historical accuracy in fics is so funny to me. googling if they had grapefruit spoons in 1845 but also letting two men get married. fuck homophobia, tell me about cutlery.

there's something so special to me about older fandoms who have gone through the nine rings of cringe and every stage of internet fandoms and still are going strong somehow

If you say a healthy relationship where the characters respect each other and are an equal level is "boring" you are an instant red flag to me, because every person who says this turns out to be a piece of shit that glorifies abuse and, if they are a creator, generally suck at storytelling as well
EDIT: Just to clarify I don't mean you can't enjoy toxic ships. I didn't get it across well, but what I'm talking about is fans who ignore blatant abuse and try paint it as a "spicy romance" and dismissing healthier ships/couples as "boring and vanilla". If you refuse to acknowledge a relationship is toxic and instead glorify/romanticise it while saying actually healthy ships are too boring then you are in fact a red flag

Nah, you know what makes my blood boil?
Seeing characters degraded, vilified, and desecrated in the name of ship wars.
No, Aang did not strip Katara of her agency nor did he only accept the "digestible" parts of her, leave my baby alone.
No, Zuko isn't just a selfish colonizer, bro did not have one of the greatest arcs of all time for you to reduce him to that.
No, Katara wasn't just a mother to everyone, for fuck's sake, did we watch the same show?
I can go on and on and fucking on, but all I'm gonna say is I'm fucking tired of y'all's shipping discourse.
It was never that serious, it will never be that serious.
I think that both Zutara and Kataang are great ships in their own right, with their respective pros and cons. I also think it comes down to personal taste.
Of course, people can have differing opinions on characters, regardless of the inclusion of ships or not. But at the very least, stick to your own.
Ship and let ship. Remember when this was fun?
Don't invade spaces that aren't yours to start trouble, and stay appropriate with the tags. Fandom etiquette, it's pretty neat.
Y'all suck the joy out of everything.

you know when you’re watching a show and you just see the moment when a non-canon ship is born and know the fandom is gonna take it and run

Character: *is canonically violent and abusive but has a sad backstory*
Normal people: he isn't real and it's cool and fun to explore his character in different scenarios
Freaks: he was right actually AND he is a poor little boy, he was MISUNDERSTOOD. actually those children were abusive towards him first but the narrator was unreliable so :/

It always baffles me how much people believe that their ideas about gay sex and shipping come from nowhere when it's clearly just thinly veiled homophobic and sexist stereotypes that fem=bottom=submissive we’re all unconsciously taught growing up in homophobic societies (with racist undertones anytime half of a ship is not white). i believe it to be unconcsious bias, im not blaming people for not having unpacked why they jump to headcanon the character performing the most traditional masculinity to be a top, but it’s getting tiring. Especially when authors refuse to question themselves when getting callled out for fetichizing, say, latino men and reducing them to sex-obsessed, domineering, possessive, bordeline abusive partners. I promise you your tendency to make the more traditionally masculine one a top with a dominant attitude does not come from yourself entirely. It’s not something you just “happen” to consistently repeat your work for no subjacent reason. You have every right to hold these headcanons, and to like exploring these dynamics, i sometimes even agree with those interpretations myself ! But we all should be careful and conscious of the why, what pushed us to hold these headcanons, and check it’s not rooted in shallow gendered and racialized stereotypes.
Anyways

you go into the critical tags of a male character and its like "yeah he abused women and murdered innocent kids but he's not outright terrible" and then you go into the normal tags of a female character and they're calling her an evil bitch for like, protecting her children or something

Ok but. You know those ships where it’s like “boy this would be so cute if one of the guys wasn’t insane and the two of them led normal lives not filled with death and trauma”

i am MORE than willing to admit that this specific issue that i have is entirely inconsequential, and that i care far too much about it because i have turbo autism and a sense of priorities divorced from reality
but i'm gonna keep talking about it anyway, it's my blog, you cannot make me log off and touch grass, i will never touch grass.
why is it that people are so weirdly intent on headcanoning june egbert as Literally anything other than a trans woman y'think.
why is it that after the june egbert plot spoiler was revealed there was just a massive influx of "j egbert" "enby any pronouns genderfuck" egberts lmao, like even when you're making the character transfem you have to keep in that masculine edge, never make her a pure trans woman. "don't worry it's okay you can still call him a guy"
like i don't wanna be mean to people who genuinely take joy in that interpretation of the character for any reason, but also i do not trust this fandom's track record with being normal about trans women specifically lmao

Me: they're so silly!!
The character in question:
Would murder me if given the chance, foaming at the mouth like a rabid dog, a feral dumpster rat.
