Idk if we're on the boat or not, but I remember reading an essay about how some female characters are excused for their bad behaviour because people simp for them and they get reduced to the bare minimum of their traits and I wanted to know if you agreed or not

Personally, I believe that's mainly a thing that happens in fandoms dense with cishet men such as various video game series and anime but I'd say it's kinda the opposite in fandoms dense with girls. I mean let's just talk about this fandom, the way that Wendy has been villanized and OOCed in every single popular comic in this fandom is insane. I could name names but like, literally I'd be here for hours. Take one popular creator in this whole fandom and they've probably made her a mean bitchy cheerleader. Or sheila being made to be homophobic in every half baked cringey style fanfic even though she's canonically supportive of queerness all around. Or Henrietta or Bebe or -insert any and all female characters in this show-. This fandom is obsessed with making their female characters villains and it's honestly weird and gross. I do think, just as men sexualizing them, that the people in this fandom also reduce them to bare traits and even worse traits they don't even showcase. I've seen Wendy and Sheila be villains in this fandom more times than Cartman. This fandom loves hating female characters and they're stuff in the same 2014 fujoshi thought train of this girl stands in between my smol bean uwu cinnamon roll gay ship so she's Satan herself. It's gross, it's weird, stop doing that. So much of this fandom has turned the characters just into OCs. I mean just look at the most popular versions of Kyle, he's literally just become Wendy but while being a guy. And incredibly feminized and OOC guy at all although he canonically doesnt like feminine and over the top styles and aesthetics but that's a topic for another time. Tldr; this fandom hates girls but it's still to heteronormative not to inherently make one of the characters in their gay ships basically a girl.

For example, when its comes to me, everything started with this one video edit on YT, and then I read STL and @flowerslut ‘s CotN, and ohmy its was the beginning of the end for me, lol) 12-old me watched Twilight and was like “meh”, 19 yo me read Jalice and was like “ooh”. OH, I actually know this one! Which is kind of weird for me, my fandom acquisition is usually very odd.

Rewind back to Twilight's release (I actually have the OG Twilight release with the Alice cover somewhere), I was 18-19 and was enriched for about 10 minutes and then realized that I actually found it a deeply flawed and unsatisfying story, but I already know that I was here for Alice and Jasper only (though I have a vivid memory of opening my brand new copy of New Moon outside the post-office and being delighted when I saw Emmett's name on the page. No other context for that memory except that I was horrified how much paperback copies of New Moon and Eclipse cost me).

I have the recollection of reading one specific Jalice fic back then that didn't really spark joy, but that was about the sum of my investment in the OG Twilight fandom.

My sister dragged me to the first movie, I cackled at how Carlisle looked like he'd been dowsed with powdered sugar, was highly disappointed in the costumes and Alice's story being cut out of the movie, and moved on with my life.

Fast forward to 2014. I was heavily into the MCU, and was pretty fucking invested in Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes (the superior Marvel cartoon, fyi), and was pretty enriched by one Janet Van Dyne and her dynamic with Captain America. Sadly, the cartoon had been axed for a hot minute by then and the fic was pretty limited. I'd say there were 10? Which lasted me exactly half an hour.

I was also working an internship and a full-course load and would end up spiraling into a Majorly Depressed Girl Summer, so my nighttime thing was to collapse on my couch with my iPad, the remote, and an ice pack for my headache and just read fic. But I was out. I had no Janet/Steve fic left that I hadn't essentially memorized.

So what ship would give me the exact same vibes (smol and hyper, tall and stern)? That had a whole bunch of fic available?

Alice and Jasper were right fucking there.

Around this time (November 30, 2014) as well, ABC Kids decided to play Breaking Dawn which was the fucking *weirdest* combination. I have no idea what the American equivalent would be, tbh. But Breaking Dawn on ABC *Kids*? That was a goddamn joke in itself, so OF COURSE I watched it. And Part 2 when it played (Lee Pace was a welcome surprise, as was Rami Malek.)

And I was like, welp, let's just fucking *go*. I spent the summer reading every Jalice fic on FF.Net *eye-twitch* and then I started writing it because the initial vibes had fit my needs, but now I was invested in writing - specifically, human Alice/vampire Jasper. That genre is like crack to me, and I will do it a million times over and still be having a great time.

oh yeah so something I realized is that, you know the “asexuals don’t care about sex UwU we just want cake UwU” mindset that felt so pervasive on 2012-2014 ace Tumblr? I think that might’ve contributed to the internal aphobia I had for a while. I think it contributed a lot tbh. and it’s complicated being angry about it bc most of the people doing it were teenagers and very new adults who were also figuring themselves out and being clumsy. but it still contributed.

because first of all some of it bordered on fucking infantilization like…painting aces as smol bean babies whose disinterest in sex was to the point of naïveté. when many of us were adults who absolutely didn’t want to be viewed in the same way as children simply for not experiencing sexual attraction in a conventional way or at all. like I do not understand how people could not see how much more aphobic it was to make an ace character childlike and make their naïveté a source of comedy. The only way it makes sense is if you assume the author felt this way and thought they were being relatable.

and additionally that rhetoric was very alienating to me as someone who was and is a sex-positive ace (probably grey-ace). I like sexual things. I want to have sex. I just don’t experience sexual attraction to strangers and people I don’t know well enough. like I had a guy friend who tried having conversations about hot girls with me when he found out I like women and I could just never relate to him wanting to bang celebrities. He’d show me pictures and I’d just be like “uhhhh yeah she’s pretty alright”

but the point is I’m still interested in sex. and yeah there were conversations back then about the ace spectrum and how one can still enjoy sexual activity while being ace but like. it still felt like sex-positive aces in particular were pushed to the margins. that was how I experienced it at least. and it was alienating because it felt like another form of invalidation, when people act and acted like being asexual always means complete disinterest in anything sexual.

and like I don’t really want to sound like I’m like…idk…I get why people did all the cake jokes and stuff for the same reason that people are loud and proud about being any other queer label, because you’ve been made to feel like you’re abnormal and now you’re being told you’re alright. I get it. But that doesn’t mean it wasn’t still infuriating and unwelcoming having people pay lip service to the idea of there being an ace spectrum while also engaging in rhetoric making it seem like there’s only one way to experience asexuality

Oh and on top of that, I feel like lately I’ve seen more rhetoric going around that if a character is like, gay, then it’s also more ideal for them to be asexual than allosexual?? this might be more niche even in the fandom space but I’ve seen Some Takes that are just like. hello you have reinvented Christian “love the sinner hate the sin” homophobia. the “being gay is okay as long as you don’t have sex because that’s evil and dirty UwU” homophobia. which is maybe what a lot of the 2012-2014 rhetoric was reminiscent of.

idk. I’m sure this wasn’t the only thing but it definitely feels like a significant thing.

recently been on a rewatching spree of races, mostly 2014 onwards, although I also enjoy watching mclaren lewis (he was so smol) and I thought initially I’ll finally bring myself to rewatch some 2021 lewis wins,,, but jeez I tried and I genuinely can’t I get this really uncomfortable feeling whenever I see the 2021 season tab on f1 tv, and it’s all because of how it ended, and the injustice on the very last lap of the last race I can’t watch the entire season; there’s this foreboding there, in all these races up to ad, all the ups and downs of the season, even in those amazing lewis wins, that I personally can’t get rid off

VENT ART DUMP

While i'm not currently in need of vent art, i feel i want to collect the pieces i've done in one place. I may have folders on my drive, but you don't have access to these, so let's go through some in chronological order. Siddown and prepare for a trip. :V

The very earliest example of what could probably qualify for vent art maybe possibly, stemming all the way back from 2008. As you can tell, i was salty about random homework bullshit. :V

^ That lil smol boi! From 2011, we have a classic art block art. Back then, i did pixel art. I do have other things from that period that could pass for vent art if presented as such, but fact is just that i sometimes drew really off the wall things when i was in a morbid mood.

From 2013.

...I genuinely can't remember if this is vent art or not, but i think i was basically just letting random shit flow, and it sure looks like i had a lot of unresolved issues. :v

From 2014, this depicts what i now know to be the autistic brain revolt i experience when major changes in plan are suddenly introduced and i don't have time to readjust mentally.

From 2015, this one worried my therapist at the time. I can confirm i wasn't feeling good at the time, at all. :V

Also from 2015, this is an odd edge case in that i wasn't actually venting anger, but i was channeling anger into the drawing anyways. Somehow, for some reason. Wanted to try i guess. :v

Sudden skip to 2019 because i didn't draw any vent art in the preceding three years. This remains one of my rawest vent arts to date, depicting some pretty hardcore anxiety, one step short of a panic attack. Drawing it was a rather intense experience.

From 2020, this was me venting about sleep deprivation, which kinda turned into more of a nightmare, with a very roughly approximated view from my bed. I haven't actually had this specific nightmare, but hey! :V

From 2021, i was feeling VERY BAD when i made this. I'm not sure i even need to explain it, for once.

Still in 2021, Doofus suddenly appears, with me now having a more consistent subject for my vent doodles. Here we have one of my many bouts of random crushing fatigue, the cause of which i still haven't fully identified beyond "you don't get enough sleep you dumbass".

Finally in 2022, the doofventing continues. Here, brain noise. My brain was just noise, i couldn't think straight or settle on any thoughts for any extended period of time.

Overstimulation! That wonderful neurodivergent thing when there's too much input and not enough time to process it all.

Social anxiety. Almost every time i depart from a social situation, i feel as if i've made some huge mistake that'll negatively impact the relevant relationships forever. Even if i haven't. :V

Phoebe getting to do a vent for me for once; i had a LOT of excess anger that day, so i decided to draw her in a state of murderous rage. I haven't talked much about Phoebe here, but the bottom line is that she's one of Baphomet's daughters, and thus a demigod that you absolutely positively do not want to piss off to this degree.

And finally, a venty sketch that turned into something more experimental with those glow-in-the-dark lines. I was also feeling unusually cranky here, and at the time i was secondarily annoyed at cheap and shitty horror cliches, so i drew Doofus being equally sick of getting repeatedly jumpscared by a generic horror monster.

That's about it for now, bonus points if you made your way through all of these. It's not all i have, but i don't want to sit here writing all day and you don't want to sit here reading all day when there's other cool things to be read. :V

a large chunk of writers in the ah community (hell a large chunk of the ah community full stop) are white and it shows in how a good sum of them write non-white characters. its an issue in all fanfiction about non-white characters/people written by white people. often theyre reduced make them one-note, one joke, one purpose narrative tools that often rely on weird racist fanon that interprets them as uwu smol beans or total evil bad!!! no matter what role said character might play in the story. theres no development or character study, no room for complex ideas and concepts. its something white writers (myself included) need to unlearn because from learning about this from bipoc whp are creators that i know, ive learnt just how blatant it is (especially when it comes to black people in fandom and the treatment of black characters. thats a WHOLE connected and massive issue).

I'm glad you've pointed this out in the AH fandom because the way people choose still to focus on ryans character instead of the many new personalities and members that have been added in the recent year is incredibly telling about where the focus lies. Racism isn't just the blatant stuff we see on reddit. It's ingrained and needs active work to unlearn and it should be recognised and rectified if spaces like these are going to be made safe for BIPOC who are fans and/or creators.

i have a bad habit of putting the most important stuff i want to say in the tags, especially in regards to subjects like racism in fandom, and part of that is due to the fear of being harassed. going forward, i'm going to try to kill that habit, because i've truly been through a lot of shit; from everything with haywood since last october, to the constant, rampant attacks towards mica, fiona, ky, bk, and every other member, guest, and fan of color since i first joined the fandom back in early 2014, and much longer before i even joined. hell, i rarely mention that i'm black because of all this shit. i'm still scared of being harassed, but at this point, i truly have nothing to lose.

frankly, a reason why a decent chunk of the AH fandom, and any fandom in general, are white is because fans of color just don't feel safe. either that, or they're ran out of what they thought was an inclusive, welcoming community due to the harassment they received. in the worst case scenario, that harassment can lead to someone taking their own life, but that's considered too taboo to talk about in a white-dominated fandom space.

the beef i personally have with fanfiction writers in this community is, along with everything you've said, that they treat the real people they're writing about as purely fictional ocs. this is why i believe that people are still writing the vagabond or the mad king or whatever fucking character ryan came up with as if it were their own. they use the bullshit "separate the art from the artist" excuse because they know what they're doing is wrong, but they don't care enough to stop. they just want to find some lame justification to get away with it. it's the same thing when general fans, especially white fans, pretend the blatantly racist comments they spew are totally fine because, in their words, "it's just criticism."

they're too stubborn to change. and i guess, so am i, in a way? despite everything, i'm still here, because no matter what, i'm too stubborn to leave.

Scorpius also makes his appearance and it’s so real and cute!

And also incredibly talented. This fic will take your breath away from the first word to the last one. Smol!Scorpius is perfectly characterised and my absolute favourite bit of the fic.

Quick made something amazing with this fic and I urge you to read it. It was my first creature fic ever, first time I read about werewolves and I totally fell in love with it. Sheer perfection.

Hi, okay I'm new to all things 1D and Larry is real because how can they not when the proof is in the pudding. Anyway, in my studies of MPs and gifs posts I see a lot of gifs about 'subtle' (not subtle) touches and love-handles holding, etc. but I also see that the boys, in general, were very touchy with each other. so when larry touch, fond, etc, are they isolated incidents or could you say the same about the other boys?

you can definitely take any 2 people there's just a lot of footage of, isolate moments, slow down the speed, zoom in, put some music in the in the back and you've set yourself a nice and maybe even convincing scene. So yeah you can say the same about all the other boys, about any combination (ok maybe not ANY but most of them sure), and in fetus times they were just one big pile of limbs anyway so yeah what makes them different from the others?

like what is this is this a thruple then (i mean no judgement if it is, I'm all for thruples, but the point is you just need 1 moment to make something look like something it's maybe not)

The thing is, it's not in the touches, not even in the looks, it's not in any of the footage of them together, it's all the patterns, the consistencies of everything surrounding them. Like I'm not going to claim these touches that we've seen are of romantic nature just because they look like it. I'm gonna do that because of all the surrounding mess pointing at that they're indeed an item.

Then with harry he either flirts / comes onto ppl and helped why we're still cruising narry and zarry, i mean that fratboy especially, coming for them lol almost as if he's just teasing them to see at what point they would get uncomfortable, or he's the opposite like a little tiny smol spoon of AAAHHH SHIT when men come onto him instead (I'm thinking of liam on stage in like 2014/15 or for sone reason those pics with lenny kravitz bahahahs) and with Louis he's neither, he's gentle back, he's aware of his space and letting him have the space, letting him speak for the both of them.

But anyway yuri gets into an accident at like 40ish and is sent back in time and he wakes up in his roughly 17-18y/o body after a collision during a free skate practice. He collided with georgi and proceeds to bomb his skate because of a concussion. He then realizes that he is in the past and starts to actually try and becomes a raising star. And hes trying to get Victor's attention and get him to fall in love with him again. Pichit is the ultimate wingman! I loved this fic and concept and would love to reread it. TIA!

What is your favorite shark and why

Honestly, I kinda love Catsharks.

They're also known as Dogfish and Gato but "Catshark" is just a cute name for a smol sharkie.

I especially like the Small Spotted Catshark, aka, the Morgay (in Scotland and Cornwall) or the Sandy Dogfish. This is entirely because one of them spat water at me at the Blue Planet when I went with my niece for her birthday because I wasn't allowed to pet it.

Damn you COVID, you ruined the dream of a Catfish to get cuddles from me. Curses!

Lesser/Small Spotted Catsharks can grow pretty big, reaching 3.3ft and can weight more than 2 kilos, but they're also just adorable and I don't care if one could make breathing difficult or not, I just don't. I wanna cuddle one. All of them, actually.

What I LOVE most of all is that a study from 2014 by Exeter University literally showed that Small Spotted Catsharks have different personalities. So the one who spat at me at the Blue Planet and then went to the bottom of the rock pool and breathed water went for a nap because it didn't get cuddles.

How am I meant to handle this information without flailing and going back to beg forgiveness of this baby, hmm? I'M NOT, THAT'S THE ANSWER.

I mean, look at that face. How can you not wanna cuddle it and whisper apologies for not letting it eat you because you're not actually on its menu? Hmm. How?
