Be honest, who’s messy? The instigators, the starters, and the ones who mind their business?

Instigators

Naruto is obviously ready and willing to start a fight (emotionally, physically, what have you) with his whole being. He can totally make a speech while he’s doing it, but he’s also going to instigate the conversation that leads to a grand friendship speech. 

Deidara wants to throw hands and talk shit at all times, always. He hones in on any insecurities and picks on them in order to get the ball rolling. 

Ok, you may disagree, but at one point in life Rock Lee was fully trying to start shit for no reason (re: chunin exams, challenging Sasuke before the first portion). When he knows he’s got it, he’s got it. 

Tsunade’s hands continue to be rated ‘E’ for everyone. 

Sakura emulates her shishou and is messy in every way, shape, and form. 

Kiba is ready to rumble. He is raised by glorious, competent lesbians and needs to make sure he isn’t falling short of their reputation, you know. 

Hidan finds joy in picking fights with passersby, especially if they seem to be the type to appease Jashin (aka, absolutely miserable). 

Obito has one brain cell, and that brain cell is dedicated to making a great fool of himself. Of course he’s starting some shit, then getting beaten up about it. 

Hear me out: Hashirama is an instigator, for he is screaming his plans for beauteous peace across the battlefield at Madara at any given time, just desperately hoping he picks up on what he’s putting down. 

Madara finds everyone ugly, untalented, and in need of a beating. Hashirama is neither ugly nor untalented, but he clearly needs a firm lesson in what can and cannot be expressed.

Not starting, but finishing

Tbh, Tobirama would be a brutal combatant and not hesitate to put an aggressor in the ground. Also, he listens to gossip when it finds him. It’s super useful to know what’s happening! 

Orochimaru is not in the habit of instigating altercations, but his teammate is Tsunade. He knows how to deal with a fight. He also deals, like, a lot of psychic damage. 

Shino can get into it, if need be. His bugs tend to sap people of their chakra pretty quickly, especially if they are not expecting it, so thats his go-to. He...does not know what he would do in emotional warfare, so he hopes to not deal with it. 

Kakashi has no desire to initiate a confrontation unless it is teasing and/or he can leave at a moment’s notice. He can beat anyone’s ass and probably talk circles around most people, but he doesn’t particularly want to. He has a reputation to uphold. 

Sasuke barely fits into this category. He waits until someone else starts with him first, but he’s already prepared. He probably goaded them into lunging at him, tbh. This was fully premeditated on his part. 

MYOB

Hinata would observe fights breaking out in front of her and either abscond or start preparing some first aid materials. A brief cry might be in order, should Neji deliver another soliloquy on how she is inept. 

Might Guy may have a myriad of challenges for Kakashi, but he’s not messy! He’s wholesome and sweet and wants everyone to have a wondrous time. 

Zetsu is comically underwhelmed by everything, I fear.

No but I originally stuck them together as part of a fic idea, where Midoriya, Uraraka, and Todoroki are all villains (and in relationships with their respective canon rival), and all three of them are being fucking HOUNDED by older heroes ho just want them to stop being evil for like five seconds so they can see that they're just kids and 1) changing the world shouldn't be their job, 2) (contradictorily) they could do so much good in the world if they just learned how to go about things. YES this is vaguely/highly condescending depending on the hero, but these tired strung-out heroes are pinning all their tattered hopes and faith in humanity on this one kid (possibly kidS again depending). Aizawa is running after Izuku, Hawks is gunning for Shoto, and Nagant is trying to pin down Uraraka. Sexual tension and jealousy and angst and drama abound.

ANYWAY back to the matter at hand: that's when I realized that I really like it in general?? Like Ochako is kind of the reverse of Kaina in a way—she went in to the hero business with a more cynical outlook (she needed the paycheck, her family was struggling, heroism was a job to her, not a dream) and eventually grew into her optimism and hope for the future whereas Kaina was lured in by promises of a brighter future only to be submerged in the gritty politics of hero work. Ochako goes into it thinking she'll be a government dog but comes out the other side with new conviction for a hopeful future, while Kaina goes in bright-eyed and bushy-tailed and stumbles out the other side dull-eyed and covered in blood.

I really like the idea of Nagant meeting Ochako either post-war, or even in an AU where she never defected, and trying to give her the doom-and-gloom talk, "This isn't the shit they preach on TV kid" and Ochako just coming back at her like "Yeah I already knew that thanks I got over it" aND IT JUST. STUNS HER. GOBSMACKED. OFFENDED. I imagine them having a full on argument about it at a bar or something and then Nagant's fucking hooked. Ochako is the bright spot she's been looking for, something she can cling to (and also butt up against because they definitely have a lot of differing opinions).

Uraraka on the other hand, is captivated more by Kaina's vibes. I mean come on, are you telling me if this tall lady in sleek dark clothes with pretty hair, gun holsters on her thighs, and a war-torn look on her face glanced you across the bar and gave you her full attention that you wouldn't immediately be enratured? Seduced, even? I sure as hell would.

(Though I am a Nagant simp maybe I don't count lmao—)

Plus,,,,I imagine that Ochako emulates Izuku in that her desire to save people overcomes their desire to be saved. She sees that Kaina is wounded and full of guilt and anger and she pulls the classic "I CAN FIX HER" before leaping headfirst into trying to do so. Nagant probably isn't sure whether she wants to be helped or not—but it's no biggie. Ochako will help her decide :) *the Midoriya-Izuku-friendship-threat theme starts playing but with ominous background Kirby music* You Have No Choice Ochako Is Helping You 💗

On a more risque note, I also like the image of them meeting at a hero event, having a one night stand, and Nagant being unable to get Ochako out of her head. Or even a before-UA thing where Nagant is on a rescue mission and she finds Ochako just like,,,,holding up an entire building with her Quirk and becoming both concerned and intrigued. Because one, Lady Nagant knows what the HPSC does to (seemingly) powerful people—what they offer them—and it doesn't sit right with her to think of Ochako going down her path (there's little chance of that but this is where Kaina's mind goes), and two, this kid just held up a whole ass building for an hour so everyone could escape the collapse even as she shook and sweated and cried and strained, and again. Nagant is cynical. Pessimistic. So seeing Ochako be so selfless for zero net gain, on instinct no less, would definitely catch her eye. Maybe even enough to offer an apprenticeship ;3

lots and lots of practice honestly! <- yeah you get told this a lot dont ya LMAO but it geniunely is !!! just draw every single day, even if its just ateeny doodle or a smiley face :) , itll help somewhat!

a huge part of it is studying other's art. the art world is so so shitty to newer artists, "NO TAKING INSPIRATION I WILL MURDER YOU!!! 😡😡😡😡😡😡 ILL POST 10 BULLETINS ATTACKING YOU BECAUSE YOU USED THE SAME COLOUR AS ME >:(((" <- looking at a very few specific artists here ...

but in reality learning from other artists is INCREDIBLY helpful!

some of my favourite art has come from an artist named tillie walden, and i studied her art for ages and tried to emulate what she does with colours,, i ended up straying towards a more bright/rainbow path but her artstyle has absolutely influenced mine!

as well as TONS of people on toyhouse/twitter, like sometimes ill see a piece and be like "oh i love how that artist shades hair! ill have to try it out sometime ^__^"

or people on tiktok, posting speedpaints, "thats a really interesting way to sketch, and i like the end result, maybe i should try something like that!"

its just taking teeny tidbits from artwork you like and adding it to your own art! also a lot of watching youtube videos on colour theory

As a hijabi I feel protective of what I wear? If that makes sense. I don't like anyone touching my headscarf. The only problem is tying it during a windy day 😅 I feel content with what I wear and again, i'm protective of it :D

heather is definitely one of those hijabis that wears her headscarf for more personal reasons rather than religious. religion is part of it because she does hold that dear to her, but she isnt as conservative or religious as her parents so she wears it because she wants to be connected to her culture, her parents, her religion and she also just feels so beautiful and content with it on. she's worn it since she was a small child to try and emulate her mother, and now at this point she feels naked without it.

heather is more lenient with her headscarf than her mother, but i will not be depicting her without it in the comic. if i have her in pjs or at home or something ill give her her inner hijab, but i want to stay on the safe side and not dabble in too many things i dont understand. i have drawn her without her hijab before so i know what she looks like underneath, but maybe thats for my eyes only hahaha

so: my secret spn in my head where every single character is a person of color. john is still a white vietnam vet cuz i think thats important to his character but maryam is the american born daughter of palestinian refugees who left during al nakba. maryam was pretty invested in assimilating (hence white vietnam veteran husband and naming her children Sam and Dean) but she Was muslim and her first language Was arabic and that Did leave a mark on dean but not sam bc he was a baby when she died.

so sam grows up never having known anything abt his heritage and so there’s never any comfort for him in it it doesn’t feel like home to him you know? and that’s part of the mythologization of maryam that dean buys into it more completely than sam. so when sam leaves home he tries to find comfort in american protestantism he does genuinely have faith but it isn’t a faith that comes from family it comes from trying to assimilate in a culture/religion that will literally never accept him because he’s arab (and also, like, half demon)

whereas dean doesnt actually BELIEVE in god but he does still remember the prayers that maryam used to say before he went to sleep he remembers the way she’d say bismillah before she ate or subhanallah when something good happened. and this is sort of a way that he connects w her. even though he doesnt really know or understand islam it’s still something sacred to him specifically because it belonged to maryam. like he doesnt read the quran and he doesnt avoid pork or alcohol bc he’s also trying really hard to emulate john’s ideal of white masculinity (which he will never reach because he’s a man of color) but he does privately identify w islam in a way that is reverential to his mother

and i picked palestine specifically bc im projecting all this is relevant to the palestinian diaspora. the cultural disconnect broadly but also specifically the sense of homesickness for a home that doesnt really exist anymore because of colonization. and that re: sam and dean both wanting to settle down wanting to have a home (they want it in different ways but they both want Something) even though they dont have anything to go back to

look this is where I'm going to go off on how good the Karkat VA is. they, like Rose's VA, read EVERY LINE like an individual unit. there is thought into every single delivery, and it's DELIGHTFUL. they make some hilarious choices, like I cackle out loud at "PLEASE GO ON, I AM LISTENING TO YOUR PROBLEM" every time.

"NOW, TELL ME MORE ABOUT YOUR FEELINGS" i'm fucking crying, i love karkat, he's a fucking bitch and i love him SO MUCH.

the Karkat VA has more lines than every single other person in the fucking story, and they fucking BRING IT.

I keep going on about karkat but its hard not to, they have incredible chemistry with everyone. I have narrowed down my Favorite moment of Karkat's and its this one. Karkat and Eridan. Karkat has just lost his best fucking friend, and he goes The Fuck Off on Eridan and it's incredible. For all of Karkat's big talk, he's not a very violent person, so seeing him actually truly furious is amazing.

Dave and Aradia, because I...... love Aradia. I think Aradia is the best troll actually? Whoops. (Also the Dave VA can be a little inconsistent, but this log is VERY fucking good)

THIS IS A SMALL MOMENT BUT look This fucking moment, when the Beta Kids' narrator hands off to the Trolls' narrator, and they get to talk about Aradia as she finally feels fully alive, it GIVES ME EMOTIONS

Kanna and Sou’s relationship got off to a rocky start at first thats for sure. Sou manipulating her to help save his own ass in the first main game but...

in chapter two Sou appears to lose his memorys (later reviled to be a lie) and Kanna offers to watch over him and make sure he isnt doing shady shit and they start growing a cute relationship of helping each other out in the Sub-Game

as Sara you only see bits and pieces of their relationship but it seems a fair bit more heathy and similar to siblings (thus probably why the nickname greenblings came around at first) we see Sou’s new protectiveness for Kanna too. right here

the original message was meant to break Kanna even more. even a person who didn't care about Kanna wouldn't let her see it but he goes even further than that

he specifically changes it to one that would inspire her and fill her with hope.

now why is this?

well it all comes back to Sou Hiyori. the real Sou Hiyori, Midori. and Shin’s first trial.

Shin’s first trial was designed to psychologically corner him and force him to change his personality to survive.(this was probably his “helper” to balance out his 0.0% as Midori says people with low percentages got.) and because he sees himself as weak and going to get eaten alive by the strong, he trys to emulate the strong person that he knew that fucked him over, his old friend Sou Hiyori and takes on the name, assholishness and willingness to manipulate.

the reason he manipulates Kanna is he sees himself in her and feels he needs to take on the role of Midori to survive. seeing it through that lens makes a lot of the other things he does make more sense too. how he was distrustful of Sara because of her high percentage, seeing her as the Midori thats going to use the Shin-like Kanna. 

when he asks Kanna if she trusts him and she says yes hes SCARED. scared shes going to get hurt by him 

before the main game Sou thinks Kanna has the Sacrifice. he truly wants her to win

he thinks that if she does she’ll chose Sara over him

and he still trys his hardest to make everybody vote for her. even if it means she loses trust in him in the prosses

he does so much to not die but hes fully willing to do so, if it means shes going to live

and people still deny he cares about her somehow.

onto Kanna

shes shown to care about Sou to the point of wanting to sacrifice herself for him because she knows hes a good person deep down.

she sure isnt oblivious to the bad things hes done, thats for sure but she also knows he cared about her and remembers him fondly after death for giving her the strength to keep going, a shoulder to lean on, and a sacrifice of himself to keep her alive

btw Sou isnt a horrible monster to her, hes done bad things but ultimately in mine and her eyes made up for it. shes kind and forgiving not stupid

Have you seen the clip of Julia garner explaining her accent choice? She actually does a half decent (in my limited experience) German accent for a hot second in it. Then goes into all this overthought bullshit of "but she's Russian too, but shes trying to sound like she's been around Europeans, but it's also emulating the Americans (who sound like valley girls and not upper class new Yorkers...) thats shes spending time with."

I’ve seen people say that Anna has this indecipherable accent but I honestly think that’s because a) a lot of Americans don’t hear german accents often b) Anna kinda became a myth, tbh. People made her out to be more than she was. They’ll be like she was impossibly glamorous with designer clothes and then you see pics of like, your average white girl in a normal black dress lol. The point of Anna’s scams was that she was unremarkable enough, in a lot of ways, for people to just buy what she was selling. If you met whatever Julia is trying to be on the street, you’d be like nope there is something deeply weird about this woman, stay away. now this is the thing im biting my tongue on SO HARD bc it’s my favorite aspect of the world building and the universe and everything involved in it bUTIHDFKJG THERS SO MUCH I WANNA SAYYYYYYYYYY in short that one dream sequence holds more hints and information than ANYTHING from previous chapters, i think that it’s probably the MOST IMPORTANT dream to date. while we’ve seen some crazy ones in the past, this one is both the biggest hint and the biggest window into y/n’s past by FARRRR. even tho that whole scene was dialogue i think there’s so much to pick up on from it and so much to see and learn from it and it’s one of my faves bc there’s so much to unpack from it !!

Like yes the story and the development is freaking ✨yes✨ I love it. Genuinely think moc should be released as books. But I just cannot deal with the emotions rn.

But also now all I'm going to be thinking about how many sirens are actually out there. And if yn knew her parents and wasn't just an orphan the military found in the streets... How the fuck did she end up in the military grasps. What happened to her parents what happened to the community, is it still out there? Guess I gotta go back and reread the galaxies and the backstories, obviously I must have missed or have forgotten something. Ugh how the puzzle pieces are puzzling (or something). Moc is a drug and I'm not going sober anytime soon

releasing moc as books? a dream and a half, i can say that much slkjdlgkjlkf but back to the sirens... how many are out there? we heard early on that hongjoong was looking for ‘the last five’ but then seonghwa debunked that and said that was a mistranslation over time that was passed down and such, but beyond that, we don’t really know much about sirens as a whole? there are some hints in the galaxies and planet descriptions but if that dream sequence is a puzzle, i would say we have a handful of pieces that can be put into place based on what we’ve learned so far!!!!

Okay I lied, I am ready to unpack a little of the ✨emotions✨

When hongjoong explained that hwa tried to stop San only for San to detain him and in a sense make him watch the scene unfold. And then realising hwa had to go through that again, only being even more helpless. I don't doubt hwa loves San, but to see the events happening again, with someone he clearly loves as much as he does yn even if he also loves joong, and to see the desperation and determination must have been just. Horrible. Just absolutely soul breaking horrible. I can imagine him vowing to himself after San that he would never let something like that happen again. That of any of the crew got out of control like that, that he would fight harder to stop them. That he would would do absolutely everything in his power to stop it. And then being helpless as he watched yn do it. Just pure heart wrenching pain. And it must have been beyond terrifying to see someone you love ready and determined to kill themselves partly from rage and partly from desperation. With the backstory, that scene becomes almost as cruel as the warehouse scene with San. The only redeeming quality is no one needing life saving surgery in a time crunch, otherwise they would be the same level of ✨never again✨

honestly i think the two crew members i torture the most are san and hwa bc i just keep putting them thru all this shit and hurting them so much but really this was the defining point of why seonghwa was so afraid. before we kinda just knew he was afraid of yn and hongjoong was mad about it. in this revelation we get to see the source of the trauma and how it was amplified by it being someone he loves as dearly as he loves yn. and for sure when first reading that scene of yn and jisung in the brig, it’s meant to evoke a sense of anger and rage like yn is so angry to a point where she would do this sort of thing, but my hope with that scene was also to show that desperation. that when looking back at it after having already seen the rage and the aftermath, that reading it again shows how desperate and hopeless she was in that moment. which is exactly the same emotion that was evoked back in that warehouse scene with san, except it was relayed differently because the warehouse was a more immediate sense of desperation. this brig scene was meant to emulate that but in a slow burn kinda way where the veil of realization is pulled off after the fact and not in the moment!!!

Just to make sure you don't misunderstand. Those asks were compliments. You are an absolutely incredible writer. And the fact that you aren’t afraid of hurting your characters *cough cough* SHOOTING SAN?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!!!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? *CLEARS THROAT AGRESSIVELY* just makes the story much better. No one gets plot armour, making it more realistic (?) and really draws in the writer and sorta imitates the fear and desperation the characters feel

PLS don’t worry, i live for every moment and i live for these open and raw and genuine conversations i didn’t take any as an insult i PROMISE!! i think part of the nature of this whole trope of space pirates and criminals is that hter is no guarantee of safety! i don’t wanna have to cut corners to make sure everyone stays unharmed and undamaged throughout the story when the nature of the world i’ve built thus far is a wildly dangerous one!!! i always say that i try to be as realistic as i can, all things considered, and i think that’s the biggest thing that adds to the ‘realism’ in my mind so im so happy to hear that you see it and appreciate it and enjoy it!!!

truly one of the HIGHLIGHTS of the chapter simply bc of how shocking and sudden it is!! for me, that was one of the easiest scenes to write in the chapter, oddly enough? it was something that when it came time to write it, i knew how i wanted it to be and was able to just sit down and write it out the way its written in the final draft of the chapter. i really love playing with those aspects of fiction and storytelling. tangible to a point, without spelling it out. i think it’s obvious that i really love delayed realization in writing, but i really like playing with how the brain processes information and for me personally, i don’t pick up on things right away! i can realize them in a snap or it can take me a bit to go ‘oh god that’s what happened’, and i like playing with that in y/n’s character a LOT.

and in that same vein of thought, there are some layers to that scene as well when compared to the door scene. in the door scene we saw hongjoong clearly tell y/n ‘you need to do this to save san’ yet she wasn’t able to do it despite trying and believing hongjoong. then in the heart scene we saw y/n clearly tell herself ‘you need to do this to save san’ and she did it then. so there’s a lot at play in that parallel alone too. and with that internal monologue she has of im fine vs not fine, then san kissing the hand that touched a literal real actual beating heart for me that was a sort of self indulgent scene and i was really worried about it coming across as too cheesy or something like that, but that is something that’s gonna impact y/n as a character and her relationship with san when they have the conversation of ‘oh hey i put my hand through a man’s chest for you’

i think part of why this chapter was so difficult to construct and write as a whole definitely is because of all the undertones and nuances throughout, and in a lot of ways it’s so so much to even think about that it’s almost too much packed into one chapter alone, but even if you don’t pick up on all the nuances throughout, i’m hoping to revisit them and bring them back around in that delayed realization style again bc that’s one of my favorite things to do ofc :3

augh i kept forgetting to post this because i kept wantgin to draw mroe for it but i really suck at emulating Animal Crossing Art Style so im just going to go on a rambling explanation about this under the cut but the basic concept is. they deserve a vacation. and whats more relaxing than animal crossing? probably several things but let me have this ok

id had a bunch of ideas for mroe drawings in this style but Clearly, i am not very good at it, and every time i sat down to Try Again it ended up shitty. this is from literally months ago by now lmao

my Basic Concept was just. take the 3 of them and dump them on an animal crossing island, cause while ive been sick ive been playing a lot of new horizons to try and stay stable, and my brain likes to mush together whatever 2-or-more things im invested in together all the time. here’s some bullet points!

-john really loves diving for sea critters and frequently pulls up those bigass lobsters and eels and shit, he’s got an unnatural knack for it. loves to startle the shit out of dave by just whipping an eel out of his pocket. no thats not an innuendo stop that-- -amy loves planting/watering the flowers but shes not like invested in getting All The Different Types (although that Would be neat) she’s just having fun building a large flower patch. it’s slowly overtaking the island. also dave likes to just kinda sit in the flower patch -speaking of dave he kind of doesnt do much, i think he’d like fishing with john and/or amy and maybe hed like digging up fossils but for the most part hes just chillin, as he deserves to be, -amy likes the DIY recipe stuff though and will frequently politely ask dave to go fetch stuff for her. this has led to most of the villagers/islanders/whateverthetermis, the animal citizens, to have their Main exposure to dave be him wandering around with an axe at 3am because amy’s out of hardwood -speaking of the animal citizens, because i just really like them as a concept, i have no solid concept of who-all would be on their island but whoever they are, john is “friends” with All of them (and by that i mean he says theyre all his friends; whether or not they find him obnoxious Varies,) and amy is genuine friends with most of them/has spoken to all of them at least, and dave rarely if ever speaks to them. hes not very social. most of the animals are a little scared of him until they Actually get to talk to him and then they realize hes just an awkward misanthropic bastard -also in case it wasnt clear id think the 3 of them would all be in one little cabin i mean you can upgrade the shit out of those so they could all feasibly have their own spaces. but also i like polyamory and id say they all 3 share a room because fight me they do itd be cute. also of course the decor of their cabin is absolutely bonkers like listen not only does animal crossing have some weird items but nearly any living space john inhabits most likely has some very strange decor in it !  -tbh actually i think john would do Most of the decor stuff cause like based on the way his house is described i think he’d go NUTS for animal crossing’s Theme Decor Shit i dont know i dont actually do a bunch of that but i sure do think he would! amy would help out esp since she likes the DIY stuff, and i think dave is just kind of ..... allowing this nonsense to happen. letting john be free. probably convincing him to not change the theme every day, maybe every week, if only because it’s a bit of a hassle to have everything Constantly Rearranged.  -hang on wait i just thought of the 3 of them wandering along the beach and picking up seashells and now im like emotional over it bro pls. lovely. -also i jsut realized if daves the guy who digs up fossils he definitely talks to blathers a lot and thats an extremely funny thing to contemplate. the dude who seems to not really liek talking to people and the chatterbox owl. fantastic. you know dave is probably too awkward to tell blathers he doesnt want to hear all thsoe archaeopteryx facts! (also tbh maybe dave would actually like learning stuff) -also. john catches bugs just to give them to blathers and watch him freak out just a little about it.  -john always ends up buying fake art from redd but it’s fine because he just puts it somewhere in or near their cabin. amy however has the uncanny good luck to somehow always find the real artworks! dave doesnt talk to redd, he doesnt really care. -this ones definitely projection because my animal crossing island is a mess (And I Like It That Way Thank U Very Much) but john definitely is the guy who will dump extra furniture at random spots on the island. too much shit in storage? don’t need that Harmonious Chair right now? holding it in ur pockets just because u dont know where else to put it? just dump it on the ground! uncannily, john fuckin Always remembers where he’s put that shit when he happens to need it again. however this does mean sometimes the animal citizens will just ... find a mysterious new chair in their front yard.  -i know that terraforming is a new thing in acnh but i havent done it yet because i dont care about the whole 3 stars rating thing like listen im jsut here to run around and fill the museum if i feel like it but mostly pick up pumpkins and hoard bells for no reason and let my island be taken over by wildflowers. if any of the 3 are into that tho its john or amy--john just for the hell of it, amy would actually like try to Make Stuff of it -their front yard (and back yard if their cabin is put somewhere to allow that) is full of unused furniture as well. and also sometimes random dropped fruits or something, if dave is already carrying a ton when he sees something to dig up. -i think im out of shit to say right now but i might reblog to add mroe so. yes. if youve read this far then holy shit youre dedicated or really bored or something but whatever your reason is i hope this was A Fun Read and if it gave you any ideas Please Tell Me my inbox is open im sick and still in quarantine and i crave human interaction from literally anyone who isnt my parents. thank u

now. the thing is. my irls who watch atla who know me very well say that i am suki to. a. t. (my best friend who knows me better says im zuko but thats besides the point)

suki is everything i wish to be. i wanna be her so. fucking. bad.

she is the badass leader that i try to emulate in my every day life. she does not take any shit from anybody. when sokka comes onto HER ISLAND and disrespects HER WARRIORS she puts an immediate stop to that. she put that boy in his mf place. as she should. she is strong and understanding and takes no bullshit for sexism or misogyny. but the most amazing thing about her first interactions with sokka is that even tho hes sexist. he apologizes. he asks for her help. and instead of disregarding him she forgives him and helps him learn and grow. so many people dont give people the chance to learn and grow from their mistakes in real life (in all situations not just sexism n shit) and that makes her so much more compelling to me. she is gracious and gives him a chance and becomes his first real friend on his adventures with katara and aang that is his friend first. not kataras friend. not aangs friend. sokkas. she is constantly supporting everyone around her and doing whatever she can to be brave and supportive and helpful to whoever needs it. we all know shes a brave badass. thats been said a billion times. but its important to note that she has so much compassion. we see it in how she treats appa and cares for him during appas lost days. we see it in how she gets inspired by the gaang and leaves kyoshi to do even more than she was already doing to fight the fire nation. she helps refugees make safe passage to ba sing se. she is incredibly tied to her duty and is extremely loyal and i admire that about her.

the line “im a warrior, but im a girl too” is always something that i enjoyed about her character. yes it may come across to some people as that cheesy feminism shtick that a lot of tv shows and movies do to say “yeah girl power!” but the difference between suki and those other “girl power moments” is that atla develops sukis character as a feminine warrior instead of just a pandering attempt to get woke points (im looking at you endgame). we see sukis feminine side AND her badass warrior side. the two sides of her coexist flawlessly and are both developed very well in my opinion.

i also enjoy that she is her own character outside of her relationship with sokka. she has her duties and responsibilities to the kyoshi warriors and her home. she enjoys training and combat and also just being a teenage girl. book three is amazing at showing that she is more than just a badass warrior, but a teenage girl too. she wants to have fun with her friends on the beach. she hangs out with katara and shows concern for aang (who is her friend btw,, if ur a fic writer plz have suki interact with people outside of sokka. her and kataras friendship is so fun and unique. they are gal pals. they are besties. katara and suki is a brotp that i need more of.), she wants attention from her boyfriend and finds it very sweet when he makes an attrocious sculpture of her. she laughs at the ridiculous ember island play. she fucking saves toph and tokkas life. she has done so many incredible things man.

shes still a teenager!! she makes jokes and has a really good and highly underappreciated sense of humor!! “i didnt know you made out with the moon spirit?” “...i think i could get you backstage!” “is he, ya know...” guys suki makes me giggle so much.

the main issue i have w atla fans is kind is that while suki is a badass female warrior and while that is a big part of her character shes more than that too!!! this goes for all female atla characters. can we stop reducing them to one trait? can we stop reducing katara to mom friens? mai to quiet goth girl? ty lee to ditzy pink girl? toph to murder child (dear god thats a whole other convo plz stop w murder child toph thats not even TRUE)? yue to sheltered princess? suki to lady fighter go hit-hit? like cmon they are all multifaceted and unique and they deserve just as much attention and analyzation as zuko and sokka and aang and jet.

i love suki man. i love her so much. whenever someone tells me i remind them if her my heart gows bumbum.

plus shes like super pretty so theres that.

Aladdin (2019) thoughts *Minor spoilers*

Growing up Aladdin was one of my favourite disney movies behind Beauty and the Beast, I loved the action, the comedy and of course the music. Not to mention the iconic robin williams performance as the genie.

My earliest memories of going to the movies was actually the orginal, yes for shame i was one of those kids that wouldn't sit still, but my parents always said when genie was on screen my eyes were definitely fixed on the screen, i was captivated by this blue force spouting jokes i wouldn't get til i was older but was mesmerized all the same.

With the disney live action remake phase in full swing, the four i was most looking forward to was Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King (which is next) and the eventual little mermaid one, and of course aladdin, i thought it would look dazzling in live action as the costumes in the original and the set pieces are so iconic. I'll try not to go into major spoilery details too much but i do want to give thoughts on the new additions and the characters compared to their originals.

Aladdin - I thought Mena was great in the lead role, i loved his sincerity and charm, definitely lived up to the story arc of being a diamond in the rough, whose worth lies far beyond what is on the surface, I liked the slightly different direction they went with his character, as in the original he was still confident and cool being more 90's based (he was designed after tom cruise) i thought he was better written in the remake as he wasn't as confident and cool, at times being really awkward, he still has those cool moments and charm but the story of aladdin was being confident in yourself and being yourself rather than being an act which i thought they did better with the prince ali section here. Mena's singing was great too, he really emulated brad kane's voice and vocal performance. I loved his relationship/bond with abu who was also adorable.

Jasmine: Wow, just wow, thats all that i can say to describe how much i enjoyed Naomi Scott as Jasmine from her dazzling costumes, to her amazing singing performances. I always liked Jasmine because i felt she like belle wasn't after the traditional tropes of finding a handsome prince, Jasmine wanted to forge her own path and not have her life decided for her. She was confident and determined to marry for love and not just because of the established laws. In the remake they take a slightly different turn where she wants to live up to the standard set by her mother and do what is best for the people, she reaches a point where like the original where she is fed up with having her voice not be heard  which leads into a powerful new song called "Speechless" that i cannot stop gushing over. A message that everyone can relate to, her performance was definitely a gamechanger and i look forward to seeing what she does next. I loved the addition of her handmaiden Dahlia aswell who provided genuine laughs. Nasim Pedrad had great chemistry with the other cast members.

Genie: The biggest question was how Will Smith would do in the shoes of Robin Williams, i think he did great, i mean its a different take so he doesn't do as many impressions as Robin did but in saying that, the original was written with robin's standup in mind, so genie in the original was as much robin as he was their genie. Will brings what makes him Will Smith he had the same heart that the role needed while also being fresh, i definitely saw a bit of the broadway version in his performance while also being will's own take. Like he has been a genie for 10000 years and served so many masters that he has his craft down to a T, I think the only thing i was expecting was more references to other disney movies, i like Will's comedic timing and playing the straight man to the awkward humor scenes. I thought his performance of "Friend Like Me" was great, it was one of the scenes i was looking forward to the most cause obviously his singing was a big part of my childhood with fresh prince, men in black and wild wild west. Will was cool, charming, sarcastic, but also charming, likeable with lots of heart.

Jafar and Iago: This is where i think it will devide alot of viewers because this is a different take on Jafar compared to his manic incarnation by Jonathan Freeman. In the remake he is more of a dark version of aladdin, brought up on the streets as a thief but corrupted by power. He wasn't the wise,  manipulative man he was in the original, he was impulsive  and arrogant overstepping his role and driven by this desire to not be second best. He is of course flanked by his sidekick parrot Iago (Not voiced by Gilbert this time but by voice actor and all around amazing Alan Tudyk) he doesn't speak full sentences like he does in the original but he does give off the impression he is highly intellegeant offering sarcasm, wit, one liners and piecing together plot elements by being Jafar's eyes and ears in the castle. While i was disappointed there was no giant snake (Seriously disney how could u miss that) showdown, i thought the final act was satisfying while still working with what had been established. Like i said a differnt take on Jafar but i think it worked for this movie as his motivations/ideals for leadership clash with Jasmine's which creates a powerful moment for Jasmine.

The Music: One section where the remake absolutely shines was the music, all the classics are here and they sounded amazing, i love how each of them have more arabic sound to them, Alan Menken really outdid himself with the instrumentals, it gives all the songs more weight, my favourites were "One Jump Ahead" and obviously "A Whole New World", Naomi was born to sing that. I loved Arabian Night's update as i never really liked the original lyrics, like i get it was a product of the time but still change is good. Speaking of which i did like the little tweaks to the lyrics, just subtle changes to them but still keeping what made them classic.

The Costumes: The costumes were fabulous, i loved the respect shown and the delicate nature of the costumes, Jasmine's in particular were amazing.

Final Verdict: I think people will be pleasantly surprised, i know through the marketing it was very ho hum but i do feel like this is a good update to a movie that is a classic to so many.

Even if you were cynical about seeing it give it a try, like the lamp itself it is more than what it seems on the outside.

ain‘t no heist like a halloween heist

@jake-and-ames and I have summarized what we think are the highlights of the fifth episode of the brooklyn nine-nine podcast. maybe those of you who can’t listen to the podcast for whatever reason can profit from it a bit

Part 1 with Melissa Fumero, David Phillips, Cortney Carrillo

they expected the heist episode to be a one-off thing but the reception was so good they decided to do more of these episodes

inspiration were Halloween episodes of different shows

eventually it was a given that there‘ll be a heist episode

there is a video of Mel geeking out because she‘s on a harness going through the ceiling in S1 like in Mission Impossible

there’s generally a lot of MI elements

the Halloween episodes are especially long shoots

shooting the Handmaiden scene in S5 took so long that Mel started texting with a friend and they did astrology charts of people and analyzed them together

initially in the 3rd halloween heist the woman opening the door on the 16th floor was supposed to be Kylie but the writers didnt feel it was right so they changed it

they didnt plan Terry hating heists to use that as a tactic later on but they realized in S5 that they could use it in S6

roman numerals are used for many things in the writer‘s room but they only stuck for the heist episodes

for one of the heists (sorry I didn’t catch which one) they tried emulating the Ocean‘s 11 score

when Holt explains the whole flutist thing there is a flute playing in the background

there’s a “Babysitter’s Club” theme when Amy and Rosa team up and there’s a few instances when Mel and Steph tried sneaking in the theme song

HalloVeen: the cold open is Mel‘s favorite

‘you’re being so mean do it harder’ was an alt-line and thats how that bit became a thing

the Jake/Amy dynamic in HalloVeen is a throwback to early Jake/Amy dynamics

Andy ripping Andre’s shirt open and vice versa was done in one take

where does Bill come from? the writers felt like they wrote themselves into a hole with Bill because they worried it wouldnt be funny or they wouldnt find an actor who could make it work

but they saw the actor for Bill walk into the audition room and they knew it would work with him, and he can imitate Joe very well

there were theories about next heist winners: Kevin or Cheddar

SPOILER: Scully‘s medical probems will be explored a bit more in S7

there weren’t a lot of people in the room when the proposal was filmed but a lot of production people came down before the filming, including Dan Goor - it made Mel realize that it‘s a meaningful moment and she says she wont forget how she felt

Andy came up with the “I love how you pretend to love Die Hard” line

they mention Andy‘s heart eyes and they talk about them and that one panel, when a girl in the audience asked him to look at her like that and she burst into tears immediately after

everyone loves how in the wedding what made Jake cry is Amy saying “your butt is the bomb“ and how he responded with “you’re my dream girl”

“Kevin and Holt should get their vows renewed” - MEJ

Part 2 with Alexis Jacks, Chris Call, Walter Eckert

property master is in charge of everything an actor touches and interacts with (watches, phones, computers, glasses, jewelry etc) not interior design in itself though

art director: overlooks the look of the show (sets, costumes, paint, architecture, design) makes sure it all gets done

set dressing and constructing: build sets and dresses it (sofas, tables, carpet etc)

costume department: 10 people (shoppers, continuity supervisors, fittings and dressers)

the characters have closets so the costumes can be reworn and give the characters and the show a “normal people” vibe

stuff gets changed mid-week and in the beginning people had to change a lot of things or scrap everything they compiled so far and start over so now they make drafts first because they expect changes mid-week before they start

if there’s bigger things that are needed the departments get a heads-up, also for calculations and adjustments

the B99-seamstress (they call her Monina so I’m assuming it’s Monina Arellano) is very low-key but a fast and impeccable worker and “a master” at what she does. she came to B99 after Parks ended

The Bullpen is a standing set (meaning it’s there the full year)

Shaw’s bar is a stage over but it gets taken down and sent away each season because they use that stage for different sets

The builders can construct and deconstruct stages in less than a day

a lot of props are get ordered online but many things are built from scratch

The cake in the cake shop was a prototype constructed of the Die Hard DVD Boxset (it comes in a Nakatomi tower) covered in fondant and a figurine scaling down on a string of licorice

the actual cake was never fully constructed, they built the shell of the broken tower in pieces, and laid them on the floor and then stuffed them with real cake

Gina’s statue was made of hard density foam and then spray painted

Cinco de Mayo Terry was spray painted and the clothing was color matched

Cummerbund: they created 2 belts with different inscriptions for HalloVeen

The belt in 6 was remade because they couldn’t find the original anymore

Terry wears suspenders because they wanted him to have a retro detective look and no jackets to show off his physique

Jake’s jeans are more often than not Andy’s own jeans

Holt wears either his uniform or navy suits to echo his work uniform

Rosa can run in her heeled boots but the show is not always accurate to actual work life and a real life detective would most likely not wear heeled boots to work

“Boyle is a Boyle” with tones of beige, butter and brown. the whole family wears it, even Nikolaj

Amy wore pant suits and now her uniform which is, like in reality, ill-fitting and when she’s out of work, Costumes try to put her in very casual clothing

the utility belts are super heavy so now it’s just foam and rubber. and there are belt keepers that snap the utility belt to the belt of your pants because otherwise you would have to strap it so tight that you cant move or it would pull all your clothing down with it (it carries a gun magazine, a baton, handcuffs, belt keepers, pepper spray, the Walkie-Talkie [case], a gloves pouch, taser etc)

the NYPD tasers are yellow but props went with black ones

props handle all real and fake weapons as long as they’re not automatic ones. then they’d have to bring in an Armor, a certified fire-arms specialist

they never used a real gun so far but air soft guns are used as the guns while shooting and gun shots are added in post

Props is also responsible for animals

there was a time when Props could go to a pet store and rent a hamster, shoot with it and bring it back now there’s an animal trainer for any animal you can think of

animal trainers have headshots of their animals as well and someone has to look at them and choose which animals they want to cast

48-Is there anything in particular that would ignite your character’s jealousy? Or does your character not get envious?

This might be surprising but I don’t see either of them as particularly jealous people (at least not in relationships + they don’t express it if they do feel it) Persephone might occasionally tell a bitch to back off bc hades is Hers but she knows that he’s faithful to her so shes not actually worried by it at all its just disrespectful on the other person’s part. That and the fact that she grew up around Hera, who a) she is Not a fan of and b) is incredibly jealous so she doesn’t want to emulate that. Hades is really aware of the way Persephone’s mom was super possessive of her when she was younger (i think demeter gets a lot better after the Hades Incident and they go to like family therapy so it’s a lot better now but still) and really doesn’t want to ever be like that for Persephone. Also, like with P, he trusts her and knows he has no good reason to be jealous

22. What kind of tattoos, piercings, birthmarks, freckles, and other such unique physical features do they have?

ok so they both have a lot of scars, obviously, but most notably Hades has his half pomegranate tattoo on his right wrist. he used to have an hourglass there, but that was what had marked him as Cronus’s, so after he killed him he picked his own symbol and covered it up. Persephone has 6 pomegranate seeds tattooed around her wrist like a bracelet. Of course Persephone gets a giant fancy engagement ring (bc Hades is a romantic and also he knew she secretly wanted one. she insists it was only because she appreciates the finer things in life) that has definitely made someone bleed after she slapped them, but when they get married they don’t have a big ceremony but they both get tattoos on their ring fingers. Eventually, I think Persephone gets Hades a wedding ring bc she’s sick of ppl hitting on him (shes not jealous, but it’s the principle of the thing) but for both of them the tattoo is their real symbol of their love (except only one of them would ever admit it bc thats so fuckin sappy. Guess who. it’s not persephone.)

13. What are your character’s sleeping habits? Heavy or light sleeper? Blanket stealer? One that always rolls onto the floor? Pushes their lover onto the floor? Sleep talker or walker?

They’re both light sleepers bc uhh they don’t wanna get killed in their sleep. They’re both not used to sharing a bed with anyone so for the first year or so they’re constantly accidentally (or purposefully) pushing the other off the bed or stealing all the covers. Neither of them sleep walk but Hades has definitely been woken up several times by Persephone threatening someone in her sleep. Once an enforcer, always an enforcer.

08. What is, perhaps, their biggest flaw? Are they aware of this or oblivious to it?

For Hades it’s probably that he doesn’t always think things through, which is dangerous in his line of work. It’s helped him in a lot of situations, though--it’s why he killed Cronus, how he met Persephone for the first time, why he was like “hey join my gang” after knowing her for like three days. He definitely knows it and he gets so frustrated by himself, bc he knows it’s probably gonna kill him one day.

For Persephone it’s that she thinks she can take on a lot more than she can. She’s super skilled, yeah, but she’s human and she has limits. Sometimes it’s her getting into fights where she’s sorely outmatched, but sometimes it’s that she’ll try to deal with everything herself and will never confide in anyone or ask for help. She was always taught she had to stand on her own when she was younger, and it takes her a long time to be comfortable enough to show weakness (another big flaw). She knows it on some level, but again it’s hard for her to accept it.
