Absolutely disheartening.
Tumblr media
The EU has been a leader in renewables and in the fight against climate change. This 180° policy change constitutes a major source of concern as now billions of euros worth of investments, money that would have otherwise gone to developing actual sustainable power plants, will be used to create more non-renewable energy facilities.
It's been stated that only gas projects replacing coal that emit less than 270 grams of CO2 per kilowatt-hour can get a temporary green label. While this would facilitate a coal -> gas/nuclear -> renewables transition, we are in NO POSITION to waste so much time on slow transition proposals.
We need to stop delaying the transition to renewables. We ought to switch to carbon neutral tech not in a decade, but NOW. We live in a climate crisis that will not be waiting on us.

111 years ago today Knowledge alone isn't sufficient to ensure good decision-making, because governance isn't about information. It is about power and influence. We need policies to be informed by evidence and to ensure scientists have credibility

Modern Alchemists Turn Airborne CO2 into Diamonds
Each carat removes 20 tons of greenhouse gas from the sky, entrepreneurs say
The idea of collecting CO2 from the sky and trapping it in valuable products before it can warm the Earth is a seductive marketing strategy. Especially for an industry that sells precious items that last “forever.”
That, in a nutshell, describes the global diamond trade.
Tumblr media
Now, two companies are selling diamonds made in a laboratory from CO2 that once circled the Earth.
The sales pitch can be stunning. As Ryan Shearman, the founder and CEO of a New York-based company called Aether, recently explained to a reporter for Vogue magazine: Each carat of a diamond removes 20 tons of CO2. That, he said, is more invisible gas than the average person produces in a year.
With the purchase of a 2-carat diamond, Shearman pointed out, “you’re essentially offsetting 2 ½ years of your life.”

Good News From Israel
In the 23rd Oct 22 edition of Israel’s good news, the highlights include:
Israeli innovations benefit heart patients and expectant mothers.
An Israeli startup finds jobs for “invisible” US workers.
An Israeli company won a World Sustainability award.
Intel launched its latest Israeli-developed processor, in Israel!
Six Israeli sustainable innovations.
An Israeli desalination facility to be built in Azerbaijan.

Health and Sustainability are two key themes of the Jewish festival of Sukkot (Tabernacles) that Jews just finished celebrating. They also feature heavily in my latest positive Israel newsletter.
Recent medical innovations include protecting heart function, aid for dyslexics, trauma therapy and delivering healthy babies. Technical innovations help capture more solar energy, remove carbon dioxide from the air, and recycle everything from shoes, and old phones to construction materials. Israeli businesses are producing food from seaweed, pollinating tomatoes, manufacturing efficient electric motors, and desalinating seawater. Israeli startups are making a global impact with a World Sustainability award and the world's first sustainability database.
Read about Israel's successes in breeding rare species, the bird sanctuary in the heart of Tel Aviv, and unusual sea creatures visiting Eilat's coast. Finally, Israel again proves it will always come to the aid of victims of natural and humanitarian disasters.
The photo is of grapes growing alongside the path next to the children's playground near my home in Israel - a healthy environment for children to grow.

hello,
the willow project is an $8 billion dollar proposed oil and gas project in alaska. it would open up 629~ million barrels of oil and produce 287~ million metric tons of co2 over 30 years. this project is for power and money.
if this plan is approved, hope of saving the world is destroyed.
please sign this petition
