut :)

Rainfur is the sister of Doestar and Deerpaw. She is from a later litter of their parents’. She has a relationship with a WindClan cat, Sandgorse’s sibling, and they have Tawnyspots, Thrushpelt, and Dappletail. And yes, they are cousins with Talonstar (Tallstar).

After Moonflower’s death, Stormtail decides to pursue Dappletail, despite the fact she only receives her warrior name after his daughters have become apprentices. They have Cricketkit and Featherkit together. The two kits pass soon after their birth and the two separate.

Much later Dappletail has a litter of kits (Red, Willow, and Spotted) with an unnamed cat, probably a loner.

Snowfur is now Snowstorm. Her son is named after her.

Redtail and Runningwind are mates and have Sandstorm together. Sandstorm’s kithood and Redtail’s deputyship overlap.

Willowpelt has three litters. The first is Lighttail (Longtail) and Darkstripe, the second Graystripe, and the third Sootfur, Rainwhisker, and Sorreltail. The first two are with unnamed loners/housecats. The third litter is older than canon and are apprentices by the time the battle with BloodClan occurs. Sorreltail is initially Darkstripe’s apprentice.

Silverstream doesn’t die in childbirth, instead Graystripe preemptively decides to move to RiverClan upon learning she’s pregnant. Silverstream dies along with Stonetalon (Stonefur) while running from TigerClan.

The whole Graystripe and Millie plot happens. When Graystripe returns and finds that both of his kits have left the clans, he decides to move back into ThunderClan.

Brackenfur and Cinderlight (Cinderpelt) are born later than canon and are apprenticed around the same time as Brightheart and Thornclaw, who were found abandoned and are fostered by Frostfur.

Switching up TNP and PO3 relationships, Squirrelflight and Crowstorm (Crowfeather) have a fling that results in Alderheart, Jayflight (Jayfeather), and Sparkstorm (Sparkpelt). At the same time, Leafpool is in a relationship with Mothwing, and they have Lionblaze, Hollyshine (Hollyleaf), Juniperkit, and Dandelionkit. The two litters are born at the same time and the five surviving kits are raised together by Squirrelflight with no stated sire.

Stormfur dies instead of Feathertail in the mountains. The tribe’s prophecy involves a silver cat and the storm. When Stormfur is later fighting Sharptooth, both are struck by lightning and die. Crow asks to be named after him.

Jayflight and Berrynose are mates, but Jay is uncomfortable with the idea of carrying kits, so they approach Poppyfrost to act as a surrogate. During this, they grow closer. Berrynose becomes mates with Poppyfrost as well, and Jay and Poppy are besties.

Brightheart and Cloudtail have their second litter much sooner than canon, between Ferncloud’s second and Sorreltail’s first. Ambermoon and Dewnose are born during the journey while they stay with the tribe.

Cinderheart is instead Emberheart, to remember both her aunt Cinderspark and her uncle Sootfur who die in the fight against the badgers. The reincarnation plot does not happen.

Lilyheart has litter with an unnamed cat, probably a loner.

As she is now much older than (and related to) Larksong, Sparkstorm has her litter with Toadstep. Ferncloud, Toadstep, and Flickerkit die in the Dark Forest battle when a cat gets into the nursery. Whitewing fosters Finch and Flame while she’s grieving.

Stormcloud and Cherryfall become mates and have Flywhisker, Snaptooth, and Spotfur.

Instead of Sorreltail, it’s Brackenfur that dies in the Dark Forest battle. Sorrelstripe is now Brackenstripe.

Blossomfall and Ivypool are mates. Both have litters of kittens with loners and raise them together. Bristlefrost looks up to Stemleaf as an older brother figure.

deerpaw

lonesome, quick to make peace

warrior app. deerpaw and both his littermates survived the fire, but rabbitpaw succumbed to their wounds soon after. after the flood, rosepaw decided enough was enough; she was one of the cats who found twolegs. and so, deerpaw was the only one left of his family. he could not abandon his clan, even to be with his only remaining family, but even so, he felt incredibly lonely. despite that, deerpaw is always encouraging others to cherish what they have and make peace, seeking to preserve relationships where he can. even then, he struggles to maintain a relationship with his own younger brother because yewkit reminds him too much of before.

mousepaw

cunning, quick witted

warrior app. before the disasters, mousepaw was your average friendly apprentice. he bantered easily with the warriors; they appreciated his wit. then the drought, fire, and floods came and washed away some of his cheerfulness. now, he's cunning, a bit colder, and his wit is often sharper than it used to be.

relationships //

he somewhat likes cricketrise, quailflip, and leafstar

despite his mentor liking him, mousepaw doesn't reciprocate it; he barely respects sunscratch and thinks he has a stick up his ass

dapplekit

troublesome, morbid curiosity

kit. dapplekit was born to quailflip after the fire, and he doesn’t entirely remember the flood. but he remembers enough that he still has nightmares and asks painfully probing questions like "did it hurt when bristleflower drowned in the water?"

relationships //

quite fond of sagebranch, mousepaw, leafstar

he's even very fond of sunscratch!

but barely likes quailflip? but finds comfort in her

yewkit

bullying, moss-ball hunter

kit. he does not remember the disasters; he was barely a moon old when the flood came. he was the only one of his family to survive other than deerpaw, and even then he barely made it. it’s only thanks to sagebranch and quailflip that lived. the rest of his remembered life was spent constantly on the move; he felt very unsettled and took it out on those around him. the clan settled somewhere when he was four moons old, fortunately. hopefully he'll relax.

relationships //

he does not have a lot of strong bonds

not even great friends with dapplekit or his own brother

but he likes cloverfrond and quailflip

Summary: well, the drama is starting. I didn’t write down every time but consistently every moon someone is worrying about wether they can swim.

The prophecy was made using numbers and natural disaster wheel of names and prophecy generators.

So how did the clans first meet rusty and princess? Did they know they were savannah cats or did they think they were normal house cats untill they grew?

Thunderclan met them like they did in canon. Two young kittypets ( with very nice spotted coats ) screwing around the edge of their territories. They pass the test, with Rusty taking on Lizardtail (Longtail) and Princess with Darkstripe.

The other Clans met them during the Gathering. And was shocked to see them since they are slighty bigger than normal apprentices along with their origins. And once they fully grow, some will fear them and will urge TC to ban them from battle or banish them because that tips the scales to their favor.

Others might use manipulatation to get them to join their clan with befriending and gifts. Or at least make them neutral to said clan.

It makes ole Bluestar mighty pissed because some dont even try to hide what they are doing.

RC: Join us. We have tasty fish that makes your coat glossy, water to swim in, and pretty things like shells to line your nest in! And nice rocks to sun on all day and watch losers sulk >:)

WC: Join us. We have wide open spaces to stretch out those long legs, rabbits to sink your teeth in, and an open view to Silverpelt during the night! We also near Mothermouth. You know, the place that has that connects us to Starclan. Thats has to account for something right?

SC: Join us. You like that pinetree smell? We have that in spades. The constant shade the said trees give along with our marshe can make your pelt blend in easily with surroundings! Plus you get to eat our unique reptiles and frogs that you won't find anywhere else. Just ignore the death place that has poisoned food and you're golden.

EDIT. I just realised i missed the other part of your ask. Sorry! They thought they were regular cats. Just slightly bigger and nice spotted coats. When they grew beyond what was beyond normal and slightly off features like did they realize something wasn't right.

(free time; sibling bonding; leaffall)

"Mallowstep!" Deerpaw cried. "Mallowstep, come look!"

Mallowstep yawned. "Deerpaw, if this is just another leaf..." he grumbled, stretching out his back and walking across camp.

"This one is cool," Deerpaw said, pointing to it with his paw.

"It's just a maple leaf."

"Yeah, but look -- it's a different colour."

"Right. That's what happens in leaffall. They change and fall off."

Deerpaw wriggled, like he was adjusting for a pounce. "But this one is nice."

"You say that about every leaf!"

Behind him, Mallowstep heard Kestrelsong snicker.

"Come on, it's his first leaffall. Let him have fun." She licked Mallowstep's shoulder. "I remember a certain someone getting soaked on the first snowfall last year."

"That was both of us," Mallowstep said. "Crickettail was so mad at us."

"Right, and this does no harm." Kestrelsong flicked her tail towards Deerpaw, who was currently diving into a pile of leaves that had blown against the wall. "I wish I still had his energy." She leaned her head against Mallowstep. "Mossytail keeps asking me if I want to go for a walk, but honestly, just climbing out of the gorge seems exhausting."

"Well, you're getting close to kitting."

Kestrelsong purred. "Hm. Still."

"Mallowstep! I found another one!"

He groaned. "This is why we can't encourage him. He'll never stop."

Kestrelsong lifted her head, her eyes shining. "Hey, Deerpaw! I want to see your leaf!" She started off across camp, and Mallowstep shook his head. She had put off moving into the nursery until recently, and it was like all the lethargy she had been fighting crashed into her at once.

She still resented it, alternating between pacing around camp and napping outside Mallowstep and Oakfrost's den, and took any challenge head on.

Mallowstep was dreading the day she couldn't quite make it out of the nursery with ease.

Deerpaw clutched a whole mouthfull of leaves, trilling and bunting against Kestrelsong.

"She loves me," he said, laying them out. "She wants to see my leaves."

"You're so dramatic," Mallowstep groaned. "Alright, c'mon. What do we have?"

"Mostly maples," Deerpaw said. "But this one is a birch."

"I like it," Kestrelsong said.

Deerpaw turned his gaze to Mallowstep. He sighed. "I like them too, Deerpaw." He licked his younger brother's head. "But if you wake me up again, I will tell Lichenpelt to make you clean out all the leaves in camp."

Deerpaw's ears flattened.

"He doesn't mean that," Kestrelsong said. "He's still got that feather you gave him in his nest."

Mallowstep's ears flattened.

"Hah! You do love me!"

"Of course I love you, furball," Mallowstep said. "I'm just tired. Between you and Piperheart and Wrenwhisker, I've been up all night and now all day."

"Sorry," Deerpaw muttered. "I forgot that they were hurt."

Mallowstep sighed. "It's alright." He was exhausted, after spending all night fetching blackberry leaves to soothe the stings they got trying to fetch him what they thought was abandoned honeycomb, as well as monitoring their breathing in case they had gotten too many stings, but he couldn't stay mad at Deerpaw.

Kestrelsong started to speak, but Deerpaw's head whipped to the side.

"Aspenface!" Deerpaw called. "Aspenface, come look what I found!" He gathered the leaves up, and Mallowstep sighed in relief.

Kestrelsong nosed his shoulder. "You wanna go nap?" she asked. "I hear there's an available patch of sun."

He purred. "Yeah, but if Deerpaw wakes us up, you're dealing with him."

Zachary was always an adventurous and mischievous kitten, often venturing far into Twolegplace and searching for the forest, although he always returned back home to his housefolk. It wasn't until he was older and stronger, over six moons, when he finally reached the forest. He heard rumors of forest cats, but he never thought he'd actually run into them until one day an apprentice named Quailpaw caught him trying to hunt a mouse on ShadowClan territory. She chased him away, but Zachary was too intrigued by the forest cats being real- and too pampered as a well-loved kittypet- to be scared of her. His curiosity and open-heartedness baffled Quailpaw, and despite her initial sharpness, the two found themselves meeting up often, where they would talk and play all night and Quailpaw would teach him how to hunt and fight as his 'mentor.'

It was when Quailpaw's brother, Hawkpaw, discovered them, that problems arose. The medicine cat apprentice was adamant that sharing 'ShadowClan secrets' with a kittypet was wrong and demanded his sister chase off that 'unwanted stray.' Quailpaw, although hesitant and regretfully, did, telling Zachary to never come back. At first, Zachary stayed away, moping in his housefolk's den, but then one day Quailpaw appeared at his window and begged for him to come join ShadowClan- that she missed him a lot and really liked him. Zachary said he couldn't just abandon his housefolk like that, but Quailpaw told him about SkyClan's old daylight-warriors and said if he proved himself to the clan perhaps he could become a daylight-warrior. Zachary agreed and they set off for ShadowClan.

Convincing Dapplestar to let Zachary join was near impossible, but her daughter and deputy, Frecklespeckle, was intrigued by Zachary's determination, and convinced her mother to let Zachary join under a 'trail period.' Zachary wanted to keep his kittypet name, and was apprenticed to Beetlespots, Quailpaw's mother. Beetlespots was stern and harsh on Zachary, but soon developed a soft spot for the cheerful kittypet, accepting him as a clanmate.

Life wasn't easy as a daylight-apprentice, though. Most of his new clanmates refused to let him eat any fresh-kill, stating he had plenty of kittypet slop to eat. Hawkpaw treated him horribly most of all, actively trying to convince and pressure him into leaving the clan and staying for away from Quailpaw. Another apprentice, Twigpaw, was mean to Zachary as well, although she never attempted to undermine him like Hawkpaw. Some nights, Zachary would sleep in camp, and return home the next day to greet his housefolk, who were only growing more and more concerned and trying to stop Zachary from leaving the den at all. But Zachary persisted despite it all.

Slowly, he stopped sleeping inside his housefolk's den, knowing they'd only lock him inside. Instead, he greeted them at a distance, although it broke his heart. He even brought Quailpaw and their best friend, Dewpaw, along with him to meet his twolegs. One day, though, when with Quailpaw and Dewpaw, he noticed traps. He realized exactly what their purpose was too late when he entered one and was trapped- his housefolk planned to keep him inside forever! He told Quailpaw and Dewpaw to get help, and Dewpaw ran back. It wouldn't be long before his housefolk realized they'd caught Zachary.

A patrol came to help right as his housefolk had snatched him and started to take him to their car, which he realized was because they intended to take him to the cutter's to take away his tomhood. Quailpaw had been trapped inside another cage, and the two were shoved into the car while the patrol attacked the twolegs but failed to stop them. The car drove off and the patrol set after them. They lost track of the car and asked a she-cat known as Unknown for help. She guided them (as well as creeped them out with ominous words and unblinking eyes) to the cutters, where the warriors made it just in time to attack the twolegs. They forced them to drop Quailpaw's cage, breaking it and allowing her to escape. But she didn't want to abandon Zachary like Silverspring and Frecklespeckle were willing to, and neither did Dewpaw, Beetlespots, nor Cloudtuft, so she rushed back into the car and dragged his cage out with the help of Beetlespots while the others distracted the twoelgs. They shoved the cage to the ground but had to work to open it. When they did, the warriors ran as fast they could, only for disaster to strike as Beetlespots was hit by a car when they crossed a thunderpath.

The traffic was too fast for them to retrieve her body, so the warriors left without her body. At camp, they mourned her, and some cats like Hawkpaw, Cloudtuft, and Dapplestar blamed Zachary for her death. But he swore that he would never enter twolegplace again, and that while he knew his twolegs were well-intentioned, in the end, they were nothing but destructive, and that the kittypet was no life for him. He requested a new name, and Dapplestar decided to give him one- Deerpaw. His new mentor was Brownpetal, a warrior with a sharp temper but surprisingly didn't care about Deerpaw's history. He hated him as equally as every other cat.

Deerpaw in the coming moons proved himself loyal to his clan, and soon he and his denmates had earned their names- Deerflame, Quailfoot, Hawkhollow, Dewfeather, and Twigclaw. While nervous, Deerflame decided to officially ask Quailfoot to be his mate, and was ecstatic when she said yes. In the next moon, Quailfoot was already expecting their first litter, and soon birthed one single kit after a difficult kitting. They named her Sparrowkit and loved her stronger than any other parents could. They were never prouder of her when she became an apprentice, often doting over her. They teased her about her obvious crush on Ashpaw, and spoiled her rotten when they could.

Moons went on and Deerflame became a respected warrior among on the clans, despite the red collar he kept around his neck. He mentored his granddaughter, Miraclemoon, and he and Quailfoot had another litter consisting of Redkit, Covekit, and Whiskerkit. His love for his family was never stronger, and he fought against the threat of BoneClan rogues as fiercely as any other ShadowClan warrior. When he and Quailfoot decided to move to the elders' den, the entire clan supported them and was happy to take care of the respected warriors. Quailfoot passed before him, dying in her sleep peacefully. He wasn't lonely or sad, though, knowing he'd soon meet her in StarClan. He met his end when he ate prey that had been poisoned by BoneClan rogues. He denied any herbs or treatments Wolfheart or Tigershine, the current medicine cats, tried to give him, saying his time had come and to use it on the younger cats who had a long life ahead of them.

He reunited with Quailfoot in StarClan, and they watched their kin happily from above.

just got back from the gathering and ugh! deerpaw’s warrior name is deerdapple, that’s way too cool for her!!! gorsestar forgot to announce my name at the gathering, I think he was too distracted by deerdapple I’m so mad!

I made sure not to cheer for her when runningstar announced her name, but grasstail got mad at me for it. she’s not even my mentor anymore she can’t tell me what to do!

apparently skyclan and shadowclan are fighting over something, I think shadowclan’s deputy disappeared on skyclan’s territory or something? I don’t really care, but deerdapple asked me what I thought about it as if she knew I wasn’t paying attention! she thinks she’s so much better than me UGH! how am I supposed to go to sleep knowing that deerdapple got a cooler name than me?
