Anyway. I've said this before but while I am generally critical of communism and the USSR, anticommunism is a far more bleak and disturbing ideology. There is an oft-repeated lie that the Cold War was a conflict between democratic capitalism and authoritarian communism, but you really don't have to look that hard to see how that narrative falls apart - the people the US supported as bulwarks against communism were consistently antidemocratic.
The cognitive dissonance induced by anticommunism was staggering - you have all these US government officials talking about the loathed enemy, unable to really articulate what they were fighting and why, and why they thought the people they were supporting were better, besides their shared opposition to communism.
A particularly stark example of this comes up in this season of Blowback when the CIA director was flirting with a plan to try and get Soviet soldiers to defect. To shoot down the plan, other CIA operatives showed him evidence of Mujaheddin sexual violence against Soviet prisoners, which elicited a response along the lines of "I see your point, there's no way any of the Soviets would ever ally with those subhuman monsters." But those were the same people the CIA were funding, training, and arming!
Even some concept of pro-US campism (support people who are pro-US!) or shared interest in capitalist profits (support people who make the US money!) doesn't hold up - the Islamic fundamentalists were completely uninterested in what the US was selling, except that it furthered their immediate aims!

The USSR boycotting the security council and so missing their chance to veto the US's intervention in the korean war being an official legitimized UN action really has to be an all-time diplomatic own goal.

Stand Where?
After seeing South Africa’s articulate presentation at the IJC in Hague documenting Gaza genocide, and Israel’s Trump-esque make stuff up and throw everything at the wall “defense”, this is obvious: anyone still “Standing with Israel” is either an idiot or a shill. Or both.
You want a world with considerably less “anti-semitic” sentiments?
Be a mensch and persuade your buddies in Israel (at least the 98% of them who support the Gaza “war”) to stop the genocidal blitzkrieg and pull the fuck out, something their parents forgot to do.
Then apologize for war crimes: terrorizing and killing thousands of Palestinians including journalists, and destroying hospitals, libraries, infrastructure, apartment buildings while spinning lies about it.

this 9/11 I'd like to direct anyone who is sick of the patriotic bullshit to season one of the podcast Blowback, in which the events leading up to 9/11 and the Iraq war are discussed without any apologetics for the United States government

“Blowback is a magnificent new weather entity that rises to save the world from Storm's deviant powers and is all too happy to take over as ruler of the skies,” writer Nocenti explains, adding, “Is the creature a savior or villain?” Storm #2 Cover
Kotian adds, “Blowback was super exciting to design! I really wanted to capture his otherworldliness and menace as if can just appear out of the shadows at any time. I can’t wait for fans to see what happens when he goes up against Storm!”(x)

For all that it focuses more than anything on criticizing the US, Blowback really doesn't mince words on the subject of Islamic fundamentalism. The main point seems to be that by funding it and giving it a base in Afghanistan, the US dumped poison into the water supply, and while it worked to kill the Soviets, it also works on everyone else.

Bit of interesting trivia from S3 of Blowback - some Us army/CIA involved in setting up the initial governments of South Korea bemoaning how all the anti-communist people they'd usually tap for it (major landowners, industrialists, senior bureaucrats, etc) had basically necessarily been enthusiastic colonial collaborators with the Japanese, so the only options for the big chair are rabid emigre ultranationalists like Syngman Rhee and how much harder that's making things.
Like, points for self-awareness, I guess?

Made up a guy. This is Blowback. He's a drummer without a band and a lone guy who kills other people. His trigger in his gun alt mode is his spike- he thought it would be fun, but it turns out it's actually an enormous annoyance and a huge pain in the ass, but at this point he's kind of attached to the old mode so he's not going to get it fixed anyway LOL

Dear Children of Israel
Dear Children of Israel:
How many generations after your parents and grandparents were de-humanized and demonized by a Nationalist regime, and barely survived the horrors of the violent, racist, genocidal Holocaust, will you still invoke “never again” [being the progeny of innocent victims of violent racist genocide] while simultaneously perpetuating the horrors of violent racist genocide against generations of innocent Palestinians?
“Never again” is a most worthwhile reminder, except that this time, you are the “again.”
Did your compassion and empathy also die in Der Fuhrer’s bunker?
Does your religion have a cult-ish erroneous delusion that the Palestinians are re-incarnated Nazis and by acting out the shadow aspects of your inter-generational trauma, you are somehow serving just desserts to those souls, projecting on them a cult-ish belief that you are children of light and they are children of darkness?
Does your inter-generational trauma, pain, rage leave you so blind that you cannot see that the violent racist genocide you have been perpetuating on generations of Palestinians will echo through multiple future generations, to be endlessly repeated, all in the name of some religion or another, even if you manage to finish the job as your tormentors, the Nazis, failed to do, by exterminating them?
When will the madness end?
Right now, the madness stops with YOU.
