Little doodle of two of my favorite blorbos from my books, Johannes Cabal and Jonathan Harker.
Johannes Cabal and the series named after him is the first and only book series I've read and loved in its entirety. 100/10 if you like cagey necromancers, jovial vampiric siblings, alternate timeline period pieces with devilish and eldritch elements, and an ongoing thread of humor cutting through the horrors. (Also, look up the digital short stories!)
Johannes himself is very, very different in temperament compared to Jonathan...apart from certain matters of the heart and what each man will resort to for the sake of love. For the purposes of the above image, I expect they have a common enemy on that front. Or at least some irritating party trying to take over and/or end the world or whatever, ughhh. Always something.

So Lovecraft was its name.
PLOT: Basically what if Bram had already seen Lovecraft many times before? They're both old mfs so have this
Not a ship but you can take it as one :3
☆°`~
Bram swears he's seen that person before.
He just... can't put a finger on it.
There's this man- or, something else, Bram assumes- that's sitting under a tree, fast asleep. Tall, gaunt, clearly exhausted and basically passed out. He's slouched over and not even making a sound.
That's already odd enough, for someone to be fast asleep in public under a tree. Understandable, Bram thought, but that's not even the weirdest thing about this person.
He swears he's seen him before. Seen it before.
Not the appearance, no, not at all. He'd felt this aura in front of him centuries ago, though. One that held lazy charm to it but held such cryptic knowledge, too. Bram stepped forward, feeling as if he were subconsciously moving instead of willingly making the decision to get closer.
This... thing, whatever it was, could not have been human. Its hair seemed damp and almost greasy yet it seemed clean instead of filthy. Looking closer at its skin, it seemed pale, with a cool undertone to it. If he squinted harder, Bram could see slight scales on the skin, as if the creature were like a fish. It would make sense, the vampire supposed, since the other seemed to smell like saltwater and seaweed.
What is this thing?
A few decades ago this exact aura had been felt. Bram had spotted a man with long blond hair with the same slight dampness to it, although Bram assumed the stranger was just dirty. It would be the most logical explanation, with how the blond was always slouched over and tired-looking despite the work he did. After finishing his job- whatever he had to do- Bram never saw him in that city again.
Another time was a few centuries ago. Bram had talked to a fisherman by the shore. It was dark and the dim light of the lantern did not illuminate the fisherman's face, but Bram was fascinated nonetheless. Despite being a supposed fisherman, the man did not have the right equipment, nor know how to use them. Bram had not gotten his name.
The oldest time Bram could recall was more centuries ago. He was resting near the ocean, not paying mind to anyone, until he had heard footsteps. A small yet still visible silhouette, walking, as if having come from the ocean despite not being wet at all. Bram had gotten up to ask someone about the odd figure, but when he got back to shore, the figure was gone, as if never there.
Bram had seen this thing many times, and it was always near the ocean or another body of water.
Snapped out of his train of thought, a farmer simply walked up to the sleeping figure and had woken him up.
"Lovecraft, buddy, you slept again."
The creature seemed a bit disappointed he was awoken, but he nodded silently. He did not speak, simply standing up- still slouching- and following the farmer to whatever they were going to do.
"Who was that, bud?" The farmer asked the taller man, looking back for a moment.
The creature did not speak once again. He shrugged his shoulders but showed no interest in the vampire watching him with morbid fascination.
Bram stayed silent as he watched the two walk off. He closed his eyes for a moment, turning the other way to walk and go his own path.
So Lovecraft was its name.

Latest HPB haul
Silly me, I went back to Half Price Books, this time armed with a 10% off coupon. Spent even more than last time anyway. 😭
I'm not sure whether I already had some of these titles in the collected works (I have bought at least one book from the series before), so before I bought these, I made sure to ask about the return policy. It's very important that I find my "missing" boxes of books soon, so that I can get a refund, if I find out I have some repeats.
Since I'm not sure about extra copies, I left the price tags on. In case I forget and start removing all the tags, I didn't remove any just yet. But I don't want to showcase prices, so I've censored the tags.
HPB used random boxes they had laying around, since I bought so many books (and Giant Microbes).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here's the contents of the Xerox box:
Tumblr media
Some "Gothic Fantasy" and "Epic Tales" collector volumes; a nice set of Frankenstein, Dracula, and Poe stories; a box set of F. Scott Fitzgerald; a funny cookbook I actually hope to use pretty soon; a human anatomy stamp set; and some Giant Microbes: DNA, RNA, Zombie Virus, and two Brain Cells. Had to get two... so I can rub them together.
And the contents of the "Lou Goodman" box:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I probably have the vast majority of the "Gothic Fantasy" series from that collection now and several of the "Epic Tales" series. I know for certain that I already have Christmas Gothic Short Stories from that "Gothic Fantasy" Series. Oh, and looks like I now have at least one from their "Classic Stories" series. 🤔 Good grief, how many books did they publish like this? 😅 They-- they don't even all fit on one of my shelves... and I'm sure I still don't have the entire collection. 😭 Anyway, these books don't have dust jackets, and they are super shiny.
The Virgil book is also jacketless and very shiny; that one and all these other shiny ones are published by Flame Tree.
The Alchemist goes along with a collection I bought some of last time I went to HPB -- Chartwell Classics, I think. The Jonathan L. Howard books (soft covers) just look like a really fun read. And I'm excited to have this lovely copy of A Study in Scarlet with a bunch of illustrated contextual information, even though I probably have a basic copy of the story in an old "Sherlock" collection, like one I saved from my parents' house. For protection, they sell it in a thick clear plastic dust jacket; I guess it's something that publisher just... does. 🤷🏻‍♀️
Anyway, that's the haul.
Now to do my best to just plain avoid stepping inside a HPB for a while... like the rest of the year. 😮‍💨 😅

Howard: now if me an' my boys tangled with a posse of bigfoots, we'd give em a taste of the ol' pea shooter Keene: yeah but see, there's a lot of bigfoots Keene: way too many to shoot Howard: i ain't a-bothered, i'm a fast draw Howard: [twirling six shooter] possibly the fastest
JRR Tolkien: hello lads King: JRR Tolkien! what are YOU doing here? Tolkien: well i head something about Tolkien: BIG FEET Tolkien: big HAIRY feet perhaps? Tolkien: big hairy SMELLY feet? Tolkien: big gross hairy smelly feet with fur????
