Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love ❤️
As I said on my first fic rec post, I have written very many fics and I love almost all of them, so I can't pick FAVORITES so much as CATEGORIES, and this category is going to be "Fics Joanna Made Me Write Outside My Comfort Zone Because It's Good For Me Or Something"
Whenever I view the moon on the battlefield This was the FIRST fic I wrote outside of ANS fandom, and if that was not already out of my usual groove enough, it's also from the POV of one of the minor characters in Hakuouki, Shimada Kai. The concept was originally conceived while I was streaming a playthrough for the obiyuki discord-- Yamazaki (our best boy) and Shimada are both spies and spend quite a bit of time off screen, so we kept running into scenes and being like "how AWKWARD is it for those two to be watching this right now?" And so when it finally came time for me to throw my hat into the yamachi ring...Joanna asked for THIS to be the fic. You know. Instead of one where Yamazaki and Chizuru actually kiss or whatever. Sigh.
The Most Perverse Creature in the World Listen. I know there are people out there who LOVE xReader fics. I'm happy for you, truly. I am not one of them. But after answering the fandom fuck/marry/kill game (otherwise known as only one bed/slow burn/enemies to lovers) with small littler blurbs about the kind of story I would write for the older gentlemen in ANS (Shidan, Lata & Haruka), SOME PEOPLE got very invested in Haruka's little enemies-to-lovers blurb. Some people made puppy eyes. Some people made puppy eyes and then got very sick after, and I AM A GOOD FRIEND and wrote ONE CHAPTER and have never known a day of peace since. Six years later it's up to thirteen chapters, has a very complicated plot involving the politics of taxing oral sex, and I've learned how to effectively write in 2nd person.
don't speak boyshit I cannot properly explain how absolutely in our heads the Maria/Kamitani pairing is, but like. It's good okay?? Joanna did not so much force me to write this one so much as like...emphatically encourage its existence, to the point where I have a very complicated outline and she routinely reminds me I'll finish it when i'm like. 50. But this is certainly the gateway fic to the OTHER fics for this pairing she DOES want to twist my arm over, SO ON THE LIST IT GOES. I am one of TWO authors in this ship tag, and also one of TWO fics...and yet this is one of my most popular non-ANS fics 🤣
If the Mind Is Willing This is a fic Joanna will HAPPILY admit to being the main driver for, since, as she puts it, "there is no one else who could possibly ever write this fic." Taking TWO very niche concepts (LARP and a SURPRISE FOR LATER) and a very niche pairing (yamachi) would perhaps not have been MY first choice...but Joanna asked for the first chapter as a birthday gift a few years back and here I am, learning a whole new tabletop system and really giving my FBI agent something to talk about at the watercooler.
He Who Studies Evil Of all the niche fics Joanna has convinced me to put to paper (or at least, word document), this is probably takes the top spot. A prequel to my obiyuki Star Trek AU, this covers events about 10 years previous, with Haruka taking over DS9 and immediately being thrown into a political nightmare when he is informed that the Cardassians are in possession of a missing human child. This took...an INORDINATE amount of time to research and write-- I hadn't seen DS9 since I was in high school, and I watched through nearly half a season just to get the timeline right-- but I still REALLY love how it came out. Which is good, because it is definitely one of my least read fics 🤣

Tumblr media
The first thing that the doctors want to tackle is your brain bleed because if you don't make it, then the babies won't have a fighting chance. The on-call pediatric surgeon, Dr. Robbins, is in the OR monitoring the babies' heartbeats, and she gives the okay for the neurosurgeon, Dr. Shepherd, to begin.
After being prepped, the Dr. Shepherd exposes your brain to where the bleed was located. He grabs his tools and begins his work, frowning when he gets a good look at the damage.
"This is weird," he mutters.
"What is it, doctor?" one of the scrub nurses asks.
"I see blood, but not as much as there was in the CT scan."
"That's a good thing, right?"
"She's healing, but at a rapid rate."
The doctor definitely has questions, but all he is focused on is fixing you up so that when you do wake up, he can talk to you about this. Your magic heals you of the damage, even as the doctor patches you up with collagen sutures. Dr. Shepherd is working quickly to get you patched up that he doesn't really notice how your brain is mending back together like magic.
"Okay, Doctor Robbins, you're good to go."
"Alright, let's get these babies out quickly but safely."
The PEDs surgeon makes an incision on the lower side of your abdomen, and then she makes an incision on your uterus wall on the same spot so the delivery is as smooth as possible. Baby A, or Maryann, is head first towards your pelvic which she is in the perfect position if you were to give birth to her naturally.
Dr. Robbins gently lifts Maryann out of the womb, and as soon as she breaches the surface, she takes in a lungful of air. She lets out a loud cry which is the best possible sign that her lungs are good for being born two months early. Dr. Robbins holds her while one of the scrub nurses cut the umbilical cord to separate her from the womb.
Dr. Robbins brings Maryann over to the small incubator that she will be living in for the next two months so the doctors can monitor her closely.
"Clean her up and bring her to the NICU. I will be up as soon as possible."
"Yes, doctor."
Maryann is taken away, and Dr. Robbins turns to you to remove the other baby, Robert. She reaches inside your womb and grabs Robert, immediately feeling something wrong. Something isn't right. She removes Robert, but he isn't as loud as his sister. In fact, he isn't making any noise. Babies don't always scream right as they come out, but Dr. Robbins knows he won't ever get the chance to scream.
Robert is pale, too pale for her liking. He is limp in her grasp, and the umbilical cord is wrapped around his neck. Likely due to the fall you suffered, the umbilical cord wrapped itself around his neck. Robert never had a fighting chance at life. This is a freak accident, but that doesn't make it any less sad.
"Is he going to be okay?" one of the scrub nurses.
"Unfortunately not," Dr. Robbins sighs. She calls the time of death for your son, and the entire OR is silent for your loss. "Let's get Y/N cleaned up. Does she have someone with her?"
"She has a husband. I'll be informing him," Dr. Shepherd sighs.
You're stitched back together, and when you're redressed in the hospital garment, your magic works well to heal you so that no scar will be left after this. You're taken to your own private hospital room while Dr. Shepherd prepares himself for the talk he is going to have with Dean. It's not going to be fun, and it's going to end in tears, but it's something that he won't be able to sugarcoat.
Dean sits in the waiting room with Joanna sitting next to him, and he is biting his nails down to the nubs.
Please let Y/N be okay, and please look after Sammy, Dean thinks to himself.
Garth walks into the local police department since he and Sam split up. Sam is with Portia right now, which Garth is okay with since he'd rather do the easy stuff than be with the woman who can change into a dog. Garth is being escorted by a man in a white coat to the lead on the case, Ed Stoltz.
"Ed, this is special agent Keith. He needs some information on the case."
"Josh here tells me you don't have a lot to go on."
"Yeah. We have vics who lived in isolated parts of the city who meant nothing to nobody."
"Right. Well, my partner and I had a look at the crime scenes. Well, we did manage to find this piece of fabric." Garth hands over the piece of white clothes with blood on it. It's the same cloth that was on James' shirt that Sam ripped off. "Things get overlooked. It happens. Why don't you run the blood? It could be the victim's or it could be the killer's. Let's see if we get a match."
"A witness did mention seeing a man in a suit and a white shirt leaving the area," Ed sighs.
"You didn't mention a witness in your report. Anything else?"
"No. We'll get back to you on the lab work."
"Sure, but this witness--"
"That's all that was said, agent Keith. We really don't have a lot here, okay? We'll be in touch."
Garth isn't too happy with the way the lead is treating him, but what can he do? He leaves the station without another word, not wanting to cause a scene in front of everyone. Maybe Sam will have more luck with Portia down at the club where familiars and their witches go to frequently.
"Am I getting the stink eye in here or what?" Sam asks Portia due to all the stares he is receiving.
"They can tell you're an outsider."
"Are they all witches?"
"Enough of them are. If there's information out here about James, they'll know."
"How did James find you, anyway?" Sam asks, not wanting to sound rude.
"That's not the way it works. The familiar finds the master, and they become inseparable."
"Portia," a man sitting in a booth gestures for her to come over to him. Her and Sam both maneuver around the tables to get to him. "Over here."
"Sam, meet Phillippe LeChat. Sam's a wiccan from Detroit. Is Spencer here?"
"Somewhere. Tell me about James. There's a lot of buzz out there about him."
"It's all gossip. The community has a little attitude going," Portia rolls her eyes.
A tall man walks up to the table and stares at Sam before moving his eyes over to Portia.
"Uh, I'm a wiccan. I'm from Detroit," Sam stutters.
"Spencer's the man to ask about our little problem," Portia whispers to Sam.
"Have you ever heard of a spell where a witch can control the actions of another witch?"
"No, I've never heard anything like that. I don't think it's possible. How's James?" Spencer akss Portia.
"Better. I'll tell him you asked."
"Philippe, it's time we get going."
"Of course. Good night, Sam and Portia. It's very nice to meet you."
Philippe transforms into a cat right before Sam's eyes and Spencer picks him up. He must be Spencer's familiar. Sam watches them both leave when his phone rings, and he answers it when he sees Garth's name.
"Hey, where are you?"
"In some witch bar. Why?"
"Listen, I just got the lab work back from the blood on James' shirt. It's not looking good. The blood's an exact match to victim number three."
"Well, that pretty much says it all, doesn't it?"
"Yeah."
Sam and Garth silently agree that James is the one killing these people, and the only way to stop him is to put him down. Portia isn't going to like it, which is why the two men wait until it's later that night to break into James' house and kill him. Portia has no clue this is what they're planning, so it should go by smoothly if she isn't home.
Sam enters through the house first with Garth behind him in case Portia decides to attack from behind them. Bobby had a concoction that would kill witches without using bullets, and it was messy to put together, but Sam managed to get everything in working order. The weapon looks like a clear flask filled with blood with a piece of cloth stuffed in the top of it to replace the cork.
Some might say it's a Molotov cocktail, but it kills witches easily.
Sam quietly makes his way into James' bedroom where he is still chained to the bed. He seems to be sleeping, but when both men are near his bed, he opens his eyes. James is not surprised that they're here, nor does he react at seeing the weapon. Sam takes out his lighter and clicks it open, bringing the flame closer to the cloth. Before he can light the cloth, Porita comes out of the bathroom in a panic.
"No! No, Sam! You have to listen to me, please. It's not James!"
"We should hear her out. He is still chained," Garth whispers to Sam.
Both men and Portia leave James chained to the bed as they talk in the living room. She deserves to explain why it's not James before they think about killing him.
"Tonight, James and I were close--intimate. We have an unusual relationship. Familiars aren't supposed to be sexually involved with their witches. James and I  hadn't made love in weeks. His agony ate him up, and he shut me out. But tonight, I saw his thoughts and memories of the murders. Sam, all I saw were the kills. No preparation, no thought process, no anticipation, and no motive. Just the kills without context."
"No other awareness of the crimes?"
"No. Doesn't that at least suggest he's under another's control?"
"Spencer said that wasn't possible."
"He said he'd never heard of it. James is chained. He's confined. At least take a shot."
"We owe it to him and ourselves to give him that shot," Garth convinces Sam.
Sam's phone rings again, and he opens Dean's message.
Still no update. I'm about five seconds from storming in there and getting answers myself. I'll let you know what happens.
Dean is this close from beating up some doctors when he sees the same doctor as before with a female doctor entering the waiting room.
"How is she? Please tell me she is okay."
"Follow me, Mr. Winchester."
Dr. Shepherd and Dr. Robbins leads Dean to the same conference room as they were in before. Before Dean can get comfortable with Joanna, he notices an older woman standing outside of the door as if she is supposed to be there. The doctors let her inside the room, but Dean doesn't know who she is or why she is here.
"I've asked Ms. Hamilton from Social Services to watch over your daughter while we talk, if that's okay?"
"Yeah, of course." If there is bad news, he doesn't want Joanna to hear about it. "Joanna, be good for Daddy, okay? Go with the nice lady."
"Come on, sweetheart. I have some toys to play with."
Joanna goes with her without a problem, and when they are both out of the room, Dean looks like he is about ready to cry due to the unknown.
"Please tell me my wife is okay."
"I did locate the bleed in your wife's brain. I was able to patch it up easily without issue, and she is healing very nicely. I expect her to make a full recovery without any repercussions. If she is well enough, she can go home in a few days."
One part of Dean's stress is lifted from his shoulders, and he feels a little better about this. He takes a few deep breaths before letting the doctor continue.
"About your daughter--"
"Her name is Maryann," Dean cuts him off nervously.
"Yes, of course," Dr. Robbins smiles. "Maryann, despite being born two months early, is actually doing very well for her age. She will be staying in the NICU for two months until we see progress, and she is being closely monitored as we speak. I have high hopes for her if she continues the way she is going. She had a very strong set of lungs, and that's always a good sign."
Another part of Dean's stress is lifted from his body. Both Maryann and his wife are going to be okay. He has no doubt Maryann will pull through.
"What about my son? Robert?"
Dr. Shepherd and Dr. Robbins look at each other before Dr. Robbins takes a deep breath because this is the hardest thing to ever tell a parent. As soon as the words "I'm sorry" comes out of her mouth, Dean falls to the desk in tears. He doesn't have to hear anymore, he already knows what happened. Dr. Robbins' words are muffled since all he can hear is his own heartbeat.
"How?" Dean's voice cracks.
"The umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck. We were able to preserve his body long enough for you to see him if you'd like."
"Is Y/N awake?"
"Not right now. Would you like to see him?"
"Yes."
Dr. Robbins takes Dean to an empty OR where his son was placed. There is a sheet covering his small body, and Dr. Robbins lowers the sheet so that his face is visible. Dean breaks down at the sight of his dead son, and his knees buckle beneath him. There is a wheely chair next to him, so he sits on it and wheels himself closer to his son.
"When you're ready, we can take his foot and handprints. We can also preserve a lock of his hair as well as bag his identification bracelet for you. We can talk about what you'd like to do for after-life care when you're ready."
"Okay," Dean sniffles.
"I'll give you some time alone."
Dr. Robbins leaves the OR, and as soon as Dean is alone, he sobs into his hands. Robert looks so small and innocent. Why did this have to happen to him? With a shaky hand, he runs the back of his finger down Robert's small face. He is cold to the touch, but Dean doesn't seem to mind.
Before Dean gets to the point where he can't talk because of how much he is crying, he calls Sam.
"Hey, did you get an update?" Sam answers.
"He's gone, Sammy," Dean cries. "Robert didn't make it."
"What?"
"He died," Dean sobs.
"Do you need me to come back?"
"No, go gank that son of a bitch, and then you can come here. What are you going to do here?"
"Dean, I am so sorry. Is Y/N awake?"
"No. I don't know how I am going to break it to her. She was so excited for his arrival. She decorated his nursery and everything."
"Dean..."
"Please hurry up and get back here."
Dean hangs up on Sam before he can say anything else. Garth is staring at Sam in anticipation, but based on his look, he knows something bad happened.
"What did he say?"
"His son didn't make it."
"What?"
"Yeah," Sam whispers.
"Do you want to go back? I can handle this myself."
"No, we came here to do a job, and that's what we're going to do. Why don't you go back to the police station and talk to Ed some more."
"Yeah, I guess I can. Something didn't sit right with me when I talked to him. Are you going to be okay?"
"Yeah."
Garth knows he needs some time alone, so he leaves the motel room. As soon as Sam is alone, he breaks down crying at the loss of his nephew. Garth sheds a few tears because he's gone very close with you, and your loss is his loss. He loves your kids, and the thought of one of them not making it breaks his heart.
Still, he's here to do a job, and he's not going to let Sam down.

The Royal House of Trastámara (Redux)
Tumblr media
So since the Trastámara family has become even more complete with the addition of Juan, I figured I'd make redo of this post! So here are the daughters and son of the Royal House of Trastámara.
Link to original post
Isabella of Aragon, Queen of Portugal
Tumblr media
The eldest child of Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabella I of Castille, Isabella was named after her mother and became the heir presumptive to the Crown of Castille after her mother took the throne from her uncle Henry IV of Castille. She was betrothed and married to Prince Afonso, heir and only son of John II of Portugal. Her marriage with the prince was a happy one but unfortunately, Afonso died due to a riding accident and Isabella vowed never to marry again. Until six years later, after the death of John II of Portugal, his brother, Manuel I of Portugal, usurped the throne and asked for Isabella's hand in marriage. Her parents offered Maria's hand instead out of respect to Isabella's wishes to never marry again but Manuel refused. Eventually, she married him and became queen consort of Portugal. She later gave birth to her only son, Miguel de Paz, Prince of Portugal, and due to her poor health and constant travelling during the later stages of her pregnancy, she died within an hour of her son's birth.
In her second life, Isabella owns and works in her own music shop located just below her flat. She sometimes fills in for Maria on the drums whenever she's sick and just generally enjoys the simple things in her second life. She's grown to be very passive due in this life and can be quite sarcastic at times which may come off as rude but she means well. However, bad mouth her younger sister she'll go after you.
Isabella Trastámara belongs to @lexartsstuff.
John, Prince of Asturias
Tumblr media
was the only son of Isabella I of Castile and Ferdinand II of Aragon who survived to adulthood. John was born in Seville in 1478 to the sovereigns of Castile, Isabella I and Ferdinand II. John's birth helped consolidate Isabella's position as sovereign as she had given birth to a legitimate male heir. At the time of his birth, he had one elder sister Isabella; his younger sisters were Joanna, Maria, and Catherine. During his early years, Isabella and Ferdinand came to plan a double alliance with Maximilian I, Holy Roman Emperor, for the marriage of his children, Archduke Philip the Handsome and Archduchess Margaret of Austria. On 20 January 1495 in Antwerp, a preliminary alliance, which included a wedding of Prince John with Maximilian's daughter was agreed. Similarly, Maximilian's son Philip and John's sister Joanna were to be married. Joanna left Spain to marry Philip the Handsome in late 1496. Philip's sister, Margaret of Austria, aged 18, married John on April 3 the following year in Burgos Cathedral. It was a good marriage and John was devoted to Margaret. On 4 October 1497, a messenger came to John's parents and informed them that their son lay dangerously ill in Salamanca. He and his wife Margaret had arrived a week earlier, on the way to the wedding of his older sister in Portugal. Ferdinand was with his son as John died in the arms of his former tutor Fray Diego Deza. Two months later, on December 8, the Princess of Asturias gave birth to their only child, a stillborn girl.
When he was reincarnated, he found that he was blind in one eye but that didn’t stop him from having the time of his life. He’s very fun loving, happy, energetic and a bit oblivious at times. He’s married to Margaret of Austria, who he calls Maggie. He works as a costume designer for SIX the musical, mainly so he can see his baby sister more. He now goes by Juan rather than John as a ay to stay in touch with his spanish roots.
Juan Trastámara belongs to @weirdbutdecentart100.
Joanna of Castille, Queen of Castille and Aragon
Tumblr media
The second eldest daughter of Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabella I of Castille. Known historically as 'Joanna the Mad' or 'Juana la Loca' in spanish, she was Queen of Castille and Queen of Aragon. Modern Spain evolved from the union of these two kingdoms. Joanna was married by arrangement to Philip the Handsome, Archduke of Austria of the House of Habsburg. Following the deaths of her brother, John, Prince of Asturia, her elder sister Isabella, and her nephew Miguel, Joanna became the heir presumtive to the crowns of Castile and Aragon. When her mother died, Joanna became Queen of Castile. Her father proclaimed himself Governor and Administrator of Castile. Despite being the ruling Queen of Castile, Joanna had little effect on national policy during her reign as she was declared insane and imprisoned in the Royal Convent of Santa Clars in Tordesillas under the orders of her father, who ruled as regent until his death, when she inherited his kingdom as well. When her son Charles I ruled as king, she was nominally co-monarch but remained imprisoned until her death.
In her second life, Joanna or Juana as she preferred to be called, came back a troubled teen. In her misfortune, she was taken in by a very religious and abusive family. The father, named Fernando, would often lock her up in a dark room whenever she had mental breakdowns which are usually bouts of painful laughter. She finally escaped the house and was homeless for years until she found her youngest sister, Catalina. Catalina helped her by housing her until she got back on her feet and got the help she needed for her mental wellbeing.
Juana 'la loca' Trastámara belongs to @ellielovesdrawing.
Maria of Aragon, Queen of Portugal
Tumblr media
The third eldest daughter of Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabella I of Castille. After the untimely death of her older sister, she married her husband Manuel I of Portugal and replaced her as queen of Portugal. As a queen, she wasn't that involved in politics at all and her focus consists mainly of religious teachings, sewing and child rearing. Although, she is sometimes credited for convincing her husband into acts of 'mercy' whenever he flew into a fit of rage. During her marriage and reign as queen, she gave birth to ten children. Eight of whom reached to adulthood. She was constantly pregnant most of her adult life. Only having a few months in between pregnancies and giving birth to her tenth child caused her untimely demise.
Reincarnated into the modern world, Maria woke as a young woman in her early twenties. She's a laid back woman and loves the experience of a good party or a night at a club. She's not as religious as she was in her past life. Not atheistic per se. She'll go to church if she feels like it and even wears a rosary bracelet as some sort of connection to her religion was raised and taught in. She has a friend with benefits that she has fun with weekly. She is 100% childfree in her second life because ten pregnancies in her past life was way more than enough for her. Despite being childfree, she still adores children so she had applied for uni and took up an education course. Graduating after four years and landing her first teaching job at a private academy where Hal and his siblings and cousins go to. That was where she reunited with Catalina during a PTA meeting and the two sisters have never been happier to meet again in their second lives. They then set up a meeting where she reunites with their older sisters, Isabella and Juana.
Maria Trastámara belongs to yours truly.
Catherine of Aragon, Queen of England
Tumblr media
The youngest daughter of Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabella I of Castille. Catherine was three years old when she was betrothed to Arthur, Prince of Wales, heir apparent to the English throne. They married but Arthur died five months later. She was the first known female ambassador in European history. Catherine subsequently married Arthur's younger brother, Henry VIII. For six months, she served as regent of England while Henry VIII was in France. In 1525, Henry VIII was infatuated with Anne Boleyn and dissatisfied that his marriage to her had produced no surviving sons, leaving their daughter, the future Mary I of England, as heir presumptive at a time when there was no established precedent for a woman on the throne. He sought to have their marriage annulled, setting in motion a chain of events that led to England's schism with the Catholic Church. When Pope Clement VII refused to annul the marriage, Henry defied him by assuming supremacy over religious matters. Their marriage was consequently declared invalid and Henry married Anne on the judgement of clergy in England, without reference to the pope. Catherine refused to accept Henry as supreme head of the Church in England and considered herself the king's rightful wife and queen, attracting much popular sympathy. Despite this, she was acknowledged only as dowager princess of Wales by Henry. After being banished from court by Henry, she lived out the remainder of her life at Kimbolton Castle, and died of cancer.
In her second life, Catherine or Catalina as she prefers to be called to avoid confusion with the other C/Katherines, found herself in a house with her ex husband's five other wives. Tensions were high on the first few months, especially between her and Anne Boleyn but the six soon got things settled and managed to create a family dynamic within their shared home. They created a musical about their stories and garnered quite the success. She mostly acts as the head matriarch of the house. Making sure that everyone was alright and knew not to cause any trouble that might get them hurt. The addition of their children being reincarnated made her even more attentive, caring and loving to her new found family.

i  usually  tend to write for trigger heavy fandoms (such as asoiaf, kingdom and others) and may incorporate some of it into my writing, muses' backgrounds and overall characterization. if you're bothered \ squicked \ triggered by that, i kindly encourage you to reconsider and not follow me. no amount of rp fun is worth your mental health.  i try to tag everything accordingly and i fully expect the same courtesy for our followers' sakes. be aware that there may be mentions of death, gore, violence, consanguinamory \ endogamy (especially when it comes to the lannisters and kekkei genkai clans), rape ( kingdom, though it will only be mentioned on the character’s backstory ) and cannibalism ( hannibal and kingdom ) , as well as unhealthy relationships and dynamics alongside with powerplay, and otherwise bad behaviours.  for all that is sacred, please, do note that i, the mun, do not approve, support or condone any of these actions or behaviours !!  i simply am capable of separating fiction from reality. as long as everything is properly tagged, with mutual consent and there are no minors involved (muse and especially not muns), . i support the right of a consenting adult to explore these awful dark topics in a safe fictional environment with other like minded consenting adults, people shouldn’t have to share their traumas to strangers on the internet to explain why they write what they write, be considerate. if that notion bothers you perhaps you might not want to interact with me, for both of ours sakes. fair warning, most of my graphics and aesthetics might trigger those who have xylophobia/hylophobia (phobia of trees or wooded areas), and considering it is a main theme here i will not be tagging it, i'm sorry. but its too many. however, if you want me to create a special tag for you, there's no issue! it will be either "[your mun name] don't look!" or "[your url] don't look!", whichever you prefer. QUICK EDIT/ADDITION: i do not believe that aging up fictional characters is inherently a bad thing - from what i understand, the whole appeal of aging up a character is that while you like their personality but you do not want them to be kids (for whatever reason) but insteasd adults. if you are one of those who think that aging up a character is automatically something bad (without even knowing why it was done in the first place) don’t bother following me because i do think that opinion is quite silly.
Tumblr media
『 THE INTERACTIONS』
OC, DUPLICATE, MULTIMUSE AND CANON DIVERGENT FRIENDLY
my tagging system is simple, i tag triggers as "tw; x" and . images that may be sensitive or triggering as "cw; x". you can further see how my tags work by taking a look at my tag dump post, just search ‘tag dump’ on my blog and you will find the most recent one i’m using.    i shitpost and talk oocly on the dash constantly but you can easily blacklist my tag if it bothers you.  here's something you should know about me:  when i'm doing drafts i usually don't feel like chatting much, so please do not spam me because i won't be able to reply, i love to talk with my moots but sometimes it overwhelms me.  on that note, please don't pester me for replies ic or ooc, i am slow and chances are that if you try to guilt trip me or just nag me about it i'll leave as the ones i'll get to in the later end on purpose, just out of spite. yes, i be like that.   please be patient - i’ll never pressure you and expect the same in return.  plotting wise: i prefer to just wing it with just a faint idea of where to take the thread but honestly i'm cool with anything. please be considerate when formatting your replies, i have a bad eyesight & if i can't read it, i won't bother with it.   my own formatting is simple and clean.   on a smaller note, please bear with me and my muses as my muses ramble a lot but you don't have to match the length, just give me something to work with. if we write together, the chances of me making edits/tagging you in stuff are really big, just lmk if you don’t like that though !
Tumblr media
『 THE FLEET』
MOSTLY BI/PAN MUSES, MULTISHIP AND MULTIVERSE, SMUT FRIENDLY
i love shipping but i like my ships to be devices to move the plot/dynamics/muses forward, every once in a while though i partake in some much loved self indulgent shipping. just because i ship a certain pairing don't presume that my characters are approaching yours with second intentions, please.   most of the time i like to reblog those relationship memes, so if you’re interested in a ship the best way (other than  sending me a message ofc) to let me know is by sending ones. there will be some triggering ships here ( like the lannisters, both cersei x jaime and joanna x tywin are my otps, and potential inter clan ships, like with the hyugas - i mean how the hell you think they keep the byakugan in their family?? ) that may either be played with trusted friends or be mentioned/reblogged sometimes, all properly tagged so you can easily blocklist/avoid it.  most of my muses are either bi or pan, those who are not will be specified. don't be afraid to reach out to me for shipping right off the bat - i'd rather have you to be open and honest with me about the interactions you want than lying to me, just know that there will be needed some plotting and threading first to see if your muses match. as an adult, my blog is smut friendly, i partake in sexual sunday a lot because some of my muses are very lewd in nature, you can blacklist my tag if that bothers you as well.
Tumblr media
『 THE FINAL NOTES』
GENERAL RP ETIQUETTE APPLIES, CREDITS, THANK YOU FOR READING MY RULES
lastly but not least, general rp etiquette applies on my blog: no godmodding, forced ships, etc. there’s only ONE thing that truly makes me go apeshit crazy, and it’s when people don’t read my rules. i ALWAYS find out and it’s not pretty; i block it like it’s hot, ♪ ♫ ♬ block it like it’s hot ♪ ♫ ♬.   i strongly assure you that i always read your rules before both following you and also before sending memes, just in case. on a much smaller note, i’m not so hot on single shipping and i really feel weirded out about people forcing me to pic who i’m going to interact with due to theirs DNI’s. while i get DNI’s when it comes to actual predators, when it’s something seemingly random chances are that i’ll softblock you because it weirds me out how volatile some can be when it comes to a hobby. i have some trigger heavy hcs ( for example, the one about jiraiya’s hypersexuality being rooted in trauma that he suffered at a young age ) that i share with only a few muns that are closer with me, so i’ll be mentioning them every once in a while but won’t share them, please don’t insist.  i don’t really like most of the main characters of the franchises i write for, and when it comes to certain characters  i reserve the right to decline an rp for my own comfort. for further info on what i use to make my graphics please check my “CREDITS.” tag.  most of my stuff is made by me, i’ve got a lowkey rph in case you wanna check it out it’s @brazucahelps, however if you want a custom content i can see if i get a free time to come up with something :D

IF YOU READ THIS FAR, THANK YOU SO MUCH — JUST ONE LAST THING, COULD YOU PLS LIKE THIS SO I KNOW YOU’VE READ IT? <3 THANKS!

Have a plan to kill everyone you meet- Fallout New Vegas Genocide run notes
Tumblr media
For some reason, and I can’t say why, I’ve had a hankering to play through Fallout: New Vegas again. There’s always a few quests I haven’t beaten, I guess, 100%% achievement completion or not.
However, video essays on moral choices in video games have been part of my feed recently, and like many, apparently, I’m someone who usually tries to pick the goody two-shoes options. But NO MORE! In this hypothetical future playthrough I wanna try and fuck over every single person, and for once end up with Bad Karma at the end.
I’ve seen a few things online about people doing murder only runs of this game, but I don’t think anyone’s tried this particular undertaking. Specifically, I’m not just gunning to gun down everyone I see, I’m going out of my way to kill as many named characters as possible. Using the Fallout Wiki as a hitlist, everyone it is possible to kill will be killed.
The following are my notes about routing such a playthrough. I hope they’re entertaining enough! :p
New Vegas Genocide Mode
The following characters cannot be killed for any reason:
The Forecaster, Melody, Max, Stacey, Lindsay, Pete, and Hector are all children and as such are undamagable- I’m sure a mod exists but I’m not gonna go download that, I don’t wanna end up on a list.
Tumblr media
Festus is a robot whom projectiles pass through and who takes no damage from physical attacks. Besides, his artificial intelligence is limited enough that are you really actually killing anything there?
Vendortron is in an impenetrable booth, and while I’m pretty sure you can glitch into its box, I’m also pretty sure he respawns anyway.
Yes Man can be killed as many times as I like, and I will, but he always respawns so even if you piss off/kill off other factions you still have a path to endgame.
The following characters are mutually exclusive- i.e. you can get one, but not the other.
Ranger Stevens and Cato Hostilius- The missions You’ll Know It When It Happens and Arizona Killer are about being on the opposite sides of an assassination attempt on the President of the NCR. Ranger Stevens only shows up if you’re trying to stop it, and Cato Hostilius is your contact for trying to cause it.
Gabban, Alerio, and Martina Groesbeck- This all comes back to Vulpes Inculta. Vulpes shows up in two events- in Nipton when you first arrive there, and in the Strip when you leave the Tops after confronting Benny. Gabban replaces Vulpes in Nipton if you kill him in the Strip, and Alerio replaces him if you kill him at Nipton. If you don’t kill him at either, he returns to the Fort where you can receive a quest from him involving Martina. To my knowledge, she doesn’t spawn without that quest. I do need to investigate if in theory you can get the quest from Vulpes before killing him and without visiting Nipton, letting you kill both him and Gabban.
The Big Problem: Reputation
Tumblr media
There are four characters whom only show up in their faction’s respective safehouses, requiring a significant dedication to not murdering people to unlock. In addition, access to certain quests with named characters (e.g. I Fought the Law) requires not being hated by the relevant faction. As such, we can’t start wantonly killing people until a certain point.
This gets complicated when it comes to the main 2 factions, being the Legion and the NCR. Fortunately, however, after the first act of the main story, reputation with both gets wiped (by Vulpes/Alerio and Crocker), which we can manipulate pretty well. It makes sense to do the NCR first, as reputation with them is more relevant overall and often costs Legion reputation.
This is the route I’ve figured out for how to work around this issue, including every quest that spawns uniquely named characters for us to murder. DLCs and Companions are currently not included, but shouldn’t be too hard to figure out. Except maybe Joshua Graham.
Start the game as a male character (Legion won’t let you in the pit fights if you’re a woman bc they’re sexist) and take Wild Wasteland (necessary for one event).
AVOID THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS/QUESTS: NIPTON, anywhere with major Powder Ganger concentrations, Ghost Town Gunfight/Run Goodsprings Run, Boulder City Showdown. We’re trying to maintain relationships with the NCR, Powder Gangers, and Great Khans as long as possible.
(At some point get enough Sunset Sarsaparilla Star caps to get Malcom to show up)
Head to Primm, picking up Ed-E and beginning his quest. This quest needs to be continued at minimum until April Martimer spawns in Freeside.
Solve Primm’s deputy problem somehow so Layla spawns later.
Make way to Freeside/New Vegas, however necessary.
Donate medical aid to Julie Farkas, raising Followers of the Apocalypse fame, until access to the Followers Safehouse is granted.
Go to the Atomic Wrangler and get Debt Collector (spawns Caleb McCaffery)
After acquiring the Cannibal perk, proceed down Beyond the Beef by working with Mortimer until Carlyle spawns.
Get and complete Bye Bye Love, spawning Big and Little Beard, making sure to kill everyone involved after Joanna gives the quest How Little We Know (spawns Cachino)
Go to Camp McCarran, and acquire quests Dealing with Contreras (spawns Keller), There Stands the Grass (spawns Keely), and Silus Treatment (lets you into Silus). Suck up to the NCR until access Colonel Hsu lets you into the Ranger Safehouse.
Go to Jacobstown and proceed along Guess who I Saw Today until Norton shows up.
Go to North Vegas Square and get Someone to Watch Over Me, proceeding until Greasy Johnny spawns.
Go to the Great Khan Encampment to get Don’t Make a Beggar of me, spawning Tyrone.
Go to the NCRCF and proceed down I Fought the Law, then betray the Powder Gangers to get Sergeant Lee to spawn.
Go to Hidden Valley and start Still in the Dark, spawning Ranger Dobson and killing him. Complete the quest to gain access to the Brotherhood of Steel Safehouse.
Go confront Benny at the Tops, resetting negative reputation with the Legion and NCR.
Proceed to the Fort and start the Legion questline, making sure to complete Laurifer Gladiator and start The Finger of Suspicion.
Keep going down the Legion Questline, eventually reaching Arizona Killer- make sure to kill Cato after assassinating Kimball and Watson.
If Lucius hasn’t given access to the Legion Safehouse yet, do bullshit for the Legion until he does (e.g. give Aurelius NCR Dogtags)
Once access is granted, it is now safe to start killing everyone! Have fun.
After the blood of your enemies, friends, and strangers covers everything, proceed down the Wild Card route to the endgame, making sure to kill Yes Man after every conversation, so you can get to the Second Battle of Hoover Dam and murder Legate Lanius. Don’t let Yes Man kill Lee Oliver, do it yourself!
As the credits roll, use glitches/godmode to regain control so you can go behind the slideshow and kill Ron the Narrator.
Still during the credits, end it all the only way we know how- blow yourself up, killing the last named character available to kill.
Maybe consider using console commands to spawn in the 2 characters that were mutually exclusive just to kill them. Might as well.

I would like to know everything about your ships with Spock, Uhura and Bones please!!! KJFEWHKJFW if there's lore or fic I wanna read it and if there's art I wanna see it those three are VERY GOOD (I have a lot of love for TOS) @goldenworldsabound
@goldenworldsabound
!!!! I! Thank you for this lovely ask!! I also have a lot of love for TOS, it was the first Trek I watched and it's always going to have a special place in my heart!!
If you really want to know everything, we're going to be here for a while, so this is going under a cut for length. I should never have been enabled like this. None of them have any fics yet and I can't really draw all that well, so there's no art either, but I'm always happy to ramble about them and call it lore, so here we go!
Ok, as I'm writing down the lore for my ship with Spock, it's becoming a lot longer than I thought it would be - as in it's over 1000 words and we *just* got to Starfleet Academy. I'm going to trim it down a bit to try and get a shorter version and I'll probably turn the rest into a fic. Even with the cuts, though, this is really long. You've been warned.
Once I finish my WIPs with Nerys, I have some plans for some TOS fics, so hopefully my lovely friends will get their fair share of fics soon! I can tag you in any TOS fics I write if you'd like, but of course there's no pressure!
Bones:
I selfship with Bones in the way I do to cope with some specific issues, so lore-wise it's a bit different than my other ships. I don't really have an s/i, it's just me here in our world. He's off on the Enterprise doing all those fun space things, but I can call him whenever I like and he always tries to get back to me as soon as possible if he misses the call at the time. He doesn't miss them often, though - he and I set up a system so I can mark calls as high, mid, or low priority and he'll interrupt almost anything to take a high priority call. I hardly ever use it, but it's nice to know I can reach him if I really need to. And he's amazing to talk to! He's really supportive and always willing to listen to me, and he gives the best hugs :)
I'm actually really excited because he's due back on Earth soon, and he promised to come visit! He can't visit often so every time he does he goes out of his way to make our time together special. It's one of the little ways he shows he really cares about me.
This is a fairly new ship for me, so I still haven't figured out what I'm going to do about Joanna. I'm unlikely to add her as a familial f/o, but we might end up as friends or I might just ignore her entirely. It's my canon now :)
Uhura:
So! I am a massive language nerd. I've been teaching myself both Vulcan and Klingon in addition to studying Latin, Japanese, and Spanish in school at various points. (Yes, Swahili is next on my list. Yes, this is because of Uhura.)
Nyota and I met at Starfleet Academy (more details on how I got there in Spock's lore as both ships use the same s/i) during one of our xenolingustics classes. She seemed super cool, but she had a friend group already, so I ended up being too scared to approach her. I haven't always been the best student, so I got into the habit of taking any extra credit opportunities that came my way. Our xenolinguistics teacher offered extra credit if we went to a presentation being hosted by the xenolingustics club, and I figured I had nothing to lose, so I showed up. Nyota saw me there, recognized me from class, and encouraged me to join the club. She seemed nice and I was free, so I said I'd try it out. I came to a few meetings and we ended up becoming friends!
I was never close with her friend group (we didn't have a lot in common and i just didn't fit their vibe) but she worked hard to make sure we still had time to hang out, and I never felt like she liked me any more or any less than the rest of her friends. How she balanced it all, I don't know. I still think she might be superhuman.
She was a year ahead of me and we ended up falling out of contact a little bit when she graduated. Between her (and later my) assignments, there was just never enough time, and as some of you may know (Sorry!!) my ability to stay in touch with people online is atrocious. We didn't stop talking entirely or stop being friends, but it wasn't until we were both assigned to the Enterprise that we were able to reconnect, and we're even better friends now than we were back then. I didn't exactly figure out who I was, but I grew more comfortable with the process of growing as a person and not having all the answers, and as a result I ended up way more confident in myself and with a lot less self loathing. Turns out, that makes you a lot more fun to be around! I still have a lot of work to do in that area, but I'm a lot better than I was back at the academy.
She and I hang out a lot on the Enterprise, sometimes with Spock or Nurse Chapel and sometimes just the two of us. We sing together, play games, talk in half a dozen languages (just because I don't know them yet doesn't mean my s/i can't!) and just do all those normal fun friend things. Sometimes we even teach or help each other learn new languages (I'm learning a new dialect of Klingon and she's learning Latin). One thing I've always really appreciated about her is the way she handles spontaneity with me - when she wants to hang out or change plans on short notice, she always gives me a really good sense of what she's suggesting we do and gives me the chance to raise any concerns or questions about it before we have to make a decision.
Interesting quirk of our friendship: I can usually be flexible about what we do but really need to know in advance who is going to be there, and she can usually be flexible about who's going to be there as long as she has a good sense of what we're going to do. It took us a little while to figure that out and start warning each other appropriately, but once we did things got a lot better!
It's really a crime that the writers didn't give us more Uhura-centric episodes because there are just so many things I want to know about her! This is also a new-ish ship for me, so the lore isn't quite as finalized as I'd like. If you see me changing things about our ship later, that's why!
Spock:
Ok, important warnings time. My selfship with Spock fills a very particular emotional role for me that causes me to be unusually protective of him and our relationship. I'm aware that this isn't exactly emotionally healthy, and that's something I'm actively working on. Part of the benefit of my ship with him is that he can fill this role rather than me putting it on a real person, which, yeah, wouldn't be great. A lot of this has to do with him putting me first.
To be clear, I view my ship with him as happening in one of many similar but distinct universes (there's a TNG ep I'm thinking of here) that's separate from both canon and other people's ships with him. That's why I say that our s/is probably can't be friends (unless we have some universe crossover stuff going on). I would never want to get in the way of another person's ship with him! And this is the division of things that makes it easiest for me to wholeheartedly support others' ships with him, which is something I very much want to be able to do. (What I'm trying to communicate, badly, is that I want to be clear that I don't view the way he thinks about me as being true anywhere outside of my ship with him.)
I do refer to him as my best friend, the platonic other half of my soul, and other similarly intense terms, which he reciprocates. We also have a minor telepathic bond (I have Headcanons about Vulcan telepathy and no one can stop me from using them). Our relationship really is strictly platonic, but if that's going to make you uncomfortable, the time to stop reading is now! I'm also always happy to work out more detailed tags if needed.
Now! On to the actual ship stuff. I've changed around the lore a little bit recently to be a little truer to the way I've been shipping with him for the past 6-7 years, so hopefully this is the final(ish) lore. There are several moments where if canon says otherwise I simply do not see it. I am looking away. My canon now :)
It's late, later than I should have been out, but I'm too young to know better and too excited to care. My cousins are playing in the sand out ahead of me, but I've had enough of the noise and the people for right now, so I'm doing what I do best: wandering off when I shouldn't. The beach is busy but the nearby hills are quiet, so I start to climb. Even at that age, I hate sand, and the stone staircase is a welcome relief.
I was so focused on the climb to see him and by the time I reach the top, I'm too exhausted to do anything but flop on the ground. As soon as I do that my eyes turn skyward and then I'm too focused on the stars to do much of anything else. Even with the lights around, it's a dazzling display. Most call it science, but to my untrained eyes there's a much simpler word: magic.
Between the exhaustion and the stars, it takes me several minutes to realize I'm not alone. A Vulcan boy I don't recognize is sitting on a bench a few feet away from me, staring at something in his lap and staying very still. I watch him for a while and when he still hasn't moved, I walk closer. He twitches - clearly, he knows I'm here - but keeps his eyes fixed firmly on his PADD. If I were older, I would have gone down the hill and this would have been the end of it.
But I wasn't older. I was young, and dumb, and perhaps most dangerously of all, I was curious. I didn't go down the hill. Instead, I walked up, pulled myself up to sit on the far end of the bench, and asked the question that would end up shaping the rest of our lives:
"Have you ever looked up?"
And he did.
I rambled about the stars and asked about his logic homework, and he watched the stars and patiently answered my questions. By the time we parted ways, I was smiling with his contact information tucked safely into a pocket and he watched my go with the corners of his lips pulled up into that classic Vulcan not-quite-smile.
My mom recognized his name and description as the son of Amanda Grayson, a friend of a friend, and she let me use her PADD to keep in touch with Spock until I was old enough for my own. He turned out to be a few years older than me and a lot of fun to be around with a subtle sense of humor that never failed to make me laugh. We'd hang out in person whenever I went to Vulcan or he came to Earth and we talked almost every day online when we were apart. He was (and is) my best friend, and we saw each other through the highs and lows of growing up. Even when his bullies got really bad and when my school social life went down the drain, we always had each other, and somehow that was enough.
Because of something something Vulcan brain development, the eligible age to apply to Starfleet is 20 rather than 16. (ooc this is my headcanon and I need it for our backstory to work, so shh.) I was certain he would apply for Starfleet Academy the moment he was eligible, and I think his decision to wait for a year shocked everyone. I asked him about it, wondering if there was something wrong. We'd talked for ages about how much he wanted to escape Vulcan, so why wasn't he now that he finally had the chance?
His response? "Not all humans treat me as you do. The bullying is unlikely to change, only its source. If I am to be bullied no matter my path, I will choose the one in which we are together."
I have never felt more honored in my life.
We applied for Starfleet together the next year. His father was devastated displeased that he did not choose the Vulcan Science Academy, my parents were upset that I was moving out so young, and we rolled up to Starfleet Academy as the resident pair of family disappointments. Good times.
The academy was a blast, though. We got to see each other! In person! Every day! I was there to stand up to the people who teased him, he was there to encourage me to make good choices, and we both were there to remind each other that sleep is a necessary biological function not to be ignored. We were both studying science, but he focused on the astrophysics side and I focused more on the biology side, so we didn't share too many classes, but we'd hang out all the time in between classes and we tried to take the same electives when we could. Having similar interests helped a lot on that front.
I was a weird child that had by now grown into a weird teenager, so I didn't have a ton of friends at first. Even when it started directly affecting his social life, Spock was never embarrassed to be seen with me, and though he claims that he would be treated the same without me... I doubt it. Still, though, it helped a lot to have him there, and he's never held it against me.
I did convince him to do a show with me once. He tries to hold that one against me but he had fun and we both know it. Besides, it's my job to drag him into illogical things sometimes :)
We graduated together but like so many close friends are, we were posted to different ships. It was a weird time for us. I was doing great, honestly. I was medicated for my chronic illness (finally!), in therapy (finally!), and I loved my ship and fellow officers. My job was interesting and engaging and I was having a blast. Spock, on the other hand, started to struggle a little bit. Though he always treated me like an equal, I think there was a part of his mind that always thought he was a little bit better than me, and seeing me succeed seemingly effortlessly where he was struggling was hard for him. We got through it, though, and he got some better accommodations (and later a transfer to a ship that fit him better) which made everything a lot better. I even ended up taking some engineering classes and wound up getting a degree in engineering too, just for fun.
Before we knew it, he was the first and science officer of the Enterprise and I was a lieutenant commander working for him. (I say working for him, but really it's a lot more like working alongside him. Most people in the science department assume that if you tell something to one of us and don't specifically say not to tell the other, we will, so you can basically report things to either of us.) I do some work for Scotty too, and Kirk likes to joke that I'm an honorary member of the bridge crew at this point. It was a funny joke right up until I started getting invited to briefings, but hey, who am I to complain?
Serving together is a lot of fun. I'm one of the only people on board who doesn't constantly pressure him to show his emotions, with the result that he is a lot more emotional with me. He knows that I don't view his moments of emotion as a reflection of how Vulcan he is or isn't, so he has nothing to gain by hiding them. Mostly, I don't comment on them, which is his preference.
While we're both happy to offer each other emotional support when needed, most of the time we end up just sitting with each other and letting them process it on their own. Between my emotional regulation issues and his I Am A Vulcan mentality, it's been a great way for us to show each other the support we crave without worrying about finding the perfect words.
Speaking of words, I'm one of very few people on the ship who speaks Vulcan. I actually learned it years ago because of him so we've been speaking it to each other for a while, and we take the Vulcan tendency to drop words to a truly ridiculous extent. Uhura tends to joke that we created our own language somewhere along the line, but it's a fun way to annoy Bones when he really gets on our nerves. He can't even complain about it because as it turns out having the ability to converse in a way no one else understands is very, very useful when a mission goes south. You can't really complain about something that's saved your life, now can you?
The telepathic bond (again, very minor and strictly platonic) came about when he had to meld with me on one such mission gone wrong. It wasn't planned, though we'd talked about it in the past and neither of us was upset by it. Bones tried to joke that our minds were so compatible that we were probably going to start dating now and immediately found himself on the receiving end of two death glares. Credit to him, he never made that joke again. We view each other like family anyway, so yeah. No.
But I like the bond we have! It's nice to know when he's uncomfortable but not saying anything and it's easier for me to tell when he's protesting for effect and really does want to go along with my bizarre illogical scheme and when he'd rather not. As someone with no real sense of social cues or sarcasm, it's a lifesaver. Besides, he's been a lot more comfortable with causal touch between us since it formed, which is great for me.
We also play a lot of D&D together. It's something I got him into but which he took to like a fish to water, and the lengths we go to to avoid scheduling conflicts for our weekly game night are probably a bit excessive, shall we say, but it helps that all the friends we'd normally have conflicts with end up getting invited too. He very rarely DMs, but when he does, you better hope someone in your party has a decent intelligence stat because his puzzles are amazing. Seriously, I don't think you've really played a puzzle based game of D&D until you've played one of his. Works of art, I tell you.
I could go on about him for hours, but I'll wrap it up here for time and length's sake. If you have any more specific questions, I think I've already effectively demonstrated that I'm incapable of shutting up about him!

Oh. My. Gosh. Talk about plot twists!
The Rumor by Lesley Kara is this month’s book for my book club, and I was a little skeptical of it at first. I mean, almost the entire first half of the book had me thinking of Larryboy and the Rumor Weed, a Christian video I’d watched a couple of times at my babysitter’s house. (If you’re familiar with VeggieTales, you’re most likely familiar with LarryBoy.)
Then, about three-quarters of the way through, all I could think of was a game I learned to play a couple weeks ago at a game night with my Bible study group. This game is called Secret Hitler. It’s a weird combination of Mafia and I’m honestly not sure what else, but all of us were looking at each other like we didn’t trust each other anymore, at least for the rest of the night. And all I was thinking while reading last night was “Don’t trust anybody!” and remembering the look I gave my pastor when he trusted me but I didn’t trust him during Secret Hitler. 🙃 (It’ll probably be easier if you just google “Secret Hitler Board Game” because I did a really horrible job trying to explain it to my parents, but it’s really a fun game, if you don’t mind not trusting your close friends for a while.)
I don’t want to give the plot twists away, but I was thrown for a couple of loops tonight while finishing this book. People were involved in this rumor in ways I was not expecting them to be, and I’m still having a hard time wrapping my mind around what I just read.
The book itself follows Joanna, a young, single mother who has just moved back to her hometown in the hopes that it will provide a better life for her son, Alfie. While trying to make friends with the other mothers before school one morning, she’s told a rumor about Sally McGowan, a notorious child-killer who is supposedly living in their town. Joanna passes this rumor along to her book club, and it quickly grows out of control, no matter how hard she tries to kill it. She eventually learns the truth, much to her surprise and horror (plot twists that I’m not going to mention), before everything is finally resolved.
I have to give this book credit. It did keep me on my toes and kept me turning the pages, especially tonight with all the plot twists. I really enjoyed this book, and I’m kinda upset that I won’t be at book club this week to discuss it due to Bible study. 🤷🏼‍♀️😭

Just a Simple Lie
Chapter 3
Tumblr media
Pairing: Chris Evans x Reader
Description: Having worked on small independent films for the better part of a decade, your friend tells you about an opening for a script supervisor with a large studio. Wanting to advance your career, you apply and get an interview. The only downside, they prefer to hire crew who are married. It’s just a simple lie, right?
Warnings: Cursing and Drinking
Word Count: About 3,000
A/N: This story is simply for fun. I know nothing about the personal lives of the two actors in this series and mean no harm. I am also totally guessing regarding the studio talk. Comments, reblogs, and likes are always welcome. Tag list is open, please send me an ask.
Internal thoughts are in italics.
Read chapter 2 here
Another week on set had passed as quickly as the last. There weren’t any late night meetings with either leading man, which was fine by you. Sure, you had worked with both actors throughout the week, but mostly on set, or a quick drop by in your office.
Since set life was pretty busy, your social life was suffering quite a bit. You hadn’t seen Joanna since the weekend before you started with the studio and she was pretty pissed.
“I work for fucking Sony, Y/N, and I make time for your ass,” she said flatly in the phone.
“Well, you like my ass. I mean, it’s pretty nice if I do say so myself.”
“You’re lucky you’re funny,” she added.
“Mhm.”
“Anyway…I’m picking you up in an hour.”
“Jooo,” you whined. “Sleeping in my bed sounds better. I just want to be lazy and watch a movie.”
“Too bad. I haven’t seen my best friend in weeks and we need to catch up. Besides, I have news for you.”
“Alright, you’ve piqued my interest. See you soon loser.”
Crawling out of bed and shimming out of your sweats, you dragged yourself into the bathroom to take a shower. Joanna’s idea of getting together usually involved alcohol, so you at least needed to look presentable.
Slipping on a cotton white dress with navy stripes and a pair of short brown boots, you called it good. The dress was comfortable and cute without much effort. You kept your makeup light, not only because you were feeling lazy, even after a long shower, but also because you were short on time. Running a quick hand through your hair a couple of times, your phone was buzzing with text messages.
Jo: I’m here!!!!
You let out a chuckle at her enthusiasm and tossed your phone in your bag.
Joanna parked her SUV on the side of a street that was lined with boutique shops. It definitely wasn’t your normal area to drink or even shop, but who were you to argue? With work being as busy as it was and not to mention being the new girl, you had been pretty distant as of late.
“I just want to pop into this shop really quick, then we’ll grab some tea afterwards,” Joanna said.
Tea?
The two of you enter a cozy shop that you didn’t catch the name of as it was etched in the glass with curly letters. Your tired mind couldn’t decipher quite what it said. Inside is cozy whites, pinks, blues, and yellows. Your mind finally catches up when you see a row of baby strollers.
We’re in a baby store?
Joanna floats around the shop, squeezing stuffed animals, burp clothes, and blankets. Pretty much everything with texture. You follow behind her like a puppy, wondering why she needs to pick up something here. She eventually stops her searching at a table full of onesies. She picks up two, one in each hand. They are both white in color, but one has a giraffe on it while the other has a bunny.
“Okay. What gives?” you ask.
Still holding the onesies in both hands, she looks at you with wide eyes. “What?” she asks playfully.
Her eyes give her away and you can tell she’s messing with you. Raising your eyes brows in return, you cross your arms and pop a hip out.
“I probably shouldn’t say anything because it’s really early, but you’re my best friend and I need to tell someone.” She pauses for a moment and again your tired mind is just not following. “I’m pregnant!” she squeals. She drops the onesies on the table and shakes her hands in the air.
You stare at her contemplating what she just said. Pregnant. The word sounds funny in your mouth.
“Oh my god. You’re pregnant? You’re pregnant!”
She chuckles at your enthusiasm as you start to jump up and down. You pull her into a hug and then pull back slightly, not wanting to hurt her.
“You can’t break me,” she said.
“Shush,” you say, and pull her back in your arms. “Guess I’ll need to find new friends to drink with.”
Joanna smacks you on the butt. “Someone needs to drink with Ian.”
Filming was on schedule which was surprising. Generally, a film of this size would be behind, especially early in the shooting schedule. Granted, this was the largest project you had been a part of. Credit was due to the awesome director. He was amazing at communication with everyone including you. He often asked for your notes between scenes and sought out both Monica’s and your opinions. Both Chris and Keanu were amazing, often getting the scene with one to two takes. There were only seven more shooting days before a week and a half break, then off to the cold of Vancouver.
Your cellphone buzzed with a text, but that was nothing new between Monica, David, and the writing staff calling or texting all the time. Pushing away your laptop, you picked up the phone from your desk and leaned back in your chair.
Unknown number: Chocolate chip or peanut butter
“What?” you mumbled to yourself.
Y/N: Who is this?
Before you can even set your phone down, it buzzes again.
Unknow number: Just answer the question
“Who the fuck is this?” Apparently talking to yourself was your new thing.
Y/N: I need context here mysterious one.
Y/N: Ice cream, cookies, protein bars?
Unknown number: Cookies, obviously. This is serious.
You sighed and decided to play along with the dealer of sweet treats.
Y/N: Chocolate chip of course. But if frosted sugar cookies come into play, that wins.
Your phone rang not a second later with the unknown number.
“Hello?” you said.
“Sugar cookies?! Y/N, come on. No. Just no.”
“Who is this?”
“Chris,” he said.
“Chris...?”
“Seriously?” he questions. “Evans.”
“Oh fuck. Sorry. I’m sorry Chris.”
“You should be. Sugar cookies,” he scoffed. “Come on!”
You let out a giggle. “I like what I like.”
“So, chocolate chip?” he questions.
“Yeah. What are you up to anyway?”
I’m stealing a box from Craft Services,” he says it like it’s something he always does. Like it’s just normal to call you up and ask what you like.
“Okay,” you sigh. “Next question.”
“Shoot.”
“How’d you get my number?”
“I asked Monica. Figured you wouldn’t mind.”
This was something you had to get used to apparently. Chris Evans has your number and you now have his too. Not that you would call him.
You hummed in response.
“See you soon,” he said before disconnecting the call.
Chris is coming to your office. No big deal, he’s been here before, on your first day and one other time. This is fine. You can be normal.
You straightened up your small office. There wasn’t much to clean. Mr. Fern was thriving, although you’d have to find a babysitter for him when you were in Canada. You had no pictures or artwork on your walls, but you did have a framed photo of your friend group sitting on your desk, along with a jar of pens in various colors and styles. There were three sizes of notepads, one in a beautiful rose tone with thick aged looking paper. The other two were lined like the type you would use in school. You were a minimalist at work, what could you say?
Twenty minutes later there’s a knock at your door.
“It’s open,” you shout, just loud enough for the person to hear.
You knew Chris would be coming by, so you had time to mentally prepare, but he still makes you a little nervous. The man is attractive and he’s so personable. You’re nervous with Keanu too, but he’s so much more serious. When the two of you do chat, which isn’t a lot, it’s about national issues, who’s your favorite poet, have you tried this or that brand of green label coffee? Okay, that last one is pretty low key, but still.
“I bring peace and good tidings, but most importantly cookies.” Huge grin on his face.
In his hand, wrapped in a napkin, are three chocolate chip cookies. His hand is outstretched for you to take the cookies, but you don’t. Eyes looking from his hand to his face and back again.
“This isn’t a box of cookies. I expected a box of cookies.” You shake your head for added effect. “And not even a frosted sugar cookie insight.”
“Sugar cookie,” he says with such disgust. “Y/N. I brought you chocolate. You should be thanking me!”
The smart ass in you, despite the newness with him, can’t help but come out.
“You can leave them there,” you say pointing to a free space on your desk. Eyes fixed on your laptop, not bothering him a glance.
He huffs out a laugh and plops himself down on the extra stationary chair next to your desk. He sets the cookies down, but picks one back up and takes a large bite out of it.
You swivel in your chair to face him and roll your eyes. “Aren’t those mine?”
“You complained.” He shrugs his shoulders taking a second bite.
Rolling your eyes, you turn back to your laptop.
“This is new,” he said.
Sparing him a glance, he’s picked up your framed five by seven group shot. It’s from last New Year’s Eve. Jemma had just moved into a new apartment, free of her roommate from hell as she liked to call her. You all brought booze and she invited a few guys she knew and some ladies from her work. It was a good time and you ended up crashing in her bathroom. It wasn’t the best night’s sleep you’ve had.
“Yeah, those are my best friends.” A smile appears on your face.
He smiles and nods his head, eyes scanning over the faces. “Who’s who?” He angles the photo so that you both can see.
“Well, this here, with her lips attached to my cheek, is my very best friend Joanna.” You let out a giggle and he grins. “Next to her is her husband Ian. The gorgeous blonde is Jemma. And that’s Travis.” You rush through the last one, remembering you told Chris your fiancé’s name was Travis. Maybe he forgot. Hopefully.
“Travis? As in your fiancé Travis?”
“Mhm.” Tight smile on your face.
Moving the picture closer to his face, he hums. “Good looking guy.”
“Yeah, he is,” you reply.
“Looks kind of young though.”
Really? He is, but why bring that up?
“Are you calling me old?” you scoff, fake agitation in your voice.
“What?! Of course not. You make a lovely couple. Really,” he pleads. A sincere smile on his face.
You quirk your mouth to the side and sputter out a laugh. “I’m just fucking with you.”
Quickly covering your mouth with your hand. Can you say fuck to him? It’s so unprofessional.
“Me and my mouth. Sorry,” you say, cringing slightly.
He erupts in a deep belly laugh, head thrown back, eyes closed.
“Oh, my fucking god. You can say fuck all you want around me,” he says through bouts of laughter.
You let out a breath and relax.
“That was hilarious,” he sighs, wiping tears from his eyes.
“Yeah. Real funny,” you reply. “But yes, Travis is a little bit younger than me.”
He holds up his hands defensively. “I promise I’m not calling you a cougar; he just seems young.”
Truthfully, Travis did seem younger than he was. He was the serious film student, but on weekends, he was the eternal frat boy. Even now, seven years later he’s pushing thirty, but you wouldn’t know it.
The next few days brought other unrequested sweet treats to your office. Chris no longer asked what you would like, instead he’d show up with something he thought you’d like, or rather what he liked. One day it was a cheese danish, then caramel corn, and finally a monster bar, which turned out to be a Rice Krispies Treat with extra marshmallows and M&Ms. You started to skip lunch knowing you’d be eating something very unhealthy. The two of you would keep the conversation light, generally about music or movies. You wondered if he was this friendly with other members of the crew.
Washing your hair six times had done nothing. Jemma had promised the new color product she picked up was just temporary, but clearly that had not been true. You had been Jemma’s guinea pig since the day you met her on set of one of the first movies you had worked on. She was a hair stylist and anytime she received a new product, she was trying it out on you. This time it was a semi-permanent purple hair dye. She had assured you it was more semi than permanent, but after washing it too many times, it had only slightly faded. Your only saving grace is the dye was only on the underside of your hair rather than your whole head as Jemma had wanted to do.
Walking into work was a little nerve wracking for you. In the industry, there is a plethora of personalities and styles, so purple hair isn’t out of the ordinary, but it was quite the change for you. You wore your hair the same way every day. You dressed modestly and comfortably. Sneakers were the norm. You saved skinny jeans and cute dresses for your days off. Stepping out in purple hair was saying something.
A few wolf whistles from David and a couple of guys who worked in set design, you made it to your office relatively unscathed.
Today’s scene would have you working side by side with Monica. Most days you were both on set, but usually not for long. The two of you had met in her office most of the day yesterday going over today’s big love scene between Chris’ character William and Maggie’s character Sophia. Chris was a professional and the few scenes that you had watched Maggie in were great. The two of you had no doubt they finish strong, no pun intended. Except you were wrong.
“Cut!” Hugh, the director called.
It was the fourth take and everyone was starting to realize it just wasn’t working. There were no problems with the lines and the actors were both following the stage directions, but something just wasn’t right. The chemistry was just off.
“Y/N.” Hugh called, motioning you over to him. “You know this script better than anyone. What’s missing?”
You let out a long sigh. “It’s the two of them together. Don’t get me wrong, they work well together, but I’m not getting romantic tones from the two of them right now.”
Chris was watching you. His brow furrowed; arms crossed. Maggie was getting her hair touched up. Passionate hair took a lot of work.
“Will you go talk to him please?” he asked.
You nodded, clutching your script, you walked to him. Maggie was now occupied with makeup and Monica was currently speaking to her.
Chris uncrossed his arms and quirked one side of his mouth up. “It’s not working is it?”
“M’fraid not,” you replied.
He nudged his head to the left and took a few steps away from the rest of the crew. “What do you suggest?”
“Well, frankly, you just don’t look like you love her. You barely look like you like her.”
He shrugged his shoulders and gestured with his hand for you to continue.
You licked your lips and moved in closer to him. Lifting up your script, you tapped on a section of the scene. “When it says William looks into Sophia’s eyes passionately, you need to look at her like she’s the one you’ve been waiting for your whole life. Like if you didn’t have her right now, in this moment, you wouldn’t be able to breathe. And when it says he grabs her, don’t grab her by her shoulders.” You looked up from the page to see Chris watching you. “What?” you questioned.
He shook his head and smiled. “Don’t grab her by her shoulders?”
You could feel heat in your cheeks. You looked back down at the script because you had to look away. Him and those fucking eyes. Are these lashes even real?
“Yeah, that comes off more as angry passion, but that’s not what their love story is about. How about you try it with one hand cupping her cheek and one hand on the back of her head? But like, um. But maybe cup her cheek first and brush your thumb against it as well. And with your other hand, slowly slide it to her neck before the kiss.”
He nods his head again, his eyes downcast, thinking it over. “Like this?” he asks.
Suddenly, his hand is on your cheek and he’s staring in your eyes, thumb lightly brushing below your eye. His other hand softly touches the crook of your neck and he ever so softly brushes it to the back of your neck as he starts to lean in. Goosebumps erupt down your arms and you thank the gods you’re wearing a sweatshirt at this very moment so he can’t see it.
“Is this good?” The deep timbers of his voice making you swoon.
You nod slowly, not wanting him to remove his hands at that moment. “Um,” you lick your lips again. “Uh, ye-yeah. That’s exactly what I mean.”
He removes his hand and gives you a gentle closed lipped smile. “I think I got it.” He starts to turn around but then stops and turns back to you again. He tucks a strand of hair behind your ear. “This is cute by the way.”
You give him a smirk and shake your head. “Go!” Crossing your arm, he salutes you with one hand.
Maybe you wouldn’t kill Jemma after all.

Only You 2/2
Pairing: leonard mccoy x reader
Word Count: 2861
Warning: Angst, but fluff at the end, couple swear words
Summary: You fend off an attack from the Romulans after reaching the ship. Two weeks later you found the time to cry to Nyota and Chris, then Jim later on. Jim being Jim, went to speak with Bones to see what was really going on. He later convinces Leonard to talk with you over some bourbon. With what’s left of his bravery, Leonard seeks you out at the bar, admits that he was wrong, and that he would very much like to have a chance with you. You accepted his apology with a kiss.
A/n: So hooray, I wrote this up in quite a short time. It’s looked over, but any typos you see are of my own. This is the end of the 2 parter, might make it a three if I get any interest. However to those that celebrate, Happy Valentine’s Day. To those that don’t, have a wonderful weekend and remember chocolates are on sale the day after Valentine’s. Lyrics are the second half of the first verse of The Fields of Gold by Sting.

Part 1 is here
It had been about two weeks since that gala, and two weeks since you last spoke, or even seen leonard around the ship. Unusual not having him around, but you and Leonard avoided each other as much as possible. You only went down for lunch, while he only went to the mess hall for dinner, ensuring that you and him never saw each other, unless it was required to do so.
For both you, the doctor, and pretty much everyone on board, the last two weeks were crazy. Halfway through the first week, the ship was intercepted by Romulans, forcing you to put on a constant yellow alert.
As the tension rose between the Romulan captain and yourself, all talks came crashing down when the Romulans attacked first. Oh no, you didn’t have the time to think over your heartbreak. The crew didn’t need Y/N the lover at the moment, they needed Captain Y/N. Switching immediately to red alert, you pushed away your emotions and your tears, for the safety of the crew.
That was how the rest of the weeks were like. It was only near the end of the two weeks when the Romulans left in a fury, when you finally relaxed the red alert and the klaxons finally stopped blaring for once.
Thankfully, there wasn't much damage to the ship itself. A couple of scratches and dents here and there, but nothing you couldn’t fix at the next Federation outpost. You’d briefed Command immediately, going over detailed events that’d transpired like a dutiful Captain would.
It was only then that you had the chance to relax again, and figure out how to salvage what’s left of your friendship with Leonard. You spent a night with Nyota and Christine, crying your eyes out and telling the entire story from top to finish. Both sympathized with you, while the latter promising to make the doctor’s life a lot harder for breaking your heart.
While you appreciated the efforts, you told her not to, stating that you were still interested in keeping a friendship with Leonard.
“It’s going to take time, Y/N,” Nyota mentioned, finishing her glass of alcohol.
“We’ve been avoiding each other as much as possible,” You mumbled into your empty glass.
“We know,” Your two best friends replied in unison.
“And of course the Romulans didn’t quite help it either.”
The two promised that they would be with you, no matter what. You thanked them profusely for their support. However, even Jim had tried needling the story out of you the day after you and Leonard returned back from the gala.
You shook him off a few times, saying that everything was okay and you and Leonard needed some time away from the other. Jim has called bullshit, and said that something must have happened in order for his two best friends to not even look at each other.
It took a few days after the Romulans’ attacks, a lot of convincing and bribery, and five glasses of tequila for you to spill the beans again.
“At the end, he told me that he enjoyed spending the last couple hours of in his arms. For a moment, he could indulge in his dream of having me, of I think possibly dating me, and just enjoying the time with me,” You hiccuped, knowing that you were way beyond buzzed at this point.
“He told you all of this and then apologized and then left?” Jim sat in the booth across from you, deciding that you had enough alcohol for the night.
“There’s not much I could have said. He told me that he was too old for him, that he has Joanna, and that nobody would want, and I quote, a bitter soul like me,” You continued as though you didn’t hear a single word that Jim said. “It’s all excuses, I know that.”
“But it still hurts,” Jim finished your sentence for you, pushing the glass of water into your hands.
You nodded, shakily gulping your water down. “I don’t know what to do, Jim. It’s going to be weird to be friends again with him. I’ve crossed that line of friendship, and I’m not sure if we’ll be able to be friends again.”
“Do you want to?” Jim held your watery gaze.
“Want to what?” You frowned, observing how his baby blue eyes softened throughout the night.
“Want Bones to just be your friend or would you rather have something more?” he emphasized.
“I-Jim-I well, he already said no,” You shook your head. “If I had it my way, yes, I want to date him. I don’t care that he’s seven years my senior, that he has a daughter who’s already turning thirteen this year, that he’s divorced, or that he’s even a damn talented doctor. Everything makes him who he is today.”
You cleared your throat. “And I might sound selfish but he’s the person that never fails to make me happy when I’m around him.”
Jim nodded sagely a few times. “I understand. It’ll all turn out the way it should.”
You thanked him for his support during the hard times, appreciating that he still had a shoulder to cry on and an ear to listen to. However, Jim had other plans. There was no way in hell would he let his two closest friends split. If there anything Jim could do, was to get to the bottom of things, and figure out a plan.
Listening to your story, all he had to do was to speak with Bones.
“Bones! There you are,” Jim strode into the CMO’s office without a knock.
“What do you want, Jim? I’m a little busy at the moment,” Leonard scowled up at his best friend.
“I brought some of the good stuff with me. Want to share?” Jim continued, as though the doctor’s unamusement didn’t do anything to affect his mood. He held up a bottle of bourbon.
“Since you’re already here,” Leonard pulled away from his desk, and opened his lowest level drawer for some glasses.
Popping the bottle open, Jim generously poured each cup with a healthy slug of the cool amber liquid.
“The Romulans sure weren’t happy with us,” Jim snorted after a moment of enjoying the alcohol.
“They did send a number of injured crew down,” The doctor spoke.
“It was to be expected,” The blonde continued, pouring himself another glass when he was done.
“Jim,” The doctor hesitated. “I’m turned in my resignation letter to the Captain. I think I’m done here.”
His best friend choked on his alcohol, completely taken back by the words. “You want to do what?” He sputtered out, feeling the burn go down the wrong pipe.
“After what happened with Y/N two weeks ago, I just can’t do this anymore, Jim,” Leonard continued, sparing a glance at the other.
“And what exactly happened? Y/N was all excited having you go down to the Gala together like an actual date,” Kirk asked.
“Nothing. We had fun. We danced together.” He paused, weighing his words. “I got to have her in my arms just for those short couple hours. Then she confessed saying that she liked me, and I just couldn’t.”
“Bones.”
“Jim, I know what you’re going to say, so don’t even start,” Leonard poured himself another generous amount.
“Bones, you don’t even know what I was going to say,” Jim frowned. “But what’s stopping you? You clearly like the girl back, and hell, I’ve seen the two of you together. She comes into the room, and you brighten up. You can’t deny those feelings, Bones.”
“Yes I can!” The doctor abruptly stood up, surprising the blonde once more. “You know this, Jim. My divorce with Joce is the reason why I’m out here in the middle of nowhere with you. I can’t do this whole dating thing again, not after what Jocelyn has done. I’m nothing but a bitter broken soul, Jim. I can’t let that happen again.”
“Do you truly believe that will happen with Y/N?” Jim pressed.
There was silence from the other end of the room.
“You know as well as I do that Y/N is a forever kind of person,” The blonde continued. “Not the one night kind.”
“Jim, I-.”
“Bones, what’s really stopping you from dating Y/N? All the reasons you’ve given me up to this point are just bullshit excuses. You know better.”
The doctor stopped his pacing, and plopped back down on his couch, placing his head in his hands.
“You know what I’m afraid of,” The brunette finally spoke up after a long period of silence.
“I don’t,” Jim answered, earning himself a glare.
“I’m afraid of messing it all up, of disappointing myself and Y/N just because of the prospect of a better what if, of not getting it right, of forgetting dates, of breaking promises, of it ending up in divorce again like what Joce did,” Leonard spoke, a voice barely above a whisper. “I wouldn’t know what to do if it all happens again. It’s just all going to be lovey dovey again. When the bad time starts, I work, Y/N works, and we don’t spend time together. We fight, and then end up breaking up.”
All reasonable and just statements, Jim agreed. Yet, he never knew his best friend to be a quitter, not after all he’d endured.
“So you’re just going to live with your decision now, understanding full well that you’ll end up regretting not trying, not giving you and Y/N a chance that you deserve. Y/N could be the one that you’d never thought you wanted,” The blonde said. “Bones, are you really going to let an opportunity like that just pass by?”
The doctor said nothing, so Jim continued. “I see how you look at her when others check Y/N out. I know what you’re going through when someone else tries to get a date with Y/N. I know that you’re in love, Bones, but love is always risky. You are vulnerable to them, and they are vulnerable to you, because it’s based on trust.”
“The question is are you giving up on yourself when there is a second chance of love just staring right in front of you?”
Leonard groaned, placing his empty glass aside. “What am I supposed to do, Jim? I’ve messed it all up. Y/N must hate me now.”
“Y/N doesn’t hate you. There’s not an ounce of hate there,” Jim smiled inwardly, congratulating himself. “Go, Y/N is probably still down at the bar at this hour, been a regular nowadays.”
Another pause before the doctor stood up. “Alright, I’ll go have a talk.” He stopped at the door. “And don't touch anything.”
“You can thank me by naming your firstborn after me!” Jim called out before the doors shut.
Job well done.
Quickly downing the last of his glass, he placed both glasses in the sink, and swiftly followed after his best friend.
Leonard hurried down to the bar, desperately hoping that you were still there. It was approaching midnight, and he wasn’t sure if you were still awake. Scanning the bar, he noticed Nyota and Chris huddled together.
He strode over, and within minutes, he’d gained the attention of both ladies, who raised their eyebrows at him. You sat opposite from them, your back to Leonard, so you didn’t immediately notice his presence.
“Y/N, Nyota, Chris,” He greeted quietly.
You turned around, a little surprised to see the good doctor there.
Oh, Leonard,” You responded, as the other two merely nodded to his greeting. Leonard had noticed the slight tremble of your lower lip.
“Y/N, I was wondering if we could have a talk,” He looked around. “Maybe at a more private place.”
You glanced back at the two others in response. Nyota gave you a shrug, while Chris shook her head no. Well. You didn’t have much else to lose, so you agreed.
“Um, how about the officer’s lounge? No one’s there at this hour,” You suggested, getting to your feet. Chris merely looked at you as though you’d gone crazy, but you shrugged in return.
“I’ll pick the tab up tonight, Y/N,” Nyota called.
“Thanks!”
You tossed and turned over what Leonard could possibly want to speak with you about. Did he want to be friends? Did he not want to be friends? Did he want to resign? No, he would’ve told you that in front of Nyota and Chris, so it couldn’t be that. Thankfully the lounge wasn’t far.
“A drink, Leonard?” You offered when you and Leonard arrived.
“No thank you. I’ve had my share of liquid courage already,” He answered.
“Oookay,” You turned back to filling up two glasses of water for you and him. “So what do you want to talk about?”
Leonard turning down alcohol hardly ever happened. Whatever it was that he needed to speak his mind, must be important for him.
“Y/N, I”ve realized that I made a fool out of myself, that I didn’t know what I was seeing right in my face,” He started, watching you still at the topic on hand. “I know that I’ve made a mess of things between us, but understand that it wasn’t my intention to do so.”
He paused, but seeing you had nothing to say, he plowed on.
“When I held you in my arms that night, it was my greatest joy to call you mine even if it was for just a few hours. I know you wanted more, and I did too. But I was scared, afraid that I would let you down and disappoint you, me, us. That night in front of your quarters, I wanted to kiss you right then and there, But I let my past cloud my judgement and I ran. I ran because that’s what I did after Jocelyn took everything I had dear to me, to be up here in this unforgiving void. I thought that this was it, that there was nothing left for me but space and Jim. You, however, changed my mind. You brighten up my day each time I see you, make things better than I’d ever imagined. And I know I made a mistake, that I broke your heart running off like that. I swear to you, each and every day, that I’ll find a way to make it up to you.”
You stared at him, your glass of water forgotten on the countertop.
“A-are you sure you don’t want a drink?” You stuttered out, unsure of what to say.
“Darlin’, I got my water, but no thank you.”
You strode closer to him, as you tried to gather your thoughts. There was still hurt in your eyes, something that Leonard could obviously tell, but you flickered your gaze hopefully up at him. “You promise?”
“I promise,” He echoed, eyes flickering down from your eyes to your lips.
You were quicker than he was, as you pulled him down for your first, desperate kiss with him. His lips happily crashed against yours, obliging you with the kiss that you and him both needed. Jim leaned against the entrance of the lounge, grinning at the sight of his two best friends together once more. Without a sound, he left you and Leonard be. As the night came to an end, you and Leonard parted ways to your respective quarters with the promise of more.
Laying in bed, you stared up at the ceiling with a giddy grin across your face. It’d been a hard three weeks apart, but it was necessary. With that, you started your usual morning routine. Reaching the Bridge, you promised Nyota to clue her in at all that’d transpired before sitting down in your chair. Your PADD had been beeping at you throughout the night, but you’d thought nothing of it till now. Intrigued, you opened the screen up, only to find a resignation letter flashing at you.
“I’ll be back in ten,” You hurried down to the medbay in a panic.
“Leonard, a word?’ You huffed out, striding into his office without a warning.
“Good morning sweetheart, what brings you in so early?” Leonard looked up from his PADD, worry etched in his face.
“My PADD has been beeping all night and up till now, I didn’t check what it was,” You trailed off, hoping he’d understand what you were implying.
It took the doctor a minute to understand. “I, yes. I might have sent that letter in on an impulse last night before I got a chance to speak with you,” He looked slightly embarrassed.
“Sooo safe to say that I can delete it? I haven’t forwarded it to Command yet,” You peered up at him when he rounded the corner.
“Of course,” He framed the side of your head with his fingers, and kissed you.
“You are all I need.”
“So she took her love for to gaze awhile upon the fields of barley In his arms she fell as her hair came down among the fields of gold.”

Growing Pains: Facets of Film
When a production team makes a movie, there are things that they have to assemble in order to get it up to film standards.  Costumes, sets, props and special effects all come with the territory of making a motion picture, and they aren’t done cheaply or quickly.  As a natural result, movies tend to be bigger and more creative looking than their counterparts productions: television on much smaller screens.
While there are exceptions to the smaller budget equalling a much worse production design (typically in shows like Star Trek: The Next Generation or Babylon 5), for the most part, there simply isn’t the ability or freedom for the shows to look as good.  Therefore, television shows are forced to rely on the old standbys: writing and performances.
That means that for today’s ‘Facets of Film’, we’re going to be doing things a little differently.  Rather than focusing on the blockbuster trimmings, we’re going to be taking a look at a smaller scale.  Join us for an examination of the ‘Facets of Film’ at use on Growing Pains.
Let’s take a look.
Tumblr media
Growing Pains is a family sitcom, made and set in the 1980s.  It’s a traditional series, with no costumes besides normal clothing, no chase or fight scenes, not much in props, no special effects, and only a handful of sets necessary.  The actors and guest stars are good, but nothing huge, and there’s some decent camerawork, but again, nothing all that great.  It’s a very standard show.  To be honest, there’s not much to talk about in the vein of the typical ‘facets of film’, or storytelling shorthand, that we usually look at here.
In that case, what do we look at?
Thankfully, there are a few options left.
Facets of film are tricks used by the filmmakers to explain to the audience in shorthand what would be difficult to explain using dialogue.  Whether a show is elaborately done or not, a production team still has to use their materials to tell the story as efficiently as possible.  We’re going to be checking out the results of their efforts, starting with the opening theme.
Tumblr media
A television show’s opening theme is extremely important for a number of reasons, as we’ve discussed earlier.  The theme is the preview, introducing and summing up what a show is about, and demonstrating the tone.  This is done in an audible and visual way.
The theme for Murder, She Wrote is small, homey, and charming, demonstrating the personality of the main character, Jessica Fletcher, as well as the mysteries she solves.  The theme for The Twilight Zone is eerie, accompanied by outlandish visuals to introduce to the audience the weirdness they are about to witness.  Both of these shows utilize their openings very well by immediately communicating to the audience everything you need to know about the individual show.
So, what’s the theme for Growing Pains?
The opening to each Growing Pains episode is the song: “As Long as We’ve Got Each Other”, played over pictures of the main characters throughout their lives. Every episode, you watch them grow up, right before the final shot: one of the entire family at that current stage in the show.  While it may seem generic, this actually does its job very well.
Tumblr media
The opening credits succeeds in telling the audience what they are about to see: a family.  There is an immediate sense of the warm, homey stories they are about to see, and a basic setup of the characters.  Looking at the clips, the viewers can tell that Mike is a bit of a goofball, Carol’s smart, and Ben’s energetic.  They can also tell that, despite the usual family disagreements, this is a family that does love each other.  Immediately, there’s a sense of comfort and fun, and the viewer gets a good idea of what they are getting themselves into.
There are other elements utilized on the show that demonstrate some of the personality traits of the characters, such as costuming (Carol’s sweaters, anyone?) or what is depicted in their rooms, etc.  But that can be a little difficult.  The Seavers didn’t really have a specific ‘look’ that set them apart, even as individual family members.  They dressed as reasonably stylish, upper middle-class people from the 1980s.  Not much else to say on that front.
It’d really seem like we’d be at a loss for discussion were it not for the most important element in bringing any characters to life: The performances.
Every actor brought wit, humor, and warmth to each character, ensuring that each person felt life-like to the audience.  Not only that, there’s real chemistry between characters, making them feel gelled together as a family.  The vivacity that Tracey Gold injected into Carol, or the intelligence that Joanna Kerns brought to Maggie, even Alan Thicke’s understanding portrayal of Jason is very real, giving these characters different enough personalities to be memorable.
Tumblr media
As you may have noticed, a lot of the storytelling devices when it comes to television do tend to revolve around the characters, rather than the stories itself.  As I’ve said before, characters are the draw, the reason we come back to television, and in Growing Pains, the characters are essential.  Luckily, each one works very well due to the writing and acting necessary for each one.  The ‘facets of film’ necessary to each show are extremely effective in introducing new viewers to the cast, and using every opportunity to keep it consistent.
When you get right down to it, despite the lack of special effects or large budget that we typically talk about here, the production team did know what they were doing, and used what elements they did have in order to portray what matters the most in any show: the main cast.
And it worked.
While perhaps not as iconic or memorable as some of their contemporaries, the Seavers are unique.  Every one of them is relatable, normal, and yet special enough that the audience sees themselves in parts of each character.  As such, they worked very well as a family that viewers wanted to see every week.
Tumblr media
With that perspective, perhaps it’s easy to see why Growing Pains was so beloved during its runtime.  With a charming premise, enjoyable characters, and consistently fun writing to go back to every week, it’s little wonder it was one of the most popular shows of its kind.  In hindsight, it’s not a surprise that it’s remembered with as much fondness as it is.
Join us next time where we’re going to talk about the behind-the-scenes for Growing Pains and talk about it’s production!  Thank you so much for reading.  If you had a thought, question, suggestion or recommendation, or just want to say hi, don’t forget to leave an ask in the ask box!  I hope to see you in the next article.

Trial and Error: Part Two
Pairing: Dean Winchester x Female!Reader
Word Count: ~2k
Warnings: canon angst and violence

Tumblr media
It wasn't a fun driver since you needed to stop to pee for practically every hour, but you eventually made it early the next day. Joanna is still sleeping when you arrive, but she woke up when Dean lifted her from her car seat. She whines at being woken up, but she lays her head on his shoulder and goes right back to sleep.
This property is very beautiful and very large. It's a farm, so it must be around four hundred acres if it's in the average range. Even the house looks like a mansion, and from the front parking area, you can see a stable with beautiful horses and other farm animals. If you weren't here on a job, you would have loved to live in a place like this.
"Alright, keep an eye out. Anybody with a Hellhound on their ass is gonna be showing the usual signs like hallucinating and freaking out."
"What if we find someone?" you ask.
"You get them away, and I kill Fido," Dean grins, showing the demon-killing knife. You three walk up the long driveway to the house, but you see a big tractor off to the side with a person underneath it trying to fix it. "Hey, pal, who runs this joint?"
A young, pretty Hispanic woman with long braided hair slides out from underneath the tractor. It's clear Dean didn't expect someone like her to be working on a tractor, but you appreciate the hard work she is clearly putting in.
"You're looking at her," she says with a bit of an accent.
"You own the ranch?" you ask.
"No, I manage the property. You three here about the job?"
You didn't know what kind of story Sam and Dean were going to come up with to convince the owner that you need to be here, so this is the perfect opportunity to stay on the property and keep a close eye on the occupants.
"How'd you guess?" Dean chuckles, going with the flow.
"We get our share of drifters. Though, not usually pregnant ones. Have you three ever worked a farm before?"
"Definitely," Dean says, but the woman raises one of her eyebrows in suspicion.
"We're quick learners," Sam says.
"Ellie, who do we have here?" a man says as he approaches the group.
So the woman's name is Ellie, but who is this man? He must be one of the owners of the property.
"I'm Dean. This is Sam, Y/N, and Joanna."
"Carl Granville. A pleasure."
"You're not a Cassity?"
"No, my wife is. Her and her family own the place. I'm just one of those, what you call them," he pats his somewhat pudgy belly, "trophy husbands." He expected you all to laugh, but when he doesn't get the response he wants, he moves on. "Are we hiring them?"
"Not sure yet."
"Come on, these folks seem sweet."
"Well, he's right. We're swell," Dean smiles sweetly.
Ellie doesn't see a problem in hiring you three, but she looks at Joanna and she has a look of uncertainty.
"We have a nanny here for when the Cassity's nieces and nephews visit if you would like your daughter to stay with her?"
"I really appreciate the offer, but I'd like it if she were to stay with me," you say before Dean has a chance to say anything.
"Of course. Follow me."
Ellie escorts you to a small building next to the barn where bedrooms are, and you're assuming that you're staying in here for the time being.
"You sleep down in here. Breakfast is at 5:00 am, dinner is at 8:00 pm, and in between, you're mine. Questions?"
"I miss my room," Dean whimpers.
"We're good. Thank you."
"Okay, the job is yours if you want it. I warn you, it's crap work."
What Ellie failed to tell you is that Sam and Dean will actually be working with shit. Since you're pregnant, she gives you the task to brush the horses while Sam and Dean get to shovel horse manure into wheelbarrows to be disposed of. You like this job because there is something about being with horses that are calming.
Joanna sits on the back of the horse, grinning and petting the animal while you brush the hair. The horse seems calm and doesn't mind the small child on its back, and you're content with doing what you're doing.
"Shit. She literally meant shit." Dean dumps his shovel of manure into the wheelbarrow and walks over to the horse that you're grooming. "I hate you."
"Hey, don't hate the animal," you stick your tongue out at him.
"I don't care. Do I look like a hippie?"
You look to the front of the barn and see Ellie talking with a woman who you can only assume is one of the Cassity's on the property. You're not sure who she is, but you can tell that she and Ellie don't get along well.
"Organic food is better for the cattle," Ellie tries, but the woman isn't having it.
"My land, my animals, my money, my way. End of story."
The woman leaves, and Ellie looks over to see all three of you watching her.
"She's a real piece of work, huh?" Dean says.
"Alice Cassity's a piece of something, alright? What are we gonna do? She's the boss."
"So, what are you thinking?" Sam asks once Ellie walks away.
"What, dealwise? Well, Ellie's the help, so that rules her out."
"Why does that rule her out?" you ask.
"She only works here, so if she made a deal, then it wouldn't benefit her. It would benefit the owners. It looks like to me she doesn't like the owners all that much. Carl doesn't seem like he'd sell his soul, so it must be Alice."
"Bold of you to assume that. Can't ever judge a book by its cover. I don't look like a witch, do I?"
"This is different."
"Not really," you shake your head.
"Should we talk to her?" Sam asks, getting back on track.
"Why? So she can lie to us and then call the cops? No. No, we're gonna have to go stalker on this one, Sammy."
"Okay, you two have fun with that. I am going to take Joanna and we're going to both take a nap. Mama's tired."
You and Joanna separate from Sam and Dean as you turn in for the night. They spend all night tailing Alice, but nothing seems to be wrong. Nothing is wrong because Alice wasn't the one who made the deal.
Carl did.
As soon as they came back, they figured out that he died with his insides ripped apart. The Winchesters really shouldn't have assumed who made the deal, but there is one question hanging in the air. If Carl made the deal and is now dead because of it, then is there a need for you to be here?
"God almighty," the sheriff says once he arrives at the scene.
Everyone has gathered around the body to see what is going on, but only you and the brothers know the truth. Joanna is sleeping inside the room, and you have the baby monitor with you so that if she wakes up, then you'll be able to check on her.
"I'm sorry, Ellie. Carl seemed like a good guy," Dean sighs.
"He was the best."
"You say his head was practically ripped off?" Sam asks the sheriff.
"And you are?"
"Just curious."
Sam and Dean don't have their fake FBI badges to get them into stuff this time, so it's a bit weird to see them being denied access to information.
"They're new. They all work here," Ellie backs you up.
"Carl died badly, let's leave it at that. They've been reintroducing wolves around these parts, but I never thought they could do something like this."
"This wasn't a wolf. I got to make some phone calls. The whole family's flying in for this," Ellie sighs and walks off.
"All the Cassitys under one roof. Good luck," the sheriff scoffs and leaves your side.
"I told you not to rule out Carl, and now, here we are."
"Oh, don't start," Dean rolls his eyes. "I think Carl signed the deal, and now he's dog food. The Hellhound's gone, and we were too busy chasing a pile of Jack to stop it. Let's grab our stuff and get out of here."
You three head to the bedrooms to gather your things, but you pass by the barn where you see Alice grooming one of her horses. She seems oddly calm, which is a bit concerning to you. You leave Sam and Dean to pack your things for you while you make a quick detour and head over to Alice.
"Are you okay, Mrs. Cassity?"
"Fine."
"Are you sure?"
"I really am. I know I shouldn't be because I loved Carl... I think. I just can't remember why."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean Carl grew up around here. We went to school together, and he was always mooning over me. I never--I used to make fun of him."
"When did you two get together?"
If you're right about your suspicions, then Carl didn't sell his soul for the oil that made his family rich. It was for Alice because he was in love with her and wanted to be with her.
"Valentine's Day in 2003. I was at this party. Carl was there, and it was like I was seeing him for the first time. Suddenly, he was cute, smart and funny. It was magic. Carl and I were happy for ten years. Now he's dead, and I'm not sad or angry. I'm just... fine."
"Well, I'm sorry for your loss. Excuse me."
You turn and see Amara standing at the entrance to the barn, and you get a splitting headache. This headache is different because it's affecting your vision as black spots appear in the corner of your eyes. This causes you to sway slightly, almost resulting in you falling face first on the ground. You look back to see if Alice noticed you almost falling, but she isn't paying attention to you.
You quickly leave the barn, passing by Amara to do so, and head to the bedrooms where Sam and Dean are working quietly so as not to wake up Joanna.
"Hey, do we have any graveyard dirt? Yarrow?"
"No, Dean. You're not summoning a crossroads demon."
"Plan A bombed, so welcome to plan B. We get some red-eyed bitch in a trap, then we hold a knife on her until she calls us in a pooch—special delivery," he smiles bitterly.
"Okay, when Crowley finds out we're planning to snag a dog, he won't send one Hellhound. He'll send a hundred. That's not a plan, Dean. That's suicide," you scoff.
"You got a better idea?"
"We stay here. I just talked to Alice in the barn. Carl didn't sell his soul for oil. He sold it for her. He loved her, and she barely noticed him, so he made a deal. Now that time's up, it's like she barely even knew the guy."
"You think our demon signed up more than one schmuck while he was in town?"
"It wouldn't be the first time. Look, Dean, this family's rich because someone booked a one-way ticket downstairs. As of tomorrow, they're all gonna be right here."
"It's smart if we stay and watch over them until we're absolutely sure that none of them made a deal. Plus, it would be nice to kill a Hellhound and not die, you know?"
"You two get two days, then we do it my way."
Things would have to be picked back up the next day as it's very late. When you wake up, your headache is back, but it's a lot worse than before. Not in a way where you can't do anything but lay down, but in a way that it's a constant pain that won't seem to go away.
Still, you have to get up and do your job to protect your family. Ellie requests your presence in the front of the property where the rest of the Cassity's are arriving. An SUV pulls up just as you join her side with the brothers. An older man with gray hair exits wearing cowboy boots, nice trousers, a jacket, a bolo shoestring tie, and a cowboy hat. Alice approaches him and gives him a hug.
"Meet Noah Cassity. He's seventy-one, worth a billion, and just married wife number five, a twenty-year-old lingerie model," Ellie explains just as the model exits the truck. "Alice is his oldest, and that's Cindy, the middle girl." Cindy gets out of the SUv wearing a minidress and a short white fur jacket. "She had a single on the country chart a few years ago. Then she started hitting the bottle, and her last album was a bunch of holiday songs for dogs. My favorites were 'Jingle Bark Rock' and 'Don't Pee on this Tree: Happy Arbor Day'."
"So, she's the devil," Dean comments.
"Pretty much."
Another woman gets out of the SUV wearing a sweater and tan pants. Out of everyone, she is dressed more conservative.
"There's the baby--Margot. She ran away just before Alice and Carl tied the knot, and lives in Paris."
"How do you know all this?" you ask.
"I've been working on this farm since I was thirteen, and I've got eyes. Okay, tonight is an all-hands-on-deck situation. I'm gonna need two of you inside, serving dinner and pouring drinks--a lot of drinks."
"Okay. Well, have fun," Dean grins and pats Sam on the back. "I won't wait up."
"Somebody's gonna man the grill."
"What kind of grill?" Dean asks after a moment of silence.
Ellie and Dean leave yours and Sam's side to check out the grill, which you can only assume that you and Sam will be pouring the drinks. Nothing is going to happen until tonight, so when tonight finally arrives, you put Joanna down to sleep and spell the room so that nothing can get inside and harm her.
The baby monitor is hooked to your hip so that if she cries or makes noise, you'll be able to hear it. Sam is already inside getting the drinks ready, so you head over to Dean who is by the grill. He is wearing an apron as he grills steaks, and you can't help but get heart eyes at the sight of him.
"Impressed?"
"I do like a man who can handle his meat," you smirk. "You look just as delicious as the steak you're cooking."
"You already have me. You don't need to keep flirting with me," Dean blushes.
"I always want to flirt with you. You're my husband."
"Where is Joanna?"
"Sleeping inside our room." You see the concern on Dean's face, so you're quick to diffuse the situation. "Don't worry, I spelled the room. No one is getting in, not even a Hellhound. She is safe."
"Good."
You lean in and kiss him before heading into the house where Sam is in the kitchen with Ellie.

The Royal House of Trastámara
Tumblr media
So since the Trastámara sisters are complete with the addition of Maria, I figured I'd make another one of these. So here are the daughters of the Royal House of Trastámara.
She sometimes fills in for Maria on the drums whenever she's sic and just generally enjoys the simple things in her second life. She's grown to be very passive due in this life and can be quite sarcastic at times which may come off as rude but she means well. However, bad mouth her younger sister she'll go after you.

The addition of their children being reincarnated made her even more attentive, caring and loving to her new found family.

i'm obsessed with klimt!jester and byzantine!molly, my gosh. what wonderful ideas you had for all of them! how long did it take you to settle on each inspiration, and what other ideas did you almost go with?
This is a fun question.  Here’s how it went (behind the cut because this got so very long)-
Caleb happened first, and without any intention of doing a whole set. I wanted to try to do Van Gogh’s coloring thing, and Caleb seemed like a really good target.  It was deeply fun.
Beau- Hey, I like this Caleb piece!  What if I do art stuff for all of the M9? I wanna try those long inky LIchtenstein lines!  And what could go wrong?  Surely this won’t extend to two months of extensive research and work!
Molly- As soon as I decided to draw Beau, I knew I wanted Molly to be some highly iconographic thing with glorioles and gold leaf and things.  I have a longstanding fascination with Catholic and Orthodox iconography and gosh do I love messing with gold leaf.  Early concepts included some Fra Angelico action (he does this thing where you texture the gold leaf to create patterns in the frame, which i find absolutely stunning.  This is also a Big Look in 17th Century Spanish polychrome sculpture, which I obviously couldn’t pastiche directly, but wanted to reference, if the opportunity came up)-
Tumblr media
I also considered going a bit Russian.  Russian iconography has probably the most opportunities for adding layers of symbolism (it just occurred to me that I probably would have needed to find someone who understood cyrillic to make it work)-
Tumblr media
In the end, I was paging through a book of decorative motifs and was reminded of the Byzantine mosaics in Ravenna, which are probably the most iconic of the form outside of the Hagia Sophia. I decided that I’d probably have lots of other opportunities to paint, and I wanted to try my hand at a realistic tile look.
Caduceus- I thought of Mucha straight away, but I really didn’t want to do it, because I had already seen it done several times, and I thought those other artists had done really well, and that the concept was a closed book.  The other big concept was Picasso’s Old Guitarist-
Tumblr media
It’s got the lankiness and the stylization and I love the pose, but in the end I just really thought that Caduceus was more Art Nouveau than expressionist.  Also my brother was really voting against any pose that included a profile, because I had never drawn Cad in anything other than profile.  So that cinched it.
Jester- I never considered anything else but Klimt. I tried hard to think of something else, because my last two brain cells have just enough self awareness to know that Klimt is way, way above me in terms of pattern and texture and motif, and I was pretty sure it was gonna be too difficult for me.  It was, by the way.  I stopped long before I wanted to and didn’t include a lot of what I had dreamed of adding.
Matt- Following my fascination with iconography, I still wanted to do the heavily painted, loaded with symbolism and rich color portrait that Molly wasn’t.  I looked at artists like Ghirlandaio, Castagno, and Jan van Eyck (I never considered Da Vinci, his sensitivity is way outside my orbit), but in the end I kept coming back to Holbein, who really raises the bar on color choice and symbolism. I love that all his portraits seem to be set in plain or dark spaces, but are somehow glowing and mysterious. I didn’t have the guts to put in a deep, perspective-y background, but omg I wish-
Tumblr media
I mean I’m not a fucking wizard.  But holy shit look at that.  The notes and crap hanging off the wall all look like clues.  Like Sherlock Holmes would be able to write the whole life story of this guy.  It’s almost trompe l’oeil.
Yasha- First concept for Yasha was a Minoan fresco from Knossos-
Tumblr media
If I was designing Yasha’s tribe, I think I’d go for a melange of Mongolian and Minoan, throwing in some Tibetan textile patterns.  I just think this looks so much like her, and also some other Minoan frescoes include insane levels of ritualized badassery, like Bull Leaping and young girls offering saffron to incarnate goddesses.  I just love it. In the end, I was worried that the relative clean-ness and simplicity of the lines in the Minoan style would make it look like I was giving Yasha short shrift.  This feels a little ridiculous to me now, but I had just come off three in a row that took more than ten hours. My next thought was the Book of Hours of Joanna of Castile.  The thought here was that some of the pages actually look like Yasha’s book of pressed flowers-
Tumblr media
This felt like a totally winning direction to me.  As I researched illuminated books more, though, my concept started to broaden and get more stylized, and I just went with it.  I think it turned out okay.
Fjord- Fjord is handsome and iconic, so the ideas flowed easily for him.  The first and most obvious was a Fabio-era (read- 80s to early 90s) romance novel cover-
Tumblr media
I didn’t go with it because the Tusk Love thing meant that a lot of other artists had tried it already, and many of them had done a damn fine job, and I didn’t think that I had anything to add. The next concept was David’s Napoleon-
Tumblr media
Very solid concept, but two issues- 1. Most portraits of Napoleon are pretty standard, in the mold of, say, Holbein, which I had already done.  2. The horse portrait is awesome, but I think Fjord had only been on horses circumstantially.  I couldn’t picture him on a horse. He’s not iconically horsey, he’s iconically sailor-y.  I can’t confirm whether or not he had a moorbounde when I painted this, but I know I hadn’t seen any of those episodes, yet.  So. All of this dithering kept going until the DAY I STARTED PAINTING.  And suddenly pulp cover fell out. I love pulp art.  This is the second fandom I’ve done pulp art covers for.
Nott- Full credit to @essayofthoughts, who came up with the playing card thing right at the get go.  I wasn’t sold, though, and floated two other concepts. First was a Mughal Miniature-
Tumblr media
The thing about these is that they are very often like little comics.  On one side of the painting, you can have the main character at a lake, picking daisies or being drowned or whatever, and then on the other side that same character can be picking pockets in a crowded bar.  There’s loads of opportunity for detail and symbols and fun stuff like that.  On the other hand- I’m not a goddam genius.  I could not have taken in the style and substance of Mughal storytelling and then just spit it out in a few short weeks and done it any justice. Nope, that concept was just too difficult and too far above me.My other concept was Millais’ Ophelia-
Tumblr media
This one might have been amazing, but the second half of the 19th century was getting very crowded indeed, with Caleb, Caduceus, and Jester all having concepts from that era.  That and I wanted something more graphic artsy than painty to round out the series.  Beau was starting to feel like an outlier and I wanted to loop her in closer to the bunch, if you know what I mean.
Okay that was a lot, but I apparently had a lot to share.  I hope you found the unused concepts interesting, at least.  What would you have done, were you me? I would love to hear outtakes from alternative universes.

“The BMF in MSG on pseudo PPV” UFC 244 Preview
Joey
October 28th, 2019
The UFC's first two showcases in MSG were based entirely around putting on insane title fights that flexed the UFC's superior depth as an organization. Conor/Alvarez in a battle of champions with two title fights and a host of big names (Edgar, Stephens, Romero, Tate, Weidman) underneath it followed up by GSP/Bisping with Dillashaw/Garbrandt and Rose Najamunas/Joanna underneath it. 2018 signified a change as big fight after big fight fell through and the UFC was left just aiming to put on a crazy deep card with high levels of violent potential on it. It succeeded on that but the card felt a step behind the other shows. This one feels more like a return to old with hints of the more modern formula sprinkled in. There's no Conor and no Khabib, there's no big title fight, there's no real fight of divisional significance either. What there is a big main event pitting two big stars against one another with a fake belt on the line (but aren't they all really if we're being honest) with an undercard that doesn't showcase the UFC's depth and isn't loaded with big superstars but has a litany of really fun action fights on tap. Nate Diaz vs Jorge Masvidal for the BMF title feels like the UFC doing the rare thing; giving the fans what they want while also giving themselves what they need. Under that you have just a rush of really freaking good action fights that maybe won't matter in a year from now but combine to create a very appealing way to spend a Saturday night, Let's talk about it.
Fights: 12

Fighters On Losing Streaks in the UFC:  4 (Stephen Thompson, Derrick Lewis, Kevin Lee, Darren Till)
Fighters On Winning Streaks in the UFC: 14 (Jorge Masvidal, Jair Rozenstruik, Vicente Luque, Corey Anderson, Johnny Walker, Blagoy Ivanov, Johnny Walker, Jennifer Maia, Chance Rencountre, Hakeem Dawodu,Edmen Shahbazyan, Shane Burgos, Mawkan Amirkhani, Gregor Gillespie)
Main Card Record Since Jan 1st 2017 (in the UFC): 31-17
Nate Diaz- 1-0 Jorge Masvidal- 3-2 Darren Till- 4-2 Kelvin Gastelum- 2-2-1 Stephen Thompson- 1-3 Vicente Luque- 6-1 Derrick Lewis- 4-3 Blagoy Ivanov- 2-1 Kevin Lee- 3-3 Gregor Gillespie- 5-0

Women’s Strawweight- (28) Bantamweight- (53) Flyweight-  (15) Women’s Featherweight- (8) Women’s Bantamweight-  (18)
2019 Number Tracker
Debuting Fighters (38-59-1)-
Short Notice Fighters (29-36)- Brad Tavares
Second Fight (56-35)-
Cage Corrosion (Fighters who have not fought within a year of the date of the fight) (22-38-1)-
Undefeated Fighters (40-37-2)- Gregor Gillespie, Edmen Shahbazyan
Fighters with at least four fights in the UFC with 0 wins over competition still in the organization (12-9)-
Weight Class Jumpers (Fighters competing outside of the weight class of their last fight even if they’re returning BACK to their “normal weight class”) (29-23)- Darren Till, Kevin Lee
Twelve Precious Ponderings
1- Anyone else we still had buyrates to pour over for this one? Imagine being able to comp this to the Conor/Nate fights or Conor/Khabib or the bigger Jones fights to see where these two really rank in terms of buyrates.
2- So what's the end result when this is over? Are we going to pretend the BMF thing is real? Are we going to retire it? Is this like when the WBC has some new title made for Floyd's next big fight then he just keeps it in his attic in his 50 room mansion? I'm just perplexed what the long term plan is for this title that allegedly costs thousands to make.
3- One of the more interesting things about this fight is that Masvidal;s pretty much changed how he fights going up in weight. I don't know if it was just more confidence in himself without nixing off 15 lbs or if he made a concession that he needed to change to adapt to his weight class but he went from not having a stoppage via strikes at LW for six years to stopping 5 of his 6 WW wins. Nate Diaz is notoriously durable but he's also been hurt in the past at 170 lbs and I think Masvidal's pop is legitimate up at WW. Conversely we've seen Masvidal dropped by guys like Till and Larkin only to rise up and get right back to doing what he does. I'm curious if Masvidal will come out fighting Nate like he has every other welterweight or if this turns into a cautiously fun fight where nobody really gets a serious edge and it's a respect filled slodge down the stretch.
4- How does Conor wiggle himself into the main event conversation before all's said and done.
5- What could Darren Till and his camp possibly see in Kelvin Gastelum that this is the fight they wanted for his debut?
6- Derrick Lewis is undefeated against big Eastern European dudes. Just want to keep that in the conversation.
7- Speaking of weird matchups that don't make any sense on paper, Kevin Lee opted to drop back down to 155 lbs and his first fight is Gregor Gillespie. This after we just saw two straight fights where Lee struggled to get off the fence against grapplers with more strength and a better understanding of control than he does. Now to his credit, Lee beat Michael Chiesa who is similar but I'd argue Chiesa is more of a big slug muk type LW whereas Gillespie is a fluid mover with quick enough pop in his hands to survive fights at range if need be. I don't know if Lee made the right call here unless he's  got a secret escape route vs Gillespie. It is fair to point out that Gregor Gillespie has never faced a guy with Kevin Lee's overall skillset but if this turns into a battle of wills and cardio, I gotta bet on Gillespie.
8- They're not the sexiest of names on a card like this but both of these featherweight fights are great fun. Hakeem Dawodu vs Julio Arce is a great striking contest where you have two hittable featherweights sort of trying to scrap their way out of the bottom half of the ranks going at it. Arce has the better resume but Dawodu has crazy upside and promise. Arce tends to fight his opponent's fight so chances are this is going to be a pretty fun back and forth all kickboxing affair. Makwan Amirkhani vs Shane Burgos should be a hilarious striker vs grappler fight as Burgos is one of the best featherweights at controlling range and pace while Amirkhani probably beats every featherweight who he can get to the ground (minus Arnold Allen who JUST edged out a decision). Amirkhani's hands haven't taken the next step the way a lot of folks expected but beyond that, he's a lot of fun. Burgos is one of the many dudes who adopted Conor McGregor's stalk and strike style and I'd imagine it's going to be pretty tense in the latter rounds to see Burgos chasing with this being a takedown vs knockdown style chess match. Good fights on the prelims.
9- Andrei Arlovski vs Jair Rozenstruik is going to be a happenin'. There's a good chance Rozenstruik is going to be racing Ciryl Gane for most impressive UFC newcomer down the stretch.
10- Corey Anderson is the guy the UFC doesn't ever want to give a title shot to because nobody would possibly care about Anderson vs Jones. Johnny Walker is in a small circle of fun LHWs who the UFC believes will be big pieces of their puzzle once Shogun, Glover and company clear out the middle of the division. This is a very strange yet kinda appealing risky fight from the UFC.
11- Brad Tavares grinded and scrapped his way up the UFC rankings to get one main event slot and now he's back on the prelims testing prospects. Life is tough in UFC land. They also clearly think he's cooked because they're handing him over to the Ronda promoted prospect who has two first round finishes in three UFC fights.
12-  Is the winner of Jennifer Maia vs Kaitlyn Chookagian the #1 contender?

A list of characters that should have showed up in the last 2 Descendants movies.
All for fun of course. Let’s begin. For their parents, All of them are reprising their roles from Once Upon a Time, but without even remembering their adventures in the show.
Descendants 2
Tumblr media
Asher Angel as Joseff, son of Anna and Kristoff, nephew of Elsa
Tumblr media
Elizabeth Lail as Princess Anna, mother of Joseff
Tumblr media
Scott Michael Foster as Kristoff, father of Joseff
Tumblr media
Georgina Haig as Queen Elsa, aunt of Joseff
Descendants 3 (the aforementioned characters I mentioned from 2 return in 3)
Tumblr media
Olivia Rodrigo as Melody, daughter of Ariel and Eric (Appears at the end of “You and Me” on Descendants 2 before fully debuting on Descendants 3)
Tumblr media
JoAnna Garcia-Swisher as Princess Ariel, mother of Melody
(Since I don’t know who played Eric in Once Upon a Time I’ll just assume said actor reprises his role in Descendants 3.)
In the 2nd movie, Joseff has the B-plot of having a grudge with his aunt Elsa due to most of Auradon believing she saved Arendelle, not Anna (Anna’s act of true loved stopped the eternal winter there, before it becoming part of Auradon), and getting in trouble at Auradon prep whenever the students mention this false fact, which sends him angry and getting a fight with them. After King Ben still refusing to believe that Anna saved Arendelle after showing Ben the evidences, he ends up joining Uma and her crew out of revenge to all of Auradon. (It was later revealed he and Uma knew each other as kids when he ran away at one time to the Isle of The Lost, for the same reason.) He would later become a big brother figure to Dizzy Tremaine after seeing her bullied by Harry Hook. Throughout his time with the Lost, he and Uma end up falling in love with each other, in a somehow attempt to be like Ben, but in the other way.
In the final battle, he lost to Mal’s dragon form after Uma breaks up with him during the battle and abandons him, and ends up sinking to his death, but Mal saved him. However, once he regained consciousness in the same boat, out of anger, He immediately tackles Mal and tries to kill her by punching hard on her right chest (believing if he did this, her heart will stop beating and will die immediately) because “Everything was taken away” from him (His relationship with Uma, Dizzy’s chances to go to Auradon and he truth never believed by those in Auradon about Anna), but fails after 12 attempted punches and ends up sobbing because he lost it all. However, Mal and Ben promise to help Joseff find a way to start all over and bring the truth to all, which helps him turn to good once more, get Dizzy to Auradon and finally having all of Auradon recognize that Anna saved Arendelle. He also ends up meeting Melody and being her date in the Cotillion.
It was found out after a string of events that finally gave Anna her hero status known to all of Auradon, a commoner suitor of Elsa did this false story after rejecting him, ending with the said offender that cause Joseff’s anger for years being locked up for his deceit, but not without Joseff punching him first out of anger. Also, Dizzy ends up living with Anna, Kristoff, and Joseff as the daughter they never had, allowing her to live in Auradon. In fact the family personally picked Dizzy up themselves once she got her invitation and Anna thanks Joseff for giving the family a daughter they can make a part of their family.
For the 3rd movie, He joins the VKs to stop Audrey, but this time Melody ends up joining with him. Along the way Melody has feelings for Joseff but she never got a chance to tell him throughout the story due to the events happening too fast, making her shelve them until the problem is over, but she was the catalyst for Joseff and Uma to make up and be friends again, meaning she had no grudge with Uma despite their mothers being sworn enemies, but also out of worry for Joseff. She even ships Uma with Harry. in turn, Joseff thanks Uma for bringing him and Melody together and closer than ever, leading to a mashup cover of “Do You Want to Build a Snowman”, “In Summer” and the reprise of “Part of Your World” sang by Joseff and Melody to Uma, allowing the two of them to finally tell each other how they feel about each other. In the final battle with Audrey, Joseff and Melody end up riding on Dragon!Mal, to help her defeat Audrey. An “Act of True Love” from Melody helped them win the fight as it helped Joseff’s Ice Amulet to turn Pink and allowed its power to augment Uma and Mal’s power to beat her. After Hades left the place after healing Audrey, Joseff and Melody thanks Mal for everything, and Mal hugged the two.
Once the barrier has been disabled, Melody and Joseff ended up getting their True Love’s Kiss for the first time, with both of them thanking Mal and Uma for this to happen, and they are now Boyfriend and Girlfriend. Melody even gets to have Squeaky and Squirmy as her adopted younger brothers and Joseff gets to have another younger sister through Celia whom he bonded throughout the movie as well. (To be clear, Dizzy, Celia, Squeaky and Squirmy live with them (not fully adopted) but gets the sons and daughters treatment from their live-in parents (Anna and Kristoff towards Dizzy and Celia and Ariel and Eric towards Squeaky and Squirmy)) During the end credits, Anna and Ariel comment on the events of both movies and Anna says, “If it wasn’t for Mal, maybe Auradon would still be worst off.”
As for the 5 Disney Heroes I mentioned? Anna, Elsa and Kristoff do play a role, with Anna and Elsa being on Mal’s side and asking her to save Joseff in the 2nd movie. They even help Joseff meet Melody at the end. The trio joins Ariel and Eric as a side plot to find a way to beat Audrey, and even getting to meet up with the VKs and AKs at one point after all the VKs and AKs of the story have gathered up. The reason they survived being asleep or turned to stone was Elsa did an ice barrier that allowed them to teleport out of Ben’s office (When the ice shattered, they were gone). They were even there at the last scene when the barrier was removed, as well as the aforementioned end credits scene.
(EDIT: Did some tweaking after finding some spelling and grammar errors.)
