So... Connichi, huh? I didn't intended to go at first after they announced the move to Wiesbaden last year bc... Booooo! It's so fucking far away from my home but then things happened and the stars alined and I have to admit.... it was really fucking great and I absolutely do not regret going.

The new venue is so great and they did an amazing job useing it and there are so many good photo spots all around, the entries are so fast and there is space to just sit and chill. Loved the new Artist Alley, which has a real good size and is not as overwhelming as others. And it's light and airy and climatised and all. So... tradgically... I need to come back next year. Even thought it's so diffrent and doesn't feel like (old) Connichi (yet??) but I think it's still gonna be my favorit convention. To bad that the hotel situation in Wiesbaden is this... dreadful. But we will see what the year brings. And this concludes my last conventions for the year - which makes my heart extra heavy bc it was so lovely. I had such a good time hanging out with all the old friends and new ones I made during the year. My shifts at the cosplay repair booth were really wholesome and it made me really happy that we could help nearly everyone and seeing all those new cosplayers, who came by with their first (selfmade) costumes got me so excited and everyone was so polite and lovely, while waiting and chatted with us. I will just have to live with the fact that I won't see a lot of friends till next year spring or summer.

Connichi Sunday & Monday after

3rd September - Connichi Sunday

Last day of the Con, Carousel festival, group photos and being a circus brat

Last day at the convention started for be completely in the hotel as this time it was real hair time and I could fully dress up before getting to the convention hall.

It was quite early and I decided to head out for doll photos with Road - the only doll I had with me. The park itself was sadly full of garbage, I took Road out to some flowers and the morning sun helped with pics.

I picked up my friends then and we went to the convention meeting some more D.gray-man cosplayers and I actually got some photos!

I feel like there were even more dgm cosplayers on sunday??

After doing some silly pics with Red @adragonstale and I decided we wanted more and I remembered there was a carousel festival happening, after a quick google search we saw it was just a 10 minute walk from the convention location and...

Of course we got there. I got Popcorn which we shared later on, but ofc used for pics first.

I felt melanchony hitting hard during the afternoon, we checked some more vendors and I got a wig for a future teen!Mana cosplay from a store that sadly closes down now. As we sat down and I took a little nap while resting my head on my knees some creep wanted to take photos... between my legs. Luckily my friends were with me and told that asshole off. The worst is that this bastard wanted to argue that everyone "does this" and was offended my friend "ruined" his photo with pointing his middle finger into the camera.... seriously what is with Wiesbaden and those creeps?!

We headed out for dinner later on, the restaurant took forever we almost ordered take out there.

Then we went back to the con and did some more photos, slowly letting the evening end.

But it all came to a sudden ending as a swat team arrived and the whole city's police becauste some asshole called and told he would *do a thing* in the park.

That left a bitter taste for me as I was completely nervous then, it didn't help my hotel was next to a police station.

But well I was completely knocked out that evening.

Monday 4th September

Traveling back home, cleaning, cosplay aftermath, plans

Monday was the first day of the weekend I was sleeping long enough to actually need my alarm to get up. I traveled back that day, the drive back was actually shorter??? Like from the start it was told to be 30 minutes shorter to begin with. Weird.

The scenery was very beautiful.

Back home it was unpacking and seeing how much dirt I had collected with my cosplays. The cosplays were partially very stained and needed a good wash, especially the shoes.

Tested the wig I got very quickly and will work on my variant of teen!Mana later on.

I think I will finalize the cosplay for next year's bookfair, it's the same base as Nea but the wig needs some work and I want to make a new bag as Tim doesn't fit for Mana. I want to do a bag that looks like the Earl.

My next convention will be the Polaris in Hamburg, but just for one day (Saturday) - I will most likely doing an Allen variant, I will aim to redo his jacket for the runaway variant and hope I will make it in time.

I'm sure I need my friends closer if I will attend the Connichi again as I just need the emotional support and safety with those creeps and drug abuse around the location of the convention. It's a convention yes, it doesn't feel like the Connichi to me, the people were lovely though.

There are a lot of things that I truly missed about it feeling like the Connichi which starts with the fact we always got those cute tickets in the mail - since last year you had printed/mobile tickets; BUT last year you at least had the option to get a collector's ticket and got it via mail but this year they didn't even send it you had to pick it up... which felt very wrong having not the type of ticket you grew up with.

The missing main Manga and DVD publisher, missing small publisher and overall lovelessly arranged convention hall didn't help much. Yes you can spy on people when you go onto 2nd or 3rd level as the building is brighter with the windows and it's nice to have 3 entries and not just two (but wait we actually had 3 as well before covid, so, that's not even an argument), I missed the fact that the safety guards and medics checked the park, which they did in Kassel. I think it would have avoided a lot of called ambulances and that situation on sunday as well. I know they don't need to do that by law but ... well.

Also not having free public transport but a coupon for getting into a champange producer fabric tour doesn't compare at all (like wtf, then at least give us the Anime Cinema for free and not for an additional price). There is no free parking spots at all, you have to pay for all. Overall the convention is less central and more expensive while lacking a lot of things they had in before even within the programm. It has changed a lot and not all for the "omg new shiny building with space", if you lack the important vendors the space will remain empty and that is just very off putting.

It's nice to have more restaurants in a short distance but if the Matsuri wasn't lacking serious good food options this year we would have eaten at the con and not at restaurants. It was just tiny very overpriced snacks, last year you got good filling lunch/dinner options for an okay-ish price.

Overall: people were amazing, the con was seriously lacking a lot, people matter more for me though.

🌸The Satori mask🌸:

I made this mask using worbla on a foam base. The LEDs I used inside the eyes were taken from LED tea candles. They give the light a cool flickering effect.

🌸The right arm🌸:

For Rauru's right arm I wore the runes on top of a scaly glove.

-> First I sewed the glove from a very textured jersey fabric.

-> Then I added some artificial nails on top, which I modified to look like claws.

-> In order to construct the pattern for the runes, I actually had to create a makeshift cast of my arm first. For this, I wrapped my whole arm in newspaper and crepe tape. After cutting the cast open and removing it from my arm, I filled it with more newspaper to make it sturdy enough to work with.

-> This paper cast of my arm was perfect for constructing the pattern, since it could be rotated in any direction (as opposed to my real arm🙃)

-> Using the finished pattern, I made the runes from foam rubber and worbla and shaped them with heat. I painted them using terra-cotta spray paint.

🌸The clothing🌸:

I used satin fabric for a nice and flowing look on the clothes.

In order to recreate the shimmering pattern on the robe, I used heat transfer vinyl.

🌸The armor🌸:

All armor pieces are made from foam and worbla. I've been using this technique for many years, it really works great! The armor pieces were then painted with lacquer and gold acrylic paint.

Making this cosplay was a lot of fun!

Tears of the Kingdom offers so many beautiful designs and outfits.

I can't wait to make more from this game! <3

Connichi 2023 Recap!

I'm baaack! From my first anime convention in what must have been years (last one was around 2016???) and it was so much fun!! So many amazing cosplayers, and I was walking around with my friend who was in a cute Vash cosplay, just visiting the artists' booths for the whole day yesterday.

Cosplay Recap:

Might have been squealing for my friend's attention when I spotted a Tristamp group with a Wolfwood. Found several Vash's, all of whom were very very sweet, had a lucky photo bomb with a Roberto in the background, but didn't get a photo of a Wolfwood sadly.

The Conhon:

I finally got another Conhon entry by a very sweet artist (I think I'll ask if I may show it to you too with credit) and my friend BUT: my conhon is still very much very empty. I'm thinking fondly back to the times when I'd sit with a group of unknown people but familiar fandom, everbody just throwing their conhons in the middle and you grab the nearest and draw a little something and then pass it back. I feel like that's not so much a thing anymore but we need that back! If I ever ever am at a con were you are too and you have a conhon please let me know and we'll meet up and draw conhon entries for each other!!

(info: the Connichi was in Wiesbaden in Germany. I'm not super often at Cons but that's quite in the vicinity and I might try to visit more in the next years. I'm not joking please tell me when we'd be visiting the same con and wouldn't mind sitting around for some time trading conhons (sitting down as far as the con allows, but there's always some space on the side, or better yet outside if the weather is fine) )

Travel Blog, Connichi 2023!

Part 1 - Thursday & Friday

As the Connichi moved from Kassel to Wiesbaden it was quite a trip for me, double the travel distance, a city I don't know and lots of stuff to happen.

I decided to write about my trip there for myself to cover some events, give some insights and share the memories. Includes phone snapshots, some sketches for situations I was in aaaand maybe some previews for photoshootings ;>

As said I had to travel to Wiesbaden, I went by car. The road on its own was mainly highway but before I got to the highway I got stuck in traffic for almost 1 hour. After 5 hours of traveling alone on bad mental health I arrived in Wiesbaden before my friends did and waited for them

Apparently I looked rather pitiful and was approached by some weirdo who tried to give me candy and cigarettes and was super offended by me telling them off. I'm not used to people trying to prey on me but urgh, that was creepy af.

After my friends arrived I ordered my first Starbucks (it was an almond chai latte) as I didn't have anything to eat aside my breakfast that day.

We walked around in the city a bit and ended up in the indian restaurant I had researched before and I had some really delicious paneer with Naan bread and a Mango Cheesecake.

But ... Diamy and I decided to go for "medium" spicy and I underestimated it... I .... cried :'D

We later on found a super cute bakery and @adragonstale and I were totally in awe about the pastries they had.

I'm glad my friends arrived the same day, they really saved my mood.

Friday, 1. September 2023 - First Convention day

As the first day starts later on I decided to get out into the city as past!Allen and put on the Nea wig later on.

We walked a bit through the city, did some window shopping and I was able to share my wisdom about food and nutrition, I am such a nerd about it. Also sightseeing and just being casual about everything.

After that we decided to get changed and get into our convention attire.

The con itself... dunno. I was missing a whole bunch of publishers as there was only two bigger ones and 1-2 smaller ones, the other big ones weren't there, the Matsuri was lovelessly showed behind a construction fence, the artist alley was bigger, yes, but badly ventilated on friday that even I - who is freezing all the time - felt like I would be melting on the spot. Merch room was not even tempting for me I rushed through it, the other rooms were.. well... indoor photo shoot corners, workshops and all that. The invited guests all no names to me, therefore I skipped on the program. You didn't even have any anime series or movies airing at the con (which was a usual thing before) you had to leave the con and pay extra if you wanted to see old anime movies. Well. It wasn't my cup of tea aside the fact I think the building has no personality, I don't like those soulless new constructed modern styled bricks of congress halls. Yes you had the option to book photo spots in two older buildings BUT the slots were taken super fast and it was one location on Saturday, the other on the Sunday and .. well.. in Kassel you had a ton of old buildings you could visit. Wiesbaden has some nice spots too but things like the park being full of duck poop, drug addicts and garbage to begin with didn't help much.

During the con I .. somehow spiraled into the the now called "Anxiety Chihuahua" state. I met some D.gray-man cosplayers and was actually recognized as Nea BUT got told there would be a group meeting the day after and that it was for an existing group (not noticing it was ... my ... group ... ) and my head was all like "oh god now WHAT IF" and that made me sweaty, anxious and my mood in the end was horrible. To explain that: in my cosplay past I was part of some groups but in the end was ignored or replaced by people who were thinner or prettier than me, even when we had special outfits and the other cosplayer didn't have those outfits or even when I went to a certain event for that exact group ... it's past wounds. As my mental health was already a bit cracked it was easy for me to snap and get down.

I was super awkward and ran around like crazy, almost yelled at that one group that they were super cool and that i adore their costumes and just loudly said that I am just a fool and will be gone now. On the next day they told me they saw me earlier but I was too fast to approach. Uhm, yeah. Hyper anxiety clown here. Of course I didn't take much photos with any Cosplayers as I was too nervous which didn't help as I wanted some memories of course.

In the end it got that bad that as we went out for food that day I just stood there "I don't want any, I hate everything"; but I had 30k steps done and just a few snacks therefore... I needed something. Too little food and water makes the brain sad too and I think that added to my anxiety getting worse.

In the end we stopped at a small thai restaurant and my friends had to order for me as I totally refused everything. I knew it was my health being bad and I told them "just order a thing, I will pay. Just no bread". And @adragonstale got me tofu curry with rice (instead of bread) it was warm comforting food. Thank you again. I felt really better after that.

Even that much better that we did some photos of me as Nea!

And we discovered Wiesbaden has a wild population of parrots, they nearly flew into my face while we took pics.

I went back to my car after that and arrived in time for the Matsuri fireworks.

I was super beat that day after two quite exhausting days and hoped the main day would be better as the two prior. It was about time to debut Allen, and to face my fear with the group meeting and my past cosplay trauma.
