A/N: How did this get so long?? Currently listening to a zombie anthology which explains the subject matter.
None of the original prompts sparked anything. So I picked an alternate prompt. And then some of the original prompts sparked inspiration.
--
Fili hadn’t known that the end of the world would be televised. He had never thought that he would watch the implosion of governments on TikTok on his phone while hiding in his basement listening to the roar of planes overhead.
But it was.
And he had.
Or it was until there was no more cell service. That was when he got scared.
“Hurry up, Fili. We need to get moving.”
Fili nodded, but he did not verbally respond to Thorin’s order. There were no more requests, no more “could you’s.” Everything that needed doing was important and time sensitive. Fili was fiddling with an old GPS that Thorin had in his storage unit.
“You are such a pack rat,” Dis had admonished when Thorin pulled up the metal door that squealed loudly. The storage unit was large, but organized—Bilbo took credit for that—and they were able to quickly sort through and find what they needed.
Winter Gear? ✔ Camping Equipment? ✔ GPS? ✔ Any other old electronics? ✔ Paper maps? ✔ Tools? ✔
The thing was that the GPS unit had not only been stored away because it was obsolete once everyone had smartphones, it had not be entirely functional anymore. And sitting in storage for over a decade had not improved its capabilities and functionality. They were currently traveling using paper maps that were at least 30-40 years out of date and Bilbo’s sense of direction. They were all crammed into a cargo van that Dwalin had used to haul equipment to gigs back when music was a thing that most people had time for. They also had a trailer. Between the two they had stored a lot of things they thought they needed or might need in the future and they had place for the five (hopefully soon to be six) of them to sleep on inflatable camping pads.
It was slow going for many reasons.
The highways were full of stopped cars. Sometimes cars had just been abandoned on the highway. Sometimes only one lane was open and everyone who still had gas to put in a car seemed to be trying to get to the same places.
So they were using narrow, barely two lane county roads most of the time. These were better, but not by much. Cars were still abandoned. Farming equipment could also be blocking these roads along with herds of cattle who had escaped from their enclosures. These roads also had a tendency not to connect all the way through. The road would dead end for a mile only to pick up again. But it was impossible to drive for a mile through the torn up fields. So they had to detour, hope that seemingly straight roads were actually straight, and try to return to their original road.
If it had been winter they could have tried driving across the fields. Frozen earth would support the weight of the van and trailer, but the rough terrain may have done significant damage to their vehicles. But as it was, those were not options that they had to weigh. It was spring. The fields were often muddy swamps that were barely traversable by tractor. Ditches were overflowing. Sometimes roads were impassable due to flooding.
“At least we don’t have to worry about having enough to drink,” Bilbo had offered when Thorin had started cursing the incessant rain.
Thorin had scowled.
But now they had reached an impasse. Thorin’s knowledge could take them no further. The relevant map had gotten soaked by coffee and torn. The roads were now all blurry smears.
So they needed the GPS working.
Now.
Fili felt the pressure not just from those around him, but from within himself as well.
Kili had a habit of not listening and not doing as he was told.
The last communication they had with Kili was over a week ago now. They had been rationing an allotted amount of gasoline in the generator and they had called Kili on the two-way radio that Fili and Kili had left over from their childhood. Kili was told to stay put. To not leave his dorm room unless necessary. The building had a kitchen, bathrooms, exterior doors that locked when closed and you had to have a key to get inside.
But Kili never listened.
That’s how he had broken his arm when he was 6 and his foot when he was 15.
Fili was hoping that for just one time Kili would stay where he belonged. Safe.
What Dwalin was working on kept making clicking metal noises that was driving Fili to distraction. “Can you not?” he snapped, looking up from the GPS unit and his tiny soldering kit.
“No.” Dwalin’s voice was firm with no inflection. And he continued cleaning the guns.
That was the other thing.
There were guns everywhere.
And there were people with those guns.
People who were jumpy, scared, and didn’t know what they were doing. And, more dangerously, were those that were jumpy, scared, and did know what they were doing.
The trailer they were hauling had enough guns and ammunition to power a small militia.
Fili had always hated guns. He had friends who did 4H for the shooting sports and they had wanted him to join. They went deer hunting and drank alcohol pilfered from their parents in thermos. Fili declined. They went to gun ranges and rented guns that you could not legally own and that was their idea of a good time.
Fili would much rather stay at home and build model kits, tinker with electronics, and work on little things that Kili told him he should get patented.
And now guns were everywhere.
But for good reason.
The RN2a virus was that reason.
Scientists were working on a vaccine, but right now there was not much hope. So far the only known infection routes involved direct contact between an infected persons’ bodily fluids and your own mucosal membranes (eyes, nose, mouth, etc.) New information was being released and retracted on a near daily basis. No one was taking their chances.
You could recover from the disease, but having it did not give you immunity. There were people who had it 7 times before it killed them. The disease was not the worst part, nor was the death, it was the “reanimation” that came afterwards.
Those that had been reanimated had already been given a variety of nicknames—Zombies (obviously), biters, the undead—and then there were the more politically correct terms like—infected, afflicted, and reanimated. The news very carefully did not say what they had been reanimated from. They were always careful to talk around the whole “dead come back to life” bit. But everyone knew it. Most people by now had known someone who had succumbed to the disease.
It had started slowly. That was why Kili had still started college like he had been planning before the pandemic started. It grew slowly for over a year, with there being scattered reports of the dead coming back to life (and it being a symbol of the End Times), and then it had exploded in recent months. It hadn’t felt like the end of the world at first. It just felt like a bad flu season, then it felt like COVID all over again with “work from home” and “shelter in place” orders popping up everywhere. Fili returned to his part-time job of delivering groceries just like he had during COVID when he had been finishing up his senior year of high school online.
“We need to move on and find a better place to set up for the night,” Thorin said. “Do you think you can finish this in the van?”
“It moves too much,” Fili replied tersely. “I’ll probably damage it when we hit a pothole or swerve to avoid hitting another fucking deer.”
“It’ll have to wait until tomorrow then.” Dwalin’s voice had a sharp edge and everyone looked at him. Then they all saw the forms moving near the distant tree line.
Kili looked out the window of his dorm room into the green space that was sheltered on three sides by the building. A pine tree blocked a lot of the view, but also kept them from being seen.
“Do you think they’re still coming?” Ori asked.
“They wouldn’t just leave us here.” Kili scratched at some dried acrylic paint on the windowsill, remnants of a previous student’s art project.
“I don’t think they’d leave us here,” Ori said defensively. “Just that they got held up. Or something happened.”
“Something did happen. The power went out. And the radios died. That’s all that happened.”
Ori did not say anything more. He looked back at the pages of the book he was reading. The first thing Ori did when it looked like things were getting bad again and like they might all be told to stay in their dorm rooms for weeks on end was go to the library and check out a massive pile of books. Ori caught a clump of pages under his fingernails and ran them up and down. He had been on this one page of a thriller (probably not the best choice) for over thirty minutes now.
“Do you think we should do something?” Kili asked suddenly.
“Like?”
“Like make our way to them? Maybe we’ll run into them on the way.” Kili started pacing the length of the room from the windows, past the desk to the door and back with a detour for the space between their beds.
“And maybe we wouldn’t run into each other. We’d miss each other by a mile and then that would be it unless we both got the radios working again at the same time and were within range of each other.”
Kili grunted. And he kept pacing. And chewing at his fingernails.
“Stop,” Ori said without looking up from the book again, even though he was just staring at the weird shapes that the negative spaces made by the words.
Kili looked up, “Stop what?”
“All of it.”
The brick buildings of the college finally appeared. It had taken them over a week to travel what they normally traveled in an afternoon. The town surrounding the college appeared to by empty. There were the same abandoned cars, but there was also random items like trash bins, jackets, single shoes, backpacks, and such littering the road.
Thorin drove slowly. His knuckles white.
Bilbo reached over and put a hand over one of Thorin’s. Nobody said anything.
Fili wanted to jump out of the van right now and charge up to Kili’s dorm, pound on the door, and demand to be let in. He was getting the feeling that nobody was going to be there waiting for them. And the silence in the van told him that he was not the only one with these dark thoughts.
Dis stared out the window and worried her fingers.
“We’ll find him,” Fili said quietly when he took one of her hands in his own.
“I hope so,” Dis whispered.
They finally found a place to park that had a decently clear path forward if they had to exit in a hurry, which was always a possibility.
“Do you remember where he was living?” Dwalin asked, stuffing a gun into the waistband of his jeans. This question was directed at Fili. Dis and Bilbo had been charged with staying with the van. They were to keep it running and ready. Thorin had pressed a small but powerful glock into Bilbo’s hands.
“I’m pretty sure it was the one on the other side of the hill.”
“Pretty sure?”
“We didn’t move him this year!” Fili snapped. “I still remember where he lived last year. I know his campus mailing address, but that is no good because it would take us to the main student union!”
“We don’t have time for bickering,” Dwalin interrupted before Thorin could respond. “We need to get moving and get away from the city center.
“Here,” Dwalin held a gun out to Fili.
Fili held up hands, shaking his head, “No. I don’t even know how—”
Dwalin did not drop the hand that held the heavy black metal and plastic object. “You hold it with one hand, steady it with the other, keep both eyes open when you aim, squeeze—don’t pull—the trigger.”
Fili shook his head again.
“Take it or you’re staying with your mother,” Thorin snapped. His eyes were scanning the trees and buildings of the campus looking for any signs of Biters or of students or faculty.
Fili took a deep breath and took the gun. It was heavier than he expected. Following Dwalin and Thorin he was overly aware of the gun’s weight in his hand, it kept pulling his attention when he needed to be focusing on far more important things.
--
“Are you sure it was them?”
“Ori,” Kili said, stuffing another item into his backpack. “We practically grew up in the van. I would recognize it anywhere.”
Kili slung a duffle bag over his shoulder and then shrugged on his backpack. “Let’s go,” he said, grabbing his keys from the dresser even though it was likely that he would never use that brass colored key to open the door to his dorm ever again. “I saw them turn left towards the sporting fields.”
Ori shut the door behind them with a click.
—
Dwalin flung an arm out, stopping Fili in his tracks. He had been distracted by the unfamiliar weight of the weapon in his hand.
“Biters.”
Thorin’s gun made a small sound when he turned the safety off.
“Where,” Fili wanted to ask. But silence was one of their best protections. He scanned the trees that were just starting to turn green and the red brick buildings hoping to spot them.
“Kili,” he breathed.
“Fuck,” Dwalin swore at the same time.
“What is he doing?”
And then Fili saw the Biters, not fifty yards from Fili and Ori.
Kili grinned when he spotted them and started waving his arms.
Thorin made a harsh arm motion, trying to get Kili to stop.
But it was too late. The Biters had seen them.
“Goddammit,” Dwalin bit out. And he started to run, sprinting across the open green to close the distance between them, Kili and Ori, and the Biters. He squeezed off a few shots while running, but none of them hit their mark. But the noise did draw the Biters' attention away from Kili and Ori who had both frozen in place when they saw the Biters.
There were at least seven Biters.
Dwalin ducked behind the low wall surrounding a decorative fountain. Thorin and Fili followed suit.
“Get over here!” Thorin roared.
Kili and Ori started running. Their bags bounced heavily on their backs. Ori was falling behind until Kili slowed and took a bag from him.
Fili wanted to shout at him, to curse, “Just get over here,” he gritted under his breath. His fingers were cramping where they were wrapped around the now warm metal of the gun. “Come on, Kili.”
Thorin and Dwalin fired off a few more rounds, but this time it did not draw all of the Biters’ focus. Two of them had broken away from the group and were going to cut Kili and Ori off before they reached the fountain.
And then Kili fell.
Fili leapt over the wall before he could even consider the possible consequences.
He could smell the Biters. He could see their red rimmed eyes. Their ragged breathing was loud, whistling.
He was not going to make it to Kili in time.
Fili stopped. Planted his feet shoulders width apart. Ori brushed past him at a run. Raised both of his arms, his left hand cradling the butt of the gun and steadying his right hand. Kili was pushing himself to his feet, eyes fixed on the Biters who were quickly closing the distance. Fili leveled his gaze, both eyes open, the sight was centered on the Biter closest to Kili.
A breathe.
And a squeeze.
Fili did not think about the things he thought he would think if he had to kill a Biter. He always thought he would think about who they had been, who they could be again if the disease could be reversed. His mind was blank. Then he fixed the sight on the second Biter. Another squeeze. And another bloody hole in a human body that stopped moving for the last time.
Fili seized Kili’s hand and together they ran for the shelter of the wall and the protection of the group.
“Are you okay?” Fili asked as soon as they were seated behind the wall, chests heaving with exertion and relief.
Kili nodded. “I think so.”
“What were you thinking? We were coming to get you?”
“I was going crazy looking at the walls of that room.”
“Impatient,” Fili shook his head. “I’m really glad you’re okay.”
“I didn’t know if I’d see you again,” Kili admitted quietly. Fili could barely hear him over the sound of a few more gunshots from Thorin and Dwalin.
“And now you’re going to see me so much that you’re going to get sick of me,” Fili teased. “The van and that trailer are really cramped, and with two more people…”
“I don’t think I’ll ever be sick of you.”
“Good.”
Kili leaned his head on Fili’s shoulder. And for a moment of silence, things felt like they were all right.

Can You Even Dye My Eyes To Match My Gown?
Tumblr media
For some, the idea of a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system is simply an embellished database to store customer information… perhaps with some reporting on the side. This mindset is likely due to the transfer of knowledge in the decades before the advent of today’s cloud-based CRM, when a database was just a database. Today’s CRM systems however carry more weight than what you may perceive and in many ways can be akin to comparing a brick phone to today’s smartphone. Many advancements and related applications that used to be add-ons (or expensive custom coding) now come standard with today’s systems, and none more so than Salesforce which since 1999 has grown to be a leader in modern database systems. Plain Jane Out of the box, Salesforce provides a number of standard applications, known as ‘Objects’ to get any organization up and running, such as Accounts (Company data), Contacts (Person / Individual data), and Opportunities (Deal data). Many of the fields have already been configured so if your business uses a basic spreadsheet to track your customer and related information, odds are that the standard scenario is enough to get started. Staying on this topic for a moment, if you are using a spreadsheet or perhaps an older CRM or even a custom-built web-application and wish to get this data into Salesforce, the process is actually quite simple. This is accomplished via a data-load of your current information right into Salesforce by way of the industry-standard CSV file which for most systems (even ones going back decades) is just an export from your existing tool. Once you have your CSV File, then you need only map the fields in Salesforce. What if there are fields however that reside in your source database that don’t exist in Salesforce? This is where custom field generation comes in, and like the data-load process, is fairly straight-forward. Depending on the license type or subscription version of Salesforce, you can create between 100 - 800 custom fields, which for most Small-Medium Businesses is more than enough. So, for example if you are loading in customer data and there is a field in your old system (i.e. Architecture Type) which needs to be entered into Salesforce before data-load, all that needs to be done is to choose the fields type (i.e. Text, or Picklist) and that’s it. Once your Object has been set-up, the fields need only be presented in the logical function you wish by way of the Page Layout, and from there you can begin visualizing your data via lists or reports as well as create new records in Salesforce just like you did in your legacy application or spreadsheets. Additional options also come on-board such as Formulas and Validation Rules to ensure your data is kept clean and on-track. Next-Level Customization On-board, Salesforce provides different options for presenting the fields in your standard or custom objects. The most common is the side-by-side (i.e. Field #1 on left, Field #2 on right (Row 1) | Field #3 on left, Field #4 on right (Row 2) and so on) but what if you wanted to go beyond this and make a truly customized layout outside of what is available in the standard layout options? Salesforce offers two solutions to enable a custom presentation layout via Visualforce or Lightning Components. Visualforce provides a tag-based format similar to HTML in which to build the pages, while the components (elements) are built using Salesforce’s native programming language called ‘Apex’. Lightning Web Components is the next-generation customization engine which also utilizes Apex as well as JavaScript and is automatically mobile responsive. The option you choose depends on various factors, which you can determine from Rabia Bajaj’s comparison post.

While the majority of use-cases for Salesforce can be done using the declarative, or native components within the Sales or Service Cloud, there are unique situations when an alternative visual element may be required. For instance, if your firm has hundreds of users who have been using a legacy application for years or decades that you wish to be ported over to Salesforce, the need to make the interface as close to the original may be of high importance for both training and saving administrative time. Other reasons to pursue a custom design of your pages may be to include specific visual images (i.e. Icons / colors) displayed in certain locations within the page or to modify the styles of Text, Borders and other visual elements to a page. Taking It To The Streets With the ability to choose various alternatives for customizing your page, Salesforce can enable a unique page not only within your Sales or Service environment, but also for your external users, allowing your customers to log-in to a website, powered by the data in Salesforce through Experience Sites (previously known as Communities). Using a modern design / development interface similar to best-of-breed CMS tools, the IDE makes developing your customer-facing portals a palatable affair compared with time-consuming, manual-coding environments. As with professional CMS systems, every aspect of your website can be changed within the Salesforce Sites environment, giving your business a unique visual experience that aligns 1:1 with your marketing team’s brand and content strategy. Examples of businesses which utilize Salesforce for their customer interaction include USPS.com, Hulu and Dreambox, each of which have a unique style that looks like a modern website and not a database. By choosing to enable your external site using Salesforce, you have the ability of utilizing the data you already have, with the added benefit of capturing customer data right back into your CRM… a task that would otherwise be challenging when working with multiple tools and exporting / importing data to get the same result. When it comes to adding a truly unique splash of paint to your CRM, it is important to realize that not all databases are created equal. If your firm is considering a one-of-a-kind visual experience (especially when it involves an external customer-facing site) consider the features that come on-board with the various options provided by Salesforce and compare with other CRM (and/or CMS) providers. With Sales or Service Cloud you have the option of layout changes within any Object’s page, or go completely custom via VisualForce or Lightning Web Components, and for your customers, if your site is powered by Salesforce, while your visitors see a custom-built website, they may never know it’s Salesforce that’s powering the experience.

Seokjin doesn't mean to overreact. He knows he shouldn't. Knows you hate it. Knows, because he's been told enough times, that these types of reactions are unnecessary and possibly harmful for a child.
He can't really help it when deep down he knows he was meant to be an actor. Right before his actual birthday, his mother had dreamt of giving birth on a theatre stage, for God's sake.
But his father wasn't into it, given his ambitions, his own growing company and all the promising opportunities he envisioned both for him and for his only son. Therefore Seokjin went to law school, graduated with excellent mentions, followed an accelerated program in business development and managing and joined his father exactly where he was expected.
He isn't exactly complaining.
He likes his job, most of the time, likes the money and luxury that come with it especially and appreciates the work safety.
Now, you can't blame him for being quite the drama queen in his everyday life. All that pent up, buried alive passion for the arts of acting need to express, somehow.
That's what he'd say to you when you used to yell at him for starting weeping loudly in your ear when he'd call you to cancel a date last minute because he couldn't come, instead of just, cancelling it, aplogize, get over it like a normal person.
Or when you'd kick him in the ribs because he'd be all wild gestures and screeching screams when he'd teach your son to ride a bike and he would fall, as he should to learn, making the boy cry even when he wasn't hurt, solely from the projection of his dad's fear.
You're not here to tell him yourself but the glazed, annoyed roll of his son's eyes tells him precisely what you would. Those eyes are the worst. The prettiest he's ever seen. The ones he loves the most. The ones you also wear on your own pretty face.
"Since when?" He has a hand pressed to his chest, preventing a heart attack it seems, gaze wide and alarmed. Timothy sighs.
"A while. They were already together for Valentine's Day-" He explains patiently. That kid is sweet. The way he's slumped over, obviously annoyed to have to be the one telling his dad and having to deal with the consequences but still, he's watching over him with a soft eye, mouth torn in a sympathetic pout. He wouldn't mind his parents to get back together even though he is almost sure it wouldn't be a good idea for the both of you. He's heard tales of dysfunctional families, of parents hurting each other and their children and doesn't want that for any of you. He can't imagine it happen. You two are too good for that. That's probably why you had decided to separate in the first place.
Seokjin is quickly making maths in his head. Not really counting the time but situating himself in that time frame. Where was he at when she was out with this guy? What was he doing?
He may have been in Japan when it started. He remembers a call from you, you were asking him to take Timothy for a couple of days. You sounded embarrassed and he didn't know why but couldn't take the time to investigate, he had a flight expecting him and a conference call waiting to start in a couple of minutes. Important stuff. None of it would have mattered if he had known what you were up to.
"You okay, dad?" Timothy asks, awkward but kind. His mom basically.
"Devastated." Seokjin says with the widest grin on his face. He's not devastated. It'd be ridiculous to be for something absolutely predictable, fair and normal. He's not mad, nor disappointed. You deserve to be seeing people, have them desire you and make you feel good. He wishes it were him but if he can't do that, if you won't let him, he's glad you still can allow someone else to do it.
He's surprised though, he can't lie about that.
Honestly. That's stupid. But he didn't expect one second that you were seeing someone. You never mentioned anything and you didn't look like it. If there's a way you look when you're dating.
He remembers rosy cheeks and short skirts. You were younger.
"You think it's serious?" He asks casually, surprising even himself. His heart is in a turmoil but he showed enough to Timothy, acting like he was half dying, gasping for air and all.
"I don't know. She doesn't want to bring him home yet. Like, introduce him to me. I asked." Timothy, not only is he nice, he is smart. He's thirteen, shouldn't know much about Love and adults' matters yet. He's supposed to still be at that stage when one believes children and adults are two very distinctive race of humans, one that depends on the other and the other having it all figured it out, having reached a certain knowledge and expertise on all things and can't really be wrong on accident.
Timothy knows precisely what his dad would love to hear. And he gives it to him. Not to feed him vain hopes. Not even for this tiny hidden greed to have you back together. Simply because it's the truth and if for once the truth is pleasant to hear, then he should give it. Seokjin's smile only gets brighter. He shares a glance with his son, a glint winking his way and Timothy rolls his eyes, unable to hide the lift of the corners of his lips.
"Anyway, I heard you won that science fair at school?" Seokjin has already left his seat on Timothy's bed. He's rummaging through his leather bag and Timothy knows what it means. He has a present for him. Seokjin always has a present for him. Most of the time, he can justify it by some event or some success Timothy had encountered. The thing is they don't see each other that often, therefore, almost systematically, something new has come about and Seokjin can explain why he's brought a brand new console, a new laptop, a TV for his room or that one limited edition of this way too expensive branded pair of sneakers.
You used to get really mad at that. You'd say that he shouldn't, that he didn't need to bring him all these expensive stuff because what he'd like (it was a long time ago when Timothy was too young to have his own opinion and you would speak for him) is for his dad to be here more often. You'd say he wouldn't have to buy him shit for any other times than Christmas and his birthday if only he could be here for him. His dad would be his present.
It caused a lot of drama, a lot of crying. You had made sure not to scream, not to be too angry but Timothy felt from the way you squeezed him hard against your bosom that you were very upset. His dad had apologized, had said the most with his eyes only for you to understand. Timothy was staring, trying to get it too because he was involved, wasn't he? But that was one of those adults moments he wasn't allowed to participate in yet.
From then on, his dad wasn't late anymore when he'd set dates with him, his phone would be turned off when they were together and he would text him more often.
It was really nice. Because at first, Timothy felt that maybe if his dad wasn't so present it was because he didn't want to. For some reasons. He thought maybe he was too much of a coward or too nice possibly, to leave you two altogether, to disappear from your lives and start another one somewhere else, one he would have chosen and shaped as he'd want. Turns out Seokjin really appreciated his son and the time he got to spend with him. The more time they spend together, the more Timothy is met with awed eyes and whistling lips, impressed as his dad is by his smartness, his humour and hidden talents. He just was very busy. You explained that to him. That he was passionate by his work, that it required a sacrificial amount of time in one's life, and that he shouldn't ever take it personally because even he loved you and couldn't give you that time.
It's the conversation that led him to think that maybe his parents are meant to be, except they won't because... circumstances.
In any case, no matter how often they meet now, Seokjin still brings him gifts each and every time. The difference is that he has to think of a reason, sometimes make one up to not be struck down by your fury.
"Yes, I did."
"Of course, you did! Cause my son is the smartest." Timothy waits for the moment he says that his brain and the magic fuel filling it all come from him. It doesn't come. Instead, a neat white box is held in front of his face. There's a pretty tie made of ribbons glued in the middle, to hide the picture of what's inside, but there's no doubt that this is an iPhone. He rips the tie off and surprise surprise it's the iPhone 12.
"Mom is going to kill you." Timothy says first, before even thanking him, heart pounding from excitement and face split in two by the wide banana grin.
"Probably." He shrugs, unapologetic.
"Thanks, dad!" Timothy doesn't forget to add, eyes shiny and toothy grin even shinier.
He hopes so. That you're going to be mad. You two are too old to have petty fights now. You don't waste your energy in screaming and finding the worst things to say to hurt his feelings. You just cross your arms under your tits, clench your jaws and adopt that pout on your mouth, eyelids low and eyebrows high, the embodiment of condescendence and you look sexy as hell. He smiles and winks at you, calls you by an old pet name and you're swooning even though you try to hide it. No one is charming like he is, and no one charms you as he does therefore he's not too worried.
His son was just going around with this prehistorical device you dared to call a smartphone. With the broken screen, and the non-functioning selfie cam and the safari app needing a good ten minutes to charge one fucking page -this was deliberate as you wanted him to have a phone to call and text you and not go and lose himself on the internet or whatever. He's almost fourteen though and he's doing a great job at school and is such a good kid at home, he deserves it.
"I know and I don't care. I don't need you to tell me my son is good." You are infuriated. The perfect picture of you he had imagined, the only difference is that, you've just walked out of work, you seem to have had a rough day and your hair is a mess. With the wild locks hanging off of your bun, framing your pretty face, you look even better. "I don't want him to have something so expensive on him, first of all."
"His dad is richer than Cresus, what do you expect?" The cockiness dripping from every pore should suffice to make you explode. Of course, it doesn't. He has that stupid side grin. The one he's got you with in the first place.
"And what about- internet and even just the darn AppStore? He's too young to-"
"Are you worried about porn?" He frowns, you flush. That's precisely one of the things you think about. You don't want him to fall upon stuff he doesn't need to see -in your opinion for a good ten years at least- or start taking interest in social medias where creepy fuckers could hang out.
You flush because apparently, it's a word complicated still to hear from him. "I've made a parental software installed in it. And a localisation too. Not that we really need it with him but you know."
"Oh." All tension escapes from your torn face and tensed shoulders.
"Oh, wow, my first love is such a good dad." He mocks, voice high, hardly resembling yours, barely biting back a smirk. He even goes as far as swiping the right side of his bangs back, eyes closed, mannerism insufferable.
"Shut up." More flush. A fist to his chest for punishment. Bad idea. Apparently, he went back to the gym.
"You should be nicer because I have something for you too." He says, eyes glancing mischievously as his hand dips in the pocket of his trench coat. "Well. I don't want it." You cross your arms on your chest again which only serves to push your tits forward to him and he wonders what you're playing at. Probably the same game he plays when he winks and smiles and lifts his eyebrow to you.
"Wait 'til you see it." He sees the moment you realize it's a jewellery box. He reads the instant wild excitement, he catches also the gloomy shadow you try to paint over it because you don't want to accept it. How many times does he need to be told to stop? He won't ever stop.
"You can't buy me, Seokjin." You're eyeing the velour box in his hand, a tiny beautiful red in this large pearly white palm. You want it. You always do. You don't dare uncross your arms though because you know that if you even do something as reckless as taking it in your hand, just to have a look at it, you won't be able to refuse it.
"Of course, I can." More of that smirk. You glare, it makes him wheeze as he does.
You have never ever been able to refuse any of his shiny presents. You're not a gold digger, that's precisely why you felt so guilty all the time, accepting to receive from him things you could never afford for him -or yourself. He's born richer than you'll ever be, he loves to spend it on his loved ones -and on cars and designer clothes- and amongst everything else he loves, he adores covering you in shiny little rocks.
No one has ever worn diamonds the way you do. You look beautiful without them, magnificent with them. They were made to enhance your beauty and you were made to give them sense.
"You're such a dick." You say, tone way too monotonous to still have been in total control of your free will. Your eyes are glued to the shine of the two dainty clear earrings nested in the case. He's holding it open in front of your nose, like a hypnotizing stick. He sees your determination wavers. Your arms have just untied. Your hand is getting close. He smiles already savouring his victory.
"Take them, petal, I don't think your new boy could ever afford them." Your hand freezes mid-track, face falling you look up. He's a bit surprised to see guilt in those eyes. Shame and guilt. Even though, you have the right to see whoever you want. Obviously.
"How-" His head tilts slightly towards the hallway, where the bedrooms and the one Timothy is in, probably playing with his new phone. "Great. Bribing our son into giving you off my personal information."
"I gave him the iPhone after he told me." Seokjin feels the need to precise. His son loves him and he confided for this very reason. He wants to believe. He hopes that it's not because he's worried his dad would have a mental breakdown if he were to learn the news the day his mom would invite him to their wedding or something.
You sigh. You don't know what to say it seems. He doesn't want you to feel upset. He's not going to congratulate you either. He can't.
"Take them."
"He could- he's a doctor, you know." You sound like a petty little girl saying that, fingers aiming for the box but mouth reshaped by contempt.
Thankfully, the mesmerizing glee on your lovely face makes up for this last information.
A doctor.
He snorts, huffs and rolls his eyes.
"Are you really being disdainful over the noblest of all professions?"
"I bet he's not as handsome as I am." Seokjin says, staring away into space in a very Vogue kind of pose.
"And it's relevant because your face saves lives too, right?" You add to his clownery, biting on the smile wanting to take over your face.
"Precisely." You're already putting them on, watching your fingers work in the reflection on the microwave door. He's loving it. One is on, reflecting the light coming from the window, bringing a new sense to your whole stance. You don't look tired anymore. You look very fancy. Sexier than before. Your butt sways a little in excitement when you take a new look at yourself, now beautifully decorated and he's reminded of an idea he once had but never got to realize.
He wanted to have a fashion designer make a garter holder made of tiny diamonds. Solely diamonds. It would fit you just right, maybe a bit tight on you, would dig slightly in the meat of your thighs, enough to look fucking sinful and not too much so it doesn't hurt. He was quite young when he had the idea first and was probably not rich enough to make it happen.
He now owns a few palaces perched on the last stage of skyscrapers in three of the most expensive cities in the world and he would sell one in a beat if it meant he could get that for you and see you wear it for him.
You'd probably end up accepting it and then wear it for your new boy so that's out the question.
He doesn't hesitate when he reaches a hand forward, slip his fingers through the tie holding your hair in a bun and slide it off. You don't even flinch, he's still allowed to do that.
"You look beautiful."
"Thank you." You whisper with a smile, both for the compliment and for the present.
"You went to the hair salon." You nod, forcing yourself not to show your surprise. He doesn't need it to throw himself some flowers, "See? I noticed." He adds with way too much pride for so little.
"Your lenses work, congratulations." Sarcasm is the only answer to his stupidity, you both have figured this out long ago. "Is he nice?" Seokjin can't help but ask. He doesn't want to know too much about him. Kind of hopes that it won't be necessary as the guy won't last too long. But he can't resist his curiosity.
"Yes." You say without much of a hesitation. "Last week, he took me to this nice French restaurant in Songpa." You tell, eyes looking away, a bit pensive, mindlessly playing with one strand of your hair. Your face is taken over by that air. Seokjin realizes then that you really like him.
"I used to take you to very nice restaurants all the time, remember?" He's just messing around now. He knows it's not that relevant. Knows it won't get him higher in your regard,
"And I would spend half the date with the waiter while you'll have yours with your phone. I do remember." Especially given you don't recall your common past the same.
He does remember now that you mention it. His memory has been awfully selective and mainly, what he could picture when he thought about those times, is how beautiful you looked, how much he wanted you and felt like even sitting right next to you, he couldn't satisfy that need, was missing you even if you were right there, and the mind-blowing sex too. The later probably happening because he owed to make it up to you because indeed, his job was on the dates too and you hated that. He remembers the late mornings, the lazy ones, you'd make him carry you on his back because your legs and your hips hurt too badly.
"Ouch!" Toppling over, hand on his bosom where it actually really hurts, he yelps in agony, pretending to have been shot. You giggle and slap his shoulder, pester him to stop when you both hear Timothy ask from his room if everything's okay. You'd think he would know by now that his dad is just a clown whose shenanigans shouldn't be taken seriously.
"Are you seeing someone these days?" What a shame, Seokjin really thought for once he'd be solely cool and collected and handsome. Instead, he can feel his ears start to burn in embarrassment, walks a few steps back, pretending to want to throw a glance through the window when really, he'd do anything to not have see you notice.
"Someone?" He huffs. "Some three, actually some four or five. You know how the ladies get with me-" He sounds dumb as hell. It suffices to make you laugh. You've always laughed at his antics. Even when you were going through complicated times, like the pregnancy and the soon to follow break up, he'd try to dry your cheeks and lighten your gaze, heartbroken as he was to see you like that, and it would always work.
"And I know how bad you are with maths." He nods, doesn't look at you, simply stares at the shiny tip of his italian shoes. "You should call me sometimes, Jin." You don't need to tell him, he knows. You say that to him almost every single time. It's just you being kindhearted, the way you've always been. But first, he hates the idea that somehow, to some degree, it's a pity hand you're holding out for him. And secondly, he knows he'll fuck up if he calls.
He won't be able to talk about his job or politics or what's on the dumb tv these days. He'd probably start by asking what you're wearing and end it all by serenading you. What a bad idea. "You don't ever call, only Tim. Which is fine but-" He is lonely, he does miss you, but he's not that stupid. "I miss you too, you know." You look awfully sincere when you say this. There's still a sad shade to your eyes and he suspects it comes from you worrying about him rather than you simply wanting him more in your life. Maybe it's there for both reasons. He can't be mad at you for caring about him still, can he? Ultimately, it's sweet. It's not your fault he tends to be a loser in his very personal life.
He wouldn't know who he is trying to comfort when he strides forward and place a kiss on your cheek. The other one he's cradling in his palm feels warmer the longer he touches it. He doesn't let it go once he backs up and away. You're looking up to him with your eyes looking all round and childish. Quiet and in expectancy. You look like you do when you would wait for him to kiss you. His thumb brushes over your bottom lip and he smirks.
"Expecting me to kiss you?" He asks with an eyebrow raised high. Pretend judgment in his tone, even remonstrance. As if. "How scandalous, when you already have a boyfriend." You know he's just kidding and he can tell that. He wouldn't play with that if he wasn't sure. He doesn't want to hurt your feelings, make you feel wrong or bad in any way. He loves you too much for that. You could let him kiss you and he wouldn't hold you accountable for it. Therefore he does. Because he's dying to since the last time it happened a couple of weeks back. And when your own lips welcome his, with that much willing and tenderness, he suspects you've had too.
He doesn't allow it to go too far. He thought you would stop him, at some point, but you don't. He's the one pulling away when his tongue, instinctively, means to reach out for your own. He knows what comes after that, and what comes after that and after and after. And even if you transpire guilt and shame, he can sense in the way your eyes stare into his that you would have let it all happen.
He's not lacking in desire, he hopes you know that. Honestly, since earlier, and that random flash of the diamond garter holder, his brain is half clouded by the thought of your thighs and his face buried in between them. You used to make the most delicious sounds, pulling at the root of his hair and chasing your high with your hips. Also now that he's met your mouth again and he envisioned what could happen if he just let go, he can't help but think about that dresser in your room. The gigantic thing you wanted him and Timothy to put together as sort of a father and son enterprise to bound or whatever - he ended up paying a guy to do it for them and they played Mario Kart instead but you don't need to know that. Point of the matter is, that massive dresser has a massive mirror on its door and that massive mirror sits perfectly in front of your bed. And all he can think about is how bad he'd like to fuck you on your bed while you'd watch yourself in it. He'd pull back your hair, hold in tight in his fist like he knows you love so you could see your own cute face while his cock would reshape your cunt to its fitting, all this with the pretty little shiny earrings adorning your ears.
Fuck, what a concept.
And it is to say that right now, he knows, you'd let him. He's not that wicked though. He feels your too weak to resist him today therefore he's not even going to chance it. He doesn't want you to do something you'd hate yourself for afterwards.
"I should go, I still have documents to send for a new contract before-" He takes a look at the expensive watch heavy on his wrist, you roll your eyes. "Half an hour ago, great." He offers you a smile that doesn't reach his eyes no matter how hard he tries before he's off to the hallway, giving you his broad back. "I'm going to say bye to Tim."
"It's just- like that, Seokjin." The words are pretty badly chosen. They don't mean much. Seokjin still gets it though. He can picture you behind him, shrugging your shoulders and tilting your head to the side. It doesn't mean much.
"I know, petal. Don't worry." He throws over his shoulder, faux lightness in his tone even though his heart feels raw. It doesn't mean enough, is more accurate. This kiss like every single one of your shared looks and words and bickering and touches, they all mean that you still fit perfectly good together. However, it's not enough because somehow, someday, you came to the conclusion that you were not meant to be. He's confused as to why and how he agreed with you then. Here's the main reason why he never calls you.
When Timothy looks up from his new phone, wearing your eyes and his smile, he feels a whole new range of pain affected to his sensitized heart. How can you not see that you're meant to be?

IMPORTANT HEADCANONS TO CONSIDER
Tumblr media
“None of this is terribly important to consider when comes to m-” Too bad, Sophie.  “No! I didn’t want these details released!” Too bad!
can they use chopsticks
Modern Sophie knows how to use them and prefers cooking with them! In her opinion, they are are both an essential and also one of the greatest cooking utensil to have of easy it is to wash them, they’re great for precision, and are multifunctional. She would have a pair in her kitchen and would regularly use them whenever she can.
Canon Sophie, however, will not have much experience with using them. Eating with chopsticks will be a challenge. However, she will fall under the same preference as her modern self, finding them a wonderful addition for her kitchen!
what do they do when they cant sleep
A far too common situation for Sophie, most days of her week are spent unable to gain any peace and allow herself to feel safe and relax enough to close her eyes. Anxiety will keep her staring at her ceiling, if she actually cared to stay lying down in bed.
Her routine would always involve movement and/or work. Usually, she would be confined to her room, filling out surplus paperwork or on projects she brought home with her. On rarer occasions, and surprising for those who know her as a ‘recluse,’ she would leave the house and walk some blocks around her neighborhood during the peaceful night. She doesn’t very much care for her safety at this point, and would let herself to get lost into the nighttime.
Modern-verse, she would add on continuing and playing video games that she hasn’t had the time to finish. Usually, it would be strategy games like Fire Emblem, visual novels like, for example, Type-Moon or Frontwing, and mobile games like gachas and hidden object games.
what would they impulse buy at the grocery store
Sophie never considers impulse purchasing at stores. To be frank, this is the woman responsible for buying the groceries and budgeting for her family to ensure they have sufficient funds to keep this household above the water. If anything, impulse purchases she does are for her sisters and stepmother. When she remembers what they mentioned wanting particulars or indirectly mentioning something they saw on the television, it would be most definitely waiting for her family members in their rooms, or the kitchen, depending on what they were talking about. She would feel intensely guilty, and undeserving, about purchasing items for herself, but it mean doesn’t she wouldn’t -- it just happens as rarely because emotionally handling that is exhausting. When she does, it is usually either affordable art supplies and flower seeds. Depending on the verse, she would either have a garden (backyard) to plant them or she resorts to growing them in pots and anything she can get her hands on.
what order do they wash things in the shower
Theoretically, from top to bottom. If it’s a day where she needs to wash her hair, it would start at her scalp and end at her toes, but the very last part would be her private bits! Usually, she would focus on her arms and hands, to then her shoulders and chest, to then her back, and finally legs and feet. She doesn’t get the luxury of spending much time in the shower because she very feels like it should be a “get in, get out” thing to do in the mornings. However, it does depend how emotionally spent she is on the day. Something cute that she does, when she’s in her better moods or wanting to ‘escape’ a bit, is that she’ll hum and sing to herself while showering!
what’s their coffee order
Guess who is the person who dislikes coffee and would refuse trying it at all? That is Sophie Hatter! Unless she has to try it out of obligation or wishes to be polite, she would not drink it. If made to have some, it would possibly be more milk or cream than coffee that way she can handle it. If someone were to think that introducing her to sweeter alternatives would help, quite unfortunately wrong you are! Sophie does not have a sweet tooth and is notoriously picky when it comes to anything sugary.
what sort of apps would they have on their smartphone
Having some difficulty navigating her phones (professional and personal lines), she has very limited knowledge on how to use it and has only perfected using her phones for particular functions.  On her professional phone, it was very limited and one 5-6 apps are downloaded to the phone, outside of the pre-installed apps that she would use regularly. This would be related to programs that’ll help her keep track of stock exchange, investment monitoring, budgeting, creating, scanning, and signing documents, and those very niche  duties. However, she will treat herself to having one art application that is also installed on her personal phone. On her personal/private phone, it would be the similar situation where her apps are limited. However, there are some that Martha and Lettie installed for her like certain social media apps that Sophie uses passingly, but never focuses too much on it. Something like Twitter may be her “go-to” but it’s an private account not even under her name (compared to the corporate account) and she posts her sketches and fanart and her random thoughts and questions. She’d probably also have the almanac app downloaded beside several art apps, a flower guide, bird-watching guide, and one or three games she’d sink some hours (mentioned earlier).
how do they act around children
Sister-turned-parent (as she did function as both mother and father for her sisters), Sophie easily finds herself understanding and getting along with children. Generally, though, she is a friendly but firm figure, always entertaining what a child has to say and listening to what they’re expressing. Being around children would reveal her doting and gentler side faster than most things, but it would also reveal her protective nature as easily (She was cursed as a black cat in the books when she had Morgan and anytime she felt her child in danger, she shifted herself, willingly, a panther. She doesn’t play around.)
As sad as it is to say, she is much more expressive but honest with children; she has this particular care and respect about those so young and being able to live their childhoods. She idealizes the idea of ‘childhood’ and finding it such an imperative and special time in anyone’s life. Given her lack-of childhood that she never had, it is particular sensitive for her and she acts on the “I went through this and no one else should” ideal.
what would they watch on tv when they’re bored and nothing they really like is on
Any nature channel or music channel (i.e., classical) that she can listen to while she does something around the living room. If she cannot find something she’ll enjoying watching, she wouldn’t really spend her time sitting and just whatever when she can easily be doing something else that does interest her.

Get Paid To Take Pictures With Your Phone – 20 Ways That Work(Next)

Tumblr media
Other Ways To Earn With Photos
You don’t have to be a seasoned photographer — or even artistic — to make money with your photos. Cell phone images of more mundane things can still earn you extra cash. Here are some more options to make money from photos for the more practical types.
#18. Take Pictures Of Receipts
You can get paid for taking pictures of things as ordinary as grocery receipts.
With apps like Fetch and Ibotta, you can get rebates from your grocery purchases. They offer rebates on things you likely buy at the grocery store every week.
Simply download the app, and buy one of the items or brands that offers a rebate (no coupon required). Snap a photo of your receipt, upload it, and get paid via PayPal.
You won’t make a mint on apps like these, but they’re a great way to put extra cash back in your pocket for grocery shopping — something you have to do anyway.
#19. Take Pictures Inside Stores
Dozens of companies want eyes on the ground to assess how their employees treat their customers, how products are displayed, and how clean their stores are. That’s where you (and your trusty cell phone camera) come in.
As a mystery shopper, you pose as a normal customer. But you’re on a mission to covertly take photos of specific things in a store’s interior to give the company valuable information.
Mystery shopping has been around a while, but apps like Mobee, Shopkick, and Field Agent have automated the process. Get notifications of new assignments near you. Sign up for a shop, complete the requirements, and upload your photo inside the app.
Mobee and Shopkick apps pay in gift cards to common stores (Amazon, Best Buy, Sephora, etc.), but Field Agent pays cash via PayPal or Dwolla.
#20. Take Pictures Of Help Wanted Signs
Editor’s Note: In April 2020, Indeed announced that JobSpotter (discussed below) was indefinitely ceasing operations as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. We’ll update this page if the app is brought back online.
By submitting photos of help wanted signs in your neighborhood, you can earn points through the JobSpotter app. JobSpotter posts these jobs to Indeed.com, one of the largest job search engines on the web.
To ensure accurate data about the location that’s hiring, photos must be of signs hung in the window of the establishment. JobSpotter has specific standards for images (not blurry, not taken from a car, contains no people), so be sure to read the requirements before starting this side hustle.
You can redeem JobSpotter points for Amazon gift cards.
#21. Take Pictures Of Yourself Looking Great
Authenticity and real people (not airbrushed models) are all the rage in photography and advertising right now. One of the most unique subjects that you have constant access to is you! Telling your story, showcasing your look, and being yourself can gain you a loyal following as an online influencer.
Influencers have almost boundless income potential as the influencer market is slated to grow to $8 billion in 2020.
If you have a sizable following, brands will pay for individual posts. But if you’re not a big fish yet, companies like Stylinity will pay you a commission for shoppable items in your selfies that feature the brands they work with.
And this isn’t just for the fashionistas. Stylinity works with travel, automotive, home decor, books and electronic brands as well.
#22. Work As A Freelance Photographer
To build up your photography business, try advertising your services on Fiverr and other freelance websites. They broadcast your photography to a worldwide customer base, which is great whether you’ve been doing photography for years or are just breaking into the space.
There’s healthy demand for food images for cooking blogs, product photos for e-commerce stores, and lifestyle stock photos. Rather than taking images and hoping they sell, contracting with a client via Fiverr ensures that you’re producing photos that someone will pay for.
Unlike other photo websites, as a freelancer you work with your clients directly and you can set your deadlines and rates for your services.
Common Questions Can I sell photos that contain people or private property?
You may or may not need permission to sell photos that contain people or property. Copyright law is complicated, so make sure you review the requirements of your chosen platform before uploading your pictures. You can also refer to this FAQ from the American Society of Media Photographers for more info about when you need a model release and/or a property release.
What kinds of pictures sell the best on stock photo sites?
The most in-demand stock photos are those that have a candid, authentic look — things like kids playing, coworkers at a meeting and friends chatting. Also, photos that include people of diverse backgrounds and less-represented demographics are increasingly popular.
Can I sell photos on more than one app or site?
Generally, yes. In fact, it’s a good idea to upload to many sites to increase your exposure as a photographer and up your chances of getting accepted. Each site and app may have different requirements on exclusivity, and some may pay you a larger royalty for exclusive rights to a photo. So do your homework before you upload.
Can I sell pictures of myself?
Yes! You don’t need to be a model, either. In the post-airbrush world, people crave authentic pictures of real people. Most cell phone cameras have a time delay function, so spend some time on the other end of your camera. There’s no reason you can’t be the star of your stock photos.
Where can I learn how to take great pictures?
Photography is a learned art, and as any photographer will tell you, it’s a lot more complicated than just snapping a pretty picture. There are numerous online courses (through websites like Skillshare and Udemy, as well as through colleges) and books on photography. Several blogs also offer great tips and information on how to get started. Get to know the basic functions of your smartphone camera, and when to use them. Pay particular attention to the fundamentals of photography (e.g., the rule of thirds, fill the frame, etc.), since no camera, lens or filter will make up for errors like bad composition. If you’re new to photography, pick up a book on the subject and practice the principles before monetizing your hobby.
Summary One great thing about photography that is unlike many other business ideas and side hustles is its potential as passive income. You only have to shoot, edit, and upload each photo once. After that, you can sell the photo again and again.
None of these photography businesses are get-rich-quick schemes. Each of these apps and websites requires time, effort and a bit of practice on your part to see what works. That’s true in any business.
With the ceaseless hunger of social media users, companies and websites for fresh new content, the need for creative images is greater now that ever before.
And with the near-universal availability of cell phones, you can certainly make money with the camera you carry in your back pocket every day.
I will regularly share the high-quality content of the blog and let it spread out to help more people.

I am aching to write something for Good Omens including Ineffable Bureaucracy, and while this isn’t exactly a fic (I’ll get to that eventually), I needed to get this out of my system. Far longer than I expected, so watch out for the cut.
So it’s been some time after the Armageddon’t. Not terribly long in the grand scheme of things, but perhaps a couple of years. Enough for the bloodlust of both Heaven and Hell to settle a little in preparation for whatever might come next.
Crowley and Aziraphale are still on Earth, because there isn’t anywhere else for them to go. They mostly stay in London, in their respective places, but occasionally pop down to Tadfield to hang out with the Them, or even across the ocean to America to say hi to Anathema and Newt.
The thing is, nothing else has changed. They went against both of their sides, defied Satan himself and stopped the Appocalypse, and apparently none of that was enough to finally put to end their millennia-old dance around each other.
(If the dance metaphor can be used about two beings, one of whom can only dance the gavotte, and the other who says he can dance anything he wants, but in reality cannot dance well at all).
But it’s okay. They’re used to it. They can deal, they tell themselves. At least their head offices had left them alone, and they can go out for walks and dinners and picnics as much as they want without the fear of heavenly or hellish retribution. Neither has heard from their respective side since it all went down, after all. The Above and Below won’t just start contacting them now.
Except one day Aziraphale says goodbye to Crowley and returns to his bookshop. He opens the door, takes off his shoes, walks through the first floor towards the stairs which lead to the kitchen (he quite fancies some tea), and then freezes on the spot. Slowly turns around.
There’s Archangel fucking Gabriel standing in the midst of his bookshop, turning the pages of some centuries-old manuscript.
He isn’t even wearing gloves!
“Excuse me, what are you doing here?” Aziraphale asks. He likes to think he sounds polite. In reality, he mainly sounds terrified.
“Ah, Aziraphale,” Gabriel smiles, and then attempts to make smalltalk, which is about as ridiculous as it sounds. Gabriel sucks at smalltalk. He doesn’t even pay attention to the weather.
“What do you want?” Aziraphale asks him, finally. He thinks he really should get a smartphone, because it would be quite hard to make his way to the only phone in the bookshop and dial Crowley unnoticed. Gabriel sighs.
“I need your help.”
Well, that’s a new one.
“What could you possibly,” Aziraphale asks, and he likes to thing he sounds polite still, but now he just sounds terrifying, “need my help with?”
“Oh, well, you know,” Gabriel says. He closes the book and shoves it on the shelve it doesn’t even belong on. “I just wanted to ask. You and that... demon of yours.”
“Crowley.”
“Crowley,” Gabriel agrees. “Well, I wanted to ask– I mean, since you clearly have experience, I wanted to ask... How does it work?”
Aziraphale blinks. “How does what work?” he asks, and Gabriel waves him off, as if he thinks the clarification unnecessary.
“You know,” he says. “You and him. An angel and a demon. I mean, it’s certainly not... conventional.”
Aziraphale, by this point, is completely lost. “Our... friendship, you mean?” he confirms. “Well, I suppose not, but–“
“Oh, not the friendship, the other thing!” Gabriel interrupts, rather unsettled, fidgeting with the sleeves of his suit, which is in itself very odd. “Don’t make me say it out loud, Aziraphale.”
“I... sincerely have no idea whatever you’re talking about.”
“Oh, you–“ Gabriel says. And then goes silent. He isn’t human, and he likes to remind everybody that he isn’t human, so his body doesn’t perform normal human bodily functions such as breathing, so when he blinks at Aziraphale, owlishly, it must be a conscious choice.
“You really don’t, do you.”
“I–“ Aziraphale says, and then there is a flash of white light, and Gabriel is gone.
Well, that was weird, and I probably should tell Crowley about it, he decides, but first he has to move the book back to its proper place on the shelf, as well as so a lot of other things required of a bookshop owner, and all in all he doesn’t have much time to think of the encounter. Angels are known to speak in riddles, so he doubts he needs to ponder Gabriel’s words too much.
Rookie mistake.
Gabriel returns to his office and bangs his head on his desk. Twice.
He’s an angel, for god’s sake. He can sense this little emotion known as love. He most certainly doesn’t understand it, not fully, but he can sense it. And he knows that what Aziraphale feels for the demon – Crowley – is exactly that. Love.
And he used to find it absurd, but (long story short) he doesn’t anymore, and he was hoping, for Lord’s sake, to get some advice.
And instead he gets this utter bullshit. Friendship his ass.
He takes the phone off his desk and dials. Long past are the days when he needed to start a conversation with this particular being with a formal greeting or a work-related matter, so he just blurts out, “They aren’t dating.”
“Pardon me?” Beelzebub says.
“Crowley and Aziraphale. They aren’t dating,” Gabriel explains, impatiently. “You told me they were. You assured me they were. I was going to–“
And, of course, he can’t well say he was going to ask for advice, not to Beelzebub, so:
“–I was going to check on them, see if there’s any potential leverage on either of them through it, and they aren’t dating!”
“But,” Beelzebub says. Gabriel feels a little proud of himself (before he remembers that Pride is a sin), because it’s not every day that one can render a Prince of Hell speechless.
“But,” they say again. “But they’re.”
“Yes,” Gabriel agrees. “But, no. Not dating.“
“That is ridiculouzzz,” Beelzebub says, and their voice buzzes on their last letter, the way it does only when they’re particularly agitated. “Aren’t they in – ugh – aren’t they in that... thing you can sense?”
“Yes,” Gabriel says again. “They’re in love. Aziraphale is, at least. I can’t get a read on Crowley, obviously. But you told me–“
“I know what I told you!” they interrupt. “I thought– I was sure they’d– Oh, idiotzzz!”
“Yes,” Gabriel says, because agreeing with a demon seems to be today’s disturbing trend for him. “Anyways, so, uh, in case you wanted to know, there’s no, ah, leverage to be gotten from that, then.“
“Pity,” they say. “It would be a good source of leverage, that. If they could get their heads out of their asses, that izzz.”
“I’m sure it would,” Gabriel says.
The stay in meaningful silence for a good minute after that. Gabriel imagines what Beelzebub must look like, chewing on the inside of their cheek thoughtfully. He doesn’t want to imagine it, but he imagines it nonetheless.
“So, then,” Beelzebub says, finally. “If they were, theoretically, through some means, to get together...”
“...Then, of course, it would be a method of influence,” Gabriel picks up, leaning back in his chair. “When it comes to the two of them, we need those. And besides – well, really, how long have they known each other for? Surely it can’t be that hard to arrange!”
“And it might not hurt,” he continues. “I mean, what with the... love.” He says the last word on the exhale and cringes a little at how small it sounds, but then again, the being on the other side of the phone probably doesn’t notice.
“Idiotzzz,” Beelzebub repeats. They are quiet for a second, and then there is a scoff, or maybe another buzz. “Meet me on Trafalgar Square at noon tomorrow. Don’t be late, and get me coffee. We’ll talk about it.”
Gabriel doesn’t pump his fist in the air, because he is an angel, and he isn’t ridiculous, and in any case, this is a strictly work-related meeting.
“Yeah, okay,” he says. “See you then.”
He’s pretty sure he knows how they like their coffee.

Will Your Next Smartphone be a Xiaomi? S20 FE 5G vs Mi 10T!
I must start off by saying WOW. Just a few short years ago, I wouldn't have dared to compare a pretty high end Samsung device to any Xiaomi phone. Here we are though, it's 2021, Huawei is pretty much out of the picture given that their phones don't have access to the Google services, Samsung makes great phones, but are usually quite pricey and Xiaomi isn't focused on making only cheap, budget smartphones anymore. Although not available worldwide, the Mi 10 Ultra, which takes every spec and brings it to the max is Xiaomi's way of giving us a sneak peak into what the future holds when it comes to their high end phones.
We are going to divide this comparison into 6 categories: Design, Screen, UI, Performance, Camera and finally, which one deserves your hard earned cash the most? If you're only interested in a specific, feel free to jump to that section through the video progress bar.
Ok, so first of all, the design and quality of the phones. This one is pretty easy, with Samsung you can feel that some corners were cut in order to bring the price down, we have seen this happening with most flagship killers. The back is made out a hybrid material, something that Samsung calls glasstic, but really, it feels like matte plastic. On the Mi 10T, we have Gorilla glass 5 not just on the front, but also on the back with this mirror-like effect. Also, the color of the back shifts from dark grey to almost silver, depending on the light. The frame is made out of aluminium on both, which is to be expected, but overall, the design of the S20 FE is just uninspiring. From the plain camera bump, to the larger bezels, I just don't think the S20 FE takes the crown when it comes to design. The bezels on this phone are slightly larger than on the predecessor, the Galaxy S10 Lite, so I can't say I'm pleased with this. Although the bezels aren't really slim on the Mi 10T either, when holding the phone, you can feel that the materials are of much higher quality, mostly because of the back. The camera bump is more pronounced but at least more interesting than just throwing 3 cameras in column and making the bump much wider than necessary. I must mention, this is not a 4 camera system, as the holes would lead you to believe, one of them is there just for the sake of symmetry. I will say though, the Mi 10T is quite a bit heavier than the S20 FE, a bit larger, mostly because of the larger screen and about a milimeter thicker, so if you appreciate thin & light, the Mi 10T might not be for you. If these things don't bother you, the Mi 10T is an absolute winner, being much closer to flagship territory than the S20FE, when it comes to the design.
Things are going to get a lot more interesting now, let's talk about the screens. On paper, the screen of the Mi 10T might look like the winner. After all, it's larger, coming in at 6.67 inches instead of 6.5 inches and it has an impressive 144Hz refresh rate, rather than 120Hz. There's a catch though, the screen on the Mi 10T is an IPS LCD panel, unlike the Samsung which has an AMOLED screen. This right here is a significant difference and the sole reason why the screen on the Mi 10T is not as good as it could be. Blacks are not as deep as on the AMOLED, because of the backlighting, the refresh rate isn't as impressive as it sounds on paper, because of the high response time, which looks like ghosting if you pay attention. I'm not sure it would've fit the budget, but I can honestly say a 90Hz AMOLED screen would've been the better choice, instead of going all out on the refresh rate but not feeling this benefit because of the LCD panel. Because of the LCD panel, it also means that you are missing out on Always on functionality, but this is the smallest of drawbacks, if you ask me. On the other side, with the Samsung, it's the usual AMOLED with really saturated colors. If you switch colors from vivid to to normal, the colors become too washed out, much more than I'm used to on my iPhone. What I ended up doing is using vivid mode with the blue light filter activated. I'm sure color accuracy suffers because of this, but at least the screen looks closer to what I'm used to.
Next up, we'll discuss the UIs, because it's an important category. This does come down to personal preference though, so what I'll do is tell you what each one can do and any drawbacks that they may have. Let's start off with Samsung, this S20 FE 5G rocks One UI 3 on top of Android 11 and to be honest, Samsung has got their stuff together when it comes to UIs. I get updates quite frequently and will continue to get Android updates until Android 13, Samsung has their own identity now, I like their browser better than Chrome. Also something great that Samsung did for one-handed use is using these large headers at the top, which disappears when scrolling, but mean that you can easily access the buttons when opening the app. Samsung's dedicated one-handed mode is elegant and can be adjusted so the screen shrinks to exactly the size you need. As far as bugs and glitches go, I can happily say that I haven't experienced none and the interface is smooth. On the Mi 10T we have MIUI 12 running on top of Android 10, so we're starting off already with an older version of Android, but this should be updated to Android 11 at some point, hopefully... MIUI feels a bit snappier and it has a lot of great looking notifications, maybe a bit overdone, but it cheers me up seeing stuff happening instead of the boring notifications we all got used to. I like the fact that I can get to the quick settings panel through a single swipe on the right side of the screen instead of two swipes on Samsung. The video toolbox is extremely useful as it lets you listen podcasts on Android with the screen closed. It's not all rosy though, the phone app is for example the stock android one and the UI elements just don't seem MIUI-like, the background of the app is blueish, whereas all the other apps are black because I have dark mode on. Sometimes, an app I use frequently, cellmapper is stuck open and the only way to close it is by force-closing. I am happy to report, though that there are no ads here. In the end, it comes down to personal preference, if you like your phone to be more animated, you'll like MIUI, if you want a more sober experience, go with One UI.
Performance wise, not much to say, both are at the flagship level, given the Snapdragon 865 equipped by both. 6GB of RAM on both, as these are the base models, MIUI seems to be a bit more aggressive with RAM management but this can be tweaked on a per-app basis, so your most used apps aren't going to get closed. I'm impressed that I don't feel the change in the refresh rate on the Xiaomi, as it is adaptive, it's smooth all throughout. One thing I like about the Xiaomi is the side mounted fingerprint reader, it's blazing fast, much faster than any phone I've used so far. With the on screen fingerprint sensor on the S20 FE, I almost always struggle to get it to unlock, it's harder to keep your finger stationary on glass and it seems to have a hard time reading my finger. Overall, I'll give this to the Mi 10T, the fingerprint scanner tips the scale in its direction for sure.
Cameras are a category where sometimes you can really feel that corners were cut. In this case, the Mi 10T doesn't have a telephoto camera, Xiaomi choosing to offer a 5MP macro lens, which although miles better than the 2 MP, it still doesn't come anywhere close to the telephoto when it comes to usefulness. The main camera is a 64MP shooter on the Mi 10T, using pixel binning to get 16MP photos, whereas on the Samsung we have a 12MP sensor. Overall, both take good shots, with the Xiaomi having more details, but losing out on dynamic range and in low light conditions, which is why I'll give this one to Samsung. The Mi 10T shoots 8k video, but that's a gimmick, as there is no video stabilisation at 8k, so you'll most likely end up shooting 4k to get usable video.
So, now the final question. Which one should you get? Well, here's the deal, both of these smartphones are great, but for the price difference, $699 vs about $499, it's hard to justify the price of the Samsung. Yes, the camera is better on the Samsung, but on the other hand, the design on the Mi 10T is higher quality than on the Samsung. I can only recommend the S20 FE if you want an all-around better camera system, partly due to the telephoto, partly due to better dynamic range and low light capabilities or if you absolutely can't live without OLED, though I'd recommend checking it out in real life before making the call. If the camera's not your main focus, spare the money and get the better looking, higher quality built Mi 10T.

Dirty and Useless (Part 4)
Summary: Jason Todd had always said there were only two types of cop; Dirty and Useless. So when Y/N comes along with a spunky partner and a laughable code name it’s safe to say they don’t exactly see eye to eye. But if they’ve got anything in common it’s their secrets. Both are hiding behind masks whether they know it or not. Will the Robin get the Nightingale to come out of the shadows? Pairing: Titans!Jason Todd x Reader Word Count: 1248 Warnings: None.
Tumblr media
Several Months Later
Star city wasn't all that bad. Well, it was, but at least the part of town Y/N lived in was kinda okay.  It wasn't exactly anything fancy but at least it wasn't in the Glades - where criminals seemed to run rampant. Melisa didn't seem to mind the place, in fact, she'd found herself right at home claiming that there was more work to be done here than in Chicago. So for her sake, Y/N was trying to pretend she at least tolerated the place.
In reality, Y/N found Star City to be unnervingly quiet and miserably normal. The woman had lived the better part of her life in Gotham, where there was never a bleak day. And then she'd lived in Chicago where it was constantly noisy, sometimes obnoxiously so. Most of the time Star City's silence deprived Y/N of a proper nights rest. Quiet - where she was from - always meant that something was brewing, and she didn't like that one bit.
But if the simplicity of Star City hadn't been enough to annoy Y/N the living costs were. The two Sparrows had actually been living together ever since Y/N had dragged Melisa along on the impromptu move. It seemed easier and safer.
"Hey N/N," Melisa called from across the house, "What do you want for dinner?"
Y/N shuffled into the kitchen, towelling off her hair from the relaxing bath she'd been indulging in. She opened the fridge and winced. Melisa leant over her shoulder and sighed through her nose. A noise that the H/C haired woman had come to associate with forgetting to go grocery shopping and leaving dishes in the sink instead of in the dishwasher. Two things that both Sparrows - among other less frivolous things - were infamous for.
"Pizza?"
"Yup," Y/N slammed the fridge shut, "I'll make the call. You, sit down, it's been a big day and I don't think I've seen you sit down once."
Melisa groaned, "You know I get antsy after a takedown. Besides you're not much better. You'd still be at your desk listening to the man's confession on repeat if I hadn't forced you to wash off."
"It just seemed to easy," Y/N threw the towel over the back of a dining chair.
"Probably because it's us or Green Arrow. I mean who do you want to be busted by, two young adults or a grown-ass man wearing all green with a bow and arrow?"
"We're pretty badass but I guess I see your point," The H/C shrugged as she began hunting for her phone. Melisa simply rolled her eyes half-heartedly and flopped onto the living room couch.
It took Y/N ten minutes to locate her phone. She wouldn't have found it - still in the pocket of the jeans she'd abandoned - had the thing not been ringing. The shrill notes helped her find the device, prompting her to swiftly answer the No Caller ID. In her line of work, there was no telling who would be on the other end. Usually, it was simply someone from the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Every now and then - often after she took down someone especially powerful - she'd get a few threats to spice up her boring nights.
So you can imagine her surprise when an almost unsure voice asked, "Y/N?"
"Speaking," Y/N perched onto the edge of the bathtub. "Who's this?"
"Jason Todd. We met earlier this year." The woman's face hardened and she debated hanging up then and there.
"I thought I told you not to call this number again."
"I know," He obviously didn't, "But I wouldn't be calling if it wasn't important."
"Alright, fine. This is me giving you the benefit of the doubt," It was really just that she was curious. What had driven Gotham's second Robin to ask her for help? "I'll listen, listen and that's all."
There was silence on the other end of the line. It wasn't the boring silence that plagued Star City, it was pure Gotham silence. The kind that meant something bad was brewing, that a swarm of villains were about to besiege the city or terrible news was about to bring your whole world crumbling down.
"I need you to come back to Gotham," Jason paused for a moment as if waiting for her to blow up, "Harley Quinn is at large again, escaped from Arkham."
Y/N scoffed, "Don't tell me big bad bats is afraid of a clown."
"He's not. I'm the one asking for your help. As far as he knows we've never even heard of each other," At least Jason Todd had some sense of self-preservation if not a fully functioning brain. "I've heard the stories about you and Harley. You might be the only one who stands a chance anymore."
Y/N wouldn't have been able to resist the urge to roll her eyes, even if she'd tried, "Well obviously you haven't heard the stories because I actually like Harleen. I won't fight her."
"It's not her we're fighting."
"Then who?"
There was another pause, "...She and the Joker broke up."
"Good for her."
"No, not good." Jason sighed deeply and Y/N could almost picture him running a hand down his face in exasperation. "Joker is pissed. In fact, he's called in back up. Gotham's about to be a warzone. Joker, Scarecrow, Penguin and the Riddler are one side of it but... Look, we can't do this alone. We need your help."
A million thoughts ran through the H/C haired woman's head. A cacophony of voices calling her toward her childhood home and yet a million others screamed for her to run. To run so far that even Jason Todd and the great Batman would never find her again. Maybe if she hung up right now, grabbed Melisa and...
And then what? They'd move again, Melisa wouldn't hesitate to follow Y/N but could she do that to her fellow Sparrow? Could she uproot Melisa's and her own life again in another attempt to run away? No, running was not the answer, not anymore. She would stay here, Star City may have been boring but Melisa liked it. So that was enough for Y/N.
"Harley's gonna call in Poison Ivy, Catwoman and Deadshot." Y/N glanced through the bathroom door and into the hallway that lead to where she knew Melisa was waiting for her. "Don't bother calling this number again, that's all I've got for you."
"You told me that being a Sparrow meant the freedom to choose between good and evil. Well, the Nightingale is a symbol of love and hope," Jason gripped his phone tighter as if it could keep her listening. "Frankly, Gotham could use a bit of both. I'm not asking for his daughter... I'm asking for my partner."
"Don't try to contact me again."
"Wait!"
She hung up on him, pressing the phone into her forehead as she tried to steady her rapid breathing.
"Shit."
She threw the phone across the room, creating a shower of shattered glass. Y/N stood, leaving the bathroom and the remains of her smartphone behind. She turned down the hall and found herself in her bedroom. The H/C simply stood there for several moments, staring at the expanse of her room. When she finally moved it was to run a hand slowly over her eyes.
And then Y/N Wayne began packing.
