I haven't seen anyone else talk about this yet so I'm going to assume no one has (and if this is the millionth post about this I am so sorry), but apparently there was a leak at Viacom last month, and one of the things that got leaked was the original Danny Phantom pitch bible, and let me tell y'all, there is some interesting lore to be had. I've taken the liberty of summing up a few notable points, but feel free to read for yourself - it's pretty short.
Jack was originally written as an ex-spy, test pilot... basically if it was a daring job, he probably had it. His IQ was supposedly only one point off from Maddie's, and his bumbling was more of a result of him being more "brave than smart."
Maddie was originally written as "one of the world's most respected theoretical physicists" and the brains between her and Jack. Get this: her full name was supposed to be Madison!
Sam and Danny's psychic connection was actually a result of the accident. When he was in the hospital and still very much saturated with ectoplasm, she gave him a "get better" kiss on the forehead, which sparked the connection. The connection would've manifested in a number of ways, including a perpetual ability to "sense" the other, see visions, and hear each other's thoughts, though it was supposed to be somewhat unpredictable.
Jazz hid her brains from her cheerleader friends because she wanted to fit in with them.
Danny was supposed to be the only person able to see, hear, and interact with ghosts.
On the subject of Danny, his reputation for being a scaredy-cat was much more well-known, even to the point where Sam and Tucker gave him the nickname Danny Phantom before he even had his accident. This kid was scared of his own shadow, frogs, you name it.
Overshadowing was originally called "ghosting," and the more intelligent a person, the more difficult it would be to control them.
Jack and Maddie were hoping to break the barrier between the "Real World" (our world) and the "Unreal World" (the ghost world). They wanted to get through to the spirit realm to be able to communicate with the dead in order to help make the world a better place (think picking Einstein's brain a little more, seeing what other music Mozart has cooking, etc.). That dimensional barrier was damaged when they first tried out their experiment, and Danny - who was hiding out from Dash in the lab - would be caught in the middle.
Much like how fans have interpreted things and how the show tried to imply, Danny felt responsible for unleashing the ghosts into our world and decided to adopt the name Sam and Tucker had teased him with to help put a stop to their reign of terror.
Seriously, y'all should read this. There's a lot of interesting info in here, and really it sounds like such a cool concept?? Like I'll probably add my personal thoughts in a reblog, but there's a lot of potential for untapped creativity from the phandom here. Plus it's always nice to see what's technically official content almost 20 years after the show's premiere.

I NEED people to know about the Danny Phantom Pitch Bible, which is a collection of ideas that were originally thought of when DP was being pitched to Nickelodeon. Here are some ideas from that:
Jack was a military test pilot who strapped himself to rockets and shot himself across time and space, mainly because he could.
Maddie was a multi Nobel prize winner for her work in metaphysics (so many prizes you could make a wind chime apparently).
Jazz simply wants friends and to fit in, as while she is intelligent, she is rather lonely and doesn’t have friends.
The name “Danny Phantom” was a nickname given to Danny by his best friends, because he was skittish and scared of his own shadow.
The Ghost Zone, or The Unreal, as it was originally called, housed more than just ghosts. It had demons, and other supernatural and mythological creatures!
I need art of these concepts! Please!!!
Here’s the link to the pitch bible!

Danny’s parents want to kill him and he’s like “f in the chat y’all dinner boutta be so awkward tonight smh”
Ok so I know everyone loves the angsty headcannons where Danny is terrified of his parents cuz they wanna kill him but we’ve had that hot take since 2005 I’m here for a source material revival, the much more entertaining “Danny’s parents want to kill him and he actively doesn’t give a fuck”
CUZ UH, IM REWATCHING THE FIRST SEASON AND I FORGOT HOW GENUINELY BLASÉ HE IS ABOUT MADDIE AND JACK TRYING TO GET HIS ASS ITS SO FUNNY.
Like mom holding a literal ghost gun to his head: eh kinda unphased he even has time to quip, his parents say they wanna tear em to pieces: meh see u guys at dinner, LIKE OUR GUY IS SO UNPHASED HE THINKS THIS SHIT IS FUNNY! (s1 ep. 14 public enemy)
And he’s unphased despite knowing his parents tech works and knowing that his mother is actually a good shot. So like I love angst Danny and y’all should keep up the good work but where is my s1 Danny ‘COULDN’T give less of a fuck about his parents’ Fenton representation?
Cuz think of this, for your DPXDC AU consideration, Danny would fit in so well with the bat gang if only because they could try to stab, shoot, capture, brainwash, and stalk him and he’d be like “oh cool villain of the week shit? Nice, what’re we having for lunch.” He. Wouldn’t. Flinch.

There's something about the change from Danny and Sam being psychically linked bc of the accident to them being symbolically linked bc of the accident. Going from Sam kissing Danny's forehead (that's still contaminated with ectoplasm) and that creating a shared-psychic bond between them, to her encouraging him to enter the portal which leads to the accident is so fascinating. The shift in agency is huge. Danny is the one who went into the portal, but Sam is the reason he did it. Whereas the psychic-link would have just happened to them passively, in the show it is their shared action that bonds them forever. Their bond is fundamentally built upon action, showing up for each other, being there day-in and day-out.

There’s so much lore in the leak of the DP Pitch Bible thing and yet the most shocking thing to me is that Jazz’s name is spelt Jazmine not Jasmine.
Heck it even makes more sense her name being spelt like that.

Danny Phantom's Series Bible
So I was recently reading Danny Phantom's Series Bible via ForeverPhantom's reblog (thank you, hannahmanderr, for originally posting it) and there's some really interesting facts and tidbits I came across. As is said b4, Danny was conceived of as having been called Phantom long before The Accident™, it was a nickname given to him by Sam and Tucker, a dig(?) on how his' being shy, timid saw him become, for lack of a better word, socially undetectable, invisible.
But only a few people know that Danny Phantom is actually Danny Fenton, the shy, average, quiet kid that sat in the back and tried to stay out of trouble. Because of his skittishness and shyness, his friends Tucker and Samantha started calling him “Danny Phantom”. They didn’t mean it to be hurtful… it was all in good fun. And after the accident, it didn’t bother him anymore. Because it ended up being more accurate than even they could have believed.
It also makes it seem that as a human/ghost hybrid Danny (in addition to all of the standard array of abilities specters have, to fly, to shed their solid forms and become intangible, etc) is indeed possessed of the ability to straight up, like, make portals/teleport(?), a la how Vlad in-canon can apparently do, and so cross in-between the realms at will. To be fair, that could just be a case of me reading too much into it, but the exact wording is as follows, that,
Danny received his powers through a scientific experiment gone awry... the dimensional barrier was damaged and Danny - who wasn’t even supposed to be in the lab at the time - was caught in the middle, and essentially trapped between the two worlds. The lab and the experiment were both badly damaged in the process… but Danny wasn’t. He was left with the amazing powers, and the ability to “crossover” from one world to the next at will.
What Do the Fentons Do? What Are Their A c t u a l J o b s?
The Bible works also to answer the question that's been nagging the Phandon for years, i.e., Exactly WTF are the Fentons' occupation? It states that Maddie operates as a theoretical physicist (her real name being Madison and not Madeline, apparently), with Jack in comparison being something of an adrenaline junkie and so working as a military test-pilot, his suit indeed being that of a test pilot, a crash dummy, I.e., his work uniform. Hell, it seems Jack being a test-pilot made it into the series canon, if the Danny Phantom Style Guide is anything to go by. It defines the family company specifically, FentonWorks, as a think-tank/research type company that consults when people are having problems with the paranormal.

Valerie Gray from Danny Phantom! From a practice reboot pitch bible I’m doing with a friend.
I wanted an arc about someone already strong growing open and vulnerable. Hopefully that comes across!

Yoooooooo.
I’ve been bitten by the bug, and ye olde nostalgia got me thinking about Danny Phantom again, so I decided to play into that. I recently found the Show’s Pitch Bible, and it got me thinking about how I’d handle the reboot. On top of tweaking Jack and Maddie to make them less bumbling morons and more eccentric geniuses, I’d be aging up the crew, and settling Amity Park in Arkham County up New England way.
Danny, as you can probably tell from his human design, would be somewhat milquetoast, with grungy alternative leanings. Good at science, bad at math. Danny is, at his core, a good kid who loves his family. But he is still a kid.
I’ll probably go into them more as I work on the other characters, but I want to give Tucker, Sam, Jazz, and the Fenton parents more to do, even if it is just in the background. But for now, the Fenton parents definitely have only recently started Fenton Works. It’s been a lifelong dream, and between the two of them they’ve reached a point with their savings that it’s now a possibility. Maddie is a respected physicist, and Jack is… a bit of everything really. Test pilot, super spy, but mostly he’s an engineer. Maddie figures out how a thing works, and Jack can build it. The world of academia was… shocked when the most prominent scientific super couple announced they would be devoting the rest of their lives to pursuing superstitious pseudoscience, and this announcement has called their previous credibility into question, but no one can deny that Dr and Mister Fenton get results, if anyone can prove the existence of the supernatural, it’s the Fentons. Both are haunted by a supernatural experience from their youth.
Tucker Foley would probably have escaped the nerd label by his sheer programming and tech repair skills alone, if it wasn’t for the fact that he’s also a total anime geek, and a self proclaimed furry. Tucker is an unabashed nerd, and not the suave tv friendly type. Cosplays, ttrpg, mmos, comic and action figure collecting, you name it, he does it. Proudly. And he’s been Danny’s best friend since they were in diapers. Inevitably some of that has rubbed off on Danny.
Sam Manson is relatively new in town. She moved in with her grandmother midway through freshman year after things finally came to a head with her super conservative parents. Falling somewhere between socialist and anarchist, classic goth and punk, Sam is a rebel, an activist, and everything your parents warned you about. She’s also the coolest person Danny and Tucker know. Sam has a borderline obsession with the occult, ghosts, demons, witches, you name it, she can’t get enough of it. Which may or may not have something to do with a family secret relating to why certain members of the Manson family have purple eyes?
Jazmine Fenton is Danny’s smarter, prettier older sister. Fascinated by psychology, and obsessed with figuring out the inner workings of the mind. In high school she was a geek. In college she is thriving. Fortunately, Fenton Works is close to the university she’s attending, and that means she’s never far from home, and more importantly never far from her family. Though her relationship with her parents is rocky, she’s been trying to mend fences after getting some perspective on the world. She and Danny were close growing up, and shared everything, so his recent trend of playing everything close to his chest is unnerving for her. She doesn’t understand when she stopped be Danny’s best friend.
That’s alls I gots for now. Maybe I’ll play around with writing a fic, or maybe a comic or something. We’ll see how this all develops.

Younger Siblings Tournament Bracket Reveal
A few things I want to mention before I reveal the bracket (and make the post really long because all the matchups will be listed in text):
Seeding of fictional characters in tumblr polls is inherently subjective. I did try to make it so that more popular characters/media would (most likely) face off against each other in later rounds, but I may be overestimating or underestimating the popularity of some characters/media, especially ones I'm not familiar with. There are some round 1 matchups that are probably a closer match but none of them are between the strongest candidates... I think.
The more niche characters will probably get obliterated in the first round as per Squimbus' Law. This is a tumblr poll and I do fully expect more popular characters to sweep, but that doesn't mean you can't encourage your friends to give your niche faves a fighting chance.
Also there are some matchups I literally just thought would be funny. Please don't take this too seriously.
I'm sorry BNHA fans.
(Preliminary Patch Notes 3/14: Swapped brackets 2 and 3, and brackets 19 and 21.)

watching Saberspark's video about Butch Hartman and i realized...
Butch Hartman is essentially the Donald Trump of animation.
think about it:
-was more of a businessman than an actual creator.
-was once a media darling, but then became a conservative talking head who's hated by everyone except conservative "Christian" nationalists.
-has a massive ego and blames others for his own failings while talking up his "successes."
-rips off and profits off of the labor of others who he inevitably screws over.
-sold his own "Bible" (look up Butch Hartman's Children's Bible based on his "The Garden" series.)
it sucks because i loved the original seasons of Fairly Oddparents as a kid and a lot of people really enjoyed Danny Phantom.

list of submitted queer characters in homophobic media that were so incredibly badly written that they're automatically in the bracket
Castiel (this one's self explanatory. goes to superhell because he confessed to dean, is resurrected by the time of the series finale but doesn't appear onscreen or resolve the confession)
Chihiro Fujisaki (literally murdered because she came out as trans, handling of her case is so bad she is misgendered constantly during the trial and the fandom still argues on her pronouns)
Will Byers (canonically in love with his best friend, who is in a committed relationship with another main character)
Shiro from Voltron (his relationship with Adam was teased at constantly in promos and Adam was revealed to have died in a flashback)
Remus Lupin (werewolves are stated by jkr to be a metaphor for AIDS)
Tallstar (after they part ways Tallstar never takes a mate because 'his heart belongs to Jake')
Dean Winchester (homophobic writers accidentally making the most bisexual man to ever exist by making his arc revolve around dealing with his toxic masculinity + constant jokes over multiple seasons about Dean being attracted to guys)
Judas from da Bible (i just thought this one was funny)
Magne (from BNHA, her reason for joining the league of villains is because she feels marginalized as a trans woman. she gets brutally murdered in the show)
Danny Phantom (we've all seen the tumblr posts i think)
Oswald Cobblepot (specifically from Gotham, is in love with his best friend and tries to kill his girlfriend because of it. changes made on-set by producers to make his relationship with Ed less queer)
Irene Adler (stated to be a lesbian but falls in love with Sherlock anyway as a major plot point)

I was just watching the Ember McClain character spotlight for Nickelodeon All Star Brawl 2, and I came to a bit of a realization. Danny Phantom and Hazbin Hotel are basically following a similar pattern for me.
Both won me over immediately with their art style and afterlife concepts. Both had potential that was hinted at early on, that I would have loved to see explored, that were squandered later (Danny Phantom going from "ghosts are spirits of the dead" in Season 1 to "ghosts are just monsters" in Season 3, Hazbin seeming more episodic and "wacky hijinks" than the serialized character study the pilot implied).
Both had their pitch bibles revealed later that seemed like exactly the kind of thing that I would have loved to pieces (DP having te original plan of Danny's parents being interested in ghosts to learn from the dead, Hazbin having character growth with an early Extermination as a looming threat), but the full show steered away from utilizing those concepts (yes Hazbin isn't out yet, but the confirmed episode titles we know are completely different from the ones in the pitch bible so we can assume those were all scrapped, and Helluva's writing with Adam being involved worries me for Hazbin since Adam wrote for that too). Both shows are created by people who did some shady things, look down on others who aren't at their level, and can't take criticism.
And that really, really hurts.
I will give Butch Hartman this though— at the very least, his character designs didn't all blend in with the background. True, a lot of ghost battles in the show took place on Earth, but a fair few took place in the Ghost Zone, which is entirely green with a bit of purple here and there. And while quite a few of those Purgatory-bound ghosts have green on them, the only characters that are nearly entirely green are the Ectopuses, who are background threats.
In the main ghosts we see, there's tons of variety. Technus has green skin but his white hair and gray coat balance it out. Lunch Lady and Desiree are similar. Skulker has has green hair but his skin and armor are blue (his tiny blob form is green but that's only seen in his first appearance). Heck, a good number of ghosts (Ember, Sydney, Ghostwriter, Walker, Spectra) don't have any green on them at all except for their eyes (which reminds me of a previous anon saying the "different colors = different rings" would work better in Helluva if eye color alone was an indicator of which ring they were from). The Box Ghost doesn't even have a speck of green on him anywhere.
Whereas with Hazbin, every single main character has red prominently in their design.
At this point when it comes to animated shows involving the afterlife, I'm taking a "fine, I'll do it myself" approach and pitching my own work, because every afterlife cartoon I've encountered (can't say afterlife show because The Good Place exists and is great) seems to be disappointing me in the "squandered potential when it comes to the afterlife, exploring morality, and existential themes" department.
I'll admit that half of this is lost on me because I never watched Danny Phantom, but I definitely get what you're saying. It's hard to watch something you loved fly close to the mark, miss, and crash into flames.
It's true. Sometimes you've just got to do it yourself.
