On the topic of Chaos Theory- I’ve been curious about these dinosaurs that we see in the trailer. They look to be mainly carnivores, and we only see one herbivore. Obviously, the Atrociraptors will be a big part of the show because it seems like they cause problems for all of the campers (sneaking into Sammy’s house, chasing after the campers, getting punched by Kenji!) These seem like they’ll be the main dinos we will be faced with. They are different from Blue, Delta, Echo, and Charlie and Ben mentions how the antagonist is using these Raptors to hunt them. So maybe they were raised in captivity to obey our villian.
The Allosaurus seems to be like another big part of the story as well with it chasing after Darius to create a parallel scene to Claire from Jurassic World.
But, I have one important thing to say- In the poster, focusing on the dinosaur, it almost looks more like the Indominus than the traditional Allosaurus. With the way it is roaring and especially looking at its head shape, and maybe the arms as well, it looks like a lot like the Indominus Rex in the poster- Possibly they used that as a base? Because it doesn’t resemble the hybrid as much in the physical trailer. Unless the villain somehow got Indominus Rex DNA and made a modified version of the Allosaurus, I don’t see why they wouldn’t just create a new base for this different dinosaur.
There’s also this very QUICK scene in the trailer where a dinosaur comes running out of the clearing and Allosaurus’ are usually fast reaching speeds up to 34 mph while the Indominus only had 30 mph. But it *doesn’t* look like an Allosaurus- It’s white, fast and spiked- Sound familiar?
Now I’m not saying it is a hybrid- Just if I didn’t know my dinosaurs as I do so much. I wouldn’t think it was supposed to be an Allosaur. We know that Wu gets the Indominus sample and uses it for the Indoraptor but I don’t think he’d trade that information over to the villain.
But as I, Darius Bowman, I do not want to deal with more hybrids. I don’t think any of my second family does either. And I’d love to see the Allosaurus be a main dinosaur without any modifications. We had other strong dinosaurs like the Carnotaurus, Ceratosaurus, without them having to be hybrids. If you been following with the JW franchise- A juvenile Allosaurus has been seen in Fallen Kingdom and it was seen again in the short film “Battle at Big Rock” so it is no stranger to Jurassic World.
We have other supporting dinosaurs too like:
- Becklespinax (Trailer)
- Majunasaurus (Wiki)
- Nasutoceratops (Wiki)
- Pachyrhinosaurus (Trailer)
- Stygimoloch (Wiki)
- Suchomimus (Wiki)
Lots of variety! The wiki is hard to trust sometimes but if it is accurate we should expect more variations of dinosaurs!
AND IS THAT BIG OR LITTLE EATIE???
I’M GUESSING BASED ON THE SCAR PLACEMENT IT IS LITTLE EATIE BECAUSE BIG EATIE HAS MORE SCARRING BUT I WILL BE UPSET IF THEY DON’T ANIMATE ALL THE SCARS IF IT’S SUPPOSED TO BE BIG EATIE. SHE FOUGHT A LOT.
But this raises another question- Why is she here? We know Bumpy is back too because we see her standing behind Sammy, Ben and Darius- We might talk about this some more but for now it raises a few questions- If Big/Little Eatie is here does that mean that Mantah Corp island was invaded and something happened to Mae? Dr. Turner would 100% put her life on the line for those dinosaurs, and if someone came and took them all, she wouldn’t let it happen willingly. Does this mean they have Pierce and we will see him?
Kentrosaurus’ are so fascinating….But I hope he is okay! Do they have the Spinosaurus, or that lone Baronyx?
So many dinosaurs, so many theories! Chaos Theory is going to kill us!
(Figuratively and literally.)
If you couldn’t tell, this post was made by Darius!!

Right, I thought I'd just clear up a tiny thing about Our Hearts because I don't really know how to fit it in the fic without a whole bunch load of exposition:
The battle at the end of the movie? the one at Three Brother's Rocks? Yeah that didn't happen. At least, not to the same extent. I've kept it vague to not have to go into much detail (because writing action scenes isn't really my strong suit) but the long of the short of it is this. Because Spider got away from the Recoms early, he did not make a 'bond' with Quaritch. Because he found Norm and Max and flew with them to bring supplies, he didn't spend months with the Recoms. At best, he spent a couple of days with them.
This means that the big thing of him heaving out Quaritch's dead ass (which btw makes sense if you think about how Spider was raised) didn't happen. Neither did the large scene of Kiri and Spider being held as lynchpins.
How it went is, Quaritch snatched Neteyam on the sinking deck of the hunting ship, held him under his knife, and when Jake made a move to save his boy, Quaritch killed him. In cold blood, with a cruel smile on his face. Neytiri would then go into a grief stricken rage (like in the film) but this time Quaritch's body would be scooped up by Wainfleet's ikran and carried off.
Spider, on the other hand, is halfway across the village, helping with the medical supplies (whilst working through the brain trauma, damaged ankle etc), and doesn't know Neteyam is dead until Neytiri's scream carries across the ocean.
And the big reason why Neytiri said Spider caused Neteyam's death? Because she thinks that if he had been there, on the deck of the ship, she could have used him as a bargaining chip to get her own boy back. Regardless of whether Spider would even be treated well or not.

What's your opinion on Jurassic Park? I'm at a dinosaur Park and is... disappointing. I liked th lego series though, never saw the movies, but planning to.
I like Jurassic Park. I agree with the many that it's the best of the Jurassic franchise. A lot of the characters are likable, you care enough that you want to see them survive, and it's a really good suspenseful horror.
It's actually something I wish Jurassic as a franchise stuck with, I think it better performed when it was a suspenseful, surviving horror story, cause by set up, it should be. These are revived ancient creatures that we have limited understanding of, and because there are modifications that don't have them matching up with the true dinosaurs, there's even less understood and more unpredictability cause what we know now may not even fit with these chimeras. And Jurassic Park was a forewarning to humanity being proud and zealous enough to play God and that's part of the appeal of horror, some of it is a forewarning to what could come or choices, like, Alien is a forewarning to letting in disease without real caution for it. There's also some forewarning the dangers of climate change.
Either way, nowadays Jurassic franchise is more suspenseful action. Which, some of that action is good, like, World's climatic fight was amazing to watch. But many of it doesn't have that same hit that JP has, and I think a big part of that is a loss of the horror aspect. Like, much of World, you don't fear for people's safety, and some of the choices made are... kinda dumb. Like Dominion, you got dinosaurs loose on the world, no fences, they can be amongst the people, walking into cities, disrupt livelihoods, sets up dino apocalypse is happening! But no, the locust are the BIGGEST threat and it's... what? I was so ready to see civilization uprooted, what would be done, the chaos of it all and it's like no, let's focus on the big bugs. The dinos are good, they're not a threat or the major focus.
I was so mad.
I think the only ones that got close to old JP level of quality was Camp Cretaceous s1 and s3, and the short film, Battle at Big Rock; all three were suspenseful and nerve wracking. Especially BaBR, that was scary to watch the first time, and it made me so pumped of what Dominion might've been bringing in.
Anyway! Jurassic Park, amazing. It still holds up great, I also think it was better than the book, more with the characters being more likable and more rooting for their survival. The book I was rooting for the dinosaurs more cause I didn't like most of the characters or root for their survival. Though I'll give the book was more terrifying and had some really gory gruesome deaths, some of which I'm ok with the movie not including.
And I wish the rest of the franchise kept in that horror aspect of old JP; I do think the only ones that came close where those 2 specific seasons of Camp Cretaceous and Battle at Big Rock.

So, I've waded through the "rings of power" tag here, and heard every bit of negative feedback. The Eminem looking fella everyone assumed was Annatar, beardless dwarf women, short hair elves, old Celebrimbor, "politically ambitious" Elrond, and all the costume critiques made by those spoiled by WETA workshop. And of course, the fact half the show is made from just the LotR appendices, the other from scratch. I don't suppose you have any positive notes from the trailer?
MY FRIENDS? That trailer was absolutely great I've no idea what you're all on about, it revealed nothing negative in my view about the show that we didn't already know (except the Balrog at the end but I had suspected that for a while and I'll talk about it later.)
Okay first off for the elf fans out there, pretty sure the first scene is literally the aftermath of the battle of sudden flame like I know piles are big Nirnaeth arnoidiad imagery but that wasnt a pile of bodies it was a pile of helmets (bodies burned to ash??) and all around it the whole landscape is scorched to hell and that shot was incredibly ominous! For what I can only imagine is a brief flashback shot, that was a really striking representation of that obscure first age battle! Is that not cool to you elf fans? It seems like they're gonna give Galadriel a dead brother compilation! I thought it was cool and I couldn't care less about these folks.
But more importantly PALANTIR? 👀👀 oh acknowledgement of Palantiri in Numenor, Tar-Miriel using it BEING it's user, the special tower specifically created and designed with precise geometry to enhance the Palantir's sight!!!! Do I think Galadriel and Miriel were ever here in this tower together? No! But it's a cool scene to think about, it's a cool concept to ponder even for noted Galadriel-hater me! Where are all the AU fanfic lovers out there, come ship these two!! And once again I have to keep saying this; all the imagery of Numenor has been absolutely impeccable, I literally couldnt have asked for better numenorean design work, did yall know they went and built a city to film this all in? I had to stim about it.
AND NIMLOTH AHHHH That's my fucking tree mum there she IS she looks so beautiful I genuinely cried when I saw her and i was RIGHT too I thought those petals in the teaser trailer were from her! The way the arches around her are so old they are degrading because the anti-elf sentiment has meant people do not care for the tree and it's setting as they used too?? I'm excited to watch Numenorean politics! I think Miriel and Pharazon are attending Tar-Palantir's funeral here too.
Okay now listen, the eminem thing was funny initially but this here priestess doesn't look THAT much like him first off she just has buzzed white hair. And secondly Sauron cult!! I love Sauron cult and seeing the religious side to his influence and the way they're wearing WHITE I love that so much yes evil people wearing white. Am I psyched about stereotypical gender non-conforming woman being the Evil Priestess here? No not really, but her eyes look scary and we haven't seen the Sauron cult on screen before so!! I'm excited about it, it's a unique plot point to include! The ominous rune and the 'have you heard of Sauron' and spooky evil swords!! It's very Silmarillion is what I'm saying!
Not specific to this trailer but the looks at Khazad-Dum so far have been absolutely spectacular, I might not be a fan of this much exposed rock without beauty to that rock but just the sheer scale of it and the blue light to it and the way it's so lively and the dwarven battle masks that cover their beards too!! And Durin's costume!!! I'm so unbelievably excited for the dwarf stuff, Disa's character especially is so exciting, she's also a mother as well as being Durin's wife apparently like!! Thats an aspect of dwarvenness we've never seen on screen before and I want to see what Sophie Nomvete does with it!
Okay and THE HORROR MONSTERIFICATION OF ORCS BABES! Make orcs fucking terrifying yes oh my god, they're strong they're silent they strike in the dark they terrorised Middle Earth for seven thousand years and they ARE a threat, even one of them! Love that angle to view them in, really exciting as a concept!
ALSO! Just as more of an aside but I love all the mature romantic relationships we're getting in this show. As far as I can tell the only romance plot we're possibly going to see is between Kemen and Earien, Arondir and Bronwyn have been together for a while, Disa and Durin are married! Also Bronwyn already has a son? Is that with Arondir? I want her to be divorced with an elf husband so badly but her old husband is probably dead OR Theo is half elf which would also be cool, NO MATTER WHAT I'm into all of them.
BIG FISH!!
And just a bunch of little things and design choices in all the scenes, the tambre of the voices, the acting itself I'm!! Excited!! We haven't DONE this in so long, in fact the tolkien fandom has never done this, we've never had a piece of tolkien media where we dIDN'T know what was going to happen in it and more importantly to ME it's been far too long that PJ's been allowed a monopoly on tolkien designs, lets see what this has to offer! Come on, most of you were kids like me when the lotr films came out and when I was a kid I loved them and had a fantastic time watching them, be twelve again!! This is new and unique! Lets all have fun together about it! :D
Addendum: Yes, I am annoyed that (as seems likely) dwarves cannot be allowed narratives that dont revolve around their homes being traumatically taken from them through some narrative moralisation of gold and mining that has very antisemetic undertones. I would have liked dwarf politics not just Balrog.

What Jurassic World: Dominion should have been about
(Because I’ve watched not only Dominion but also a Jurassic movies marathon last weekend on TV. So I got dinosaurs on the brain lol. And while I enjoyed Dominion in theaters, the more I think about it, the less the story makes sense, and didn’t deliver on the DINOSAURS IN OUR WORLD plotline we deserved).
Here we go!
Tumblr media
Prologue. 65 million years ago, dinosaurs live their best lives, wild and free. We witness a fight between the T. Rex and Giganotosaurus. Giga wins and kills the T. Rex. 65 million years later, after the events of Fallen Kingdom, the T. Rex attacks a drive-in theatre, causing panic and chaos.
(AKA we keep the Prologue that Universal released on Youtube a few months ago. Because it’s awesome. Seriously, go check it out if you can!)
We see the NowThis segment on TV, with a little more scenes that weren’t already in the Dino Tracker added. Just to keep things fresh.
Ellie Sattler, Alan Grant and Ian Malcolm are all called as dinosaur experts to investigate dinosaur attacks in this new Jurassic World. We see the dinosaurs attack random people (like in the short film Battle at Big Rock that is also on Youtube and that is also awesome). Ellie, Alan and Ian go to investigate.
Meanwhile, Owen Grady, Claire Dearing and Maisie Lockwood are living off the grid in the house Owen built himself during and after the events of Fallen Kingdom. He’s been keeping track of his velociraptor Blue’s whereabouts, especially since she had a baby and he feels responsible for their safety.
When Blue’s baby gets kidnapped by poachers, it’s up to Owen, Claire and Maisie, as a family, to save Beta.
Ellie, Alan and Ian eventually discover that Lewis Dodgson, the man who hired them to investigate the dinosaur attacks, the owner of the company BioSyn, is cooking up a new dino in their lab: the Giga Indotosaur. The genetically-engineered dinosaur can track down dinos in the wild. BioSyn can then swoop in, capture the dinosaurs Giga Indotosaur hunts, and “protect our fragile ecosystems from these new apex predators” as Dodgson puts it.
(Or to sell the dinosaurs. That works too.)
The kicker? Our characters never go to the Biosyn lab. The audience sees some scenes there, including the return of InGen’s Dr. Henry Wu, who is still making genetically-engineered dinosaurs, but the crew never goes to another lab in another park. Been there, done that.
Owen, Claire and Maisie, meanwhile, bust out the poaching / dinosaurfighting ring, and try to save Beta. They fail. The road also leads back to BioSyn, as they learn by sneaking in the poaching ring, since BioSyn needs Blue’s DNA to make Giga Indotosaur more compliant. But again, Owen, Claire and Maisie don’t go to BioSyn. Then they are disturbed by another dino attack. They escape and we see the big action scene in Malta. Which was the best part of Dominion.
Of course, it’s not common knowledge that Blue’s (and by extension, Beta’s) DNA was mixed up with T. Rex DNA during the events of Fallen Kingdom. So when Lewis Dodgson adds her DNA to Giga Indotosaur (and goes behind Dr. Wu’s back, because he refuses to work with Beta), it, ahem, fucks shit up.
The Giga Indotosaur escapes BioSyn and starts to wreak havoc on the dinosaurs in the wild. Many who had been captured by BioSyn, including Beta, are also released, and it’s pure chaos on the streets of New York City (or pick whatever big city that Hollywood loves). It’s up to Ellie, Alan, Ian, Owen, Claire and Maisie to deal with the Giga Indotosaur and save the day.
Of course, Giga Indotosaur is killed, thanks to Beta and the T. Rex who gets her revenge, and everything eventually goes back to this strange, new normal. By the end, Ellie, Alan and Ian are interviewed by the United States Congress about the events with BioSyn and the future of dinosaurs in our world and Owen, Claire and Maisie bring Beta back to her mother.
Sprinkle in old characters, like John Hammond’s grandchildren, Tim and Lex, Ian’s daughter Kelly, Claire’s old friends Zia and Franklin, and Owen’s old friend Barry, and add new characters like Kayla Watts and Ramsey Cole. And Dr. Wu probably gets his comeuppance. Probably.
And that’s it. You got a movie.

Florence + the Machine - How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful: Album Review
Because I went the whole of Florence's birth month without dropping my irrelevant and unwarranted opinions on her ovure, I'm doing it now. Yay!
As usual, I'm reviewing the deluxe version of the album, along with all separate tracks that were released on other versions, so expect to see the Target-exclusive tracks. Demos however are omitted.
I originally also wanted to make the connections to Dante's Purgatory and the companion film for this album, The Odyssey, but realised halfway that I'd actually mistaken Purgatory for Inferno and had to scrap that because I WILL review music but not a poem I have never read. So instead, I shall only be reviewing this album for its music.
How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful: try saying that 5 times fast
Tumblr media
#1: Ship To Wreck
This song has one of the most Florence-esque yet absolutely modern hot-mess origin stories ever: the gist is that Florence held a party, got drunk at the bar where they'd moved the party, covered Daft Punk’s Get Lucky in supreme party girl fashion, went home and then broke everything while water covered her floors. It’s more detailed in her interview with Ellen here.
The second this song started, I got the feeling of being plunged underwater. This is Hurricane Drunk’s older sister after a ferocious bender. It’s so infectious, swirling with self-destruction and stormy guitars and absolute RAGE. The glockenspiel is like air bubbles from where we gasp as we sink. As an opening song, it’s perfect in tone, placement, and as an introduction to the album: we can’t leave the water yet. We can’t stop a shipwreck while it’s happening. 9/10.
#2: What Kind Of Man
I LOVE when Florence goes extra rock. Here is a complete flash-bang where we’re pulled out from the water and immediately tossed into the inferno. The brass orchestration and Florence’s howling, angry vocals take the cake, and those lyrics are the cherries: about a man whose kiss sparks two decades of devotion but just can’t seem to make up his mind (OH.) about his and Florence’s relationship. There is no tender longing present; this is about all the old hurt that comes hurtling to the surface from the partners we’ve stayed just a tad too long with and are, somehow, still staying with. And I fuckin hear you, Florence. 10/10.
#3: How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful
Does Florence refer to the sky or her old love, the ocean? I like to think it’s both: this song depicts that rowdy, journeying feeling of going through a sudden/unexpected transitory period so well. The strings that blaze as she sings the song’s title just rip one through my heart, and the brass instruments return from the previous track, but are utilised for a more subtle, gentler sound. It’s nothing short of grand — but for me, the softer tone of this rather breaks the rock momentum Florence has been building for the last two tracks. 6/10.
#4: Queen Of Peace
Crashing back into fantasy and metaphor after some hard reality bites, we’re pulled back a little into the grandeur of Ceremonials with the grand production and full orchestra to make a modern medieval ballad, but it’s unmistakably a new era of Florence with the way she carries her voice like how a lonely queen looks over a dead field after the battle has ceased. This song is about a triumph, but a deeply bittersweet one at that. And I truly love it for that, because its the truth: what is a triumph without a hard-fought struggle beforehand? 9.5/10.
#5: Various Storms & Saints
I genuinely like the lyrics, but this melody… I always forget about this song as whole. Oops. That much I can say. It stays relatively downtempo and subdued the whole time. Florence’s vocals are the best part and she utilises the powers of her voice only when absolutely necessary, but this song just lacks the “big, almighty sound” that makes up all of the hits, so I’m sorry to say that this is more of a miss for me. 4.5/10.
#6: Delilah
I fucking can’t. This song destroyed me. That is to say: I love this.
Drawing from the bibical tale of Samson and Delilah, Florence crafts an agonising, intense, total curb-stomper about feeling betrayed and yet being on the verge of breaking free. And it slaps so hard. The percussion combined with Florence’s high-strung, burning vocals make the song such a catchy, swinging, forceful cry. The video for this on The Odyssey is also my favourite of them all, with that heart-rending opening monologue, references to Pre-Raphelite art, and how the visual language of the story is employed. 10/10.
#7: Long & Lost
The most sombre song on this album. It’s also definitely a breather after the freedom scream that Delilah demands. Though it’s fittingly about retreating into some self-doubt, I quite like how this actually feels like a meditation of sorts; a glimpse into Florence’s head and heart as she ponders if going back to where she was is worth it, and laments that maybe it really is already too late. I think it’s rather beautiful, with an even more softened melody to accompany Florence’s dreamily mournful vocals. 7/10.
#8: Caught
Calling this a “livelier” song feels like a bit of a misnomer. Florence’s voice feels lighter and more active in this, but it’s ultimately still a song on the understated side about feeling torn between two extremes: being able to finally move on and holding onto something that hurts. I love how Florence name-drops Persephone, notable for being torn between two very different landscapes, to illustrate her point. The production on this track is one of my favourites — the minimalism applied to this is a sonic treat, and the focus given to Florence’s delivery is top-notch. 8/10.
#9: Third Eye
My personal favourite. This is genuinely one of the most cathartic and life-affirming songs I’ve ever heard. It’s got all sorts of upbeat vibes, spirituality, and an amazing outro that’s practically a mantra. But what I think really makes this song so powerful is how it's styled like a religious hymn— but instead of looking towards God, Florence actually implores us to draw strength and change from within ourselves, to forgive ourselves and love ourselves. God is great, no doubt, but maybe God has been within ourselves all along. 10/10.
#10: St Jude
Not gonna lie, this is where the album starkly loses momentum for me. Again. Why is such a solemn track right after the glorious Third Eye???
Of all things, Florence seems to turn back and contemplate her failed relationship once again — but that’s about it for its cons. I think the lyrics for these are great and Florence’s voice does some truly beautiful things, but its odd placement just makes it tank from its full potential. 5/10.
#11: Mother
This took me completely by surprise. I felt annihilated by the end of this. Not only does the album regain its streak with this one track, this song is also truly lyrically stellar and Florence’s voice kicks back into full rock gear straight on. The shifting tides of the instrumentals just score her so perfectly, it feels like we’re being pulled back into the Ceremonial waters for just an utterly rug-pulled-from-under-feet moment. It’s the epitome of that HUGE sound I’ve craved so much— and fittingly, it’s rather a despairing song once you actually read the lyrics. But hey, getting out of such deep water isn’t as smooth a task as it may sound. 10/10.
#12: Hiding
That pre-chorus is so catchy. In fact, this whole song is a proper dance number. So is Delilah but this is more lighthearted, arguably just as powerful AND it manages to retain all the refrains of a poem. It’s a song about being in denial and yet also acknowledging you’re in denial. It's so lively and is probably the song most likely to be played at a club (hell yeah the return of the tambourine), until you hear Florence’s outro at the end. Fuck. 8.5/10.
#13: Make Up Your Mind
What a heart-thrummer. The soft harp makes an unexpected but very welcome return on this absolute neck-breaker of a song, with Florence painting herself as an executioner ready to cut off her relationship— or is she?
I love how this song incorporates the vulnerability of love and yet the utter ruthlessness that ultimately gets born when love morphs into resentment. When Florence demands that her lover lets her live or lets her love them it almost seems that even that’s lose-lose, with all the trimmings of a medieval scene with that unique, desperate and divine Florence-esqueness. Of course I fucking dig it. 9/10.
#14: Which Witch
Florence embraces the idea of martyrdom— specifically, being martyred by love. It’s such a tight, soaring, jumpy song about getting trialled for witchcraft/love, being miles away but having your love on your mind, getting tired of crawling all the way, and hurting from this so much that burning at the stake is seen as a reprieve. That’s a LOT. But Florence fuckin KILLS it.
I love this song and think it’s genuinely an amazing song on its own, but am really conflicted about its placement as the album closer — because here Florence ultimately decides to continue her relationship, the very thing that’s been dragging her back into the water throughout the album. I think my thoughts on this change from day to day. When I’m feeling particularly mournful I think it's a perfect closer: it's better to hold onto any form of love than to never love at all. But when I’m not… it’s a gut punch, like it or not. Moving on is an emotional task that we all eventually have to undertake but may not succeed at. However, the duality of this very idea, I think, is what really draws me to this song. It’s okay to not fully move on. But it’s equally just as okay to hold out hope that one day, just maybe, you might. 10/10.
EXCLUSIVE EDITION TRACKS
#15: As Far As I Could Get
This is the PERFECT combination of Florence’s two song styles: epically full of grand, godly metaphors and modern everyday settings out of a contemporary novel. Florence talks about escaping the bustle of Los Angeles and manages to mix reverent nature and a gospel voice with the spectacle of passing by a Disney castle and the Pirates of the Caribbean ride so fuckingly well. I’m incensed that this isn’t on the standard album— perhaps because I find myself relating so much to this right now, but also because it’s a legit banger about actually being determined to escape and move on, being right in the middle of this arduous process, and still feeling that you haven’t gotten far enough yet. 10/10.
#16: Pure Feeling
…I feel so guilty about this. Florence conveys this great, wholesome message of how she loves the world and of how she learnt to during her year off with some lyrics that really lay bare this humbling, warm feeling. But I must admit that the effect’s rather lost on me when paired with the way the melody sounds. Florence also sounds like she’s on the verge of gasping — and not in the good way. 4/10.
#17: Conductor
The lyrics for this are so beautifully poetic. Florence calls back to the standard album’s laments about a lover’s crippling indecision and how she herself turns to songwriting to channel her emotions — much like how conductors conduct both music and electricity. We love a double meaning!
I love the strength of her voice here and the simpler no-frills arrangements of piano and strings that accompany her. I really wish that this could’ve made it onto the standard album too, but in a way I can also see why it didn’t. (Though I don’t really stand for that, it's thematically perfect and has a great Florence vocal, C’MON TARGET WTF) 7.5/10.
#18: Only Love Can Break Your Heart
A Neil Young cover. I’m a fan of the original song as well, and really feel that she did this one so much justice. It exudes a grace and a longing that just extrudes so much more prominently than the original. Florence’s vocals are so clear and carry the tune so delightfully that it loses none of its original melancholy and instead garners so much pure, pure beauty. 7/10.
Overview: What an album. It feels like a lightning strike, and that's already in the simplest of terms. I feel this album as a whole is about learning to let go and change for the better, even if we can’t fully bring ourselves to yet. But my favourite description of this album comes from Florence herself:
“Ceremonials was so fixated on death and water, and the idea of escape or transcendence through death, but the new album became about trying to learn how to live, and how to love in the world rather than trying to escape from it. Which is frightening because I'm not hiding behind anything but it felt like something I had to do."
Which brings us to F+TM's new logo for this era:
Tumblr media
A search on Reddit proved that these two triangles are the alchemical symbols for air and water respectively — so this album is literally about the air above water. About rising above the surface. About being free of all that drags you down.
Ceremonials may be the masterful album that says your grief and pain are valid and it’s okay to feel the way you feel, but How Big How Blue How Beautiful is the imperative follow-up that says: I want to heal. I will heal. 9.5/10.

The Mosley Review: Worst Films of 2022
Tumblr media
Well ladies and gentlemen, 2022 has come to an end. Luckily, this year of cinema hasn't had too many pitfalls in quality that infuriated me. Actually, I take that back. There was a few films that truly disappointed me, pissed me off and 1 film that I absolutely despised. That's right people, its time for my pick for the worst films of 2022. Now you may not agree with me on some of them and that's okay. All film is subjective and you can have your opinions, but these are mine. If you want a more detailed review of each film listed, then simply click the title of each film. So, lets get this over.
Tumblr media
Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness: I wouldn't say this was the worst of the year, but more of a disappointment.  I happened to like that this was basically an Evil Dead version of the titular character, but I thought it was so inconsistent and lackluster in so many ways. If your gonna have a horror vibe then go all the way and get creepy with it. This film also introduced a new MCU character in the absolute worst way. America Chavez was absolutely useless for the majority of the film even though she has a decent backstory. The last fight in the film was just so bad and the story could've been over in 5 minutes with some simple logic. I wish this had tied into the animated series "What if?" in some sort of way. At least that Doctor Strange arc was more compelling than this.
Tumblr media
Black Adam: I love DC. It is my comic book home over Marvel anyday and their heroes are just as important as their villains and anti heroes. When "Shazam!" was a success, it was only a matter of time before we were gonna get his darker counter part and I was excited until I saw the trailer. I knew something was off and I was right. I don't mind when a character's origin is altered a bit to fit with the times, but this was the most bland version ever. Dwayne Johnson can deliver a decent performance when he is challenged and he wasn't challenged at all in this film. This was one of his worst performances as he just delivers emotionless dialogue and floats around for the majority of the film with no sense of character development. The Justice Society of America was just slapped in for no reason and most of the team aside from Hawkman and Dr. Fate weren’t worthy of their names. Hey Black Adam, 2012 called. They want their villain plot and their shitty CGI back. It’s truly sad when the most memorable thing anyone will ever talk about is the post credit scene as being the best part of the film. You deserved better Henry Cavill.
Tumblr media
Jurassic World: Dominion: Oh how this franchise has fallen so hard. It had a good, nostalgic and fun beginning that could've led to an amazing finale. What I was hoping to see is an actual world that's over run with dinosaurs. There was a short film released before the film called "Battle at Big Rock" and in that short you got a taste of what the film should’ve been. It had dinosaurs showing up in a camp site and wreaking havoc. It was tense and somewhat violent and everything that Dr. Ian Malcolm described it would be. What we got with this entry was a film about genetically enhanced locusts destroying crops. What the hell does that have to do with the dinosaurs you say? Nothing. How can you call yourself a Jurassic film when the dinosaurs aren't even the star of the film? Don't even get me started on legacy characters popping back up on screen just to have nothing to do but scream and get thrown around. What a disgrace to the franchise name.
Tumblr media
Morbius: Do I need to really say anything about this dumpster fire of a movie? Visually the film was okay looking and I liked the ferocity of the character, but man was the rest of the film just horrible. This really didn't do anything to capture even the essence of the famous comic anti hero. This was just another day in the life of Jared Leto to be honest. The plot of the film was so bland, obvious and not even compelling enough to have a sense of fun. The only person I think was having fun as he just went for it in every scene, was Matt Smith. Listen Sony, I know you hold or have bought up all the rights to Spider-Man and all of his rogues, but for the love of all things holy, STOP making comic book movies like these. Outside of the Miles Morales animated films, you have consistently tainted each character with piss poor writing and god awful attempts to connect it to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. You even tried it here and it doesn't even make any sense! I hope you loose all the rights in the future so that the people over seeing the MCU can properly take care of these beloved characters. UGH!
And now we've come to it. The film that I consider to be the absolute worst of 2022 and the one film I hated the most is………..
Tumblr media
Thor: Love and Thunder: If there's any character in the MCU that has had a full life experience and has become complete by Avengers: Endgame, its Thor. He is my favorite character of the MCU and it makes me so sick to my stomach to see what Kevin Feige and team have allowed Taika Waititi to do to him. Ragnarok was not the epic that it should've been, but it was tolerable once the Russo Brothers fixed the problems plaguing the character from that film. The character was ripped away from progress by Taika and tossed back into his "finding myself" story AGAIN when he already knew who he was! The constant usage of many OUTDATED memes including the stupid screaming goats, was so painful to witness. There was no sense of danger, no sense of compassion, no sense of urgency from any of the heroes. Jane Foster was given a story that could've been so heart wrenching, but it was met with god awful humor and didn't give the powerhouse dramatic actor that Natalie Portman is, anything to work with. Christian Bale was the best part of the film and he only got to shine in maybe 3 scenes that truly defined what this film should've been. This was an SNL sketch that was stretched too far and completely destroys any hope of saving the titular character for the future. When the news came that Taika wasn't gonna do anymore of these films, I rejoiced even though the massive damage had already been done. I truly and deeply hate this dog shit of a movie and in my opinion, it currently holds the number 1 spot of being the worst MCU film ever made.
And there it is ladies and gents! That is my list of the shiniest turds Hollywood crapped out in 2022. 2023 has already started and I hope that this year brings an even shorter list of stinkers. If you hated these films or liked my thoughts on them, let me know in the comments below. Thanks for reading!

✨slumber party tag game✨
I want to have a sleepover with my mutuals and this is my compromise. no obligation to participate if tagged!!
what pajamas are you wearing: either a big ass t-shirt with shorts and fuzzy socks or my onesie with my name embroidered on it (my family all has matching christmas onesies because we’re That White Family™️)
socks or no socks: fuzzy socks everywhere except to sleep
favorite midnight snack(s) : cheddar ruffles or anything chocolate
blanket fort or floor pile: blanket fort with high top chairs as support so we can still see the TV
what movie(s) are you bringing: the adam project, about time, and daniel sloss’s comedy specials
card games, board games, or video games: board games (love Clue especially)
hot cocoa or wine (or other beverage) : hot cocoa!! I also drink like two cups decaf coffee every night so that too
how far are you making it in the pillow fight: i will organize the troops and lead them into battle, but would definitely get my shit rocked, top 4
two truths and a lie: I helped catch a murderer when I was 5, I nearly got murdered on a film set when I was 19, my almost godfather was arrested murderer three days before I was born (accidental homicide theme)
hair braiding, face masks, or makeovers: face masks, specifically the sheet ones with weird designs. like the animal ones
confess one thing about your crush (or partner, squish, or blorbo): he’s got this super soft laugh that takes up his whole face and it’s so contrasting to how he normally looks (super fit and all broody) and it’s adorable
late night daydream song(s) : inevitable by anberlin or cristofori’s dream by david lanz
do you believe in ghosts: kind of, like the scientific version w/ time and space folding in on themselves not like vengeful spirits or possession
what about aliens: oh yeah, with as big as space is, it’d be more unlikely for aliens NOT to exist
have you ever slept talked/walked: I slept walked the night I turned 13. got all my friends and family up and said something bad was gonna happen and freaked them all out. I randomly woke up in my living room and remember none of it rip
what would be your superpower: telekinesis!
what mythical creature are you: I’ve been told I look and act rather fae/nymph like
what position do like to sleep in (plus pillows and blankets preference!) : comforter, two blankets, a gravity blanket and literally nine pillows bcuz I am touch starved. I start on my side w/ a pillow between my legs and always end up on my stomach holding one under my head
three things you like about yourself (no skipping!! this slumber party is about self-love!!) : my intelligence/creativity, my face, and my determination
how late do you stay up (current time): midnight!
I would like to invite to the sleepover (no pressure tagging):
@mrs-nubenueve @homosubtext @i-am-suffer @perpetual-trashcan @kirakirabluemoon @haikyuu-brain-rot
luv to you all ✨

Been listening to these lads since I discovered them last month. Their punk rock sound brings back memories of growing up by the beach and skating every summer. Here is my interview with Lickity Split
Can you tell us a little about Lickity Split? Members etc.
Lickity Split are a 4 piece punk rock band from little old Adelaide, South Australia. We first officially formed in 2020 after all 4 members (Connor Hudson, Jamie Selway, Reece Geaetz and Zak Stuart) all met studying music together at The University Of Adelaide. Obviously forming a band in 2020 presented some challenges but it also gave us time to really hone in on our live show. It also gave us the opportunity to record our first body of work. Our debut EP ‘Daily Dose’ was released in December 2020 and then we were off and running. Since then we’ve played many shows with amazing bands, released another EP, filmed a couple of music videos and just had a shit load of fun!
How did you come up with the band name?
Back in 2019 when we were still at Uni, this band was just an idea. Jamie and I (Connor) were in the very early stages of creating the band and I remember sitting in class and Jamie came straight up to me and said “I’ve got it.. let’s call ourselves Lickity Split.” I instantly loved it. Lickity Split means “as fast as possible” which suits our music pretty well I think. So we changed the ‘E’ to an ‘I’ and the name Lickity Split was born.
I apologise for just discovering you guys now. You released an ep titled “if symptoms persist in 2021. Have you got plans to release any new music soon?
We have got BIG plans for new music. We can’t disclose too much but let’s just say we’ve got a plethora of new material that we can’t wait to release. We’ve grown a lot as muso’s and songwriters since our first 2 EP’s so I think the songs are going to be even faster, louder and tighter than anything we’ve done before. Keep those eyes pealed because we can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on this year!
“You don’t care” is on my current playlist. Great song. What is the story behind it? Who wrote the riff?
So the one and only Jamie Selway wrote ‘You Don’t Care’ back in 2018 for one of our uni recitals. The song has come a long way since then. It used to be a lot slower, much like many of our tracks. Once we started really jamming on it we realised that ‘You Don’t Care’ needed to be quicker. The song is actually about a one night that’s now lasted for 10 years.
Was is your career highlight?
That’s a hard question! We’ve had a few highlights since the birth of Lickity Split. I think selling out Lion Arts Factory for the ‘If Symptoms Persist’ launch would be up there. Getting played and preached on Triple J’s Short Fast Loud was pretty cool. We played the Space Jams festival in Robe during 2022. Also playing with The Terrys was pretty unreal. We do have more but those moments were pretty big for us.
What do you think of the Adelaide music scene?
We can’t speak highly enough for the Adelaide music scene. I don’t think words can really do it justice, you’ll just have to come to Adelaide and see for yourself. We’ve played with countless local bands in the last 2 years and we’re always blown away by the talent here.
What are\were some of your favourite venues to play?
There are many great venues in Adelaide so we’re going to miss a few but off the top of our head’s we’d have to say The Crown and Anchor, Jive, The Uni Bar, Lion Arts Factory and The Gov.
Any gigs/tours you would like to promote?
We don’t have any headline show’s booked in currently but we are performing in the Battle Of The Bands at The District Sky City on October 14th and would absolutely love as much support as possible! Other than that we are in the process of organising an interstate show early next year so definitely keep your ears and eyes out for that.
Who are some other adelaide bands we should have a look at?
Where do we even start?! There are so many incredible bands. We may as well start with some of our buddies in Lola, Looch, Nocturnal Animals, Down and Out, February Clouds, Lily Rose, The Lizards, Agapanther, Alright Psycho, Witch Hunt, Larsen, Jongo Bones and The Barefoot Bandits.. the list could go on honestly! Definitely get over to rAdelaide and go see some live bands. You won’t be disappointed.
What are your long and short term goals?
Well I think a big short term goal of ours is to do some interstate shows/a tour. We’ve been grinding gigs in Adelaide for almost 2 years now so we’d love to take our live show somewhere else and show the rest of Australia what we’re about! We’ve just released a podcast so another short term goal would be to grow the podcast into something bigger and see where it can go. In regards to a long term goal, we’ve always wanted to write an intro for a kids show.. we want to inspire that next generation of Aussie punks!! Nah in all seriousness though, we’d love to get to a point where we are known nation wide. We’ll just keep releasing music and playing shows and hopefully one day it will happen.
Finally, we can people find you? Socials etc?

How many friends do you have on Facebook?: I have 149 friends on there. As I get older, I’ve become more selective over who I will add as a friend on there. I don’t get people who have thousands of friends.
What was on the last sandwich you ate?: I think it was just peanut butter. I don’t really eat sandwiches very often.
What sort of music did you listen to when you were in high school?: At the beginning, it was mostly pop-rock and pop-punk types of music, but by the time I left it was more indie, acoustic, synth-pop type stuff.
Do you prefer gold or silver jewellery?: Silver or white gold.
Have you ever gotten back together with an ex?: Nope.
How far away is the closest store to your house and what is it?: About a three minute walk. It’s a dog-grooming salon.
What is your favourite Thai dish?: Thai food is generally too spicy for me, but our local Thai place does amazing sweet and sour pork with coconut rice.
How many contacts do you have in your phone?: Uh, maybe like 30, and most of those are in there so that I know when not to answer my phone, hahah.
When was the last time you made out with somebody?: Who knows.
What month of the year was your mother born?: June.
Do you have any friends that seem to know all the hot gossip?: Yeah, my husband LOL. He’s a nightmare.
