BEETLEJUICE GRAVEYARD REVUE AU!!!!! (With art)

Im not very active on here anymore but to those that follow me on Twitter uh you know im #normal about the beetlejuice graveyard revue and I’ve been working on an au for this niche universal show for the past month.

Before we start idk if you all know what this show is so in simplest terms the Beetlejuice Graveyard Revue is a theme park show that ran in the Universal parks from 1991-2016 (in the US). In the show, Beetlejuice puts on a rock and roll show featuring the Universal Monsters HOWEVER, given that they are monsters and not hip cool rock and rollers, BJ transfunkafies the monsters into rockstars for the show (with the audiences help)

The monsters included in the show originally are:

• Dracula

• Frankenstein’s monster

• The Bride of Frankenstein

• The Wolfman

• The Phantom of the Opera

Further down the line Erik was removed and replaced with Hip and Hop, and later, Cleopatra and Phantasia. However, in this AU it’s just gonna be this set of monsters (with some appearances by Hip and Hop)

ANYWAY. THE AU. what if beetlejuice turns the universal monsters into rockstars, as per usual, but he can’t turn them back to normal afterwards. So BJ being BJ is like KACHING so he becomes their manager/ring leader and they become like an official touring band.

All the monsters retain their memories and characteristics in this change, but they get new skills and slight changes in personality in order to fit this star power vibe. They’re like chemically engineered rockstars.

Drac is like the gay emo cousin and that’s the best way I can describe it he’s always hungry always trying to bite someone you tell him to stop and he’s like “oooHHHH MY gOoOOdAAH”. Hip and Hop are like their groupies!

One time they forgot Dracula at like a pitstop and he did hard drugs, got 7 tattoos he couldn’t pay for, killed 4 people and injured 12, he also fucked some bitches and sucked a ton of blood. they picked him up later that day

Frankie is very nice and not very bright and Drac and BJ especially like messing with him. The bride is the defacto leader if Beetlejuice isn’t there. Bride is the most levelheaded one that’s why she’s the leader and they all listen to her cause a. She’s hot b. Yeah she seems to know what she’s talking about c. Feminism!

Bride and Frank are both not very bright but Bride is really confident and logical so she can figure things out quicker but she and Frankie still do little homeschool lessons sometimes. I think it’d be lessons from BJ but they’re all horribly distorted so Erik has to come and be like no no stop omfg. BEETLEJUICE. YOURE GONNA GIVE THEM STDS… LOWER YOUR HAND FRANKIE. They’re also few and far between cahse BJ doesn’t care and forgets also. If they’re bickering (Phantom and BJ) Bride and Frankie read up on their own (if they care) and help each other.

Wolfie is not allowed alone because if you leave him alone for too long he will destroy the furniture. He’s usually with Beetlejuice, if not he’s with the #gang if not he’s with hip and hop but he’s not allowed alone

Beetlejuice and the phantom are basically the ones in control most of the time (they are married) (they aren’t) (they might as well be) this is where the feminism comes in although phantom would be second in command if beetlejuice wasn’t there. hes a sort of a cryptic fellow (he’s also very dramatic) anyway he’ll just do his own thing UNLESS someone touches him the wrong way then he’s like the dramatic ass we know and love and he’ll be just immature as the rest of them. My boys also been trying to not be as much of a dick to women and he also likes bride cause who doesn’t. so he likes that she’s the one taking the lead if not him.

Also on phantom being the only one with a license it’s really funny cause his song has that car thing going on. frank shouldn’t be anywhere near a wheel, bride does not know or care to drive she’s literally one week old, drac would purposely throw them off a cliff, Wolfie would drive like he’s playing gta and BJ is a lazy fuck. At one point Erik quits and begins working at Kmart and then right after Kmart goes bankrupt.

With the release of the HHN speculation map, I wanted to make some guesses on what the IPs will be this year.

The volume turned off logo definitely means we’re getting A Quiet Place. It would make a lot of sense since the first two movies are really popular and a third is coming out in June. This house will take you through all three movies.

The moon with stars has appeared in a HHN house before. It appeared in the Nightmare on Elm Street house at HHN 17. So yeah, I think Elm Street is pretty much confirmed. Good timing, as it’s the 40th anniversary of the first movie. This, if done right, could be a really fun and trippy house. They can take a lot from those movies.

I think the unknown IP is going to be the fan favorite this year. I think it’ll be about another famous Freddy in horror. This will be the long-rumored FNAF house. The first movie was a success and the second will be filming soon, so it makes sense. I think they’ll probably base it on the movie, but maybe they’ll do what they did for Last of Us and make it based on the games.

For the car logo one, I was confused at first. I tried to look up what logo that was. Turns out it’s a 1959 Cadillac. You know what famous movie car is a 1959 Cadillac? The Ecto-1. So I think this house will be based on another movie turning 40 this year: Ghostbusters. I know we got a Ghostbusters house back in 2019 and that was more fun than scary, but I think this can follow in those footsteps. Since it’s an anniversary, it’ll probably be based on more than one movie. I can see it being the original, Ghostbusters 2, Afterlife, and Frozen Empire.

For the skull with sharp teeth, it’ll probably be themed around the Universal Monsters, specifically Dracula, but hear me out…

For a while, I’ve wanted some of the anime licenses at Universal Studios Japan to come to the U.S. Even though this house is probably Dracula, it would be so cool if it was themed around Demon Slayer. The guests could be on the run from demons while meeting characters like Tanjiro, Nezuko, and Muzan. Plus, Demon Slayer is pretty big in the U.S., so Universal could have a hit house on their hands.

Lastly, there’s going to be a show with an IP based on this map. The only hint is the castle icon. I think it could be two things. 1. It’s a Rocky Horror tribute since that show mostly takes place in a castle. 2. It’s a revival of Beetlejuice’s Graveyard Revue since that’s set in a castle. Hey, Beetlejuice is getting a sequel this year and the musical was popular, so who knows.

The theater kids of a cappella had such a grand time with their entertaining "Aca Top 10 — Broadway" countdown that they included it in their setlist for the 2015 Sing-Off tour. But even among the silliness, Tony's excerpt of Phantom revealed some serious dramatic chops. VoicePlay rarely record a song in a way it's already been done by a thousand others, though. Layne created a bold take on this classic, haunting ballad.

They'd dipped their toes into the pool of full character costumes with "Survivor" and "Once Upon a Dream", so this was the next step in their journey toward more elaborate productions. And if you're going to tackle one of the most iconic songs in musical theater, you call in your friend who's performed in multiple Broadway shows.

Trivia:

The guys had previously recorded a portion of this song as part of their "Aca Top 10 — Broadway" medley, which they also performed on the 2015 Sing-Off Tour.

Fans were already hyped for the full version, but VoicePlay built anticipation even more by posting countdown images to their social media.

Talented seamster that he is, Tony made Rachel's incredible flouncy Christine gown.

Tony's skilled cape-ography during his entrance was honed over a decade of playing Dracula in the Beetlejuice Rock and Roll Graveyard Revue at Universal Studios. (Often alongside Geoff, Kathy, and other future VoicePlay and PattyCake collaborators.)

The video description on YouTube includes a note that the set was built by Layne, Tony, and "Geoff's mutilated hand". He slipped and jabbed a screwdriver into his palm during construction. If you watch closely, he's very deliberate about his hand placements to hide and accommodate the wound.

They got a mention on Playbill's website.

The upload on Facebook hit 3 million views in just a month, and 10 million views in less than six months.

This video was nominated for a 2016 CARA in the Best Non-Scholastic Video category.

It was also nominated for the 2017 A Cappella Video Awards in both the Outstanding Costume / Makeup and Best Musical / Soundtrack Video categories, and won the latter.

A high school a cappella group in California performed this arrangement on a float during their homecoming parade the following autumn.

Professional swing dancers Jesse Lopez and Patty Vo used this song for their "superstar show" at the 2017 DC Swing Experience.

The 1988 Film “Beetlejuice” has had a special place in my heart for many years ♥️. It’s because of this film that I discovered Phantom of the Opera when he appeared in the “Beetlejuice Graveyard Revue'' which of course started my journey into proudly becoming a “Theatre Nerd.” 🎭 As you can imagine when I found out Beetlejuice was being made into a Broadway Musical it felt like a full circle moment for me. Since I don’t live in New York 🗽, I knew there was a very small chance that I would ever see the Broadway Production and even if I did, most of the original cast would probably have left by that point. When the show announced that it was being evicted from the Winter Garden Theater in 2019 followed by the Covid Pandemic in 2020 shutting down theater shows, I definitely knew I wouldn’t be seeing it. The fact that it not only was able to come back in a different theater in 2022, but that I was able to see it during my family’s visit to New York that same year was honestly a bit surreal Just to clarify for anyone who is not aware, yes the voice Alex Brightman does as Beetlejuice is 100% safe and healthy. It in no way puts any strain or damage on his vocal cords. “Ventricular Fold Phonation,” Google it. 🔍 While the show may have closed on Broadway, this show about Death is still Alive in the form of its National Tour. Hold up one second, if you're really taking spooky month requests atm, then are there any rules or conditions that we should be aware of? Do they have to involve certain fandoms and such? And are crossovers also allowed?

Thank you so much for asking! That is something I should have clarified in my original post.

Rule-wise, my expectations are:

Keep things safe for work and in good taste. (Nothing explicit or political.)

Nothing morally questionable, hateful, or majorly triggering. (e.g.: homophobia, racism, adult/minor relationships, SA, ED, etc.)

Minor amounts of blood, alcohol, or cigarettes are permitted but may be marked by a spoiler to avoid hurting sensitive viewers.

I do not currently have any conditions other than just following my rules. I will be posting a lot of spooky art, but you are not limited to spooky suggestions.

On fandoms, my blog has primarily featured Beetlejuice in all adaptations: (Cartoon, musical, movie, and I hope to get around to Graveyard Revue.)
