These are the days where I desperately wish I had a tailors mannequin, because demonstrating this lariat/wrap necklace in photos is a challenge. I hope it's kind of understandable. This assemblage art lariat necklace was created using lost and found objects with strange histories. The carved bone part was originally a souvenir Stanhope (a viewfinder of microscopic size pictures) from the late 19th or early 20th Century and was most likely a dip ink pen. Unfortunately, both the Stanhope part and the pen part are missing but we are left with a uniquely decorated ox bone antique treasure with stunning carvings. In the same dusty box of weird treasures I found a hand carved bone awl or fid (maybe Victorian or Edwardian) that would have been used in needlework, tapestry or for making holes in leather. It seemed natural to keep these two objects together and when I found a 1920's Art Deco broken mother of pearl chain which is a lengthy 44 inches long (and 109 beads in total!), it all seemed to work together as a lariat or wrap necklace. I did play with the idea of having chains or sari silk coming out of the Stanhope, but it was all toooooo much. While it was hard to reign in the "let's over do this!" I think I quite like the simplicity of neutral colour tones working together.
