It's literally incredible how all the things I liked best about the initial version of idiotim got edited out of the published version.
I am just so Obviously not part of the Marketable Demographic.

These words are dedicated to those who died
These words are dedicated to those who died because they had no love and felt alone in the world because they were afraid to be alone and tried to stick it out because they could not ask because they were shunned because they were sick and their bodies could not resist the disease because they played it safe because they had no connections because they had no faith because they felt they did not belong and wanted to die
These words are dedicated to those who died because they were loners and liked it because they acquired friends and drew others to them because they took risks because they were stubborn and refused to give up because they asked for too much
These words are dedicated to those who died because a card was lost and a number was skipped because a bed was denied because a place was filled and no other place was left
These words are dedicated to those who died because someone did not follow through because someone was overworked and forgot because someone left everything to God because someone was late because someone did not arrive at all because someone told them to wait and they just couldn't any longer
These words are dedicated to those who died because death is a punishment because death is a reward because death is the final rest because death is eternal rage
These words are dedicated to those who died
These words are dedicated to those who survived
These words are dedicated to those who survived because their second grade teacher gave them books because they did not draw attention to themselves and got lost in the shuffle because they knew someone who knew someone else who could help them and bumped into them on a corner on a Thursday afternoon because they played it safe because they were lucky
These words are dedicated to those who survived because they knew how to cut corners because they drew attention to themselves and always got picked because they took risks because they had no principles and were hard
These words are dedicated to those who survived because they refused to give up and defied statistics because they had faith and trusted in God because they expected the worst and were always prepared because they were angry because they could ask because they mooched off others and saved their strength because they endured humiliation because they turned the other cheek because they looked the other way
These words are dedicated to those who survived because life is a wilderness and they were savage because life is an awakening and they were alert because life is a flowering and they blossomed because life is a struggle and they struggled because life is a gift and they were free to accept it
These words are dedicated to those who survived

the sun set long ago.  we light the candles anyway.  I say Kiddush, let the words wrap around our tiny dining room, the same words that have wrapped around a million dining rooms and dorm rooms and sanctuaries and hovels  for centuries.
I ask my partner (goyische, bashert, beloved) "what was the best part of your week" as we sit down to Shabbos dinner of takeout.  "choir rehearsal at synagogue," they reply, and my heart swells.
I grab my phone to wish a slew of friends  "good Shabbos! may you get the rest you need!" in the morning, I will wrap myself in a tallis of silk I chose  not one I was given and daven to the music of an acoustic guitar.
some will say that I have not kept Shabbat.  but I have remembered.  and I say
"this, too, is Torah."

Beautiful Spirk fics with less than 400 kudos - part 1
part 2 here
It’s fic rec time! These are some of my favorite spirk fics, go give some love to these works and their creators!
I Wish I could Show you, by zjofierose (AOS)
The pinnacle of h/c, and it’s extremely well written. Spock is traumatised and needs Jim, so it's finally time to be honest with their feelings for both of them. Featuring one of my absolute favourite things: Jim Kirk falling to his knees because he's in looooooove.
Palm to palm is holy palmers kiss, by Ahria (AOS)
Oh, this Jim. I love it when Jim is convinced he's not loved back and is a pining mess, but he's also delightfully Jim, so pure, honest, straightforward and brave. This fic is a perfect p0rn whit feelings + hand kink, one cannot want more than this.
This Empty Place, by CateAdams (TOS)
God, I love this author. This fic has a standard, comforting setting: Spock and Jim get stuck together during a mission gone wrong, and you can imagine what happens next. I love it when they talk quietly and find a way to come to terms with their feelings. No more bullshit, just love. Bonus, this fic is written in a wonderfully poetic way.
Meet Me at the Barricade, by lalazee (AOS)
I am obsessed with this fic. Seriously, I don't understand why it's not linked everywhere. It's a detailed AU where Jim lives among the Orions, and it explores the warrior side of the t'hy'la bond, with a vaguely mirror-like spirk. Warning for gore and violence, but if you're not sensitive to that sort of thing, read on, you won't regret it.
Bashert, by Herself_nyc (TOS + AOS)
I will never stop loving fics where aos spirk meets tos spirk. There is also something in this fic that I didn't think I wanted, namely an impatient Prime Kirk who not only doesn't take any crap, but is also very distrustful of aos kirk.
The Sweetness of the Poisoned Fruit, by tuvokholdmyhandchallenge (MIRROR)
I can't stress enough to read the tags for this one, but: mirror spirk, non(dub?)-con, alien biology. That's exactly what it seems, and if you like this shit, go for it.
no place for cowards (or: jim kirk's heart is a tender place), by alienbabe (molotovgirl) (AOS)
This one deserves something like 3k kudos. A perfect character study of Jim, beautifully written, it will make your heart ache.
An Endless Stream of Tomorrows, by remylebae (TOS)
Aaaah, so cute! After The One With the Whales, Jim asks Spock to marry him. I loved their banter, the dialogues are perfect, and this sassy, calm Spock drives me crazy.
Two Very Different Men, by Wingittofreedom (MIRROR)
I am so weak for this kind of mirror fic. P0rn with a lot of feelings, plus the mortifying ordeal of being known. Bonus for beautiful art.
due consideration, by tciddaemina (TOS)
A fic in which Spock realises he is in love and does the only logical thing: he carefully reasons about it. Extremely in character for both Spock and Jim, and they talk about it like two adults, coming to terms with each other and putting their relationship into perspective. And then, of course, lots of feelings + hand kink!!!

i'm so deep in my lottielee feelings since the start of season two. i loved them before but it's just...there's something about SEEING lottie NOW as an adult in the present timeline. so i guess my REAL favorite ship trope is middle aged woman forever bound to her childhood love?? but like, not just a childhood love. her everything. her fated. her bashert. the girl who, even if she HAD lived, would've grown into a woman who haunted her, had she ever strayed from her. but she didn't live. she's a ghost. she's a memory. she's there and she's not. she's everything and nothing, obliterated by fire (then water or teeth until nothing was left). so now she's the lost love. the forever love. the can't get her out of your mind love and WHY would you even TRY to get her out of your mind because she is your solace and salvation and soul. she's dead. you killed her. or you didn't save her. it's all the same, what do semantics matter when she's gone. and none of it is even near the realm of normal (but even if it HAD been, this love would've undone you so completely, because it was always a spiritual love, a binding love, a scary love, a supernatural love). but even more so now, because it's not in the realm of normal. it's in the realm of spirit and trauma and gods and monsters and angels and warped reality and twisted fates. so you try to do things. you fuck people and you start cults and you threaten men and you blackmail and you live outlandishly, because really, you've been dead ever since she died. except she's not fully dead. and you're so much painfully closer to life than death, even if you aren't truly alive. so this body you have has to keep going. you've got one hand in the afterlife and she's got one hand in the mortal world that you're stuck in, and every once in a while your fingers brush and those moments are everything to you. the best and the worst. maybe you can join her one day, if you're lucky. but your faith and your belief have always been unsteady, ebbing and flowing and revolving around her (or her memory) like a compass whose north changes on her whim (or what you imagine her whim to be). so you can't be sure. if one thing is certain, though, it's that she deserves heaven and most days you think you deserve hell. hell is all you've known on earth, why would you know different in death? so maybe it's nothing or maybe it's fire, but you can't let yourself believe for one SECOND that she is burning, because she's burned enough as it is. so yeah. i guess that's the sort of tragic love story i'm firmly seated for.

in other words, what the FUCK is wrong with me that THIS is my romantic trope of all time, THE love, THE pairing, THE blueprint that drives me insane?? it's so bleak over here, send help??

Yiddish Falsettos Headcanons
Act 1
Marvin and Trina argue in Yiddish when they don't want Whizzer and Jason to hear what they're saying
The word "פֿייגעלע (feygeleh)" is used a LOT
Whizzer isn't fluent or anything, but he actually understands most of it. He just doesn't let on because Marvin never asked
Mendel uses Yiddish words in like every other sentence, but can't hold or understand a conversation
Trina stops Marvin from arguing in Yiddish once Mendel starts being around all the time because "it's rude" and "it's not healthy" (really it's so that she and Mendel can team up on him)
Act 2
The "isn't he an asshole" bit in Year of the Child is absolutely in Yiddish. They love to shit talk Mendel in Yiddish
That's also what they're doing in everyone hates his parents
Marvin and Dr. Charlotte use hushed Yiddish to discuss Cordelia's... more experimental dishes
Dr. Charlotte calls Jason "באָבעלע (bubbeleh)" and he fake gags at it
Marvin and Whizzer (and sometimes Dr. Charlotte) strategically use Yiddish when they have to talk about something gay in public
Cordelia mispronounces Yiddish words in such funny ways that sometimes the whole family just starts saying them like that as a running bit
Whizzer teasingly calls Marvin "באַשערט (bashert)" and Marvin definitely does NOT tear up
Whenever anyone asks Jason where he learned Yiddish, he always says it was from Whizzer. Marvin and Trina spoke it better, but Whizzer was the one who cared enough to slow down and explain it to him.

Some thoughts on Hannah's comments.
We all know that from the moment Ted & Rebecca met, it was bashert. They were, in Hannah's own words 'accidental soulmates that neither of them knew they needed.'
Soulmates can be romantic or platonic, or can exist in such a way that the lines blur and never come to fruition either way. For Hannah to say 'I feel like I never saw the kind of slightly more generic, pedestrian side of like, 'Oh, they're just going to end up together.' ((white flash dissolve))', it felt like more of a comment in relation to the secret third kind of soulmate - the blurred lines.
Yes, this show is a rom-com in a football setting. It's about life, love and football. The thing is, not every important connection in our lives boils down to romance. Ted & Rebecca's relationship isn't generic. But they are two people so deeply intertwined in the tapestry of each other's lives that they don't make sense without each other.
Another thing we're all very aware of by now is the show's love of subverting tropes and expectations. If we want the 'white flash dissolve' rom-com pairing, you could argue we get that with Roy & Keeley. We also got a 'white flash dissolve' break-up. Their challenges fit the rom-com tropes more snugly than Ted & Rebecca because they were explicitly bashert. Their relationship challenges were mirrored by Carrie Bradshaw & Aidan Shaw. Classic rom-com stuff.
Ted & Rebecca and their blurred lines soulmatism is more akin to that of Harry Burns and Sally Albright. Nora Ephron is, after all, one of the biggest influences on the show's writers. Of course, Harry & Sally get together in the end. But it took 12 years and 3 months. The slowest burn. Just like Ted & Rebecca. Whatever their soul connection is, it's one of the slowest burns in the history of television. And the reality of it is we may never know which side of the coin it may fall on. Because if we get a definitive answer, doesn't it ruin the mystery? The depth and the nuance of their characters and their relationship? Sometimes not knowing is better than knowing.
That being said, we've been promised a third and final truth bomb, and I'd really love to see them kiss and ride off into the sunset.
