Blank Slate Au - Simon is freed from being Ice King much earlier (early season 3 early) but has lost all memory of who he was and what happened to him.
When he leaves the Ice Kingdom in search of answers and ends up in the Candy Kingdom, he runs into Finn and Jake, who don’t recognise him as the Ice King. Finn is ecstatic to find another human (that he knows is actually human) and swears to help Simon find out about himself while Jake is suspicious at first but ends up going along with them.
Over time, bit by bit, Simon slowly regains his memories, but there’s someone he can’t seem to remember that he misses more than anything…

Consider, if you will, AU (either with canon post-s1 pre-s2 events but D.A.D.D.I.E.S. solves things before season 2 would start, or no Doodler/betrayal but Nicky still has to leave because FBI or other reasons) in which Terry Jr is the full time drama teacher for Teen High. Nicky returns from wherever he's been and is like "Well I want to be an active part of my kid's life and try and make up for lost time. I should go to his parents' evening, find out how he's doing in school, and meet his teachers. Especially this Mr Marlowe guy, Taylor seems to think he's awesome." And walking right into that classroom/hall to find his ex-boyfriend best friend sitting there in a dorky sweater and tie combo
Cue Terry, without missing a beat, greeting them as if nothing is wrong
Internal: when the FUCK did he come back and oh my god this is so awkward fuck I have to be professional how do I tell this guy that his kid is a loveable little shit after everything that's happened oh god oh fuck
Externally: "Hello Taylor and Mr Close-Foster-Freeman. I'm Taylor's drama teacher" *shakes hand* "Would you like to take a seat?"

soooo i finished my second fan binding!!! this is a typeset and binding for Leviticus 20:13 by @melissawritesstuff on ao3. this fic is quite possibly THEE most personally influential fic i’ve ever read, and when i was thinking about what fics i wanted bound, it was a clear priority.
to any krtskist that hasn’t read this fic, i really encourage you to give it a read despite it being discontinued; it’s the fic that made me ship it (as i think it was for many). to anyone that has ever struggled with their sexuality, breaking with organised religion, or fear of the future — regardless of fandom or pairing preference — i cannot recommend this fic highly enough.
i’ve updated my guide and added the typeset to my google drive folder, for anyone interested.
yes, this binding looks suspiciously similar to the first but that’s because materials are $$$ and i am but a humble fan binder… however, i will say, i made improvements on this binding compared to my work on the tctwl bindings. everything lined up better, and it has a much neater text-block and case than the previous ones. it’s gen nice to see that i'm getting better.

so are we just not going to talk about the goncharov manga
because this series was so revolutionary in japan that it still influences artists and writers to this day, like there are major characters you are familiar with who are directly riffing off of the japanese version of goncharov. and this is precisely because the setting translated so perfectly from russian mobsters in 1973 italy to russian mobsters in 1976 japan.
the manga was so successful it even spawned an anime adaptation from 79 to 82 and a series of japanese live-action films from 85 to 89. in fact you probably didn't realize it at the time, but you've likely seen clips from the goncharov anime in late 90s european techno music videos, because it was still a cult favorite and was aired over there well into the 90s.
because this material was much more readily available in the west across europe than in the united states, over here it was an obscure footnote, but in france and italy it inspired a whole generation of filmmakers throughout the 80s and 90s. luc besson has even talked about how leon (the professional here in the states) was inspired by illicit readings of the brutal goncharov manga when he was slightly too young.
in fact you can draw a, well never a *straight* line with goncharov, but a clear path of influence from the original film, through the manga and anime and japanese films, through to the almost apocryphally obscure 1982 italian tv adaptation *of the manga*, through nearly luc besson and jean reno's entire early careers, and on through, even to "modern" works like the hitman games and then of course to *that* film adaptation.
the legacy of goncharov lives on almost invisibly because by this point of course, once it has bled into something like the transporter films, nearly all of the original story has been lost to attrition. but that core premise that still makes the original film so vital, of a man trapped in a brutal and inevitable cycle of violence? that has endured across continents, across mediums, and across generations.
