About Sam Winchester.

[This post has been edited after my discussion with @samjgirl , @sam-winchester-admiration-league and after @adaav 's comment to my post. I really want to thank them for their time and for pointing many interesting points out. I wasn't well informed about the techniques of storytelling and I believe I lost a bit of focus after season 11. Now I'm actually happier as I've started to even more appreciate this character, so win-win for me!]

The character of Sam Winchester was my biggest surprise and my biggest disappointment while watching Supernatural (but it's not his fault). [EDIT: while I still don't particularly like (for now) s12-15, I've realized that my disappoint was more due to my ignonorance of storytelling techniques rather than by the way the character was written]

It was my biggest surprise because I had never related to a fictional character this much before. I think you just have to both be the younger sibling of a dysfunctional nuclear family and be trauma-bonded to your elder sibling to get it. I won't go into further details about it because it's a whole essay, but I have to mention it because I need to state that I feel a deep connection to Sam. We both made the same choices, the same "mistakes", the same sacrifices.

So I was astonished when I started Supernatural because of the way it felt true and real. I don't know if the writers lived similar experiences and were therefore able to tell this story truthfully, but they nevertheless did a hell of a job in describing the unique bond of two siblings trying their best to navigate their traumas.

From season 1 to 8-9ish, we see Sam morphing from being the hero of the story to one of the two main characters. [EDIT: this is incorrect, Sam has always been the hero of the story. I think I felt like he was "shifting" into a slightly less prominent role because Dean, as supporting protagonist, was given more space in order to proceed with the filler episodes]Slowly but surely, Dean also becomes the hero and I think that was fair. [EDIT: see above, technically this is incorrect, sorry lol!]You can't fully narrate the story of a bond withouth fully integrate one part of it. I loved all the parallels to Michael/Lucifer and Cain/Abel. I thought they were brilliant. The show allowed me to go deep inside and start sorting out some stuff I've lived. It really made me think a lot.

It's fair to say that the brothers' codependency was the crux of their problem. It was painful to watch and sometimed downright awkward but the writers got it all right: the otherwise unxeplicable and toxic jealousy they felt for one another, the inability to share their deepest feelings in way other than fighting, and hell yes, even Sam's decision to run away and not look for his brother after season 7. It was not OOC, it's exactly what he did when he was 18 and what John did as well 4 years after that. As a matter of fact, Sam is more similar to John than Dean could ever be.

It's definitely been a long journey but I find that the resolution of their codependency (in season ELEVEN!) was cleverly thought-out and brilliantly executed. It couldn't have happened before, the two bothers must have been either already in or close to their 30s to confront the knot, to acknwoledge the grip the trauma they've lived had on their life. Sometimes getting older does help and give you perspective. This might be why (as I've stated here) season 11 is my favourite one: it gives a sense of closure and hope.

However, here comes the biggest disappointment part. [EDIT: this is due to the fact that in part, I didn't fully get it]

After season 11 Sam morphs from one of the two main characters to a side character. [EDIT: incorrect, as per previous EDIT, Sam is always the hero and lead protagonist]The show must be about the brothers' bond and I'm okay with that. However, it looks like after season 11 the writers couldn't come up with new ideas to talk about this kind of bond. It felt like, other than co-dependency, the bond didn't have much to say. Therefore, both Sam and Dean almost go back to square one while they had all the possibilities to explore a new aspect of their relationship.

What could've been this new aspect? Easy: making them realize that the family they each wanted was, simply, different. This is just my opinion on the subject and how I've felt about season 12-15 so it's okay if you disagree. [EDIT: well, this is still my opinion, although it has nothing to do with Sam's narrative role in the story and more about my personal preference, so I think this is where I got confused]

In my opinion, from season 12 Sam is just a part of Dean's family. It's not "Sam&Dean"'s family. It's just Dean's. And I think the writers could've explored that in a more meaningful way. Let me explain: let's take Cas since he makes the perfect example for this scenario. Dean has repeatedly included Cas in the "family", he's called him not just his brother but "our brother". He includes Sam in the equation but I personally don't think Sam feels the same way. Sure, Sam cares for Cas and thinks he's family, but I think his idea of family is "Cas is my brother's husbandbest friend and therefore he's part of the family". He's extended family, kind of. [EDIT: this is still just my opinion and has nothing to do with Sam's narrative role. Although "family" is one of the themes of the show, it was not the only one]

My opinion is canonically backed because, aside from Rowena, all the members of the Winchesters Found Family are part of the family because Dean has allowed them, Dean has a deeper relatioship to them and ultimately because Dean decides who can enter the circle. This is totally in character and I love Dean for his ability to care and form deep bonds. [EDIT: this was also needed for Dean as a character because he's not the lead protagonist so he had to have something else in the story that was not necessarily connected to the mytharc]

However, this is not in Sam's character: Sam is the one who runs away, the one who wants to create his own family, the one who really needs to emancipate himself from his older brother. I truly wished the writers explored his passivity in "accepting" the status quo and made him, if not rebel, at least express his wants.

It would have been a moment in Sam's growth if he could've just, instead of running away, confronted his brother and stated that his desires were different, that he was part of Dean's family but it was not his family. Instead, we only have glimpes of what Sam really feels: he doesn't think of the bunker as his home, he doesn't ever say that he has a family (not surprisingly it's Dean that in "Lebanon" tells John "I have a family" and not Sam), he doesn't really have any other meaningful relationship aside from his brother.

Supernatural ending did him dirty, too. Not just for the awful wig and make-up but because the ending framed Sam as a two-dimensional character: "freed" from his brother and his brother's family, he finds a blurry wife, a dog, a son, a white picket fence. How sad is that? We never get to see Sam really connecting with anyone: all (and by all I really mean ALL) the women in his life, from his mother to one-night-stands while on the road passing through Ruby, end up dead (RIP Sarah Blake). Of course his wife at the end had to be a blurry figure in the backfround (she was not even besides him on his deathbed!): she was a testament to all of his past relationships. Like, seriously, apart from Dean, the ONLY lasting relationship Sam has throughout the whole series is with LUCIFER and this alone, I think, speaks volume. [EDIT: again this just relates to the fact that I'm not particularly fond of s12-15 and of the overall ending. Technically speaking, the ending makes sense. Whether I liked it or not is another issue]

In conclusion, after season 11 Sam is no longer an interesting character because the writers both downright refused to give him another substantial character to interact with and insisted once again on his codependency with Dean (which was already resolved). [EDIT, tbh it was a weak ending to begin with, LOL, I didn't like it even after I wrote it hahahhaa, but yeah, as this whole post proves Sam Winchester is far from being an uninteresting character because I just spent a frigging afternoon learning new things thanks to him so I guess he's like the gift that keeps on giving!]

Having said that, in my heart of hearts, Sam Winchester will always have a special place because I get him, I really do.

MENTAL ETC

boy has autism. i'd say level 1 . big sensory issues & needs VERY LIMITED amounts of input. poppy helps desensitize him but. i like to imagine him with little sunglasses & headphones. a little odd socially too . he was always an outcast but you know what? we ball . he balled. he made it.

it's MY headcanon so i get to assign him a delicious dash of paranoia. maybe ppd? probably not ppd. but still very paranoid. ocd perhaps or severe gad at the very least. he thinks everything will kill him or is against him, severely. he tends to isolate when he's nervous. he copes by talking things out with poppy who is always so understanding & encouraging of him to try new things. they r in love <3

severe depression, pdd or mdd . he has to take medication [do trolls have medication. probably. it's , uh, holistic] but poppy always reminds him & makes sure he's on track

ptsd from the abandonment & grandma thing. sorry singing killed your grandma brother.

regresses as a way to cope because :3 i said so. the 'stuff' [pacifier] is LITERAL!!!! he only told poppy [he didn't tell her. she found out when he had an involuntary episode in front of her. she was confused but she loves him so it went well] & she is :3 about it. "ohoohoo my baby branch my bitty b ... yes you are" she thinks it is so cute but he is embarrassed . in tbt he revealed it a little to his brothers. &

john dory - doesn't really get it but likes seeing him be a little guy

bruce - just treats him like one of his kids tbh

floyd - overprotective big brother mode all the way.

totally has meltdowns from overstimulation & poppy just. takes him to a dark quiet room & he thrives in there .

FAMILY

john dory - big 'i hate you... bro' type of relationship. they don't get along but they respect each other. if my opinion of john dory changes maybe they will get along better. not now though/

bruce - COOL OLDER BROTHER!!!! branch looks up to him but he really also looks up to branch like.... bro survived on his own like that.....:cry: they are a little awkward sometimes but bond over engaging in activities together

clay - "hey buddy" "hey pal" ":}" ":}" very chill around each other. just calm. clay has similar symptoms in his autism so they get each other

floyd - besties for life... as much as he;d never admit it branch is So emotional so they talk things over & bond over deeper things like trauma & missing family. they are besties GENERAL

gets greyer some days & poppy ALWAYS makes an extra effort on those days to make sure he knows he's loved

hates the sensation of sneezing so much that he chooses to avoid new flowers/textures in case of allergies/dust [autism, baby]

can't really sleep. struggles with feeling alone at night but if he's with poppy he feels. odd & strange. why is there Somebody in my bed ?!

because of that last one he just passes out everywhere. boy is the eeper for real

had a crush on poppy the whole time since movie 1.

lowkey wishes he was 'normal' & cries about it sometimes. does this lead to meltdowns? occasionally.

in the same vein, very picky eater. literally will starve instead of eating the same meals every week. mad respect for that branch i'm the opposite

hates gum with a passion. the texture the taste the noise is all terrible

gets very destructive when overwhelmed. like. screaming crying yelling hitting. but! poppy did a seminar on neurodiversity for those guys in there so they . kind of get it. they help branch not to get overwhelmed

Your ask is about this post, right?

So looking at my examples, you can interpret it that way with some if you want, but with others...not so much.

I hope you actually want to hear me out, because this might get a bit long. Apologies in advance. 😅

-I can't imagine how awkward it'd be to view them as sıblıngs considering some of the suggestive things they do in canon. Personally, I think it'd be pretty weird to grab/tug on a sıblıng's apron when there's nothing underneath and say it "matches them well".

-If someone talks about your sıblıng being good looking, I don't think most people would get flustered enough to start sweating and trying to play it cool. I feel like the sıblıng equivalent would involve something more like eye-rolling.

-For the cake one, sure, you could interpret it as them being goofy in-universe, but from a meta perspective, putting an item that is so heavily associated with you on top of the cake seems to me like putting the wedding figures at the top. It comes off as intentional fan service, which Hima often likes to include.

-For Valentine's Day, the scene with Alfred and Arthur is paired narratively right alongside the shippy GerIta stuff. Additionally, there is a note that says this:

"In Europe, it's traditional for lovers to give gifts to each other."

"In America, giving gifts is also mainly done between lovers."

It does indeed mention male to female, but only to give cultural trivia about the difference between Europe and America. The important part is the emphasis on lovers, and we all know Hetalia doesn't shy away from same-sex shippy moments – as evidenced by Germany proposing to Italy in the very same strip. Speaking of proposals, one dynamic that closely parallels Arthur/Alfred is that of Antonio/Lovino, and Antonio tried proposing to Lovino in the manga.

I digress.

-Sıblıngs typically don't suggest ideas like dressing in sexy outfits and swaying their hips provocatively. Which reminds me, I forgot to include a similar scene in my post where Alfred intentionally has Arthur wear a Robin costume that shows off his legs. Yes, intentionally.

"Also, didn't you notice your costume is from the movie and mine is from the comic?"

Of course Alfred would notice. There's no way a big Batman fan like him would've chosen Arthur's costume carelessly, but instead of answering why Arthur has the skimpy version of Robin's costume when it doesn't even match his, Alfred instantly deflects. He then proceeds to tell Arthur to stop crouching and show – ...something. Based on what Arthur is covering, the logical assumption is that Alfred is telling Arthur to show off his legs.

-"Are you fighting like an old married couple again?" Self-explanatory. If they were sıblıngs he could just say, "Are you having a sibling squabble again?"

-Cardverse is a canon AU by Hima, and Alfred and Arthur are the King and Queen. Magical Strike is also a canon AU, in which Alfred has a fαthεr who is the company president. No other fαmiliαl relations are given. Arthur is a salaryman who simply works for the company.

-There's the scene where Arthur is dying that plays on the "near-death love confession" trope.

-Other characters comment on their relationship...

Again, if it was brοthεrly they could just call it a brοthεrly quarrel. It comes off to me more as teasing friends who could potentially have romantic feelings for each other.

-Tony sees it, too, teasingly commenting "Love me bubu. Kiss me bubu," in reaction to Arthur and Alfred's conversation. He doesn't normally say things like that, either.

-Terms like "big brοthεr" in Hetalia shouldn't automatically be taken literally. They are used in a more Japanese sense (e.g. calling a somewhat older person who isn't related to you "big brοthεr" out of respect). France calls himself "big brοthεr" to literally everyone and even Norway refers to Denmark as "brοthεr".

-Regardless of how you interpret their usage of "big brοthεr", Arthur decides against being called that right away, Alfred himself rejects the idea of it during the Revolution, and Arthur later claims their relationship is "not like that" and fumbles for a way to describe it, mainly considering himself as more of a former mentor or boss.

So I believe that after the Revolution, it's most accurate to consider them as coworkers or friends (who may or may not be attracted to each other).

At the end of the day, you can interpret it however you want. But with how often USUK fans are given a hard time for liking this ship, I wanted to point out that we're not pulling this stuff out of nowhere. It's hinted at and given shippy fan service moments just like several other ships.

I only really disagree with people constantly insisting they MUST be fαmily. Romance vs fαmiliαl are NOT the only two options. I would honestly like to see more non-shippers just let them be friends. Just because I ship it doesn't mean others have to, and just because some perceive it in a fαmiliαl way doesn't mean everyone else must view it like that, either.

And to those who do decide to hop aboard our ship, welcome! We have lots of variety to offer and are always glad for more people to have fun chatting about ideas with.

Mei:

Literally, she loves the duality of you and finds it adorable. As someone whose always loud and excited but also gets EXTRA excited around close friends, she can vibe with that! She also doesn't mind being your extroverted shield and never leaves your side during public places and if she does, she makes sure she's really quick because she doesn't want you to be uncomfy. She isn't worried about you being unhealthy attached to her because she knows you go at your own pace and she's proud of you and thinks you're super cool for that!

Like a mind reader too because she sees you internally dying and being silent and she's all: "KAY, THANK YOU, BUT WE GOTTA GO NOW, BYEEEEEE-"

MK:

LITERALLY HE IS SO PERFECT FOR THIS S/O. He's extroverted but he's also like really goofy himself and gets a bit awkward around new people so he doesn't mind that you choose to stick next to him. It also helps him worry about you less. I can imagine this is how you guys started dating, like you always gravitate towards him and ye gets really excited because HEY, HE KNOWS YOU TOO and he overall just feels so honoured he's one if those people you feel relaxed to be yourself around. Worries when you don't talk much and will take you to a private place to ask if you're okay and tell you that it's okay if you wanna leave!

Wukong:

RELATABLE, HONESTLY. He will admit that he loves seeing you just casually being outgoing with your friends and he thinks its adorable and precious and he teases you when you're silent but not to the point its hurtful, he just thinks its really adorable. You're lucky he's super clingy too and never really wants to leave you alone so he's just got his arm around your shoulder or he's holding your hand. Either way, he loves everything about you ngl and the both of you have very similar vibes. Until he starts a fight, then you're gonna have to either talk your way out of it or find a way to subtly sneak off with him.

Macaque:

I think this would be really cute if he fell in love with you for this reason, maybe after his redemption where you're silent and stuff but then as you get comfortable and more outgoing with him, he slowly starts to fall in love with you. I'm not saying he gets smug when you gravitate towards him but he gets very smug and teases you for a bit but otherwise, he really doesn't mind chilling with you. Since he would be the type to notice your behavior, if you're uncomfortable or you feel awkward in a situation, he'll just casually snatch you away. Loves seeing you be outgoing too. LITERALLY, IT WOULD BE THE CUTEST THING EVER IF YOU WERE INTRODUCING HIM TO YOUR FRIEND GROUP AND YOU EXCITEDLY START TALKING ABOUT HOW YOU GUYS ARE DATING because he sees how passionately you talk about things and he feels really happy that, well, he's now one of the things you excitedly talk about

First of all, thanks for this question anon, it make me so happy to know someone else like them! 💜

In case some one is curious where this comes from, here is my HaruTaku fic!

Okay, for properly answering this I think that I also need to go first with my Sanzu hc for that specific timeline, because for me is related in why they make sense! (and bc I love talking about my lil gremlin, ngl)

Sanzu headcanons for Bad Toman Takemichi TL:

Okay, obv he did wharever he could for being close to Mikey, that goes without saying. But there is two big differences with Bonten.

He's not the second in command, so he has to kinda obey Kisaki (what he hates, always giving that silent hater looks 😎). But since he never showed that "good guys toman type of morals", Kisaki allows him to be one of the fews that still sees Mikey, bc he's not going to influence him or stuff like that, Sanzu is totally fine with the darkness (he isn't bc it triggers him tl0 memories but his denial is strong xD) So his job here is mostly watching over Mikey and ofc, getting rid of traitors! No way Kisaki didn't use that once he realizes, Sanzu devotiton is too easy to control and too useful for his own good 🥲

In the other side, this means is less confident about himself than what we saw in Bonten. He's still unhinged but he's not that loud about it, he doesn't have the selfsteem boost of being his king's right hand. So in a way, he's more insecure about himself and the mission he does, since he has less control about what happens to Mikey. Also, Sanzu is a weirdo, so like happened in early Toman he doesn't properly fit with the rest, besides job related thing he doesn`t have friends there (we could count Mucho if in this timeline Izana was never on the picture, but even with that Sanzu doesn't easyly trust people). It took him more time to stop wearing his mask here and it was probably more gradual!

And what we know about Takuya?

Not much, just that he's a sweet person and a good friend. He probably followed the rest of the Mizo gang (specially Takemichi) and got caught in Toman's violence.

He wears a choker in this timeline and had and aming glow-up including some sick tattoos. Pretty boy with sumi vibes!

This is where my hc starts, there is something about Takuya that screams addiction to me. I don't know how to explain it, maybe is his dull eyes, maybe his body language, but Takuya is coping with drugs (mostly downers bc he just wants to disappear for a few hours... Takuya is a softy 🥲)

Finally... HaruTaku headcanons!

One thing about addicts is that we have a radar, we know when someone else is an addict (similar to gaydar but more selfdestructive). So Sanzu probably started noticing the subtle changes in Takuya and he was intrigue about it. Specially coming from someone that was always surrounded by people he dispised. They never really interacted before, but Sanzu started paying more attention to Takuya, noticing more things about him, like how Takuya was actually shy and sweet behind that quiet appearence. And yeah, maybe a part of him felt indentified with that, he could understand having to act quiet to hide yourself better than anyone. For some reason, Sanzu started thinking that maybe they have more in common that it seems at first sight, and we all know he can be a little bit obsessive, so...

At some point, Sanzu aproached to Takuya. He probably created a situation when it could feel almost natural, I personally picture him waiting until Takuya is having some drinks alone (no way he's gonna talk with the other idiots if he can avoid it) and sitting next to him, paying the next round.

Takuya was probably intimidated, with reasons. But at the same time, he was drunk and high and Sanzu is pretty, so damn pretty! So he couldn't and wouldn't resist, it was easy for him to feel flatered by Sanzu's awkward way of flirting (c'mon, he doesn't have social skills, we all know that). And Sanzu? He just told to himself that he was curious, nothing more. Just one night for satisfying his curiosity, that was all. For understanding why on earth he felt that weird attraction towards Takuya.

OBVIOUSLY IT WASN'T ONE NIGHT! 🔥

Mix two pretty boys that are craving for love and affection and a lot of drugs? Recipy for disaster and unhealthy relationship, yey!

The fact Takuya is a submissive person who is numbed by the drugs most of the time and Sanzu has a lot of pent-up agression and is usually high of a mix that includes more estimulants than what Takuya is doing, only leads to unsafe sex where no-one is controlling shit or in the proper state of mind to be aware of how dangerous is what they are doing. What means a lot of next day regrets! 🎉 (extra: Sanzu has a kink with Takuya's neck and is obsessed with the choker, he calls him "pretty neck" on bed. Takuya weakness is Sanzu in high-heels, specially if they are red, I'm not projecting at all on that one, nopes 👀).

Besides sex, there is more to say about their dynamic, don't worry!

Takuya is the type to be sweet and caring, he hides that side of himself inside of Toman but still shows it in his personal life. It wasn't easy for him to feel relaxed around Sanzu and he was afraid of showing his kindness and being mock by the other. But for me Takuya is also an observing person, so I think it didn't took him a long time to realized how wounded is Sanzu, how he actually hates being in his own mind more than anything, how much he craves love, aproval, affection. So he started showing more of his loving side, having small gestures towards the other, always in private. Physical displays of affection in general, but also waking him with coffee, paying attention to his needs or his routine, making sure he felt comfortable even when they slept in Takuya's apartment (that now is always extremely clean only for Sanzu)

And Sanzu? He was melting with all of this. Well, to be fair at the beginning he was baffled, unsure or what to do or how react to someone showing him affection and kindnes, specially since Takuya didn't seem to be expecting anything in return. But once he finally understood it was fine to let Takuya spoil him and treat him like he actually deserved love... Then he was melting. Wakui said Sanzu is the most needy/clingy, so he started to be the one asking (demanding) for affection, wanting to be pampered, resting his head on Takuya's lap and enjoying how he plays with his hair (that's a privilege, he's really protective of his glorious pink hair! It's totally baji's fault)

Do they love each other? Well, that's complicated. Their relationship is not exactly public and they never talked about what it is, always pretending is something casual. It's easier like that (no it's not but they are bad at feelings). Takuya is aware that he's falling more for Sanzu every day, but he's terrified of the other reaction if he actually says the three words, so he hides it. Or tries to, because he pours this love in every small gesture, specially during their lazy mornings, when between the hangover and the guilt Sanzu acts a lot softer, wanting to give Takuya all the after-care he's able to dom

And Sanzu... Well, he wouldn't say he loves loves Takuya (because Mikey exists 😮‍💨), but he admits to himself that he deeply cares about the other. That there is more than atraction, that he enjoys their time together. Affection? A less obsessive love than what he feels for Mikey? He isn't sure and he can't deal with it, so he settles with caring.

Of course, we also need to talk about Mikey's ghost! Sanzu knows Takuya is not Mikey, is not that he's projecting him on the other all the time, it's just... He yearns for Mikey, he can't help it. So, sometimes, Takuya's blond locks make him feel that longing and he can't stop himself to imagine for a few seconds (delusional HaruMai in every timeline, hell yeah!🔥). In counted ocasions, when he's really high and out of himself, he says Mikey's name during sex and pretends to not remember the next morning because he feels too ashamed of it. He remembers more than he wishes, but he feels like shit and can't talk about that, he can't avoid feeling guilty, thinking that Takuya deserves better, deserves somone that is not using him as a replacement. Takuya understanding only adds more fuel to his guilt.

In that ocasions he tends to act distant for a few days, trying to dettach himself, to pretend he doesn't miss Takuya's affection. Until reality comes crushing down on him again and he ends up looking for Takuya, knocking at his door in the middle of the night.

Takuya felt hurt the first few times this cycle happened, but he didn't had the courage to actually confront Sanzu about it. Until one of that nights he saw how broken was Sanzu, he saw a little bit of the pain that the other usually hides from the rest of the world. It was the first Sanzu cried infront of him and the first time he called him "Haruchiyo", earning a surprised look and a weak smile 🥹

Since then, when Sanzu acts like that Takuya gives him space, understanding is not about him, that the other is fighting with his personal demonds.

And... That's it for now because I need to stop myself at some point or this will end up being longer than a fic. Maybe I will add more things in the future! 🙈

And hey, now that I look at it, they are not that terrible for each other if it wasn't for the amount of drugs and the dangerous sex. But hey, there is also love and sweetness and Sanzu needs that, so... Not that bad? 👀

Do you ever think about Bobby Twist?

This kid whose father never wanted him and we don't know whether his mother did either. A kid trying to get his father's approval and being ignored. Just a kid, feeling that his father yearns for something different, a life which Bobby is not part of, one where Bobby doesn't even exist. And even though he does not fully understand it, it hurts him.

Once in a while, maybe a couple times a year, Bobby sees Jack drive off to some far away place to go fish. He knows that Jack is the happiest right as he's about to leave, and the saddest when he returns. Does he ever think that he is the problem? Does he cry because he thinks the reason daddy is unhappy is because he hates him and wants to get rid of him?

Bobby is a teenager when Jack Twist dies. I imagine him crying at the funeral - not because he misses Jack, but because he is ashamed of himself. His father is dead, and yet he feels nothing. God, he's a monster, isn't he? It's a closed casket funeral - Jack's head is busted. Bobby tries to imagine his face. He doesn't even know what color his eyes were.

I imagine him becoming a well-off young man. He starts to spend time with the adults. They talk a lot about Jack, they say Bobby's his “splitting image”, they tell him stories about Jack that he's never heard before, and Bobby realises what he has been suspecting for a long time - he didn't know his father at all. And then, when Bobby (or now probably Robert), feels lonely, he tries to connect with Jack Twist, even though he's only a ghost in people's memories. He learns that Jack's soul is more elusive than it seems - it looks like he had affairs, but...he didn't? And what was he really doing on all those “fishing trips” that were so important to him?

What if Robert found postcards among his dad's stuff? Dozens of them, all from different adresses but from the same man: Ennis del Mar. He would've realized that man had the answer to the riddle that was Jack Twist.

I imagine him tracking down Ennis, now an old and lonely man, living alone in his trailer. I also imagine Ennis nearly having a heart attack upon seeing him, because it looks to him like Jack is risen from the dead. Robert would ask about his father and Ennis would tell as best he could, but it would still seem like a piece of the puzzle is missing.

Maybe Robert would drive back home and forget about that old man. Maybe he would never learn what he wanted.

But I like to think that he would know from the twinkle in Ennis' eyes when he speaks of Jack, from the way he looks at Robert as if he were an angel, from how he seems at loss for words when describing what they did on those trips many years ago - he would know. And he would cry because he just met the only person in the world who both knew and loved his father.

Ennis would freak the hell out, but Robert would promise to never tell anyone, and say that he's actually relieved to know Jack's secret...wasn't that horrible.

I hope he'd keep visiting Ennis after that. I hope they'd get past the awkwardness, and that Ennis would get to know Robert as his own man rather than just an extension of his father. Then, maybe Ennis could finally have something similar to that son he always wanted, and a little piece of Jack - not the same thing, not at all, but enough to be worth living for.

Then, maybe Bobby could have the father he always deserved.

Similar to Malleus, he likes your vibes even if you two can seem a bit like opposites.

Out of all of these characters, he has the most trouble fitting with you and your bold fashion choices along with your bubbly attitude

At first he might look like he hates it, he hates talking to you. But when his eyes are closed as you are rambling on and on about a history topic you learned in class, he's listening to every detail. He loves hearing things from you, and it's just adorable to him to see you get so deep into different ideas and topics

He won't try on anything you ask him to haha, but he might give you some expensive pink items here and there. Just as simple gifts, but everyone else is like "where are you getting all these hella expensive stuff 😭😭"

He will act tsundere, pretending he doesn't like you hugging him or being bubbly around him, but in truth he likes the attention. If one day you forget to hug him, he might tease you and ask "Don't I deserve one?" or something like that 😭

No worries about tangent-ing! I think you raise good points; I didn't think much of it when issue 8 came out, but with other people on Tumblr pointing out the oddness of a canon character from the 'main' medium (the games) extensively gushing about a newly-introduced one in a new medium (the comics), I've increasingly found myself also considering it a ploy to hype up Whisper more than anything else. At the very least, it paints quite the negative picture of Silver, or at least greatly undoes how powerful he is supposed to be. But then again, he seems like the type of person who would absolutely destroy himself to help others (like at the end of 06 where he tries to seal Iblis into his soul), so with some suspension of disbelief I could imagine that in the Forces!war he got in over his head and got into life-threatening scrapes and had to get helped out there. (On the other hand, iirc Sonic plus the Avatar easily broke one of those massive grey Death Egg robots or whatever they're called with a spindash through the face, sooooo... But then again, in that game little got done without Sonic for six whole months anyway. I personally enjoy Forces, but that aspect of the Resistance imo definitely is odd.) Still, I think it is strange that Silver's fanboying is getting dragged up again after it should have gotten resolved at the end of the MV saga. He had his fight with Whisper at his side, they succeeded (twice, if you count the Metal Sonic stuff early on and MV afterwards), he's gotten to know her as a person who is just as fallible and flawed as anyone else, so why does the comic insist that he still has this amazingly high view of her after it has not gotten brought up since like... issue 8 and a VERY minor mention in issue 26? It doesn't come out of nowhere, but to me it feels displaced.

Furthermore, now that I think about it, Sonic's snarky reply about Whisper being Whisper's name when Silver actually whispers during her true introduction ("No, genius. Whisper is her name.") absolutely is him being a dick! That has always bothered me. As well as that whole "Couldn't even play along, had to bring the mood down." part. Maybe some concern about the world you are living getting imminently ruined, Sonic? Hmm...

I guess sorry for my long tangents in your askbox too, but I actually find it quite interesting to think about it all and analyse it in such a way!

Yeah, it gives an odd impression. I know that calling comic-exclusive characters "OCs" is controversial :P but it really feels like that. It's a lot of telling and hyping up a character that belongs to a "lesser" canon by using a character that belongs to the "main" canon.

(also, friendly reminder that Flynn back in the day explained his decision to create Tangle by putting down all canonical female Sonic characters. That's also not a good move.)

It feels like they don't know what to do with Silver and they've also ran out of characters to use, so they're bringing back one trait they had established about him to create Conflict. To be cynical, they may be not putting in much effort to be more creative since the comic is in severe danger of being cancelled :P

Boy, I re-read those few pages of #8 to put them in the post, and geez Sonic is just so unlikeable. "My over-eager friend here is Silver" dude, c'mon! Imagine if your "friend" introduced you like this to someone you admired! This is not like Sonic calling Knuckles a knucklehead after being tricked and losing them two Emeralds, it's just making fun of a guy for being awkward, I refuse to believe that Sonic would be so insensitive! Man, if I think of all the things we let slide from early IDW because of the hype... :\

(Team Sonic Racing, which came out a year after #8, had a similar chemistry between Sonic and Silver, but it came off as more endearing, and also more befitting the context because it was during a race so Sonic was expecting some trash talk lol)

Sure! You're more than welcome to! I'm more than happy to talk about them anytime, and you're more than welcome to share it!

Actually, they can get embarrassed fairly easily! Some more than others, of course.

Reaver is the hardest to embarrass. He's pretty unabashed in his licentiousness, and he learned a long time ago to live his very long life to the fullest. He does what he wants, buys what he wants, and wears what he wants (even though Asto and Nighty make fun of his fucking ridiculous hat constantly.) When he wants things, he just... takes them.

The only time he really gets embarrassed in front of his brothers is a... very peculiar incident that more or less had to do with a piss kink he swears he does not have. It was a bloody accident-- well, not an accident but it was only once. They make fun of him for it mercilessly because he gets embarrassed.

Reaver is more prone to anger than humiliation. He's very secure in himself for the most part, even the worst parts of himself. Hence why he's one of the more openly disgusting of the group happily. He wears his degenerate badge very proudly.

Asto is a little easier to embarrass. He has a tendency to get drunk and a little nutty at weddings. He has a bride kink and has been known to wreck weddings in the worst way imaginable. Nightmare thinks it's hilarious and deliberately takes him to weddings now-- except his own. (Nightmare's wife Snake actually killed Astarion at their wedding when he tried to cop a feel. Nightmare resurrected him but told him he deserved it. He warned him not to fuck with Snakefang but he didn't listen. Reaver met a similar fate with his heart cut out thanks to an incident that happened prior, and I will say that he really fuckin' deserved it. Unfortunately, it really only enamored them with her even more.)

Asto is fairly unabashed of who he is as well, but he will get embarrassed by Nightmare sometimes. When he's drunk, he gets very thirsty and will get a bit... wild. There are some times from back in the day that you can bring up where he will turn a bit pink. If you play your cards right, you can make Asto do just about anything. A mix of bloodlust and regular lust and it'll turn him into a fool. When Nightmare calls him out on this, he does actually become a bit embarrassed.

Sometimes, their girls can manipulate Asto in a way that Nightmare will get irritated about. It's such a blatant manipulation, but Astarion doesn't really... care... at the time. Slap him, taunt him with your neck, let him feed and grab at his trousers. Then tell him you want 4am McDonalds right now. He will do it.

There are easy ways to embarrass him, but it really depends on the scenario! Nightmare is the most uppity. He definitely can get embarrassed. In fact, he's usually more embarrassed by some of his behavior than he lets on.

He will get drunk and say and do things that he will never admit to the next day. His past, and what he's done to get power is something he is very embarrassed of and has actively made efforts to erase all traces. He actually is prone to becoming embarrassed at his own lust. He will do disgusting, abhorrent things and then go 'Don't know what you're talking about. Never happened.' when it's brought up again.

Any night he goes drinking with Reaver, he will get embarrassed by something he does. He gets embarrassed for Reaver as well.

His sexuality and turn-ons can actually make him very embarrassed. He's extremely repressed and when it boils over, he has a tendency to get embarrassed after the fact at his loss of control. He will never ever ever ever ever ever admit it usually, but he has an awkward kink that gets his engine going. He likes being called 'daddy' or 'big brother.' It's a good way to send him a bit embarrassingly feral. After the fact, he will never admit this, and say that you're the weird one and that you did it of your own volition. You are the one that is into it.

Thinking about it, Nighty is actually the easiest of the lot to embarrass because he puts so much work into being prim and proper. Anything that fucks with that vision of himself is prone to make him flush a royal purple. There's actually a lot of examples I can think of.

He actually goes bonkers-fuckin-feral over nuns. Not sexy nuns, mind you. Full whimple and habit nuns. If you want him to immediately get hard as a rock, pretend to be devout. He loves religion in the worst way. Praying in front of him. Rosaries. Religious icons. He goes absolutely nuts. If you end up in his grasp, you will end up dressed as a nun at some point, and it will be the most miserable night of your life. You won't move for days.

He actually gets very embarrassed about that. Like very. Asto will bring up 'the convent incident' and suddenly, Nightmare has to be like... anywhere else.

Ilya can be mortified at himself, it just takes a bit of work. He's very open with himself like Reaver is, so trying to embarrass him sexually probably won't work, but you can embarrass him.

Nightmare likes to make a game of it. Reaver likes to encourage it.

One-upping him knowledge-wise is embarrassing to him, because he prides himself on being clever. Sometimes he will say very blatantly stupid shit and not realize until after he's said it. Drinking him under the table, he has a tendency to get a bit wild like Asto does, and is more prone to embarrassing behaviors. When he catches feelings, he gets embarrassed over that quite easily. He is embarrassed over any emotional outbursts or any outward feelings other than his calm, cool, and collected demeanor.

Secretly, he's embarrassed at just how much he craves security. He prides himself on being a stoic lone wolf, but deep down, he genuinely wants someone to love him. Not everyone, mind. Just someone. He wants the kind of love his mother told him about. The happy kind.

But if you ask him, he will say that is lame as fuck and stupid as hell.

In general, they will all do embarrassing stuff for their children. There has been a time where all of them (vicious, ruthless killers with a body count that could rival a world war) were wearing baby-pink bonnets with flowers in their hair, cross-legged and sipping on fake tea at a child-size coloring table attending the tea party of three young children Nightmare adopted (he has a very soft spot for children and will do whatever it takes to make them happy.) Uncle Reaver and Asto will get roped into these goofy scenarios by three very insistent children.

I think Nightmare is the only one who doesn't get a bit bashful over it. He loves children and desperately wants to be a father. In some universes, he is. Reaver definitely doesn't like dressing up like a princess. Asto will do it and have a good sense of humor about it, but if you try to walk away with evidence of it, he won't let that happen. Ilya will own it, but you certainly won't find him wearing flowers in his hair outside of the manor.

Personality-wise, I feel like it really depends on the mood I'm in, but I would say I tend to be introverted and quiet. I'm a bit socially awkward so I normally wait for people to approach me instead of me taking the initiative and talking to them first. I'm not that very expressive and many people I know describe me as monotonous or an air head. I'm also extremely sarcastic and I have a dark sense of humor. I also have a hard time understanding jokes at times. Though I can be very talkative at times, that's usually only when it comes to topics that interest me or something that I have a strong opinion about, so because of this, I tend to ramble a lot and infodump when I'm talking with others. Sometimes I might be a bit harsh/blunt with people and come off as rude, so I have a hard time supporting people emotionally. Instead, I normally give people practical advice to solve their problems, but I'm always willing to listen to what my friends have to tell me if they are having a hard time.

For hobbies, I enjoy listening to music, sketching/drawing, and I also play the violin and piano. I also play videogames (mostly Genshin Impact), and I will occasionally watch movies/TV shows when I'm not too busy. (My favorites being Studio Ghibli and Your Name. I love watching true crime shows as well!) Relating more to academics, I'm also really interested in history and mythology.

He isn't one to usually receive emotional support either (as we said, his presence in this writing shi- piece is already an emotional support), and isn't one to freak out on any situation either, so when something happens and can be under his control, he'll just ask for your insight as well. He would even call you while he is working or anything similar (he usually doesn't deal with crazy stuff, mostly boring stuff- so don't worry, he won't call and be like "hey babe, I got shot and dunno what to do")

He doesn't really know about your hobbies- he thinks they are cool, and for sure would be with you while watching crime stuff. And for sure listen when you infodump when you talk about mythology or history (writing material is writing material)

Alhaitham and you are quite similar, which in my opinion makes you guys suit each other well!

Alhaitham is a bit monotonous himself, and lacks a bit in tact department in my honest opinion - so you being similar might bring the two of you a bit close as he two seems to infodump only when it suits or interests him. So you info dumping him wouldn't be too much of a problem, as it means you are not wasting time or breath on idle chatting because he knows that this is what interests you.

Also he prefers much more receiving advice, as he himself isn't keen on emotions or outbursts, but logic and reason is always very welcome.

He doesn't exactly share your hobbies (does this man even do anything that isn't sleeping or reading?) but listening your music is something he would find relaxing! He wouldn't tell it outright, but hearing the music before sleeping or reading.

He will solve the mystery in the crime shows and be a smug bastard about it too: throw a pillow if you don't want to hear him.

He also would infodump you on history and mythology, if you don't know something that's it. Just typical Alhaitham being a troll.

i love the idea of the host club each coming up with their own ways of trying to show their affection for kaoru,,, ghghfghfgnfjjk

like haruhi can almost relate to kaoru and how he feels because she has depressive states similar to his i think. like she hasn't had one that bad in years but she knows how it feels to want to just stay in your room and never leave, to just shut everyone out, so in that letter is her being way more heartfelt and honest than she's used to being (she's not good at it, so its very awkward) and that's why only kaoru would be able to see it. not only because its solely addressed to him, and she didn't need everyone to know that about her, but because kaoru would understand Her as well, and not make a huge deal about some things she confesses in the letter (i imagine she talks about some of her own experiences and episodes in the letter-- if tamaki saw that of course he'd make it a huge point to treat her differently, for good reasons of course but haruhi doesn't want that). point is, the letter is for kaoru to know he's not alone, and that it can get better. and she brings the dvd presents because she wants the gifts to feel like they came from a friend, someone who Knows him enough to know his favorite movies and the things he likes. she knows he probably feels like they don't really care about him, so she tries to show with the gifts that she does care. she cares enough to remember what he likes and write a awkwardly heartfelt letter to him

writing this literally made me appreciate kaoharu so much more,, like they could be so close with each other we were ROBBED of them having a really close bond just because they don't end up together!!! that's fucked up!!

anyway i also really loved mori just trying to be helpful to him. wanting him to get better but he's not exactly one for heartfelt messages (or,, words), so he brings him that list of things that can help, emotional regulation techniques, coping methods, stuff like that.. oh my god what if he texted him really bad motivational images that you always saw on like old Tumblr,, like that one picture of a silhouette of a woman on a mountain with an orange sunset and the text is like 'always stay strong in the face of fear' or something really corny. and it turns out mori has a TON of those and they're printed out and put on his walls because he finds them so inspiring. new favorite headcanon

i could literally go on about this for every member.. you are so big brained for this...

but also them all hanging out once they get through to kaoru? perfect. they drag him out of that room, its probably super messy from him being too depressed to clean it himself/not wanting the maids to come in. kaoru's tired, mostly from the sudden emotion but hikaru shoves him into the shower and brings him clean pajamas to wear, makes him brush his teeth and helps him brush out his hair. this is probably also when they have their own private moment together,, hikaru asks him what happened, what he did wrong and kaoru cries again and tells him that it absolutely had nothing to do with him, that he loves him and he would never try and 'punish' him for anything this way. maybe he even figures out how to communicate and tells him that he just wants him to be his own person, that he thought it was for the best if he stayed away from them so that hikaru could have them to himself.

"But didn't that make you sad? Aren't they your friends too?"

"It did, and they are, but because of how I was acting, I thought that maybe...they didn't want me around anyway. And besides, you being happy is way more important to me than anything."

hikaru bursts into tears again, and it's partially from anger. he's angry that kaoru would ever think that leaving him and wrecking himself would be the only way for hikaru to grow, he's angry that he seems to think that only hikaru's growth is important, he's angry that kaoru can't seem to love himself as much as hikaru loves him.

hikaru yells at him, and he's not proud of it, he feels terrible immediately after, but he was angry at kaoru, and he felt so guilty and angry at himself for being the reason kaoru almost lost everything-- for being the reason they all almost lost him. even if it wasn't really hikaru's fault, he was right at the center of it all, and didn't see it. it filled him with guilt.

kaoru isn't mad at him for yelling-- in fact, he thinks he probably deserves it a little. he just hugs hikaru tightly and tells him he's sorry, not to feel bad because he didn't know, when kaoru wasn't telling him. there was no reason he should have known, the whole point was that he didn't. they have their really long heartfelt talk, and both feel a little better after all that, so they return to hikaru's room to find that the host club has built a pillow fort for movie night. haruhi proposed the concept, but were kind of clueless about how to do it. they all only had an idea of what it was, and the only ones who knew how to start building one were haruhi and hani/mori (hani likes them for sleepovers). thank god the twins' getting ready also included a long emotional talk because it took them at least three tries to get it right. mostly because it was only haruhi hani and mori building. tamaki kept knocking stuff over so they kicked him off the building team and kyoya just 'oversaw construction' (he had no idea what the point of it was or what he would do if he did help). by the time the twins are back though, they have a good (although precarious) fort made to watch movies in. they accidentally made it pretty small, but they all squeeze in together. kaoru is hugging usa-chan and tamakis teddy bear, very comforted by being able to hold them, and hikaru is hugging kaoru-- with the host club snuggled on either side of them. kaoru feels so warm and safe with all of them, and he realizes that they could never leave him. they know him, they know that he wasn't himself, they are willing to watch cinderella with him. that's more than kaoru could ever ask for.

idk if its realistic that hikaru and kaoru actually talk about all that but i hope it is. i want them to. they deserve to be happy i llove themm,,, sorry this is so long i just love them and this scenario. plus i relate to kaoru in this so much (my psychiatrist said im also depression coded!!! this is just like kaoru from ouran high school host club!!!!) idk he makes me so happy. love that guy fr

I agree SO HARD about the Haruhi thing!!! Haruhi has totally dealt with depression b4 and knows how bad things can get... tbh I didn't really think abt what her letter may be about but your idea is so!!! yes!! Kaoru would be really touched that Haruhi was opening up to him and just him so much.... kaoharu really is so amazing. their relationship could have been so good if Kaoru in canon decided not to forcibly remove himself from her so hIKARU COULD SPEND MORE TIME WITH HER *SMASHES TABLE* IT ALL COMES BACK TO THE SELF-WORTH ISSUES KAORU HONEY PLEASE.

fr tho, they understand each other abt their most intimate issues, and I think they really could benefit from having another person to relate to... I can see Haruhi really helping Kaoru out with his depression, just by virtue of having someone who can listen and understand. They can b there for each other when things get bad..... guguguhgughguh

and Hikaru taking care of Kaoru?? I didnt even think about it but he so would... he'd help him get in that shower and wash his hair for him, get him warm new clothes, brush his hair, make him brush his teeth, and Kaoru would just let this happen of course... but being clean does make him feel 100x better admittedly. And their conversation? It probably happens as Hikaru is silently brushing Kaoru's hair... his voice is quiet and scared, scared to make things wrong again, but he wants to get his feelings out. He tells Kaoru how sorry he is for whatever he's done. That he never meant to hurt him in any way. That he just wants to know what he did wrong to hurt him. And Kaoru does quietly admit it has nothing to do with Hikaru - he considers telling him to forget it, but knowing Hikaru, he won't take that as an answer. And so he's honest, about thinking it was best if they became independent and lived their own lives. That'd it'd be best if Kaoru wasn't in the picture anymore.

That deeply upsets Hikaru, and of course all fear and sadness becomes anger for him. He demands why Kaoru would think that. Why do things have to change? Why do you have to leave me? Why can't we stay together? Don't you ever think about what's best for yourself???

And Kaoru tells him that it doesn't matter. Point blank, he just says, "It doesn't matter what's best for me. All that matters is you being happy."

And of course, that pisses Hikaru off. Well, more accurately, it scares the fuck out of him and breaks his heart and makes him feel immensely guilty knowing this is all indirectly his fault. So he ends up yelling, calling Kaoru and idiot, saying that he's being stupid. He tells Kaoru that he's done a shit job anyways, because this past month has been the most stressful and depressing month for him in his life, and he's not happy at all. No one is. And Kaoru breaks down into tears (his emotions are pretty haywire at the moment) and just...apologizes. A lot. And he begs Hikaru not to hate him even if that would be for "the best" because if Hikaru hated him then he wouldn't have to worry about him becoming attached for life like Kaoru has but he's selfish and he wants his brother to love him and oh, isn't that so selfish of him? To want something for himself?

Hikaru pulls Kaoru into a lung-crushingly tight hug, and he tells Kaoru he will never, ever, EVER hate him. Because he couldn't. And that he'll always love him, no matter what. And while that makes Kaoru a little guilty to hear, he can't deny how utterly happy he is, too. He missed his brother. He missed everyone.

Btw, the pillow fort thing is... hilarious. That is SO ouran. Kyoya supervising?? Fucking priceless. I love it so so much.

Also the idea of Kaoru falling asleep midway thru the second movie bc it's been a looong day with a lot of emotions + he's running on not much sleep to begin with. It's cute. He's conked out on Hikaru's shoulder and Tamaki makes a big deal abt it and whispers "Don't wake him up!!!! He needs his sleep!!!! This is a direct order!!!" haruhi rolls her eyes but she's endeared. Also sidenote I think this is Hani's first time viewing Cinderella 1, 2 and 3 and he's also become a small fan. His favorite is oddly the 2nd movie which is by far the weakest in the series (<- cinderella super fan /unfortunate)

and later that night when they're alone... I think Kaoru def moves back in his room with Hikaru. Neither were sleeping very well without the presence of the other, anyway. And Hikaru will DEFINITELY hug Kaoru to his chest that entire night, just so happy to have him back but scared to death of losing him again. There will probably be more to talk about in the morning but for right now... they're content to just embrace one another again.

SIDE NOTE UNRELATED...ISH: a concept I always wanted to write a fic for based off my own headcanons is kaoru being afraid of thunderstorms (totally not self projecting whaaat). The sudden flashes of light are mostly okay, but he HATES the sudden loud noises. It freaks him out. He doesn't break down into tears or anything, but it does give him a lot of anxiety and makes him super fidgety and on-edge as a result. It'd be a cute hikakao concept to have Hikaru stick close by him during a thunderstorm, cuddling or just hanging out under the blankets. If a thunderstorm strikes while they're at school for example, Hikaru won't leave Kaoru's side and will hold his hand. Very soft stuff....

Aurene

I never realized how big she was until I first met her. Sure, she's elder dragon and all, but I didn't really know how big everyone was talking about, and I was kinda in awe when I first met her.

After the initial awkwardness, she's starting to feel like a cool big sister, the kind you want to impress but you don't really know how.

Caithe

She's like, so cool. Quite bit intimidating, but also cool. But I would never tell her that face-to-face. I think she already knows, anyway.

Everyone says Caithe is the most serious person they've met, but I know better - she does sometimes crack a smile to my awful puns! I've seen it!!

Taimi

I don't think I should leave Taimi and my sis Enfys alone together again, I was gone for less than half a hour and they were already planning how to take over Rata Sum.

Taimi is the smartest person I know, but she really sucks at lying. Even Enfys is more believable when I ask her if she ate the last slice of the mango pie dad made (she did, I know it!). If I ask Taimi about anything she doesn't want to talk about, like did she like living in Rata Sum, or Zojja, or what she thinks about Gorrik, she just scrambles to change the subject as quickly as possible.

Gorrik

The half a year I've been training at Eye of the North I think I've learned about bugs more than I ever had or ever will. It's fun seeing him get excited over a bug trivia that he can share with someone else.

Lot of people think he only cares about his bugs and nothing else, but that's not completely true. He's not the most verbal about it, but attentive to the needs of people around him, especially when it's Taimi.

Nettle

The one of the first times I talked with hir about being a Champion and all, I remember hir being surprised that I didn't have a wyld hunt or similar premotion to a champion, but that it was something I wanted to do.

Although Nettle's retired from being champion, ze always makes time for me when I go to visit hir in Priory and have any questions about Aurene and the dragons, being Champion, or just saving the world. Ze also has so many stories about Aurene when she was a baby dragon.

Rama

Despite being all gruffy, I think he has a soft spot for kids (basically anyone younger than him, it seems).

For being a local, Rama has surprisingly low tolerance for spicy food. We found that out when our orders got accidentally mixed in a noodle stand, and I thought I was gonna get arrested for harming a Min-Sec officer. Enfys thought it was hilarious, but I disagree.

Yoon

She has some incredible people skills, and not just dealing with people like Minister Li. I think she could convince fish to walk on land, if only she could speak to them. I wonder if she'll ever work on universal jade-tech translator.

Although we really haven't spoken that much, I do think we're kinda similar in a way. That when we have a goal, we'd do anything to get there, no matter what the personal cost would be. It makes me wonder what she's given up in order to be where she is now.

Yao

At first, I only really thought that they are kinda cute, but then we helped them with the city power outage, and they were just, pretty amazing at what they do, and then they offered to buy us food (that's when Rama had his accident with spice), and we talked a lot that night. Since then, I've been busy with all the stuff that just keeps happening, but maybe when things are more quieter, I could ask them if they wanna go visit that noodle stand together again.

They did give me their holodevice number, and I got one for myself too, so we've been talking a little over that. Mostly just sending holopictures, actually. I do have to ask them later what the tiny pictures, the "holo-moji", they send mean, but I've been too embarrassed to admit that I don't know that cipher yet.

pairing: oscar piastri x childhood friend! reader summary: when you show up to your first day of work experience at McLaren, you're greeted by a friendly face and a whirlwind of old emotions warnings: none, just some awkward dialogue and a backstory i very vaguely hint at because i don't want to reveal it yet ... w/c: 2.6k

a/n: whew this ended up being WAY longer than I had intended it to be whoops. also! may or may not have relied on personal experience from living in a small aussie suburb and having awkward interactions like this DAILY. thinking of making a pt2 for this if it gets enough attention :"") hope u guys enjoy !!

You hadn’t seen Oscar in 12 years, maybe even longer.

And yet, here he was standing in front of you - much, much taller albeit. Words seemed difficult to form, the only thing you were certain of was that nothing you said could encapsulate the pure shock that swept over you upon locking eyes with the boy, if you could even call him that anymore.

“Oscar.” Was all you could let out, breathy and a little incredulous. You were lucky though, as it was clear he was experiencing a similar wave of emotions. Your name tumbles out of his mouth and you’re almost snapped out of your daze by the fact that his voice has dropped about a thousand octaves from the last time you heard it.

“It really is you,” he says, and you let out another gasp of disbelief as you watch his mouth curve into a smile.

“You two know each other?” came the voice of your superior, who had just been showing you around the McLaren building - the place you had been assigned to for work experience, a requirement during your last year as an engineering student - and was clearly eager to get on with it.

“Yeah we, uhm, went to school together. When we were kids.” Oscar piped up, answering the question on your behalf with a polite tone that didn’t give much else away about how he felt about this, admittedly awkward, twist of fate. It also didn’t give away the fact that you two could hardly just be called ‘people who went to school together’ - although you chalked that up to him seeking to avoid any more questions.

“Guess karting worked out for you, hey?” You were the worst at small talk, but something inside you was desperate not to let go of this opportunity chance had dropped into your lap, even if a stupidly obvious question was what it took to do so.

He lets out a soft chuckle, easing the tightness in your chest, thank god. “Yeah, I guess you could say so.” He continues to laugh as he’s saying it, his eyes crinkling and cheeks flushing a little as he does. You’re so entranced watching the little movement in his expression, simultaneously so familiar and refreshing, that you hardly notice the blush spreading across your own face.

Your superior, still standing behind you with his arms folded and a bored expression on his face, clears his throat loudly. You take it as your sign to go on with him for the rest of your tour, but it’s like your feet are stuck in place, your eyes stuck on Oscar’s. A wave of regret washed over you.

Regret at not bothering to look at the social media accounts of the company you were applying to, because then you might’ve seen his face plastered all over them - although whether that would’ve changed your mind you’re less sure about.

Regret at not wearing a better-ironed top, or fixing your hair properly because now you’re standing here in front of him, and his stupidly perfect hair, feeling a little bit ridiculous.

But most of all, regret for not keeping up with him over the years, because then you might’ve been able to have a decent conversation instead of whatever this was.

Finally, you managed to uproot your feet and crane your neck just enough to catch sight of your superior disappearing around the corner.

“Well, I should probably get going.” You stuff your hands in the pockets of your pants and try your best to not move so damn awkwardly, but he just stands there and watches you.

“Right, well, I’ll uhm, see you around I guess?” You still can’t get over how low his voice is now. Even a lower voice isn’t enough to hide the familiarity of his cadence though, cool and casual as always.

You nod, already halfway down the corridor, mind racing with thoughts. But one whip of your head as you turn the corner tells you he’s looking back at you, mind racing all the same.

Your first day at McLaren was nearing its end, and you had yet to tell anyone about the things that had happened between you two - mostly because you were sure no one would care for the childhood drama between one of their main drivers and some lowly engineering student, but partially because you weren’t even sure how to describe it to anyone. Your superior had made his stance on it clear by not having mentioned it since the morning’s awkward hallway encounter, although you leaned towards him having simply forgotten it. That would’ve been the preferred choice too given your dual worry at the potential of this ‘situation’ getting in the way of you and your work experience.

Because if you were a car, and this job the road, then Oscar Piastri was a rock placed just precisely enough to send you hurtling into a sidewall.

He really hadn’t been kidding about seeing you around too. You had bumped into him a subsequent four (and yes, you had counted) times. He was always there, in his bright orange jacket - in board rooms, chatting with other engineers, making the most of complementary snacks in the office kitchen. And whenever the two of you crossed paths he would only flash that smile, warm, polite, but not much more, which you were always a little delayed in returning just because of how off guard it caught you every time. And when he wasn’t there in person, he was plastered across walls next to his teammate. Almost every screen, or wall, or company-issued mousepad you came across had his face, familiar grin and perfect hair, and you couldn’t help but feel - for lack of a better word - haunted. You had yet to get used to the lifesize cardboard cutouts of him and his teammate that stood guard by most of the main entrances too.

But you were determined, even when fate seemed to keep throwing you two together, weaving your paths across each other after years apart, not to let this distract you from what you were here to do. So it only seemed fitting, when you were packing up after your first day and about to head home, that your eyes locked with a familiar pair on your way out of the main exit.

“Hey,” Oscar starts this time, pausing for a second before adding, “Again.”

“You’re not stalking me or something, are you?” You say, pulling your backpack higher up on your shoulders solely for the sake of having something to do with your hands which you feel start to tremble. He laughs that damn laugh again, and your knees feel weak.

“If anything, I should be the one asking you that.” He gets to the door first but doesn’t walk through it, large hands coming up to hold it open instead. He motions for you to pass through first and you do, albeit a little tentatively. “Headed home for the day?”

“Yeah,” you say, hearing his shoes on the gravel as he jogs to catch up to you and you wait for a bit to let him before continuing. “Not looking forward to it though, I’m still figuring out the public transport here.”

This gets his attention, evidenced by how his neck whips around to look at you, eyebrows slightly raised. “You’re taking public transport here?” You try to make out the tone of his voice, which is a mix of shocked, concerned, and slightly impressed.

“Yeah?” You respond hesitantly. You scan his face for any sign of what his next words might be, hopefully, tips on how to figure out the train lines. But as he stuffs his hands in the pockets of his pants, letting out a shy laugh, nothing can prepare you for what they are.

“Do you uhm,” Even he’s unsure of what he’s about to say it seems, “Do you want a lift?”

At this, you feel your palms grow a little sweatier, your pace a little slower. For the second time that day, the boy in front of you has rendered you incoherent. Even so, your mouth seems to be working faster than your mind.

“I’d love that.” you hear yourself blurt out, to which he offers a grateful smile and begins to walk ahead of you, guiding you through the carpark.

Finally, your mind seems to catch up to the situation at hand and begins weighing it up. More so, weighing up all the things wrong with your decision. You haven’t seen Oscar in over a decade and right now you should be considered nothing more than colleagues, who had only met today. Getting into his car might not be the safest idea, both for your nerves and your position, since you knew how fast gossip spread. You’d be letting him know where you lived too.

But on the other hand, you didn’t know if you had the mental energy to stare at a map of the city. As you slipped into the passenger seat of Oscar’s car, offering him a smile of gratitude as he closed the door behind you, you were somewhat grateful for your fast mouth for once. Now, you just had to hope it would get you through the drive home.

He lets you put the address of your apartment into his GPS before starting up. “So, engineering huh?” comes Oscar’s voice as he pulls out of the carpark. You can sense the awkward hesitation in his voice but appreciate his effort at keeping the conversation going, even though you feel your palms sweating at it.

“Yeah, and uhm, for the record I had no say in being assigned to McLaren,” you say defiantly. “Plus, I didn’t even know you drove for them! Hell, I didn’t even know you still drove.” You’re rambling now, but whatever it takes to fill up the tense air in the car.

“Ouch, I’ll try not to take that too personally.”

“So do you want me to stalk you or not? You’re confusing me here Piastri.” He laughs, warm and smooth like honey. It’s been 12 years and it’s taken a coincidental work placement for you to realise this, but you’ve missed his laugh.

“Just saying, keeping in touch wouldn’t have hurt. Especially after what you said to me the night before I lef-”

“Anyways.” You cut him off stiffly because you know exactly what he’s going to say. He’s going to bring it up, your history, and you don’t exactly feel like digging it up - not now at least. Even so, he’s hitting you where it hurts and the worst part is you’re not sure if he’s aware he’s doing it at all, or whether he just wants to talk. Either way, you’re not going to let him.

“You’re liking it here?” He tries to start up conversation again, and you find yourself going along with it.

“Yeah, well I mean I’ve only been here a day so I can’t say much. But overall, I’m liking it. Everyone seems nice and I get a sense you guys have a real passion for what you do.” You turn to him as you speak, watching him nod at your words. With him watching the road it gives you a chance to take him in, how much he’s changed.

His face has sharpened out, the round cheeks you once knew have now given way to a defined jaw which you watch move as he speaks. Your eyes travel to his hands, large, gripping the steering wheel firmly as he turns a corner. It’s hard to believe that he’s the boy you knew all those years ago. However, as you watch his excited expression as he tells you about all the antics he and the team get up to you’re reminded of him once more. That passion, that spirit, that joy he had always had for racing was still there, and stronger than ever.

You think about those times, which seem so strangely distant now, when he would invite you to watch him race. How his face had lit up at the sight of you, and how quickly he would rush over to you after he won to gush about you being his ‘lucky charm’, helmet lines still imprinted on his flushed cheeks. How, even though neither of you were even in the same friend group, you always found yourself going along with him whenever you could - before and after school and even on weekends, when you found the time. How his passion for his sport, and the hours upon hours on which he had rambled to you about its logistics, was what first got you into engineering, which proved a passion of your own.

But most of all, how much you’ve missed about his life. And how you can’t bear to tell him the reason you haven’t kept up with him since the day he left is because it would hurt too much to. To watch the life he’s made for himself, perfectly fine without you.

Even so, you feel yourself smiling as you listen to him. And as weird as it sounds you feel yourself relax for what might just be the first time all day, sitting in his passenger seat.

But, fate has never been your friend, as you’re reminded once Oscar pulls into your street and your heart sinks a little knowing your little moment has come to an end. He parks, impressively easily, and you go to unbuckle your seatbelt before he speaks up again.

“Wait,” he stops you, before rummaging around in his pockets and pulling out a pen and a little notepad - you try not to laugh at him for the fact they’re both McLaren branded. You watch, confused, as he scribbles something down before handing it to you.

You unfold your hand to reveal a slip of paper with his number written on it, smiling at the fact he’s written his name too - as if you would ever forget it.

“Just in case, you know. If you ever need another lift,” he pockets the pen and paper, hand coming up to rub his nape shyly. He’s avoiding eye contact, it’s far too endearing, and your heart pace quickens. “Or, someone to talk to, about McLaren, that is.”

“Thanks, for the ride and this,” you say, gesturing to the paper as you open the car door. He nods in response, eyes watching you carefully. The biting cold hits your skin as you walk to your apartment door, he hasn’t left yet though, since you can still hear the car engine humming behind you.

You turn right before you get to the door, and see him saying something to you through the rolled-down window, though you can’t make it out from your distance.

“What?” you shout out into the night air.

“I said, see you tomorrow Pip,” he repeats, louder. The childhood nickname hits you harder than anything, and it takes a while to muster up a response.

“Right back at you, Oz.” You finally say, watching his face break into that familiar smile, only now it has shed its layers of politeness which have been replaced by sincerity, at the sound of his own nickname. At that, he rolls up his window and drives off, though you can make out the smile still on his face even as he turns the corner. You hardly notice the stupidly massive smile on your own face as you go to unlock your door, gripping the piece of paper in your hand tightly.

Work experience was shaping up to be a lot more exciting than you thought.

So he's got a lot of funny jokes he says he's like newbie like Kobe is on NCIS or like clay was on the hospital show and it's kind of fun because he's not really that new at it I just do it this end of it so he doesn't know what to do and what we are up to and when he can do so he calls us it says they want all these Hummers and trucks and transports and tanks and Bradley's I feel awkward we say this I feel awkward too so we decided something we need to know if they want to do with them and California is kind of a hot spot for that you drove by a caravan once in California it was 10 miles long and had 150,000 pieces of equipment and that's a lot my friends for something going through peacetime they drove right by I got sped up a little bit waved at the last one I thought it was so cool they almost had a heart attack. They need a lot more than that and we have an idea because he's chassis are no good for anything and is sitting around and there's tons of them okay I mean there's tons of these truck chassis and this trash is for bigger trucks and they need transports and it's more or less the same thing some reinforcing and is a slap on the military stuff and we have a plan for it and it's like we're going to be there too. We have Ford F-150 f250 F350 chassis and they're almost the same yes 350 is kind of already reinforced the other ones you just need to weld in a few pieces and we would then have in total about 350 octillion of them for they're moving ordinance around in the field out there and that's a lot and we have to be there and then there's the and we do have a special tires and all sorts of stuff and not made up they shouldn't take that one there's the Chevy Silverado no it cut it out. Now the numbering systems really close it's 1,500 but it actually means what it says I'm like Ford where 1500 lb so it says and then there's a 2000 and a 2500 so no I think it goes up to 2500 and it does and then there's a 3500 it's the same number designation but Ford doesn't have as high of a payload and it's really true and they want the Coleman and the Briggs & Stratton and their jeeps and they want to move around in them and we suddenly caught wind of something these are a military vehicle okay for military we have to have like a different package maybe the same chassis I don't know he said it's a fully welded chassis it's solid and there's a few differences and we beef it up and put accessories and that's normal and different type of tires and wheels it says perfect so it looks different it is different and the motors usually different that's where it goes you see what I'm saying and it's good but have a spine stuff so you're making fries and theirs so we're going to do that and we don't like your Mobile plant. What about that old airship it's the led Zeppelin you can make t-shirts and churros and pretzels and stuff have a big concert. It's not really like a stadium cuz those airships like spaceship looking and there's no room inside I think and people don't want to go in it but be great for like an outdoor concert and you just truck stuff back and forth you just water truck so it doesn't get dressed Dusty or whatever you are that's an awesome way to do it mac says solves problems our son says they do that in a field for a chiw it's a great idea being real food and drinks. Hovercraft stuff over you don't like it in Star wars they have these hovercrafts like flatbeds we saw that too it's a fun idea.

Okay so we have that and of the Chevys we have of all three and we have chassis and the body is useless and the engine is good and they're not outside believe it or not everything is ruined outside my dust and sand and particles and other and the motor is good enough you just have to add a couple things to make it heavy duty and they insist on having some fairings and so forth and make it look military they say it's going to be a full military body let me show you a picture of each in military format

It's about the same about 300 octillion and that's not total that's like per area and those trucks and stuff for sitting in bunkers but they're shallow ones it's like a huge parking garage and they're all over the place and their trucks and nobody's bought them and nobody's buying them because of the stupid electrical thing so it started issuing the trucks and cars and everyone wants one and now I understand that they didn't trust what it was so they kind of had to buy it and they bought it in the checking and by word of mouth is going around right now the orders are back up again and the refreshing their older orders it's like 300 octillion of everything ordered each area which is not that much but that's a lot for day one and today's the first day this song tomorrow be huge
