Just Friends - Part 1
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Female Reader Summary: This is a 2-parter. You've been just friends with Bucky since you first joined the Avengers, but is there more? You both deny it. What happens with Bucky gets a girlfriend, who may not like your relationship? Warnings: Angst, jealousy, asshole girlfriends, cursing
A/N: I hope I made this even better than it was before. It’s a 2-parter. Part 2 will hopefully be out tomorrow. None of my stories are edited or beta’d. If you want to be a part of my taglist, please request. My old taglist no longer is active.
When you first joined the Avengers, you instantaneously felt comfortable with everyone, but there was one person that you clicked with more than the others. Bucky Barnes. He was shy for maybe a day before realizing how much you both have in common. He became your person and you became his, platonically of course. Sometimes you wonder if there is more, but you don't dwell on it much. You're happy being exactly what you are to each other. Like right now, you're sitting on the couch watching TV, your feet on Bucky’s lap, with him massaging your calves. You both sit and watch Ace Ventura, because you both love comedy and Jim Carey is king. When the movie was finally over, you look over at Bucky and give him a smile.
“So what do you want to do now?” you ask, nudging your foot into his hard abdomen.
He squeezes your foot and tickles the bottom of it, making you giggle and pull your foot toward you. He chuckles and grabs you foot back to put in on his lap, continuing his massage.
“We could take a nap,” he said with raised eyebrows.
You smile and nod at him excitedly. “Your room or mine?” you ask.
He stands up, letting your feet drop, he turns and reaches for your hands. He pulls you off the couch and leads you toward his room, stilling holding onto your one hand.
You close the door behind you and climb into the bed with Bucky, and snuggle into his open arms. You feel a kiss on the top of your head and nuzzle your nose into his chest. It didn’t take you long to fall asleep with the sound of his steady heartbeat and the warmth of his arms. This is probably your favorite place.
When you wake up, a few hours later, you realize you're alone in his room. You decide to look for him and head back toward the common room and hear Sam, Steve and Bucky talking.
“It’s not a big deal guys. Y/N is my best friend… besides you,” you guess Bucky points at Steve when he says this last part.
“I don’t know man, you guys act like you’re dating,” Sam says.
“Are you sure you don’t have feelings for her?” you hear Steve ask.
Your heart starts pounding in your chest. Now you've been asked the same question by Nat and Wanda, and you always stated you were both just friends, but again you wonder if it's really true. And while you assume you know his answer, you kinda hope he says that he does have feelings, then you won't feel stupid for your "feelings".
“We're just friends,” he says with confidence.
You can’t help the slight disappointment, but shake it off because of course your just friends. You were perfectly okay with just being friends with Bucky, and you didn’t care that the rest of the team didn’t get it.
“Guys, trust me. I will NEVER see Y/N like that. She's far from my type. Plus, I already started talking to a girl, who's so amazing,” Bucky says.
You can’t help but gasp at that statement, and have tears coming down your cheeks. While you understand he may only like you as a friend, to hear that you'll never be his type hurts you more than you care to admit. Then to hear that he has been talking to someone else send another stab into your heart. Maybe you do have stronger feelings for Bucky than you realized, and maybe you need to deal with those feelings and quickly since they will never be reciprocated.
The next day you were in the the gym lifting weights, when Bucky came strolling in. He was on the phone, and you couldn’t help but notice the wide smile he had on. When he hung up the phone, he made a B-line to you. You take a deep breath and get into the correct head space.
“Hello my Bella. Haven’t seen you since our nap yesterday. Everything okay?” He asks. You continue with your exercise and give him a small smile. “Yup.” He looks at you, waiting for more of an answer. When you don’t elaborate, he can’t help but feel nervous, but quickly shakes it away.
“Hey, you busy later? I kinda have someone I want you to meet.” He asks. You look into his eyes, prepared to blow him off, but you see the hope in them. “Um… yea sure.” you say quietly. He smiles and walks toward the punching bag to begin his own workout.
After you both finish your workouts, and shower, he knocks on your door. “Hey Belle, you ready?” he asks when you open the door. “Uh, yeah. Let’s go.” You walk out of the room, and Bucky immediately wraps his flesh arm around your shoulders, as he leads you to the elevator.
Once you left the compound, you both walk to the pizza place about a 20 minute walk since the compound property is so big. Bucky has his arm around you the entire time, and eventually you wrap yours around his waist and relax. So what you're going to meet a girl he is talking to. Talking to someone is nothing, and maybe it won't even work out.  You both enter the pizza place, and Bucky leads you toward a red head sitting in the booth in the back. Bucky had immediately released you when you entered, but grabbed your hand as he lead you walked to the booth.
The red head smiles at Bucky, but her smile slips slightly as her eyes asses you and your joined hands. You can’t help the blush of anxiety in your cheeks. Bucky releases your hand, when the red head gets out of the booth and tightly embraces her.
“Hey, Dot. You been waiting long?” he asks.
She shakes her head ‘no’ into his chest as her hands caress the hairs on the back of his neck. When they pull apart, she holds his head and pulls him into a kiss. Your breath hitches and you try to look somewhere else, wanting nothing more than to cry and possibly vomit. Bucky pulls away from Dot and turns to look at you with an embarrassed smile. You see the blush in his cheeks, but you try to act nonchalant, and you hope you succeed. Bucky takes your hand and pulls you next to him.
“Dot, this is Y/N. She's my best friend. Y/N, this is Dot. My girlfriend,” he says looking between the two of you with a proud smile.
Your eyes snap up to Bucky’s in surprise. Girlfriend?! You thought he was just talking but they are actually dating? What. The. Fuck! You put your spy talents to use and pretend to be somewhat happy.
“Dot, it's nice to meet you,” you say as you extend your hand to shake hers.
Dot looks at you with a fake smile. “I’m sure,” she says as she grabs your hand.
You are taken aback by this, but squeeze her hand as hard as you can. You see her wince, and just grin at her. Bucky looks happy and motions for the three of you to sit in the booth. He sits next to Dot, and they hold hands and Bucky caressing hers with his thumb. Throughout the whole lunch Dot kept leaning into Bucky and constantly touched him. You get more aggravated each time she touches him, knowing she was staking her claim on him in front of you. She obviously found you and your relationship with Bucky threatening. She also talks to him in a squeaky babylike voice, that runs right through you. You try your best to act the part of the best friend, but your heart is completely broken. No wonder he'll never look at you like that. This is obviously the type of girl he is interested in, and you will never be this type of girl. Thank god.
When you're done, you walk outside of the restaurant, turn and look at Dot.
“It was nice to meet you,” you say with a fake but polite smile.
She gives you a knowing smirk, “You too, uh… I’m sorry what was your name again?” she says.
Your polite smile falls and scowl forms. “Y/N,” you say flatly.
“Right, Y/N.”
You look at Bucky, “You ready to go?” you say.
Bucky looks weird and is avoiding you eyes, “Um, actually I’m going to go to Dot’s for the night,” he says quietly.
You're fucking pissed because you walked here, which means you now have to walk back, alone. It’s now basically dark, and you are in nowhere upstate New York. You stare at Bucky in disbelief and then at Dot, who has a smug grin on her face as she wraps her arms around Bucky, pulling him in the direction of her car.
“Oh, great. Well… uh.. have fun,” you say quickly but making sure he knew you were pissed.
You turn around and start walking back toward the compound feeling utterly defeated and pissed. You hear Bucky call your name asking you to wait a moment, but you just keep walking, tears running down your face. You feel your phone vibrating, knowing he was calling you, but again you ignore it. You walk up to the border of the compound property and stop and take a breath. You wanted to calm down before you went in. You look at your phone and see Bucky texted you.
I’m so sorry, Bells. I know should've told you.
Don't hate me.
Please let me know when you get back.
You decide to ignore him, he didn’t deserve to know you were back. You take another deep breath and walk up the walkway toward the building. You take the elevator to your floor and go straight to your room. You decide to shower and get ready for bed.
You lay there, wondering what will happen tomorrow when Bucky comes back. Suddenly your phone vibrates again. Its Bucky:
We really need to talk, tomorrow.
You wake up the next day and look at your phone. It was already 11:30. You quickly get up and change before heading down to the gym. You're half way through your run on the treadmill when Bucky walks in not looking like his normal happy self around you. He looks over at you, coldly and walks over. He then starts to look uncomfortable when he stops in front of you, and won’t meet your eyes.
“Hey,” you say.
He just nods. “Y/N, can you stop for a second, I need to talk to you,” he says, still avoiding your eyes.
You bring the treadmill to a stop and step down feeling confused by his demeanor.
“What’s going on?” you ask cautiously.
Bucky now looks at you, but his stare is hard and cold. You feel the air leave your lungs as you feel the anger starting to radiate off of him.
“Our friendship is over, Y/N,” he says, like it is nothing.
You feel the tears start to build. “What? Why? Buck… is this because I wouldn’t answer you last night? I.. I was upset because you didn’t give me the heads up about anything. I mean you didn't warn me I would be meeting your girlfriend, and then when introduce me to Dot, she made it pretty damn obvious she didn’t like me. Then to top it all off you made me walk home alone. I had a right to be pissed, but now you're ending the friendship?”
Bucky glares at you. “You made Dot feel very uncomfortable yesterday. She told me that you squeezed her hand too tight and would constantly make her feel like you were looking down on her. You were supposed to be my friend, and support me in my first relationship. Dot doesn’t like how close I am with you, and I want this relationship with her to work, because I think she could be the one for me. So I’m sorry, we need to end our friendship and keep our distance from each other.”
Tears are falling from your eyes, but you can’t help but get angry. “Are you fucking kidding me, James? I made her uncomfortable? She was assessing me from the moment we walked in the damn restaurant! I mean did you hear what she said when you introduced us? Or how about when I was leaving, she didn't even remember my name. But of course you don't give a shit about that, huh? So obviously our friendship has meant absolutely nothing to you this whole time! So fine, consider our friendship over, and stay the hell away from me. Goodbye Bucky.”
You push him out of the way and run out of the gym. Bucky’s heart is in his throat. He honestly doesn’t know what to do because when he spoke to Dot last night, she made it seem like you made her uncomfortable. He does want to try with Dot, because he knows he could never be with... you. Now he's lost you for good, which he thought would help him get over his feelings for you, but seeing your face broken by his words killed him in a way he never felt before.
He feels like he just made the worst mistake in his whole life.

Part 2
Oh Bucky you done fucked up man. Dot can go all the way to hell, and Bucky you might be joining her dude. Feedback is appreciated.

⋆*・゚:⋆*・゚☾ ⋆*・゚:⋆*・゚✧ ⋆*・゚:⋆*・゚*
“I’m going to hang out with Sam and Steve; I’ll be back later,” Bucky says, slightly annoyed as he walks out the door; you sigh heavily. It’s the 4th time Bucky has gone out with friends this week. There’s nothing wrong with that, but lately, you’ve been feeling like you’re always the one making all the plans, which you don’t mind doing, but it’s a two-way street; both sides need to be putting in the effort; you’ve already talked with Bucky about this, but it felt like it went nowhere, you voiced what you wanted, and Bucky said “okay,” and that was that. Still, you decided to put a little faith in Bucky and hope he’d take your words to heart.
“It’s okay, we just talked about it; give him time,” you said to yourself, absentmindedly flipping through the TV channels; nothing caught your attention; your mind was preoccupied with the situation, turning off the TV, deciding it was a lost cause.
It's been two weeks since you talked with Bucky about including you more, and it has sadly gone nowhere; you feel as if you're talking to a brick wall, you feel under-appreciated, but worse of all you feel alone, completely abandoned, like you've lost the person you cared about the most, once again Bucky is out with Sam and Steve again, you had hoped by now that Bucky would have made a change. Still, Bucky remains the same; you're staying up, crying quietly, waiting for Bucky to come home; you don't know what you're going to do, but you're not just going to sit back and continue to be treated this way, all these emotions have been building up for months, you've tried to pack it all away hoping the problems would solve themselves, assuming that everything would go back to normal.
You're so deep in thought you don't even hear the front door open, Bucky's voice breaking you from your trance.
"I'm home, Y/N," he calls out to you; you sigh, anticipating the upcoming battle.
"I'm in here," you shout back, wiping your tears away, shifting uncomfortably, nerves eating away at you.
Bucky walks in with an exhale, shedding articles of clothing, unaware of your emotional state.
"How has your night been?" He asks sweetly, back facing you. You let out a weep, and Bucky turns around swiftly, concern written across his features; he crawls across the bed towards you, gently rubbing your arm comfortably; you move away from his touch, and Bucky looks at you, confused.
"Buck, we need to talk,” you say, exhausted; you move to sit directly across from him. Bucky observes you.
“You still-no, it feels like you haven’t put in any effort to include me,” you play with your fingers, avoiding Bucky’s eyes; he sighs and stands up, rolling his eyes, annoyance radiating off him.
“Not this again? Why can’t I go out with my friends? Why do I have to bring you every time?” He grits his teeth, angrily kicking his shoes off.
“Bucky, I’m not asking you to invite me every time, just every once in a while; your friends are my friends, too,” you defend; you pick yourself up and stand in front of Bucky.
“You wanna go out? Fine, let’s go out right now,” he says sharply, reaching for his coat.
“That’s not what I mean, Bucky,” you say bitterly, taking his coat out of his hands.
“I don’t know what you want from me?!” He thunders, throwing his hands in the air. “First, you want me to take you out, and then when I offer to, you don’t want to?!” He booms, running his hands through his hair frustratedly.
“Bucky, I don’t want to ask you to invite me; I want you to come up with it on your own!” You shout back, the argument and tensions escalating.
“Do you even hear yourself?” He yells, pacing back and forth, “If you want to come with me, just do it!”
“I want you to want me there, Buck; I don’t want to invite myself, then it feels like no one actually wants me there,” you cry, voice cracking slightly; you hope Bucky doesn’t pick up on it.
“Want me to want you there? Now you’re telling me what I want?” He says in disbelief, laughing at the absurdity.
“No, I just want my presence to be appreciated; I feel like I’m the only one making plans, like I’m the only one trying,” you cry out, tears running down your cheeks, all the pent-up emotion pouring out of you.
“Y/N, every time I invite you somewhere, and someone does one thing to upset you, you completely shut down! You don’t say anything; you just sit there and make everyone uncomfortable! Why would I want to keep inviting someone who clearly doesn’t want to be there?” Bucky roars. “Have you ever considered that maybe I don’t want you there, and that’s why I don’t ask you to come?” He barks.
“You don’t want me there?” You say quietly; time freezes; has he never wanted you there? How long has he felt this way? You stare at Bucky, waiting for an answer, but he says nothing; he stares back at you.
“Y/N, every day something has upset you so much that you just shut everyone out; you don’t talk to me or anyone; you sit in your own misery all alone. How am I supposed to be there for you when you don’t let me in, baby?” He says calmly, slowly stepping closer to you, cautiously pulling you into a hug; you break at the embrace, falling to your knees, sobs ripping from your throat; to keep the peace, you bottle everything up and hope everything will fix itself, without realizing you’ve barricaded yourself in your own tower of isolation and heartache, completely locking out everyone who’s ever cared for you.
“I’m so sorry, Buck,” you whimper out, gripping Bucky’s arms as if your life depended on it. Bucky softly shushes you, gently rocking you back and forth, caressing your head as you let out all the suppressed emotion.
“It’s okay, baby, I gotcha,” he says gently.

My Roommates Boyfriend - Fin
Pairings: Bucky x Female Reader AU: Modern
Chapter Summary: And they all lived.... Chapter Warnings: Fluff and maybe cursing cause ya know... lol, also several flashbacks

Series Masterlist
--
2 years later
You’re pacing around the room trying to get your emotions in check. Today was the day your life will change forever. Nat walked in, wearing her navy blue tea length dress.
“Y/N, you've gotta calm down and get dressed already!” she scolded.
You take a deep breath and look at the floor length mirror. Your hair and makeup were done to perfection and you were standing in your white silk robe.
“What if we're not meant to be? What if this is all a huge mistake?” you say, panic evident in your voice.
It was the day after you and Bucky finally talked it out. He planned on taking you out on a proper date this time. He told you he would pick you up at 7, and at exactly 7, you heard the buzzer.
You were running around like a chicken with your head cut off because you'd gotten out of work late, which never happens. You buzz him in and quickly run into your room to slip your dress on.
You heard the knock on the door and started to panic because your hair was a disaster and you didn’t have time to reapply your makeup. You run to the door, looking slightly disheveled. You open it to see Bucky looking as handsome as ever.
Bucky furrowed his brows seeing the panic on your face.
“You okay, baby?” he asks.
You shake your head as tears start to form. “I-I got out of work late, and so I haven’t had time to fix my hair or my makeup and you planned this whole night and now I’m ruining it!” you said, choking on a sob.
Bucky quickly embraced you and kissed the top of your head. “Y/N, I don’t care where our first date is. I just want to be with you. If we miss our dinner reservation, we can go to the diner or get pizza. It's ok. Please don't cry. And by the way... you already look amazing.”
You look at him for a moment before you pull him close and kiss him deeply. Bucky was taken aback at first, but then wrapped his arms around you. When you pulled back you looked at him with determination.
“Give me 10 minutes, and I’ll be ready,” you said softly before going into your room.
You knew at that point that Bucky was the one for you. Always and forever.
Nat took both your hands and made you look at her. “Do you love him?” she asks. You nod. “Do you want to be with him for the rest of your life?” she asks, and again you nod. “Then shut up with the stupid questions and get your ass dressed! You need to be walking down that aisle to your man in 10 minutes!” Nat said with authority. She pushed you toward your dress and smacked your ass.
Once you were in your white strapless floor length gown, that showed all your curves perfectly, you felt slightly more confident. Your mom and dad walked in and gushed over how beautiful you looked. Your mom gave you a hug and left the room with Natasha to get ready to start the ceremony. Your dad offered his arm and led you out of the room.
Bucky was waiting at the end of the aisle with Sam and his other best friend Steve. When you entered the room with your dad, he couldn’t help but watch you walk toward him in awe. He can’t believe you were finally going to be his forever.
You'd been dating for a year, and it honestly was the best year of your life. Bucky had moved into your apartment, especially after you gave him a key again, after a month of dating. You both were the happiest you had ever been.
You were planning your next visit out to Nat in Seattle in the next month or so. You both cuddled together on the couch looking at the computer to purchase plane tickets. Bucky has his arm wrapped around you, and every few minutes kisses you temple, cheek and grabbing your chin he kissed your lips.
What started out as innocent, turned into a full blown make out session and then passionate love making. Your plane tickets forgotten. As you both lay on the couch, calming down from your exertion, Bucky turns your face to him.
“Marry me?” he asks softly, as he brushes the hair stuck to your face from sweat.
You smile and tears come your your eyes. “Oh my god! Bucky, yes of course I'll marry you!” you shout as you wrap your arms around his neck.
Bucky smiles and kisses you softly. “I was going to wait until Seattle, but I just couldn’t wait anymore. I love you, Y/N. You're everything to me. We were truly meant to be from the moment we saw each other, and I want nothing more than to spend the rest of my life with you.”
You can’t help crying tears of happiness. “I love you too, Bucky, so fucking much. I can’t wait to spend the rest of our lives together!” You say as you bring him in for another kiss.
Bucky and you were more then lovers, you were best friends. You told each other everything and anything. You barely fought anymore, though there was the occasional disagreement. You both swore to never go to bed angry, and that also pushed you to settle your quarrels quickly. Plus you couldn’t stand to be away from each other.
Nat was your cheerleader all the way through your relationship, which is why she is proudly standing by you as your maid of honor. She met her current boyfriend Bruce at work, and the two have been together for a year. She's never been so happy.
You and Bucky make frequent trips to Seattle to see Nat, and she visits New York with Bruce often. You’re so glad that the distance didn’t change your friendship. You know none of this would have been possible without her.
“Oh my god!!” Nat screamed as she saw your ring! She ran up and gave you the biggest hug, squeezing you so tight. “I can’t believe you guys are getting married!” She said as she hugged Bucky.
“Nat, none of this would have happened if you hadn’t pushed us to stop being stupid. So… will you be my maid of honor?” you ask. Nat jumped up and down screaming YES!
You look at Bucky as you get closer to him, and you can’t help your wide cheesy smile. God you loved this man and you can’t imagine what life would be like without him. You don’t even remember what life was like without him. As you finally make it to Bucky, your father shook his hand and gave you away.
After your vows were said, you finally heard the words you were waiting for, “You may kiss the bride”. Bucky pulled you to him and crashed his lips into yours. To say you were the happiest people in the world would be an understatement.
After a fun reception, you said goodbye to your family and friends and went up to the honeymoon suite of the hotel. You both had to be up early to catch your flight to Bora Bora, but you spent the entire night entwined in each other. Bucky showed you how much he loved you over and over.
Six months later you get another surprise. You’re pregnant! Bucky was beyond happy, and you both decided that it was time to start looking for a house and leave the city. You found the perfect home in the suburbs that was still close enough to the city for work and your friends.
“Bucky? Are you home?” you shout from the bathroom in your apartment.
“Yeah baby, I'm in the kitchen. You okay?” Bucky called as he walks toward the bathroom.
You take a deep breath and hand him the stick. He looks confused at first, but then, slowly, a huge smile appears on his face. “You’re pregnant?” he asks in disbelief. You nod.
Bucky shouts with joy as he sweeps you off your feet and spins you around. You both are laughing as he stops and just holds you.
“I can’t believe I’m going to be a daddy.” He says.
You smile. “I know! And I’m going to be a mommy!”
Bucky kisses you softly. “Well, I think we need to move out of the city. I want my kids to have a big backyard with a pool and swing set.” Bucky says as he walks over to grab his laptop.
Shortly after the move you gave birth to your son, Matthew James Barnes. He was the spitting image of his father, and you hoped he would turn out just like him. After an easy birth, you and Bucky sit on your bed holding your son. Bucky continues to kiss you head and thanking you for his son.
You look up at Bucky with tears in your eyes. You think back to that terrible first year of knowing each other, and then the terrible drive to Seattle. You can’t help but laugh to yourself that all of that craziness led you to the best thing in your life. Your loving husband and son. You wouldn’t want it any other way.

My Roommate's Boyfriend - Chapter 9
Pairing: Bucky x Female Reader AU: Modern
Chapter Summary: Bucky goes to the reader. Chapter Warning: Cursing, crying, angst
Series Masterlist
--
Bucky takes a deep breath as he stands in front of the brick apartment building. He didn’t know how this was going to go. He hoped you would listen to him, now that you know the truth. However, he knows that he has more than one thing to apologize for.
He looks up at the window, where he knows your apartment is. An apartment he spent many hours in with Nat. Every time you were there, he couldn’t help but watch you. The way you moved, talked, laughed, and especially the scowl on your face when he would make a nasty comment toward you.
He winces at the memories of all the terrible things he said. He regrets everything from the last year, including going for Nat when she wasn’t what he wanted. He enjoyed his time with her, but in the end, it was always you.
He takes another deep breath before walking up to the door and pressing the buzzer for your apartment. He waits a moment before he hears the door unlock. He walks in and up to the second floor. He slowly walks up to your door trying to hold everything together.
He knocks and waits. As he hears your footsteps approach the door, his heart races in anticipation. He hears you unlocking the door and takes a deep breath in as you open the door.
To say you were stunned when you saw Bucky standing outside your door would be an understatement. You weren't sure if he would ever turn up here again.
“Bucky?” you whisper, trying to calm your racing heart and mind.
Bucky swallows the lump in his throat, and you see his Adam’s Apple move up and down.
“C-can I come in… please?” He asks quietly, his eyes begging.
You stand to the side, opening the door wider to allow him access into your home. He walks in and takes a look around the place. “Looks the same,” he says as he walks to the couch, maybe starting with small talk could cut the tension slightly. It didn't.
You nod silently as you sit on the far end of the couch, keeping your distance. You stare at him while he stares at his hands. You feel like you can hear the gears in his mind working. The silence is suffocating you, so you break it.
“Did you want a drink or something?” you ask.
He shakes his head, before finally looking into your eyes. Your breath hitches as you look back. His eyes have never seemed as blue as they are right now. Bucky clears his throat.
“I, uh, wanted to come and talk to you about what you saw in that text message from Sam. You see-“
“I already know what it was about. I spoke with Sam the other day.” You say cutting him off. He gives you a small smile.
“Yea, I, uh, I heard, but I wanted to know why you didn’t ask me about it?  Do you really think so little of me that you assumed I would do that to you? I know I have given you a reason to feel that way,” He says, his eyes piercing you.
You can’t help but scoff and look away shaking your head. You feel the tears but force them to not fall. “Yea, Buck, you've given me plenty of reasons to think that way. And even though it wasn’t true, it doesn’t change the fact that this can never work, because you were the biggest asshole to me for a whole year for something you assumed. No! I’m not finished,” you say to stop Bucky from interrupting.
“But still with this trip, and the kiss, and especially that night. That night was…” you shake your head as tears slowly fall, then quickly wipe them away and clear your throat. “But, when I was upset at you, you were all over Nat the very next day!”
Bucky’s heart breaks as he sees your tears return. “I was stupid, ok? I was frustrated at not being able to talk to you. Nat and I were talking and she made me feel better. It was a natural reaction for me to hug her and kiss her head. It's what I've done for the past year. It meant nothing, but I'm sorry it hurt you. I promise you, Nat and I are over. My feelings for her are strictly platonic, and have been for awhile, honestly.”
You look up at him in shock. “What? How is that possible? You were here all the time! I heard you two fucking like rabbits nearly every night!” you say, getting frustrated.
Bucky sighs, “It didn't mean anything. It was just sex, to both of us."
"You were so upset that she was leaving. None of this makes sense Bucky. Clearly you have to understand where I'm coming from," you say.
Bucky nods, "I do. I mean I was upset she was moving, but it's because I care about her. She's one of my best friends. In the end though, we both knew that our relationship was never going to last regardless if she moved or stayed. My whole heart wasn't in it, and neither was hers. She's known how I feel about you, and was the one who made me realize it. She told me to go for it because she knew how we both felt.”
You stand up and start pacing. “I don’t know what you are expecting from me. I-I can’t… I…” you stutter unable to gather your thoughts together. When you turn to pace the other way you crash into Bucky’s chest. Bucky holds your arms and looks at you.
“Do you regret what happened between us? Do regret that night? Because if you do, I’ll leave now and you'll never see me again,” he says quietly.
You stare into his eyes as flashbacks of that night come to you. You remember all the feelings you had during that night. He made you feel beautiful and cherished. It was the best night of your life. Bucky waits for your answer, trying to calm his pounding heart.
You take a deep breath, “I…” you look down. Bucky’s heart breaks, as he takes a step back, releasing you. “I-I get it. I understand,” he says softly trying not to show his emotions. He walks around you and heads toward your front door.
“I'll never regret it,” you say softly, keeping your back toward him. Bucky quickly turns around, “Really?” he asks, finally feeling some hope.
You start to sob into your hands, going down to your knees. Bucky races forward and kneels in front of you, moving your hands from your face.
“Oh my beautiful girl,” he whispers as he picks you up and sits on the couch with you straddling his lap. You cry into the crook of his neck has he rubs your back, whispering sweet words into your ear and kissing your head.
You don’t know how long you sit on his lap, but when you finally calm down you finally look up at him. He wipes your tears with his thumbs with a soft smile. You take a deep shaky breath.
“I… that night, was the best night of my life. It was what I always wanted. I don’t know why, but I have had feelings for you since I saw you in the bar. Even when you insulted me, I stupidly continued to have feelings,” you say.
Tears start developing in in your eyes again and your voice breaks slightly, “I never thought you would ever look at me like anything more then that annoying girl that was your girlfriends roommate.”
Bucky kisses your forehead. “I'll spend the rest of my life trying to make up for the way I treated you for the last year. There was no excuse for it, especially since I now know the truth behind what you said. But, even through the insults and dirty looks I gave you, I wanted to be near you all the time. I've been crazy for you for so long. So fucking long.”
He tucks some of your hair behind your ear. “I saw you at the bar that night and I swear I fell so hard. I firmly believe in love at first site because of you. I was angry and hurt when I heard what you said and tried to make myself feel better by being an asshole. But my feelings never went away. Nat… she figured it out a few months ago.”
You looked at Bucky in shock, as he nodded at his words. “Yeah, she told me she could tell my feelings for you were there, but I kept denying it. Didn’t want to believe it. But the more time I spent with you, the more I realized she was right. I… I was slightly relieved when she told me we should break up because she was moving to Seattle.”
You give him a small smile and look down at your hands. “That’s why she insisted we drive together?” you ask.
He nods, “She told me to stop being stupid, that you liked me too.”
You rolled your eyes at that statement. “Yeah, she kept bugging me about you, which I always found weird.”
You both lightly chuckle. Bucky brings his palm to your cheek and lightly rubs your cheekbone with his thumb. You lean into his touch.
“Nat and I were a lie for most of our relationship. We both knew it, but kept up the lie. It was always you, and Nat wanted to make sure that you and I both got our happy ending. But I ruined it, as usual,” he says dropping his hand.
You grab both his hands, “No, it’s my fault. I should've asked you about the text. I just automatically assumed you were playing a trick on me. I should've given you the benefit of the doubt,” you say.
“I don’t blame you, Y/N. I’ve never given you a reason to trust me. But I’m hopin' that'll change now,” he says with a smile. You smile back at him and caress his face.
Bucky looks at your lips, licking his. You lightly pull his face toward you until your lips meet in a soft kiss. When you pull away you whisper, “I'd love for that to change, but we need to take things slow.”
“Baby, I'll go as slow as you need, as long as I finally get to call you mine,” he says softly.
Before you can answer, he pulls you back into another kiss. This one is more passionate. You allow his tongue access into your mouth and revel in his taste. You card you fingers through his hair and pull him as close as you can.
Finally you pull apart and lean your foreheads together, out of breath. “Yes, I'm yours. I don’t want to be anyone else’s. It’s you Bucky. It’s always been you!” you say. Bucky gives you the biggest smile and hugs you tightly.
You both spend the rest of the day in each other’s arms getting to know each other. You felt like a huge weight had been lifted off your shoulders.
Bucky felt like he was on cloud nine. He finally got a chance at redemption with you, and he was not going to ruin this again. You were too important.

My Roommate's Boyfriend - Chapter 7
Pairing: Bucky x Female Reader AU: Modern
Chapter Summary: Things continue to get messy. Chapter Warnings: Angst, Cursing, Short chapter
Series Masterlist
--
We need to talk.
Bucky sighs looking at his phone, suddenly nervous. Maybe Nat was mad about him sleeping with you. Even they broke up, and she told him to be nice to you, but he knows he went a little too far. What if you spilt all the nasty things he said to you that day. Bucky took another long swig from the whiskey bottle, before responding to Nat.
I am outside your building. I know she doesn’t want to see me, so come out here and we will talk.
Okay. I’m getting her set up for a shower and then I will come out.
Bucky sat on the steps leading up to the main door of the building. His elbows are on his knees; his head is just hanging. He wonders what you are thinking about and what could have possibly gone wrong so quickly. He was so happy when he woke up this morning with you in his arms, and now? He doesn’t know what to think. Did you play him to get back at him?
Nat came out and sat next to Bucky on the stairs. She keeps her eyes in front of her and sighs.
“Buck, you gotta tell me what the hell happened? I thought you were finally making progress?!” she yelled.
Bucky looks at the sky before he sighs, “I honestly don’t fucking know what happened. When we woke up we were fine! She acted happy about what happened at first, and…. I went to the bathroom to change and when I came out she was acting cold to me,” Bucky said, sounding defeated.
Nat shook her head and looked at him. “Do you really feelings for Y/N? Or is this just some game to get back at her for that night in the bar?” Bucky’s eyes widened as he looked at Nat. He scoffed in disbelief.
“You and I've been together for a year, Nat! You know me better than that! How could you fucking ask me something like that!?” Bucky yelled standing.
Nat stood as well. “Look, she's my best friend, and she's been hurt! I need to know if your intentions are as true as you say, before I attempt to help you win back your girl!” Nat said.
Bucky shakes his head and wipes a stray tear from his cheek. “Yes, my feelings for her are real. I was blinded by hurt and anger, but I think I've always had some feelings for her. I'm sorry if that hurts you. You've meant so much to me, Nat, but..."
"I think I always knew. There was a reason you could never ignore her. You always had to get her attention somehow. I personally think you both would make a good couple. Since this has all come to pass though you can't sleep in my room now." Nat says with a smile.
Bucky gives a breathless laugh. "Is that what she thinks though? That I lied to get her into bed? Is that what she really thinks of me?” Bucky starts to feel anger creeping up.
Nat walks up to Bucky and pulls him into a hug. His anger starts subsiding as he holds Nat tighter allowing some tears to fall. He hides his face in her neck and tries to calm down. When he does he looks at Nat and kisses her forehead in thanks.
Before Nat can react they both hear a voice, “What the fuck!” They both pull away from their embrace quickly to see you turning around and running back upstairs. Bucky doesn’t think, he runs after you, with Nat trailing behind.
When they walk into the apartment, you're gathering your things. “Y/N, wait! What you saw–” “I don’t care what I saw James. It doesn’t matter. All it shows is that I was right and you are the biggest asshole in the world!” you said, interrupting him. Bucky slowly walks toward you.
“Y/N please, just talk to me! I don’t understand what the hell happened! What did I do to piss you off so badly? I thought we were happy!” He pleads.
You look at him with fire in your y/e/c eyes. You ignore him and look at Nat.
“I don’t blame you, so don’t worry Nat, but I called an Uber and I'm going to the airport now. All I want now is the key to my apartment.” You say looking back at Bucky. You hold out your hand waiting.
Bucky just looks at you with sadness in his eyes. Finally he sighs defeatedly, taking the keys out of his pocket. Once he releases the apartment key from the rest of his, he places it in your hand. You put it in your pocket and pick up your duffel bag, walking toward Nat giving her a hug.
“I'll call you when I land and we'll start plannin' my solo trip out here okay?” you say.
Nat looks at you sadly, but nods. You don’t look back toward Bucky, just walk to the door of the apartment, and leave. Nat and Bucky just look at each other for moment. Nat turns and runs out of the apartment after you.
“Y/N!” she calls as she sees you opening the door to your Uber. You turn and face her. “Bucky does have feelings for you. I've always known, and I've been the one pushing you both together. That's why I wanted you both to drive out here,” she says.
You look at her in shock, but recover quickly. “Well, your plan failed. He's lying about his feelings toward me, because I was nothing more than a bet to him. I’m sorry Nat, but it’s over.” you say.
Before she can respond you get in the car and close the door. The car pulls away and heads toward the airport, leaving Nat and Bucky behind.
Once you checked in to your flight, you head toward security. You place your duffel bag, purse, jacket, and shoes on the conveyer belt. You walk through the metal detector, which goes off. You check your pockets when you see the key that Bucky had. Tears start to well up in your eyes as you look at the TSA agent. You hand the key to her, “You can just throw this away. No one will need it.”
Nat walks sadly back into the apartment and found Bucky sitting on the couch with his head in his hands. She walks up and sits next to him.
“What was the bet you and Sam made?” she whispered.
Bucky doesn’t move, but she hears the muffled, “What?”
She says a little louder, “What was the bet… that you made with Sam?”
Bucky lifts his head and looks at her confused. “What the hell are you talking about Nat?” he asks, exasperated.
Nat just shook her head, “Y/N saw a text message this morning between you and Sam. You apparently told him he owed you $50 bucks and he asked how far you got.”
Bucky’s looks at Nat, still confused. “Uh… I bet him I could make it to your doorstep in 3 days, but because I decided to stop last night, I owed him $50. Why?"
Nat nods quietly. “She thought you made a bet about how far you could get with her. She thought everything you said about your feelings toward her was a lie to embarrass her because of what she said at the bar.”
Bucky stares at Nat in disbelief. “Wh- wh- why didn’t she say anything to me? Why didn’t she ask me for the truth?” Bucky says.
Nat shrugs, “I don’t know. She has always been very protective of her heart, and I guess it was easier to believe that you were lying, then toying with the idea that you actually liked her. I mean lets be honest, even I was unsure, at first. You were a complete douchebag for the last year, it makes sense that she's unsure.”
Bucky shakes his head, “Maybe I should just give up. She obviously will never trust me. What’s the point in tryin'?”
Nat gives Bucky a hug as more tears fall down his cheeks.
You get back to your apartment early the next morning. Looking around the room, everything looks as it did when you left, but you feel so different. You walk silently to Nat’s old room and stand in the doorway looking in. All that’s left is a mattress and box spring. You walk into the room and sit on the bed. You look at the empty walls, and for the first time in awhile, you feel utterly alone. You break down and start to sob.
You miss your best friend and you can’t believe you are thinking this after everything that has happened. But you miss Bucky.

Part 6 / Part 8
Will Bucky give up? Feedback is appreciated. I know my stories deal with toxic relationships and that it's not the way people would deal with things? But I use this as a therapy for me and unfortunately I have a lot of toxicity in my life. If it's not something you're down with, I completely understand.

My Roommate's Boyfriend - Chapter 8
Pairing: Bucky x Female Reader AU: Modern
Chapter Summary: Reader learns the truth, but will it change anything? Bucky comes home. Warnings: Angst, cursing
Series Masterlist
--
It’s been three days since you came home from Seattle. You spent those three days alone in your bed. You couldn’t stop crying or thinking about all that has happened over the last year, and especially over the last week.
You finally get up out of bed and decide you should head to the store to get food in your apartment, not that you have eaten. You walk aimlessly down the aisles grabbing this and that, not really paying attention. Suddenly you bump into someone and drop the hand basket, which caused your groceries to fall on the floor.
“I’m so sorry,” you hear a deep voice say.
You look up to see a handsome man ,with dark skin and a friendly smile, that you know to be Sam. You heat up in embarrassment, and hope he doesn’t recognize you.
“No, it’s my fault,” you say quietly, as you kneel down to grab your stuff. Sam also kneels down and looks at you.
“I know you!” he shouts. You feel even more heat on your face. “You’re Nat’s friend, Y/N, right?” he asks with a smile.
You nod and continue to collect your things. “Bucky isn’t home yet, so may I ask why you are?” he asks, lifting his brow.
You stand up straight once everything was back in your basket.
“Oh, uh… I decided to come home early. Give them some time alone.”
Sam gives you a knowing look, “Oh, I uh, guess he didn't get his head out of his ass and continued being an asshole to you, huh,” he says.
You look at him and scoff. “Has he given you the 50 bucks he owes you?” you say sarcastically.
Sam laughs, both eyebrows raised. “No, not yet. He doesn’t believe in Venmo. He's probably still pouting that he lost,” he said.
You nod, “Yea, well… make sure he pays up,” you say as you start walking away.
Sam shouts after you, “He's stubborn, but you gotta keep pushing him!”
You turn back and look at him, “I’m sorry?”
Sam laughs, “Bucky. He's really stubborn. I told him that he wouldn’t make it to Seattle in three days, but he wouldn’t listen. He was close, but I know him too well.”
You stare at Sam confused. Sam shakes his head, as he walks up to you. “The bet. It was about how long it would take him to make it to Seattle. He said three days, but I bet him it would take him more. I won.”
You can’t help but stare at Sam and wonder if he was telling the truth. “Did… did Bucky tell you anything about our trip?” you ask hesitantly.
Sam shook his head, “Nah, figure I'd get the details when he came home. Why? Did something happen?” he asks intrigued.
You shake your head. “N-no. It was nice seeing you again, Sam,” you say and quickly head to the checkout counter.
Your thoughts were going in every direction and you didn’t know how to get them straight. You quickly checkout and head home.
Bucky hugs Nat goodbye as he heads out to his Uber to take him home.
“Please don’t give up on her, Buck. I’m sure once you explain yourself, she'll come around,” Nat says into his shoulder.
Bucky kisses the top of her head. “I'll try, Nat. But she thinks so terrible of me, I don’t know if I'll ever win her over,” Bucky says.
Nat gives him her knowing smirk. “I think she will, and you know I am usually right.”
Bucky smirks as well and gets into the Uber, driving away towards the airport.
Bucky unlocks the door to his apartment and enters. Sam is sitting in the living room watching TV with a beer in his hand. “There he is! ‘Bout time you got home!” Sam shouts standing up and giving Bucky a slap on his shoulder.
“Oh, did you miss me, Sam?” Bucky said sarcastically.
Sam laughs, “Yea right! How was the trip man, talk to me.” Sam says as he grabs Bucky around the shoulder and drags him to the couch. Bucky can only sigh and shake his head.
“It… it wasn't what I expected, that’s for sure,” Bucky says as Sam hands him a beer.
“How did everything go with Y/N? I saw her yesterday,” Sam said.
Bucky’s eyes snap to Sam. “You saw her? Where? How did she look? Did she see you?” Bucky fires back quickly.
“Whoa man, chill. Yes, I saw her at the store. She seemed out of it. Like she hadn’t slept in days. Her eyes were all bloodshot like she was either stoned or she had been crying. We spoke a little,” Sam said.
Bucky’s heart broke more as he heard the way Sam described you. “Wh-what did she say?” Bucky asked, picking at the label of his beer.
Sam shrugged, “I asked her why she was home. She said she decided to give you and Nat privacy. Then she asked about the 50 bucks you owe me.”
Bucky looked at Sam in a panic, “And… what did you say.”
“I said you don’t believe in Venmo, so no you haven’t paid me yet. She seemed pissed off until I told her why you owed me the money. She seemed very confused and then ran out of the store like a bat outta hell. So, you gonna to tell me what happened on that trip of yours?” Sam asked.
Bucky stared at Sam. You knew the truth! So is what Nat said true? Will this mend things between you? He hasn’t stopped thinking about you since you left. He wanted to run after you, but Nat said you needed to cool down. He tried calling you, but it went straight to voicemail. He texted but no answer.
“I don’t know man. One minute we're fighting, like usual. Then she explained about what you overheard at the bar and I found myself standing on the side of the highway kissing the hell out of her,” Bucky said. Sam raises his eye brows, intrigued.
“Then she almost got attacked by a bunch of stupid fuckers, but I made it there on time and saved her. I slept with her that night, nothing happened, but I slept so well with her in my arms. Then the next day when we made it to the border of Washington, I knew I could have made it to Seattle, but I wanted one more night with her alone. I lied to her about the hotel only having one room, so we could share a room. Something happened between us, and it was the best sex I've ever had. We talked that morning and everything seemed fine. She asked to borrow my phone cause hers died and she wanted to text Nat.
I left her alone to change, which is when she saw the text between us about the 50 bucks. She thought I made a bet about gettin' with her. She started giving me the cold shoulder, and I didn’t know why. I planned on confronting her when we were in Seattle, but she changed her flight to that night. She never let me explain. She… she hates me,” Bucky said.
“Damn man. That sounds like quite a road trip. What did you do when she left?” Sam asked.
Bucky sighed, “I hung out with Nat, but I couldn’t get Y/N out of my head. Nat kept giving me advice, but I… I don’t know if I should bother. Maybe I should give up. I was an asshole to her for so long she will never see me in a good way.”
Sam smacked Bucky upside his head. “You’re a fucking dumbass dude!”
Bucky glared at Sam, rubbing the back of his head. “Why? Because I know a lost cause when I see one?” He asked.
Sam stands up and faces Bucky. “Dude, you've been secretly pining for this girl for a whole fucking year! Yea, you were an asshole, but apparently she still had feelings for you if she slept with you!” Sam said.
Bucky just looks at him, shaking his head. “It’s no use-”
“Man, shut the hell up! She misread a text message between us. Yes, she should've asked you about it, but based on your history she automatically assumed you were messing with her. She knows the truth now. So why are you still sitting here instead of running to her and talking this thing out? Do you still have feelings for her?” Sam asked exasperated.
Bucky nods, “More than I did before,” he whispers.
“Then get over there and don’t take no for an answer. Go get your girl!” Sam shouts.
Bucky stands up and grabs his duffel bag. “It’s late, I need to think about this. I’m going to bed,” he says, walking into his room, Sam shaking his head at him.
When Bucky closes the door Sam just says “Dumbass” to himself.
Bucky lays on his bed staring at the ceiling. He knows Sam is right, but he wants to do this right. He wants to sweep you off your feet! He needs to come up with a plan.

Of course Bucky won't give up... but will his plan work and will the reader and Bucky get together? We'll see. Feedback is appreciated.

--
You lay naked under the sheet, your head on Bucky’s chest, his right arm wrapped around you drawing shapes on your back with his fingertips, and his left hand playing with your right hand. He kisses the top of your head softly as you sigh in content. You've never felt so happy in your life. You were sure that you more than liked Bucky at this point, but you still didn’t want to do anything more until you spoke with Nat. You already went too far, but right now you didn't care.
“That was amazing,” you say softly with a smile on your face.
You hear and feel Bucky’s chuckle, “Yeah, it was. Best I've ever had,” He says kissing your forehead softly when you looked up at him.
You laugh, “I highly doubt that,” you say looking down at your hand in his.
Bucky lets go of your hand and cups your face so he can look into your eyes. “Really baby. I mean it,” he says before kissing you again on the forehead, nose, and then lips.
You run your hand through his hair, staring into his beautiful eyes before snuggling into the crook of his neck. Suddenly your eyes start feeling very heavy. Before you knew it, you fall into a deep sleep in Bucky’s arms.
You're awoken by the alarm on his phone. Bucky groans as he reaches on the night stand and turns it off. He then wraps his arms around you and nuzzles his nose into your hair placing soft kisses on your head. You blink several times, trying to get your eyes to stay open.
You yawn, “We should get going if we want to spend some time with Nat today,” you say. Suddenly you sit up in a panic.
“Oh my god, what're we gonna to tell Nat?” you shout in worry.
Bucky sits up slowly and rubs your naked back. “We'll talk to her. I know she'll understand. Trust me,” he says, kissing your shoulder.
You shake your head and cover your face, “I can’t believe I just slept with my roommates boyfriend!”
“Well technically I'm her ex-boyfriend,” Bucky says, grabbing your face to look at him. “Please don’t over think this. I know she'll be ok with this. If you wanna wait until further down the line when we're officially together then that's ok too,” he says.
You can’t help but smile, “You plan on datin' me when we get back to New York?” you ask.
He laughs and gives you a peck. “Oh most def'nitly! Though we should probably go a little slower than last night,” he says with a laugh, kissing your lips again. He feels addicted to your lips.
You both finally get up and go in search of clothes. You grab your phone to text Nat, to inform her that you'll be in Seattle in a few short hours, but your phone won’t turn on.
“Damn! My phone's dead, and I wanted to text Nat to let her know we'll be in Seattle soon.”
Bucky threw his phone over to you. “Use mine. I’m gonna use the bathroom and change,” he said as he walks into the bathroom and closes the door.
You look down at his phone and realize he has a text message open to Sam. You want to quickly close it to open a new text, but his text and Sam's response catches your eye:
Bucky: You were right, I owe you $50.
Sam: Man I knew it! How far did you get?
Tears rush to your eyes. He made a bet on getting with you?! What the fuck kind of bullshit is that? Everything he said was a lie! Why? Was it to get back at you for the misunderstanding a year ago! You feel the tears blur your vision, but quickly wipe them away. You want to walk into that bathroom and punch him in the face, but decide to just finish the trip, go home, and never see him again!
You quickly sent Nat the text telling her you will both see her in a few hours and that your phone is dead, but you will charge it in the car. As you place Bucky’s phone on the nightstand, he comes out of the bathroom, giving you a warm smile. You look down at your hands for a moment, before walking back over to your side of the bed to finish packing your stuff.
“We should get going,” you say sternly.
Bucky furrows his brow at you, “You okay?” he asks.
You look at him, with no emotion on your face. “I’m fine, can we just go please?” you say, putting your duffle bag on your shoulder.
You walk out of the room and head for the elevator, with Bucky’s hand on your lower back. You shrug away from him as you get into the elevator.
“What’s wrong?” he asks concerned.
You ignore him, keeping your eyes on the doors of the elevator. Bucky starts to panic internally. Were you regretting last night? Did you blame him for what happened? Is this just your guilt? He decides to leave you alone for awhile to sort out your feelings, but he can’t help but be hurt with the way you're treating him.
You're an hour outside of Seattle, and you haven’t said two words to Bucky since the hotel. Once your phone was charged, you started looking up flights back home. Originally you were going to stay in Seattle a few days, but right now, you don’t want to be anywhere near Bucky Barnes.
The earliest flight is 1 am this evening, which you quickly purchase. You know Nat'll be disappointed, but you'll just plan a solo trip out to see her another time. You feel Bucky glancing at you every few minutes, but you refuse to look at him. You just keep your eyes on your phone, or look out the window.
Bucky continues to have an internal war with himself. Should he confront you about the way you are acting? Did you hate him for last night? He really didn’t plan on sleeping with you, he just wanted to hold you again. But he definitely doesn't regret it, in fact he felt pretty good about it, until now. He hates that you're acting this way now. It makes him feel guilty and bad.
When he can’t take the silence anymore, Bucky clears his throat, “Are you sure you're alright? You’ve been acting weird since the hotel,” he says carefully.
You don’t say anything, don’t even look at him. Bucky’s heart starts to race, and panic sets in. You're definitely pissed at him.
“Okay, did I do something to upset you? If this is about last night, I’m sorry. We can tell Nat, and I'll take the full blame,” he says.
You scoff, but still say nothing. Bucky starts getting irritated and pulls over to the side of the road. When he puts the car in park he turns his body to look at you.
“Y/N, please tell me what is wrong!” he begs.
You have your arms crossed over your chest and you keep staring in front of you. “I don’t understand what happened. We were great this morning! We had an unbelievable night that I never want to forget, and now you're freezing me out. Are you regretting last night?” he says, panic and frustration evident in his voice.
Still you say nothing, but look down. Do you tell him what you saw on his phone? Should you give him a chance to explain? No! Why hear another excuse! You look at him for a moment then look back in front of you. “Please just get us to Seattle,” you say, emotionless.
Bucky continues to look at you with pleading eyes. He reaches for your hand, but you flinch away. His heart breaks. “You regret last night. I get it… I… I thought we were on the same page after our talk this morning, but I guess… I guess I was wrong,” he says sadly. Your heart breaks slightly at the sound of his voice, but you stand firm.
Bucky turns back forward and pulls back onto the highway. You hide the tear that falls from your face, but when you glance at Bucky again and see a tear fall down his. You want to reach up and wipe it away and kiss him, but all you keep thinking about is that damn text message. This is all part of his damn plan! He's a master manipulator and your done falling for his bullshit. You know once you got back to New York, he'd probably ditch you anyway.
Bucky decides to just give up on trying to talk to you, for now. He feels miserable. This hurts worse than breaking up with Nat, which says a whole lot on that relationship. He shakes his thoughts out of his head. Once they get to Seattle, he will have a few days to corner you and get you to talk about this. You have to tell him how you feel, you have to.
Bucky pulls up in front of Natasha’s apartment building. Natasha is there waiting, since you texted her telling her you guys entered the city. You can’t help the huge smile on your face as you get out of the car. You run up to Nat and you both embrace!
“I know it’s only been a week, but I’ve missed you!” you say into her shoulder.
She laughs, “I’ve missed you too!” she says.
She releases you and runs toward Bucky, giving him a big hug as well. Bucky keeps his eyes on you, and you can’t help but notice the sadness in them. When they release, she grabs both your hands and leads you up into her apartment.
“With my new job, I can afford a place on my own! I mean it’s nice to have my own space, but I miss having someone to hang out with all the time,” she says with a light laugh.
You smile at her as you look around the small one bedroom apartment. You walk into the living room and put your duffle bag down, and sit on the couch.
“Y/N the couch opens up into a full size bed and is comfortable, so you should have no problem sleeping there, and Bucky you can stay with me in my room,” she says looking between the two of you.
You and Bucky meet each others gazes for moment before you look back at Nat with a smile.
“I have the whole few days planned for us! You're both in for a treat! Tonight we'll go to a great restaurant downtown, and then this club for drinks and dancing. Tomorrow I found this cute brunch place we can try, and then–”
“Oh, uh, actually Nat, I'm going to head home tonight,” you say softly.
Nat looks from you to Bucky, who is staring at you in disbelief. You’re leaving tonight?! “Why? I thought you were going to spend a few days,” Nat says concerned.
You look at her and can’t help the tears that are coming to your eyes. “I-I know, but I got an email from work that they need me to come back sooner. I'll just have to plan another trip out here to party with you, alone,” you say.
“Bullshit!” Bucky says. You and Nat both snap your heads to him. “That's complete and utter bullshit and you know it!” he says angrily.
Nat puts her hands on her hips. “Ok, what's going on?” she says to both of you. You keep your head down, staring at your hands. You hear Bucky sigh.
“Look Nat, Y/N and I slept together last night. She's regretting it now and is back to hating my guts. I don’t know why though, because we were fine when we woke up this morning. But I think that's why she's leaving tonight. She wants away from me,” he says.
You glare up at him, before you look guiltily at Nat. She looks surprised, but you're shocked to not see betrayal in her facial expression.
“I’ll let you guys talk. I'm going to head down the street to that liquor store I saw,” Bucky says before leaving the apartment.
You look back down at your hands, not wanting to look Nat in the eye. Yes, you felt guilty about what happened with Bucky, but that's just the tip of the iceberg.
Nat sits back down on the couch and looks at you. “Y/N?” she says quietly.
You feel the tears sliding down your face and you choke on a sob. “I-I’m so sorry Nat. I'm sorry I slept with Bucky. I know you guys are technically not together, but I shouldn't have done it. And I guess the joke was on me because….” you can’t continue through your tears.
Nat slides closer to you and hugs you for a moment. You can’t help but sob into her shoulder. She rubs your back for a moment, which makes your feel worse. Why is she comforting you? You pull back and look at her, “Nat, I slept with your boyfriend, you should be angry at me, not comforting me!” you say.
Nat smiles softly at you and again wipes some of your tears. “Y/N, why do you think I had you both come out here together?” she asks.
You sniff and shrugging your shoulders. “Because you were tired of our fighting? I don’t know,” you say.
She nods, “Yea, I've been tired of your fighting for a long time, but it was because I knew you both had secret feelings for each other. There's no reason you both shouldn't see if something could come out of this,” she says. You look at her like she has 5 heads.
“Listen, if I was still home, I’m sure Bucky and I would have stayed together for a while longer, but he's not my forever. I know that and he knows that. I enjoyed my relationship with him, and, yeah, I'll miss him and his amazing body, but I’m not it for him,” she says.
“So because you know he isn’t it for you, you wanted to give him to me?” you ask confused.
She laughs, “Not exactly. After you told me how you were attracted to him that first night at the bar, I knew that you still had feelings for him. I mean he was an asshole to you, but I saw it in your face, and I saw it in his too. When he wasn’t looking at me… he was looking at you.”
You shake your head, not wanting to believe it. She sighs, “He told me about what Sam told him at the bar about you the other day after you talked to him about it. Of course I knew the truth and told him that, but that’s when I realized I was right. He was always meant to get with you that night.”
You laugh, “Nat, seriously? You/re throwing fate into this? You know that's bullshit.”
She shakes her head. “Is it?”
You shake your head again. You're so confused, but glad Nat isn’t mad at you. She looks at you with concern, “So tell me the truth. Why are you really leaving early, because Bucky's right. Your excuse is complete and utter bullshit. Is it because you regret sleeping with him?” she asks.
You shake your head. “No, it’s not that. Th-this morning when I realized my phone was dead, he let me use his to text you. When I looked down I saw a test he had with Sam. He... he told Sam he owed him 50 bucks and Sam wanted to know how far he got,” you say, tears falling from your face again.
“He fucking played me! He lied to us both, because he doesn’t have feelings for me, Nat! He made a stupid bet that I would hook up with him!” you say.
Nat says nothing but holds you while you cry. She kept whispering it’s okay over and over. You pull back and wipe your eyes. You are so tired of crying because of Bucky Barnes. You just want to go back to New York and never see him again.
Bucky is walking back to the apartment with a small bottle of whiskey in his hands. He occasionally takes a drink from it, the burn feeling good as it goes down his throat. He hopes to God that your talk with Nat went well and that she'll talk you into staying. How was he supposed to talk to you about both your feelings if you're not here?
Just then his phone buzzes. He looks and sees it’s a text from Nat:
We need to talk. Now.

--
You drive through North Dakota and into Montana before stopping for food. Bucky decides to actually eat at a diner, which you’re happy about. It’s been slightly awkward in the car since you left the motel is Minnesota, and you hope sitting down and talking will help.
The waitress gives you menus and coffee before walking away to give you time. Of course you notice her eyes undressing Bucky, which makes you scoff. Bucky looks at you confused, before he notices the waitress looking at him. He can’t help but smirk into his menu.
After you both place your orders, you decide to start the conversation. “Um.. I know yesterday was kind of crazy, and there is a lot of things we should talk about, but… I think we should just forget everything that happened and move forward with the trip,” you say.
Bucky frowns. “If that is what you want, then…” he trails off nodding not looking you in the eye.
You excuse yourself to go to the bathroom as Bucky sits there feeling confused. You may want to forget everything, but he isn't sure if he can. The kiss, sleeping in each others arms, everything that has happened in the last day keeps playing in his head over and over. He doesn’t know how he feels about any of this this. The feelings he's pushed down for you are suddenly erupting to the surface again. He thought you were might feel the same way as him, but maybe not. Maybe you never know. He needs to know for his own sanity.
You walk swiftly into the bathroom and look at yourself in the mirror. You know you don’t really want to forget all that's happened, but it’s the best choice. Why though, you're unsure. Is it because of Nat? Because he has been a complete asshole until yesterday? Both? You honestly don’t know. But you do know you loved the way his lips felt against yours; you loved the way he held you tight in his arms and made you feel safe. You know you still have those feelings you've had since you first laid eyes on him.
You splash some water on your face and head back out. You see Bucky watching you walk back, and when your eyes connect with his, butterflies start fluttering and your heart rate increases. You sit down and maintain eye contact for a moment before Bucky speaks.
“Y/N, I know I have been a huge asshole to you for the past year. I thought you judged me and that hurt because I really wanted to get to know you. I don’t regret my time with Nat, and I care about her a lot, but I would be lying if I said I stopped having those feelings for you.”
Your eyebrows shoot up, you didn’t expect that. You didn't think he gave you a thought.
“I know Nat and I agreed to break up now that she's on the other side of the country, and I'm not saying I want to jump right into a relationship, but I… I really don’t want to forget what happened between us yesterday. That kiss... it was honestly the best fucking kiss I've ever had, and I've never slept as good as I did when you were in my arms," he says softly.
He sighs and reaches across the table to grab your hand, "I don’t know where the future will take us, but I wanna see where this goes. Slowly of course, if you're interested.”
Before you have a chance to respond, your food comes out, causing Bucky to let go of your hand. You dive right in, as you're starving, but can't get Bucky's words out of your head. After a few minutes of eating, you look at him.
“Bucky, I… I have to think about this. Nat's my best friend and I don’t want to hurt her any more than I already have by what happened yesterday. I know she cares deeply about you, even if you truly are breaking up. I don’t want to give you an answer when I don’t know where she stands,” You say softly.
Bucky nods and goes back to eating. You finish your meal in silence, and head back to the car. You continue driving west in complete silence. You look at Bucky and see that he's deep in thought. You're worried he's pissed at you for not giving him an answer, but he had to give you time. Things changed so drastically so fast, there's no way you can make a sane decision now.
As the sun begins to set, you're vastly approaching the Washington state line. You can’t believe how quickly you drove through Montana and the small amount of Idaho, but you're glad you're close to Nat.
“If you want, we can get a hotel for the night and meet up with Nat tomorrow. Unless you want to hurry up and get to her now,” Bucky says, not looking at you.
To say you are surprised is an understatement. Bucky has been rushing you the entire trip and now he wants to make another stop before getting to Nat?
“Uh… Whatever you want to do, Bucky. If you're tired, then we should stop,” You say.
Bucky doesn’t reply and drives on through the state line. You think he going to go straight to Seattle, but instead he pulls into a hotel. You both get out of the car and grab your bags.
“I’m gonna run to the restroom real quick,” you say as you walk into the lobby. “Okay, I'll get the rooms,” Bucky says.
You head into the bathroom quickly, having sat in the car for hours. When you come back out, Bucky is standing against the wall.
“They uh… only had one room. I hope that’s okay,” he says looking down at his feet.
You clear your throat feeling the heat in your cheeks. “Uh… fine with me, if it’s okay with you. You slept in the car last time that happened.”
Bucky blushes and leads you to the elevator. When he presses the button for your floor, he looks at you. “I don't want to stay in the car this time,” he says.
When you enter the room, you see a queen size bed, a TV on the wall, a small table, and the bathroom. Very small, but perfect for what you needed.
“You want to shower first?” you ask him, throwing your bag on the bed.
You turn around and look at him when he doesn’t answer. You find Bucky just looking at you with an unreadable expression. The butterflies start up again and your face gets very hot.
He comes to his senses and finally clears his throat, “Uh, sure. Thanks.”
He grabs his bag and heads into the bathroom. You fan yourself as you feel the heat in your body increasing. His eyes are just so intoxicating. You don’t understand what you're feeling. You are so confused by everything over the last 2 days. You really wish you could talk to Nat about this now, but you're worried this will break her heart. You know she loves Bucky, and even though they're breaking up, what kind of friend just moves in on her best friend's boyfriend?
After about 15 minutes, Bucky comes out in grey sweatpants and a white t-shirt. You're a little put out that he's not shirtless this time, but scold yourself for those thoughts. You quickly grab your bag and run into the bathroom to shower. Bucky watches you until you close the door.
Bucky POV
Bucky lets out a sigh when you close the door. He can’t control his thoughts today. You've consumed him so much in the past day and he doesn’t know what the fuck to do. Ever since that kiss yesterday, all he's wanted to do was kiss you again. You want time, and he wants to respect that, but he also wants to just grab you and hold you in his arms, kissing the living shit out of you.
He can’t believe how fast his feelings for you resurfaced. He always ignored the feelings he had for you, even while dating Nat. He thought you were stuck up and judgemental, and he was honestly happy with Nat. God he feels like an asshole for even admitting that he thought about his girlfriends best friend and roommate.
Thinking about Nat and their year long relationship, Bucky knows does care for her, and always will. And sure, if she wasn’t moving they might have stayed together. But maybe not... maybe, even though he cared for Nat, he's always known she wasn’t the one for him. He thinks she knew it too, which is why she didn’t hesitate to take this job on the other side of the country and decide to end the relationship.
Yeah, he knows he's still the asshole for these thoughts. But he can't help it.
You come out of the bathroom wearing black sweatpants and a tank top. You see Bucky lying on the bed staring at the ceiling. When he hears you, he looks at the door and offers you a small smile. You return it before walking over to your side of the bed. Bucky watches you the entire time. When you settle in, you turn on your side and look at him.
“You okay?” you ask softly.
Bucky turns on his side to face you. “Yeah, I think so. Just a lot of things on my mind,” he says.
He goes to tuck a piece of your hair back, but halfway through the movement, he rethinks and drops his hand. You look at his hand on the bed, and slide your hand over it.
“I do too,” you whisper.
Bucky is looking at your hand on his, and he turns his hand over and interlocks your fingers. You both stare at your hands and then each other.
“I don’t want to rush you, Y/N. But I want you to know that I meant what I said earlier,” he says softly.
You nod and squeeze his hand. “I know. Thank you.” you say, looking from his eyes to his lips.
You feel like a magnet is pulling you toward him. Suddenly you release his hand and tuck a strand of his hair behind his ear. Bucky closes his eyes at the feeling of your hand in his hair. You palm his cheek and rub your thumb on his cheekbone. He opens his eyes and stares at you.
You feel the electricity between the two of you. You want to pull away, but at the same time you don’t. You start pulling his face toward you and gently place a kiss on his lips. This kiss is much softer than the one yesterday, but feels so much more powerful. The butterflies have gone crazy in your stomach. Bucky gently grabs your face and pulls you closer to deepening the kiss. He takes his time, slowly massaging his tongue against yours.
Bucky pushes you onto your back and lays on top of you. He continues to kiss you passionately. You wrap your arms around his neck, holding him as close as possible, while his hands start to wander down your body. Your heart is beating so fast that you think you will pass out, but you know this feels good. This feels right.
You’re screwed.

My Roommates Boyfriend - Chapter 4
Pairings: Bucky x Female Reader AU: Modern
Chapter Summary: Aftermath of the kiss. Bucky and the reader stop at another motel for the night. Chapter Warnings: Angst (duh), Cursing, Harrassment, Implied Gang Rape
Series Masterlist
--
You continue driving and make it to the border of Minnesota and North Dakota, when you finally stop at a motel. The rest of the drive has been complete and utter silence. After Bucky kissed you, you pulled away in surprise. You both stared at each other for a moment, before you reached out for him and brought his lips back to yours.
You allowed him to deepen the kiss and explore your mouth with his tongue. You felt your whole body come alive for the first time in so long. You didn’t want to let go, but the need to breath forced you both to separate. No words were said as Bucky took your hand and guided you back to the car. Then... nothing.
Now you're at another motel, and you honestly don’t know what to expect. Neither of you have said a thing since the kiss, and you don’t know what he's thinking. You walk into the office of the motel, where Bucky asks for two separate rooms. You're grateful to have some alone time to think. You walk up to your rooms and before you go in you look at Bucky as he unlocks his door.
“D-did you want to do dinner?” you ask quietly.
He looks at you, his expression unreadable, “No thanks. I need some time alone. I’ll see you in the morning at 5, okay?” he asks.
You nod and watch him go into his room without sparing you another glance. You go into your room, and lock the door behind you. You slide down the door to the floor and let out a sob. Your mind is all over the place, but the one thing that keeps coming up is that you kissed Bucky. You kissed the person who has been a complete dick to you for over a year. But even prior to that a lot of things came out into the open. It's just been an overly emotional day.
Once you showered, you looked at your phone to see what was around for food. You found a McDonalds that was within walking distance, so you throw on a hoodie, and shoes and walk out your door. You thought about stopping to ask Bucky again, but decided against it.
You walk down the block and head inside. While you're there, you see a group of young guys, possibly college age, sitting in a group. You order your food and while you are waiting, you hear the guys cat-calling you. You decide to ignore them, since you were in no mood to deal with stupidity tonight. You got your food and left. While walking back, you continue to hear the same voices calling out to you. You turn around and see that group of guys were following you. You tried to speed up, but they caught up to you quickly.
“What’re you doin' out here alone beautiful, huh?” One of the guys says.
You keep your head down, clutching your food. The rest of the group completely surrounds you, and you felt trapped. Your heart started pounding a mile a minute in fear of what might possibly happen. You look at the guy who spoke. He had blonde hair and green eyes, and would be considered good looking if he wasn’t stalking you.
“Please, leave me alone. I'm just tryin' to get back to the motel,” you mutter, while trying to push past the group, unfortunately they do not let you leave.
“Why don’t you stay and hang out with us. We'll show you a good time,” the blonde said again, while his friends laughed.
You continue to try and force your way out of the group, but they just laugh at your feeble attempts. You start to panic that they will do something to you.
“Look, my boyfriend is at the motel, and he'll be coming soon to look for me, if you don’t let me go,” you say, hoping that will scare them off.
The blonde just laughs tauntingly. “What kind of boyfriend lets his girl out alone?” he sneers at you, getting closer and grasping your arm, pulling you into him as his other hand starts to grope you.
“The kind that will fucking kill you if don't get your fucking hands off her!” you hear from a familiar voice.
You look up and there's Bucky, looking angrier then you have ever seen him. The relief you feel is indescribable. The blond stops groping but holds you close to him so you can't escape.
“It’s time for you all to move along, or do you actually have a death wish tonight?” Bucky says menacingly.
The blonde just laughs and squeezes you closer making you whimper.
“With the sounds she's making, I think she wants to stay. And besides, what makes you think you could take all of us on, asshole?” he asks.
Bucky looks from you to him, getting angrier by the second. Bucky stalks up to the circle, which parts to let him into the center of the group. All the guys are egging the blond on to kick Bucky's ass. The blond throws you to the floor and swings at Bucky. Bucky blocks the punch and sends a swift uppercut to the mans jaw, causing him to fly a few feet and hit the ground out cold. The other guys stand there in complete shock.
Bucky looks around at them all with fire in his eyes, "Any one else want to take a fucking swing? Any one else want to touch my girl?!" he asks angrily, and they all take a step back.
Bucky quickly picks you up bridal style and turns to head back to the motel. They stare at him as he walks past them with you in his arms. You wrap your arms around him and nuzzle your face into his neck, as tears flow down your face. Bucky says nothing as he walks.
He opens the door and walks in, closing it with his foot. He places you on the bed and kneels in front of you. He wipes the tears from your cheeks with his thumbs as he whispers, “You’re okay; I got you.”
You openly sob for a few minutes and Bucky sits on the bed and pulls you into his lap, allowing you to cry. After you start to calm down he places a soft kiss on your forehead. You look at him then look around and realize he brought you back to his room.
You take a steadying breath, “I.. I think I’m okay,”
You give him a small smile as you stand up. Bucky gives one back as stands with you.
“Are you sure?” he asks, fear evident in his eyes.
You nod, “Yeah…Thank you… for saving me.”
Bucky blushes as he smiles at you, it’s the first time he ever directed a real smile at you and it causes butterflies in your stomach. It’s the most beautiful thing you have ever seen.
“I uh, I should go back to my room,” you say.
“You sure you’re okay?” he asks, generally concerned.
You just nod and walk to the door. “Yea... um... goodnight” you say.
“Goodnight.”
Bucky POV
Bucky watches you leave, and once the door closes he let out the breath he was holding. He doesn’t know what to make of today. It was such a rollercoaster. After speaking with Nat last night, he promised he would be on his best behavior. He thought ignoring you would be the solution, and it was going well in the beginning. Until you had to ask about THAT night. He knows what he said was terrible, and that he really didn't mean it, but it brought up all the pain again and he just snapped. He didn't expect you to react like that. He hated seeing you have a panic attack, and hated even more that it was because of him.
While your side of the story seems plausible, he wasn't sure if he could actually believe it.  Ask Nat you said. Maybe he should. Then he thought about what you said. You had wanted him as much as he had wanted you, AND you said you still seem to like him. He doesn’t know why because he knows he's been horrible to you.
Bucky sighs and picks up his phone to text Nat:
Hey, we're practically in North Dakota. My plan is to be in Washington State by tomorrow, as long as we don’t make too many stops.
Yay! I can’t wait to see you both! How are things going with Y/N?
Bucky looks at his phone and decides he needs to know if you were telling the truth. He quickly types his response to Nat and waits.
Reader POV
You lay in bed staring at the ceiling thinking about what a clusterfuck the day turned into. First you were basically sitting on egg shells while he ignored your existence, then you just had to bring up the drama. The words that he said, even now make tears come to your eyes. Did he really think of you that way?
But the way he took care of you, while you had your embarrassing panic attack. He held your hand to his chest and got you to match his breathing. Something tells you that what he said was true, that he did have some feelings for you, at least at some point. He must be a complete asshole if he was willing to help you out of your attach.
Even after you calmed down, he continued to just hold your hand, even brushing his thumb over your knuckles. Just the thought brought goosebumps to your skin. You always thought there was something wrong with you to like him when he's been mean to you, but you can't help it.
Then he kissed you! You can still feel his soft lips on yours, the taste of him in your mouth. God, you had dreamed of him kissing you, and now that you had it, you wanted more. But you couldn’t do that to Nat, plus you don’t know what he thinks of you now anyway. He could be acting like this because you freaked him out with your panic attack.
Then to top off the entire fucked up day, you almost get gang raped when you were just trying to get food. Again, Bucky took care of you and saved you. You owe him so much for that. Now you lay here and wish you had stayed in his room with him. You're too scared to close your eyes, that the nightmares of what could have happened to you will appear.
Before you even know what you are doing, you find yourself leaving your room and standing in front of his door. You don’t see the light on from under the door and think maybe you should leave him alone. But you knock softly anyway, just to see. After a moment, the door opens to find Bucky in those black sweatpants, hanging low on his hips, no shirt, and his hair in a low bun. He looks surprised to see you.
“Hey… uh… sorry if I woke you, but…. I-I couldn’t sleep…. and–” you stutter through your sentence.
Before you could finish, Bucky takes your hand and pulls you into the room and closes the door.
–
You wake up the next morning and find yourself snuggled tightly in Bucky’s arms, with your face nuzzled into his neck. Bucky is still sound asleep, which allows you time to look at him without him knowing. His face is so soft while he sleeps, with his lips parted just slightly. He's just so beautiful! God, you want to kiss him again.
What the hell is wrong with you? This man made your life hell, and now you act like some lovesick puppy! Plus he was dating Nat!
Bucky starts to stir and slowly opens his eyes and looks right into yours. He blushes when he sees how tight he is holding you.
“Oh… uh sorry. I guess I like to cuddle when I sleep.” he said bashfully, letting you go.
You can’t shake the disappointed feeling of not having his warmth around you. You just smile, “It’s okay… I didn’t mind. Thank you for letting me sleep in here last night,” you say quietly.
Bucky looks from your eyes to your lips, then back.
“No problem.” he says quickly before getting up out of bed.
You frown, but figure you might as well get up too. You look at the clock and see that it is 5 am.
“We should get going if we are going to make it to the Washington state line by tonight,” Bucky says as he walks toward his bathroom.
You nod, “I’ll get dressed and meet you at the car in 15 minutes?” you ask as you head toward the door.
Bucky just nods before closing the door to the bathroom. You quickly leave the room and go into yours. You run to the bathroom to freshen up and then change into jeans, a t-shirt, and hoodie. After brushing your teeth and putting your hair up, you pack your things and head out to the car, where Bucky is waiting.
