a/n: gonna apologize for this one, it really just turned into exhausted cg!em falling asleep in readers bed 😭

Emily sighs, brushing her fingers over your forehead to move some of your hair. It’s an hour past the set bedtime you have, two cups of water, a trip out to the car for a left behind toy, and two extra bedtime stories later, Emily looks exhausted.

Your chest twinges with guilt, you hadn’t meant to wear your caregiver out, you just wanted to stay up late like she does. You can always hear her typing on her computer or talking about work on the phone when you wake in the middle of the night, you were just curious about what she gets up to.

“Finally ready for bed darling?” Emily’s head tips to the side with a tired smile, you are ready for bed, this is the latest you’ve stayed up in what feels like years, but you’ve still yet to learn what Emily does all night.

“How come you always stay up so late?” Her eyebrows raise in surprise, you haven’t outright asked about it and assumed you’d just see for yourself but apparently a more straightforward question is the only way to get answers.

“What do you mean sweetie?” Emily’s hands tuck the blankets snuggly around you, making sure your stuffed animals don’t get covered by the thick material.

“I hear you, you’re always doing stuff at night.” Her lips tuck into themselves as she nods shortly.

“I stay up a bit later than you do so I can finish up things for work, but that doesn’t mean I don’t sleep.” She assures, running her hand through your hair again, it’s relaxing and you can’t help but lean into it.

“But shouldn’t you go to bed earlier, that’s what you tell me. You say things can wait til tomorrow and sleep is more important.” You’ve heard it so many times it’s practically impossible to forget.

“I do say that don’t I? Well, maybe I’ll just have to take my own advice.” She throws her legs up onto your bed, looping an arm around you as she pulls you in close to her side.

“Em?” You question after a few moments of silence, straining your neck upwards to see that Emily’s fast asleep.

There’s nothing else to do so you cuddle into her, throwing an extra blanket over her legs the best you can. You make a small mental note that staying up really isn’t all that fun, and that you should probably get Prentiss to go to sleep earlier.

also little Lute after Adam’s death

Oh absolutely!

Lute regressed immediately after returning to Heaven. Her Little side felt freed, but her big side felt distraught.

She had so many big emotions, she couldn't handle them all on her own. She went to Sera, as she had no one else to go to.

Sera took her in gladly, letting her know that everything was going to be ok.

For the first time, Lute had a proper Caregiver.

While Sera didn't spoil her, she did make sure her needs were cared for. To Lute, this felt liks spoiling.

Lute cried when she got her first piece of Little gear from Sera.

Lute and Emily are also growing closer, even if Lute is still a little rough around the edges in Littlespace.

Lute gets frustrated, as she's never regressed this young or often, nor been this sensitive, but Sera and Emily reassure her constantly that it's ok.

Love ~ Little Jennifer Jareau x Caregivers Hotchniss

“Pumpkin can you take one bite?” Aaron tries holding out a fork full of pasta to JJ, sighing when the girl shakes her head huffing.

“Has she eaten anything?” Emily asks coming over as JJ tries to grab her.

“No.” Aaron sighs looking at the young girl.

“Baby girl aren’t you hungry? Dada made your favorite.” Emily tries settling the blonde onto her hip. JJ shakes her head sliding her thumb into her mouth.

“No baby, no thumbs they are yucky,” Aaron states softly trading the girl's thumb for her light pink pacifier.

“I’m going to go put her down for her nap.” Emily states as JJ lays her head on Emily’s shoulder. Aaron nods starting to clean up as the girls make their way to JJ’s bedroom and nursery.

“Alright sweetie, let’s change into our nap clothes and get settled,” Emily states in a whisper grabbing out the girl's wool set.

“Mama up.” JJ whines. The young girl didn’t like that her mama had put her down.

“In a minute baby girl, I have to get your PJs and pacy.” Emily states as JJ whines starting to tear up. Emily sighs setting down everything before picking up the girl.

“Baby, we need to get you changed for a nap.” She tells the blonde. JJ squirms in the woman’s arms not wanting to go down for a nap.

“JJ doesn’t do that, you can fall,” Emily warns softly.

“No nap!” JJ cries pushing away from her caregiver.

“Jennifer don’t be naughty, you know it’s nap time,” Emily states firmer. While the blonde was usually well-behaved for her caregivers, there are times she’s stubborn and refuses to listen.

“Meanie,” JJ shouts hitting Emily.

“Aaron can you come get her and put her in timeout,” Emily calls as JJ starts to cry.

“No mama!” JJ screams as Aaron comes into the room.

“What happened?” He asks taking the girl as she fights against his grip.

“She’s refusing to go down and started hitting.” Emily sighs.

“Alright, Jennifer five minutes in timeout and then it is nap time, no arguments young lady, or there are no cartoons tonight,” Aaron states firmly setting the blonde into the timeout chair in her bedroom.

“Don’t want!” JJ screams kicking.

“Jennifer, do you want more time added?” Aaron scolds. JJ shakes her head crying.

“Then stop kicking young lady.” He states staring at her. JJ huffs crossing her arms but stops kicking. The two caregivers watch the girl until the timer goes off. The girl had luckily tired herself out from crying and fighting her caregivers.

“Come on baby, let's change and lay down,” Emily states lifting the girl. JJ curls into her accepting the pacifier Emily held out for her. Emily gets the girl settled and tucked into her bed deciding to stay with her until she falls asleep.

“Have a good nap baby girl. I love you.” Aaron whispered kissing the girl's head.

“I’ll be out once she’s asleep.” Emily states

to Aaron pulling the girl to her side. He nods before heading back to the living room to finish cleaning up the arts and crafts the little girl was doing earlier. The two caregivers have planned to take the girl to the park tomorrow along with the rest of the team. JJ when regressed loves to play soccer with Morgan and her dada and mama. Hotch finishes cleaning up and organizing the girl's toys as Emily walks in.

“She’s asleep,” Emily states pouring herself a glass of wine. The two caregivers had a rule not to drink around the girl when she was regressed. It had happened once and ended with JJ sneaking into it and spilling the wine all over the floor.

“What do you want to have for dinner tonight?”

“Maybe just chicken tenders and mashed potatoes so hopefully Jen eats.” Emily states as Hotch sits down next to her.

“Okay. I was thinking of putting her down earlier tonight. She seems to be a little cranky today.” Hotch adds. Emily nods as the two fall into silence watching the news. About an hour goes by before the young girl waddles out and climbs and curls up between her caregivers.

“Dada,” JJ mumbles poking Aaron in the face with her pacifier.

“What is it, baby girl?” He asks smiling down at her.

“Play?” JJ asks looking up innocently.

“Yeah, baby. What do you want to play?”

“Dolls,” JJ states confidently pushing off the couch to get her dolls. Emily and Aaron chuckle at the girl's assertiveness.

“I’m going to start dinner,” Emily states letting Aaron alone to play with JJ.

“Dada you Fin!” JJ states pushing the doll into Aaron’s face. He chuckles nodding his head as JJ sits down in front of him with multiple dolls and accessories. Aaron would never believe to have a little girl when he joined the BAU but the girl was his whole world now. The two continue to play until Emily calls that dinner is ready. JJ races into the dining room leaving Hotch.

“Mama, mama!” JJ shouts making grabby hands.

“Alright, pumpkin up you go.” Emily smiles putting the girl in her booster seat. Emily gets JJ’s plate made as Hotch comes in.

“Pumpkin get started on eating.” Emily states as she and Aaron sit down. The three start to eat as the two caregivers try to keep JJ as clean as they can with her getting mashed potatoes everywhere.

“Okay, you are definitely getting a bath tonight baby girl.” Aaron chuckles. JJ shakes her head.

“Yes, baby girl. What if we add bubbles?” He tries.

“Yay!” JJ cheers. The little girl loves bubble baths, especially when in her toddler age range.

“Okay sweet girl but you need to finish eating love,” Emily states seeing the girl barely had gotten any food actually in her mouth.

“Not hungry.” JJ tries. The two sighs as JJ plays with the potatoes.

“JJ is there something wrong?” Aaron asks softly. There was something wrong with the little. JJ shakes her head sticking her thumb in her mouth and ignoring them.

“JJ if you don’t eat, we have to do a bottle,” Aaron states warningly. JJ ignores them as Emily and Aaron sigh.

“I’ll go make one. Do you want to get her into the bath so she can go to bed?” Emily asks softly.

“Yeah,” Hotch states picking up the girl.

“Baby no thumb remember? We’ll grab a pacy.” Hotch states taking the girl's hand as he makes the way to her bathroom.

“Dada.” JJ whines as exhaustion started to take over her little mind.

“Shh, it’s okay baby girl. Let’s bathe while mama is making your bottle then we can go to bed.” Hotch shushes. He knew the girl was on the verge of a meltdown and was hoping to get her asleep before it came. He gets the girl into the water after getting a lukewarm bubble bath running. He made quick work of bathing her then blow-drying her hair and dressing her. He gets settled into the rocking chair with JJ in his lap as Emily comes in with the bottle.

“Here you go.” She states handing it to Aaron before stroking the blonde’s hair. Luckily JJ takes the bottle easily for the two falling asleep as she finishes it. Hotch softly tucks her into bed before turning on the nightlight as the two caregivers head to the living room.

“I have a feeling she’s going to wake up younger so we’re going to have to cancel on the team,” Aaron notes.

“I know. I’m just hoping she’s not as cranky tomorrow. I think this past case really affected her and she’s not processing it. I’m hoping we don’t get another case until she’s better.” Emily states feeling bad for the blonde.

“If we do, she’ll stay here with Penelope,” Aaron states softly as the two turns on a movie.

“Dada,” JJ shouts waking up Hotch. He glances at the baby monitor seeing the girl stumbling to get out of her bed before seeing the time being six in the morning. Emily was still asleep next to him so he quietly makes his way to JJ.

“Hey, pumpkin.” He smiles as the girl flings herself onto him as he reaches her.

“Dada dada dada.” JJ rambles. Hotch can easily tell the girl has regressed even more,

“Let’s get you changed and then go get started on breakfast. Mama’s still asleep.” Aaron smiles grabbing the girl before a pair of comfy sweats for her.

“Mama?” JJ asks cocking her head at Hotch.

“She’ll be up soon baby girl.” Hotch smiles dressing the girl for the day.

“Now.” JJ whines as Hotch guides them downstairs.

“Baby she’s asleep. Why don’t we watch cartoons and make banana pancakes?” Aaron states setting the girl down on the counter.

“Cakes?” JJ as blonde hair falls into her eyes.

“Yeah, baby.” Hotch smiles pushing it back.

“Do you want to help dada or watch cartoons?” He asks smiling down at the girl.

“Toons.” JJ cheers.

“Alright pumpkin. Let’s get settled on the couch. You want to bring Maxy?” Aaron asks picking up the girl and seeing the stuffed dog that he had gotten for the little girl a few years back on the counter. JJ has plenty of stuffed animals but Maxy was the one that went everywhere with her. JJ nods making grabby hands.

“Here you go, baby girl.” Aaron smiles giving the girl the stuffed dog. He carries the girl to the couch turning on the tv to Mickey Mouse.

“I’m going to go start breakfast baby. Stay here.” Aaron smiles tucking the girl in with her blue blanket. He heads back to the kitchen starting the banana pancakes before hearing Emily coming in.

“Where’s J?” She asks.

“Living room watching Mickey Mouse.” He states.

“How is she?” Emily asks getting coffee.

“She’s roughly a year I think. She’s been pretty quiet this morning but was wanting you.” He states.

“I’ll go to her.” Emily smiles heading to the living room.

“Mama!” JJ yells seeing Emily come in.

“Hey, pumpkin.” Emily smiles taking the girl into her arms.

“Toons!” JJ cheers. Emily smiles.

“I see. I also see you have Maxy.” Emily smiles sitting down on the couch with the girl.

“Hmh.” JJ smiles pushing the dog into Emily’s face.

“Breakfast is ready!” Aaron yells from the kitchen.

“Come on pumpkin, let’s go have pancakes.” Emily bringing them into the kitchen. The three get through breakfast pretty easily before spending the rest of the day snuggled up on the couch watching Disney movies.

Hotch sighs as he hears a door slam.

“I’m guessing she’s not in a better mood?” Emily asks walking into the house.

“Nope,” Aaron states feeling frustrated with the teenage regressed JJ. While he loved his girl, when she was in her teenage mindset, he wants to rip his hair out.

“I’ll go talk to her in a few. Hopefully, some alone time will calm her down.” Emily states hoping her last statement is true. Emily understood the girl's feelings but also felt Hotch’s frustration with the girl not behaving. The two sigh as they hear another door slam before stomping and coming downstairs. JJ tries to make her way to the front door but Hotch stops her.

“Where do you think you’re going?”

“Out.” JJ snaps.

“No, you aren’t unless you want to be in trouble.” He states sternly.

“Don’t care.” JJ snaps slamming the front open and walking out but freezing at Emily’s voice.

“Jennifer Anne Jareau gets back in here now,” Emily demands starting to lose her patience.

“What if I don’t?” JJ shoots back. Emily takes a deep breath before answering.

“You will be on punishment, no seeing the team or movie and game nights. You will be in your room.” Emily snaps back raising her eyebrow at the blonde. JJ stares at her before storming back into the house.

“I hate you both, just so you know.” She yells before storming back up the stairs.

“Oh wow, she’s in a real mood.” Emily sighs.

“She’s been like this all day,” Hotch states pinching his nose.

“Can I say that I miss toddler JJ?” Emily laughs but means it.

“Oh trust me, I do too.” Aaron chuckles.

“Do you want to see if the team wants to come here for family dinner tonight instead of Rossi’s? I don’t want to reward JJ by thinking going over here, is her off the hook.” Emily states.

“Yeah. I’ll call everyone.”

“Also I’m making her come down here. It’s not really a punishment for her being stuck in her room when it’s clear she wants to be.” Emily states standing up to go grab the blonde.

“You need to come downstairs. We’re doing a family dinner with the team here tonight.” Emily states opening the girl’s bedroom door.

“Why?!” JJ groans.

“Because I said so and because you don’t deserve to go to uncle Rossi’s but it’s not fair to the team for us to cancel,” Emily states sternly.

“I don’t want to,” JJ states not moving from her bed. Emily takes a deep breath before closing the door.

“What is going on with this attitude? You know it’s unacceptable and you’re being disrespectful.” Emily states staring at the girl.

“It doesn’t matter,” JJ mumbles messing with her stuffed dog.

“Yes, it does young lady. Now I expect a proper answer.”

“I just want to be left alone! I feel so stupid being like this and you aren’t helping!” JJ snaps finally letting herself break.

“J what do you mean?” Emily asks truly surprised.

“I shouldn’t be like this. It’s not normal.” JJ snaps frustrated.

“JJ you know that’s not true….”

“Yes, it is! You don’t get it!” JJ yells before they hear Hotch holler up the stairs.

“The teams here!”

“We’re finishing this conversation later.” Emily states before they head down.

“Did we do something wrong or…” Penelope asks as the team sits in silence after hearing JJ slam a door upstairs.

“No, you didn’t. She’s been like this all day.” Hotch sighs.

“She’s feeling insecure about regressing I think. We didn’t get to finish our talk but I told her we would later tonight.” Emily cuts in.

“Aw poor gumdrop. We all love little JJ.” Penelope states feeling sad for the other blonde.

“Why don’t we all head out and let you two talk to her,” Rossi states to the team. The two caregivers wait a few minutes before heading upstairs.

“I’ll let you talk to her alone for a minute.” Hotch states as Emily nods as she heads to JJ’s room.

“Do you actually want to talk now?” She asks sternly walking in before closing the door. The blonde was sitting in her swing with a book.

“Do I even have a choice?” JJ grumbles not looking up.

“No, not with this and eyes,” Emily warns. JJ looks up angrily.

“Why are you feeling bad about everything?” Emily asks sitting down on the blonde desk.

“It’s stupid.” JJ mumbles.

“We already talked about this and I told you that it’s not.”

“And I told you that it doesn’t change how I feel!”

“Jennifer…”

“No just stop!” JJ yells starting to cry.

“Baby girl.” Emily tries knowing getting the girl more regressed is the only way to get her to relax.

“Emily stop.” JJ whines but Emily instead reaches the blonde and pulls her into her arms. JJ tries to fight but Emily is stronger.

“Shh, it’s okay baby girl. Mama is right here.” Emily comforts as the blonde slowly relaxes.

“Sorry. J bad, shouldn’t deal.” JJ mumbles sticking her thumb in her mouth.

“Baby no thumb and you have nothing to be sorry for. Why would you think that?” Emily asks taking the girl’s hand and trading it for a pacifier.

“Been bad.” JJ tears up as Hotch enters the room.

“Pumpkin while you can be naughty sometimes, we absolutely love you and that won’t change,” Hotch states bending down to reach her eyes. JJ looks at him with teary eyes.

“No more tears baby girl.” He states softly wiping the tears. JJ makes grabby hands to him as he smiles pulling her into his arms.

“Dada is right here pumpkin.” He whispers rocking her and looking at Emily.

“Tired.” JJ whines clutching his shirt.

“Let’s get settled into bed baby girl.” Hotch smiles standing up to reach the girl’s bed.

“Dada story?” JJ mumbles fighting to keep her eyes open.

“Of course baby.” He smiles as Emily pulls JJ into her arms as Aaron gets settled next to them.

“Dada stay.” JJ whines as the two caregivers try to leave after the story.

“I’ll clean up.” Emily states as Aaron nods settling down on his daughter’s bed and the blonde leans into him.

“Love u dada,” JJ mumbles as Aaron smiles.

“I love you to pumpkin.” He whispers sighing content with his little girl in his arms.

Their house is actually a decent size and has a pretty big backyard, they bought something away from the road so they’d have all the privacy they could need

This means Hotch definitely buys a blow up pool for Jj to splash around in and Emily to dip her feet in

Jj loves the water. Baths, pools, ponds, oceans, she’d spend hours upon hours in it all if she could

It leads to a lot of summer days in the backyard where Emily’s reapplying sunblock every fifteen minutes, she sets a timer, and Hotch is making sure that Jj & Em stay hydrated in the sun

But there are times where Jj’s sensory issues kick in and she doesn’t want anything to do with the heat

They keep the Ac pretty high in the house anyways but sometimes Emily will crank it if Jj’s really uncomfortable

When Jj’s home and doesn’t have to worry about being professional she loves to stim

She has quite a few vocal ones — humming, clicking her tongue, echoing things she hears on the Tv, popping her lips

They can get pretty loud at times but Emily and Hotch have become accustomed to it so they don’t mind

She also has some other stims — flapping her hands is a big one, spinning around and bouncing on her feet are also common

The one she does the most is rocking. It could be as they sit on the couch, when she’s standing, really any space that’ll allow her to move side to side or back and forth

When she’s regressed to a younger headspace Emily and Hotch will hold her on their hip and rock in place with her to calm her down

Overall she’s not a very fussy little, but there’s certain things that get tricky

She hates the taste of peppermint so Hotch bought a tube of kids toothpaste and she uses that, Emily is usually the one actually brushing her teeth

Brushing her teeth isn’t really the issue, it’s more the action of doing it. She struggles to get to all her teeth when she’s regressed

And when she’s big she’d rather just have Prentiss do it for her anyways. She also uses a kids toothbrush as the bristles are softer and are less likely to scratch her gums - which is sensory hell for Jj

Most food she eats is also kid food, she has a sensitive stomach anyways so plain food that her caregivers prepare is always preferred to anything bought

Hotch makes little bags of trail mix for Jj, it isnt a traditional trail mix by any means but it has the things Jj likes

Emily does most of the cooking in the house and will make a separate portion without all the seasoning for Jj, she also keeps premade meals in the freezer incase they try something new and Jj doesn’t like it

Both caregivers are very understanding when it comes to Jj’s issues with food and always have snacks on hand to accommodate

They buy kids plates, utensils and cups too

There are nice “adult” plates and silverware but it stays tucked in a cabinet with a child lock unless someone is coming over for dinner

Emily and Hotch get very protective about who comes over to the house, it’s a safe space for all three of them and is very obviously catered to their caregiver & little lifestyle so having someone random in the house is avoided at all costs

Of course the team is welcomed but Jj likes to clean up before they come over

She’ll go around and hide toys, pacifiers, bottles, etc. as she still gets insecure about her regression

Hotch and Emily both do their best to assure Jj that it’s okay and that the team knows but she insists on hiding her more “baby” items in fear of judgement

Jjs mother is not allowed at the house under any circumstances.

Hotch and Emily found out pretty quickly that her mother only ever causes Jj stress and upsets her, just the idea of her at the house is enough to send all three of them spiraling

Jj doesn’t talk much about her childhood in general but when she’s regressed she absolutely refuses

She’ll shutdown at even the mention of it

When she does get upset she gets very quiet and can go non-verbal, she’ll mostly communicate through humming/pointing and occasionally writing things down

Her ears get sensitive at times so there’s pairs of sound proof headphones scattered around the house

Emily and Hotch have bought all the types. From ear plugs to industrial headphones

Jj cycles through them all depending on how bad her sensory issues are

A lot of the time she’ll have ear plugs that block out background noise in, they aren’t noticeable and she’s still able to listen to the Tv or to Hotch & Emily talk

There are rare times where Jj doesn’t want to hear anything at all, that’s where the industrial headphones come in

It had started with Hotch & Emily noticing that Jj would plug her ears with her fingers and eventually grew to their extensive headphone collection

She likes to build forts and curl up in them with Hotch or Em

Most times it’s Hotch pulled down with her while they make Emily guess a password (spoiler alert she never gets it right)

Jj climbs into Emily & Hotchs bed in the morning almost every morning, assuming she didn’t sleep in-between them

She always brings at least one stuffie with her and makes sure Emily & Hotch both say good morning to it

There’s many pictures on Hotchs phone of Emily and Jj in these moments, curled up together, in the midst of laughing, Aaron loves the early morning time they all get together

Emily’s phone is filled with mid-day pictures from the places they go and activities they do, Hotch takes pictures of this too but not nearly as many as Prentiss

Technically Jj takes pictures too but most are blurry or of her and Emily making faces at Hotch while he’s turned around (he always knows)
