Gangreen headcanons
These have zero order or anything it's just a few HCs I have
Skip past Billy's if you don't wanna read like a lot of stuff
Big Billy
He's only half cyclops
His mom is a human
And his dad was a cyclops
But he had two eyes (this is totally possible, ty genetics lessons)
Since his dad didn't really look like a monster and wasn't THAT big he lived in Townsville for a while
Hence how he met Billy's mom
She didn't know at first but didn't mind when she found out
They got married maybe and lived on Monster Isle
But before Billy was born or soon after his dad died so they never met
Billy's mom definitely took amazing care of him though and stayed on Monster Isle
So he had a great childhood
Until he was around ten and he just sort of wondered off (cyclops thing)
He ended up in Townsville
Sadly he has no clue where his mom is
Otherwise he would visit her
She however is in the same place
So a reunion is possible if he ever remembers where his house is
He's super self conscious btw (thinks the gang doesn't care about him but they do)
He loves animals, mostly fluffy ones
HAD a secret pet cat but after a while she passed
She was pretty old and died in her sleep
He took amazing care of her and was inconsolable when he realized she was gone
When he starts crying nothing can stop him
Except sleeping or food
He's the only one who can properly cook
He met Arturo before the met the others

It doesn't matter who you are if he decides to hug you you'll get hugged

Which is how he met Billy (and later the gang)
He's not allowed to have caffeine of any sort

If you ask how he got his violin he'll tell you a different way every time (bought it, found it, stole it, ect.)

And he gives the others tutoring lessons sometimes do they aren't too dumb
But they don't know that's what it is

Ace found the shed when he was a kid and it was the only place he knew no one would bother him at
So that's where he started living
Surprisingly he doesn't just like rock

He's also very handy
If he wasn't a known criminal he could probably make an honest living building stuff

But in reality they were horrible
In everyway you can think
After they had another kid, a little girl
They got way worse to him
And we're never bad to the girl because bruises on her would look suspicious
They also just really didn't like Snake sadly
One day his sister told him their parents were going to kick him out
It was a joke but he didn't know that
So he packed and left on the day she said they'd do it
He's got an irrational fear of egales (probably his sister's fault)
He goes by he/they pronouns
But probably hasn't told anyone
He's super good at art
He loves gaming
It doesn't even matter what game it is he'll play it and love it
Probably rage quits and breaks arcade games though
In the winter he definitely hordes the gangs entire blanket supply
And bundles up so much he looks a little silly
His speech impediment gets worse when he's scared or really really angry
But he very rarely ever gets angry
He considers Ace his best friend
He has a fat crush on Ace
And probably babies Arturo the most
Not that he isn't hardcore
He's pretty cold (emotionally)
Usually not to the gang though
He wears makeup
Not much though, usually just his lipstick
And he gets high on a daily basis
It's only when he runs out of weed that he'll stop smoking for like weeks to a month
Just for a break
Then go back too it
He's not a hugger
BUT
If someone hugs him he'll accept it
He's had multiple piercings
A lot are closed now
Most he gave himself
He gives the other gang members piercings if they ask

"i love how all the true names in loveless are like….. ironic to some degree? it’s especially interesting considering how much the series focuses on the power of language, both literally and metaphorically //🧵 (spoilers btw)
like with beloved, seimei is such a loathsome human being that basically any of the people who actually knew him, if they liked him, were being manipulated into doing so. nisei on the other hand, is not beloved at all; he thinks seimei loves him, i believe, but he doesn’t and is in fact being manipulated by him as everyone else was as well. the one person who does love him, mimuro, he pushes away and keeps at a distance; he cannot accept real love. with fearless, both mei and mimuro are very wrapped up in their insecurities; mei about their gender, and mimuro about his sexuality.
mimuro in particular is interesting in that his tragic character flaw is that he can’t quite accept his feelings for nisei, and had he been able to pursue that relationship with nisei, perhaps nisei wouldn’t have fully given himself to seimei’s manipulation in his time of isolation and wouldn’t have done those horrible things in his name.
the zeros are rather obvious and somewhat directly addressed in the text; they are in fact, many and full of feelings and self determination; they are not interchangeable; they are not meaningless.
breathless i think are somewhat vague and esoteric, but the best i can say is that they in fact breathe life into the series; they are the first, the initiation into the world of spell battles, as well as the introduction to seven voices and they are the first to change their tune about soubi’s foray into self determination as ritsuka’s fighter, breathing life into the idea that people can change, and for the better too.
bloodless, with what little we have of them, i would wager something to the effect of hideo’s original fighter having been slaughtered and yurio, as a blank, having had his name literally carved into him; their pasts are obviously quite bloody.
moonless is interesting and abstract in a way similar to breathless imo; “moonless” conjures up the idea of darkness of a light source gone or shrouded, however they are extremely illuminating in one of the main themes of the series, which is sexual violence. mikado turns the series on its head, revealing seimei’s true nature to some degree (the moon shines brightest in the dark, but it can still be difficult to see everything, even during a full moon; it is impossible to know everything about everyone and their true motivations) in a textual sense, but in a meta-textual sense she confronts the reader to examine what they’ve been enjoying about the series. the abuse that many readers found appealing because it’s taboo, or since it’s male on male it allows them to escape into a fantasy where gendered violence seems far away… how far away is that truly? it’s not so fun and fantastical when it happens to a girl, barely older than the boy it was happening to mere volumes ago. suddenly it’s all too real and the language of sexual violence surrounding the series is taken to its logical conclusion. what is the point of this? who is this for? who set you up to think this was okay, to think this enjoyable? how is what happened to ritsuka any less real or horrifying than what happened to mikado? she doesn’t demand anything more than a reason, and the reason is clear: there was no reason. she was abused because her abuser wanted to. nothing more, nothing less. the clarity moonless offers into the way the series examines its core theme of how the things we want to see and the things we say have power is genuinely incredible.
moving on, i have basically nothing to say about sleepless as they are basically non-characters, but i guess if chibizero really did off them well. they are Sleepin with the fishes…… not so sleepless now, eh? (ironic laugh track plays) and finally….. loveless.
i am going to tentatively include soubi here as he has sort of. self identified into the name by acting as fighter to ritsuka, but anyway: soubi’s entire character arc revolves around him acquiring love— that is, self love, learning that he has value and the right to self determination. even in a world that is so very cruel and hurtful to him, learning to value himself and see others as people is a core tenet of his character, it’s the development he is fighting for, tooth and nail despite setback after setback. ritsuka loves him for him and that is where he begins to draw his inner strength from to get better as a person and begin to self actualize; soubi is loved.
ritsuka on the other hand is told how horrid his name is; loveless, one without love, but eventually it is revealed that it has a more specific meaning; one who is not tied down (by relationships etc.). i believe this is because at the end of the day ritsuka will find power in just such a thing, rejecting the abuse that is levied upon him in the name of love; whether this is from seimei (and by proxy soubi) or his mother, his right to self determination and to reject these falsehoods is his and his alone. “loveless”, a name once dreaded and filled with sorrow and isolation, becomes empowering, reinforcing the theme of the power of language and the way we use it. loveless is a story about language and systemic injustice, and the way the words we speak hold up and enforce systems of power, just or unjust. i truly wish for it to be re-examined as the thoughtful piece of artwork that it is, problematic as some aspects may be. that and for yun kouga to fucking finish the goddamn thing we are at four years without a new chapter and i am going to fucking die like this. oh my god."

before I sleep and disappear from social media because of work I would like to share this most wonderful piece of evergrace fanart I found the other day

it was so good that I wrote a 500 word essay about it. here you go
okay so i was freaking about this to cookie earlier so my heart is prepared to make a 500 word essay to this right here right now. the kindness, the sweetness, and the extremely important dynamic of "darius and sharline sitting on a rock together" is the world's most wonderful treasure, a callback to the official evergrace art…. but that one had sharline sitting on the grass beside the rock, so this is infinitely better, plus sharline cutely leaning much more against darius. this is already very lovely and shows her charm of being a pushy and caring big sister.
and of course who can forget little baby darius in the front. i love the addition of him being here, as someone who's always like "hmm… how can i incorporate the Scrunkly into group drawings" there he was. my heart…. the glow and translucency of his appearance leads me to think, is this perhaps like demon darius, a temporary reincarnation that is simply happy to know that they will have a happy ending after all? or maybe it's a reflection of darius's inner emotions = bursting with happiness? awwwww. either way, thank you for including the little baby scrunkly
and also how he sits right in front of where you'd see darius and sharline's hands :) clever composition, allusion to fromsoftware's way of making lore just vague enough out of reach but enough to help you form some conclusions.. or is it? either way it makes you want more. and that's sure what the game did to me. the ambiguity…. the mystery…. oh but they're holding hands for sure. btw. or else why would darius be looking away trying to hide his red face with his hand…. his moe ass i need to squeeze him like a stress toy…. for this once i give it the benefit of the doubt okay. let this man experience human affection
lastly, i think this is so charming, but the composition and background of the image… the always incredible sunset orange world of evergrace is very much present in this piece. the grassy fields, the rocks, the autumn scenery. 100% i have zero complaints and it's perfection. i would like to draw special attention to the lovely touch of darius's scarf fluttering in the wind… it's long huh. that reminds me of this one chapter in Maiko-san chi no Makanai-san/kiyo in kyoto where a red scarf literally connected the three childhood friends together… okayyy maybe there was a love triangle intermixed with platonic love so maybe not that. but you know what i'm talking about. fated meetings. bros for life. that kind of thing. at the very least, having darius's scarf cross over to sharline's side of the composition makes a very nice completeness to the piece. perfect triangular composition with the nosey cute imbalance of sharline, the "oh god he's so moe i have to bite this bitch" darius, the happiness of the little baby darius…. peace in the heart. you understand why i slapped my fucking bed with such a lovely piece. thank you OP. thank you so much

I swear i thought i replied to some of your questions a few days ago but i’m starting to think that I might’ve forgotten to and now i feel bad. But to summarize it: When we first started watching, he thought that Gale looked a little bit like Ashton Kutcher (but older version) and it was the funniest thing ever to me. He did only talk about it in the pilot though. Btw I am more and more tempted to later on give him Gale’s out of the box interview to watch. Or Randy’s podcast. He has been asking me about the actors a lot lately and if they still act and where are they and if theyre all still friends and I’m avoiding answering because well, one of them abandoned his podcast and the other one we dont even know if he’s still alive until we get a new photo. But I do wonder how he will react when he finds out Gale is straight ngl because right now he fully thinks Gale is gay irl.
Also yes, he has been going on and on about Brian’s growth and how he’s changed since he clocked it around 4th episode. He is so happy that he’s growing and allowing himself to be happy and in love even if he doesn’t want to admit it, that i just know the second 5x01 will start, he will have a mental breakdown and it will be very valid of him.
Your celebrities/therapist story actually made me curious now because how can a celeb that is well known, even get a therapist then without weirdness. I had no clue this was kind of a thing. And yes! My brother would absolutely launch into a discussion about Gale without shame, he’d have pictures and everything ready for it. I mean his confidence when it comes to talking to literally anyone about anything in his life (usually interests and shit he’s done thats funny to him or in this case the show) is impressive as fuck but also for an innocent bystander like me? actually a nightmare to be around that. He truly doesn’t give a single fuck and has zero shame and all the confidence in the world and idk how he does it. He just tells anyone who will listen (not in a trauma dumping type of way but like his interests and such? No shame) to give an example: when he was in high school he made an entire poster presentation for his class to talk about his love for the movie School of Rock and HE DID IT BY SINGING A FAKE ROCK N ROLL SONG (id give anything to remember the lyrics). Mind you, the presentation was supposed to be about current events in politics/world and School of Rock came out like a year or two prior. So you best believe he would do the exact same for Gale or more importantly QAF/Brian/Britin. And as someone who does shy away from talking about qaf just because it is a lot, he on the other hand truly gives zero fucks. Because when we started watching the show, he was fully explaining to the nurses/doctors/anyone that listened(our parents!!!) about how the show is AND HOW BRITIN MET! He TALKED ABOUT THE RIM JOB! I NEVER EVEN FUCKING TOLD YALL THAT! HE TALKED TO OTHER HUMANS ABOUT THE RIM JOB! AND HE WAS FULLY EXPLAINING IT bc he was shocked and surprised at how they filmed it and couldn’t figure out if that meant gale really did do it or not. So if you ever feel like maybe you’ve overshared about something you like and it keeps you up at night. Fear no more because my brother has for sure shared even more and has zero regrets about it.
It is hard to believe Gale is straight because he is that good of an actor and just went fully into the role and really thought deeply about who Brian is. Ugh it hurts my heart to think about just because it’s so full of appreciation for Gale and Randy.
I think you could show him any media that was released while the show was airing. But maybe avoid anything more current? Until he’s done and his heart is broken. He is going to be so upset by all the back pedaling in s5. Which is the correct reaction.
(I kinda love how as a fandom we’re like this is on the writers because Brian would never. Justin would never.)
I have a specific approach I take when I have celebrity clients and I think I could be a therapist to someone I’m a casual fan of. I could never be a therapist to someone I’m actively in a fandom for. I would have to leave the fandom, for starters.
HE TOLD PEOPLE ABOUT THE RIMMING SCENE!?! Oh my god. Anon you have to at least have him listen to Randy’s podcast episode about bottoming where he essentially said that Justin was too naive to do any prep and therefore someone experienced would have never rimmed him without making him at least shower first.

Couples “out of the way first”???? My god, you are just fucking gross....and no, we know for a fact, Jabi are “rock solid” thru, again, at least 19.....2 or 3 eps later. And LBR, the reason you want it in the musical? Is because the last two musical eps were abysmal for your ship.....and you want a romantic Jizzy duet, cuz you think you were “cheated”.

This bothers me so much but it gives me an excuse to talk more about what people seem to constantly let slip their mind.

Remember the White fang Started out as a faction that fought against racism, stealing dust and stuff from the schnee who straight up using slave labor, so they took what the faunus worked for.
People seem to act like revolutions don’t come with great change and sacrifice, people who act as if none of the milestones we made didn’t come with some sort of alteration to the world state being MLK’s assassination which Caucasians did despite peaceful protest and definitely not as long as the faunus have.
The faunus have remained commendably peaceful for the 80+ years of humans murdering because as one of the shows heroes Qrow Brawen stated. “Early man was scared to death of faunus and it’s hard not to sympathize with that. Seeing someone that looks like you and acts like you walk out the forest and reveal a set of fangs can be alittle upsetting.” (again these are based off our real world minorities mainly black people so this line comes across as massively tone-deaf There were so many words you could of used instead; it didn’t have to be word like “Lol I relate to humans being scared.” And before anyone gets on my case literally salem and Ozpin word their WOR as a conversation which is canon straight from Miles Luna’s mouth.

Yeah the part people constantly forget was that cinder fall took over the white fang to use for their canon fodder, and the show had a great many an opportunity to show that either Adam didn’t like or want to do this, Surviving and defecting faunus that only joined for equality would leave and either try to live normal lives or join other branches..OTHER BRANCHES (seriously the only branch Sienna had was in vale and there weren’t any in atlas to help with the slave effort, and we’ve yet to see vacuo and it’s weird there’s no successor in case Sienna was assassinated? My point is that Cinder made the fauns do most of the more shitty things on her behalf, using her maiden powers and her....weirdly overpowered non semblance man and girl with the most useless semblance ever. (At least by the show’s standards) successfully kill these trained soldiers is a bit....hard to believe. And not to mention in the picture above Adam isn’t a raging racist who wants all humans dead, in fact he lets cinder and them go, tells them to leave and he doesn’t send a guy to shoot them in the back, he just goes about his day.
Were they’re people probably caught in the crossfire? yes but at the same time did people think any revolution didn’t have any sacrifices? I’m not saying Adam had to blow up those faceless nameless humans on that train where you only see robots making that line seem like they were going. “wait but if we make the bad guy faction a group of minorities wanting equality then people might RELATE to them and root for them and see our heroes as bad when then beat them up and laugh and wink about it and toss them off trains into hoards of grimm!” So they just threw in a buzzword terrorist, cult and not people who have been fighting racism for multiple lifespans.
For the love of god when Ozma comes back to remnant the first thing he sees is Faunus already in cages so why are THEY terrorist for trying to fight a system that’s so awful that when they got a god reboot the first thing that happened was one of our “heroes” Ozpin who didn’t to crap to change things for the faunus and humans were already subjugating them! Remnant is an unsympathetic world where the heroes watch racism happen and go on actual racist rants in public WEISS SCHEE and then will apologize 8 seasons later, like you needed multiple months to a year to not be racist.
Nothing in Remnant is salvageable, the humans are the absolute worst to their mostly human companions; and I wanna finish this off with something. In real life we sexualize portions of animals, Wearing collars, Bunny or cat ears, tails, angel wings, devil wings etc.
The humans in remnant are stupid cause no horny ass middle-aged man is gonna see a beautiful man or woman with wings sitting there and not wanna tap or worship that.
In real life people wouldn’t be hating Velvet for her bunny ears, they’d be obsessed with them!
I went off on a bit of a tangent but Fighting for your rights is not what a terrorist does and great change never happened from sitting on your hands and waiting patiently, women’s rights, black civil rights moment, LGBT’s stonewall and so on, they’re a movement, a struggle and lampshade that as a terrorist organization is TONE DEAF, IGNORANT AND PLAIN STUPID of you.
We’re smarter than this please actually research any major moment and see how many marginalized people lose their lives in comparison to the white ones and you won’t be shocked how the scale tips towards the prejudiced people.

4x10 and 4x11 Thoughts
Doing the bare minimum after being a parent for 13 years is not impressive. And I can't believe they are trying to equate doing that with Beth's years as an involved & active SAHM. (Gasp! Dare I defend Beth? Will I get my hater mantle taken away? I've said over & over that Beth's character has suffered the most from the shit writing. I truly have no idea how Beth stans think the show is good when every season Beth—as a character—gets worse & worse. And often because she is written at the expense of male characters.) And he's not a good dad. He's still fun dad (and also gross Dad. Who the fuck puts syrup on pancakes until right before you eat them?!?!?!). Giving his young children containers of Oreos (and encouraging them to lie to their mother) and risking their stability by again making shitty financial/business choices. Oh, and good dad (and good mom) are preparing to flee from prosecution and—I guess—just live on the run forever. Super great childhoods they're planning for their kids.
I was not at all clamoring for a Dean & Rio scene. Like ever. Luckily, it wasn't that bad. There was no swordfighting over Beth. And Dean got to see how Beth interacts with Rio (she talks to him with that haughty annoyed tone) which helps him to finally realize (JUST LIKE BETH TOLD HIM IN 1x6!) that Beth does this because she wants to not because the evil moose forces her.
Dorothy built her own store and career and none of the girls give a millisecond of thought to stealing the press. And that's after they've spent months using her store for illegal activities. Oh, and the obvious culprit when (if? because who knows with this show) Dorothy calls the police is going to be the former employee with multiple brushes with the law. But, great plan.
And, ugh, of course the girls are shocked that Diane & friends expect to be paid. They've only been doing this for years. Why would they learn anything? BTW, don't think I missed Beth mocking Krystal's voice. Where all the anti-misogynists at?
Breckin Meyer plays a really good creep. And someone actually did some research; because creeps make connections by being super tactile. I hate this MRA/MLM story. Why does it exist? Why is Vance at Dean's meeting with the lawyer? Is there some sort of budding cult leader/acolyte confidentiality?
So Stan is now getting directly supplied by the purse connect. Presumably the "Woman in Room 216." But why would she work with them? Weeks after she gets involved with Gene, he gets busted and spilled everything. So why would anyone in the criminal world work with Stan who was seen out & about as Gene's right hand? Why does Stan have access to the strip club? What about the "he" that owns the club that Gene mentioned? We know the city seized it and is going to auction it, but they don't just let people come in & out in the meantime; especially when it was a place used for illegal activity. Why does the show think this is unimportant to address but Dean montages are needed?
Ruby is all the way fucked up in this whole stupid Beth vs Stan nonsense (Reason #763 why she needs Black friends and it's super sus that she doesn't have any). She wasn't being neutral AT ALL and she was more on Beth's side for no reason than fake drama. Stan is probably the character we've seen undergo the most on a spiritual/moral/existential level. Ruby started at a similar place from him, but she at least went in knowing she was doing whatever she had to for Sara. Stan didn't find things out until the Hills were already in it. He's had multiple conversations with Ruby about what all this has done to him. He's calibrated his worldview of right & wrong. And for Ruby to tell him to "take the high road" was a slap in the face. Beth told Ruby she lied to Stan and Ruby was still on her side. Also, Stan was totally justified in what he said to Beth but the show is going to align him with Dean to neutralise the truth of his words. (I mean, the fact that he's a Black man has already been enough for people to say he's being "mean" to Beth.) And Beth yelling at Ruby to not defend Stan? No. Nope. That white woman needs to mind her own house.
The Kevin storyline is stupid & gross. First they used him to portray Annie's rock bottom. I don't know, having sex with your married ex while his wife is pregnant is more rock bottom to me. As is trying to fuck with your therapist's fiancée for funsies. And then he knows stuff about lacrosse, so suddenly he has some worth. Not because he's a human being. It's all incredibly offensive. But to have Annie, who has seen firsthand the problem with food waste and has been shown to have zero issues with Ben's transition (Not that she should have any. Just that it is a very, very common narrative for parents who will say they love their children to still express concern about how difficult life will be for them. And then they have some learning moment and credits.), be this judgmental character? It's plot > character again. And Annie has to start having feelings for him. Because, of course.
Ugh the casino. Just like the strip club fake bachelorette party, the writers just had an idea for a "fun" scene and did it regardless of how stupid. See the girls are always unlucky except in this moment when they need to be. Isn't that the most clever thing ever? Casinos monitor everything (Ruby actually points this out, which makes it worse) and the girls were acting completely suspicious. They would have for sure drawn attention. And then we have the added stupidity of the timeline being fucked with again to make a "clever" line work. Moments/twists/scene > plot > character. Always. The background actors in the scene were really earning their checks, tho.

Long story short, I have been thinking about this for wayyyyy too long now and wanted to get some ~thoughts~ & analysis written down! This post is going to be...fairly long, lol. Apologies in advance :D

This post is probably going to be about 2/3 yorknew & phantom troupe/kurapika focused, 1/3 chimera ants, maybe with some references to other arcs (including manga-only arcs) mixed in. so, ofc, tons of spoilers ahead! also, i realize that my blog theme is hard to read (and i’m p sure clicking ‘keep reading’ sends you to the og post itself), so i’m linking the post w/ full text copy/pasted in on my art backup side blog (which has a more legible font) here.
✶ 𝐃𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐇
I’m sure absolutely nobody is surprised with me starting here - there is just. SO. MUCH. DEATH. in hxh. & right from the start, one thing I noticed that togashi really emphasized was the #4 and its connection to death. in japanese, chinese, and im p sure some other asian cultures the number 4 is pronounced like the word for death so it’s associated with death in general, and boy oh boy does the ‘deadly number 4′ thing show up E V E R Y W H E R E. we get to the hunter exam, and hisoka is applicant #44. kurapika is #404. i didn’t notice it at first, but this was so intentional holy shit. togashi is NOT SUBTLE.
So pika & hisoka are, right off the bat, associated with death. okay. and then there are even more clues to drive the point home: hisoka is member #4 in the phantom troupe, kurapika’s birthday is april 4th (aka 4/4). 100% not a coincidence (!!). with hisoka, it’s pretty obvious why togashi’s throwing all this death 444444 stuff around - dude is a psycho murder pedo clown, literally gets off on killing people (and there’s also the fact that judas sits 4th from the left in the last supper painting, and he’s sort of the judas equivalent for the phantom troupe). with kurapika, though, it’s a bit more subtle and woven deeper into his characterization, which i LOVE. togashi puts the mans in blue & gold & white (traditionally ‘pure’ or ‘heavenly’ colors), makes him so fucking kind & so good-hearted.....when he’s not relentlessly pursuing his revenge, ofc. more on this in the next section, but pika = death. togashi has made that v v v clear.
Backtracking a bit to hisoka, though, I also just wanted to point out the 4 is death symbolism in the fortunes too (GOD i love the fortunes): in one translation, he’s the false fourth moon, and in the og japanese (i think), he’s the false hare (4th in the lunar zodiac or w/e it’s called. i don’t know the japanese cultural influences here, but in the chinese legend that established the zodiac animals, they race across the heavenly river & the top 12 animals got zodiac slots. the hare finished 4th, so it’s #4 in the cycle).
And just as a final note, Tserriednich is the fourth prince of the kakin empire, and also another dude who has a hard-on for murder & other gory shit. again: togashi is not subtle with this, lmfao
✶ 𝐇𝐎𝐋𝐘, 𝐔𝐍𝐇𝐎𝐋𝐘
As probably everyone who’s gotten to yorknew knows, togashi is so 0 fucks given when he wants to be. I mean there’s the whole thing where he just. took New York and decided, Yorknew. LMFAO, but also, he made the main antag of that arc be named chrollo lucilfer, sit around in a ruined church, have a reversed cross coat, pale & dark-haired/dark-eyed, generally dressed in dark colors, very terrible murder guy. liiiike......chrollo x devil symbolism game is 1000/10 at this point lmaooo
And i know absolutely nothing about christianity in general, but pt/kurapika & yorknew arc is just so full of christian imagery/symbolism! one thing that i L O O O O O O V E though is how togashi really blurs the traditional christian-coded good/evil, holy/damned boundaries.
Back to kurapika: he wears gold and blue, his coloring is very stereotypically ‘angelic’, he’s precious and good and kind. his chains are all about ~judgment~ and ~healing~ - some of the chains are also in literal cross shapes, aren’t they? And the chain dagger in his own heart...the imagery is very startlingly similar to the immaculate heart of mary, where the swords stabbing thru the heart apparently represent seven sorrows. IDK much about this stuff other than the visual similarities; literally had to google ‘daggers through heart christianity?’ to even get the name of that thing LOL. anyway, at first, it seems like togashi establishes him as the ‘angel’, the ‘good’, the ‘holy’ in the angel/devil, good/evil, holy/damned dichotomy between him and chrollo.
But that’s not the end of the story. his entire storyline is driven by a huuuuuuuge giant desire for vengeance, first of all, and then there’s the scarlet eyes, which canonically are seen as demonic/cursed/what have you (according to one of the movies or smth? where they show pika as a 10 y/o?), and then we also have red eyes in modern culture being associated w pretty much the same thing (vampires, anyone?). the fight scene with uvo has everything in b&w besides the blood on his face & his red eyes & the moon (<<< more fortune foreshadowing & symbolism, i love to see it), and there are tonssss of scenes where he has to suppress his rage. so all of that is obviously not very angelic of him i would say LOL. in fact, what i find super interesting is that the scarlet/red eyes (which are ‘demonic’) is actually the driving factor behind his super powerful nen abilities; this ties in so well with the fortunes & death associations imo! the fortunes call him the ‘death-bringer’ in one translation, or ‘half-angel, half-death’, so that’s one side of pika = red eyes = death, but there’s also the fact that emperor time is literally draining his life force. so pika = death for both himself and others namely the pt, question mark?
Now for chrollo: togashi’s devil symbolism is EXTREMELY overt with him, but i love the subtler jesus references too. the church thing, obviously, and the st. peters cross which is cuz st peter respected jesus too much & didn’t think he was worthy to die in the same way as him (or something like that, i am the most atheist person in the world & hxh is literally my entire christian education pls) but is also used as an anti-christianity symbol these days. bandit’s secret looks like a bible, lbr, and mans has a cross tattoo.
Other things beyond visuals - 12 spiders, 12 apostles; hisoka’s betrayal, where member #4 can be thought to correspond to judas sitting 4th from left at last supper. and this miiiiight be a bit of a stretch, but i think the meteor city being the place of origin may also play into the blurred line between angel/devil and holy/damned here; meteors are defined as space rocks that are in earth’s atmosphere, becoming incandescent in the process. meteorites are for the kinds that actually reach the ground. and idk, lucifer was cast out of heaven / sky too right? so i think there might be some subtle fallen angel imagery/symbolism playing into the pt as well
✶ 𝐋𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓 (𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐃𝐀𝐑𝐊𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐒)
Last section yay! i don’t have as much to say about this, besides when i was making chimera ant arc edits & realized that there might have been some subtle gon/meruem parallels???
So obviously, everyone knows that line killua says to gon - “you are light” - and then i was just remembering that meruem’s name means.... “light that illuminates all” (!!!!). maybe it’s a coincidence, but knowing togashi, i’m leaning towards nahhhh. there HAS TO be some kinda meaning there (!!).
Going back to the events of the chimera ant arc....ooh boy. let’s see: gon is optimistic & hopeful even in the face of kite potentially being dead, killua says he’s light, they find kite & dude is fucked up, gon is pissed. gets all angry & ~dark~, especially during the palace invasion when he’s staring pitou down as she fixes up komugi. then the actual fight against pitou: more darkness, more anger, but through it all there’s still light, namely his jajanken being very orange & fiery lookin.....and that final sequence, where he puts all his possible nen he’d ever have into his ~final form~ or wahtever & turns into a male version of true form!bisky but dressed in a crop top & short-shorts (i am SCARRED, btw. s c a r r e d !). there’s just huuuge flashes of light as that’s going on, and it reminded me of supernovas or dying stars when i was thinking about it, where the star is like, collapsing under its own weight? & burning thru its own fuel, until there’s nothing left except a dwarf or black hole or what have you. one final, extremely deadly burst of light & energy before death.
On the meruem side of things: born into a dark cave, exhibits a traditionally evil/cruel/wicked/whatever personality/traits so that has ppl associating him with darkness. then he gets to know komugi, starts to appreciate other aspects of humanity, seems like he could have actually turned into a decent person who doesn’t want to eat everyone - so that’s a ‘path to light’, maybe? - and then the extermination team yeets themselves into the palace, netero takes him out to bumfuck nowhere, they fight. netero’s fighting is just ALL light, from his giant ass golden 100-type guanyin bodhisattva to the poor man’s rose. again, there’s the sense of finality to it all, in a similar vein to dying stars: netero comes in determined to kill meruem no matter what, and we all know netero doesn’t flake. then we see netero get destroyed after the zero hand, and he triggers the rose, and everything is burning & on fire before the flames are put out and all turns dark again.
But wait!!! pouf & youpi revive meruem and all he does is play gungi with komugi, even with the poison of the rose. he eventually dies, and the gungi pieces in that final shot of them together (i am BAWLING just thinking about it holy shit) has one that’s all white, one that’s a black ring and white inside. i assume all white is for komugi, who has never done ANYTHING wrong in her LIFE, so i like to think that the 2nd one is for meruem - born “into darkness”, literally & figuratively, but he turns something like ‘good’ by the end. it’s interesting how togashi has sort of gone for a bit of a subversion here: the hero going from light to darkness, and the main antag from darkness to light.

Your thoughts on Zero 4? :P
So it’s safe to say that I can rank the Zero games like this: Z1 < Z4 < Z2 ≤ Z3.
Z4 was basically the X5 of the Zero series... in more ways than one, actually. No, seriously, there are a lot of funny similarities between the two if you think about it :o but more importantly: Z4 has some odd mechanics that apparently make it more divisive.
Most of these mechanics are streamlined compared to the previous games. No more elves/disks to find, you have to raise one elf almost like a Chao; no more grinding; the hub world is much smaller and condensed; all 8 bosses are selectable from the start like in the Classic and X series; no more Elemental Chips, the only elemental attacks are the EX Skills; only 3 weapons right from the start, and btw the Z Knuckle is pretty fun to use and there are some interesting puzzles with it, like stealing a light and using it to repel the Scrap Elves. The novelty, the weather system, is fairly easy to manage, and it’s just a matter of guessing which weather would benefit you and which the boss: it also massively simplifies the process of gaining EX Skills, because now you just need to play a level in the “wrong” weather, reducing the ranking system once again to bragging rights.
... and then there’s the parts mechanic that can compete with X5 in sheer obtusity lol. I had to use a guide, especially to get my beloved Double Jump and Kuuenzan <3 but yeah, at this point I’d rather find disks in the levels, it’s not like sometimes you have to grind a while until enemies decide to be merciful and spawn parts 🙄 I think you can have an easy time even if you just level up Croire the elf... but even that requires a boring amount of grinding for the higher levels :V
The levels also felt shorter for some reason, maybe because of the lack of collectibles. The gimmicks are a bit hit or miss: for example, Heat Genblem’s level was very reminescent of Mattrex’, which I didn’t particularly love, while Sol Titanian’s was more interesting, as avoiding being burned by the sun pushed you to climb fast. I found Popla Cockapetri’s level rather forgettable, while Tech Kraken’s “reach the bottom of this wrap-around made in 140 seconds” section was really cool and it’s a shame you don’t get to play it again. Mino Magnus’ level wins for the originality of its magnetism gimmick - you’d think the Megaman series would play more with the limits of being a robot!
The game looks as pretty as Z3 with some beautiful parallax use, while the soundtrack... eh? I think it’s rather uneven in quality, some tracks are less memorable (Sleeping Beast, Blackheart Beat, Nothing Beats) while others are just bangers (Esperanto, Queen of Hurt, Crash IV, Straight Ahead, Cyberspace). The Zero series has always favored “edgy” rock, but Z4 has probably the least amount of variation which makes most tracks blend together, but on their own they’re good! Special shout out to the Japanese version of Next New World for including full singing voice.
I left the plot for last because b o y. We’re not in the Resistance Base anymore, Zero, Ciel and three other operators have gone freelancers. We actually see humans for the first time! And ngl I felt their mistrust and resentment towards Zero. Usually the concept of humans being racists towards androids is used as a poorly thought parallelism with real life (coughcoughdetroitbecomehumancough), but here it’s a natural and even understandable consequence (from their limited POV) of the events of the X and Zero series.
And then halfway through the morally grey anti villain destroys Neo Arcadia to take down Weil! Twenty million people dead! And Weil wasn’t even one of them! Yay!
Sidenote, while the humans were sort of there (even Neige’s personality doesn’t go much beyond “intrepid reporter”), Craft was an interesting character, always bordering between being noble, being pragmatic, and being a coward. Also quite a tank in battles!

The atmosphere of the very last level is stellar. Hearing this track droning on as you see the planet in the background, knowing that it’s at stake... I’ve felt a punch in the gut comparable to the first time I entered the Omega Territory in Metroid 2. Weird comparison, I know, but no other Megaman game went for this “you’re going to die” approach.
I was tense throughout the entire level. The bosses took out a lot of energy from me and I was terrified of reaching Weil with anything less than full energy and full Sub Tanks. And I was right: this piece of shit is tough.
And then the second phase starts, and as Zero declares that he’s not a hero, he just fights for the people he believes in, and for them he’s willing to give his life, Falling Down plays, which is competing with Chaos Angel in my head for the title of Best Masterpiece On The GBA. Seriously, fuck me, I’ve listened to it quite a few times before, but hearing it in context (plus the apprehension at the thought of facing the boss) made my throat tighten. Very few moments in videogames could elict such a physical reaction from me.
And finally, after a short but grueling battle, Zero dies, for real.
I might be a little emotional.
Oh, and before you ask, Chikao Otsuka is the GOAT. “Ware wa akuma da!” indeed :P
Personally I can see why the game is so divisive, but I still can’t put it below Z1. It still benefits from many of the improvements of Z2 and Z3 and it was overall an enjoyable experience! I just think the finale overshadows everything else and the parts system needed to be reworked.
I don’t know if I’ll replay it anytime soon... Maybe I will, but I will skip the end because it got me :(

Top Albums of 2020
I was tagged by the amazing @joonni to list my top nine twelve albums of 2020! This was honestly so hard, but so fun. I love any tags to do with music xD (Your music taste was amazing btw! Sorry I went a little crazy and did a few extra lol.) Thanks lovie 💓
I went with the albums that I loved as whole (aka I loved most, if not all, of the songs) and listened to the most this year. Some choices have deeper meanings, while others were just flat-out enjoyable. I also stuck with albums that came out this year only, but I wasn’t sure if that was inherently part of the challenge. I wasn’t too picky on the criteria, just went with the ones that made up the score for my 2020. All albums have Spotify links incase something catches your eye! (Apologies for my extra-ness; I added recommendations from each album and a brief...ish explanation as to why it made the list.)
Also, they’re in no particular order, because this was difficult enough...
Map of the Soul: 7 by BTS
Explanation — This album was my first comeback as part of the BTS Army. There are so many tracks that I adore, and I honestly can’t remember the last time I was so excited for music. It breathed life into my Spotify, it was the album I listened to the most this year, and Black Swan was my most listened song. The differing music genres that they played with, all the way from orchestral to trap to hip hop and synth pop, left me more and more excited as the songs progressed. If there was a #1 on this list, it would be MOTS:7.
Highlights — Interlude: Shadow, Black Swan, ON, We Are Bulletproof: The Eternal
Zero: Fever Part.1 by Ateez
Explanation — This was the soundtrack to my summer. I hadn’t heard much from Ateez, but what I had heard, I wasn’t a huge fan of? Maybe I hadn’t been grabbed yet, but oh boy. Zero: Fever definitely did that. Every track is such high energy and memorable, so it was so hard to pick favorites! I’ll always think back on this one for summer, and will be transported back to plenty of sunset commutes.
Highlights — Fever, Thanxx, One Day At A Time
The Dream Chapter: Eternity by Tomorrow x Together
Explanation — Until this mini album, I had only listened to TXT in passing. I liked their stuff, but I feel like this is where they really found their stride. TDC:E caught me totally off-guard, in the best way possible. To me at least, this one is a work of art. Each of the six tracks is so entrancing, and so different from each other while still working together as a cohesive story. And don’t even get me started on the MVs! This is an album that I listen to for feels and fun, which to me, TXT are just brilliant at.
Highlights — Fairy of Shampoo, Maze in the Mirror, Eternally
Dystopia: The Tree of Language by Dreamcatcher
Explanation — It took me forever to find a girl group that I could really stan, like hardcore. This comeback for Dreamcatcher was when I realized they were it for me. This album in particular is so diverse. Their voices are both haunting and beautiful, and the way they interweave rock/alternative elements into their music has always turned my ear. They are so different from so many other girl groups out there, from the sound to their stage presence to their aesthetic. I will never stop talking about them, and this album really shows the best of their work thus far.
Highlights — Red Sun, Sahara, Paradise
BE by BTS
Explanation — How could BE not be on this list? What a perfect end to a shitty year. There’s something so comforting yet uplifting about this one, and I will happily admit I cried when I first heard Blue & Grey. Who am I kidding, I still do. There’s only one other artist I have listed on here with two albums, so BTS is in good company. What more is there to say other than BE was the warm hug we all needed.
Highlights — Life Goes On, Blue & Grey, Dis-ease, Stay
Heng:garae by Seventeen
Explanation — This is another group that I hadn’t listened to much before this album. I was so surprised and excited. Every song that passed, I found myself smiling more. Their voices are astoundingly beautiful, and the songs are sickeningly catchy. Another album that I go to just to have fun. It’s one of my favorites to just put on when a day is good, but doesn’t Seventeen make it a little better regardless?
Highlights — Fearless, Kidult, I Wish, Together
The Untamed by various
Explanation — If you’ve seen the Chinese drama The Untamed, then you know exactly why this is on there. This album is a collection of songs that are themes for the characters in the show, most of which are sung by the actors themselves. Let me tell you; I don’t know a lick of Mandarin, but these are some of the most stunning songs I’ve ever heard. It’s one of the things that drew me to the drama to begin with; everything, including the music, is breathtaking. The classical Chinese sound plays so well with the character’s stories and singer’s vocals. They tell stories all on their own and give the drama so much depth. Even if you’re not a fan of the show or webtoon it’s based on, give this one a listen. You won’t be disappointed!

Humanity (Chapters I & II) by Thomas Bergersen
Explanation — If you know anything about me, you know how important orchestral music is to me. It’s been a huge part of my music journey ever since I was in middle school. Thomas Bergersen has been my favorite composer for years; the way he integrates the classical with the modern is just...there are no words. These two albums cannot be listed separately; they’re part of a seven-part project titled Humanity. Chapters I & II came out in 2020, and honestly, I have no words. The way he tells a story through almost entirely lyric-less work is just immaculate. I’ve never felt more powerful, emotional, or inspired than when listening to these two. I cried when I first heard Your Imagination and Materialize. No matter how I am feeling, whether I need inspiration or hope or just some peace of mind, I go here. I’ve never felt more healed than when listening to his work. If you take a chance to listen to anything on this list, PLEASE. Give these a try.

Brightest Blue by Ellie Goulding
Explanation — I don’t listen to a ton of western music that isn’t orchestral or lofi, but I used to adore Ellie Goulding. Halcyon was my entire teen-hood. When I saw she came out with a new album this year, I gave it a listen for sentimentality reasons. And boy, I still love her. Her voice is both angelic and haunting, and her sound is so unique. The messages given in these songs are powerful, potent, a tad bit bittersweet, and especially valid for young women navigating adult life. Also the instrumentals backing her vocals are often big and grand and symphonic, filled with piano and violin. That’s enough to get me to listen. And to top it all off, the collabs she has on this album are so fitting for each track, it’s absolutely beautiful.
Highlights — Start, Cyan, Ode To Myself, Woman, Flux, Overture, Slow Grenade, Hate Me
Beneath Your Waves by Sleepy Fish
Explanation — If there’s one kind of music that shuts off the little anxiety bug in my brain and gets me to work, one that isn’t as intense as orchestral music and that doesn’t put me into sensory overload like orchestral sometimes does, it’s lofi. And Sleepy Fish does it so freakin’ well. This album that came out this year is one of my most often repeated over and over. When I’m struggling with sensory issues at work, I put this one repeat and my mind just...goes...quiet. It’s like medicine. And the tunes are so catchy and sweet. I’m instantly transported to someplace magical, some seaside city straight out of a Ghibli film, and far away from the things that are troubling me. Then I can finally get some work done, get to sleep, or just quiet my mind. If you struggle with sensory issues or anxiety like I do, give this album a shot. Also, the album titled My Room Becomes The Sea from 2019 is excellent.
Highlights — Velocities, Sunbreak, Swimming, Nights Like These, Winter Winter
WOOPS! by Woodz
Explanation — Another mini album that is just a blast to listen to, but it also has such a soft side that hits me in the feels. I don’t see a lot of people talking about Woodz, but you all should give him a listen. He’s so talented, and his voice on this one is just *chef’s kiss* everything. The mixing is also impeccable and pairs so well with his vocals.
Highlights — Bump Bump, On my own, Sweater, Tide
D-2 by Agust D
Explanation — I mean, we all knew this one was gonna be dope. Yoongi did not disappoint. This mixtape is so different from most of the stuff I listen to, but I absolutely adored it. The truth and rhythm and pure talent in each and every verse stuns me still. I find myself especially drawn to this one when I’m frustrated (not exclusively, but often, ‘cause 2020.) Both his truth and sound give me a safe place to feel that frustration and anxiety and vent/work through it. I don’t know what it is about Yoongi, but to me, all of his work is like a comforting friend going, “Hey, you’re totally valid and okay for feeling this way...but it sucks, doesn’t it?”

Why am I recommending this:
I’m not very knowledgeable in musicals, but I do love those I’ve seen and I think chosing that angle to talk about Aziraphale and Crowley’s relationship is a very cool and entertaining concept ! It also made me take note about more musicals to watch.
The interactions are sweet, fun, and it was just... really cool to read this fic. The conversations are always a treat, dialogue is very well written. And a fun read is sometimes just what you need, ya know ?
(This is mostly a book Omens fic btw, but I think anyone can enjoy it regardless!)

Aziraphale harrumphed. Crowley always managed to make harsh truths sound harsher, unlike Aziraphale, who managed to make harsh truths sound gentle and diplomatic and untrue.
Driving in New York wasn’t as stressful as it looked, provided you were in the passenger seat and the driver was a demon magicking away other cars. To be clear, it was still somewhat stressful, especially with the driver going 90 and not checking his rearviews, just not as stressful as Aziraphale imagined while a pedestrian.
“I’m sure he finds all the trouble he went through worthwhile now,” Crowley said, before unleashing a throat-tearing rock-riffed “ Jeeeeesuuuuuus!”
“He was quite petulant,” Aziraphale said. “In the show, I mean.”
“Wouldn’t you be, in that situation? Speaking of unfair shakes.”
“I guess. If I were human. Angels don’t have it in us to be petulant.”
Crowley looked at Aziraphale, both eyebrows raised, and laughed.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Hurdy
I love the game’s world and all the little stories and legends that fill it. Great atmosphere, great lore, so if you feel like getting a little worldbuildy and indulging in the scenery and its story, please do! A focus on the sense of camaraderie in a caravan would also be great (like people could do on Gamecube.....). Hurdy’s a bit of an odd duck for that theme, but maybe he hitched a ride at some point? With whom? Amidatty or De Nam maybe, among the nominated characters? I love the whole cast so anyone goes. Do they travel together enough for them to cotton onto the weirdness of the whole Gurdy situation? Got any run-in with Lady Mio? Or what’s his status after the miasma is lifted, can he go back to Tipa, can he/they begin to heal? What does healing even look like for him and Gurdy?
Ghost Trick: Cabanela
You know.. him. Dazzlingly OTT, untiring, rock-solid self-esteem, loyal to a fault, following a rhythm of his own, flawless intuition until it fails and it all burns down... him. I just want to see more of him doing stuff! The way he’s chill and open toward new people (like Sissel and Missile in ch15) makes him perfect to throw at most other characters and see how they react to the sparkles... I’d love some focus on how ridiculous his aesthetic is, half Saturday Night Fever half hardboiled detective half bubbly preteen (for a total of 150%) and yet he makes it work. Or how ruthless he can be, possibly for the sake of the people he cares for. The quote “The intimacy of big parties”. Him and Alma in the new timeline bonding over knowing (once Jowd has spilled the beans) but not remembering that terrible timeline. Some tropey scenario on the job. Snark-offs with Pigeon Man, by which I mean PM snarks and it bounces off him like water off a spotless white goose’s back. Dreaming Sissel but he’s strange... and wrong?
Ship-wise it’s only Cabanela/Jowd whenever it’s not infidelity, Cabanela/Alma in what-ifs and Cabanela/Alma/Jowd for me (and Lynne/Memry and Yomiel/fianSissel on the side). There are a bunch of shippy prompts in all my past letters - I would however reiterate here that Jowd. is. the worst tease. always.
Conversely, Cabanela/Lynne and Cabanela/Yomiel are NOTPs especially from Cabanela’s side. So while I appreciate the thick tension of a good Yomiel VS Cabanela confrontation like everyone and their cat, and also really appreciate a roughed-up Cabanela, and I do love Yomiel in his own right... I don’t want Cabanela being into it. Adrenaline junkie he may be but this hurts and his coat’s a mess and there’s no perfect winning scenario so he hates every second of it. (JOWD being into it is another matter altogether and he should probably mind his own business)
Kentucky Route Zero: Carrington, Cate
Act after act, intermission after intermission, I somehow didn’t see the arts rising to such a dominant theme in KRZ and it’s stuck with me since the ending finally hit. It’s great and moving. So! Who better than good ol’ antler man to linger in those feels! Carrington’s playwright adventures or Carrington&anyone you fancy, either way I’d listen to him ramble for a week and I would like to know more about his big dramatic plans. Or maybe him helping someone, more or less accidentally, by offering his unique takes? Overriding my “no canon retellings” DNW for a hot second, did he ever figure out what was going down in the Death of the Hired Man (or Nap of the Hired Man as the case may be) interlude?
For Cate, I’m mostly interested in two things: life on the river and mushrooms. Maybe both! The Echo river ecosystem is intensely fascinating to me as opposed to life on the surface and life on the Zero, and yet all these environments are permeable. So what’s a moment in her daily life that encapsulates the river? Someone they picked up on the Mammoth, a strange island that popped up at some point? Cate&Will bonding extremely welcome, I’m love Will. And then there’s the mushroom hunting. I don’t know much about mushrooms, but I do know that they’re cool. Cate seems to agree, so if you’ve got a story or pic in you about her and them mushrooms, I’d love to see it.
Pyre: Volfred Sandalwood
This is a Volfred solo, Volfred&literally anyone or Volfred/Tariq, /Oralech or /Tariq/Oralech request. If &Manley or &Brighton, I am not interested in more lenient takes on their characters than canon’s. fwiw I also enjoy Jodi/Celeste and Bertrude/Pamitha a lot!
I feel deeply for all of Pyre’s main themes - literacy, degrees of freedom, the fragile time that is the end of a historical cycle, nobodies rising up to the occasion, building a better society, and of course found family, “distance cannot separate our spirits” and all that jazz, and Volfred is squarely rooted at the center of all of them. Just please tell me things about my fave. His relationship to the Scribes (as a historian, a some kind of vision, via *ae or once he’s a star himself)? A ‘forced vacay’ Downside ending where he looks at the Union from afar and keeps living in this strange transformational place? Life in a cramped Blackwagon that was meant for like 5 people tops and is currently eight Nightwings, a herald and an orb? Since he picked him for the job to begin with, does he respect and cherish Hedwyn as he dang well should? What does it feel like to try and Read a herald? Was he ever in danger, in the Commonwealth or in the Downside? Does he puff up as prime minister because he’s nervous, and who can see past his hyper-professionalism and lend a hand? Please roast him big time about the votes he assigns to the various Nightwings in his planner? What’s his attitude toward the flame’s purification (what with being a tree but mostly like, as a general concept. He did nothing wrong!) (well he definitely said some things wrong and sometimes oftentimes the ego jumps out, but his intentions did nothing wrong)? When did his calculating approach fail him? Something with Pamitha along the lines of that edit that goes “Can we talk, one ten to another?"/"I am an eleven, my girl, but continue."? btw that ‘emphatically yes xeno’ from my general likes is only applicable here I guess so: emphatically yes xeno to both shippy interactions at all ratings and to gen explorations of what a Sap is like...
Shenmue: Qiu Hsu, Xianzi Bei
Cormorants... kung fu... cormorant kung fu. They turned out to be my faves in a very likeable cast and I’d love to see either or both of them slice-of-life-ing it up in Niaowu, or anywhere up or down the river. The rest of the cast is welcome to join! Did Ren end up at Liu He Hall for whatever reason, or did Shenhua chat up a cormorant, as she does? Id love to see a spookier mood too! Ghost story time in Liu Jiao shrine maybe?
The Silver Case: Catherine, Kodai Sumio, Kuroyanagi Shinko, Kusabi Tetsugorou, Macalister Edo, Morishima Tokio
I‘m all for the surrealism, big things being introduced and never picked up again, Rashomon’ing it up with six explanations for the same thing where no single one can be true, people dying and then popping up again like nbd... maybe the thing I like the most is characters transcending their humanity and looming over the dystopian world like ominous avatars. Correctness’ first ending had me swooning, that kind of mood is unparalleled. I have played TSC, FSR and 25W so far and have vague memories of K7. I’m aware of the “everything’s connected” readings but that’s not my main interest in these games. Mainly I see Lospass as a real island but also a metaphysical place of transformation first and foremost, where strange things happen that don’t make sense elsewhere, but I’m good with anything that works for your story! There are a few & prompts for these fine folks in my Press Start letter [here].
For Catherine, I’d love to see something along the lines of her YAMI appearance, on Lospass on her own or hanging out with another character of your choice (or Tokio again). Sumio leaves me at a loss for words... if you’ve played 25W, maybe an expansion of his [intense ethereal whooshing] moment? He’s a gust away from vanishing from existence altogether... &Sakura and/or &/Tetsu if you want. Or his time in prison or a return to Lospass or whatever’s going on with that one, really. For Shinko I’m itching for different team-ups! Throw her at anyone you like and see what happens! FSR-era Tetsu could be cool, or off-the-grid Tetsu, or Tetsu&anyone... as for Edo, I’d be curious to see his pov on anyone and anything! WAS the Flower Sun and Rain the friends we met along the way? And Tokio... oh Tokio. Something about older Tokio and his gaggle of tulpas (Slash and whatshisface from YUKI who looks suspiciously like YAMI Tokio himself?)? Any...thing...about any part of his life from Lifecut onwards? Any portentous encounters?
