It turns out that even their shared body heat and Steve's elevated body temperature are not enough to withstand an extended make-out session out in the snow.
Buck naked.
If he was in his fur it would be fine, but then he couldn't do that to Eddie with his tongue. Or grind in his lap with Eddie's calloused fingers gripping his waist, leaving marks on his flesh.
"You're shivering, Stevie." Eddie says, his big hands rubbing up and down his back and arms to warm him. Steve's wolf purrs at the gesture, as does his human side, for once in complete sync when it comes to his human.
His mate.
Too soon, Harrington. Too soon.
"We should get back inside, warm you up." Eddie adds, moving to sit up, but Steve shakes his head and pushes closer to Eddie, hiding his face at the junction of his neck and shoulder. He doesn't want this moment to end, because what if Eddie changes his mind as soon as Steve lets go of him? Steve can't risk that.
Not now.
Not after losing everything.
Not after just finding Eddie.
Eddie laughs indulgently at his behavior and takes him in his arms again. "You're being ridiculous. Come on, sweetheart, let's go inside. You're still recovering, you can't get sick. Let me make you some breakfast, okay?" And when Steve still makes no move to let Eddie go, Eddie whispers in his ear, "I can still feed you with my hand if you want."
This makes Steve lean back and look at Eddie with big eyes, and Eddie must think it's because Steve is horrified. He hastily backpedals. "I mean, uh, that was... a joke? I don't have to -"
Steve kisses him, partly to cut off his nervous ramblings, mostly because Eddie just offered to feed him. Not the injured wolf he found in the woods, but the human Steve. To continue their routine, to keep Steve so close to him. Eddie may not know what sharing food like this means to his kind, but his inner wolf doesn't care.
It also reminds him that he has brought a gift to his mate. Steve has provided for his mate and he can't wait to show it, even if it means getting out of Eddie's arms and off his lap.
"Come on, I brought you something," Steve says, rising to his feet. It brings Eddie's face to eye level with his cock and Steve would be lying if he said it didn't make him feel smug to see Eddie's eyes widen and his tongue flick out to lick his lips.
"Eddie?" He asks coyly, the grin on his face giving him away. "You comin' or what?"
"Huh?" Eddie asks, sounding dazed before his eyes snap up to Steve's and color rushes up his throat and onto his pale cheeks. "Oh God, yeah, um, I'm comin', yeah, of course I'm comin'," he stutters, scrambling to his feet as well.
Steve turns and leads Eddie to where he left the deer, his hips swaying in a way he knows makes his ass look even better, and he swears he can feel Eddie's eyes on him the whole way.
Eddie's gasp when they finally reach the carcass comes late, proof enough for Steve that Eddie had his mind on something else instead of where they were going.
"Steve, did you...?" Eddie asks, his eyes fixed on the dead deer. Suddenly Steve isn't so sure Eddie would appreciate him doing this because he said he hated the thought of hurting an animal. But they need to eat, and meat is the best way to do that during a winter as long and hard as this one.
"I killed it as quickly and painlessly as I could, I promise, Eddie. I know you didn't want to hurt a living thing, so I did it for you. So you didn't have to."
The silence that follows Steve's statement makes the fear settle heavily in his stomach. What if his mate rejects his offer? What if his mate rejects him?
It would finish the job the hunters couldn't.
"Stevie," Eddie starts and then stops, the anticipation building inside Steve until he's ready to snap, to fall to his knees and beg Eddie. For what he doesn't even know. Forgiveness? Love? Forever?
He's pulled out of his spiraling thoughts by warm arms wrapped around his waist and Eddie's scent enveloping him. "You went to hunt when you're still healing? For me? Just because I said I didn't want to kill?" And when Steve nods, Eddie takes his face between his palms and kisses him.
Deeply. Decisive. Devoted.
Eddie kisses him as if he knows what this means to Steve.
Like he wants it, too.
God, Steve hopes he does.
They keep kissing until another shiver, this time more violent, runs down Steve's body where it's pressed against Eddie's.
"Come on, let's get this inside and I'll make us some breakfast before I deal with this."
"I can help you," Steve insists and Eddie kisses the tip of his nose.
"I know. Later. Right now I need to know that you're not pushing yourself any more than you already have."
And Eddie is right, Steve feels the events of the last few hours catching up with him. The hunt, dragging the heavy carcass back to the cabin, the shift. So he lets Eddie pick up the body and sling it over his shoulder in a display of strength that makes Steve's stomach flutter.
Steve's mate is not only kind and caring, but also strong.
His wolf purrs.
His heart flutters.
His cheeks heat up.
Eddie reaches for Steve's hand, twines their fingers together, and they walk back to the cabin, hand in hand.
Tumblr media
Inside, Eddie disposes of the body at the bottom of the stairs to the cellar before making them breakfast, while Steve finds something to wear in Eddie's closet. It smells like Eddie, and Steve's wolf preens at the thought of smelling like Eddie and putting his own scent on Eddie's clothes.
They eat wrapped in a blanket on their mattress, the roaring fire and their shared body heat warming Steve to the core. He runs hot anyway, and Eddie has already stripped down to his underwear under the blanket, claiming it will help Steve warm up faster.
Steve doesn't complain, not if it means he gets to feel Eddie's skin on his own after he follows suit and loses his (Eddie's) shirt as well. Skin on skin, of course, helps him warm up faster after all.
When they're done, they both silently agree to lie down for a while, exhausted from all that has happened. Without having to talk about it, Steve lies down first and Eddie presses himself against his back, his arms wrapping around him and pulling him against Eddie's front. It's the same position they've been sleeping in for weeks.
Only now Steve can feel Eddie's lips against his nape and he can lace their fingers together to press their joined hands against his chest, right over his heart.
It's the safest he's felt since his whole life went up in flames. It's safer than he ever expected to feel again.
Tumblr media
As he promised, Steve helps Eddie pull the skin off the dear and cut it up so they can rub it in salt and preserve it. Steve has done this a thousand times at home and knows what he's doing, so after assuring Eddie several times that he feels better after their nap, Eddie takes a big chunk of the fresh meat and goes to work preparing their dinner.
He turns it into a hearty stew with carrots and potatoes and other root vegetables.
By the time Steve is done putting the last of the meat away and cleaning and preparing the skin so they can use it later, he's exhausted again but feels a deep sense of satisfaction.
As the stew cooks on the stove, Eddie joins him to admire his work.
"Wow, Stevie, you did a great job. It probably would have taken me all night. Wayne's usually the one who does this kind of stuff."
Eddie sounds sad when he mentions his uncle and Steve thinks, not for the first time, that something might have happened to him in town. He thinks that soon Eddie will want to go there and check on him, and he will go with him. Even if it terrifies him.
"I heated some water, so how about we let the stew simmer and you go upstairs and take a nice hot bath? You kind of smell like a slaughterhouse."
"Are you saying I stink?" Steve demands in mock offense.
Eddie walks up to him and brings his mouth close to Steve's ear. His hot breath makes Steve shiver as Eddie says, "I'm saying I want to give you a bath if you let me."
It's a losing battle not to run up the stairs to get into the tub.
Tumblr media
In the end, Steve convinces Eddie to join him in the small tub. It's a tight fit, but Steve doesn't mind. They clean each other with gentle hands that soon become adventurous.
The smell of their shared pleasure makes Steve's inner wolf roll over with joy, contentment radiating from him. Steve shares the sentiment as he lies in Eddie's arms, sated and happy.
Afterwards, they both change into clean clothes and sit back down at the table to enjoy their dinner.
It's delicious, and soon Steve is finishing his third plate.
Only Eddie's amused chuckle reminds him that Eddie is probably not used to a wolf's appetite. He blushes as he realizes that he has just inhaled the food Eddie has so painstakingly prepared for them like a ravenous animal.
"Oh God," Steve groans in embarrassment and buries his face in his hands.
"Hey, no, don't look like that. I take that as a compliment, Stevie." Eddie assures him as he pulls Steve's hands away from his face so he can look him in the eye. "It makes me very happy to know that you like my food."
Steve gives him a tentative smile and says, "Too bad it's gone," only half joking.
Eddie's answering grin is delighted, dimples carved deep into his cheeks and wrinkles forming at the corners of his eyes.
"Oh, but it ain't. I saved you the last bite, baby."
With that, Eddie gets up from the table and walks over to the stove, pulling one last piece of meat out of the pot with his fingers. Turning back to Steve, he walks back to the table, but instead of sitting in his chair, he sits on Steve's lap.
"I promised to feed you, didn't I?" he says, his voice deep and his tone hungry as he lifts the meat right to Steve's lips. He doesn't let go of it immediately when Steve tries to take it from him, but rather pushes his fingers into Steve's mouth so that Steve can lick the remaining sauce off his fingers.
Steve only lets them slip out of his mouth when the last trace of meat and sauce is gone.
"Fuck, I could eat you alive," he says as he stares up at Eddie in awe.
Eddie smirks down at him. "What are you waiting for, big boy? You can always have the last bite of me."

Talking Buddie Language: Ep 6.13
Buddie nation how are we doing?!?! This episode really blew me and my expectations away. I loved it so much and I really think this was such a statement episode. They made a bold statement with their choices in both Buck and Eddie’s development and storylines going further, especially with Christopher. It was a fun and light episode to combat the previous few that have been on the darker side. I think this is my favorite episode to analyze thus far! So I’m just gonna get right into it.
Buck Can Do Math?
Before getting into the whole math aspect, I just want to say how good it was to see Buck and Eddie back to being partners and in sync once again. They walked in together. They moved so seamlessly at the same time, and it felt like no time has passed since the last time they worked together before Buck’s injury
Tumblr media
I love how one of the running jokes throughout the show has been that Buck cannot do math. Eddie told him point blank back in 3.04 “You don’t know math.” So to actually see him do math so seamlessly in his head really made me happy to see!
B: How much did she drink?…So that’s a 100 mg. A woman her size should be having 14 mg. So she’s taken 7.13 more times than the daily allowance.
C: Did he just do math? In his head?
E: I think so.
B: Uh, was uh, was I right?
H: You are.
Tumblr media
I love seeing his teams' reactions to him doing quick math in his head because everyone is confused about his new capabilities, including himself. One thing I would like to note is Eddie’s little confused moment because he knows Buck the best out of everyone there. So even he’s confused as to this new revelation that he didn’t know existed.
Chimney with Denny // Buck with Christopher
The reason I am including this specific part is because there was a deliberate choice to include a scene in which we have Chimney talking to his best friend's child about their fathers. It's interesting to see how Chim is literally just like any other uncle figure talking to someone he can consider to be a nephew of some sort. It was not paternal in any way because they had a talk about how complicated Chim's relationship was with his father. Denny connected to what Chim had to say but the difference in their interaction versus every interaction we have gotten with Buck and Christopher is massive. And it was conveniently just before we got that wholesome Buckley Diaz family scene too to really bring forth the differences between their relationships.
Buckley Diaz Family Does Math Together
I am still screaming and crying happy tears over this wholesome family moment. This season, the writers are really putting in the effort to solidify the three of them as a family unit of their own. They are sitting once again in Buck's kitchen doing the most mundane family task, which is snacking and helping their kid with their homework while they chat. It is such a difference to how Chim and Denny's interaction went a few moments before this scene.
I love Christopher testing out Buck's new skills while Buck happily indulges him. He seems so happy to inform his father that his Buck now knows everything, to which Buck quickly assures that it's not everything, just math. Eddie's fond little "yeah, yeah" is so typical in other shows and movies where one parent is getting all the cool points from their child and the other has to make peace with it. No heat there, just Eddie being his usual self when he's around his boys.
I love how while Buck and Chris were having their little fun, Eddie pulled a Buck and was the one researching Buck's new abilities. A lot of time, when two people are together for a while, whether it is romantically or platonically, they start adapting the other's little habits and tells. In this instance, Eddie had adopted Buck's knack for researching and he is relaying his findings to his boys in typical Buck fashion.
The conversation about math is something I really found interesting and I have rewatched it multiple times already to uncover that there may be an underlying meaning here that isn't just about math. When Buck tells Eddie that it turns out that he "loves math," Eddie goes on to relay his findings on lightning survivors and newfound cognitive abilities they had.
Tumblr media
E: According to this, you can get new cognitive abilities after a serious injury to the central nervous system.
B: Which I uh, definitely had.
E: Hmm, but some doctors are saying it's not a real thing.
B: Uh, you think I've secretly known the square root of 162 all these years and just been holding out? No c'mon, it has to be the lightning.
E: Fair point.
Tumblr media
This conversation really reminds me of the one Eddie and Ana had in 3.12 about the horses.
A: There's a lot to be said for getting back on the horse but there's also some value in learning that you don't like horses.
Now just follow me for a second. If you fall off a horse and decide to get back on it to give it another shot, that can be ok. But if you decide that maybe horses aren't your thing, then it's also ok to just never get on one again. In this instance, if Eddie dated women and it didnt go anywhere, it's ok for him to try again. But it is also alright if he decided that dating women isn't what he wants and moves on to dating people he does want.
The same goes for the math of it all. Buck states that he likes math now, but he didn't used to like math before. And when Eddie calls him out, he is quick to explain that he didn't know math until after the lightning hit him. So let's say that Buck has only dated women his entire life. Maybe he is now realizing that he can be into other's that he had never considered before. Maybe this is his way of realizing that he has other options in front of him that he didnt think he did before. It makes sense if you also consider Buck trying to reach out to each woman he's ever been with to see if his performance was alright later on in the episode. Because maybe now he doesn't want to focus on women, maybe he wants to focus on a man instead.
Before diving into more of their body language, I want to talk about a concept we learned in one of my behavioral analysis classes. Mirroring is typically when two partners have such a chemical connection that they’re so in sync with everything that they do. Such things can be finishing each others sentences, or knowing what the other is thinking, even walking, talking and behaving in very similar ways. Mirroring is usually found to be the case with people who are in long term romantic partnerships because it takes a lot of emotional understanding to achieve it. This is important because mirroring happens a lot with Buck and Eddie even though they’re not in a romantic relationship. It’s the fact that they are so deeply connected on an emotional level that allows them to mirror each other in different ways.
One form of mirroring is body chemistry as well. Take into consideration Eddie's body position throughout the entire family scene. Our bodies tend to immediately shift towards the direction of our other halves because they’re like magnets seeking each other out. When you are attracted to someone, your body senses it and craves to be close to it at all times. That's why when you love someone, your body is always turned towards them. It's not even something people are conscious about because our bodies tend to have a mind of their own at times, especially when it comes to chemistry. It’s something that is very prevalent in Buck and Eddie’s relationship because they always seem to turn towards the other at all times.
Tumblr media
Eddie's entire body is turned towards Buck to the point where he kind of has his back towards his son. It’s also very open because he feels safe with Buck. He isn’t closed off or protecting himself. No, he’s just basically openly surrendering his body to Buck because he knows he will keep it safe at all times. Compare this moment to the one in Eddie’s own kitchen when he was breaking up with Ana. He had his arms folded in front of him, closing himself off to her. Such a massive difference between the two of them and the two of these idiots.
When Buck mentions liking the idea that he’s the guy who has the answers, he immediately looks at Eddie and then Christopher as if they’re the answers he’s been searching for all season long. Which if you think about it, they are the two people that make him the happiest and the most at ease. It’s ironic that Eddie is turned away from Buck when he says that so he completely misses the lovesick look on Buck’s face as he says it. Now this, in my opinion, directly foreshadows Buck realizing his feelings for Eddie soon. Just how he was venting to Eddie and Christopher in 6.01 about how the perfect options for interim captain were right under Bobby’s nose, well the perfect partner and kid are in front of Buck’s now. This moment indicates that Buck will come to find soon that the partner for him has been the one by his side for years now. That framing and the way his eyes are sparking tell it all.
Tumblr media
Husband's Who Con Together, Stay Together
I am so so here for Buck and Eddie putting Buck's newly found abilities to the test and gaining something out of it. I thought it was hilarious how Eddie was the mastermind behind Buck conning their teammates out of their money by doing some math equations. This shows once again how close these two really are because they're counting their money together and in the end it is just that, their money. Because they're a team and whatever they win, they share. You can tell by the way Eddie takes the bills out of Buck's hands, counts it then hands them back to him. It's nice to see them attached at the hip once again considering how most of 6a they were often paired off with others.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We see another example of a mirroring when they are walking side-by-side with the same steps. Seeing them walking together and laughing together is so nice and it really shows us how when compared to their interactions with their other team members it is so different to what they have together. We watched Buck and Hen be close for most of 6a, they got drunk together and went out with Denny together. But when you compare their scenes and their friendship to the one Buck has with Eddie and Christopher, it is once again vastly different. Which is why it was so pertinent to have them establish those other bonds with the other members of the 118, so that when we saw them close again, we would be seeing how different their relationship is than with others'.
The Winner Takes All The Steaks
The Poker Scene™️ will forever go down in Buddie history as one of their most iconic moments ever. There is so much that happened in the span of a few minutes that I truly feel like I hallucinated this entire episode because of it.
I don’t know how Eddie convinced Buck that he should dress to impress, but he surely succeeded. They were both dressed the nicest we have ever seen them. I love how when it comes to these two, there’s such an unconditional trust formed between them that they don’t have to question each other. Buck simply put on his best suit, his nicest watch and went along simply because Eddie asked him to.
The fact that they were wearing red and blue makes me absolutely feral!! I’ve talked about the significance of the red and blue theory when it comes to couples so I’m just going to link it right here if anyone is interested. But the costume department surely made a choice putting these two in red and blue when they were on their own outside of work, doing something fun. Especially in an episode where all the other couples were off on their own doing coupley stuff together.
The LAFD poker game was so fun to watch especially knowing what Buck is coming back from. I love the idea that Eddie would have made these plans to bring Buck to this poker game to not only test out his new cognitive abilities, but so that he can have some fun. Eddie, more than anyone else, knows how Buck really feels about his recent brush with death. So him bringing Buck to this game, dressed to the nines can either be because he wanted to test out Buck's abilities or simply because he wanted Buck to enjoy himself. Either way, I love how much Eddie cares about Buck and his happiness and well-being.
I want to discuss a couple different moments and how they are with each other. When they first enter and Buck sees Captain Mehta and Chief Williams, he is clearly shocked because whatever he was anticipating was definitely not a poker game with other LAFD members. When Chief says, "Let's see if he survives tonight," I think it's important to note how Buck seems weary of his place at the table and he immediately diverts his attention to his safe person, Eddie. Eddie is simply smiling at him in reassurance and even does his little turtle face in a way to tell Buck, you got this, I believe in you, which then immediately causes Buck to smile. See, they have that effect on each other. A simple look and a soft smile that is reserved for each other is enough to make the other feel safe and loved.
Tumblr media
The discussion about Buck's brush with death was clearly making Buck uncomfortable and it goes to show that just because he is back at work, doesn't mean he is magically over it. Him not being able to joke with the Chief and Mehta, when he was openly joking with Eddie and Chris at his loft indicates the lack of trust he has with them. He knows the Diaz boys and trusts them unconditionally. They're his safe space, his people and he can feel comfortable joking with them because he has also been honest with Eddie about his real feelings. It feels out of place to partake in the casual conversation of his death with people he barely knows. But Eddie, his person and support system is quick to correct Chiefl Williams when she mentions Buck being dead for 3 minutes.
W: So 3 minutes huh?
B: Uh what's that?
W: That's how long you were dead.
E: 3 minutes and 17 seconds.
Tumblr media
Eddie does not want anyone to diminish the 17 seconds Buck was dead for because he had to live in a world without Buck for 3 minutes and 17 seconds. Like I mentioned in my last episode's meta, Eddie is clearly not over this traumatic event. The way his voice was so broken when he told Buck he died in 6.12 indicates that he is not fully over it himself. And one can't blame him because he lost his partner and co-parent for that amount of time. He grieved Buck like he would a spouse or longtime partner. So for Eddie, diminishing Buck's death to only 3 minutes does not do his grief any justice because he was gone for an addition 17 seconds that Eddie will not be forgetting about for a long time. It's also interesting to focus on Buck’s facial expression when Eddie looks at him and says that because he seems kind of stunned. Almost as if he had no idea that is how long he was gone for or that Eddie knew it down to the very second.
Eddie's heated looks throughout that entire scene were something completely out of this world. I mean they're his typical fond heart eyes, but there was a clear underlying layer of lust and attraction in his looks. He was looking at Buck proudly but also like his new math skills were doing things to Eddie.
I’m sure it was so wonderful to see Buck so confident and smug while he kept winning hand after hand. Once Eddie stopped playing, he comfortably stood behind Buck and supported him while he won. On one occasion, after Buck won a round, the camera pans to Eddie and he’s completely flustered. He’s smiling and ducks his head in a cute shy way one does when they’re flustered by a crush. Eddie isn’t fooling anyone. We all know what he is and at this point I don’t even think he’s trying to hide it.
Tumblr media
Then we have the end of all the rounds where Buck has won big. When Chief asks him what he wants as his prize, I love that his immediate thought is to look at Eddie, his partner, before making a decision. This was such a bold and deliberate choice in having him do this because it signifies that these two are partners both on and off the field. Eddie was already looking at Buck before he turns around to him. You can see the actual change in Eddie’s facial expression the moment they make eye contact. His eyes are sparkling and his smile widens to his special Buck smile. It’s complete and pure love that’s translated on Eddie’s face. Simple as that. That’s a man in love and there’s no other explanation for that. Now whether his heart knows it and his mind still needs time to catch up, or he’s fully aware, we don’t know yet. But the eyes, they never ever lie and you can see the love shining from Eddie’s eyes.
Tumblr media
All of this to win some steaks? Yeah you heard that. Eddie and his little puns weren’t lying when he said this was low steaks haha. I love how Buck is exasperated but Eddie is smug standing next to him. He even diverts to his usual love language of teasing when he tells the Chief Buck’s humor wasn’t affected by the lightning. Once again, their shared looks are so heated especially when Eddie’s looking at Buck when he’s not looking back. The Chief telling Eddie to leave his human calculator at the firehouse was hilarious because it was his idea to even bring Buck down to play poker and smoke everyone there. But Eddie’s a possessive and smug bastard so he got what he initially wanted and that was for his Buck to let loose and enjoy himself while he enjoyed watching him enjoy himself lol. I got to say, Eddie looking at Buck like this when he’s not looking back is making me feral. There’s heat there and he’s so smitten with Buck that it really shouldn’t be a secret to anyone who’s in their close vicinity. So if only Buck were to just turn around and really open his eyes, he’d have more answers to the questions he’s been looking for.
Tumblr media
Jealous Eddie Makes a Return
I really don’t understand why Buck and Eddie were the only two that accompanied Hen with the call to the couple found in a compromising position but I’m not complaining. It was hilarious in my opinion and it brought with it a return of jealous Eddie!! Once again you see mirroring come to play when they are listening to the husband try to explain what happened during their sexy night. The way both their hands go up at the same time and how they tilt their heads clearly shows they are so in sync with one another.
Tumblr media
When the husband brings up the statistics he read about how 80% of partners are not satisfied, we have Buck immediately use his newfound abilities to calculate all the women he has slept with. I love how Eddie immediately cuts him off. You can tell he did not want to hear about Buck's previous partners because he was exasperated but not in his usual fond way. The way he looks back at Hen and shakes his head is very much, "Can you believe he was about to talk about that in front of me?" Oh Eddie baby, that is not how best friends react when their best friend talks about previous partners. Nothing about Buck and Eddie is platonic as we all know and I love every time jealous Eddie makes a return because there is no other explanation that the fact that he is in love with Buck.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Buck and Christopher Bake Cookies
It is very important that the show tries to distinguish Buck and Christopher’s relationship separate to that of Eddie's if they want to audience to believe Buck can be the perfect partner to Eddie in all ways. We haven't gotten a Buck and Chris scene together in such a long time so it was nice to see them together without Eddie. And they weren't just doing anything. No they were doing such a domestic thing which was Buck making them dinner and then planning on baking cookies for Christopher's class. That is such a parental thing to do and I love that the show is trying to really highlight the difference in their relationship with each other verses what we saw earlier with Chimney and Denny.
B: So when I cook, I like to measure out all the ingredients. It uh makes me feel like an actual chef.
C: That makes me your sous chef.
B: Yes it does.
Tumblr media
Now something about the wording of this really stands out to me. Sure they are talking about baking but like they also may be implying something else at the same time. @ktinastrikesback had a very good point and I have to agree with her. It almost sounds like if you were to take out the words chef, it can be Buck implying that sometimes he feels like an actual dad, and that makes Christopher like his son. That analogy fits in this scenario so I am sticking with it.
I also mentioned in another post how this scene with just the two of this is very important for the general audience so that they can start understanding the importance of Buck in not only Eddie’s life but Christopher’s as well. The way they tease each other and how Buck looks at Christopher so proudly and with so much unbridled love really does seem like a father and son to me. And now the whole storyline of the sperm donation makes sense because they’re going to try to distinguish the fact that biology does not make someone a parent as we saw with Denny and his biological father as well. Buck is just as much Christopher’s dad as Eddie even though he’s not biologically related to him. So I can’t wait to see how the rest of the season unfolds but I do believe this is where it is heading. To Buck becoming more intertwined with the Diaz family and eventually becoming a romantic partner to Eddie and another parent to Christopher.
Tumblr media
Once again thank you to everyone who took the time to read this. I really think we’re on the way to Buddie going canon and I for one am very excited to see how the rest of the season plays out. We’re so close friends! If you’d like to be tagged when I post these weekly metas, please let me know here!

Prefacing this by saying this is not what I EXPECT to happen in 7x09 and 7x10, it's just one specific scenario that I feel particularly feral about right now... so with that said, I'm gonna throw out a dream scenario for the end of S7:
Tommy and Buck are dating and it's going well. Buck is just sort of blossoming in his new identity as a queer man. There's a self-confidence and assuredness to him that we haven't seen before
Meanwhile, Eddie has broken things off with Marisol and is quietly going through his own reevaluation of his sexuality. His awareness of his queerness happens pretty simultaneously with his realization that the way he loves Buck isn't entirely platonic, but he keeps it to himself because Buck is happy with Tommy
Episode 9 finds Eddie and Buck together off duty. Maybe they're having an argument. Maybe on the surface they're arguing about something small but somehow it feels much bigger
Mid-argument some emergency strikes. Buck and Eddie are trapped together and it's BAD. They're both in mortal peril, but it's worse for Eddie. Eddie hopes help will arrive in time to save Buck, but he's pretty sure he won't be alive to see it
(And I just want to stress - I feel like it's essential that they are off duty when this happens. They are in sync on the job, it's how they fit together outside of the job they're still figuring out)
So Eddie gets Buck's attention - because Buck hasn't given up yet. He won't. He CAN'T. He's frantically searching for solutions as Eddie repeats his name in a weakened voice, until finally he cracks and says, "Evan, please. I need you to hear this."
And in the final seconds of episode nine, Eddie Diaz looks Evan Buckley dead in the eye and tells him, "I love you"
Episode ten opens on an unrelated disaster, just to keep us gnashing our teeth a little longer
Maybe we throw some flashbacks in there for good measure
Check in on the rest of the firefam frantically trying to coordinate a rescue effort
But FINALLY they cut back to Buck and Eddie in mortal danger and replay the last few moments of episode 9. And believing these are the last words he'll ever say, Eddie tells Buck how much he loves him. He says he's sorry he realized it too late, but he could never, never regret loving him
Somehow there's a callback reference to Mitchell and Thomas, and the way Buck looked at their clasped hands as they died, and Buck realizing that dying together was never the point of their story. Living together was
And Buck is full sobbing and begging him not to give up yet because Christopher needs him and the team needs him and finally saying "and I need you, Eddie. You can't leave me. You can't-"
We get the sense that Buck is on the cusp of a love confession of his own, but before he gets the words out he's cut off by the sound of helicopter blades overhead.
Their miracle rescue arrives in time, led by none other than Buck's starting-to-be-something-serious boyfriend Tommy
After the rescue, we see Eddie in the back of the ambulance, stable and out of danger, and Buck's about to go over to him but Tommy comes running over and sweeps Buck up in his arms and kisses his temple and says, "thank god you're ok. I don't know what I'd do if I lost you"
And Buck lets himself be held, but his attention is over Tommy's shoulder looking at Eddie
Eddie, who's gonna be ok
Eddie, who loves him
Eddie, who is the absolute center of Buck's world, but Buck has never allowed himself to think of That Way
And Eddie meets Buck's eye over Tommy's shoulder and gives him a sad smile that lets Buck know he intends to go back to quietly loving Buck at just a little bit of a distance so that Buck can be happy with someone else
And just to really twist the knife, we get an overheard piece of dialogue in which Eddie refers to Buck as his "best friend" for the literal first time ever (I'm pretty sure? Up til now, any time the "best friend" label has been used it's been by Buck, but please correct me if I'm wrong.)
And the season ends there
Cue the entire fandom going APESHIT for the entirety of the summer hiatus

Costume meta 6x10
Costume metas are back baby!!!! I’m so happy to be back writing these - you have no idea how much i missed writing them. This one is not quite as full on as my normal metas and has taken me far longer than I’d intended - if you’ve been following my posts over the last couple of days you will be fully aware of my insanity spiral over the Eddie of it all (as well as poker Buddie!) so I hope you’ll forgive me - I’ve not had the mental capacity I normally do to dedicate to costume spiralling!
No Eddie this week as he only appeared in uniform 😭
A couple of more general things to point out - the use of Check - we see it on Nathaniel Greene and Phillip Buckley - which I think is a very interesting and loud choice considering this episode was all about fathers and fatherhood and the two fathers who are not all that (Mr Han is also in that number but his grey on grey suit was a deliberate choice that I will talk about in a minute) are the ones wearing check and tapping right on into my check theory!!! So Nathaniel is going to find himself in hot water very soon so the check is foreshadowing this for him. Philip (and Margaret as well actually!) in check is also foreshadowing whatever is about to go down with the Buckley parents (that happy family facade they’ve been putting on is about to crack big time!).
Grey is one of those colours that can be either warm grey (like we often see on Buck) or cool grey (which we have here on Mr Han) and that affects which meanings you attribute to it. Mr Han in double grey just about sums him up as a person - cold, conservative and controlling. Its also a colour that conveys gloom and frustration when worn in multiple like this, there is also the fact that ill people are often described as looking grey - which leads me to think that Mr Han being terminally ill is actually very likely!
The other thing I want to point out is the red harnesses - I know I don’t talk about the uniforms all that much except when there is something important an interesting in relation to them and this is very much that! Chim, Buck and Eddie are the ones we see in the red belt harnesses. Chimney removes his after Buck stakes his claim on it being his turn to go up the ladder and Chimney steps back from ladder detail. The reason I point this out is because its a very bright visual way of identifying and connecting both the fact that Chimney also has a red string of fate connected to Buck (I’m talking about family here and I know that technically all the firefam have strings of fate connecting them, but in this specific incidence its about the brotherly connection - the parallel to Kevin and Albert) which is relevant at that first moment but then the focus needs to shift. Eddie and Buck become the only ones distinguishable in the pouring rain - the only ones tied by that red string of fate - even when (and especially) when Buck is on the gurney.
over to our mains - below the cut to save your dashes!
Athena and May
I’m doing the two of them together this week because they are the costume version of yin and yang!
Tumblr media
The silk blouse has a monstera leaf print - monstera symbolises suffocation in western culture which is a perfect symbol for this story arc - suppressing of evidence or information because of money etc. the use of navy red and white is also interesting - its very much a hint towards patriotism - a deliberate choice to play into the upperclass America vibe they’re claiming to be part of!
Mays two main costumes are costumes themselves - they aren’t representative of who May is or her character, the are the clothes of the character she’s playing - Jada. As outfits for Jada - they are very much playing to type - teenager with issues who’s rebelling against straight laced parents - Both Athenas and Mays outfits work perfectly in sync with each other as the anthesis of the other. Mays are both in the same tonal range - burnt dusty reds, washed out blue greys and beiges - all in the same colour spectrum as Athenas ‘costume’ but tonally at the oposite end - where mays are dark and muted, Ahtenas are bright and bold
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
in the middle of the undercover work we get a reminder of who they really are - Athenas generally more muted palette - her comfort colour choices of black and olive khaki green, while May is back in her bold and bright blocks of colour. Perfectly summing up that while Athena is playing a role that is not a million miles away from who she is (and channeling a bit of Beatrice in the process because that blouse is a Beatrice blouse in every way!), Athena also tends to wear the olive khaki colour on top when she’s investigating something outside of work - and by this I don’t just mean full blown investigating, I also mean low key - clocking something is going on with a member of the extended firefam and she’s paying attention. May is at the opposite end of the spectrum from Jada! I’ve talked about May wearing this sugary bright pink before in season 5 and the scene here is somewhat of a parallel to the one in 5x15- youthful and considered feminine but also compassionate and caring. It is sensitive and intuitive. All things we see in this scene - May is using her intuition about Tamara and her being a ‘weak link’ that will get some information. We also see her showing compassion for Bobby in this scene.
Tumblr media
Bobby
keeping it simple for Bobby this week - just the one outfit and its supposed to essentially blend in with his uniform - we see him working on things related to the wildfire that Wendell died in both at the station while in actual uniform, and then at home with Athena and May (as an aside the fact that we see bobby with his family esp his stepdaughter and then with Buck and no other members of the fire fam is very telling!!) - it’s all signalling Bobby is in work mode even when he’s at home.
Tumblr media
Hen
If there was ever a cardigan to signal the fact that Hen is puzzled by Denny’s behaviour and new interests - this one is very definitely it - it literally has neutral face emojis all over it 😐😐😐 which are often used to convey mild irritation and concern - both things Hen is clearly feeling in this scene. Red is also a colour associated with both anger and and love - we know Hen loves Denny, but its very likely that there will be anger down the line when she discovers what Denny has been up to. This jumper also fits with my check theory - it is a big checkerboard - so its foreshadowing for the upcoming Denny issues!
Tumblr media
I’m going to say something here which is being used as a narrative device - Hen is wearing maroon, because she is in the ‘male’ or ‘father’ parent role at this moment - I don’t prescribe to the concept of queer parents fitting into gender stereotypes of parenting (that theres a fatherly one and a motherly one!) nor do I believe sport is a fathers domain but in this particular instance the wardrobe team are playing into a costume theme they’ve developed - namely that maroon is the colour worn when (mostly male) characters are being fatherly in someway. It is implied in this scene and the one in the firehouse, that Hen is the one who has been the one mostly supporting Denny in his sporting interests - football (sorry soccer - Im British its football 😂) initially and now she wants to be supportive in his baseball interest.
Not a costume thing, but I think its interesting and its costume adjacent, but I love the fact they’ve chosen two very different sports - one played with hands, the other with feet and the one Denny is taking up is the one where curveballs are a thing!
Tumblr media
Denny
Or should I be calling him ‘D’??
we have this blue and black shirt - I have to confess my brain went off in 6 different directions on this one. Firstly there is the fact that its not that disimilar to what Christopher is wearing when Eddie catches him talking to his friends online late at night - the colours are different but the use of patterning is similar and the fact that Chris and Denny have paralleling story arcs is very 👀👀 It also ties Denny in with Hen as she also wears a lot of patterning similar to this. then there is the fact its black and blue - what is the first thing you think of when you say black and blue - being beaten up - potentially foreshadowing - not necessarily for a physical beating, more likely for the psychological bruising ahead. there is also the Rorschach test and camouflage elements as well. All in all its a shirt that speaks of secrecy pyschological trauma and trouble ahead!
Tumblr media
This tee has me feeling all levels of insane. We have green for growth and renewal- its a bright green too, so its really reenforcing that idea. Then there is the design - a leopard in a jungle setting which is so many metaphors all rolled into one - the obvious ones of the jungle being dangerous, leopards not changing their spots and hiding in pain sight. But there are a few others - camouflage, the fact that leopards are nocturnal and solitary, they are also opportunistic. Then theres the jungle - jungles as well as being dangerous places, are also dense and in places impenetrable, they are overgrown and tangled. All of these things speaks volumes about what is going on with Denny right now, and the fact that he’s getting himself deeper and deeper into the jungle where opportunistic animals are waiting to strike. It a really clever use of imagery in graphic tee design to convey information and its something the show does a lot with the kids clothing!
Tumblr media
Chimney
some really interesting stuff going on with Chimney in this episode - namely the fact that he’s wearing check - all the time, as well as the fact we get him in this lovely burnt orange colour!
Starting with the check - I’ve said it a million times and I’ll probably say it a million more, but the check is foreshadowing trouble ahead - in this instance its the unexpected arrival of the Han’s. The button down shirt under the jumper is maroon and burnt orange check - maroon is the colour of fatherhood in 911 verse so the maroon is a nod to that, both the fact that Chimney is a father (and a good one), but also that his father is the trouble ahead! While the orange - well orange is the colour of optimism, enthusiasm and emotional strength - the perfect colour for Chim in this scene - he’s being optimistic about what having the Buckleys to visit will be like - that together he and Maddie can get through anything. This opening outfit for 6b also shows us that Chim is in a much stronger place - things are going well for him - life is good and that has given him confidence and placed him in a better place emotionally.
Tumblr media
then we get this blue check button down shirt - its light blue and a darker blue, and again the check is portending doom. I don’t want to make this all about Buck, (becasue it isn’t) but, the fact we see Chim in a blue check specifically while the Buckleys and Hans argue over Bucks sperm donation is super interesting. Its not only foreshadowing that Buck - who is also in blue, is about to come to harm in the place that was very nearly chimneys (as inBuck going up the ladder instead of Chim). It is also hinting at the fact that Chimney and his father (who is incidentally also in a blue shirt) are on a collision course. This check is about foreshadowing the two opposite disasters/ issues heading Chimneys way - the fact that he is about to potentially lose a brother - and one that has taken the place he was supposed to be in. That Chimney is going to have to reckon with the guilt and grief that causes - making this shirt about Chim’s connection to Buck but also connected to the idea of another man raising a child - much of Chimneys trauma stems from that very issue - he was raised by Mr Lee, had Kevin who was a brother in all but blood - who died in a work related accident and now he’s going to go through the same thing with Buck. the whole thing is setting up for Chimneys trauma to come and hit pretty hard - which all goes back to his own blood father - which is why we see Buck and Sang in the two very different blues and chimney in the check of both of them.
Tumblr media
Maddie & Jee-Yun
Maddie going for full on black is such a choice! Black is a power colour, its sophisticated and mysterious, while also being authoritative and protective. It is also a colour of rebirth which is really important here for Maddie. This is a Maddie who is in the best possible place right now, but her choice to wear all black for the arrival of her parents is all about her wanting to but on a display of power while at the same time protecting herself and her family (Chim, Jee and Buck) its very much fake it till you make it - its not necessarily about her having power/control (which she does), but about the appearance of it.
This is about her rebirth as a person and as a mum and her showing that rebirth to those who have judged her in her life.
Tumblr media
the purple suit and bright blue top are an interesting choice. The jewel tones exude happiness and contentment. I’ve spoken before about how we often see characters in these brighter versions of colours when they’re in a good place or having fun (think of the times we’ve seen Athena in bright jewel colours, or even Buck) and here we see Maddie embracing that her daughter is having fun with her grandparents and her family is all together and not fighting or distant from one another - don’t forget this is likely the fist time she has experienced this ever. The purple blazer is in line with other things we’ve seen on Maddie this season - we’ve seen her in bright purple before. Purple is a really interesting choice to me because so much of its meaning is connected to mystery, but also the understanding of ones self better, building and strengthening emotional connections to our deepest thoughts and desires. its such a choice for this scene - the happy family Maddie wants, has wanted all her life and hasn’t had in her grasp until now, but also the Daniel of it all - that she is now free to talk about her brother, to share her knowledge of him and that she has been able to actually sit in her grief and come to terms with it. It’s a really powerful choice for her and speaks so much about how far Maddie has come.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Look I love love love what the show does with the kids clothes - its always so on point for the scene - and this Baby Jee tee is no exception. ‘Shapes I know’ - a literal point at the fact that families can look different - they come in different shapes and thats something Jee ‘knows’ and is experiencing. It’s literally one of the cornerstones of he show - that families look different and come in a multitude of shapes and sizes and in this scene the show is very much pointing out that the Buckley parents and Han parents don’t really understand that in any great depth. The Buckleys are only being supportive and nice when it suits them - when they’re in front of others and can be judged - creating a fantasy of a loving and supportive family to the outside world - while behind closed doors - they’re not really interested and are in fact the complete opposite. The Han’s have a very rigid view on family and that there is only one type of family (I’m expecting Sang Han to make some comment about Jee being born outside of marriage etc at some point) and anything that doesn’t conform to that isn’t acceptable.
Buck
I so desperately wan to quiz the wardrobe department on the choice to have Buck in trousers that sit two inches above his ankle.
You can’t see them in either of these pictures, but Buck is still wearing trousers far too short for his legs and its making me insane. I know Oliver has stupidly long legs, but its not like they don’t have the budget to get trousers made and tailored to fit him. I mean its been this way since season 2 and everything is intentional so they must have decided on it as a character thing but I for one cannot figure out what its supposed to tell us about him - the only thinking I’ve managed to come up with is that he’s stuck in this liminal space between child and adult - not really one or the other (because of the saviour baby and not knowing about it of it all) so its a play on the historic idea of breeching and short trousers! It’s literally the only reason I can think of as to why they would do this. Especially because the outfit he is wearing in his coma dream he’s wearing trousers that fit his leg length which only proves to me that its intentional!
If we see Buck figure things out this season and we then see him start wearing longer trousers going forwards - ones that are actually the right length for his legs I might actually ascend to the astral plane!!!
Tumblr media
This green top continues the theme of seeing Buck in either blues or this light green shade - it echoes both the polo shirt from 6x07 when he made his donation, and the one he wore to the Ren Faire in 6x08 and continues to prove my theory about the use of these green shirts on Buck - the colour might not have gotten darker, but the fact its still the same light shade and we’ve had no further progress (in terms of where Buck is at mentally - the pregnancy is obviously progressing!) at this point in time - we know he’s wearing gree ni the coma - and its a darker/brighter shade - hinting that progress- growth etc is happening and that the coma will be the catalyst for that growth to start - I fully expect to see Buck in more green as the season progresses and to see it getting deeper and brighter as we go along.
I have so many thoughts about this dark navy blue shirt we see Buck wearing for the Buckley-Han showdown. Its yet more Buck in shades of blue - forget 50 shades of grey Buck is all about 50 shades of blue (I think were up to 12 blue tops now for him this season and the next highest colour he wears is green with 3)!!  theres the uniform aspect of it all - a bit like Bobby in this episode as well, but for Buck its almost like wearing the uniform gives him confidence and strength - superhero style - something he feels he needs to go through another experience with his parents.
There is something to be said about the use of blues at opposite ends of the spectrum on Buck - from the light pastel blues to this dark navy almost black blue, almost like Buck is oscillating between where he’s at mentally - projecting confidence, reliability, loyalty and trustworthiness, while also suggesting that internally he is struggling - blue is also a colour depression and suppression. We have to remember that Buck is still trying to figure out who he is, what he wants and how to be at ease with himself and so the use of both dark and light blues speaks of the duality of Buck right now. I bring this up because looking back through my costume plots for each character its become obvious that this season its very much deliberate - all his blue outfits in previous seasons have been within a much smaller spectrum of colour - wearing blue but all similar in shade - tending toward bright blue or navies!
Tumblr media
If you’ve made it to the end then I thank you - have a cookie on me 🍪🍪🍪 we all deserve them after that episode and we’re going to need out strength for next weeks!!
I hope you’ve enjoyed my deep dive ramblings on costume for 6x09 - drop me a reblog or a comment to let me see your thoughts - I love reading them!!
As always tagged people below - if anyone wants to be added (or removed from) to the list please let me know in the comments!
Until next week (when I have a feeling I might be being set up for a very very long meta post 😬😬😬)

Let's see...
In first fifteen minutes we get:
Buck and Eddie working together, no weird energy or separation, they're in sync
Eddie shirtless
Buck asking Eddie what plans he has for the weekend because he found a place to go go-karting in the desert (desert = solo, dry, alone basically which makes you wonder)
The minute dating comes up (Eddie turning down Buck's offer to hang out), Eddie starts covering up/dressing
The minute Eddie mentions he has another date with Marisol, Buck covers up
When Eddie mentions Natalie, Eddie is still buttoning up his shirt
Eddie and Christopher both have dates
Math is mentioned again
Eddie and Marisol are going well (shocker)
Buck has already broken up with Natalia offscreen (having finally realized in character what we all did back in the very ooc last two episodes of season 6) - (my wondering from above is over)
Buck broke up with Natalia because she only wanted to talk about his death and Eddie puts a hand on thee shoulder (from 3x03 - this whole moment is a total callback, even with Eddie looking him in he eye and leaving) and welcomes him back to the living, telling him he was missed
Buck gets that smile that he usually gets around Eddie after Eddie walks out
These partner dynamics back to back: Buddie, Madney, Bathena

A bit bummed buddie is going canon on such a short season but the writers are doing an awesome job (and you guys have waited long enough I just got here lol) so I’m stoked!!! There’s some much potential for fun storylines here I’m so excited!! What are some storylines you’d like to see once they are together? Could be comical or more series
Well, I mean I guess it depends on what your definition of "canon" is. To me, based on the last episode alone, they're already canon (meaning it's basically irrefutable to me that they're going to eventually be in a relationship or be endgame). If by canon you mean "starting a relationship" I actually don't think that's going to happen this season. I think it'll be next season at the earliest. I do have faith that now that the writers/creators are getting a bit more freedom, they're first going to put Buck and Eddie through the personal arcs they need to go through first. For Buck, realizing he's bi and feeling more secure in who he is as a person. For Eddie, realizing he's lived with comphet his entire life and finally accepting who he is and finally living his life in a way that will actually make him happy.
Once they've done that then they'll be able to get them together.
Some things I'd like to see:
-(This might be unpopular but) I want the sperm donor stuff/ Connor/Kameron to come back up. I want Buck to reckon with that choice he made, and truly recognize that he's been a father figure to Chris this whole time. I don't need the baby to be in his life, but just a reference or even a run-in with Connor/Kameron. Something to put a bookend on that storyline now that Buck is settled with Eddie/Chris.
-Chris wants to learn to drive/get a license, and Eddie + Buck have to navigate that worry together
-My heart's biggest desire is for them to just work side by side like normal but just have more small moments that very obviously are indicators that they're together (something along the lines of the scene where Eddie suddenly knew a bunch of fun facts about Goat Yoga, or the scene where they're just chatting while they patched up the dude who broke his leg in the fire at dispatch). Scenes where they work in sync together, but maybe before something dangerous, they share looks or have a private code that means be safe.
-in the same vein MY KINGDOM for Buck and Eddie to have a scene like Bathena had in 2x01 where they meet up between the firetrucks and one of them pushes the other up against the side of the truck and kisses him. My entire life would be made.
-I would like a storyline where Buck gets to meet Eddie's family from Texas a little better. I don't believe that there wouldn't be conflict with them (maybe not straight-up homophobic but I just can't imagine Helena accepting it all so easily. I just know she'd be a queen of microaggressions). I DESPERATELY need Eddie to stand up for himself to his mom in particular.
-(this would be very far in the future) but I want Buck to eventually go out for fire captain. I think he would be a great fit and I think it'd be very interesting for them to have to adjust to such a big change in their work dynamic after X amount of years.
-a motherfucking WEDDING. And I don't want it to be a small thing like a backyard wedding, or a courtroom wedding, or an elopement in the hospital or something. It doesn't necessarily need to be HUGE but I would like a semi-traditional wedding. Idk why but I have a MIGHTY NEED to hear Buck and Eddie's personalized vows to each other and I NEED to see them have their first dance. Honestly, I take back the traditional wedding thing. As long as I get to hear every word of their vows and see them slow dance, they could do it at the firehouse or a dumpster for all I care.
-I'd be interested if Shannon's relatives show up and want to be a part of Christopher's life or something. Or even like, just want to visit him but Eddie's unsure because it brings up bad memories and stuff. I'd be interested to see Shannon's relative's reaction to Eddie with a man.
-OOHOOHOOH EDDIE CHILDHOOD SCENES a la Buck Begins. I want to see what he was like when he was younger to see how much of him has changed since he had Chris, since he went to the military, etc. Dear God I want an Eddie Begins Again.
That's all for now! I gotta make my drive home!

[Previous snippet from Several Sentences Sunday linked here.]
____________
I'm excited to finish writing Chapter 21 because there are only 7 days left until Buck and Eddie get married.
For anyone who hasn't read Chapter 20, here's a brief overview: Eddie completed his Paramedic Certification Course and he started planning a surprise for their wedding evening, night and the morning after. Buck asked his bio dad if they could meet in-person while they're in London. Eddie and Buck had an important early morning conversation about the way they'll make decisions for their family. They went to the Italian Consulate in Los Angeles with their two witnesses and now they have all the legalized documents they'll need to get married in Rome. Also, they tied up a lot of loose ends by verifying their 'To Do' Lists along with reviewing all of their documents.
Buck and Eddie will tie the knot before Christmas 2023 but they are NOT getting married in the U.S. and they won't have a wedding ceremony until May 2024. They've revealed their relationship, their engagement and the fact that they're going to Europe to their found family during the 118's Thanksgiving dinner (Chapter 17), to Eddie's parents, his sisters, his abuela and Tia Pepa (Chapter 18) and Buck told the Buckley parents he's getting married and that he has a son (Chapter 19). Only three people know they're getting married in 7 days and they are Chris, Carla and Malone. They told Carla and Malone (Chapter 19) because they asked them to be their witnesses at the Italian Consulate and they told Chris (Chapter 20) that evening after they got the "Atto Notorio" (Declaration) signed but no one else knows.
Now that Buck and Eddie have their signed Declaration and everything else is in place, will they be able to leave Los Angeles Friday afternoon headed to Rome, Italy without anyone else finding out they're getting married in Chapter 21?
___________
Here's a snippet from Chapter 21 of Buck and Eddie being romantically fluffy and intimate while they're in the loft for the last time.
__________
While he positions Eddie so that he’s standing in the same spot he stood in that night, Eddie raises his eyebrows at him but he doesn’t say anything.  Even as Buck attempts to recreate one of their emotionally intimate encounters, he notices they’re still in sync because Eddie automatically leans his back against the counter like he knows what’s going to happen next.
Buck shakes his head because other than the fact that the loft is completely empty now and they’re both a few years older, Eddie’s even more beautiful than he was back then.  The only major difference between that night and now in Eddie’s appearance is he’s not wearing his hair buzzed cut anymore.
He leans against the edge of the island that’s directly in front of him and situates himself so that he’s in the same half standing and half sitting position he was in all those years ago.  He lowers his head, smiles then lifts it and gives Eddie the same cocky and confident grin he wore back then and it’s laced with a challenge just like it was that night in November 2019.
He knows he’s playing with fire but he’s ok with it because they’re engaged now, they’re getting married in 4 days and he’s 100% certain any challenge he presents in this moment, will be fulfilled on their wedding night.
Eddie tilts his head to the side and in a playful tone of voice, he asks, “My love, what are you doing?”
With a coy smile, Buck replies, “Surely you remember everything that happened the night after the lawsuit.  You know… it was right after Halloween.  We made up and I apologized for not being there for you and Chris.”
He fondly rolls his eyes like he doesn’t remember but the truth is he does except he doesn’t want Buck to know, so he questioningly raises one of his eyebrows and waits for him to continue.
“You were standing right there… um exactly where you are right now and you were holding your bottle of Genuine beer.  I was right here and while we were talking, I said, “I thought for sure that day in the grocery store you were going to take a swing at me.”  And then you said, “But you didn’t deserve it.  I wouldn’t do that… you’re on blood thinners.”
Eddie slowly nods, then he gives Buck a once over like he did that night as he looks at him from his feet to his head and replies, “I do and if I’m remembering correctly, I think you said something about taking me”.
Buck raises his eyebrows.  “You’re right… I did say that.  And I know I still can… take you that is.”
With a big devious smile, Eddie asks, “You still think so?”
“I knew then and I know now!”  He admits, then he stands up to his full 6’2-inch height, strolls over and stands next to his fiancé, looks him up and down with his hand where his belt buckle would be if he was wearing one and asks, “You want to go for the title?”
Eddie confidently chuckles but he doesn’t take his eyes off his fiancé. He raises up from the counter, moves so close to him that their lips are mere millimeters apart, he wraps his arms around Buck’s waist then he leans in and places a soft kiss onto Buck’s lips that makes Buck shiver.  He wants to feel him do it again, so he kisses him once more then he talks against his lips and says, “On September 2nd, I won something more valuable than the title to that video game.”
Buck already knows the answer to the question he’s going to ask and even though he’s breathless from simply looking at the love of his life, he whisper asks, “Oh yeah… what did you win?”
What did Eddie win on September 2nd and how is he going to respond to Buck's question? 👀

Chapter 7 - After Buck’s mental breakdown, Eddie has his back the same way Buck had his when he had his own breakdown more than a year ago.  They share several vulnerable and emotionally intimate moments with one another and they begin to realize their small, sweet and caring gestures matter just as much if not more than any grand gesture ever could because these are the foundations of a long-lasting love relationship.

Chapter 10 - As Buck and Eddie finally begin to confront their past traumas, they realize how much they need each other to fill in the gaps of their memories.  Additionally, the universe screams at them for what appears to be the one hundredth time so Buck can realize he doesn’t have to ‘find it’ because he already ‘made it’ and Eddie’s reminded tomorrow isn’t promised and he doesn’t have to die alone if he doesn’t want to.
Chapter 11 - A “virga” or dry thunderstorm is in the forecast but once the rain starts, the thunderstorm happening outside won’t be able to match the storm brewing inside between Buck and Eddie.  It’s the universe’s final scream and when the tumultuous winds begin to blow, they’ll have one last chance to hold onto everything they’ve built over the last six years or they’ll lose it all forever.
Chapter 12 - Buck and Eddie have always shared a deep physical attraction and an emotional intimacy that’s unmatched but now that they’re in a relationship, they’re learning how to navigate the romantic intimacy they’ve been waiting for six years to explore. The love they have for each other is a once in a lifetime, soulmate, love of their lives type of love that transcends space and time.
Chapter 13 - While navigating the newness of their romantic relationship, Buck and Eddie take advantage of every moment they spend together. As their individual lives, people from their pasts, time constraints and the possibility of losing each other again make attempts to interrupt and interfere with their journey to forever, they love, care for, support and hold onto each other even tighter to withstand it all.
Chapter 14 - Buck and Eddie can see the lights at the end of the tunnels regarding the results of Buck’s Cancer Screening along with everything else they’re dealing with. But are the lights they see exits to the tunnels or are they headlights on different runaway trains that are speeding towards them in an effort to interrupt their forever?
Chapter 15 - Buck and Eddie have known they were exactly who the other one wanted in a partner since they met six years ago when they agreed to have each other’s backs. They’re in a romantic relationship, they’re both preparing to ask the other one to spend forever with them and by the end of the seventh week into their relationship, together they will plan their most important and greatest adventure for their future.
Chapter 16 - As Buck and Eddie begin to prepare for their marriage ceremony that will take place in Rome, Italy in December 2023, they start planning their first international adventure as a romantic couple. Even though Chris is still the only person they’ve told about their relationship, several people who know them have already witnessed the love they share and as the days continue, others will witness it too.
Chapter 17 - As Buck and Eddie get closer to departing Los Angeles for their international adventure, a moment in time will remind them; life is fragile, tomorrow isn’t promised and every second of everyday should be cherished because everything can change in an instant. The result of that realization will cause them to hold onto each other even more.
Chapter 18 - As Buck, Eddie and Chris prepare for family gatherings before and during the Thanksgiving holiday, the “Santa Ana Winds” start to blow and all sorts of expected and unexpected familial drama ensues.
Chapter 19 - As Buck and Eddie get closer to their wedding day, the universe begins to align everything so that some of their parent and children's relationships are strengthened while others come to an abrupt end.
Chapter 20 - With only 14 days remaining until Buck, Eddie and Chris depart Los Angeles, CA traveling to Rome, Italy, for their first family adventure, an early morning conversation about “tying up loose ends” helps Buck and Eddie realize there are still several things left unfinished on their ‘To Do’ lists. The question is will there be enough time to complete all of them?

Buddie 516 meta
Tumblr media
I just loved that this ep was full of parallels which pointed out how someone can be another person’s father even without being biologically related to them, it’s all about the care, protectiveness and willingness to risk everything to save their kid. That was Bobby in this ep, wanting to go all protective over May when Claudette was giving her a hard time at dispatch, just like Buck was ready to go feral when he thought the camp might not be good for Chris in 318. Then we had Bobby willing to throw his life away to save May, just as Buck did when he jumped from the firetruck into the water during a tsunami to save Chris at the end of 302. I know it’s almost redundant to say, “Buck is Christopher’s dad” at this point, but he really is, and that even an ep without Chris highlights this is just a whole different level of insane.
Tumblr media
~~~
BATTLEFIELD BOYFRIENDS RIDE AGAIN! That’s it, that’s the tweet. WE HAVE OUR BATTLEFIELD BOYFRIENDS BACK. No, wait, THEY have THEIR BATTLEFIELD BOYFRIENDS BACK. Being perfectly in sync, with zero personal space, having each other’s back in the face of the greatest of dangers. And all is right with the world again! *hearts* ~~~
Tumblr media
I loved Linda noticing that Eddie isn’t truly happy at dispatch and being encouraging of him going back to what he’s meant to do. We’re slowly coming full circle, Buck telling Eddie in 406 that the universe is screaming at him, Carla telling Eddie in 413 to make sure he’s following his own heart and now Linda telling him that God has spoken. Eddie has found his place again, he didn’t deny her words, he simply smiled happily and ran right to where he belonged, by Buck’s side.
Tumblr media
~~~
I have to admit, when Josh and Carson were awkwardly flirting, I was already smiling so much, because I just knew this was going to lead to the scene we did get, the one I ended up giffing here. Gay love enabled Buddie to work together as seamlessly as always, despite how long it’s been since they were last partnered up and since it’s been MONTHS since Eddie actually worked as a firefighter, and gay love is how they could locate Carson, it was thanks to Josh’s crush on him. 911 looked us all right in the eyes and said, “Yep. Gay love saves the day.” Oh, but I especially loved that after I clocked that, we even got a scene of Eddie encouraging Josh to go after Carson, I mean how is this real? Josh could have had that conversation with Linda or Sue, it didn’t have to be Eddie himself, but this show really took one look at this repressed man and intentionally juxtapositioned him with yet another queer man who’s at the moment too scared to admit to himself who he truly wants and go after it. ~~~
Tumblr media
I loved that even though Bobby initially teamed up Lucy with Buck, the second it’s clear to him that things are worse than they previously looked, he teamed Buddie right back up. Oh, is Eddie not actually an active firefighter? Is it probably against strict regulations to use him on a scene where he’s one of the vics? Bobby doesn’t care. He needs his team to do their best, and that means Buck needs Eddie with him. It’s just a law of nature at this point. ~~~
Tumblr media
I mentioned that Buck was paralleled with Bobby as parents who are willing to put their lives on the line for their kids, but there’s one more parallel in this ep when it comes to him. Remember how Buck has always been willing to risk himself to save Eddie? Like during the shooting in 414 or when Hen chided Buck in 315 that if they let him go down to get Eddie, they’ll just end up with two cut lines? So just consider how Josh wanted to go help find Carson despite not having any of the needed experience or training, simply because he was romantically driven to… ~~~
Tumblr media
Speaking of Josh/Carson being Buddie-adjacent in this ep, it was impossible to miss how even when injured, Carson still felt the need to comment on his rescuers’ obvious chemistry, telling them, “You guys should take this act on the road.” I just wanna point out, it was Buck who was babbling, the show could have had Carson be sassy at him specifically, but nope, we got yet another comment about Buddie as a pair. And much like with TK in the LS crossover ep, it seems Buck and Eddie simply can’t cross paths with a gay guy without 911 giving Buddie fans a small wink… ~~~
Tumblr media
I loved this ep’s theme of fixing all of these different things that have gone wrong in the past: Bobby got to have a fix with May when he couldn’t save his own kids in the fire, Chim got to save Albert after he couldn’t do anything for Kevin, Josh (who used to be so trusting in s3 but was abused by a man who was supposed to be a romantic date and turned out to be a creep) came across a guy who at first seemed shifty but then turned out to be really sweet and sorta crushing on Josh, the 118 got to repay Bobby for his leadership and for turning them into a team (Chim even says as much explicitly), and that was a fix in itself for the way that the team came apart in 5a with Chim and Eddie leaving. But that also includes a particular fix, since Chim had already returned to the team, this was also specifically Eddie getting to return to his family. He made a mistake in 510, he quit instead of communicating with his son or figuring out his own trauma that led him to this move, and now that he’s spent much needed time opening up to Buck and going to therapy, he gets to smile at Linda and run to his family, taking his natural place among them. This is especially heightened by the musical choice playing while Bobby is pulled out from the rubble, when the team works together. It’s not just about all of them as a group, it’s also about Eddie’s story. In 315 we heard the song “Carry You” playing out as he was realizing he has a new family to fight and always return to, and in 516, he got to do precisely that. ~~~
Speaking of the Bobby and May rescue, we get a beautiful shot of just the original team hugging right after Bobby is pulled out, because THAT is the real family they chose. And we get another gorgeous shot when the 118 walk together at the end of the rescue, Buck and Eddie on either side of Bobby, holding him up, May there as well, a true family in every sense (Lucy being separated from the rest of he firefighters by May not only leaves Lucy on the farthest end, it also makes her seem like the only one who’s not quite a part of the team). And Taylor? She’s on the other side completely looking at them, a reversal of how Eddie was on the outside looking in during the pub scene in 511. But while Linda is also on the outside, we get a clear close up of her looking at the team, smiling. She knows these people belong together. She’s where she’s supposed to be, and she truly cares about Eddie’s well-being and happiness, so Linda can be supportive from the outside, she can bask in the team’s closeness and joy about being together, rather than take issue with it.
Tumblr media
Taylor, who’s right next to her, is looking at the 118 as well, we don’t get a close up of her, which somewhat obscures her expression. To whatever degree I could close in on it, it remained pretty ambiguous and open to interpretation. Was Taylor trying to smile, or did she stretch her mouth in sarcastic displeasure? It’s not quite clear. But the contrast with Linda’s evident joy says something about how threatened Taylor is by Buck obviously belonging with a group of people she has no real place with. This happens even before she sees Buck and Lucy talking.
When she does spot them, I don’t think Taylor realizes it’s Lucy who Buck kissed, I think she’s simply threatened because of the heteronormative concept which believes men and women can’t be just friends. Couple that up with how Taylor is aware of the 118’s meaning to Buck and boom, you get classic jealousy. TBH, when Taylor approached Lucy and started talking to her about how important the team is to Buck, implying Taylor thinks Buck is most likely to find his true romantic partner in one of his family members, all my brain could do was scream, “Eddie!” Because Taylor is spelling it all out! She’s threatened by the idea of someone who Buck might find attractive and who also works in great (and intense) proximity with him. We already know, thanks to the introduction scene in 201 and the whole “He’s so cute” mix up in 206 that Buck DOES find Eddie attractive. The show is literally making Buck’s gf feel threatened because of a combo that most truly applies to Eddie out of anyone who’s ever crossed Buck’s path. But if that’s not enough, while Taylor was being awful to Lucy (and to Buck, insinuating that if Taylor loses her bf, she will cause trouble for him with his colleagues/FAMILY), in the background we see Buck noticing that those two are talking to each other. Now, at the end of 514 we already had this slight hint of panic from Buck at Taylor merely mentioning Lucy’s name. So we know he’s scared about this exact scenario! But does he go over to see what’s going on and try to do some damage control if need be? Nope. Because he’s next to Eddie, talking to his husband after finally being together in the field again, and that just matters more. IDK what to say, other than that we’ve been shown repeatedly during all of s5 how much more Eddie matters to Buck than the man’s own gf does, but this scene literally spelled it out. Buddie canon when, Tim?
~~~ Thank you to the lovely @whosoldherout and @judsonryder for the help with the gorgeous gifs! And thank you to anyone who reads this. Any show of support, any sharing of this post so others can see it as well, is very much appreciated! xoxox
reach my hand through time (hold your hand so tight)
For @evanbucxley 💛
“Look.” Hen has her serious face on. “I don’t know what happened between you two, Buck hasn’t told me much either, but—”
“It was mutual.”
Hen and Karen exchange looks. They’re so in sync and in love and Eddie’s chest doesn’t ache so much as it throbs, sharply, like his heart has been wrung.
“Eddie,” Hen says, the way she would say honey, all warm and gentle, and Eddie’s eyes sting traitorously. “We’re not saying it wasn’t mutual.”
“We’re just saying the misery about it seems pretty mutual too,” Karen adds.
In which Buck and Eddie breakup, get back together, and adopt a cat. In exactly that order.
Eddie isn’t moping.
He doesn’t mean that defensively: he’s pretty sure moping is just too light a word for how utterly, pathetically heartbroken he feels. He goes to sleep heartbroken, wakes up heartbroken, cooks dinner heartbroken.
“You look sad,” Christopher tells him, and Eddie almost cries into his cheesy broccoli because the follow up question is: “When is Buck coming back?”
“We talked about this, Chris.”
They did, the both of them together, and until that moment sitting in the living room with Chris between them, the breakup didn’t feel quite real.
Christopher frowns, poking at his own broccoli. “But you love him.”
Eddie’s throat is so tight he’s not sure how he manages to speak to answer. “It’s not that simple, bud.”
They’re trying hard to keep things normal for Christopher: dinners, and movie nights, and Buck picking him up from school, then staying to work through his science homework before Eddie takes over for English. So much the same, except now Buck leaves at the end of the night, when he used to climb into bed beside Eddie.
“That’s what Buck said,” Chris grumbles, the broccoli massacred on his plate. Then, almost accusing, almost pleading: “He looks sad too.”
Eddie’s heart splinters and splinters and splinters. He can feel the shards being pumped around his body, painful and unforgiving, shredding him apart from the inside out. It would be easier, he thinks, if his heart would just shatter completely, the pain there and gone in one fell swoop. But instead it’s like a beloved broken mug, fumbled and dropped and cracked down the middle but not shattered, broken just enough that it hurts more, holding it in your hands and knowing how close you were to not losing it all.
Each night, Eddie lies awake thinking about all the things they could have done differently. Better. The choices they made and the ones they didn’t. The words they should have said and the ones they can never take back. He thinks about the way Buck last kissed him, a hand on his hip to hold him back before they walked into the station, Eddie’s hand fisting in the front of his jacket, both of them too messy and raw for the parking lot ahead of a twenty-four hour shift.
He thinks: Buck knew, then.
And then he thinks: so did I.
And it hurts, the way things do when you’re heartbroken and not sure you have any right to be.
the choice to reuse carry you is absolutely unhinged the more i think about it. because the last time it was used in Eddie Begins. At the climax of the episode when Eddie is fighting to get back to his family, in a montage that is about Chris, and Buck. The family he chose. In the moment when he doesn't give up. The moments that lead him to putting Buck in his will. The moment that was just referred to in 5x14.
And now in 5x16 it is used for a moment that has been building since at least the zoo animal call (but also really since Buck Begins cause the zoo animal call was not a big moment™️). When after a tumultuous year they are all together again. After Bobby has faced losing his daughter again, after Chimney faced losing his brother again. After Eddie has physically broken down and has started healing. After Buck and Eddie have fallen back perfectly in sync. When they are fighting for the man that "runs the operation". Fighting for their family. The Family they chose.
waitttt queen of all things Oliver social media. What do you mean you’ve noticed a new pattern?!? I want to know please. Are you doing another part to the SM post???
Look all I’m saying is that Oliver was teasing us nonstop whenever he would film with Ryan last season right?! But it wasn’t giving much away and we only knew this bc my insane ass was analyzing his shit and noticed the pattern. Well I’ve been documenting everything he’s been posting and the things he’s purposefully not. I’m also taking into account the days he’s on set, the times and who he can possibly be filming with. Now I stand by the theory that something has definitely shifted between Buck and Eddie. And I believe Oliver knows if he were to share anything, then it would be giving away too much, especially if most of his scenes are with Ryan. Now we know they’ve been filming and before Oliver would’ve just shared any bts which would alert us that he’s filming with Ryan. Now he can’t bc he’s always filming with Ryan and that would just confirm to all of us there’s a lot of Buck and Eddie moments happening. They wanna keep this somewhat under wraps. But it also explains why they finally followed each other back again and why not the social media team is very adamant in using both men to promote the season. Something is different. Something has changed. Even looking at their body language in all the bts we’ve seen. Their chairs are next to each other, they’re sleeping faced towards each other. They are SO IN SYNC that it literally confirms how much time they’re spending together on screen. I will go more in depth about all of this in my next Oliver SM post but this is just some of what I’ve noticed.
top 5 911 episodes 👀
NINA I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO ANSWER THIS FOR LEGIT HOURS!!!!!!
there's SO many good episodes you know this alsksjdhduwua, these are NOT in order bc this was hard enough😭😅
1. the searchers (s3 ep3) - i don't need to explain why this is one of my favourite episodes, this was such an easy pick for the list. the whole tsunami arc really cemented this show as my favourite show, i was on edge the entire 3 episodes, the acting in it is sublime, and do NOT get me started on that last scene bc i will not stop!!!!! (if you know, you know, and i know you know nina!😏) this episode is the moment i realised i was going over the cliff with buddie and i couldn't stop it, even if i wanted to!
2. 911, what's your grievance? (s4ep4) - okay it was between this, buck begins and eddie begins. as much as i love the begins episodes, i chose this because of one scene; bucks "love me anyway" scene. i think about that scene at least twice a day, and every single time i watch it, it makes me tear up. we also get the adorable buddie being sherlock and watson scene!
3. survivors (s4ep14) - yeah i absolutely do not need any reasoning as to why this episode is here. the shooting, the will reveal, because, evan!!!!!!
4. may day (s5ep16) - seeing eddie being a firefighter again, and seeing him truly smile again for the first time was too much to handle, i was so emotional! not to mention sassy eddie (to josh), buddie rescuing the electrician together (you should take this act on the road!!!!), how they fell in sync seamlessly like they'd never stop working together and bobby saving may (he's my dad!!!😭) the episode had me so emotional and the twist I didn't see coming! (the death, not the jonah stuff cos we been knew that!)
5. hero complex (s5ep17) - this episode was absolutely anxiety inducing, i've never been so happy with how many adverts american tv has!! this episode really showcased hen and chims friendship, which truly is one of the best tv friendships ever, possibly one of the most evil things ive seen on tv (jonah, hen & chim scene), and on top of all that, we got to see sassy eddie again, & we saw him confront & reconcile with his dad! also shout out to domestic buddie (buck just chilling in the room for no reason while eddie packs, supporting him and giving him advice while playing with the dinosaur toy jfc they're really trying to kill us!)
i hope this list was worth the wait, it probably wasn't it's just me screaming about buddie, although honestly, this is why you follow me, not for concisely thought out questions or posts, just for me screaming into the void😅😅
Right Person At Maybe The Wrong Time- Chapter 6
Summary: Dinner with Evan and his girlfriend, how will it go?
Series Masterlist
Just a FYI I love Taylor Kelly as a character and i’m only making her a female dog for my story. She is honestly the definition of “Gatekeep, Gaslight, Girlboss”.
The day that I wasn't looking forward to was here. Alex was excited because she could finally meet her father's girlfriend. After all, I guess all Evan does is talk about her. I was getting ready to enter the building when I heard my name called behind me. I looked back, and there was Eddie and Christopher. Eddie looked nervous, and I won't lie, so was I. We haven't talked since the kiss at my house. "Hey Christopher, Eddie."
"Hey Y/N and Alex. It's nice to see you too. Can you guys give Y/n and I a minute to talk, please?" Alex looked to me for permission. "It's fine baby, run ahead." I turned to Eddie. "What's up?" Even though I knew what Eddie wanted to talk about. "I just wanted to say I'm sorry, and I hope this doesn't affect us. You're the mother of Buck's kid, and it was inappropriate of me to do that. Especially since I just met you." "And the fact that you have a girlfriend.” Which he seems to always forget. “It's fine Eddie, honestly. Plus, who's to say I didn't enjoy myself." After that, I sent him a wink and headed upstairs.
  I knocked on the door and the redhead named Taylor opened the door. "Hey Eddie, Christopher." She turned to Alex and me. "And you guys must be Y/N and Alexandria." "I like to be called Alex if you don't mind." "Of course not, please come in. Buck has made a lot of good food." She kindly pointed out. "Evan cooked? The last time, Evan tried to cook something at my house, my dad had to explain to a firefighter that he wasn't a mass arsonist." "Well, I guess that shows how little you guys know each other, now doesn't it."  I know this bitch didn't just go there.
Eddie came from behind me and gave me a comforting hand. "Hey Taylor where is Buck? I'm sure he would be happy to know we're here." Eddie came from out of the kitchen like candyman at the sound of his name. "I'm right here Eddie. I hope you guys are hungry." "Starving!" Said Alex and Christopher in sync.
Tumblr media
When I walked over to the dining room table, I noticed there were only six seats at the table. Evan and Taylor were seated together with Alex beside them to sit across from Christopher who was at the end of the table. That left a seat next to Eddie as the only option. Eddie must have picked up on my hesitation because he was about to ask Christopher to take his seat in the middle when I sat down beside him and gave his knee a squeeze to show that I was okay sitting here. Eddie and I's eyes met, and we started to share a look when Evan cleared his throat, and Eddie and I looked over to everyone else at the table. We missed a question or something, almost like on cue, we both said "What?" causing Alex and Christopher to laugh loudly. "I was asking what it is you do for a living?" Taylor asked. "Oh, I'm a nurse at the moment, but I'm a writer on the side. I'm writing a novel at the moment." "I didn't know that. It's impressive." Eddie stated. "I can't reveal all my secrets." As we made eye contact again, I felt a spark. The same spark I felt when we first met. "Taylor is a journalist, which has to deal with a ton of writing I bet, tell us about it, babe?" I could tell she didn't appreciate being put on the spot at that moment. "Well, it's fun but also exhausting. That's all there is to it. I mean not everyone can write fake stories for a living. So, I was wondering how did you meet?" She pointed between Evan and me. I looked over to Evan to see if he picked up on her condescending tone but he seemed to be in la-la-land. "After the death of my mother, my dad and I moved to Hershey for a new start. On my first day of school, i was running late and i noticed him in the parking lot doing some crazy tricks, one thing led to another and he got hurt. Everyone else ran to avoid getting in trouble but something told me to help him. After that when i got home i noticed that the cute boy i helped in the parking lot was my next door neighbor. My dad told me to watch out for him, and I didn't, so the rest is history." "Awww...that's a cute story," said Christopher. "Not if you heard it a dozen times." Alex so helpfully added. "Well, I remember someone always asking me to tell them this story before they went to bed." That made her go quiet.
Tumblr media
  After that, we had a peaceful dinner, with a few passive-aggressive remarks from Taylor. I offered to clean up the table, and Taylor seemed eager to help. Shortly after beginning to clean, Taylor began to speak. "Look, I don't know much about Buck and your relationship, but I can tell you right now it's over, and it will never happen again. Not as long as I'm in the picture. You may have Evan and Eddie fooled, but I can see right through you in a minute, okay?" I was quiet for a few, I looked over to where the others were sitting and noticed that they couldn't hear what was going on in the kitchen. That's when I decided to speak up. "Listen, sweetheart, I have no plans to take Evan away from you because, believe me when I say if I wanted to, I could. I didn't want to come here.  Since day one, I could tell just how big of a bitch you are. So let's set some ground rules. We aren't friends were connected through Evan, and around him, I will be sweet, kind, and caring, but if I hear such as one remark about our daughter or my relationship with Evan being brought up again, I might just whoop your ass when you least expect it. Got it?"
She was obviously shaken by my sudden change in demeanor. So, all she did was nod. "Alright,  I'll keep this little talk to myself for your sake, and I'll be on my way out." I headed towards the living room before turning back to her and saying one last remark. "Oh, and it was just lovely to meet you."
 I went up to Alex and the others. "Well, it's getting late, and the kiddos have school in the morning, so I'll be headed out. Come on Alex." Eddie stood up, and he seemed like he was heading out too.   "Hey Y/N, one thing, my boss is having a party next week, and I was wondering if you and Alex would want to come?" He said with his award-winning smile.
Tumblr media
 " You know just so everyone can meet Alex and the mother of my child." Wow, Buck, way to put me on the spot.
"I would love to, see you then." and with that, we left.
Rewatching the episode again.
I think it's interesting that:
in the blimp emergency, Eddie is the one that has to figure out how to do the whole balancing act, being the last to leave
that Lucy was injured (Arielle might be really injured, I'm not sure tbh) and taken out of the rotation temporarily
during Lucy's convo with the 118, we see Eddie on one side of Bobby asking Lucy a question, then Hen asking Lucy a question (taking Eddie's place) with Chim appearing on Bobby's other side, both Hen and Chim speaking at the same time then Chim on Hen's original side speaking to Bobby, then Buck appearing on the side Chim had originally been on and asking Lucy a question (with Eddie in the frame, further back) - framing
the moment Buck asks Bobby about Interim Captain, both Chim and Eddie take notice, then go over to lighten the mood
at Buck's apartment, during thee scene, Buck asks Eddie if it bothers him that neither one of them were asked to be Interim Captain (he never thinks of Chim or Hen)
the beer they are drinking has the word "genuine" on it with the label facing Eddie; we Buck drinking from his bottle with the label once again visible
the linking of the "couch" to the Interim Captain convo and then the linking of the couch to the girlfriends; like Buck says "So what does that have to do with being fire captain?" "It's weird"
Buck saying it only took him 3 tries to get the lasagna with 6 different types of cheese right; Maddie thinking the 3rd time would be the charm for her to finish the movie with Chim
Coffee, coffee, coffee - here we have Bobby, Chim, and Eddie drinking it while talking about Chim hooking up with Maddie the night before after they've been broken up - we've seen Bobby and Athena drinking coffee together, Chim and Maddie...yet I don't think we've seen Buddie drinking it together yet, always separate butttt coffee was emphasized for Eddie in 4x06 with Ana (as being a bad thing for that relationship) & in the same episode we saw Buck also burning his tongue on the last drips from the coffee pot
Fire Marshall Buck makes a reappearance (once again syncing up but contrasting slightly with 4x06 as well as 5x02)
is it a coincidence that Hen is named Interim Captain where Buck really wanted it and Bobby tells him he'll make a great Interim Captain one day as well, and in the same season we get Henren Begins?
Bobby explaining to Buck that he needs more life experience before being ready to be a good leader and that leading to Buck mentioning his lack of a couch, once again linking it all together
"I guess I've been having trouble picking one out. I think I'm afraid of making a mistake again." Bobby's response is to mention what he's learned in AA, about being able to be alone and at peace and ease; "And then you'll be ready"
Christopher trying to beat Eddie again at the game they played at Buck's -> trying again theme (just like with Madney in this episode as well as for Bathena trying to take their honeymoon as well as the golf ball emergency)
Right after the Diaz scene, we get Buck in his apartment deciding to put his single-seat recliner thing in the place of where the couch would have gone (and notice the lights on galore in this scene; also with the Diazes) and sits down in it, giving it a shot
So I think Buck has some work to do on himself before he'll be ready to give another "couch" another chance. Season 5 was all about confronting his trauma and doing work on himself for Eddie. Now in season 6, we see Buck on one of the last legs of his journey relationship-wise, needing to be content with himself before taking the next step.
And I can't imagine who that next step will be with...
Hiyaa!
just because i came across the fact (idk if it's true. Idc because it's beautiful) that if 2 people look into each others eyes, their heartbeats sync.
i just thought that would be a lovely thing to write about with buddie. Or maybe you already have one like this already.
Just trying to give you inspiration or something.
have a lovely day!🤗
Thank you so much for this idea. I might have went down the rabbit hole and looked into it and it seems legit. I'm pretty fascinated by it, and it really is perfect for them. I hope you enjoy 💜
"Hey, Eds?"
Buck looks around the house as he kicks off his shoes and hangs up his jacket. There's no sign of Eddie, but Buck can hear his voice coming from down the hall.
Buck doesn't follow the sound, though. Instead, he walks into the living room where two heart monitors have been set up. It's something Buck would expect to see in a hospital, not the middle of Eddie's living room.
"What the hell?"
"Yeah," Eddie says, startling Buck when he appears suddenly behind him. "That was my thought too."
"What is Hen going to do to us?" Buck hisses.
When Hen had first mentioned needing Buck and Eddie's help with a project for school, Buck hadn't hesitated to agree. Now, looking at the machines, he's starting to wonder what exactly he agreed to.
"She assures me it'll be painless," Eddie says.
"And you believe her?"
Eddie shrugs. "It's Hen. It's not like she's going to drain us of our blood and watch our vitals as we bleed out on my living room floor."
Buck tilts his head as he watches Eddie. "That's oddly specific, Eds." A teasing grin spreads across his face when Eddie looks away. "Have you been watching horror movies without me again?"
"Of course I have to watch them without you." Eddie crosses his arms across his chest and raises an eyebrow. "You hate horror movies. They freak you out."
"Yeah, and they freak you out too," Buck says. "Especially when you watch them alone."
Buck knows that for a fact. He's gotten plenty of texts from Eddie late at night after he decided it was a good idea to watch some horror movie after Christopher had gone to bed.
There was one time Buck had to assure Eddie no one was lurking outside his house, and when that didn't work he drove over and checked it out for him. Turns out what Eddie had been seeing outside his window was a tree branch. Which Buck only teased him about a little bit.
So yeah, Buck knows what Eddie gets like after watching a horror movie.
"Alright, you boys ready?" Hen asks.
Eddie eyes the wires in her hands warily. "What are those for?"
Buck leans over and whispers to Eddie, "Still sure she's not going to kill us?"
Hen rolls her eyes and gestures to the couch. "Of course I'm not going to kill you. This is to help monitor your heart rhythm."
"What are you doing to us that you need to monitor our hearts?" Buck asks.
"An experiment," Hen says. "I can't tell you what exactly that is until after or else it could skew the results."
Eddie nods and moves to sit on the couch, leaving Buck no choice but to join him.
"Alright, shirts off," Hen says.
Buck and Eddie share a look and Eddie shrugs, stripping his shirt off in one swift movement. Buck has to make himself look away from the newly exposed expanse of skin, and takes his own shirt off.
"Now what?" Buck asks Hen.
"Now I need to put these electrodes on your chest," Hen says.
"I can do Buck," Eddie offers.
Buck almost chokes on his own tongue and he sputters. "What? What do…? What?"
"The electrodes, Buck," Eddie says. "I know where to place them."
"Right," Buck says. Of course that's what he'd been talking about. But then... "If you know what the wires are for why did you have to ask?"
Eddie smirks. "Because you didn't know."
"Asshole," Buck mutters.
All Eddie does is laugh.
Buck isn't sure if he wants to slap him or kiss him. Maybe both. Or neither. He's just going to be cool. He sits as still as he can as Eddie moves closer, one of the electrodes in his hands. He can do this. He can totally sit here and act like a normal person as his best friend, who he's secretly in love with, touches him. No big deal.
He jumps at the first touch of the sticky backing of the electrode in his skin. "Shit. That's cold."
Eddie sniggers. "Sorry. Did I forget to mention that?"
"Thought you would have known, Buckaroo," Hen says, easily placing the electrodes on Eddie's chest. He seems completely unphased. "You've been in the hospital enough times."
"I was never conscious when they put them on," Buck says. "Or you know, I had other things to worry about."
"Fair enough," Hen says.
Eddie sighs and shakes his head. "This will go faster if you sit still."
"Right," Buck mumbles. "Sorry."
He does his best to remain still as Eddie places the remaining electrodes on his chest. After the first two, it's a little easier since he knows what to expect. Once they’re all on, Eddie clips the wires onto each electrode, and Buck watches as his heart rhythm appears on one of the machines.
"Alright, so what next?" Buck asks.
"Now I just need you two to sit facing each other for three minutes and keep eye contact," Hen tells them. "I'll monitor the time and tell you when to start."
"That's all?" Buck questions.
Hen nods. "Yep."
Buck shrugs. "Okay. Sounds simple enough." He turns to face Eddie better and smiles as he holds out his hand. "You ready?"
Eddie rolls his eyes but returns the smile as he takes Buck's hand. It's not part of the experiment, but Eddie doesn't question it. "Ready."
"Excellent." Hen looks down at her phone and then nods her head. "Alright. Starting on three, two, one."
Buck didn't need the countdown. His eyes were already fixed on Eddie's. He's looked into them loads of times, often found his gaze lingering there. But never like this. Not with Eddie gazing back so intently, his palm warm against his. It's strangely intimate, even with the beeping of the machines, and Hen in the room watching them. All that falls away. All Buck can focus on is Eddie.
On the flecks of gold swimming among the brown, that until now Buck's never been able to appreciate. Buck could get lost in them. He wants to.
He leans in, his eyes not leaving Eddie's, needing to be closer. Eddie mirrors his movements. There’s a look in his eyes that never fails to take Buck’s breath away, even he can’t quite pinpoint what it is. He has a feeling if he looks long enough he’ll find all the answers he needs.
"Eds…"
Beep beep beep
Buck jolts back at the sound of the timer going off, but his eyes don't leave Eddie's, even now. Eddie doesn't seem ready to look away either.
"Well?" Buck asks. "What'd you find out?"
"That even science knows how in love you two idiots are," Hen says.
Buck does look away then. His hand drops from Eddie's as he turns to face Hen. "What?"
"Research shows that people who are in love and gaze into each other's eyes for three minutes naturally experience synchronized heartbeats," Hen says. "And you two," she points between Buck and Eddie. "Synced up perfectly. Eddie's heart rate was in the 80's when we started and yours was 78. The moment you two locked eyes both of your hearts started to slow and then stayed at 68. Your respirations matched up too."
Buck's sure his heart isn't slow now. In fact, it has to have shot up at Hen's words. He looks at the monitor to see he's right. He's pushing 80. But Eddie… Eddie's has remained steady.
He glances over at Eddie, to see him looking fondly at him before he starts to peel off the electrodes. "Can you get these off him, Hen?"
"You got it," Hen says. She starts removing the electrodes from Buck's skin, but Buck barely pays attention, too focused on Eddie.
"You don't seem surprised by this," Buck says. "Why aren't you surprised?"
Eddie sighs. "Because I'm not. I've heard of this before. And I…"
"What?"
"I think this is something you two need to talk about alone," Hen mutters. She tosses the last electrode aside and then stands up. "I'll get the equipment later. You two… talk."
Eddie starts to get to his feet, but Buck grabs his arm, stopping him. "Wait, Eddie."
"I'm just going to get a washcloth, Buck," Eddie says, offering him a reassuring smile. "Trust me, you don't want this to dry on your skin."
Buck winces. "Good point."
His skin already feels gross and sticky. Something he doesn't want to feel when he has this talk with Eddie.
Eddie returns a moment later with two washcloths. He hands one to Buck as he takes his previously vacated seat next to him. Buck smiles when he presses the washcloth against his skin and feels how warm it is. Of course, Eddie would be thinking about comfort.
When he's done, he puts the washcloth aside and turns back to Eddie.
"Why weren't you surprised?" Buck asks softly. Eddie looks up at him, before glancing away. Something Buck is used to when it comes to Eddie talking about his feelings. Normally, Buck would let it be. But not today. Not with this. Buck gently tilts his chin up with his fingers and ducks his head to meet Eddie's gaze. "Eddie."
"Because I know how I feel about you," Eddie says. "That's why my heart sped up when Hen told us what we'd be doing."
"But you were calm when it was over," Buck says.
Eddie nods. "Yeah. And you weren't."
"I was afraid I gave myself away," Buck admits. "I didn't want to risk losing you."
Eddie smiles and leans down, pressing a soft kiss on Buck's palm. "Buck, you know the experiment only works if it goes both ways."
"Oh," Buck says. Then, "Oh."
Eddie chuckles and moves down, kissing Buck's wrist over his pulse. "Yeah."
"You love me," Buck whispers. It’s a question. Buck is sure of that. As sure as he’s ever been of anything. Eddie loves him. Buck suddenly understands just what it was he saw in Eddie’s eyes before. Not just today, but so many times over the years, and he never let himself hope. Until now. It’s love.
Eddie sits up straighter until their faces are level. He brings his hand up to Buck's face, his fingers caressing his skin with a softness that matches the look in his eyes. There's no looking away now. "I do," Eddie says. "I love you, Evan."
Buck kisses him, unable to hold back in longer. Eddie laughs happily and kisses him back with matching enthusiasm. "I love you too," Buck murmurs against his lips. And it's perfect. Buck doesn’t need a heart monitor to tell him that. Together in this moment, like with everything else, they're completely in sync.
Here's a romantically fluffy snippet from Chapter 15 from one of Buck's and Eddie's conversations.
___________
Eddie and Buck pull back at the same time and call each other’s names.
Eddie says, “Buck?” and Buck says, “Eddie?”
Eddie thinks, ‘This is it! It’s the moment I ask Buck to spend his life with me.’ And Buck thinks, ‘I’m getting ready to ask him to spend forever with me.’
They start talking at the same time again.
Buck asks, “Eddie, will you marry me?” and Eddie asks, “Buck, will you marry me?”
They lean their foreheads together again and chuckle because they’ve always been in sync, just like they are right now.
Breathlessly Eddie says, “We both just proposed.”
“We did!”  Buck admits, then says, “We both want the same thing… to be together forever”.
What will be Buck's and Eddie's responses to their proposals?👀
They’re in a romantic relationship, they’re both preparing to ask the other one to spend forever with them and by the end of the seventh week into their relationship, together they will plan their most important and greatest adventure for their future.
