summary: you’ve long since given up on hoping for a better future, but steve’s there to remind you that there’s still something left living for. and you grow to realize that maybe, just maybe, that something was him.

warnings: angsty in the beginning, mild descriptions of blood, fluff in the end, cliche tropes, bad writing. post IW–pre endgame AU, some dialogue is from endgame; i don’t own any part of it. credits go to marvel.

a/n: yeesh this is a complete dumpster fire. i have no idea where this idea came from but i just sat down and decided to start writing, so here we are. buckle up and i hope you enjoy this (unedited) shitshow :3 friendly reminder that requests are open!

Amidst the aftermath of the Snap’s destruction, things were a complete mess. You found it hard to do so much as get up in the morning when the world had stopped moving forward—what was the point of waiting up for something that wouldn’t go on?

There were many nights in which you slid into bed and hoped you’d never wake up again and yet, you did wake up—in the early hours of the morning. And despite it all, you kept going. You kept going, you pushed yourself to make it through the day because you knew that nobody else would do it for you.

You hardly ever got any quality sleep. If you were lucky, you’d get a solid two or three uninterrupted hours, and five was unheard of. You were falling—and Steve, being as observant as he was, noticed.

He noticed how you’d lost the light to your face. You no longer glowed like you used to when you were fully engaged in a conversation. Your smile, that is, if you smiled at all, never reached your eyes. It was rather easy for him to differentiate a fake one from a real one—and he could tell you were struggling to maintain the façade.

Steve felt guilty. Here you were, doing everything you could to stay afloat and pouring your heart and soul into keeping everyone else on the team happy and healthy, but you never found time to take care of yourself. He wanted to help. Seeing the woman he’d known for as long as he could remember slowly fall apart broke him—and the fact that there was little to nothing he could do about it only made it worse.

It was another one of those late nights for you. Natasha had tried to talk you out of helping her, but the pure exhaustion in her eyes was evident—so you’d convinced her to go to bed (you knew she hadn’t done this in days) and took over.

Rhodey had a solemn look on his face as you pulled up his hologram. “Hey, Y/N...where’s Nat? Are you guys alright?”

"Yeah...how about you? Where are you right now?"

"Mexico. The Federales found a room full of bodies," he answered with his arms crossed over his chest, "it looks like a bunch of cartel guys...never even had the chance to get their guns off."

"It's probably a rival gang, then," you shrugged.

"Except it isn't. It's definitely Barton. What he's done here, what he's been doing for the past few years...the scene that he left...I gotta tell you, there's a part of me that doesn't even wanna find him."

You were silent for a moment as you comprehended his words. "Will you find out where he's going next, check in when you hear something?” You looked at him hopefully. “Please? We can’t just...we can’t just give up now.”

"Alright, I'll let you know," he said with a sigh, before disappearing from the room.

Your gut instinct was to call Steve, but before you could find your hand on your phone, you pulled it back. He was probably busy at the moment—you didn’t want to burden him any further when he already had enough on his mind.

Placing your hands on the edges of the desk, you pushed yourself out of your seat and got up. You grabbed a glass out of the pantry and decided to pour yourself a cup of cold water to clear your head, ignoring the sharp hunger pangs in your stomach that told you it really had been forever since you’d last had a proper meal that wasn’t three cups of coffee and half a banana. And that had been four days ago.

You were often too busy drowning in your own thoughts to focus on anything else.

Out of nowhere you’re hit with a splitting migraine that has you struggling to stay standing upright and suddenly the world is spinning and everything is blurring together you can’t breathe. As if it was going in slow motion, the glass fell out of your hand and shattered into a million tiny crystalline fragments upon hitting the floor, and you sank down with it.

You felt the sharp edges digging into the palms of your hands and the bottoms of your feet and it stung, but compared to what you’d been through in the past, it was nothing. The metallic smell of blood overwhelmed your senses. The tears kept coming and coming and your head was hurting, your body ached immensely—everything hurt.

Steve quietly entered the compound and immediately stopped in his tracks when he reached the kitchen.

“...Y/N?”

You tried opening your mouth to speak, but no words came out—instead, a hoarse cry escaped your lips—and the sound sent daggers straight through his heart. There’s crimson stains on your shirt and on the kitchen floor; you’re covered in blood and sweat and tears and there’s glass everywhere. It’s a complete mess, but he doesn’t care.

Disregarding the complete kitchen disaster around him, he carefully kneels down next to you and pulls you forward, and you collapse into his arms.

He doesn’t say anything. Doesn’t say a thing as you let it all out. Your tears begin leaving dark spots on his shirt but he remains quiet. He’s dead silent. Steve brings a hand to the back of your head and gently pushes it towards his chest, and you continue sobbing into his shoulder as he smooths your hair back and uses his other arm to pull you closer.

You clutch his shirt with every ounce of energy you have left. You cry and cry and cry until you feel like your throat is going to tear apart from the sheer force of it and your seemingly never-ending river of tears has finally run dry. You’re not sure exactly how long you’re like this for—sitting in the middle of the cold kitchen floor, wrapped up in his arms and clinging to him as if he was your sole remaining lifeline—but you’re there for a while. And he’s patient, whispering soothing words of encouragement and sweet nothings into your ear to calm you down.

“It’s okay, I’m here. I’m not going anywhere.”

...

You’re quietly sitting on the edge of the bathtub as Steve is kneeling in front of you and picking the glass out of your skin. He winces when he thinks he’s being too rough, but you don’t even do so much as flinch.

He dips a cotton boll into the small bowl of alcohol on the counter, starting to gently dab on the cuts scattered across your knuckles and cheeks. Steve wants to ask why you were in such a state when he found you, but he knows better than to pry. He knows that before anything else, he’s supposed to be there for you—to listen.

“I miss them,” you mumbled.

“I know. I miss them too.”

You glanced up at him with glassy eyes, and his heart shatters all over again. “Do you think we could get them back?"

“Of course. There’s always hope.”

“...You really think so?”

“Ever since you came into my life, I never stopped. Hoping, that is.” Steve cleared his throat. “If we can find a reason to keep going, then I don’t see why we can’t achieve anything we want.”

You cracked a small smile at his words, and he reached up and gingerly wiped away the remnants of your tears. When his hand finds its place against your cheek, you place your own hand over it—and let it stay.

You were ready to go. You were planning to leave for good, but seeing his piercing yet gentle blue eyes and breathtaking smile pushed you to stay. If you couldn’t keep going for yourself, you had to at least do it for him.

And so you did.

tom collapsed on the bed next to you, hot and heavy breaths falling from his mouth. you bit your lip and smiled, turning on your side to face him, kissing his nose gently. his face scrunched up cutely, smiling as you nudged your nose with his.

“i love you, baby, i’m sorry,” he pouted, planting a sweet kiss on your lips.

“you said that like.. seven times, tommy,” you giggled.

toms face began to turn red at your bluntness, and you laughed loudly, kissing him one more time before hopping out of the now dirty sheets. when you reached the doorframe of your ensuite bathroom, you looked at him expectantly, reaching a hand out before saying, “you comin?” with a slight smirk. his eyes widened, and he jumped from his place off the bed as well, retreating to your side.

“tommyyyy!” you called, skipping over to tom, grabbing an apple from the counter on your way to him.

“hi darling, whats wrong?” tom said, smiling widely at you, grabbing your waist and pulling you onto his lap, peppering your cheeks and neck with kisses.

“okay, so you know how ariana and i co write some of her songs for her albums and shit?” you asked, hearing how he hummed, his face still buried in your neck.

“well, i woke up with my legs shaking and sore, so i got an idea for a song, i went over to her house earlier, and we finished it up. wanna hear the demo? she let me sing it to get a feel of how it’ll sound.” you finished, standing up from your seat in toms lap. he looked at you with a flushed face, and you looked at him back with an annoyed one.

“well bitch, are you gonna get up or not? goddamn.” you said, tom muttering under his breath about how bossy you were. you walked over to the room in your shared house that you had for your recording and songwriting things. you walked over to the monitors in front of the big window in your room, logging in and going to a file named track seven.mp3, not having a name for the rather risque song. you had your own separate room in your house and tom had his office, and in your room was where you spent most of your time, ariana going to your house more often than any other of your friends.

you got up and let him sit in the big leather rolly chair, taking your seat in his lap again. you wrapped one of your arms around his neck, connecting the computer to your speakers, the almost bell sound filling your ears.

your yells filled the house, toms voice getting louder, trying to get over yours. you began walking toward him, still yelling, your voice becoming hoarse. he looked at you, still talking about the dumb shit you two were fighting about.

“i fuckin’ hate you, you know.” you scowled, looking at him with your eyes 5 shades darker with lust.

“yeah, the feeling’s mutual, y/n.” he scoffed back at you, grabbing your throat lightly, bringing your face to level to his, before closing the gap between you two aggressively.

a moan fell from the back of your throat, breaking your facade, making you groan internally.

“what was that? you said you hated me, princess? am i wrong?” he grinned, knowing he won.

“yeah, i hate you. fuck you.” he gripped your neck once more, his hold only getting slightly tighter.

“watch your tone, angel. dont want you getting in trouble now, do we?” tom growled, his other hand going to your ass, squeezing it tightly.

“want me to watch my tone? make me.”

you shaked your head, ridding the memory from your mind like an etch-a-sketch. you looked over to him, seeing him listening intently. you’d gotten so lost in your thoughts, that you didn’t realize that the track was almost done.

the track ended, and you looked over to tom expectantly, biting your lip in anticipation. “soooo?”

“absolutely not.”

“what? why not?” you jumped out of his lap, your face contorted in anger (soon to be replaced with pleasure).

“i’m not letting you talk about our sex life in a song- let alone ariana’s!” he yelled, kicking the chair from under him.

“but you let me put successful out? that deadass has our moans in and at the end of the song, dumbass.” you looked at him with a confused look, as if saying ‘you are being irrational, calm down’.

“wHAT? Y/N!” tom screamed, running his hands through his hair, not seeing the way you bit your lip when he screamed your name.

“so you don’t want me to put out the song. what if i… convinced you?” you grinned, walking toward him.

“oh yeah? and how might that be?”

“i got a couple of ideas.”

your eyes shut as stars began to fill your vision, your lips agape with pants coming out of them, trying to catch your breath. tom gripped your hip, his figure stilling. you reached down to him, kissing his lips softly. you chuckled at the situation that you guys were in. ‘sex because he wouldn’t let you release a song about having sex.’. you hugged his neck, peppering his face in kisses. you pulled your hairtie back from his wrist, snapping it onto your own wrist.

you swung your leg off of his hip, collapsing next to tom, pushing your messy hair up into a messy bun, the tangles from toms fingers making it harder. you grabbed your phone from the night stand, stretching and cracking your fingers from gripping the sheets tightly.

Instructions for the writing challenge:-

You don't need to be following me, but it'd be nice if u did😇

You can write for Tom Holland and co, Peter Parker, Arvin Russell, or any Harry Potter character (golden trio era)

It's totally ok if there is anyone else you want to write for but, make sure they are from MCU or disney or wizarding world fandom! (For my convenience as I'm in those fandoms hehe)

what is a fic bingo?

a fic bingo involves receiving a bingo card with a trope on each square. writers that complete 3 different fics for 3 different squares in horizontal, diagonal or vertical rows, get a bingo. each work only counts for one square, even if it covers several tropes.

however, you not need to get any bingos during this event - it doesn’t matter how many fics you complete (even if it’s just one). all that matters if you have fun with what you choose to write!

what tropes will there be?

i’ve compiled a list of all the tropes at the end of this page. your bingo card will include nine (9) of these tropes.

what do i write?

each work must be at least 800 words, but anything over that is absolutely fine! any relationship type (friends, dating, married, exes, co-stars, siblings etc.) is fine, any genre is allowed, and any other character can be in it! anything’s fine as long as the fic is centred around tom x reader.

if you’re a minor please do not write smut.

how do i post my works?

all fics included in your bingo must be posted on tumblr and tagged with #hrficbingo1k. make sure that hashtag is one of the first five (5) tags on the post, or else it won’t show up in the tag!

i’ll be reblogging all the works in the tag, and compiling a masterlist post at the end of the fic bingo to showcase all of your lovely works!

Abby’s 1k Writing Challenge!

thank you! thank you for 1,000 followers. you all have no idea how happy that makes me. i have been on here for quite some time and never would i thought to have 1,000 of you support me and my (shitty) writing. anyway, i hope that all of you know that i love you so much and i hope you enjoy this challenge!

Steps:

For this celebration, I have decided against another sleepover. This time, it will be a writing challenge. I know that all of you are very talented writers and I want to read what you have written for me. Knowing myself, I have a few specific instructions. So if you want to join this challenge, please read the instructions carefully and please follow them.

INSTRUCTIONS:
