yes. He's the heir to a kingdom that's just as lost and broken as he was. He found his self worth and it brought him back to his family, giving him Noble worth. They will rebuild their family and Kingdom together.
no. He gave up his title because he chose to be with Rapunzel. While he still is in contact with his father, he is not bound to that Kingdom anymore, and thus, Not Prince.
No and Yes. Edmund's child died and he decided to adopt the kid who kinned Flynn Rider so hard that he became him. No one else ever mentions Edmund having a child, so no one calls him out on it.
Yes and No. Eugene is a random orphan, but Lance helped him scam their way into both of them being Princes. Eugene doesn't feel too bad; he got to save Edmund from a life of isolation and Edmund gets two sons, an amazing daughter in law in Rapunzel and two spunky grandchildren with Catalina and Kiera.
No. The Lost Prince was Cassandra, and Gothel just picked very wrong at the orphanage when looking for a new child servant. It's hard to tell what children are when they're so tiny, and Edmund didn't fully remember what gender his kid was. Just that a kid going around as Flynn Rider? Gotta be his child.
Nah. Brock Thunderstrike is an Excellent Name to give a kid that you'll need to track down in a few decades, don't you think?
Very Much No. Edmund is just a Guardian of the Moonstone - the actual Royals left a while ago with all of the people. Edmund is a King as much as Calliope was the Keeper of the Spire - simply the only one with authority that remained.
What is a Prince without people? Or a Crown? What right does Edmund have to remain King, seeing as their people are gone, their land is still covered in the Rocks, and it will be years before there's any established infrastructure? What gives anyone divine right to rule over others? Is it Justice? Morality? Strength? The drive to care for others? (these are legitimate questions, people)
Eugene is just a silly guy, stop overthinking it (see results)

She's a girl with the best intentions, He's a man of his own invention - Chapter 9-12 Update
Chapter 9: Love - New Dream
Love was never something he thought really existed. Or at least the idealist, unconditional, caring type of true love people liked to talk about.  What movies, books, and such liked to talk about.  It was all made up to make people feel good or whatever. Love always seemed to cost something. Or it carved in and hurt him. But then he found Rapunzel.
Chapter 10: Home - New Dream
For years, home was the tower. It was where she lived with her mother.  It’s where she grew up.  Where she covers every inch of the wall with her painting.  Where she did everything she ever did in her life.  It was the only thing she knew. But it was home.
Chapter 11: Stars - New Dream
“You charted the stars?” A voice suddenly said above her. Rapunzel jumped with a small shout of surprise. Pushing her journal to her chest, both to protect it from sight, and sliding down the sloped roof to the ground stories blow.  Before she turned to look up at the owner of the voice with a slight glare. Her glare fell on a man standing next to her and just leaning slightly over her.
Chapter 12: Flowers - New Dream
Eugene looked up at the painting before him.
Life was what it was called. It was on a relatively large canvas, framed in an elegant wooden frame that looked like it once was painted gold.  In the middle of the painting was a woman in a simple pale purple dress with her arms outstretched and blonde hair spread out like the sun around her head.   A whole array of flowers surrounded her, all in varying levels of detail.  Some seemed like smears of paint that gave the idea of what flower, while others seemed more carefully painted in the foreground.  And the flowers were spilling out onto the frame. Eugene knew it was by Nature Book Girl.
Start this 30 Day Challenge from the beginning here on AO3
Hope you all enjoy.

I swear the shock over finding out that Shinichi Kudo and Kaito Kid are cousins.... I haven't felt this shocked over a family revelation since the Dark Prince Eugene Theory was confirmed on Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure.

Hey there! Just wanted to drop by and gush about how much I adore your tangled fics! I've been a reader for quite a while, and I've noticed a delightful shift in your style and character focus lately—totally loving it!
It's genuinely refreshing to witness writers evolving and trying out new things within the fandom. I'm genuinely thrilled that you're still in the game. Hoping you stick around for the long haul!
On another note, I'd love to know what's cookin' in your creative kitchen. What's on your plate in terms of current works in progress or any future fics you're plotting? I remember you posting about it a while back, but, alas, my search skills failed me.
Major kudos for being such an incredible wordsmith! Can't wait for the next chapter (of literally any of your fics).
Wow! Thank you so much!
I think it has helped working with @tangledbea for Between the Kisses and my writing has slowly begun to improve from reading through her edits of BTK and then incorporating my new knowledge into other stuff I am writing to improve my own writing skills.
I have always enjoyed getting into characters and sometimes I can find it very difficult to get into the heads of certain characters!
I have no intention of leaving this fandom - at least not for a long time! (It will be three years in 2024 since I fell deep into Tangled fandom!)
What's cookin' in my creative kitchen? Oh, I have lots of ideas... First and foremost will be Tangled: Between the Kisses and my solo project of The Lost Prince. I am thoroughly enjoying writing TLP and I have quite a few spin-off fics in the works for that universe! I will be revealing more of those ideas closer to Christmas! I will reveal though that the series itself will be called: The Dark Kingdom Twins!
Myself and @twotangledsisters are working on a ModernAU of Tangled called Our Undying Dream which isn't your usual ModernAU rewrite. It will hopefully be surprising and interesting and it does start in the Tangled film timeframe. We hope to be able to share this fic soon but we want to completely write it first before we publish it. Due to our other projects, we work on it when we can.
My other works is a Team Awesome camping fic where Eugene and Varian are caught by bandits and when the bandits learn who Eugene is... well... he's in trouble and its up to Varian to save him! I hope to post this fic early next year. It should only be three chapters and the first chapter is drafted.
I am also working on two other stories.
The first is titled Uprising where Varian and the villagers of Old Corona rise up against the royal family at the end of season one! There is a twist in this fic which I hope will be surprising. At the moment, I'm not writing it due to other commitments, but it is on my list to write. Once the ModernAU and the Camping fic is done, Uprising will become a fic I will begin to focus on as I am really excited about this idea!
The second fic is one I have an idea for but no progress has been made yet. This is titled The Letter in the Lantern. What if Rapunzel had found the letter addressed to her during the Lantern ceremony? During 'I See The Light' I noticed that the lantern Rapunzel launches back into the air is the one her parents launched from the balcony! We know from the series that Frederic always wrote letters to Rapunzel. What if she found this letter? This fic will roughly be about 10 chapters and is on my list to write!
Thank you so much for the ask!

This a dark kingdom AU I made with my friend!
For those wondering Varian is saying something along the lines of: "Did you know? So many plants grow in Corona, they can be vegetarian!" In Siberian (Translation courtesy of google translate :D)
Basically the AU is that for whatever reason the Dark kingdom didn't fall and is a hidden kingdom no one knows about. The Brotherhoods job is to go out to the rest of the world just to see what's up. Once Fredrick uses it the brotherhoods main job is just to make sure the Moonstone doesn't throw a hissy fit and kill everyone.
Eugene is raised like a prince and Varian as a Brotherhood member. Eugene is very rambunctious and careless. Varian wants to start doing research on the annual "horizon lights" and is sure have something to do with the Sunflower but Edmund keeps refusing.
Then on the winter stolcice celebration Eugene manages to ruin it. In order to teach him some humility Edmund sends him on Varians research quest to Corona. Cue movie events.
All these sketches are pretty old except the rhino one. Clothing was mainly inspired by east Siberian clothing in the last one. The first few I completely forgot the reference o-o,

Disney Parents Backstory Tangled Version!
Tumblr media
So here's what I've come up with for Rapunzel's parents. We know that Arianna used to adventure with Willow and that they competed in the Contest of Crowns, and yet they don't appear to be princesses of one of the Seven Kingdoms. So I had the idea that this is how the Princess and the Pea story goes in the DisneyVerse!
Young Arianna travels through Corona who's once again hosting the contest, and decides to join in as it seems fun and hey, she and Willow are princesses as well!
Prince Frederic's mother is less then enthused at this young nobody claiming to be a princess winning all these events for royalty, as she had decided to use the contest as a way to find a suitable wife for her son. Frederic, however, is head over heels for this beautiful talented adventurer and makes sure to help her win the last-minute "challenge" his mother sets up to test Arianna--the infamous pile of mattresses and the pea underneath.
Meanwhile, with Eugene's Parents I think they'd fit well with the "Man meets Odd Traveling Companions and they help him win a Princess' hand" storyline
Tumblr media
When you've got a place with a name and the vibe of "The Dark Kingdom" well you're just gonna attract wicked sorcerers. Its prime evil tower real estate!
So young Prince Edmund is sent to run him off, and in the process of scoping out the tower he meets the sorcerer's young daughter, a beautiful young maiden named Hortensia.
(I wanted a name to link Eugene's birthname too, and Hortensia works well as a feminine version of Horace xD)
They start talking and meeting secretly, and she helps Edmund avoid her father's raven spies. But she herself is trapped and unable to escape due to her father's power.
Eventually they're discovered, and the sorcerer, mostly to amuse himself, gives Edmund three impossible tasks to fulfill in order to marry Hortensia when Edmund states his feelings towards her.
So Edmund, determined to free her, goes off on his journey to do the tasks and along the way he meets young Quirin, Hector and Adira, helps them with whatever trouble he finds them in and so they form The Brotherhood, and they later use their special skills (and some secret help from Hortensia, through the ravens she's managed to turn to her aide) to fulfill the tasks, and eventually defeat the evil sorcerer once and for all.
The three companions find a new home and family in Edmund's court, Edmund and Hortensia are happily married and she has control of her father's ravens now, which she starts training to listen to Edmund as well, and the little chick seen in her hand in the portrait in the show turns out to be baby Hamuel.

Tangled treating its audience by not leaving them confused or being omitted from anything for the entirety of the movie. We are told and made perfectly aware of each of the character's motives, and the plot twists are more or less foreshadowed.
Right from the very beginning of the movie, we know Gothel is the villain of the story, yet Rapunzel doesn't know that. We see her being manipulated and deceived by Gothel so it's very satisfying to see when Rapunzel finally stood up to her.
Scary-looking ruffians? Actually big softies singing about their dreams five seconds later.
Even when Rapunzel thought Eugene took the crown and left her, they could've excluded Eugene's perspective from us and left us heartbroken as Rapunzel. But they didn't.
Eugene dying was foreshadowed in the very first line of the movie, "This is the story of how I died."
Rapunzel's tear reviving Eugene is a plot twist the audience and the characters didn't know about, unless the audience has known about the original Brothers' Grimm story of Rapunzel healing her prince with her tears.
And if the audience did know about the original story, they'd know Flynn Rider being a thief is a twist, and it's a twist that his real identity is actually Eugene Fitzherbert. Though from observant audiences they can tell Eugene wasn't the rogue thief he's trying to make himself out to be. (And someone's reaction on Youtube immediately knew Flynn Rider wasn't his real name).
Anyway, Tangled is a story that started with the sun and the audience aren't left in the dark.

me and some buddies were rewatching Be Very Afraid and I realized why the cowlick scene never felt wrong to me: Eugene’s fear isn’t the cowlick itself, it’s just intangible and that is the best representation.
eugene's greatest fear is his identity. he doesnt know who he is so he forces himself into one image. It was Flynn Rider, then Rapunzels boyfriend, then prince of the dark kingdom, and later captain. And each time he puts his whole being into that role. He goes all out.
His fear isn’t the cowlick itself. it's the fear of being anything but what he wants people to see.

Out of absolutely nowhere, I suddenly though about a Tangled/Sleeping Beauty AU where Rapunzel and Eugene are betrothed at her birth (and he grew up the prince of the Dark Kingdom) and him making this face upon peering into her crib and seeing her for the first time:

While the show did tend to sideline Eugene in favor of Cass, at the same time, the show does that whether she’s in the episode or not. Like in “Be Very Afraid” where Cass is off in the woods somewhere, and the writers decided the most interesting thing they could do with Eugene in episode about the characters’ biggest fears is to make his fear a freaking COWLICK. Incredible
I was going to make a post about how Eugene deserved better in TTS but I guess I'll just talk about that here.
But ya, it seems that the writers didn't know what to even DO with Eugene so they just use him for comic relief and nothing else. The only thing resembling an arc that Eugene gets is...finding out he's a dark prince? Which, I don't really know how to feel about since while it doesn't technically contradict anything...it also feels like an addition that a fan-fiction would add (which adds to the fan-ficy feel TTS has as a whole).
Plus they barely ever do anything with that concept anyway after it's revealed. With Cassandra the Eugene sidelining is at it's worst since the show constantly pushes Eugene to the side so it can shine it's light on it's new favorite OC. It gets especially bad when the show sidelines Eugene's romance with Raps in favor of focusing on Cass's friendship with her, which, considering that Eugene was a main character in the movie, seeing him constantly get sidelined in favor of the show's new favorite OC gets real annoying real fast.
Again, I like TTS, but man, as a sequel to the movie...while it's far from bad, there are some decisions it made that were...questionable, to say the least.

The Dark Kingdom in TTS was such a throwaway country and it honestly sucks that no one talks about it especially Eugene like at this point I don't care about "well it's good he rejects his destiny / duty of being the Dark Kingdom Prince" it's just... the total lack of interest, you mean to tell me he's not genuinely curious? The Dark Kingdom was a country with history, culture, people, Edmund came from a line of monarchs, Eugene has family upon generations, you mean to tell me a man who thought of himself having no history would not be interested in the one that's been hidden from him?
