Seeing a dead body for the first time isn't easy, huh? (Part 1)
Seeing Hoshino's lifeless body sure was a shock for Kori. But what concerned her more was what Sawashiro said to Ichiban in Hoshino's office:
"The Ijin Three were your only support. Since we couldn’t kill you, we figured pulling the plug on that would make the most impact."
In her head this might as well could've been Zhao too. Who knows if he isn't gonna be next? Or maybe even someone from the Liumang comes after him? (Which she's actually totally right about considering the whole thing with Mabuchi later on)
After Sawashiro gets taken in, Kori and Zhao have a little fight. She's concerned, they are both irritated and tired, she just doesn't know what to do. It's not productive communication. It's better to just head to his place and go to sleep.
As if she could get any shut-eye after all that... She gets up to clear her head which of course wakes Zhao too. He lights a smoke, takes a puff but then hands it to her so they end up silently finishing the cig together.
Kori is not much of a smoker. Every now and then she would smoke one when she went out partying but that's about it. She used to smoke more back in Kamurocho tho.

you don't know how quickly i rushed here the minute i heard 'aang wakes up early au' indulge me please
the original details are here but i mostly talked about the plot in general so here’s more elaborated thoughts:
ursa is kind of a shitty knockoff of mai
she thinks she’s edgy and she has cool knives but unlike mai she has no idea how to use them
iroh is the equivalent of zhao + azula
except he doesn’t challenge anyone to agni kais
he also has a begrudging alliance with ursa
she’s the mastermind behind 90% of their plans and you better believe if she wasn’t here iroh Would Be Dead Already
aang is not dating anyone in this universe because he’s twelve and everyone around him is like. 15 (kya) at the youngest
also he has to suffer through hakoda and kya being In Love >:(
i just realise that his meeting with ran and shaw would be completely different because iroh would not have ‘killed’ the last dragons so it’d probably be more like
aang: got any ideas on how to learn firebending if yours is uh... messed up
ozai: my firebending is fueled by DRAMA. i don’t know why it’s messed up
aang: that’s nice but where can i learn firebending???
ozai: we could look for a dragon?????
aang: that sounds lethal
ozai: you have the avatar state to protect you and if i die i die
aang:
they meet ran and shaw
v unpleasant experience for ozai. the dragons torch his beard
pakku is only in his forties and once he gets hit in the head with a boomerang by kya (a lot of people get hit in the head with a boomerang by kya) he kind of learns to shut up
jeong jeong is still in the army. rip
bumi is (slightly) less old and hakoda and kya both hold a grudge against him for trying to lock them up???? tf???? (aang eats the rock candy afterwards)
piandao is decidedly not in the army. hakoda ends up with two swords from him. nobody, including hakoda, is sure if he stole them or not
aang tries to teach ozai pacifism
‘treat people how you want to be treated’
‘killed without hesitation?’
‘no- ok treat people how they want to be treated?’
‘what if they want to be treated as supreme ruler of the world?’
aang: *banging head against the wall*
people are ageist to azulon
aang’s earthbending teacher is- actually i have a way funnier idea for aang’s earthbending teacher
long feng
who shows up, tries to kidnap him, then realises it’s the avatar and begrudgingly teaches him earthbending, never to be seen again
lao beifong is like the cabbage merchant except he keep on trying to scam the gaang
aang has no idea
azulon’s flames are blue and aesthetic shame about the dictator part
aang doesn’t get electrocuted! yay. he does get lightly crispified and stabbed tho :(
instead of the final agni kai or aang’s battle with ozai aang challenges azulon to an agni kai (with shirts on bc lbr nobody wants to see old zuzu shirtless)
he nearly dies but thankfully ursa poisoned azulon’s drink :-)
aang has a habit of nearly dying but it’s a damn good thing he doesn’t because his team avatar is two nonbenders and one fiery fucker who could not heal if they tried
anger-fueled bending? well have you tried DRAMA-FUELED BENDING?
poor iroh he spent like a week in the boiling rock and then his dad died. oh no how sad. (/s the colonialist is dead and good riddance) he even lost the throne to his sixteen-year-old younger brother who prefers coffee over tea! the audacity of that motherfucker!

Since rewatching the guardian drama after reading the novel has made me mad about how bad and good both of them are I am Obligated to write out a list of what I think the perfect merger btw both versions of canon are. This will be in list format otherwise I’ll end up writing like 6k words again.
TLDR: the genre stays as supernatural from the novel and not Sci fi, bc that was rlly not fleshed out well. Shen Wei is a ghost king, and all the dixingren are ghosts or demons like originally intended. The ghost race naturally exists and wasn't born from kunluns shoulder fire or anything. They just exist separate from humans. Not all ghosts are former humans, some people are just born as ghosts, like Shen Wei. Zhao Yunlan has the guardian whip and all the cool stuff that comes with the Guardian order.  Overall, i’d keep the novel’s plot and relationship progression and ending without the backstory. Instead the backstory is a merger of both canons. From the drama I’d keep the characterization and themes as well as like half the extra cases and omit the other half.
I’ll be elaborating much further on my ideal backstory and other stuff under the cut bc the rest is 1.5k and I don’t wanna clog the dash
Okay SO In my ideal backstory there are two timelines just like the drama but the mythology of the book. The god Kunlun is actually zyl that went back in time and became a god. But the one that went back isn’t the current Zhao Yunlan. There has to be an original timeline where the god Kunlun never existed. Thus the great seal nor the separation of the three realms don’t exist either. Zhao Yunlan must go back in time to become a god, meet Shen Wei in the past, and create the current timeline where the separation exists but isn’t perfect. The current timeline is the one that the majority of the series takes place in.
In the original timeline, Zhao Yunlan is just some dude living in a world where ghosts, fairies, and all other beings just live in a giant free for all and it's kinda just a mess.
Like there’s government in modern context and all and all races live with each other but there's constant tension. ZYL works at some equivalent of the SID (same staff and side characters, but novel vers. Lin Jing is a monk, CSZ a zombie, etc) to protect people and all that and their job is rather hard. One day encounters the thousands year old ghost king Wei (who isnt shen wei yet bc zyl gave him that name in the future) who works alone as like a rouge cultivator of sorts. He lives on the surface undercover as a professor still bc he’s trying to not catch Yezun’s attention but does all the stuff he normally does as Heipaoshi. The two ally together for a case and bc they both have the same goals of getting all races to live in peace. At current, there are forces working together to decimate the human race, all lead by Yezun
As they work together they become closer and all that. Shen Wei tells him about how he was unable to prevent the great war 5 thousand years ago and neither could the gods so  he’s spent the past 5 thousand years trying to make up for it. As they search for ways to stop Yezun, they gather the 4 hallows and learn how to use them to manipulate time so ZYL can go into the past and stop the great war and separate the three realms (living, dead, ghost).  Shen Wei wants to go back with him but he can’t because he was alive all those years ago so if he goes back it will create a paradox. ZYL promises he’ll find Shen Wei in the past and create a timeline where they could be together in peace (that is the current timeline)
When goes back he becomes the god kunlun because there needed to be a new god born at the time to prevent the war.  Also this time traveller looked promising to Nuwa, Fuxi, and Shennong. And I know in the guardian universe gods are usually born and ppl don’t become gods. EXCEPT this can happen when a god passes on smth from their body onto them bc that did happen in the novel with Kunlun making shen wei a demigod. And since fu you and ma gui are supposed to be gods Nu Wa and Fuxi I think that when they die, they should make ZYL a god and that's how this stuff happens.
So like ZYL explains to the gods the time he came from and how he wants to save everything and they make him a god and he works to save everything just like he did in the drama but this time with the novel plotline. During this time he meets young Shen Wei (he’s still like a hundred or so years old) and they get close and all the stuff from the backstory happens. He gives him his name, all that good stuff. The entire time doesn’t let him know that he’s from the future or that his real name is ZYL. He just poses as kunlun.
The two of them alongside the other gods (who still die at the times they do in the novel) work together to end the war and establish the great seal and set up the cycle of reincarnation, per the current timeline. Although the seal and cycle of reincarnation aren’t perfect. Gods can’t reincarnate, and ghosts still don’t have souls. And just like the novel, doing all of this kills ZYL bc it takes a lot of energy to create the seal even though it isn’t perfect.
Shen Wei of course doesn’t want ZYL to die and zyl says it's alright because he fixed the timeline so there must One day they will meet again and ZYL reveals the truth about the timeline to shen wei before he dies. This becomes the promise that Shen Wei mentions to meet again. Before he dies, ZYL gives him the shoulder fire as a memento ( i still like the candy wrapper necklace deal but i’ll take this too. Maybe both.. The pendant is still just rlly cool.. Gay ppl)
Shen Wei knows gods can’t enter the cycle of reincarnation and still makes the deal with Shennong to strip Kunlun of his godhood and let him reincarnate. This sets us into the novel timeline where isn’t allowed to meet any of zyl’s reincarnations before he becomes zyl otherwise he will die and also fuck up the timeline. The same 5 thousand years of pining still ensue bc Gay Ppl and i love making Shen Wei suffer but he doesn’t have the shrine room thing bc i think thats weird and yea.. Bad.
In the meantime Shen Wei does a lot of things mostly just protecting the great seal and working for Hell to keep the peace but still does other stuff. He still watches out for ZYL’s reincarnations but doesn’t do much besides make sure they don’t die a premature death. They meet again finally at the beginning of the series and the timeline resumes like canon. And that's my master plan that merges both drama logic and novel logic while making a much better timeline. (I hope that makes some sense)
Da Qing is still Kunlun’s pet cat and important. Novel backstory applies to him. And I already mentioned him kinda but as for Yezun (Gui Mian in the novel) his deal is similar as in the drama but just a ghost. And he is a big player in the great war, he thought Shen Wei abandoned him as a kid but they were just separated. Shen Wei doesn’t know it's him till the end of the war and couldn’t stop him in the OG timeline and vows to bring him to justice and make amends. Shen Wei continuously tries to explain things to him but he just won’t listen and is imprisoned in hell bc yk… war criminal stuff and yeah he’s the main antagonist trying to break the great seal bc he’s still made about the past. Idk. Yezun wasn’t well written in the novel OR the drama so like… honestly he just needs to be completely rewritten and I don’t care enough about that. He can just be a weak villain idk
the drama characterization stays the same for everyone else bc found family go brr. However for Lao Chu i… hmm… i think he should still be a zombie but the reason he killed someone should be related to his brother. I like that addition and then shen wei realized his sentence was unjust and exempted him. i like that storyline merger. bc the brother thing and him admiring Heipaoshi was drama only. in the novel lao chu just murdered some kid for a rlly whatever reason.
uhhh in terms of the cases… id make adjustments to most of them. i think the li qian case should be like the drama bc the novel just had her as a murderer and it was boring.
For the mountain river awl one was fine… novel version was funnier and more interesting action wise tbh… rip zyl and his exorbitant flirting. uhhh the whole reveal that shen wei was the soul reaper thing was kinda… ehh in the novel but i did love the comedy of afterwards Shen Wei pretending he went into cardiac arrest when he actually just… has no pulse bc he's a ghost.
ID KEEP THE WORTH IT SCENE AND RAIN SCENE… THOSE FUCK SO HARD… I love the drama for adding those every damn day. the novel version of zyl losing his sight sucked and was sooo boring.  Keep the drama version on that.
also id keep dr. cheng. i'm very pro dr. cheng and her friendship with shen wei it adds so much to his character imo. keep the fruit seller man and his wife for the merit brush..omg it adds SO MUCH the way the drama did it.. like the drams build up with the novels pace of that arc.. mwah. it felt like it dragged a bit in the drama but if it went faster and without the hospital ep and with sha ya (sorry sha ya) that would've been so good. tho keep novel version of da qings memory loss and lao li. that was rlly impactful.
id say keep some of the cases like the mirror one, the eyes doctor one, etc. just to like.. yk have more to fill in general.. novel pacing but drama characterization without the bs that wasn't fully realized. and novel ending ofc. And that’s it!!
I hope most of this makes some amount of sense  but it probably doesn’t. In my head it all tracks but like ik most of u don’t know anything about the novel so this sounds like gibberish. Also I know this would literally never happen but this is MY ideal merger of the two canons that I feel compelled to expand on for some reason. Anyways, as io said,, we need to rebuild guardian. Like literally let me and the mutuals write Guardian and it will be 500 times better.

Crown Prince Li Kaiqing, Chen Ji, and Fushui
MAJOR spoilers for 《骊歌行》 Court Lady (2021)!!! This is just me blabbing about my feelings.
so we all knew that Crown Prince (CP) and Chen Ji (CJ) were gonna be BE cuz they have historical prototypes. after Chengxin was executed, Li Chengqian grieved for a long time, refusing to attend court and also building a shrine for him in the palaces.
well, even with that knowledge, i still cried like a little baby at the end of the drama. there’s not a single un-sad 感情线 in this entire show, but i really do think that the mess of these three is tragic.
before we dive into the mess that i’ve become, a huge round of applause to Li Zefeng for his amazing portrayal of the Crown Prince—the good-intentioned, sort of foolish boy that we first meet and then later the wide-eyed, paranoid, remorseless man. and of course similar props to Wang Yizhe’s two roles of sweet Chen Ji and scheming Fushui (and Sun Langlang for voicing them! Wang Zhi’s VA!).
so as i’ve already said, CP is really a whole different person after CJ dies. and the contrast between CJ and Fushui (FS) is very plainly evident: CJ dressed in pale white-blue, FS mostly in grey-black; CJ kept his hair loose, FS wears a bun (or hat, when he rises thru the ranks); CJ is a lowly palace entertainer, FS is well-trained in combat and medicine (and ends up as Senior Imperial Physician, somehow); CJ was terrible at weiqi, FS is good at weiqi but pretends to be bad at it. CJ was targeted and subjected to rumors, but no one dared question CP’s relationship with FS—because CP was in so much grief after CJ died, how could anyone bear to do that to CP again? even though FS was absolutely the one that everyone should have removed from CP’s side immediately…
when CP and CJ first meet in episode 7, CP is kind of a typical princely character: he’s kinda entitled, the world is his, his future is bright… and i firmly believe he 一见钟情 because while CJ still treated him with courtesy and respect, it’s obvious that CJ didn’t expect or want anything from him. and this continues in episode 9, when CP is trying to clear his thoughts by the riverside and runs into CJ who is fishing: CP brattishly orders CJ to stay and keep him company, and CJ is honestly more confused than anything as to why the freaking Crown Prince of the country wants to spend the whole goddamn day here. of course, it’s because CJ represents a freedom for CP: here, the Emperor won’t compare him to Prince Zhou or Prince Han; here, the Empress won’t admonish him over and over again; here, there’s no scheming advisors who try to curry favor with him. here, as CP tells CJ to use, it’s just “you and I” without care for rank or formalities.
(but also the death flag in episode 9 was atrociously obvious LOL with CP promising “I will make you a grave” to CJ’s absolute terror. on-the-nose. still made me sad later on, so that’s that i guess. in any case, the episode ends with a 定情信物 whereupon CP gives a jade from his belt to CJ.)
CP watches CJ perform (as he is an entertainer from Prince Han’s mansion) for the first time in episode 10, and we see it again in episode 12, episode 16, and episode 17. based off 《三国演义》Romance of the Three Kingdoms, the lyrics are as follows:
大丈夫只患功名不立 A great man should only worry about not gaining fame and honor/
何患无妻 Why worry over not having a wife/
舍生忘死报恩住 Leaving behind life and death to repay my Lord/
忠肝义胆待友朋 Treat my friends with righteous loyalty/
我要做有血性的英雄 I want to be a hot-blooded hero/
为义而生 To live for righteousness (loyalty)/
为义而死 To die for righteousness (loyalty)
CJ plays the main role of Zhao Zilong (Zhao Yun), and he helpfully compares the story to a game of weiqi in episode 16.
“A gambit [sacrificing insignificant pieces to protect the significant ones] is what Zhao Zilong did in the Battle of Changban. In order for Zhao Zilong to save A Dou, he couldn’t save Madam Gan. So, Madam Gan committed suicide. Isn’t Madam Gan a gambit?”
to which CP responds: “Thank goodness you are Zhao Zilong, and not Madam Gan.”
CJ: “The Crown Prince regards me as his soulmate [知己]. Even if in the future, the Crown Prince were to sacrifice me as a gambit, I would be willing.”
CP: “What are you saying? You and I are friends. No matter what happens in the future, I will never treat you as a sacrificial gambit.”
(so, like, death flags everywhere! 知己-mention! and, c’mon, i think for CP’s consort to be jealous/insecure is a little bit justified considering the amount of times CP has CJ perform this piece with a line like “Why worry over not having a wife”.)
Tumblr media
backing up for just a moment before everything goes to shit, other notable events are CP finding out his wife is pregnant in episode 13 (but he spends the day fishing and then cooking the fish with CJ at the riverside, and they walk off with arms draped around each other’s shoulders), CJ hurting his leg after climbing a cliffside to pick red flowers after CP mentioned his wife loves the color red most in episode 14, and finally CP leading a blindfolded CJ to a new house just for him to tick off another romance-y trope in episode 15.
CP: “Didn’t you say you didn’t have a home? So I bought you this little estate. When you fall in love someday, have children, and have a great career, this will be your home.”
(the point is they’re both still kind of in a honeymoon phase right now, tho it ends quickly in episode 16 when our FL Fu Rou warns CJ against being so close to CP—but CP is a little bit too idealistic right now, a little bit too stuck in his blissful fantasy, a little bit foolish. foolish, and incompetent, and unable to protect the people he loves bc he unwittingly endangered them to begin with.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
of course, things come to a head in episode 17 when CP’s wife tells her sister about CJ, leading to the Emperor eventually finding out. but while that’s happening, CP goes to see CJ at the estate he bought for him.
CP: In the future, I won’t come here anymore. Therefore, let’s put aside differences for today and be friends like we used to. We will never have those kinds of days again.
CJ confesses he’s going to leave Chang’an: I want to learn swordsmanship well, and become a wandering hero, feeling at home wherever I am. When the Crown Prince becomes Emperor in the future, I can help you take care of bad guys along my journey out there. This will be my way of helping the Crown Prince to keep the empire stable.
CP gives his dagger to CJ: This is not a reward, but a gift for my friend who is about to leave. In the future, whenever you look at it, it will be like looking at me.
CJ: A gift from my soulmate. Chen Ji will definitely take good care of it.
(for ppl who’ve watched Qing Ya Ji, the parallel to Zhongxing and Fangyue here killed me. but there’s also a parallel within the show itself near the end when Fu Rou gives the Emperor a collection of scrolls and explains that the late Empress hoped that he would treat her writings like he were seeing her—one of Court Lady’s many confirmations that CP and CJ should be read as a romantically by paralleling it to visible, het relationships. ALSO, CP has CJ perform Zhao Zilong again right after this conversation, like a last nail in the coffin.)
so the Emperor finds out in episode 18 and angrily orders CP to kill CJ himself, lest he be stripped of rank. Fu Rou warns CJ, but he refuses to escape.
If I run away, the Crown Prince will not be able to fulfill the Emperor’s order—what would happen to the Crown Prince? […] Life and death are not the most important things; the most important thing is to stay true to yourself.
and so CJ unsheathes the dagger CP gave him.
The Crown Prince regards Chen Ji as his soulmate, Chen Ji also regards the Crown Prince as his soulmate. ‘A man of service dies for the one who knows him.’ (An upright man can die for his soulmate.)
CJ quotes “士为知己者死” from Sima Qian’s 《史記·刺客列傳》Records of the Grand Historian, tho if you’ve watched Winter Begonia, it should probably also look familiar.
CP pushes aside the soldiers who’ve accompanied him on the journey to CJ’s home, but it’s too late: CJ took his own life, using the weapon CP gave him, in order to protect CP.
the chorus of Lu Hu’s 《万里》 Ten Thousand Li plays as CP staggers toward CJ’s lifeless body.
呼吸,想着你, When I breathe, I think of you
在梦里,在心里, In my dreams, in my heart
怪完相遇,怪自己, After I’ve finished blaming that we encountered each other, I blame myself
别离,痛彻心扉!Farewell, my heart is broken
(this is a song from the OST we hear multiple times with the other couples in the drama—and we also see many couples by the same river that CP and CJ would fish together by. i think, like, all the couples associated with this song except our main one have a BE…)
Tumblr media
in CP’s immense grief, he has the weiqi pieces from his last game with CJ glued to the board, never to be moved again, and he has the flowerbed outside flattened. we get our callback to episode 9: “Chen Ji has no family. I promised him that if he died, I would make him a grave.”
CP doesn’t meet FS until episode 37, but what the Emperor says in episode 19 about Chen Ji is what really makes the whole thing a tragedy.
You must be cautious when choosing friends. He would only have misguided you.
and that’s the thing, the Emperor isn’t wrong!!! it ultimately truly is the Crown Prince’s love for Chen Ji that destroys him. his love for Chen Ji ruins him, ruins the imperial family and threatens the dynasty as a whole. because when Fushui shows up, a man who shares Chen Ji’s face, the Crown Prince trusts him unconditionally—it’s the Crown Prince’s desperation to see any small part of Chen Ji again that leaves him vulnerable to FS’s manipulation: CP forgets who he truly is. because how could a man who looks like Chen Ji ever betray him?
CP is thrown from his horse in episode 37, striking his head upon a rock.
he wonders: Chen Ji, have I also died? Did you come here just to pick me up?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(but of course it’s FS, who was actually going to kill him but the soldiers arrived too quickly.) they meet officially in episode 38.
CP: I thought I was going to die. Dimly, I felt someone approach me—he wanted to save me. I originally thought it was Chen Ji who couldn’t bear for me to die, so his spirit appeared. I didn’t expect that it was you.
FS remarks that CP has brought up “Chen Ji” several times already; immediately, he understands that this is a weakness to exploit.
CP basically throws a temper tantrum in episode 39 when he discovers he will have a permanent limp from now on. (idk if it was an intentional parallel, but CJ also had a limp after falling from the cliffside in episode 14.) FS is the only person that CP allows to approach him, and FS gets him to eat grilled fish (which is apparently CP’s favorite food—how much of the people we love do we carry with us?)
FS acts innocent: I really am bad at lying; as soon as I lie, you see right through me.
it’s everything CP wants to hear.
CP tells him: When I fell off my horse, and was on my last breath, you came to my side and encouraged me to continue living. I’m now crippled and in despair, but you talked sense into me to eat grilled fish. Everything that has happened—if it were Chen Ji, he would also have talked sense into me, encouraged me. Sometimes, I feel that you are Chen Ji, just with a different face.
(obviously it’s the same face for us tho cuz he’s played by the same guy. but anyway, when FS comes clean about everything in episode 51, he mimics the words CP says here.
I am not Chen Ji. I, Yang Fushui, came to your side to find an opportunity to take revenge.)
back to episode 39, FS says he doesn’t want to be “another Chen Ji” because he doesn’t want to die so young—he’s afraid of death.
CP: I guarantee you that I won’t let anyone harm you. What happened to Chen Ji will never happen to you.
(and it’s true! FS gets away with so much goddamn shit because CP’s wife doesn’t dare criticize FS, and even the Emperor doesn’t after knowing what it’s like to see his son in such heavy grief. CP’s wife thinks this is her chance at making amends; she felt real remorse after CJ died, and honestly that line from It’s Quiet Uptown sums it up best: “If I could trade his life for mine/He'd be standing here right now/And you would smile and that would be enough.” a shame, of course, that CP was FS’s freaking main target. nobody wants to repeat the tragedy of Chen Ji, so no one questions Fushui.)
Tumblr media
but, like, FS isn’t truly even that subtle—it’s just that CP is so blinded by his love for CJ. from episode 46:
CP: I have taught you for so long, but you’re still terrible at playing.
FS: I am doing it on purpose. Only if I play poorly, will the Crown Prince be willing to continue teaching me.”
CP: Even you put on an act before me? […] You are the person I trust the most. Don’t lie to me.
(太子,你醒醒吧!)
so FS successfully sows discord between CP and his brother Prince Han; the Empress passes away (always sickly, but her illness was very much exacerbated upon seeing her beloved sons turn on each other); CP’s wife kills her own sister in what she believes is a beneficial political move for CP; Prince Han’s wife is wrongfully executed; Sheng Chujun is killed and silenced too after he discovers FS’s plans. CP stages a coup against Prince Han. (the man who looks like Chen Ji must only want the best for him, right?) FS gets away with everything and goes to visit CP in prison in episode 51.
AND HERE! HERE! FS is supposed to kill CP; that’s been his goal from the very beginning. CP hasn’t eaten for days in the prison, but FS shows up with a grilled fish and CP eats without a second thought that it could be poisoned.
but. FS has been at CP’s side for so long now. he’s orchestrated CP to lose everything. there is nothing left that CP could give to him but the mere fact that he’s still breathing.
in episode 49, FS poisons Lian Yan’er and Yan Zifang is obviously upset on behalf of blissfully ignorant, head-over-heels Ma Haihu.
FS: I will kill whoever gets in my way.
YZF: What about someone you love? If it was someone you loved, you would be just as ruthless, right?
FS: It is human nature to be greedy and selfish. Where does love come into play? This question—you’ve asked the wrong person.
(but FS’s expression changes. someone he loves? he’s startled, he looks afraid.)
FS ruined CP’s life; and at the same time, gave CP reason to live again. CP started playing weiqi again, his relationship with his wife improved; he started smiling again. there was a passionate fire to him that he never had before (this was his second chance to do everything right, to protect the people he loves!)... the kindling, unfortunately, was his trust in Prince Han and his parents. from episode 39, FS comes in and sits down next to CP after CP trashes his room during his tantrum.
CP: Do you know why I treat you differently from other people?
FS: Because I remind Your Highness of your friend who already passed away—Chen Ji?
CP never stopped loving CJ; he loved Fushui, because he never stopped treating him as Chen Ji. after the failed coup against Prince Han, CP smiles in prison in episode 51 when FS visits him.
CP: It was fate who made us each other's soulmate [知己]. [...] If you can continue living well, I wish that you live your life to the fullest, with both smiles and tears.
Tumblr media
how can Fushui bear to take the Crown Prince’s life when he’s received nothing but unwavering trust from him? when he explains who he truly is, when he calls CP foolish for trusting the wrong person, FS is on the brink of tears. his mouth trembles, his breaths shake. when the poison begins to take effect, and CP agonizingly reaches for him, FS takes his hand—just as CP gripped CJ’s lifeless hand so long ago, just as CP reached out to the person he thought was CJ when he fell from his horse. FS takes his hand, sobs, and gives him the antidote.
Tumblr media
(Consort Yan’s eunuch is, of course, outraged.
Yu He: If you can’t bear to kill him, then I will!
Fushui: I forbid you. [...] He has nothing left to lose. I forbid you from killing him.)
so, we have the Crown Prince, ruined by his love for Chen Ji—and Fushui, who both took and freely gave the Crown Prince’s life back to him. it’s a love story; it has always been a love story.
and finally, FS gets Ma Haihu killed in episode 53. he picks up the comb MHH carved for Lian Yan’er (a 定情信物!), and when he speaks, ends up telling the story of CP and CJ as well.
There was a woman who sacrificed her life for your bright future. You only needed to enjoy it, yet you took the road of self-destruction.
and then he remembers what CP said to him in the prison in episode 51.
CP: If, in this world, fate truly exists, then so do the hearts of men.
FS remarks now: If you have a heart, you will be easily hurt, or even lose your life.
heartless Fushui, who kills without batting an eye, who nearly upturned the entire Tang dynasty, who doesn’t know of love. in the end, he couldn’t bear to end the Crown Prince’s life.
so, yeah. these three broke my heart. i really wonder what Chen Ji would say to the Crown Prince when they see each other again at last in the afterlife. what the Crown Prince would say to Chen Ji. how violent love can be. what it means to live in someone’s memory. or maybe they would return to the river and spend a long day fishing together again.

Okay before I kinda log off this blog completely for my new account and bc I don't have any intentions on doing anything with the Avatar Lian/Zutara grandbaby au I'm just gonna leave my final thoughts on what it would have gone into for if anyone ever wants to do anything with it;
So Lians airbending master would have been Jesa obviously, as the two of them ran off together to go travel the world. They would have also been accompanied by a nonbinary character who was either gonna be a waterbender and healer to help Lian learn that side of her waterbending or a nonbender who was skilled with a sword. Her Earthbending teacher was gonna be a very patient and sturdy, very self reflective girl who would have helped Lian learn patience.
Her firebending instructor would actually have been a cousin of hers. Just...not a first cousin. It would have been Azulas grandson.
Azula had fled her own imprisonment and institutionalization and hidden in the Earth Kingdom, taking on the identity of being someone from the colonies. She lived out in either a small town or perhaps even Ba Sing Se where no one could find her, eventually found a partner tho he died when their only child was just a baby. She taught her child and grandchildren everything she could about Firebending but never revealed who they were to them.
Lian would have eventually found her and found out who she was and tried to learn Firebending from her because she knew how strong her Great Aunt was and figured it could werve to help redeem her and bring her back to their family.
This, however, is foiled and Azulas actually kidnapped by one of the antagonists and her grandson is begrudgingly forced to become Lians Firebending teacher while trying to track down his Grandmother.
One of the antagonists would have been the new head of a police force of Metalbenders -- a former student of Tophs who was banished from her school and he took whwt teachings he had gotten and used them to create a new take on the Dai Li -- who his father Long Feng had once been in charge of, a fact he kept hidden from the world. Since then they had become a privatized police force who spread across the Earth Kingdom qnd he was planning a bit of a coup to regain status for his family and even take over what would be Republic City.
He would, however, be working with a far bigger antagonist for his own gains.
I am talking about that Bitch; Zhao.
Zhao, while lost in the Spirit World, would find angry, dark hearted Spirits who had bitter feelings towards the Avatar, who was supposed to be the bridge and peacemaker between worlds, a Spirit themselves reborn every generation as a mortal human to keep the Balance.
(There would have been a whole storyline about this Spirit and I believe they would have been one of the Original Spirits, perhaps even having a connection to the original benders and the Lion Turtles, but was not going to be Raava and there was no Vaatu. Since this was an AU storyline, I was gonna go all in and go back to the scrapped concept the wiki talked about the Avatar being the Spirit of the Earth).
Zhao teamed up with one of the most powerful of the Dark Spirits who wanted power themselves and Zhao wanted out of the Spirit World to become a Conqueror. Essentially a Global Domination storyline using the advances in technology, going after the Original Benders and the last Lion Turtle, killing the Avatar while in the Avatar State, and finishing what Ozai started. Mostly because I feel like with there being Spirits still pissed off about what Kuruk and Yangchen had done (and hell you could even count Kyoshis era for the Father Glowworm thing) and Zhao just being left there it could have led to a very interesting team up and a threat of an antagonist and tying up loose ends completely.
Also him teaming up with the son of Long Feng who also wants power and status returned to his name and wants revenge becausr the Avatar and Azula fucked everything for his family. Why not go after two birds with one stone? And it shows the repercussions of some of these villains kinda not getting a full resolution as seems to be a pattern with some of the antagonists in Avatar.
Lian would have been forced to face all of this head on while still trying to figure out what being the Avatar means to her, learning how to bend the elements, running from the White Lotus who want to enforce how they believe the Avatar needs to be trained, and trying very hard on learning how to connect with Aang and her other past lives for help.
And mostly finding that guidance with Uncle Iroh after she gets stuck in the Spirit World on accident and he helps her out od that meditative state after a long cup of tea together bc he needs to spend time with his great great niece. I also think it'd be cool if she met Yue at one point.
And also when she takes down Zhao if she teamed up with the Original Benders. I am talking rainbow fire with the dragons. Getting help from the Badgermoles. Jesas Flying Bison helping wreck some shit. And most importantly her getting help from the Moon and Ocean Spirits and just. Absolutely going full Spirit Kaiju as a cinematic parallel to end Zhao. But that's just my thought process on that.
Messy, I know. And like there's a lot of thoughts I had I never wrote down or fully fleshed out but these were concepts I thought of while trying to work on the Lian storyline and just. I don't really feel up to trying to get all cohesive or in a proper fic or webcomic style so like. If anyone in this fandom wants to take this over and clean it up, be my guest, y'all can go fucking crazy with it if you want it. And if you don't, that's fine too.
Take care of yourselves guys. And if anyone wants my new blog, just shoot me an ask on here I may check back at some point on the messages.
Love y'all.

thank you once again @yibobibo for tagging me ♥ even if, like I said, this is pure torture. I have so many sons that I’ve given up on counting them sigh but here goes.
favourite male fictional characters.
I took it that this meant ten so am going with that (tho am not gonna try and put them into order). am also sticking to all the characters I loved this year. and gonna ramble and add gifs so cutting it here.
1. Liu Sang
The Lost Tomb Reboot/Reunion: The Sound of The Providence
Tumblr media
I have so much love for this boy it’s not even healthy. it’s a bit funny tho bc once I started tltr, I didn’t really like him and almost forgot about him as the first season ended. he just felt so annoying and bitter in what I saw him, even if I did get that he had a Tragic BackstoryTM (I felt for him but well. tltr really made him hard to like at first). but then they brought him back in the second season with his sad puppy eyes and inability to handle his thoughts on wu xie and being all touch-starved and pitiful and whatnot and baam, I had the adoption papers ready. he’s wonderful and so strong and so smart and amazing. and liu chang as his actor has been wonderful (and he’s so pretty my god, have you seen him??)
2. Shen Wei
Guardian
Tumblr media
never did I expect to just. fall into this hole after a year? I remember what a mess I was when I first watched guardian over a year ago, right after finishing the untamed. I was in shambles even as I knew how it would end. and now I’ve done this all again while also reading the novel and. my love for shen wei, especially bc it’s zhu yilong acting as shen wei? astronomical. I want to write poetry about him and his stupid responsibilities that he chooses to carry silently and his devotion to zhao yunlan and his love for his ppl and his didi and. I hope that one day I manage to write weilan bc I have this one idea and you can come pry it from my cold, dead fingers if it doesn’t get out there (am also super happy about the edit I made bc my god does he deserve at least that)
3. Cloud Strife
Final Fantasy VII
Tumblr media
ok so stepping into the video games territory now. I was waiting for the remake like crazy and it was everything to me once the quarantine hit during spring. the game is so beautiful and I felt like I looked at this gorgeous boy once and was ready to give him my heart (tbh am quite sure he owned my heart before I even learned to know him). he is tragic in so many ways (I’ve only scratched the surface of all of his pain I know) and I wish I could just. hug him a lot. he is kind and cares very deeply even if he hates to show it and I love it how remake showed him also just being a human disaster (some of his scenes are just. peak comedy). I would kill for his smile (I have already cried for it a dozen)
4. Geralt of Rivia
The Witcher (The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt)
Tumblr media
if there’s one grumpy, brickwall of a man I love, it’s geralt. I affectionately call him “papa wolf” while playing witcher 3 and his voice in it does things to me (I am just so fond of him ok, begone you dirty fuckers). I got introduced to him through the books and adored him in them bc he is so prickly and sarcastic and still so full of love even if he will never admit to it. he is the father figure I wish I could have in real life. (and yes, I’ve seen the tv series (or at least a couple of the first episodes) and it looks stunning but. this is my version of geralt and that’s the hill I will die on)
5. Xiaoge
Zhang Qiling, Daomu Biji (The Lost Tomb 2)
Tumblr media
(wow finding a gif for him was a pain, apparently I gotta learn how to gif or?) ah, my dear boy who I’ve ended up just calling xiaoge bc he seems to prefer it over his real name/title/whatever zhang qiling really is. I got introduced to him through tltr where we really didn’t get to know that much about him bc he was just... there. huang junjie was absolutely stunning tho and his soft smiles made me super fond, but only in the lost tomb 2 did I really fall in love with xiaoge as a character. I was surprised tbh bc I didn’t expect it to be this drama? I had so many doubts about the cast in tlt2 but they all delivered! and I think cheng yi’s xiaoge is now my favorite bc he somehow captured that softness and the pain of him? (and we do not talk about that buxun storyline tyvm) tho now that ultimate note is on the way, I gotta say that xiao yuliang does a wonderful job as xiaoge too!
6. Wu Xie
Daomu Biji (Ultimate Note)
Tumblr media
(sorry we have to go with a pingxie gif now but maybe it’s only fitting) tbh it’s hard to choose my favorite version of wu xie. I think all of the actors for him have done amazing job showing wu xie in different parts of his life (all of them are very distinct but still feel like the same person) but currently zheng shunxi takes the lead. I really wanted to put the reboot version of him here (bc I love that mature, relaxed and somehow very soft version of him and the angst is phenomenal and the thoughts he has about death... yeah) but I already have zhu yilong’s face here once so :’D wu xie is just one of those characters you cannot not like. he is so strong, so kind, so stubborn, so wonderfully stupid sometimes and in need of careful protection. I also adore it how smart he is and I could listen to him spew history facts for 10 hours straight (even if it was in a tomb full of blood zombies) ♥
7. Jiang Cheng
Jiang Wanyin, The Untamed
Tumblr media
my darling boy! my beautiful angry grape! I love him beyond words. I love him in all of his raging, misunderstood, stupid, sassy, constipated, abused, tragic, bitter, big hearted glory. I could write novels about him (and I did and am still writing oh boy) and his love for ppl and his inability to show that love and his loneliness and his issues. I could also write another novel for all of his outfits etc. bc damn, what a fashion king. he is just so great. he owns my soul. he deserves happiness and in this essay I will
8. Isana Yashiro
Adolf K. Weismann, K Project
Tumblr media
I rewatched k project this spring bc a) it’s one of my favorite animes ever (it just looks stunning with all the colors) and b) I love yashiro to bits. I remember falling in love with him when I first watched k project many years ago bc he was just so kind and bright. this time though, I ended up seeing another side of him and my god did I cry. he is... so sweet. he cares for others so deeply and is ready to sacrifice so much for them and his love for his two clansmen... yeah. I think I finally saw the tragedy of him too, all the pain and loneliness and insecurity he decides to hide behind his smile and obnoxious personality. he reminded me a lot of myself and watching him made my heart bleed in a good way
9. Qi Tiezui
Ba Ye, The Mystic Nine
Tumblr media
(wow am going to riot for the lack of all the gifs hhh) yes, we’re continuing with the dmbj universe that sucked me in big time this year. the drama of the mystic nine wasn’t probably that earth shattering for me as it somehow got boring more than once but I did love ba ye to bits. he was just... so nice? I got it that he was somehow this “comedic relief” in the drama with all of his funny scenes and ridiculous mannerisms but I could see the brilliance of him. he is warm and smart and kind of a romantic too and he cares for all of his friends so deeply? it was also sweet how protective of him his two zhangs were (does that run in the family? the tendency to imprint into one smart but disastrous man and keep him safe? maybe) and I really hope I knew more about him bc he seemed to have a lot of knowledge and a lot of impact to ppl’s lives (I yelled when they mentioned him in ultimate note, I miss him ;;)
10. Dorian Pavus
Dragon Age Inquisition
Tumblr media
(yes I’ve been replaying DA:I this year, this counts!) another darling boy! my lovely sass master son! I have so much love for him and his story in DA:I. he is my favorite companion (and his romance is my favorite too, probably obvious in the way am currently romancing him for the third time) and he has given me a lot of strength. the way he stands up against his father, how he’s ready to reform his homeland instead of walking away, how he’s so caring for those he sees struggling... it’s very warming and I feel like I’m safe with him. it feels a bit silly to say that but he really is that comfort character I will seek out when I just want to know am doing fine :’) (and I am so excited to see him again in DA4! probably?)
+ 11. Li Cu
Tomb of the Sea
Tumblr media
yes I cheated a bit (with my own rules lol) to fit li cu here. I didn’t really expect to like him or tomb of the sea as much as I did once I started it? I’ve seen leo wu elsewhere before this (battle through the heavens, nirvana in fire) and his face always makes me think about a sad puppy so maybe I just grew fond over li cu instantly bc he was... so hurt? the first episode really slaps you in the face with all of it, showing him being abused, wounded, kidnapped, tortured, used and then just very, very scared and broken. he continues being that throughout the whole drama and I feel like tomb of the sea (or sand sea or sha hai idk) is the darkest and angstiest story in the dmbj universe. I know it deserves to be bc this is a dark time for wu xie but... my darling li cu. I wish him only happiness ;; he was so strong and smart and wonderful in this and it was just so amazing to watch him grow and find his own place in the world just bc he did something himself (even when he got dragged into all of this bc of wu xie) also I support the wu xie adopts li cu -agenda
Honorary mentions:
Zhang Rishan, Xie Yuchen and Hei Xiazi from DMBJ universe. The Twin Jades of Gusu and Ouyang Zizhen from The Untamed. The Iron Bull and Fenris from Dragon Age games. Thane Krios, Kaidan Alenko and Jaal from Mass Effect games. The whole lot of Assassin’s Creed protagonists (especially Ezio Auditore and Shay Cormac). Adam Parrish and Ronan Lynch from The Raven Cycle. Neil Josten from All For The Game. Eduon and March from The Smoke Thieves. Qiling from L.O.R.D. Critical World. Luo Fei from Detective L (played by Bai Yu).
well, with this I can really see that I have a thing for those who are tragic :’D I have a thing for grumpy, prickly and antisocial guys or those who hide their pain behind a smile. maybe it’s bc I am somehow both, even if I can’t show my anger or be mean to others and even if I feel like my smile never sticks either. I just find kinship in all of the characters who are on this list. and I feel like I aspire to be as strong and as kind and as loving despite all the pain I’ve been put through.
thank you, this was so much fun! and sorry I made this so long and so complicated ^^’ but well, there are just way too many male characters I love haha
at the end I want to tag @i-am-just-a-kiddo @ashenwren @kholran @tiesanjiao @lan-xichens @aheartfullofjolllly @manhasetardis and @lzswy ♥ feel free to do this in your own way or not at all! and thank you if you managed to read through my rambling :’D

atla pirate au
(soley based on me misreading a diff post and now wanting to see mai in a keira knightly getup) (also everything i know abt pirates is based on the pirates of the caribbean, treasure planet and black sails and hasty 2 am googling) (also also big fucking shoutout to @s-suki for helping me with this)
the gaang's ship - aka The Avatar
yue is captain!!! (@s-suki ur brain is huge and i luv u) so from what i know being a captain is a looot abt politics and u know our girl yue is good at that, not to mention how much her crew loves her bc she gives everything for them
sokka is navigator, one look at the stars and he knows where they are instantly, he charts a course in record time, captains have in fact fought over him but he is nothing but loyal to his captain!!!
aang spends at least half his time in the sails, as lookout and keeping knots secure(? idk shit abt sailing haha) he’s also the fastest one they got, no matter if he’s running, swimming or paddling a small boat
suki is the best fighter they have bc of course she is (also theres no misogyny in this bc i said so) grown men shit themselves when they see her / also shes boatswain (the boatswain was in charge of a ship's anchors, cordage, colors, deck crew and the ship's boats, and would also be in charge of the rigging while the ship was in dock)
toph! makes! bombs! also if u give her a gun that u found thats been underwater for three months and u give her like 2 hours, not only is it completely functional afterwards but it somehow works better than before?
katara is quartermaster and shes def like 30% of how yue keeps her crew in line
haru is ship cook (i know this has zero connection to canon but have you considered boi soft and warm like bread)
teo is the ships carpenter (highest ranking if they got more than one)
jet is a fighter obvs, also him and sokka do NOT get along but yue has this real icy stare that makes them both shut up immediately
smellerbee is dating toph and yue is not opposed to their relationship but does make sure theyre not around eachother too much when explosives are also near bc those 2 def get up to some wild shit
longshot is obvs the best shot they have and is the other lookout
appa is a parrot and he spends all of his time being adorable
momo is still a lemur and just steals so much shit
on to the firenation
ozai rules over a whole ass port/island or smth idk but like all the pirates have to deal with his fucking bullshit
zhao is his 2nd in command and yue at some point guts him 😊
azula is of course captain of her ship and she rules with an iron fist
mai is first mate (making any possible future betrayals that much worse)
ty lee is ship medic and just constantly gets underestimated in fights and wins like right away
zukos life motto on azulas ship is 'i hate it here' bc his job is basically everything nobody else wants to do (until! he is no longer on the ship. does he get pushed off the ship to drown? does he leave in the night with all the valuables he can carry and a map of a great prize? idk, YOU DECIDE)
more thoughts on zuko:
i dont think he’d join the gaang right away after he’s no longer with the fire nation but would first like half-die on some island (even if he didn’t get kicked off, i just imagine he’d do smth drastic like think he can sail a ship without getting lost just bc he’s spent a lot of time on a ship but like, honey no, navigation isnt as easy as it looks) bc zuko alone u kno
iroh is still his uncle in this, but zuko doesnt know that, so he thinks he’s just this weird hermit guy that finds him and takes him in
zuko is like "what does he want? what his secret agenda? how will this guy use this against me?" and iroh is just like "boy! eat something but also are u like okay? u want some cryptic advice thats consisting of 60 ocean metaphors?"
iroh does tell him hes his uncle tho and that he left when zuko was really young and he wasnt the only one who ran from that house that day...
URSA IS ALIVE!
she had been banished by ozai and threatened with zukos murder if she had stayed, ozai wouldve killed her but he knew he couldnt take her in a straight fight and if she had been the type you could assassinate they wouldntve ever gotten together anyway
now shes vibing with iroh and lu ten, because yes lu ten is alive (listen if there is any feasable way of my boi to be alive he is!!!)
also they’re def supporting everyone who opposes ozai as asafely as they can on whatever weird remote island theyre at
once zuko joins the crew of the avatar, sokka laughs like straight five minutes abt zuko thinking he could navigate his stolen boat after not even learning how to properly read a map, not to mention everything else that goes into navigating and zuko is like "fuck u" and sokka is like "lets show u how to read a map so this doesnt happen again" still with tears of laughter in his eyes, and maybe later when hes been on the crew for longer and maybe saved sokkas life in a fight, sokka teaches him abt the stars too and cue zuko pining after the way too beautiful guy trying to explain constellations but zuko just keeps getting lost in his eyes and being hyper aware of how close sokkas arm is when he points out specific stars
the reason zuko joins them in the first place is bc the avatar is the only crew that could protect him against azula and ozai and they’re the only ones willing/able to go up against the fire nation
also katara is the first to see zuko after he parted with the fn and she like immediately has a sword to his throat and boi just fucking faints
maybe jee is also a captain in this bc i really like it when the wani shows up in fanfics and maybe they’re not on good terms with ozai but they’re flying under the radar bc its just a small ship and they do bring in their percentage so maybe zuko joins his crew before he goes to find the gaang?
now some general thoughts:
the dai lee is the chinese navy out to get them all
miyuki is one of their highest ranking officers and gives the pirates a run for their money, but weirdly never goes to chase the Avatar
hakoda is also a captain but he’s working under ozai to take the operation down from the inside (also yes of course his husband bato is also there with him ^^)
kue is absolutely some weird hermit guy
once again big thanks to @s-suki for helping me with this check out their blog theyre great! (theyre on break rn tho but dont let that deter u!!)
if anyone wants to add to this PLEASE do!!! also if anyone draws or writes smth for this please please please tag me bc i would love to see it!! (also i will love u forever ♡)

Soulmate AU with Zukaang
Aang went into the iceberg at 16 okay? Okay.
Soulmate au: nation soulmarks
When you turn 13 you get a soulmark that identifies what nation your soulmate is from. However in the case of Aang and Zuko, given that Aang is yknow, in the iceburg. Zuko's mark instead forms as something like frost bite scars on the back of his neck and chest. While Aang simply had a small red flame on his right palm.
Basically let's go with the moment when Aang gets out of the iceburg, Sokka thinks he's a traitor because of the beam and because of the mark. But eventually katara and him still go with him on the journey to master the elements.
It takes until the north pole for Zuko to admit to himself that Aang is his soulmate, after the time he broke him out of that prison as the blue spirit his frostbite scars healed and formed a grey and yellow swirl starting at the back of his neck and tracing around the left to just below his chest. And it takes being beside Aangs glowing form to admit that Aang was his soulmate. It was at the moment when he managed to wake up while his uncle and the group were surrounding Zhao that he decided his own fate. He decided to help them
He was beside his uncle in mere seconds ready to battle with them and the gaang only gave him a single glance.
After Zhao attacked the fish Zuko went chasing after him of course ending with Zhao dead and him running to find his Uncle and and the group, minus Aang, by the pond and Princess Yue in spirit form. She took a moment to look at him and smiled "thank you Zuko" and with that she turned back to Sokka and kissed him goodbye before disappearing.
He just stood there unsure as to what happened. He managed to join the group and when they got to warmer weather he had no choice but to expose his soulmark. To which the whole group just stared at him like wtf.
And he just shrugs it off like "yeah, it used to be covered in frost bite scars but after I broke Aang out of Zhao's prison they healed up and well, yknow, now they're this"
And Aang just atares at him like "so you were just gonna join us and not tell me you were my soulmate? Wtf man?"
"Figured it would be an unfair thing to say when I'm only trying to gain a bit of trust and not trying to manipulate you. I mean hey, if someone came up to me and was like 'I know I chased you all around the world and tried to kill you, but I found out we're soulmates and I've just now come to terms with it so uh, you should let me join' I'd feel like they were manipulating me... cuz like if your soulmate rejects you in a situation like that they could die so its like this added pressure I guess"
"You dont even have to know about it tho Zuko! If we said no you could have still died!"
"Yeah but it wouldn't be on your conscience y'know?"
And cue the gaang scolding Zuko for the way he looked at his own death in the situation.
>this got away from me because I was so close to writing it out in more detail but I just wanted to do a prompt, um anyways, he joins after the north pole<

Ep 6 was so good I need to rewatch it again.
So many great lines about how shady wen kexing is. So many where both him and zzs are lying through their teeth completely at each other, and they have no real reason to trust (but against reason they just Do because they click so well and are lying the same and glaringly obvious to the point they feel comfortable wearing their masks and knowing the other person Knows). Like wen kexing is so clearly following zzs to cause a disaster, killed that ghost on purpose so he wouldn’t be a loose thread zzs could interrogate, zzs clearly gives him the glazed armor piece to bait wkx, wkx says eagerly it’s a gift from zzs so he’ll wear it out on a string to admire! Which is - (some spoilers to ep 10)*
Wow that line is so fucked on so many levels. One, he’s framing it as a romantic gesture which goes perfect with the actual flirting he does so zzs can’t call it out (it also darkens that flirting with the very real edge that wkx may use it at times to manipulate). Second, he’s telling the truth - he plans to get it stolen, to start up drama as people fight over it. And when it happens zzs won’t be able to call it out even tho it’s so clearly orchestrated. And the worst part - when people start dying, Zhou zishu is going to remember wen kexing going “this is my first gift from you! I’m going to wear it on me and admire it!” And Zhou zishu is going to feel like a monster Again. For so perfectly being part of an orchestration of so many deaths. And it started with “his gift.” Because he IS the one who chose to give it to wen kexing to bait him. Zhou zishu does it on purpose - WANTS to see what wen kexing will do, to figure him out. So he leaves open the floodgates for wen kexing to start causing the deaths, zzs even might see the potential coming (not hard given they both know people kill for this glass and wen kexing has 0 pity for the casualties involved, never has any pity for the dead as they come across bodies). Zhou zishu is tian chuang leader Retiree, hes well aware mass deaths is an outcome of wen kexing wearing that glass out in public (even if it didn’t get stolen just if wkx had been sighted and any fight from sects over it started). But Zhou zishu still chooses to do it. So in his mind I’m sure “gift from you!” Is just. On replay. Even retired he’s making dangerous choices that are ending lives.
So MUCH of their conversations this ep was so good. And so plot heavy? I feel like I didn’t even catch it all? And wen kexings scheming is so obvious, but so is zzs being from a shady background. The fact he says he made the sleeping dream poison, the fact he says yeah whatever I’m a killer fuck off now then mr good person wen kexing. I have so many thoughts on their characters I can’t articulate rn.
Then I finally paid Attention to the songs?? Wow all those lyrics? They are. So perfect for tian ya ke? The song when they fight over the lake is Perfext. How zzs feels guilty for all the dead he left in his wake, how he wants to find a soulmate (me too bro), how they’ll be split apart in this world (foreshadowing), how he’ll find him again??? Wow just. Wow. And I’m mixing up the songs possibly so forgive that. In either this one or the end show song they also mention giving up fighting and just wandering, there’s so many families in the world - aka end goal for this little family being carved out. And the end show song literally ends on “I’ll spend my life together with you”. Well I can only assume that is the end game of the show? And right as That lyric plays it shows wen kexing and Zhou zishu with Zhang chengling between them like a family, then as that last lyric of “be together with you” it’s the two of them together in a field wandering the world together. This is. Why did I just not pay attention? Also this bodes? Real well for the family’s safety by the end of this drama. I also caught an image of scorpion leader and Zhao sect leader talking close together and smiling softly in the end credits??! Idk if they actually know each other or simply Will become close during the course of the show but I did not Predict that. Also what might be gu Xiang getting married as another scene (tho this could just have been any event I just jumped at the idea ToT)
And then finally - story in general. Which I can’t even say everything I wanna say about. Yes it’s a romance, and yes it’s a very thorough story Too. I’m so happy we are getting a priest adaptation because this kind of rich world filled with characters and meaningful things happening is <3. Also amazing work by the scriptwriter because they expanded the story a bit so I imagine a lot of how well this story will come together is their doing. And it’s incredible as of ep 6. The writing is So tight. Not only is it fast paced, it feels suited to the type of episode watching where a fun to watch main activity/activités happen per ep, even if an arc is still working on being resolved. Each episode generally in this a mini situation will happen and be resolved - and it’s a piece of the larger plot going on. It’s hard to articulate but like in long form stories that do not choose case/situation of the week formats, sometimes individual eps will not have things that make them strong individually at times? Idk if I’m wording what I mean. Like i have loved a few shows that were fun to watch but situations didn’t always resolve a little per episode, I had to leave on cliffhangers or wait for a build up to finally hit. With this show I feel like eps often do end on suspenseful cliffhangers, but also there’s usually some satisfying resolution of a smaller part (and since right now the driving mystery is where are the glazed armor pieces and what is ghost clan/the sects doing/the palace regarding it, pretty much any mini event it a clue to build that up - or is wkx the bad guy etc). In ep 6 the ghost manor and wkx killing the ghost is a resolution of last ep cliffhanger (and zzs waking from his illusion was a partial resolution last ep), zzs identity is revealed another resolution, they get a glass piece (resolution in finding one/new development), the sects start transporting Zhang chengling (new development), scorpion leader joins the fray with the ghosts then abandons the place later (new addition), wen kexing starts his plan into motion (new addition), Zhang cheng ling is in danger so new development and looming issue for next ep alongside the tian chuang agent who arrived in pursuit, the girls gu Xiang Rescued also get some resolution as their situation is clarified and they decide where they want to be and stay there - and gu xiangs learning responsibility continues. Basically like.. not just is pacing tight, but it’s a balance of resolutions, some self contained new additions, some developments, and some looming future situations being built up. It is really good so far. I did not need to rant this much about it sorry ToT
Also in writing: I love how RICH the world is?? When I first started I assumed like some shows I’ve seen names were getting thrown around but a lot of these people would ultimately not be important for long. With the sects: learning a lot remain important and get Development, so they are decent characters Themselves, and even the dead characters continue to be used to help the plot (the dead Ai sect leader is brought up post death regarding ramifications, later some fighters in white in ep 9 will die and their significance even as only cultivators in the distance will be both foreshadowed and used later in weight to themes). The dead bodies from last ep, fairly sure 1 is referenced to a sect leader in this ep “oh where is he? You should check on him.” The dead get remembered even tho they drop like flies, and they’re being used well in the story. Even the fire at Zhang chenglings house - now the sect leaders demand to know what happened, say his mom and dad burned, and he says he had a fever and doesn’t remember (did he learn from zzs to not trust ?? Maybe). And the world is so rich with characters. Memorable characters. Seeing the end credits and actually paying attention, a lot will be sticking around and likely Getting development. Will even be in very different places from where we start - again the scorpion leader and zhao sect leader will be acting kind and warm to each other so??! Wtf will be happening. And there’s already hints all these side characters may be handled with some care - gu xiangs servants. She saves them, and in some shows I love they’d be mindless backdrop now. Instead they get another establishing scene of tjem ad people instead of the prisoners they were before, a fun scene, and then them expressing their wishes for their life, and then a resolution (wen kexing gives them a choice to leave with money, they choose to stay - and I dread they’ll regret it and wkx might kill them when he snaps but idk what will happen anyway). And the resolution allows them a complete little mini story (prisoners who’ve always been sold like they said, saved, treated as people and deciding their own lives and choices, choosing to stay here where they prefer). Now even if they don’t get further screen time focus, they had a moment to have a little resolution. If other characters get this consideration? Wow. Obviously the main family group will. But with zhao daxia who’s a weakling who coasts on his riches (and it keeps coming up louder) have an arc?? Will the old lady in pink who wants revenge? The ghost lady with her fawning maid servants who punishes cheaters, will she? Will the assassins? In ep 9-10 Zhou zishu sees a group of 4 who have left the fighting and live a happy life - stuff goes down. But even that small amount of screentime is a story of who they were, that they probably had past sins like him to some degree of things done while fighting, and then getting hold of the glass shard caught it up with them. Even as very periphery characters their existence is meaningful in the story. I love it. The writing I am loving.
I love how I genuinely don’t know how any of this will go down. Wen kexing is treading right inside prime bad guy territory. Zhou zishu is chilling in anti hero zone and even tho he’s made some heroic choices (mostly about his son) so far, he’s also linked up with wen kexing to the level he feels like they’re soulmates by ep 9. He also helped on purpose to some extent whay wkx has been doing - first cause he didn’t care it wasn’t his business, then to bait him into seeing who he was, then because he trusted wkx even if dangerous to not do anything zzs would regret (bad call there). Inherently they are both not great decision makers when it comes to crossing lines. They’re both very much messes who have their own baggage who tend to keep sliding into it. Zhou zishu planned to safely wander and affect nothing. But now he’s attached to a kid and doesn’t want this one good person hurt - who he’s managed to keep alive instead of get killed.
And oh that LINE “you don’t want to see my face, pretty much anyone who has died.” And wen kexing “well I’m afraid of a lot, but luckily not death” RIGHT before the lake fight. Zhou zishus self hatred Screaming right there. And also his inability to put a lid on the fact he might actually care about wen kexing a little Pre reveal of his face. Which is all! Wow. Wow I can’t believe. This show managed to capture the vibe of zzs and wkx clearly lying and playing each other and pushing to investigate the other and figure things out and maybe even use them, with the fact they’re both regardless still falling in love and feeling comfortable Because they’re Both like this and Trusting. Trusting another Man they both know is not trustworthy. Loving another man they know is just as likely to ruin what they touch as they are. Zhou zishu doesn’t want wen kexing to die because he’s seen zzs’s face - maybe in part he cares for wkx, maybe in part he just can’t handle the guilt of any more people dying because of him regardless of what they’re up to. That line says so much about his character. And wen kexing - every lie he tells and act he puts on as good guy peaceful is woven into very real flirting and genuine feelings. He does want to keep hanging out with zzs, for the companionship. He probably thinks it’s convenient to do his sneaky things with zzs’s heroics as an excuse to get into the manor - and zzs close to his attention so zzs can’t sneak up on him and catch him. But also like, he doesn’t need to keep zzs there - zzs would leave. But he wants the company, as much as zzs knows wkx is suspect as fuck. Zhou zishu is still incredibly relieved to find someone who hes less likely to get killed, who can handle themselves, who can tag along with him on Whatever bullshit and - not mind, not listen when he’s being destructive, be supportive the whole time, and encourage him to be better. Wkx might be up to shit - but he shares zzs’s world view that warriors aren’t particularly innocent so wkx won’t be mad if zzs doesn’t care about their missions or saving world plans. Wkx also will see he Is capable of helping a kid, and encourage him to. Tell him he’s good at it, tell him he’s warm hearted. And on one level to zzs it’s the same bullshit acts they’re playing onto each other. But in the other - wen kexing the fucker does Genuinely think zzs is kind hearted! And zzs believes it a little, when wkx says it. Believes it a little more when wkx helps with Zhang Chengling. And they’re both monsters and distasters still in Full Form which is clear when they play each other. But. Somehow when they’re together they get this hope they could be happy, could be at peace, could be softhearted and safe to laugh and smile and look in pain and rely on someone and take care of someone and be good at it. Be gentle and loving and good. They are both messes in their own way, but somehow when they interact - they both bring out the natural inclinations they get (wkx to destroy rn, zzs to let things unfold with casualty), but they also bring out wanting to do better. I saw peaks of ep 10 but haven’t watched it yet. But if zzs reaction is any indication, having him around might motivate wen kexing to want to care more about the consequences of what he does. To start noticing them and not trying to look past and ignore (this is just me speculating idk). But even without it, it’s already clear they bring out the good. Bring out the good, and make each other’s normal feel safe and allowed to be a person who’s got the ability to do better.
Zhang Chengling is really the sign. With wkx encouraging, zzs really gets attached to wanting to help. Wkx ends up rather actually nurturing by proximity and by what he’s been encouraging zzs. They’re both playing - zzs sticking around at first primarily to make sure wkx didn’t try something to Zhang chengling as a threat for the glazed armor, then bonding with the kid as wkx encourages it. Wkx ending up saving the kid because he Decided to tag along and zzs roped him into it, deciding to help the kid to get closer to zzs, and it gets to a point where on some level he’s helping just as much cause he cares as any selfish reason or manipulating zzs reason. It is remarkably fascinating how when each other are in play they can embody their usual dangerous traits but because of each other those come out supportive in result. And on some level they are aware, and part of why they maybe feel so Comfortwble with each other. So willing to trust even tho they both know better than to trust people like them. Why they both feel so safe with the other as a companion. They know even if they act on their dangerous instincts, they won’t destroy the other - in fact it might even channel into something safe and comfortable and supportive. They know if it doesn’t, the other is strong enough to call them out. They’re an even match and it can only be terrifying or comforting. And they fall into the comforting.
I was originally into how I love how much potential all the Broad world story implications have but I got sidetracked by wenzhou ToT. Anyway I just. Wow now that I’m paying attention I can TELL attention to detail is all over the place. And with something this well written and unfolding so far? I cannot even imagine how well it’s going to build up and grow and culminate.

Ninjago/Avatar au Pt6
The second half of Book 2 (hopefully)
(Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5)
So Garm finally reads the letter from Wu. It starts off as a normal pseudo-journal entry, but after it mentions finding the Garms old armor, but no body, it turns into more of a normal letter. Wu says that he’s missed his brother since he was banished, and that he hopes that they’ll be able to see eachother again soon if Garm is alive, and ends with Wu saying that he normally burns the letters he writes to Garm, so that no-one else finds them, but that he feels hopeful that this one could actually get to him. It’s touching stuff.
Lloyd picks up earthbending almost immediately, unlike Aang. The element Lloyd is going to struggle to learn is fire (if you don’t count his airbending being self-taught. He picked up airbending really, really fast, but bc he’s been making stuff up and trying to do what Maya did with her waterbending [Maya’s had decades to hone her style tho, not just three-ish years, but he’s like someone learning ballet only from YouTube, for only a couple of months] since there are no more airbenders [or so they think, bc none of them saw Morro airbend at the North Pole]), and I’ll get into why that is when it comes up. They haven’t had Garm start to teach Lloyd any firebending bc they’re trying to go in the order as much as they can, but Garm has finally convinced Kai to learn more than just the basics, and he picks it up really quickly.
Meanwhile, Morro is taking care of an injured Wu (and accidentally making him suffer through poorly-made tea). Now, Morro is onboard with Wu wanting to leave the Fire Nation behind; unlike Zuko, Morro isn’t trying to win back the favor of some distant parent, the only family he’s ever known is Wu, and he’s not about to abandon Wu for a bunch of people who would probably kill him as soon as they could no matter what he did for them, and Harumi made it clear that no-one in the Fire Nation is going to be extending them any mercy.
Once Wu wakes up, Morro does yell at him for doing something as stupid as taking a hit from a well-trained firebender to protect a stranger (Wu hadn’t gotten around to telling Morro ‘hey, you know that guy with the big burn scar who’s traveling with the Avatar? That’s my dead-but-not-really-dead older brother. Pls stop trying to stab him’, and Morro wasn’t there when Garm revealed his identity in the North Pole), until Wu tells him that Garm is his brother. This leads to Morro yelling out ‘You mean to tell me that the Avatar is my cousin?!?!’ And that how Wu learns that Lloyd is Garms son (’wait, what?’ ‘Have you really gone this long without noticing that the Avatar calls your brother his dad?’ ‘I’ve had a lot on my mind, give me a break!’), and now he thinks that Garm and Maya are married with three kids, one of whom is the Avatar.
They make their way to Ba Sing Se, with the help of the White Lotus. Wu isn’t the leader of them (he isn’t super old in this au, imagine what he looked like in S9, with the mustache), but he is a fairly respected member. I still haven’t come up with a Jet character who would work, and I am open to suggestions. If I do find a good character, they will definitely throw hands with Morro (mb Shade? Just cut out the romance subplot in S1 and pick a couple of EM’s to be the other freedom fighters?). And yes, Wu does get his tea shop in the upper ring (Steep Wisdom), and Morro tries to be happy and supportive, but even though he is fine leaving the Fire Nation with Wu, it does still feel like he wasted years of his life, both in chasing the Avatar and just trying to prove himself to everyone back in the Palace, so he’s pretty grumpy.
Now back to Team Avatar: at Maya and Garms insistence the kids have been picking out their little mini-vacations. They know that they only have a limited amount of time before the comet arrives, but Garm and Maya want these kids to be able to be, y’know, kids, at least a little bit, in spite of the fact that they’re growing up in a war-torn world. Kai want’s to check out that glacier-spring place by the desert, it’s kinda underwhelming, but they get fruity drinks out of it. This whole time Kai and Cole have been getting closer to each other. Kai feels a little guilty, like he’s betraying Zane’s memory, but talking to Maya and Garm about it does help him start to feel better, and it helps his over-protectiveness start to abate a little.
Jay wants to pick a really cool mini-vacation to impress Nya, and he asks the people who are in the glacier place if there’s any place around those parts, and ends up learning that about a year ago some lady showed up saying something about a huge spirit library in the desert that she was looking for. They never saw her again after that, and figure that she must have died out in the desert. When pressed (and payed) one of the artistically inclined staff members roughly recreated the sketch of the library, and vaguely remembered the area on the map she said she was going to search, and with that Jay has his mini-vacation picked out.
They set off and find the library. Cole chooses to stay outside with Ultra (who can’t fit inside) bc he thinks they’ll be safer if the only earthbender stays outside incase something goes wrong, and if they need to get out of there fast he’d only slow them down with his legs. Everybody else heads into the library and meet Wan Chi Tong (did I spell that right? I’m too lazy to check), who agrees to let them use the library if they 1) don’t intend to use the contents of the library against anyone else and 2) contribute something to his library.
Lloyd and Nya both use their wanted posters (they both thought they were awesome [Lloyd bc he’s 13 and Nya bc you can’t convince me that Nya wouldn’t be thrilled to have a wanted poster bc she’s been fucking with a tyrannical regime] and incredibly accurate considering the art had to have been done by someone using other people’s descriptions, and they totally intend on framing and hanging at least a few of their posters up in their rooms when all this is over), Kai has a copy of a poem that Zane wrote for him, Garm has his brothers letter (he doesn’t want to give it up, but he has nothing else), Jay has a blueprint from one of his inventions, and Maya has a copy of a story in a series that Koko had brought back to the South Pole over the years. Wan Chi Tong comments that about a year ago a researcher had arrived and had offered him another part of the the same series. He mentions that they should be careful, as she never left, and has been primarily researching the Avatar.
Everyone has an idea of who this mysterious researcher could be (except Jay), but they decide to be cautious all the same, just incase she isn’t who they think she is. They all start discreetly searching for anything that could be used to help them fight the Fire Nation, and they end up finding and empty placard saying something about ‘the Darkest Day in Fire Nation History’, but when they go to check part of the section on Fire Nation (that library was enormous, y’all cannot tell me that Zhao was able to destroy absolutely everything that the library had on the Fire Nation. It could only have been the last few decades/mb centuries of Fire Nation history), as well as a campsite that was full of scrolls having to do with the Avatar and different bending techniques (and a few misc scrolls about random things like cooking, engineering, etc). As they’re poking around the campsite, who else comes around the corner but Koko!
She has her nose buried in a scroll as she’s walking, so she doesn’t notice them all until Lloyd happily calls out ‘Mom!’, and goes in for a hug. Koko drops the scroll and has a happy reunion with her son and husband, as well as with Maya, Kai, and Nya, and she and Jay are introduced to each other. Koko explains that she’s been able to stay in the library so long was bc she managed to get the fox assistants to like her enough to start bringing her food and water. She also explains that she’s been doing nonstop research into the Avatar State, the Air Nomads and airbending, and the Fire Nation (though she’s really quiet about that part so they don’t catch Wan Chi Tongs attention and ire) and shows them that planetarium thing and that she discovered the eclipse. (How did she make it out to the library without a flying companion or something? SHe’s just that much of a badass.)
Koko had been saving up supplies and charting a course out of the desert, and planning to leave the library as soon as she could, but now that they’ve showed up with Ultra she can just grab her things and go. Someone, probably Jay, gets a little too vocal about how they have a chance to beat the Fire Nation, and cue Wan Chi Tong sinking the library and trying to add them to his ‘collection of specimen’. Garm and Koko are a dynamic duo, with Garm distraction the angry spirit while Koko gathers all of her scrolls and supplies together while Maya gets the kids to the exit.
Meanwhile, Cole is holding up the library, and trying to help Ultra fend off the sandbenders that showed up to capture and sell the dragon. Cole is able to put up a bit more of a fight than Toph was (meaning that he was able to get one or two good hits in) bc being in the desert doesn’t impair his vision (the sand does tank his mobility just as much as it would anyone with prosthetic legs tho), but he isn’t able to stop them or even hold them off long enough for everyone else to get out. Cole, despite being initially afraid of the large dragon, had quickly grown to be one of Ultras favorite people in their group (like, third favorite. Kai will never admit that he’s jealous), and is pretty upset that he wasn’t able to save him. More on Ultra later.
So Lloyd is really upset about losing his companion, just as much as Aang was. He doesn’t act out (for lack of a better word) as intensely as Aang, since Ultra wasn’t the last thing he had left of his people like Appa was for Aang, but Lloyd is still rightfully pissed off. He takes off shakily on his glider, leaving everyone behind before trying to search for Ultra and the sandbenders, ignoring his families protests. Koko starts working on getting them out of the desert using the route she had plotted out (using the sun and shadows to orient them and get started in the right direction), and starts planing out how long her food and water (she had the good sense to bring those from the library) will last between all of them. The answer is: not long enough.
Kai (and mb Jay too) is the one who has the bright idea to drink the cactus juice, bc while Kai, like Sokka, (and Jay tbh) is smart enough to know that drinking a strange liquid out of an unfamiliar plant is a bad idea, but the fact that it is a stupid idea doesn’t stop him. Wait, y’know what? Jay definitely tries the cactus juice, but instead of acting as out-of-it and inebriated as Kai does, he acts like he does in S9, weirdly chill and disconnected from reality. He’s still tripping balls, but he’s reacting to it differently from Kai. Cole just ends up carrying Kai piggy-back, even though the sand makes it harder for him to move (he’s crushing, and he’s the only one [adults included] whose physically strong enough to carry him for long periods of time) (also Kai awkwardly and drunkenly flirts with him. Everyone pretends not to notice for Coles sake) and everyone else takes turns holding onto Jays wrist and leading him through the desert or else he would have wandered off and died.
Lloyd gets back to them, landing hard in the sand, holding back tears bc even though he’s upset and could use a good cry he knows that they need to conserve as much water as they can. He’s got his family there to comfort him (even if Kai and Jay are kinda incapacitated atm), which does help him a bit, but he’s still rightfully upset. They find the abandoned sandbender skipper thing, find the vulturewasp hive, and come across the sandbenders. Cole is able to pinpoint the sandbender (no idea who this guy would be, Ninjago character wise) who lead the others to take Ultra via his voice bc Cole a) was trained in a myriad of performing arts thanks to his father, primarily singing b) has perfect pitch and c) never forgets a voice bc of that.
Lloyd goes full Avatar State, but is comforted and calmed down by his parents while everyone else books it. The sandbenders tell them that they sold Ultra to some guys who were going to take him to Ba Sing Se, and then they take them out of the desert (with the sandbenders getting the Death Glare from all of Team Avatar the whole way. Koko totally punches the sandbender who lead the others to steal Ultra once they’re out of the desert.)
They make their way to Ba Sing Se on foot, with Lloyd trying to get a handle on his emotions (and worrying everyone in the process), and they run into a family with an expecting mother/wife (I am also taking suggestions for who these characters could be. I’m pretty tired while typing this so I can’t think of anyone) and try and get on a ferry to Ba Sing Se. Cole, whose father is well known and wealthy, uses that fact, his double amputee status (he ‘accidentally’ slips out of one of his prosthetics. Kai catches him before he hits the ground), and his acting skills to get them tickets without passports.
And we get best girl Pixal back! She helps Team Avatar help the pregnant family go through the Serpents Pass, and it goes pretty similar to cannon, except instead of a situation where Sokka is overprotective of Suki, Jay picks up on how much Pixal likes Nya, and sees that Nya, his crush, reciprocates those feelings, and gets a bit passive-aggressive w/everyone, but Pixal especially. It doesn’t last long, bc Jay is a hormonal teenager who realizes he’s being a dick fairly quickly, but it does help fizzle his crush on Nya a bit (sorry again to any hardcore Jaya shippers who were hoping for that in this au, but it’s really not my cup of tea).
They also help deliver the couples baby, but Maya and Koko are the ones helping take care of that. Team Avatar get to the outer wall, just to see a huge Fire Nation drill heading closer and closer to the wall, ready to start tearing through it...

Watching inception on Netflix. Think it would make a good au for guardian or the untamed? Love it with guardian.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
INCEPTION WAS MY GO-TO FANDOM BACK IN THE DAY. (what was it, 2011? i was still mostly on livejournal back then I think). I shipped Arthur/Eames so hard, omg. Okay okay, so between the two options, i think our guardian boys would fuse better with inception.
Now from what I remember, there were a few key roles to make a good team for this heist:
Extractor
Forger
Architect
Pointman
Chemist
Chemist is obviously Lin Jing. Zhao Yunlan would be the extractor (i mean, he’s pretty charming in the show and can/has wriggled himself out of tight spots through some fast-talking like dom cobb does in the movie). And tho Da Qing is arguably zyl’s best friend, he cannot be pointman. his memory sucks. and also he’s a cat. cat’s aren’t well known for their wrangling skills, and pointmen are basically in charge of wrangling the team. Like, they have to coordinate all these people and do all this research for the given job. I actually think Asshole Cop Dad (i know his name but he’s an asshole so i refuse to say it) would be best for the role of pointman, which absolutely kills me in an un-fun way. Shen Wei would be the architect bc, idk, he’s a smart guy. I think he’d be able to pick up the skills needed for an architect. The forger i think would be Zhu Hong, maybe?? idk, i don’t think any of them fit the role of forger very well.
So that’s who would be who if we were to go strictly based on personality and skill set for each role. BUT, since I was an avid Arthur/Eames shipper, i want to replay that in this AU. Which means, obviously, Shen Wei is the pointman and Zhao Yunlan is the forger. (tbh i do kind of think they both could use their skills for the assigned roles here too).
Shen Wei has been working as Asshole Cop Dad’s pointman for some contrived reason (idk, it probably has something to do with ye zun) and Asshole Cop Dad is plagued by the shade of his dead wife (bc hey that’s how it happened in Inception and Asshole Cop Dad already has a dead wife so why not?). Both of them are working on the right side of the law here; Asshole Cop Dad should probably retire bc he’s not exactly mentally stable enough to keep his job as an extractor.
There’s some convoluted plot stuff that happens so that they need to recruit a team to do the impossible job of inception. Asshole Cop Dad didn’t want to do this job at all but their superiors don’t buy it when he tells them this is an impossible thing to do. Zyl gets recruited as a forger (he’s been working on the wrong side of the law ever since he defected from the military who was using this awesome dream tech to do some shady shit; he figured if he was gonna do shady shit with dream tech he might as well be honest about it and not dress it up as some patriotic bullshit. besides, it’s mostly scamming rich businessmen anyway and who cares about those guys, right??).
Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan met when they were in the military together as participants of this very new research program that eventually came up with the refined PASIV device we have today. They haven’t seen or spoken to each other since zyl defected but they’ve kept tabs on one another (for purely business reasons!! it’s only natural to keep an eye on the guy who’s the top dog in their respective jobs!! yep, that’s why. no other reason for obsessively, sneakily tracking one another). Shen Wei is the best pointman on either side of the law, just as Zhao Yunlan is the best forger in the business. Zyl is the only one who thinks inception can be done. When his father presents the case, his kneejerk reaction is a resounding NOPE, bc like hell does he want to work with his father. But then his father drops Shen Wei’s name (bc he’s a manipulative asshole), and says something along the lines of yeah, i knew you couldn’t do something like this; it’s a difficult task, ofc you’d run away from it with your tail between your legs.
And that’s how zyl and shen wei end up on the same team. Asshole Cop Dad immediately regrets bringing his son into this bc now he has to watch him shameless flirt and tease his pointman. And he has to endure watching his unflappable pointman get all blushy and flustered.
blah blah blah plot stuff happens blah emotions about dead wife/mom get shared in the dreamscape blah blah there’s father-son stuff that’s not a reconciliation but an acknowledgement of their fucked up relationship blah blah blah the job gets done blah blah everyone takes their pay and leaves
zyl convinces shen wei to join him, and together they build their own team (our full guardian team ofc) and go around using the PASIV for good instead of evil. Then they get married and live happily ever after but not in the dreamscape bc obviously that just lead to terrible things, AND WE’RE GONNA HAVE A HAPPY ENDING DAMN IT BC THEY DESERVE IT.

a lin ran feature :’) i respect hes self-aware about his need to be more than cute to succeed. lin ran has always given me a vibe that hes very serious and tough on himself. he looks soft but has high demands and seems very determined to get what he wants.
im not worried about li hao bc hes surrounded by a bunch of kids who can teach him how to dance LOL not just lin ran but like jin fan and tianci too
what is this pole and could they not move it LOL
Tumblr media
lol so jin fan and tianci did a flippy trick and we just gonna pretend like it didnt happen lol okay
ugh so jin fan kinda got to do more dancing than other stages but i was still hoping itd be more!!! but man lin ran is really killing with his stage presence here
leave it to ycw to speak loudly and vocally about his friends being injured so people recognize their suffering
LOL lin ran’s sassy “im not stupid!!” but yea the third stage was really rough for him, so im glad he was able to recover
LOL lin ran again casually threatening the production team to be like “please edit this stage well” “please don’t cut our segment short” LOL
lol yea im not surprised at this point that li hao won even tho it shouldve been lin ran. youku is def making these rankings up. lol gjm did you even look at lin ran’s facial expressions???? lol making up excuses for youku wat
lin mo praising lin ran and giving him encouragement like a true bro bc he knows how hard lin ran worked for this stage. i wonder if he designed the stage rigging
AY I RESPECT OSCAR. hes a good kid and someone whos willing to speak his mind to address problems, thats awesome. they need someone to do that. he’s direct with the problems but also directly follows by complimenting them and saying how great they could be if they pulled through LOL hes still a kid so hes trying not to offend them but i respect his courage, warmth and dependability.
LOL XUE EN DESTROYED FRANKLIN HAHAHAHAHAHHA and he goes all cutesy after like he has no idea the power he holds LOL but im glad they showed some footage of xue en also teaching the other kids dance. cto skills whooo
ycw still bringing up shiwei? hes either very caught up in his feelings still (which is probably not a good thing at this point) or hes just a really dedicated friend... or youku is just purposefully using shiwei’s elimination for dramatic effect.
im surprised they didnt highlight cxh more bc youku seems to like him, and conversely they gave xzx a ton of time for his stage and let xzx win.
XUE EN IS SO HANDSOME
okay i just needed to get that out of my system
but also im kinda glad syh is in this group bc hes the only one who i will not laugh at when singing this song. ycw and oscar talking about drinks and whiskey??? yall are babies?? also this song does NOT match this dance well at all. i see why they didnt like it when they previewed it LOL also i see now why i saw an edit on twitter of this dance over “retreat” from qcyn bc that song actually FIT the tie pulling move.. versus this im just like ??? seems so out of place??
also their voices all sound weird :\ maybe its just too high of a register for ycw and cxh? or maybe theyre just not very good at singing....? lol
giving xue en the only multi colored tie? THEY KNEW.
im just happy that the party group was able to make their stage so well that other kids were regretting not choosing them bc ycw was really struggling to get people to join him...
LOL CSP BEING SILLY TO ZHAN YU THIS IS THE FRIENDSHIP I NEED
LOL XZX AND LIN MO are adorable together
im glad that they spent time to say zhaohao has improved, i feel like hes gotten zero recognition so far. i feel like ycw winning is the only win i am willing to believe so far. (couldve been xue en too tho)
A FEATURE ON XIKAN’S FRIENDSHIP WITH LUO ZHENG omggggggggggggggg luo zheng the sweetest ge, leaving all the good things for xikan whatt ugh but luo zheng is like literally going actor route so sad that he still wants to be on stage but has no opportunities. im grateful theyre still so close that xikan starts crying just thinking about him
xikan being involved in the stage design and costuming and all makes me think of lin ran but also makes me think of cai xukun. cxk always gets so involved in every little detail to seek perfection
interesting that they focused it all on zry and lxk........ but at least highlighted xikan’s fun side
lol they purposefully cut in fan yu screaming zry’s name and ycw yelling cyc....
but also tbh xikan’s voice was not very strong during his high note and i know hes giving 110% into his dancing so im guessing he doesnt have much air left at that point but i was kinda disappointed it couldve been better. BUT he still did a good job. i thought the part where they ripped off his jacket couldve been more impactful? but it felt like it was just randomly in the middle of the rap break and he doesnt sing again until much later so it was like why did you change clothes there?
tbh this song isnt that exciting? so im surprised that they wanted it that badly?
i saw spoilers that fan yu was gonna be there and its adorable and i love their friendship but lol zuo ye being like i shouldve asked all my gege’s to come.... lol aka they know its kinda unfair for fan yu to be winning votes for zry
im grateful all the trainees are supportive of xikan and they purposefully showed a bunch of popular kids cheering for xikan
gosh that injury on his nose, you know hes put too much energy and is too invested into his dance part when he rips his own face like that :\
i saw spoilers that renyu would win and someone did the math that it makes zero sense for their group’s score to be that low, but i didnt expect their score to be THAT low.... goodness wtf thats definitely rigged, i see why people were mad.
renyu winning is either entirely rigged bc youku wants him to debut or people are really just voting for him bc fan yu was there and that’s not fair either. i love renyu (and his friendship with fan yu) but there’s no way renyu actually won that many votes on a stage where he didnt really show his vocals that much and he messed up his dancing and he was surrounded by kids who danced much better and wouldve made him look not great. this makes zero sense. and the fact that ycw is the only winner that made sense is probably bc youku was like well we cant make it too obvious that its all a joke. but really, its all a joke.
yes i love that renyu worked hard and stayed up all night but can we talk about how xikan does that for every stage? and renyu’s just now started to do so. renyu just came into this competition less prepared, so his improvement is easier to see.
i still think if youku wants to debut renyu, theyll kick out lin ran from top 7, but can we talk about how lin ran put in all the effort to design and perfect his stage? how he teaches others to dance and pushes his group mates to shine as a leader and how he has truly one of the most memorable and formidable stage presences on this whole show? people say the debuting group will need renyu’s voice but how can you really say that renyu fits and is prepared and deserves to debut more than lin ran?
renyu is adorable and talented but let’s be real, as a vocalist, hes not like you zhangjing, hes not like zhao lei, hes not like zhao pinlin, hes not proven that he really fits to be a main vocal in a boy band. youku cannot force us into believing that he can fit that role without any evidence to prove his worth. its like theyre trying to jam someone into that role and its like renyu’s their closest bet, but even tho he still doesnt quite fit, theyre just gonna shove him in anyway. this is what happens when you only give attention to people who are dancers and dont give actual attention to people who are actually boy band main vocal material.... /COUGH ZHAN YU or even cui shaopeng??
how can you possibly believe that renyu got 173 but their average was 134? none of xikan’s groups numbers make sense:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
how did shengen suddenly drop so much? youku has been touting him this whole time into the top 10. shouldnt more of xikan’s fans voted for xuyu? bc he literally begged during the last elim for xuyu to make it this far. xuyu wasnt even dead last in the elim ranking but here he gets last place by like 15 votes??? when everyone else’s vote difference is like half of that at max?
you expect me to believe lin ran only got 127 after he literally descended from the ceiling as an angel? that doesnt attract attention? how are both zuo ye and hu wenxuan so low? wenxuan was literally center and had bright pink hair, and in a song style that suited him, you cant tell me he didnt shine on this stage. xikan tied with xzx???? beneath a kou cong and su xunlun tie??? no way
theres one week left and youku’s getting desperate to make it look like whatever they’re going to make happen will be a natural result, that this competition is up in the air and no one is safe, but it just seems very questionable to me.
sooo does this mean there arent gonna be elims before the finals or what, we just dont see them announce who gets to perform? im assuming not all 32 kids will take part? and theres not gonna be a mentor collab stage? it wouldve been cool to see han yu and cheng xiao with the kids. there were 3 stages between the first and second elimination but no third elim and no mentor stage? its a mad rush to the end, honestly.
oh well, we still love these CHILDREN
Tumblr media
ps: if youve been following my rants, i honestly feel like i have had a really positive impression of zheng renyu from the start and i really do like him. he makes really good songs and his voice is very nice and his friendships are pure and his attitude is commendable. 凄美地 and 當帷幕落下 and 後來的我們 are some of my favorite favorite songs to listen to from this entire show, like probably 3 of my top 5, and a good deal of that is because of renyu and his voice. but im just trying to be realistic and renyu is not in my ideal debuting boy band.

what are some BLs you recommend?
Omg I’m so sorry for taking so long responding! I’ve been so busy and was not ignoring you i swear! Btw I’m not listing these in any order other than how they come to me. Anyway I hope you like at least one thing I recommend ^^
1. History 2 Crossing the Line: it’s on youtube subbed. It’s a high school love story, which I admit I am a sucker for those. Ngl I am the type that falls for the secondary couple lol but I was totally invested in the main couple! The History series is also an anthology series so you don’t have to watch in order at all.
2. Ossan’s Love: I watched on dramavery but I think it’s on fb too? I don’t use it anymore so idk really ^^’’ A real estate worker in his 30′s is courted by his older boss and new younger worker. This definitely leans more towards comedy but I love comedies because the serious scenes feel more impactful to me. A movie came out this summer but I don’t think it’s subbed yet.
3. History 3 Trapped: On Viki. About a cop who falls for a mob leader. There are definitely not a lot of bl shows in that setting so this was fun! The main couple was amazing but I definitely fell for the secondary here xD zhao zi is just soo lol
4. Theory of love: On youtube: About a film student who has been in love with his best friend for 3 years and his attempts to move on. Really well made, great acting, fun film references, and the secondary couple Killed me lol
5. Together With Me: I watched on dailymotion. 2 best friends realize their feelings for each other after a drunken one night stand. The acting was great, chemistry for days, and fleshed out secondary characters. Tbh did Not like the secondary couple. I was very uncomfortable and skipped a lot...I got the lesson, the handling was actually good, but i guess I couldn’t stomach it. There is a second season but people don’t like it and i haven’t checked it either :/
6. Love by chance: On youtube. A sheltered boy(college student?) meets a soccer player and falls in love with him. There are technically 4 pairings in this series but I really only watched the main aepete and tincan...the other 2 again made me uncomfortable and like TWM. More like it was trying to handle “mature”,”taboo” topics and just couldn’t....A season 2 has been announced with a tincan focus so yay!
7. 2moons2: On youtube. About a college freshmen reunites with his highschool crush. The thing about this show is that there was a 2moons season 1 but ish happened and the old cast was dropped and the show was redone. I watched 2moons and as far as recommending? sure? lol I really only liked the mingkit pairing so yeah lol I personally do prefer 2moons2. The acting does start more stilted because they are beginners but they get better and the cast chemistry is good, pairings are better explored, and a type of cheesy that i am totally here for! A season 3 (technically 2) has been announced ^^
8. Lovesick the series: On youtube... I wouldn’t say this is top on my list but it’s a really well known bl as kind of what started the Bl trend. About high school boys falling in love. For what it is it’s cute and the acting gets better. Also earnpete is the couple that never was that Still haunts me to this day!!! lol
9. Our Skyy: I watched on dailymotion. An anthology about couples from various gmmtv series revolving around their future. Really well made episodes. I watched all of them without watching the shows they were referencing and still liked it so you might too ^^
10. Kiss me Again: On youtube and dailymotion. About 2 college boys who can’t stand each other but fall in love. This show actually has a lot of pairings that have nothing to do with the BL story. The gmmtv youtube has the bl only cut so I would recommend that because i hear the show suckksss lol Personally I prefer the dailymotion bl cut because it keeps a lot of scenes that gmmtv didn’t.
ongoing shows as of (12/2019)
History 3: Make our days count: On Viki and kissasian: A high school love story that is just soo cute!!! bcz of course that’s my thing lol
Until we meet again: On youtube: A couple reincarnated after committing suicide and finding each other again. love the cast chemistry!
Dark Blue Kiss: On youtube. A sequal to kiss me again. More of a bl focus on the kma couple kaopete and the introduction of another couple. I Love this! for the most part people are loving the 2nd couple more (morksun) but i’m still enamored by kaopete ^^’’
Shows I haven’t finished or watched but hear great things
Great Men Academy: Kissasian: About a girl who is transformed into a boy and must find a way to turn back. I started it but haven’t had time to finish. But it’s really really good! I think this could have been handled very badly but it was done so well, the acting is great, and the world building makes sense.
He’s coming to Me: chingming subs on twitter. About a ghost trying to find out who killed him and meeting the one person who can see him. I’ve heard only great things about this show. It’s definitely on my to watch!!
Sotus: Youtube and now netflix Ok so i half watched this? i personally didn’t really feel chemistry with the couple and the story kinda felt like it was missing something. but at the time it was one of the only bls I knew about it so I kept with it but at this point i remember almost nothing!!! lol i know it’s about an upperclassman hazer who is courted by a freshman. So even though it did not strike a chord with me, it is a very very much loved show so you might love it too ^^
Diary of Tootsies: Youtube. About friends trying to find love. I’ve heard great stuff about this show. Apparently there’s good comedy and well handled issues which i love so i really need to watch!!
The Untamed: Netflix. A show based on a bl but bcz it was made in china it is very censored. It’s about cultivators, kinda like magical warriors, who try to bring stability to the world...i think lol....now i’m not the biggest fan of “implied” relationships, so i haven’t watched this and might not, but people Love this show!! I also don’t like overly magic stuff GMA i think had a level that i’m cool with but this might be too much. It is on netflix tho soo the convenience factor might bring me to watch it.
Love is more than a word: Youtube. Another china bl that is obviously more censored...buttt i think done soo well. I haven’t finished this but I love what I’ve watched. The love just feels more explicit..and i think maybe bcz the acting may be better? (For me!) (I’ve seen gifs of Lan Wang ji and the ‘looks’ he gives We Wu Xian and I just Really don’t see it. like at. all.) (of course that could just be because i haven’t watched it, but i saw gifs of this show before watching it and i saw “it” lol) The Untamed is better made, beautiful visuals, but i just feel like this show draws me in more...but maybe it’s the magic thing too???
I know this is long but I feel really bad for taking forever so i hope this helps ^^

Zukaang soulmates part 6
@mypureessence
@chaoticidiott
With the fact that Zhao attempted to have him killed and that he's now closing in on the north pole, aka Aang, aka the avatar, AKA his soulmate. Zuko was panicked. But he was ready. So ready I fact that he dove into tunnel of water just because otterseals were diving in it and he though, ah yes, they must be breathing somewhere. He was right of course. But then he dove further and came to a thick sheet of ice, nearly drowned, melted the ice and came up gasping for air in one of the icy tunnels. How he survived to this point in life is sheer luck.
But now he had another thing he had to do. Dry off and search for the avatar. Which wasn't that hard given how his mark stung more the closer he got.
He found them pretty fast and after being defeated with the moon overhead Zuko made a surprise attack once the sun came out, taking Aang with him and running off while Katara was out.
After nearly falling into a snowy pit he managed to get himself and his soulmate to a cave setting him upright and sitting across from him. Looking the boy up and down he found himself wondering what he was even doing, why was he still doing this to himself. Chasing and attacking his soulmate for what? The love of the father who burnt half his face off. He let out a long sigh and reached forward taking hold of the boys hands and turning them over, spotting the mark he was looking for.
A small flame turned golden. He looked at the mark with sad eyes, the cool blue glow of the airbenders tattoos bouncing off of the warm gold and creating a rather beautiful image. "What I wouldnt give to do just one right thing in my life" shut his eyes for a moment and then opened them to find the glow was gone and the airbender was staring at him
"What are you doing?"
"Uh... goodmorning?" He was immediately blown across the cave and Aang shot himself out of the cave. Zuko found himself chasing after him not to take him back but to untie him "wait, you'll need the ropes off to get anywhere!"
"What!?" Zuko managed to catch up to him and cut the ropes as the bison landed
"Just.. go" he said defeated and turnes to head back to the cave "Im... sorry"
"Wait!" He heard Aang shout
He only managed to turn a but before he was being dragged up onto the bison and tied up "woah, what the hell are you doing?" He asked panicked but didn't struggle
"Youll die out here, but I mean, youre not fighting it so..." Sokka stated matter of factly and Zuko just hung bis head in defeat
"Whatever" he then turned to look at Aang with a worried expression before looking back at his feet
They made it back to the Oasis just in time to almost stop Zhao. When Zuko saw the flames hit the fish he struggled against his binds and got out with Sokka's help. "Thank you" he whispered "I'll be back, I promise, just, dont leave without me" and with the confused nod from Sokka he took off after Zhao.
Firing a blast at the man who tried to have you killed is, to say the least, exhilarating. Watching his expression turn to shock is even better though. They fought on equal ground until the bridge where Zuko got the upperhand, that is before the ocean spirit decided to grab Zhao. Extending his heand he shouted "take my hand!" He was honorable, its true, to a fault. But Zhao found it better to die than take the hand of the banished prince. Watching him fall he took a moment to recollect himself before darting back towards the oasis, once their he stopped to catch his breath
"Is-" he looked up to see Sokka, Katara, and his Uncle in mourning, but no Yue. He didnt need to know everything to figure out what happened. So he just made his way there and sat next to Sokka "Im so-!" Sokka immediately wrapped his arms around Zuko and just stayed there and he had no idea what to do with this situation. He looked at his uncle and to Katara for advice and Katara motioned for him to hug back. And so he did, awkwardly patting his back.
"Youre terrible at this"
"Im not used to this, and I dont do well with physical contact or comforting people. I'm making an attempt if that counts for anything"
"It does, thanks, and sorry, and also..." Sokka backed up and punched his arm "fuck you for chasing us for so long and what made you suddenly stop?"
"Its... a long story, and not one I'm all too comfortable talking about... but I came to the realization of multiple things while sitting in that cave. And I decided I couldn't keep chasing a kid my age just to attempt to get the love of a dad who doesn't want me" he let out a breath
"Welp... there is sure alot to unpack there. And we don't have the time to unpack it all right now, but uh, welcome to the... gaang?"
By the end of the day Zuko and Iroh were sitting on the back of the flying bison apparently named Appa. Leaning as far away from the group as he could, mainly trying not to be a nuisance, he held his knees to his chest and watched the back of Aang like a lost puppy. Iroh however was sitting relatively close to Sokka and Katara, sharing stories about pai sho, tea, and of course a few childhood stories about Zuko. The watertribe siblings seemed a bit too trusting, it was probably the presence of Iroh tho, he had away with people that Zuko could never master.
Zuko closed his eyes and let himself drift to sleep, tipping over and laying in the fetal position he was out like a light, feeling a blanket cover him he didnt move but fell onto a deeper sleep. Today was the start of a completely different journey than he ever imagined he'd take.
