I don't usually draw animals nor do I draw anthro/humanoid characters, so here's my attempt at figuring out how I'd draw Shamura in my style; take one! Definitely inspired by other CoTL artists, though I do hope to make a design kind of unique to me and my interpretation of them?
Lowkey got lazy in my attempt to draw their left side- oh, and! I want the purple crown to give the feel of a halo-esque fantasy crown, but that's in the works, as is the design, soooo...
(Totally not studying spider anatomy despite my fear thereof to better draw them... I would never)

My human ver of Panda from We Bere Bears
his human name is Arthur what means bear when I first searched what his human name shoud be frist I searched East Asian male names frist bicause of his chinese lineage and he is a fan of anime,k-pop and taiwanese cluture, but I couden*t fand any that fit him perfect so I want for a nomal english name and after fanding out that Arthur means bear so choosed that name.
Most people who drawed the bears as humans awayes put glasses on Panda but I didn*t put him in glasses well he does were contact lenses but there was one fanart of them as humans that show when they were younger Panda/Arthur wore glasses as a kid so I also went for that.
The art work was inswpared by a crossover between We Bere Bears and The Polar Bear cafe or Shirokuma cafe by BearGarbage on AO3 called the PB Cafe.
His eyes were frist dark turquoise but I change them to olive green bicause if you ever whact the spinoff show We Baby Bears you woud noticed that they have some color pop off in they eyes.
PS:I know that thoes two shows have defferent conturaty.

Literal World Map of Continents and Water Areas
by ProbablyPixel
A map of the literal  translation for the continents and the larger divisions of the oceans  ('waters'), seas ('filters') and gulfs ('bosoms') of the world, at least  until I got bored.
My methodology  was, whenever possible, revert the development of a word until its  literal meaning stopped being the current definition.
Some observations made during this process;
'Baltic' and 'Caspian' both mean "white", thus their respective seas are labelled the same
'East'  and 'South' both descend from words meaning "dawn", hence the South and  East China Seas being the same. Meanwhile, North means 'left' but south  does not mean 'right'.
The  Barents and Bering sea were both named after guys with 'bear' in their  name. Perhaps being named for a bear compels you to explore near the  Ocean of Bears.
Of all the words on the map, the word red has always meant red, as far back as the PIE language. Red is Red!

Dune Spoilers:
I like the Dune book series - it’s one of the first sci fic books I ever read and we all know they're the blueprint. And Deni's movies are a visual masterpiece. With that being said, I have some issues with the movies because of their use of Arab culture to build their world while most of their cast and staff isn’t even middle eastern. But I don’t feel I have the authority to talk about it so I’ll refer to some posts. (x x x)
But with a lot of criticism I disagree with the takes about the movie showing us a "white savior trope" and I don’t want to yell that media literacy is death when it comes to analyzing entertainment but yes because Paul Atreides is being portrayed as a cautionary tale since the very first introduction to Dune in the movies. Chani starts the movie explaining Arraki’s story about being invaded and under the ex rule of an imperial house and asks the following question: “Who’ll our next oppressors be?” while cutting directly to Paul and starting his journey. Paul isn’t being shown as the white savior that will free the Fremen from the imperial rule and get them the paradise they see in the prophecy. He quickly becomes a power hungry leader with a god complex and I think Dune: Part Two heavily showcases this transition. Paul spends a lot of time denying what he could be and when he has the ability to see he can win and rule the world - his greed takes over.
Paul’s ascent to power in the 3rd act isn’t even being portrayed as a good thing — it’s supposed to be dark and full of warnings about the tyrant he’ll become. It’s there in his scary speech and Chani’s face. Both Paul and Jessica are being shown as manipulative people that are leading the Fremen into false hopes and religious fanaticism. Paul knew from the very start that the Bere Gesserit were planting ideas on the Fremen about him being the one - and he knew he needed to convince the remaining doubtful people of the prophecy if he wanted them on his side for his revenge. He was using the Fremen for his vengeance agaisnt the emperor. And he might’ve fallen in love with Chani and genuinely believe his place is at Arrakis' but he quickly transforms into the Messiah that plays into people’s false worship. He knows the easiest way to control the Fremen is by playing into the prophecy.
Paul’s Atraides isn’t about a hero’s journey but mostly the journey of an anti hero. We are not supposed to think he is the good guy. In the books there’s this important quote from Frank Herbert’s himself: “No more terrible disaster could befall your people than for them to fall into the hands of a hero.” because Paul isn’t there to save them from colonialism just replacing their old oppressors (Harkonnen) with him.
And I was pleasantly surprised with the changes in Chani’s character by her having more agency by being a freedom fighter and the only one seeing the wrongs in the increasing fanaticism towards Paul and the dangers this means for her people instead of playing the passive girlfriend that sticks by his side despite him becoming everything he swore won't be like in the books. And I really hope they change some parts of her arc in the last movie and she goes against him. Or at the very least have her still present a strong opposition to his world view. It would turn their relationship more interesting than her spending 12 years as his concubine wanting to bear him children and dying for it. I think Denis seems to be planning a better way to portray the women in the last movie and I can't wait to see what he does with them.
I just feel like people will get to Dune: Messiah and be so confused as if Paul going into a dark path and becoming Arraki's next oppressor wasn't pretty much there all along.

I'm about to go on a rant about Sasquatch.
I'm not sorry.
Tumblr media
So.
Sasquatch. Bigfoot. Big hairy thing in the woods. What is it, and why is it so fucking hard to find?
Honestly, the simplest and most effective answer to basically any question asked about it is: "It's an Ape. Duh."
Okay, what is it? It's an Ape. A Great Ape. What specific branch is unknown, but it DEFINITELY ISN'T A GIGANTOPITHECUS DESCENDANT!!! Giganto was an Orangutan relative and Sasquatch is clearly more related to Apes like Gorilla and Chimpanzee. Stop that. Just because it was big doesn't mean that that's the only animal Sasquatch could be related to.
On the point of bigness, first, Giganto is good precedent for Apes being able to get that big, so the argument that Sasquatch couldn't as big as it's reported to be is already dead.
Why would it get so big, though? Well, why did everything else that came across the Bering land bridge get so damn big? Bountiful resources, need to adapt, freedom for experimental forms to arise due to lack of competition. Everything in the Ice Age Species Exchange did 2 things: Got really fucking big and got really fucking weird, so an ape coming over would experience the same lack of competition and adaptive pressures.
So why would we have such a hard time finding them if they've been here the whole time? Well, for starters, we do find them. Often. You just stick your fingers in your ears, close your eyes, and chant "Hoaxes and Bears! Hoaxes and Bears!". So... That's a you problem. Also, let's put ourselves in the mindset of a Sasquatch for a minute here:
You're a Sasquatch.
You're probably somewhere between Gorilla and Chimpanzee levels of intelligence.
You're hanging out, doing your thing, walking through the woods, and you enter a clearing.
The clearing is full of dead shit, fires and screaming, hairless murderous cryptids that can kill basically anything it wants.
You recognize that this thing is a threat.
You also recognize that they usually stay in or near the plains.
You also recognize that they usually don't come out at night.
You also recognize that if they can see it, they can kill it.
You make the easy connection that the best method for not being killed by these things is to go where they don't (Deep forests and inaccessible mountains) and do your thing when they're inactive (Night).
Now, practice this habit for an absolute bare minimum of the last 10,000 years (the last time the Bering land bridge was accessible, but they likely would have came over on one of the earlier openings, which was up to several million years ago) and you have an animal that is very well adapted to seeing Humans as an existential threat and keeping well the fuck away from them.
Alright, well, if they're real, why haven't we found fossils? ... My guy, do you have any idea how ludicrously difficult it is to find ANY Primate fossils? We have functionally 0 Chimpanzee fossils. We have a handful of teeth for Gorillas. Orangutans, also mostly just a couple dozen teeth. Gigantopithecus, the guy that everyone points to (erroneously) as an ancestor of Sasquatch, is only known from a partial jaw bone. Most of it's anatomy is just speculation.
For all practical purposes, there may as well not be any Primate fossils.
So now tell me why you would expect to find any Sasquatch fossils?
Well, why are primate fossils so hard to find? Forests. For a fossil to be preserved, the animal needs to either be buried swiftly after death in mostly light sediment, like sand and silt, or have their bones picked clean and, still, buried in some form of sediment quickly (like burial in a grave).
Forests rarely ever have such conditions. Most bodies are left in open air, humid, bioactive, scavenger filled conditions with very few chances to be buried (unless they end up falling in a river).
Oh, and North American forests are possibly the worst possible forests for fossil preservation, if for no other reason than fucking porcupines. Little bastards actively EAT BONES. So, yeah, finding fossils in NA forests is nigh impossible for an already nigh impossible animal to expect a fossil from.
Alright, but that doesn't explain why we can't find them. Well, for starters, we do, you guys just call all the witnesses liars, drunks or idiots. And expecting that kind of reaction tends to dampen one's enthusiasm to tell people what you've seen...
... So that's your fault, when you really think about it.
Also, who's gonna fund a multiple years expedition into the most remote reaches of the continent, with people the scientific (ha, ironic) community has made a habit of condemning as quacks and hoaxers, with military grade search and reconnaissance equipment, trying to build an entirely new field of study from scratch, to find an animal that is deliberately, consciously, trying to not be found.
Oh, so you just conveniently just can't find any evidence, but it totally exists? We have hair, which is call hoaxes. We have foot, hand and full body prints, which you call hoaxes. We have dermal ridges (the stuff that makes your fingerprint, but they exist on your hands and feet), which you call hoaxes. We have photos, which you call hoaxes. We have videos, which you call hoaxes. We have audio recordings, which you call hoaxes. We have basically everything short of a physical specimen.
Well then get a physical specimen!
A) Again, they are actively trying to stay away from humans. They likely don't visit the same places twice when they see humans around.
B) Sightings are rare, brief and probably deliberate on the Sasquatch's part as a way to scare you off. You're not going to be running around the forest on your normal hike with a tranquilizer gun to quick-draw at a moment's notice and that animal is definitely not going to let itself be seen for very long.
C) Hunters usually have a habit of NOT shooting the upright, human-shaped things in the woods. Even if it very obviously looks like a Sasquatch, most people would likely hold their fire in case it's an asshole in a suit.
D) Even if you manage to shoot one, do you have a chopper to haul it out? No? Well good luck dragging a 6-10 foot tall, 400-700 pound behemoth out of the woods with nothing but your bare hands.
And finally E) I'd like to at least hope that most people would be hesitant to kill something that looks so much like a human. If you saw a mother and young, could you really bring yourself to killing them?
Any debate is welcome, just be civil.

"Mr & Mrs Napasuk Big Chief East Cape Siberia", depicting a woman and a man posing in front of their camp.
When strong gusts flipped a small plane landing near Teller, on the Seward Peninsula on August 14, 1953, one 50-year-old Inupiaq Eskimo hunter, trapper, and reindeer herder injuring his leg lost all means of support. “No more work, no more hunting,” he said about the event that caused a career change. “Is only way…drawing pictures.” Recovering, James Kivetoruk Moses resumed a teenage habit now leavened by anecdotes, legends, and knowledge accrued over five decades during which the land had taught and sustained him.
At heart, he remained a herder. And modest. Asked about his pictures’ appeal, he admitted lacking refinement. “Young people try to be artists,” he said. “They come up good artists, very good drawing because they were school. But no experience. Don’t know nothing [about] living.”

Untitled, depicting a shaman treating a sick man
In 1975, weakened by strokes and surgeries, Moses, with his wife, Bessie, resided in Nome, a non-Native commercial hub since Yankee-whaler days. Their cabin, abutting the Golden Goose saloon, sat a stone’s throw from black, foam-flecked Bering Strait beaches. Bessie, first acting as his bookkeeper, peddled a briefcase of Moses’ nostalgia at local hotels. She kept a percentage of the profits for herself, she once joked. For an extra five dollars she provided a handwritten summary of the subjects, of routines, beliefs, and a past beyond her clienteles’ ken.

Accompanying this drawing is one of those five dollar handwritten summaries by the artist's wife Bessie, dated August 12, 1975:
"This pretty girl is from N. East Siberia. Her uncle and her folks were well to do family and they came across to our mainland from there every spring after spring to trade more than one skin or whole lot of them come same time all the way to Katzebue. They brought reindeer skins black and spotted skins, wolverines and wolfs skins to trade with all kinds of furs. This girl came with her mother because the father had to take care of their business. She was helpful and good to the people and everybody learn to love her every place. They want to help them on account of her wanting to marry. But since they were traveling the mother + father wouldn't leave her behind being the only girl. Hope the true happening is a good story. So long + good-by By Bessie Moses"

I know this isn't inherently an ask, but I just wanted to say that I recently joined Tumblr just for shits and giggles because, ya know, hellsite- it has its rep, and I figured 'fuck it, why not?' because I'm basically a walking Tumblr post and/or Pinterest cat meme, so like...
That's lowkey unrelated to what I'm wanting to say- just putting the recently joined part out there so maybe you'd understand the anonymous thing... (I talk... WAY too much and am too open a book, I'm so excited and justga hrvrjwvfhwbajfbr- I'm so sorry, bere ["bare"? "bear"? nvm] with me 😭😭)
Anywho, I really love both Sleep Token and Cult of The Lamb, and I've been seeing a few posts here and there of- I'm not sure what you'd call it exactly- those worlds colliding (obviously I follow tags for both consecutively; I would never have expected there to be POSTS FOR BOTH THOUGH???) and it makes me so insanely happy! Finding your page has just
God, it's made me so happy 😭😭 your art is so refreshing and mY GOD, the first piece I saw was your CoTL drawing referencing Atlantic, which is my favorite Sleep Token song (not including singles nor collabs) and from my favorite album (not including eps)- sorry rambling again- and just
AAAAAAAAA /pos
I'm not quite sure if I'm making any sense, I'm honestly just rambling hyperfixatedly (if you couldn't already tell), but now that I've written it all down (which was more or less to get it out of my system without actually hitting 'ask' and/or to thank you for and praise your work), I actually DO have a question:
When I first joined Tumblr, I really just... made a kind of miscellaneous, I guess profile? Blog? Or whatever. lol
I wasn't really planning on doing anything with it, but... seeing people like the things I like- I've never been a social media person. I don't use hardly any, minus, like, Pinterest and a few others, and even then, *I* don't post, so do those even count? But I just feel so inspired??? If that makes sense???
So
I'm thinking about making one dedicated to Sleep Token and CoTL, do you think I should??? I guess I should do it more for me than anyone else, but I'd just
like an outside perspective, ya know??
Thank you! Sorry for the rambling, but if you do answer, just know I GREATLY appreciate it 😭😭😭
Tumblr media
sorry meme response at first because thank u for the accolades! i'm glad you've enjoyed it. as for advice hell yeah i mean if it's something you like then go for it! i'm certainly not the only person drawing cotl/sleep token there's others who rock it!

ok yj band au. i have not come up with a fic title yet. it’s tbd bear (bere? how do you spell it in this context???) w me lol
natalie, van and jackie are in a band called ‘the yellowjackets’. (nat-drummer/songwriter, van-lead singer/songwriter, jackie-guitarist/bassist)
their friend/publicist/manager/something tbd is laura lee bc i didn’t think she’d really be into the band but she wants to work with and support her friends
laura lee’s ex, is model lottie matthews (who she’s still close friends w bc yk. lesbians)
lottie’s close friends w taissa turner, who’s in law school and photographer shauna shipman
the fic is set in the late 80s/early 90s but that’s also pretty tbd. any song written after the year technically does not exist and since i am not a song writer, the ‘original songs’ that the yellowjackets write will 100% just be songs that i like and wanted to put into the fic
for example; they might preform mcr or taylor swift, or something-but the songs and artists will ALWAYS be given credit (i will make a playlist of all the songs in the fic at some point)
there will also be covers of songs that already exist (queen, bowie, maybe nirvana if i do timing right)
ships will include: past lottielee, eventual taivan, lottient and jackieshauna (maybe laura lee and someone i create, who knows!)
other random things;
-ben and paul run a gay bar called ‘the wilderness’ and will be reoccurring characters
-misty/akilah/mari/gen/melissa will show up but prob won’t be big characters
-travis and javi will also be in this, i have an idea for their storyline but i’m gonna keep this one a surprise
-it’s gonna be angsty bc it’s me and i can >:) also bc this is yj so….angst.
-prob multi chapters so i’ll plan for the next week or so and try to start writing and publishing over summer break
-due to the multi ch and length im hoping for it to be, i will not be posting full chapters here on tumblr, but i’ll put up the ao3 link and random snippets
-also, the only instrument ik how to play is the trumpet and i haven’t done that in years. not do ik how law school works. please be advised.

For the ship asks!
what kind of dates do you think Sanvers would go on? (In the canon show, not an AU)
do you prefer Supercorp as an otp, brotp, or notp?
and, because you're relatively new to the ship:
explain why do/don’t ship Bering and Wells
Love these questions!
Sanvers dates: I think Sanvers dates would be relatively uncommon due to their schedules and predilection for hanging out at bars and drinking, which I don't count as a date. I think for Date Night (TM) they would do things like ax throwing, maybe a ridiculously fancy meal once and never again, maybe something like ladies night at a gay bar where they get to dress kinda sexy. I imagine them as more the weekend away or hang at a bar types than a Going on Dates couple.
Supercorp preferences: Supercorp I like as a couple but I am not in a phase of my life where getting invested in a noncanon ship does it for me. Honestly I like them more now that the show is over! So not an OTP but like, a good ship? I dunno what I'd call that.
Bering and Wells: Oh I definitely ship Bering and Wells! They're SO compelling. I mean of course this contradicts what I said about supercorp, lol, but I do think coming to a noncanon ship after the canon ends is different, because what I really can't take is the frustration of seeing a romance play out and the powers that be screaming that it's not happening (while also of course pushing it to the limit for views). So, from this side of the canon, I am absolutely drawn to Myka and Helena's mutual trauma, the ways they keep hurting each other, the way they're both exactly what the other one needs. Also they just keep TOUCHING and the LINGERING GLANCES. But I mean.........has any ship ever come close to Person A wanting to kill literally everyone in the world and then being unwilling to kill Person B and having to abandon their whole plan and going to (noncorporeal) jail for it, simply because she couldn't bear to see Person B die??????? That's love, bitch.
[ship ask list here]

Submitted via Google Form:
How do I have very similar species in multiple niche climates separated across the world? Like having the equivalent of polar bears both at the North and South Poles? Or having camels in every desert in the world? Basically, the climates in between would be unsuitable unless rhe entire geographical map vastly changed but the resulting isolation might lead to even more changes I'm not going for. I mean in real life we have alpacas in South America, they are related to camels but are also too different than camels that I don't want.
Tex: Migration over many thousands and millions of years.
Polar bears are a type of brown bear (Wikipedia), which exist across Eurasia and through the Bering Strait (Wikipedia). American lions are a distinct species descended from the Eurasian cave/steppe lion (Wikipedia). The Felidae family (AKA cats) and Canidae clade (AKA dogs) both exist in nearly all habitable landforms on the planet. Artiodactyls (AKA even-toed ungulates) and Perissodactylae (AKA odd-toed ungulates) exist, in some variation, on nearly all habitable land and some species also in the ocean (see: cetaceans, whales).
Penguins, interestingly, only exist in the southern hemisphere (Wikipedia). The furthest north they will inhabit is Galápagos Island (Wikipedia).
To put this in perspective, say you have a very large book in your hands that has many, many chapters in it that has nearly all information you can think of in existence. If you want to have a Type A story from it, you would mark out certain chapters and read only those. If you want to have a Type B story from it, you would mark out different chapters than A’s and read only those. This marking and reading of only certain chapters is how genetics works (for the most part, in a reductive sense). If you want a tapir, you will mark the chapters that will assemble a tapir, and read only those. If you want a rhinoceros,  you would change, say, the chapters on skin thickness and horn development - both are from the suborder Ceratomorpha, and genetically have minor differences between them.
Genetics is affected by environmental stresses. When, for example, an animal has prey active at night, it will develop nocturnal vision. If an adequate amount of prey shifts from night time to day time, then the animal’s vision will adapt accordingly. Eventually, accumulated adaptations across multiple generations becomes genetic drift, and thus evolution.
This does not mean to say that DNA, RNA, or other reservoirs of inherited experiences will be discarded or disappeared, only that selective environmental pressures will display each generation based upon different stressors. I cannot say for certain that you can turn an alpaca “back into” a camel, but they do have a common ancestor and thus are related by dint of a core, shared genetic code. It’s up to you how much genetic differentiation you have in your species, and how many different environments there are in your world.

Star Names
I have, once again, gotten into Harry Potter fanfiction. To be specific, Rigel Black chronicles recursive fanfiction.
So I'm making my way through wikipedia, going through the constellations and star names, making notes on the ones that are most Given Name-like, ignoring the ones that are after 1980 (quite a few), and noting the ones that might still be too modern/muggle for the Ancient and Most Noble House of Black.
Then I bought a book called Star Names, their Lore and meaning by Richard Hinckley Allen* and went through that. Given how confusing the book is to me, and how it includes poetical names as well as designations, I've marked the beginning of his contributions with *, the end with (RHA).
After all that work, I may as well share it.
Organised by Constellation, the genitive, and sometimes the constellation's abbreviation. Then the names of stars, which I haven't sorted at all. I used the Caelum constellation as a cutoff, which was something like 1756, which cut out suprisingly little compared to the post 1990 cutoff. The IAU has been Busy the last few decades, so many wonderful star names...
