So I've read three of Ali Hazelwood's novels and realized that there's a pattern in how she wrote the leading man in her stories:
Wears Henley shirts
Acts like an ass but there's a "perfectly reasonable” excuse
Has a huge house/loft/bachelor pad for himself
Family's pretty much non-existent
Has huge hands that are always ready to catch the female lead
Well-built frame and abs that reveal themselves during sexy time
Has a big thing but advises that the female lead can "take it"
Same lines during cheesy and spicy chapters (and techniques 😳)
Willing to give anything (everything he has, celestial bodies, whatever she wants...)
I can practically make a bingo card but then again, no matter how familiar and predictable reading these novels were, they were a nice break to all the sad ones I've read recently.
P.S. Is this possibly a type? 🤭

" I can give you nice. I can give you better than nice. I can give you everything. You don't have to admit to yourself that you love me, Bee. God knows I love you enough for the both of us."

while i do appreciate the politics in academia that love theoretically throws light on as a poc woman in stem i do believe that the tropes are getting a little too repetitive for my liking. i liked the love hypothesis and love on the brain. i even have the paperbacks for both of them. but love theoretically just didn't hit the spot for me. i am getting tired of the repetitive enemies to lovers misunderstanding and miscommunication trope that hazelwood includes in all her books. i feel like there is so much that can be done with a female lead in stem that highlights how xenophobic, sexist and misogynistic academia can be without reusing the same trope over and over again.
i am not saying the book was bad, i just feel like her plots are stagnant and getting repetitive. there's nothing new to expect and honestly that breaks my heart a little bit. because i love the women in stem representation. we have been ostracized by the society in every way possible and i was really happy to find an author who would finally write from our perspective. but it's just not doing it for me anymore :/

I've read the last chapter of Love on the Brain about five times already. I wish certain books had sequels, but alas. I’ll add fan art instead 😭

Ok so who's going to tell Ali she can't be using the same gimmick just with an extra letter twice in books she put out within a decade of each other?

Thursday, July 20 — Swooning over Levi Ward ♡
Ali Hazelwood became my favorite author the moment she wrote Adam Carlsen and Levi Ward.
No one writes good men with brains other than her (at least for me).
Not to mention the settings of her books are about STEM. My love for Science and Romance novel in one, perfect combination.

if I had a nickel for everytime I've read the sentence "It is a truth universally acknowledged that" in a book, I'd have too many nickels to count, because it has happened too many times to count

How long have they been in Sydney : In her mind bee only recently moved to Sydney after growing up on the sunshine coast
Personality description (in your own words) : Bee loves everything to do with space, she's a women in stem and loves to explore the unknown. she's kind but also holds grudges - miscommunication is her main trope and once she realises you're not the bad guy she's actually quite friendly.
Memories of their real life : she remembers everything
What was their fake life like : In her fake life Bee grew up on the sunshine coast in QLD. She grew up in a family of two, having a younger brother. Her parents worked full time and she was often left alone to take care of her brother. Due to this she's not in a huge rush to have children as she feels like she missed a lot of her childhood raising her brother.
