The Evermore Grimoire: Mermaids of the Seven Seas
The Baltic Mermaids are a pod of mermaids who can change their world beneath the surface of the Baltic Sea. They have beautiful tails in shades of green and purple which reflects their enriched life under the sea alongside their love of adorning themselves in jewellery made of shells. Their true power though comes from their ability to reshape their underwater world however they see fit by reforming the minerals and rocks that lie on the sea bed (Geokinesis). This has made these mermaids the most prosperous of all the mermaids pods within the Seven Seas as it’s believed that their world is actually a reflection of the infamous lost city of Atlantis. After the war between Merman and Mermaids, the Baltic Mermaids used their magic to create water portals that allows them to travel to different oceans in an instant. Thus allowing them to stay connected to other mermaid pods around the world, should another war ever arise in the near future. In recent years these mermaids have also welcomed the Arctic Mermaids into their pod after their home slowly began to change thanks to climate change, showing that they are incredibly friendly and welcoming. They are also really curious about the surface world which can be both a blessing and a curse to them. It’s even believed that ‘Once Upon a Time’ a mermaid from this pod became the inspiration for a well-known story that since echoed throughout the ages. This included a statue being erected in her honour that now sits proudly in the city of Copenhagen which just so happens to overlook the Baltic Sea.

A/N: Hello:) a short chapter from Steve’s point of view. Have fun reading and please don’t forget to leave some feedback and to reblog it. It means a lot, really.
Pairing: Steve Rogers x mermaid reader
Warnings: suicidal thoughts? Kinda?
Tumblr media
Steve’s PoV
As soon as he got back to the compound he felt something was missing.
Well, someone.
„Pal, it’ll be-“ „I’m gonna go take a nap“, he interrupted Bucky, feeling incredibly bad about it but if he had to honest with himself he just wanted to crawl beneath his covers and sleep for the rest of the day..or as long as it’s take for him to forget about you.
Steve had thought you’d be more hurt-that you’d take some more time till actually disappearing into the depths of the sea but…maybe he was wrong, maybe you didn’t care about him as much as he cared about you.
As soon as he entered his bedroom he threw himself onto the bed, sighing dramatically. Steve threw the covers over himself, burying his head into his pillow. He took a deep breath and-
“For fucks sake”, the pillow smelled like you. He couldn’t really describe your smell, it has something salty or sea-ish in it, but was at the same time sweet. Addicting. It was addicting.
Even though he knew he’d hurt himself more while doing it-he pressed his nose back into the pillow, enjoying the last moments this would last. He was sure it’d be gone soon, but for now it was all he needed to feel at least a bit better. To have his heart feel like it was ripping apart. Breaking in million pieces…
Who was he kidding?
It was already broken.
He felt awful. He had never felt this bad before. Not even when Peggy had died and he had always believed he had been in love with her… but maybe…maybe he was in love now? Maybe love was supposed to feel like this? Like broken glass that was slowly falling apart with every touch. Steve felt like broken glass and was slowly falling apart with every reminder of you.
He felt empty. He felt empty after having given you his whole heart. You took it with you. Unintentionally. But you took it. And now Steve only felt pain, sadness and yet at the same time emptiness.
A single tear rolled down his face as he slowly felt himself falling asleep.
His dreams were filled with water. Deep waters, he could tell it was the sea. Was it one of his nightmares about sinking the Valkyrie? No…it was something different. It wasn’t a nightmare. He felt rather…at peace. As if he was close to home. As if the water was his home. Which…was weird. He hated the deep sea. Or any deep water to be exact.
And then he saw people. And a castle. And armor and…god there were so many guards. Where the hell did those dreams come from?
It was all blurry, like an old memory, but still clear enough for him to recognise the scene.
It was your memory-or rather, the current moment.
Then someone wrapped you in a tight hug and Steve woke up with a gasp.
You were home.
You made it home safely.
And he was…relieved? Maybe? Or was he rather angry? Heartbroken?
You just left him. And you made him watch your Happy End?
Where was his Happy End? It was supposed to be with you.
He thought it was forever after love…
That kind of love you read books about, that love you saw in movies-but he wasn’t in a movie. He wasn’t in a book.
This was life.
And he was never meant to have a Happy End.
He was a soldier. He’d always be a soldier, nothing else.
So that’s exactly what he’d throw himself into. His destiny was to fight. So he’d fight.
But not the fight he’d want to fight.
His fight was already over. His love was gone.
Steve was gone the next day. First he went to Fury, asking him for something he’d make himself busy with-a undercover mission in Europe, close to the Baltic Sea. Fine with him. He only told Bucky he’d be away on a mission and had no idea when he’d be back.
Within hours he was on his way to Germany to his new small cabin close to the beach, where he’d probably spend his free time too. Just watching the water…imaging you and what you were doing.
Maybe you were with your family, maybe with some partner, maybe…god what if they want you to marry someone?
He shook his head at that. This wouldn’t make sense, right?
He shook his head again, this time rather in annoyance about himself. All he wanted was to get his head empty from all the thoughts about you, yet it seemed impossible.
It’s like you filled up his whole mind, all his thoughts, just…just every fiber of his body.
A tear escaped the corner of his eyes, which he quickly wiped away not wanting to show any weaknesses, even though he was alone.
After unpacking his things he sat down on the porch, just looking at the sea. It felt in a way very calming…and at the same time very upsetting.
Would this feeling ever go away?
The days went by. He dreamed about the sea and merpeople evey night and during the same his mind was filled with you. Every.fucking.day.
He was sick of it-and he actually felt really sick.
Steve was tired. His whole body ached. He felt dehydrated, even though he still tried drinking as much water as possible-or at least enough. He wasn’t hungry-and if he ate, he felt like puking.
Was it some Virus? But on the other hand…he couldn’t get sick. It was impossible. The serum prevented him from getting sick.
And he'd felt like he was back in his skinny body, the sickly boy once again getting a fever after being too long outside without a thick jacket.
He didn’t miss the time when he had been sick.
Yet it felt like those times were coming back.
Could the serum stop working? Is he turning into his skinny self again? They had told him it would be permanent..but on the other hand, nobody ever lived this long to actually tell how the serum worked. It’s not like the serum was really tested a lot.
He should probably go back to the compound. Get tested. Have them check him in the lab, give them his blood and…he really didn’t care, if he had to be honest with himself. He’d be fine with dying here. Doesn’t matter if as a super soldier or not. He just felt tired. Tired from the mission. Tired from heartbreak, tired from…being alive.
After patrolling the nearby areas Steve went back to his cabin, opening a beer and just sitting down in front of the fireplace, just thinking and staring into the fire.
The bitter taste of beer made him furrow his eyebrows a bit. It wasn’t good. He wouldn’t even feel it. No buzz from the alcohol. He’d probably need to drink a whole bottle of rum or tequila to feel at least a little buzz…but he wasn’t sure about it. Only some of Thors alcohol helped him to feel any of it.
Sighing Steve took another sip. This time bigger.
The bitterness was like a reflection of his sour mood.
When would those feelings go away? It started to get on his nerves. He had never mourned this much after Peggy, so why was he feeling like his heart was tearing apart more and more with every day. Every minute.
Would he ever feel whole again? Would it ever stop hurting this much?
He was so sick of living like this.
At this point he wasn’t sure if he wanted to live like this. His life felt rather…lifeless. He only spent his time with the mission and after just drinking tasteless beer.
It’s like the meaning of his life just disappeared.
And maybe it did.
With you.
Maybe you took part of his heart, unintentionally leaving him completely broken.
Sighing Steve took another sip, listening to the crisping fireplace. Maybe when he comes back to the compound he could-
A harsh knock made him jump a little bit as he immediately stood up and walked to the door. He hadn’t even noticed when he’d taken his gun from beneath the coffee table.
Nobody knew his location. Nobody would visit him here.
So who the hell was it? An enemy?
When he looked through the peekhole he quickly turned the key, nearly breaking it before opening the door with so much strength he could feel the handle being ripped in half.
His breath hitched. His heartbeat stopped for a second, before racing like crazy as he tried to keep himself calm.
It couldn’t be-that’s impossible.
How-
What-
“Mer?”

Comparing fairy tales with their inspirations from legendary sagas produces a weird effect, because you can see where the stories have been simplified and the behavior of the protagonists sanitized.
The Goose Girl whose position was stolen by her handmaiden and was reduced to speaking to her beheaded horse Falada was a club-footed princess who originally agreed to switch places with her maid because she was self-conscious about her feet and feared her prince was short and ugly. She was also mother of Charlemagne.
The Goose Girl at the Well who was exiled for saying she loved her father like meat loves salt was a British queen who led an army to rescue her father who had been driven insane by her abusive sisters.
Sleeping Beauty, who was cursed to sleep for a hundred years, was a Valkyrie who masterminded the death of her prince when he was brainwashed into marrying another woman, and then threw herself onto his pyre so she could die with him.
The youngest brother of the Wild Swans, whose arm remained a swan wing because his sister ran out of thread to make the tunic that would break his curse, became a knight in a swan boat that avenged a noble maiden's honor and had children with her that would give rise to the royal line of Bouillon.
Cinderella was a successful courtesan and a self-made woman, who had no fairy god mother, but did have a fling with fable-teller Aesop as well as an epic rivalry with her sister-in-law, who happened to be one of the greatest poets of their age. Alternatively, she was a queen of Egypt to died before seeing her family enslaved by the mad Persian king Cambyses.
The mystical husbands of East of the Sun and West of the Moon, The Iron Stove, and the Feather of Finist the Falcon were originally the god Eros, and the Beauty that had to find her husband after losing him was his wife Psyche.
Often the animal husband takes the form of a snake. In certain myths among the indigenous Taiwanese, the animal husband is a snake and the ancestor of their people. In Baltic and Slavic stories, the snake husband is never accepted by his wife's family, who kill him through deceit. Meanwhile, a 9th century Chinese story makes the husband into a Yaksha, and the lovers are eventually parted because the wife cannot stay in the realm of the Yaksha.
Related to the animal husband theme, the Beast was a tragic man from Tenerife with hypertrichosis, and Beauty was a noblewoman who was married to him almost as a joke. Though they lived a long and happy life together, four of their seven children were stolen away and sent to live in foreign courts because they shared their father's condition.
The Girl Without Hands was a Mercian queen who ruled her nation with iron fists, and was involved in more than one assassination.
Maid Maleen's original name was Brangaine, the maid of Tristan and Iseult. In most variants of the tale, it is the guilty bride who substitutes her maid in the bridal procession to hide her loss of virginity that is the actual protagonist. When the prince questions her about the children she has born, she is forced to reveal the tokens that her lover left with her, and the prince realizes that he himself is the lover in question, and apologizes and proceeds with the wedding.
The speechless Little Mermaid's beloved prince was a Swedish duke, brother to the king, named Magnus Vasa. He was afflicted with psychotic episodes throughout his life, and had assistants assigned to look after him. He never married but had a longtime affair with a commoner woman who cared for him. During one of his episodes, he jumped into a moat, claiming to have seen a woman there. This became the basis for a class of ballads called Herr Magnus and the Mermaid, which describes how Magnus lost his heart and then his mind to the mermaid after initially rejecting her. This then became stories of the tragic mermaid's rejection and revenge.

Good evening, one thing I´ve been thinking about recently is the tale of the Klabautermann. Do you know, if this kind of belief in a ships spirit/ghost (not really sure about the terminology here, sorry) only common with German sailors, or do other nationalities also have something similar? Thought this question might be fitting for the date :D
Big fan of your work on here btw. <3
Hello, Oh yes, I have something for you, a whole post about it. But just to get it out of the way, the little guy is known in the whole Baltic and North Sea region, not only in Germany. Apart from that, I wish you a lot of fun reading and thanks for the compliment.

The Evermore Grimoire: Magical Relics
A Water Portal is a magical portal that allows merpeople the ability to travel throughout the Seven Seas in an instant. The portals were created by the Baltic Mermaids after the war between mermaids and mermen so that they and the other surviving mermaid pods could stay connected to one another. The mermaids vowed to keep the portals a secret by carving a symbol of their tails on rocks hidden deep on the seabed throughout the Seven Seas. Only a mermaid or sea witch can open the portal by simply hovering their hand over the symbol which will then glow bright blue, as the oceans tides swirl together creating a whirlpool. Thus allowing them to pass through and travel to any part of the ocean that their heart's desire. Over the years the water portals and their sacred locks have become lost to the ever changing tides of the ocean. However that doesn't mean they're lost forever and will still unlock to any sea witch or mermaid looking for a fast way to travel between the Seven Seas.

Lord have mercy Skip, I never seen so many racist grown adults thrown childish tantrums in all my life. It's all over The Little Mermaid, Lord of the Rings and House of Dragon. They are fucking fantasy stories! The Little Mermaid live-action for that matter actually looks really good and I am not a fan of live-action remakes. The trailer literally made me cry. Halle Bailey looked and sounded incredible. It gives me chills every time I hear the trailer. But if they want to throw history into it and forget about "fantasy" and the fact that mermaids are mythological (for now), they made Prince Eric the crown-prince of Portugal instead of Denmark which totally makes more sense and history wise. The music is Caribbean and Atlantica is suppose to be near Denmark when the closest sea to that country is the Baltic and North Sea. Make that make fucking sense. I mean if they go "where North wind meets the sea. There's a river full of memory", they may run into Elsa lmfao xD But definitely not Altantica. Portugal looks right to the North Atlantic Ocean. The Little Mermaid was my favorite Disney princess when I was a kid. I feel like this live-action corrects things. Again, if they still say "but it still doesn't make sense for Ariel to be black especially during that time period". Oh honey, let's go. Let's fucking go. I am going to bring Queen Elizabeth II's ancestry into it. It's something they don't talk about a whole lot. So Queen Victoria's grandmother Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz was of African heritage that they tried to hide from the public during that time period during slavery times. They used powder on her face and wigs. And they made sure to completely erase her African features in portraits that was painted of her except a few. Charlotte was descended from a African branch of the Portuguese royal house. I am guessing there is going to be some inspiration taken from that for Ariel and Eric's story, however, if Disney really was going by the full history this would not be a fairytale. Ariel would of had to do the same things Charlotte did, even painful face peeling mixtures made of fruit to try to lighten her skin. But this is Disney and a FANTASY story.
Tumblr media
All I say is all Disney live action remakes have been decent, mediocre, or trash. I don’t care with race swapping. Because seeing how Disney has just watered down their own characters stripping what made them likeable in first place doesn’t matter. That being said that’s gives zero excuses for racists to complain because the originals are available.
I get why Disney is doing it but it feels fake for sake of getting target audience in seats because ideally no effort is put making the movies worth something.
I’m sure Halie might be only good part of the movie but I have no faith in it. And I personally won’t be watching black lead or not. It’ll take lot more for me get invested besides main actress being same race as me.
Or maybe I just want something orginal for once

Old Town Square and Syrenka
We are trying to find as many “Grand Place” as possible around Europe. After Brussels and Madrid. This is the one in Warsaw.
During the 15th century the centre of the square was home to Warsaw’s Town Hall. It was pulled down in 1817 and is not home to Warsaw’s best loved monument and the city defining symbol: Syrenka.
The are many legends about Syrenka. One is about Prince Kazimierz. While hunting in the marshlands that are now Warsaw, Prince Kaz lost his bearings and faced a night in the open. Miraculously, a mermaid emerged and guided the prince to safety by firing burning arrows into the sky. Warsaw was founded out of gratitude, and the mermaid adopted as its emblem.
Another legend is that a pair of twin sister swam across the Baltic Sea, arriving in Gdańsk. Here the sisters split, one swimming to Copenhagen and the other down the Wisła, finally wriggling out of the bit of water bordering the Old Town. Local fishermen soon noticed someone tampering with their nets, freeing the fish in the process, and teamed up to catch this pesky vandal once and for all. They soon changed their minds once they saw her, and her siren like singing voice soon made her a firm favourite among the lads. All except for one, a greedy merchant who decided to trap her and take her on tour, Elephant Man-style, round the sideshows of Poland. His plan was soon foiled though, after the son of a fisherman heard her haunting voice wailing from a shed. Alerted to her kidnap the fisherman hatched a daring plan to free her, and in thanks to the townspeople who rescued her the Syrenka swore to make it her life's mission to protect Warsaw. It’s this defensive stance of hers which explains why you’ll see her armed to the teeth with a sword and shield.
