Originally we weren't able to get the van to idle, we'd have to keep a foot on the gas otherwise she'd choke out and stop. That was until, I backfired the engine and shot flame out the exhaust.
Now she's idling as she should as if there was never any problem >:v
And granted this is great but I did give myself a heart attack in the process

Tumblr media
The engine is the most important component in your vehicle that is responsible for generating the required power that helps in moving the vehicle. There is no doubt vehicle owners take all the steps to maintain their engine, however, despite best efforts issues in the functioning of the engine do crop up from time to time.
Among the various issues plaguing the engine of your car, there are 7 common engine problems that are common across all the brands. Here are the 7 car engine problems that you should tackle immediately shared with us by the experts in Norcross.
Starting Issues
Overheating Engine
Engine Stalling
Coolant Loss
Smoke From The Engine
Unusual Sounds
Misfiring Engine
Starting Issues
One of the problems related to the engine that is faced by all car drivers at some point in their lives is related to the starting of the vehicle. The starting mechanism of your car is very complicated and there are a host of components related to the engine of your car and whenever one of these components fails it can cause starting issues.
Moreover, when facing starting issues in your vehicle, you will also hear a clicking sound coming from your engine but it fails to crank. This is mostly caused due to fuel or ignition issues in your car and it needs to be addressed immediately without any delay because it has the potential to severely damage the engine.
Overheating Engine
Another common problem found in most of the cars is related to the overheating of the engine when the car is running. The engine is required to remain at optimal temperature for its efficient functioning and if the temperature increases beyond a threshold then it can lead to serious damage to the engine due to overheating.
The overheating of the engine can be caused by various factors from inadequate engine oil to improper circulation of the coolant throughout the engine all these can cause the temperature to rise in the engine. There will be moments when you will observe that the temperature gauge starts to rise and this indicates overheating of the engine.
You must take your car to a certified repair shop where experienced mechanics can use advanced tools to diagnose what is wrong with your car and then take remedial measures to address the problem.
Engine Stalling
Well, stalling is a very common problem associated with the engine of most cars and this is a very peculiar problem where your car will stop suddenly in the middle of the road when you are driving. This is a very dangerous issue because it can lead to accidents as the car coming from behind can collide with you.
There are several factors that can cause the engine to stall when you are driving like issues with the fuel line, clogged fuel filter, and failed spark plugs that can cause the engine to stall any time.
Coolant Loss
The coolant is one of the most important fluids in your vehicle that is responsible for preventing the engine from overheating. The proper circulation of coolant captures the heat from the engine and this lets the engine function within the optimal temperature range.
Now, for the smooth running and better performance of your car, the coolant needs to be present in adequate levels in your vehicle. However, often it is observed that inadequate levels of coolant in the engine is related to the coolant leaks from the engine that need to be addressed to prevent the engine from overheating.
Smoke from the Engine
Often it is seen that drivers complain of the emergence of smoke from the engine of their car while driving. Now, this is considered a serious issue by most mechanics & is also related to your safety because there is a high risk of your car catching fire.
There are a host of seals and gaskets present in your engine whose failure leads to the contact between hot engine components and engine oil or coolant that leads to the production of smoke.
Unusual Sounds
Generally, when driving your car, you are seldom going to hear anything unusual coming from under the hood of your vehicle other than the roar of the engine. However, when the engine is plagued with issues then you will get to hear a knocking noise coming from under the hood of your car.
Along with the knocking sounds, you will also experience vibrations in your car while driving and these indicate issues with the components of the engine that need to be addressed quickly.
Misfiring Engine
Well, the list cannot be completed without taking into account engine misfires that the majority of drivers face while driving their vehicles. The misfiring engine is actually a symptom of an underlying issue in your engine like worn-out spark plugs that can destabilize the functioning of the engine.
Most of the time replacing the worn-out spark plugs would help you resolve engine misfires in your car.
Finally
The above-discussed factors are some of the most common problems that are related to the engine of your car. Most of the time people tend to ignore these problems which often leads to serious issues with the engine. The moment you notice these signs you need to get in touch with a certified mechanic to address the problems.

Car engines need an unobstructed inflow of fresh oxygen. The air filter prevents dust, dirt, sand, insects, and other debris from coming into the engine along with the air. But over time, car air filters become clogged up and can start to restrict the inflow of oxygen, which can lead to engine problems. Here are a few signs that you might need to replace your air filter soon at your local Ford dealer, Hutch Ford.
