Two | Chasing Memories
Tumblr media
CHAPTER Ⅰ ┊CHAPTER Ⅲ
Tumblr media
Summary: After the ball, Satoru can’t stop thinking about you along with a mysterious letter addressed to him. Time for the suitors!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Mr. Burton?” You questioned, uncertainty flickering in your gaze.
Suguru nodded before casting a concerned glance back at you, upon noticing the sudden change in your demeanor. “Is something wrong?”
You emitted a weary sigh, shaking your head gently. “Nothing appears amiss. But I must admit, I harbored hopes for a proposal from someone other than Mr. Burton.”
He raised a quizzical eyebrow, amusement glinting in his eyes. “Does Mr. Burton not meet your expectations?”
You quickly amend, “Ah, no, that's not what I meant. I was simply expecting a different suitor than just Mr. Burton. However, that seems unlikely, considering I've only attended one ball and he merely caught sight of me from a distance after dancing with the prince.”
He nodded understandingly placing his cup of tea upon its saucer. “I understand your perspective. Curiously, Mr. Burton confided in me his worries about competing with the Prince, fearing the Prince may seek your hand.” He added, his tone laced with playful insinuation.
You rebuffed Suguru's teasing. “Please, Suguru, refrain from teasing. It's not amusing.”
He laughed. “I’m merely jesting, dear.”
“Well, I'd best prepare if I want to meet Mr. Burton on time.” You stated, rising from your seat to leave the room. However, you paused, turning your gaze to Suguru. “Will you be joining me?”
He shook his head, “Why would I do that? It's about time you attended your events without me trailing behind.”
You hurriedly took a seat next to him, reaching for his hand with a pleading gaze. “Please, accompany me. It's my first time meeting a suitor, and I'm terribly nervous.”
Suguru emitted a subdued sigh, his caress tender as he gently touched your hand. “Sweetheart, there will come times when I won't be able to accompany you everywhere. Some have already started to assume that I'm merely showcasing you before publicly declaring our relationship.”
You withdrew your hand from his grasp, conceding with a hint of resignation, “I suppose you have a point.”
"But,” You quickly suggested, “can't you perceive it as an opportunity to court as well?” You interjected while meeting Suguru's gaze with a hopeful expression.
“Now what makes you think I’m interested in courting?” He countered, a playful grin dancing on his lips.
“How can you not? Don’t you wish to settle down?”
“Indeed, there may come a time when I'll need to think about settling down and starting a family. However, I'm still young, and I have plenty of time ahead of me, there’s still other matters I must attend to.”
“You mean engaging in casual meetings and the abandonment of illegitimate babies?” You questioned, your tone unimpressed.
“Pray tell,” He paused, intrigued by your words, “where did you acquire such information?”
Leaning in with an air of playful intrigue, you remarked, “Rumors spread like wildfire. I can say, I’m quite impressed to find you're the center of attention, even amidst King Ferdinand’s final ball as a Prince.”
“Oh, you have quite the knack for catching onto gossip, my dear.” He stated with a sly smile, softly pinching one of your cheeks with his hand before letting his hand rest on his lap.
“So, is that yes? Will you accompany me this evening?” You asked enthusiastically hoping you had convinced him.
“No.” He replied flatly, causing you to groan audibly as you trailed behind Suguru after he rose from his seat. “Why must you persist in such contrariness? I can’t do it without you.”
Turning to face you, Suguru placed his hands on your shoulders, holding you in place, halting your words before you could speak further. “Listen.” He began. “I understand the world can be daunting, especially as you're about to embark on a new chapter in your life, it’s normal to be frightened. I only advise you to be yourself, any suitor will be lucky to see you for who you truly are. And if they don’t, well that’s their loss. If anything happens, no matter what it is, you can always rely on me, alright? I will always be here. So do not worry too much about failing without even trying.”
With a resigned nod, you replied. “Alright.” Content with your answer, Suguru released his hold on you.
“Besides.” He interjected, “I wouldn't want to scare off any potential suitors.”
“What suitors? I hardly have one.” You protested.
“Don’t worry darling, they will come around, especially with a Prince in tow.” Suguru couldn't resist teasing you one last time, as he turned to take his leave.
“Stop it! It's no longer amusing!”

Lost in a reverie, his gaze unfocused as he stared into the void oblivious to the summons of his royal advisor. Startled back to the present, he turned his gaze towards the advisor, his expression momentarily distant. “Forgive me.” he uttered, "What were you saying?”
“Your Highness.” The royal advisor addressed Satoru with reverence, “His Majesty has expressed a wish for you to be more engaged today with the potential candidates for your future matrimony. Rather than observing from a distance, he hopes to see you actively participating in the discussions.”
Satoru's laughter rippled through the air, tinged with a hint of mischief, as he reclined in his seat, crossing one leg over the other and folding his arms across his chest. “Ah, indeed, that's the only reason why we are here today,” he says with a wry smile, casting a casual glance around. Turning to his trusted advisor, Ethelred, Satoru's eyes twinkled with camaraderie. “My dear Ethelred.” He continued “I am already acquainted with many of these women. Let's just say I've taken the liberty of getting to know them a bit better beforehand. But that, of course, will remain between us.”
Ethelred cleared his throat, standing with his arms clasped behind his back as he nodded in agreement. “Of course, Your Highness.” He replied dutifully.
Then his eyes drifted across the assembly, his gaze distant yet discerning, as if he were searching for someone amidst the crowd.
Noticing the shift in Satoru's demeanor, his advisor approached, recognizing the unspoken turmoil within his liege. “Your Highness, may I humbly offer my thoughts?”
With a nonchalant nod, Satoru silently signaled his consent for his advisor to speak, though his attention remained upon the crowd.
“I couldn't help but notice, Your Highness, that you appear to be searching for someone specific. Might I inquire as to whom you are searching for? Perhaps I could offer my assistance in locating them.”
Satoru hesitated at first before conceding, “Yes, I am indeed searching for someone, Ethelred. Do you recall the lady I danced with at the previous ball? I find myself wondering if she is in attendance today. However, without sight of Suguru, I cannot be certain. Miss (Y/N).”
“Ah, yes Miss (Y/N).” Ethelred acknowledged. “I apologize, Your Highness, but I have not yet caught a glimpse of Miss (Y/N) among the attendees.”
Satoru sighed softly, disappointment evident in his demeanor as he nodded understandingly. “I'll be back shortly.” He announced, pushing himself up from his seat and striding towards the mansion, leaving the gardens. Amid the gathering, Satoru exchanged brief pleasantries as he made his way toward the restroom. However, his walk was abruptly impeded by a sudden tug at his arm, wrenching from his path and propelling him into the seclusion of a nearby hallway. Before he could protest, his eyes widened in surprise upon seeing the familiar figure in front of him, his breath catching in his throat for a moment as he struggled to process the unexpected encounter.
“Emily!” He exclaimed in astonishment, recognizing one of his ex-lovers. “What are you doing here? Have you lost your mind?”
Emily huffed indignantly, her grip tightened on his clothes as she met his gaze with an unwavering sense of defiance. “Do you think I’ll let you go so easily?” She countered, her tone laced with fierce determination. “You’re not done with me until I say so. Do you understand?”
Satoru forcefully freed himself from her grasp, straightening his attire as he delivered her a stern glare. “How did you even get here?” He demanded. “And where’s your betrothed? Does your father condone your presence here?”
Emily emitted a sardonic laugh, offering her retort. “Do you think I’m stupid? Of course, I came here unnoticed.” She replied. “My father is preoccupied with business affairs, as is my intended, leaving me to venture here alone.”
Satoru sighed heavily, leaning against the wall while running a hand through his hair in irritation. “Listen, whatever semblance of a relationship we once shared is now a thing of the past.” He asserted firmly. “There’s no point in discussing it further. You are betrothed, and I am soon to follow suit. Therefore, I implore you to erase me from your thoughts.” With a determined stride, he made to depart, only to be ensnared once more by Emily’s grasp, compelling him to face her gaze.
“Don’t play dumb.” She challenged him, her eyes burning with fervor as she spoke. “I harbor affection for you, and I know you reciprocate such sentiment. I know what we had was special and I won’t let you go without a fight.” Before Satoru could object, Emily pulled him into a fervent and desperate kiss, her hold tight around his broad shoulders as she clung to him, refusing to let go. It won’t be easy to get rid of someone as persistent as Emily, though, between her affections Satoru found himself mirroring her actions by pulling her close, reciprocating the kiss with the same amount of passion. He finds himself consumed by lust, unable to resist its pull. After all, he has admitted he’s a man weak to the touch of a woman.
Ah, but Satoru was not the sole bearer of misfortune on this fateful day.
As Mr. Burton incessantly drones on about his family history, you can feel yourself drifting into a drowsy state, wishing fervently to be elsewhere, away from the monotonous babbling that seems to go on endlessly. You can only sit upright in your chair, mustering occasional nods in response to Mr. Burton's monologue.
“Ah, pardon me, I guess I went a little overboard in there.” Mr. Burton concedes, reclining in his seat as he takes a sip from his cup of tea. You quirk an eyebrow to yourself, mildly amused by his sudden self-awareness, before offering a polite smile.
“Oh, not at all.” You assure him. “I think it's a very intriguing story.”
“Ah!” he exclaimed, visibly pleased by your response, “I'm delighted you found it intriguing. Perhaps we can pick up where we left off another time.” You offered a tight-lipped smile, silently hoping that such an occasion would never come.
“Enough about me,” Mr. Burton proposed, leaning in with a renewed curiosity. “Tell me about yourself.”
“Well.” You began, your voice carrying a hint of warmth. “There isn't much to tell about my past, as I've mentioned before. My memories are rather faint since I was taken in by the Geto family. However, I can certainly share some of my passions with you.” A spark of enthusiasm lights up your eyes as you continue, “I have a fondness for reading novels, especially melodramatic ones. I also enjoy writing in my journals, capturing fleeting moments and thoughts. And of course, I indulge myself in artistic pursuits. I'm currently learning to play the piano, although my heart belongs to the violin.”
Mr. Burton lapsed into a brief silence, his expression thoughtful before he spoke again, a smile adorning his features. “Ah, I see.” He stated appreciatively, “You're a well-educated lady. Quite admirable, I must say.”
“Thank you very much.” You replied, expressing your gratitude for his appreciation.
“What about your aspirations?” Mr. Burton inquired, his inquisitiveness piqued.
“Besides furthering my skills in these areas," you commented, considering his question thoughtfully before speaking further. “I would like to pursue higher education. Many young ladies are attending university, and I don't want to miss out on that opportunity. Attending university would not only broaden my horizons but also equip me with valuable knowledge and skills for the future.”
“Higher education, attending university?” Mr. Burton repeated, his tone tinged with skepticism at your response. “Wouldn't you prefer to settle down instead of pursuing higher education?” He asked, his demeanor shifting slightly.
“Certainly.” You affirmed, carefully choosing your words as you speak. “While settling down is a priority for me, I also recognize the importance of education. I believe it's essential to discuss with my future husband how we can support each other's goals and aspirations, including continuing my studies after marriage.”
Mr. Burton diverted his gaze momentarily, lost in contemplation, before returning his attention to you. “I see.” He stated, his tone neutral. “Well, traditionally, it's expected that a married woman would focus on homemaking and raising her future children. However, life often brings unexpected twists and turns, wouldn't you agree, Miss (Y/N)?”
You tried to conceal any hint of disappointment on you after hearing his words, composing yourself with a smile as you responded back. “Indeed.” You replied evenly. “Everyone has different opinions on such matters.”
You then discreetly clear your throat, dismissing the awkwardness that grew between you two. “Pardon me, but I need to excuse myself to use the restroom.” With that, you turn to leave, but before you can Mr Burton takes hold of your hand.
“Please, enlighten me if I have offended you in any way, I wouldn’t want our acquaintance to end so soon.”
With a slight pause, you regard Mr. Burton with a reassuring smile. “I appreciate your concern, but there’s no need to worry. I simply need a moment to myself.” You withdraw your hand from Mr. Burton’s grasp and proceeded your way inside, leaving him to ponder your words.
You find yourself relieved after freeing yourself from Mr. Burton, feeling crestfallen by the whole exchange. As you navigate the opulent corridors of the mansion, you embark on a quest to locate the restroom within the grandeur mansion. So you have no other option but to seek assistance from other guests, receiving the directions you need. However, your steps come to a sudden halt when you hear gasps emanating from a nearby hallway. Curiosity getting the better of you, you silently make your way towards the source of the noise. To your astonishment, you witness the Prince locked in a passionate embrace, in the arms of a paramour in daylight and in the middle of the hall exposed where anyone can see! An ethereal hush falls over you as you stand transfixed, unable to tear your eyes away from the scandalous scene unfolding before you. Suddenly reality sinks in, and, as you realize the impropriety of your intrusion, you pivot to depart, only for the soft timbre of your footfall to betray your presence. The lovers immediately disengage, their amorous reverie disrupted by the intrusion of an unexpected observer. Their attention is now directed towards your way. Panic seizes you as you hasten to retreat from the scene, your original intention of visiting the restroom forgotten. Meanwhile, Satoru, bewildered by the unexpected encounter, he pushes Emily away from him, his mind racing with a thousand thoughts, feeling a surge of anger and frustration. After eagerly anticipating encountering you after the last ball, he finds himself caught in a compromising situation with one of his ex-lovers, with you as a witness. What a luck.
“What’s the matter, is she one of your whores?” Emily questions indifferent at the fact they were seen, only fueling Satoru’s anger.
“You don’t know what you’re talking about.” He retorts bitterly, leaving Emily behind as he storms off in search of you.
This can't be happening, you thought. As you raced outside, a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions swirled within you. Witnessing such an intimate encounter involving the royal highness left you stunned and disoriented. How could such a scandal unfold before your eyes, and how would you ever muster the courage to face the prince again? Your frantic pace faltered as a sudden obstruction caught you off guard—the delicate fabric of your dress ensnared beneath a passing heel. They swiftly apologized to you. And just when you thought things couldn't get any worse, a clumsy servant inadvertently spilled a drink upon you, drenching your dress completely. Exasperated, you cast a wary glance around, half-expecting yet another misfortune to befall you. Spotting Mr. Burton in the distance, you hastened your steps, eager to evade any encounters with him. Guided by an urgent impulse to seek solace, you sought refuge amidst the verdant tranquility of the sprawling gardens, navigating their winding paths until you found seclusion in a quiet area away from everyone. Seated in solitude, you buried your face in your hands, sighing heavily as the weight of the day's events bore down upon you. Today had been far from your expectations, a disheartening reminder of the challenges that lay ahead in navigating the complexities of courting. This is your first event without Suguru at your side and you definitely ruined it.
“(Y/N)?”
As soon as you hear your name being called, you lift your head, catching the sight of Satoru. With a sense of urgency, you stand up from your spot on the grass, attempting to look presentable, though your efforts were futile.
“Your Highness.” You addressed him formally with a respectful bow.
With a lingering gaze filled with concern, Satoru inspected your appearance as he approached you. “What happened! Are you alright?”
“I assure you, Your Highness, I am perfectly fine. There is no need for concern.” You reassured him, still avoiding meeting his gaze.
He was on the verge of dropping the subject when a frown creased his brow upon hearing you still address him formally. “I thought we had moved beyond formalities, (Y/N).” He noted, a hint of disappointment coloring his tone.
“Ah, indeed. I suppose we did agree to that. However, Your Highness, if I may speak frankly.” You started a note of resignation in your voice. “I believe it's not appropriate for us to maintain such a casual relationship. It doesn't seem fitting for an unmarried woman and a Prince to simply be friends.”
Satoru's frown deepened, conveying his need for you to elucidate further. “Why can’t we? We are capable of fostering a meaningful friendship, much like the one you share with Suguru.”
You paused, carefully selecting your words before continuing. “Our relationship, I dare say, is unique.” Different. Satoru’s frown dissipated, soon replaced by a stoic countenance. “I see. A friendship between us has no place due to my status.” He acknowledged with a subdued tone. Despite his efforts to maintain composure, a sense of disillusionment lingered within him. He wasn't sure why he was feeling this way; after all, he had only known you for a brief period and only had shared one dance with you. And yet, the realization that he couldn't maintain a simple friendship with you due to his elevated status weighed heavily on him.
Both of you lapsed into an uncomfortable silence before he broke the tension with his words. “Was it due to the preceding occurrence?” he queried, his tone carrying a mixture of embarrassment and contrition, mindful of the discomfort you experienced witnessing such a display.
“No, that's not the cause—” You attempted to interject, only to be preempted by the resonant timbre of Mr. Burton's voice, which pierced through the air in search of you. “Miss (Y/N)!”
You finally met his gaze with a deferential nod before addressing him. “Forgive my departure, Your Highness, but I must take my leave.” you conveyed with a sense of urgency. Yet, before you could proceed, he intercepted your path, positioning himself before you.
“Might I inquire as to your companion for the evening? I have not yet seen Suguru, and curiosity beckons.”
“I was graced with an invitation from a suitor, Mr. Burton. However, given my current state, I doubt he would wish to engage with me.” You lamented with a sigh, feeling the weight of social pressure settling upon you. “I fear I shall become the subject of discourse throughout the week.”
Though Satoru longed to extend a comforting gesture, decorum held his hand in check, prompting a stiff nod in acknowledgment. “Might I offer my services as an escort home?” He proposed earnestly. He wishes to stay in your presence longer and extend your conversation, he yearns to know you better in a fitting setting. So, he offered to escort you back with the excuse to spend more time with you.
“Ah, such a gesture is hardly necessary—” You replied with a measure of reservation.
“I implore you to permit my assistance.” He persisted, unwavering in his resolve, eliciting a resigned acquiescence from you. After all, how could you refuse the earnest offer of the Prince?
“Miss (Y/N)!” Satoru’s words were held back once Mr. Burton made his presence known, who halted in his approach upon observing the scene before him. He inspects the form of the Prince up and down before his gaze lays on you.
“Miss (Y/N), are you alright? Pray, what has happened?” Mr. Burton inquired with genuine concern, as he moved towards your way but stopped at Prince’s intimidating form situated at your side.
“Ah, Mr. Burton, it is but a trifling mishap, unworthy of your attention.” You reassured him, while Satoru directed his focus to Mr. Burton, a smile adorning his features.
“Mr. Burton, I discern that Miss (Y/N) is indisposed, and I have offered my services as an escort to ensure her safe return.” Satoru conveyed.
Mr. Burton maintained a brief silence, a fleeting flicker of annoyance crossing his countenance before he composed himself with a genteel bow. “Of course, your highness. I shall entrust Miss (Y/N) to your capable care.” He conceded before taking his leave.
“I am indebted to you.” You murmured unwittingly, prompting a subtle gleam of appreciation from Satoru at your casual words. It may be a little advance but still appreciated.
“I mean, I am grateful for your assistance, your highness.” You hastily corrected yourself.
“Did Mr. Burton cause you any discomfort? You appeared to be avoiding his presence.” Satoru observed astutely.
“Of course, such is not the case. Mr. Burton and I simply hold divergent viewpoints. I daresay we are incompatible.” You explained with a genteel shake of your head.
Satoru's countenance relaxed imperceptibly at your disclosure, a subtle smile gracing his features, even though he has a lingering feeling a line of candidates will soon be at your disposal. “Let us proceed.” He signaled for you to follow him as you both departed from the venue.

Suguru was on the verge of departing from the mansion when he halted in his tracks, his attention drawn to the arrival of a coming carriage. Suspecting it to be your arrival, he paused, anticipation flickering in his eyes, as he longed for you to tell him all about your evening, hoping things went the way you wanted to. However, he rushed towards your way, his pace quickened, as he observed his friend assisting you out of the carriage. “(Y/N)? What has occurred? What happened to your dress?” Suguru questioned with growing concern, his eyes scanning your distressed countenance. His gaze shifted towards his friend, seeking clarification on the situation.
“(Y/N) had a minor inconvenience, so I offered my aid in escorting her back.” Satoru elaborated.
Suguru exhaled softly, expressing his appreciation with a nod, before extending his arm towards you. “Come along, dear.” You accepted his offer taking hold of his arm, as the three of you made your way inside.
As you stepped into the mansion's foyer, a maid promptly attended to your needs, guiding you to your chambers for a change of attire. Meanwhile, Suguru turned his gaze back to his companion with a gracious offer. “Might you consider prolonging your stay?” He proposed, his tone imbued with hospitality.
Satoru politely declined, offering a smile. “I'm certain you have matters to attend to, and I wouldn't wish to impose.”
Suguru waved away his friend's concerns with an affable gesture. “Nonsense, your presence is always welcome.”
Satoru hesitated momentarily before voicing his uncertainty. “Weren't you preparing to depart?”
Suguru shook his head with quiet resolve. “Those matters can wait. I implore you, to accept my invitation.” Eventually, Satoru acquiesced, and the two gentlemen settled in for an exchange of words over a selection of fine beverages.
Suguru's laughter reverberated through the room, filling the air with mirth as he leaned back in his chair, a glass of fine spirits held in one hand. “I must confess, this is utterly incredulous. Are you truly serious?” He remarked, his amusement evident in his tone.
Satoru nods, bringing his own glass to his lips for a sip of his drink. “I'm glad my misfortune brings you such joy.” He retorted dryly, his words laced with sarcasm, as Suguru's laughter continued to fill the room.
Suguru carefully set his drink aside, a mischievous glint in his eyes as he leaned forward. “Come now, let's not assign blame, it is my fault you have a reputation for promiscuity?”
Satoru arched an eyebrow, a wry laugh escaping him. “Well, well, look who's speaking. Aren't you also known as a frequent visitor to the beds of others?”
“Well played.” Suguru emitted a thoughtful hum, reclining leisurely in his seat. “You're fortunate that your dalliance with one of your paramours went unnoticed.”
“Ah, on that matter.” Satoru began, causing Suguru to cast a puzzled glance in his direction.
“(Y/N) bore witness.” Satoru confessed, nearly causing Suguru to lose grip on his drink as he contemplated taking another sip.
“What?” Suguru inquired, now adopting a serious demeanor.
Satoru was taken aback by Suguru's sudden protective stance towards you. “Is there something amiss? Why the agitation?”
Suguru shot his friend an exasperated glance, shaking his head in response. “Now, I know the reasons behind her distress. Not only was her evening a disaster, but she also had to bear witness to such a scandalous display.” He elucidated. “She is unaccustomed to witnessing such acts.”
“You mean...” Satoru's voice trailed off.
Suguru nodded solemnly. “Yes, (Y/N) has never experienced the touch of a man before, let alone the sensation of a kiss.” He revealed. Satoru's surprise was evident upon learning this sudden revelation.
Before Satoru could offer an apology, your presence intervened, interrupting the impending exchange between the two men. Now attired in a different ensemble, you captivated Satoru's heart with your stunning beauty, causing his pulse to quicken. He couldn't deny that one of the reasons he couldn't stop thinking about you since your last encounter was due to your mesmerizing allure.
“Ah, my apologies for the interruption.” You assumed Satoru had taken his leave after escorting you back. Suguru dismissed your concerns with a genial smile, assuring you that you were not intruding and encouraging you to take a seat.
Though hesitant at first, you obliged, settling between the two men until Suguru rose from his seat. “I will return shortly. Please excuse me. In the meantime, please enjoy yourselves.” He declared. You cast a discreet glare toward Suguru, knowing he did it on purpose so that you and Satoru could talk in private.
As Suguru's departure left you and Satoru in a moment of privacy, you offered a slight smile in his direction before shifting your gaze downward, focusing on your hands resting in your lap as you sat somewhat awkwardly in your seat. Satoru then felt compelled to address the discomfort he had inadvertently caused you. “I owe you an apology. I never intended to make you feel uneasy.” Satoru confessed, his tone genuine and earnest. “I understand it was imprudent of me to display such affection in public, and I sincerely hope you can find it within yourself to accept my deepest apologies.”
Straightening in your seat, you nodded graciously, your eyes reflecting understanding and forgiveness. “I accept your apologies, Your Highness.” you replied earnestly, acknowledging his contrition.
He paused, interjecting with a heartfelt plea, understanding your reservations but urging you to reconsider. “I deeply desire a sincere friendship with you, and I know we can find common ground if we expand this acquaintance.” He implored, his sincerity evident in his words. Despite anticipating your hesitance, he beseeched you once more to give it thoughtful consideration, hoping to convince you with his earnestness. His genuine appeal touched you deeply, warming your heart in a way you hadn't expected.
Grateful for his earnest overture and cognizant of the rarity of someone of his stature seeking your friendship, you acquiesced to his proposal. “Very well, I would be honored to count myself among Your Highness' confidantes.” You responded, your tone soft but genuine. Satoru exhaled a relieved sigh, the tension in his countenance dissipating as you accepted his entreaty.
“Let us, if you will, set aside the rigid protocols for the time being. They vex me so.” He chuckled softly, dispelling the tension as you chuckled in agreement.
“I beg your pardon, it is a habit of mine.” You confessed, appreciating his efforts to foster a more relaxed ambiance. “I extend my sincerest gratitude, Satoru.”
As you both lingered in a comfortable silence, locking gazes and finally feeling at ease in each other's presence, Suguru's entrance interrupted the moment. He couldn't resist a teasing remark at the sight of your reconciliation, eliciting laughter from both of you. “Ah, I am delighted to see my two esteemed friends finally reconciled.”
With the evening drawing to a close, Satoru rose from his seat, indicating his intention to depart. Suguru expressed his gratitude for Satoru's assistance, and you echoed his sentiments, thanking him sincerely. Satoru took your hand and placed a gentle kiss upon it, causing a flutter of excitement in your chest that you hoped he wouldn't notice.
“Have a good rest.” He bid you farewell before shaking hands with Suguru and exiting the room. Suguru caught the dreamy expression on your face, poised to tease you about it, but you quickly composed yourself with a glare, leaving him with nothing more to say. “Not a word.”
Tumblr media
Satoru typically sought solace in a late-night ride when burdened with thoughts, finding clarity in the darkness. And after today, his mind is preoccupied with the previous events. However, upon returning from his nocturnal excursion, he noticed an unusual sight: Ethelred, his advisor, standing by the stables with a lantern in hand, seemingly awaiting his return. Satoru approached, dismounting his horse, and inquired about the reason for Ethelred's late-night vigil. His gaze drifted to the peculiar paper clutched in Ethelred's hand, prompting a sense of curiosity and concern. “Ethelred, what are you doing here at such a late hour?”
“Your Highness, I apologize for troubling you at this late hour.” Ethelred began, his voice tinged with urgency. “But I have received a strange letter with no name whatsoever.” He presented the mysterious letter to Satoru, and he accepted the letter with no further comments. Illuminated by the dim light of Ethelred’s lantern, he attempted to decipher its contents despite the dark of the night. As he perused the letter, his features contorting into a mask of ire taking Ethelred by surprise. His hands trembled with rage, as he crumpled the letter and tossed it to the ground. Ethelred recoiled at the sudden outburst, his gaze meeting Satoru’s darkened expression.
“Uncover the sender of this accursed letter.” Satoru’s voice thundered with fury, his eyes ablaze. “Search every corner, leave no stone unturned until you bring them before me. Whoever dares to challenge my authority in such a brazen manner will face the full extent of my wrath!” With those words, Satoru stormed off inside, leaving Ethelred to pick up the remnants of the letter that had ignited His Highness’s ire.

Q&A from streams! (Part 1)
I’ve been planning to do this for a while now. As you may know, there were several streams with the people behind “Heroes of Envell”, mostly with Anton Lanshakov. There were also questions of fans sent to Anton, which he answered in writing form. And I translated the questions and answers for you, because those tiny tidbits of information are interesting and/or could just show Anton’s personality. I got the file with all of these from one of the “Heroes of Envell” fan-groups, so thanks to them for that!
The stream and QnA took place after S1E23 was released. Just so you know why those questions were asked.
Tumblr media
Personal questions for Anton
Q: Anton, what other questions should we ask that you’d like to answer? A: I’m ready to answer any of your questions. Except for the ones about the back side of a hand. Don’t ask.
Q: Are you in Amino? If so, what’s your username? A: No, I’m not
Q: Do you watch AMVs by the channel “clips heroes of envell” (the channel is not mine, by the way) A: Not sure about the channel, but I’ve seen some AMVs. They’re cool.
Q: Many popular games are mentioned in the series, did YOU ever play them? A: I either saw or played almost all of the games mentioned in the series. I’m trying not to reference games that I don’t like. Except for Mario. You can’t not mention Mario. (c)

Now just show-related questions
Q: In episode 23 of season 1 we find out that Helena was a tester of the game. Tell us, what was her life like before she was invited to test “Heroes of Envell” and what relationship did she have with the creators before their fight?
Tumblr media
A: Helena had a lonely life because of difficult relationships with people. It was hard for her to find topics to talk about with others. She has a strict family that doesn’t understand her interests (sci-fi and fantasy). Moreso when Helena wanted to work in game development. The relatives were against it. A fight, a scandal and all that. That’s why when Helena met the creators it felt like finally meeting your best friends. The more painful was their divide.
Q: Can Mister Smile turn not only people, but also other creatures to stone?
Tumblr media
A: He can. He even did it in episode 12, but behind the scenes. A couple of school hamsters are still shocked.
Q: Does Buckwheat have a database that he can change?
Tumblr media
A: He does have a database, but he can’t change it.
Q: Why did Ilya refuse to help them? Did they [the protags] prank him before?
Tumblr media
A: Yes, after episodes 10 and 12 Ilya is wary of the heroes. But Ilya refused to help not because he was sour, but because of the fear becoming a victim of a prank. Some people often imagine the worst outcomes. Just in case. Ilya imagined that Art is planning to prank him. And if that’s the case, eat this, Art!
Q: The fact that Phil is always falling somewhere - like in episodes 15, 16 and 21 - is that his thing?
Tumblr media
A: It’s called a running gag. Phil is the kind of character that is fun to make walk on a banana peel.
Q: Could Helena and Mr. Turner become a couple?
Tumblr media
A: He’s single, she’s single. I can’t see why not. [Do you see how cool with ships this guy is?]
Q: Did Kira and Helena listen to “Ranetki” [a russian pop-rock girlband from 2010s]?
Tumblr media
A: I think it would be just Helena. And not for long. Then she started listening to Adele.
Q: What was Helena like in 2007? [idk man, 2007 is some meme I don’t get]
Tumblr media
A: Happy. She believed that she could change something about the world.
Q: Did she [Helena] already work at the school when the game was being made?
Tumblr media
A: No. She didn’t have experience of working at a school before the events of the series. How did she convince the principal? Personal charm and fake documents.
Q: What game genre does she [Helena again] like the most?
Tumblr media
A: jRPG and Sims (secretly).
Q: Won’t Mourgarth freeze in winter?
Tumblr media
A: My answer is simple: a hat, a scarf and two pairs of gloves.
Q: What do Buckwheat’s seizures mean? (When he yells and his eyes go red)
Tumblr media
A: We’ll learn about that later. [I’m still not sure if we have. I think Anton said later that it’s just Buckwheat being angry, but... I don’t know, man.]
Q: Why are Kira’s parents divorced?
Tumblr media
A: Their personalities didn’t go well with each other. The mother always tried to change the father and didn’t understand that she wanted to turn a person she loved into a person that doesn’t exist. The father refused to change and didn’t understand that relationships don’t stop after a wedding and that they need to be maintained the whole life. In other words, a common story.
Q: How old are the protags and in what grade are they?
Tumblr media
A: They’re in 9th grade. You can count the age yourselves. [That’d be 14-15 y.o.]
Q: Does Art have a sister or a brother that live with his mother?
Tumblr media
A: No, Art doesn’t have sisters or brothers. Nor a mother.
Q: Does Phil have a sister?
Tumblr media
A: No.
Q: Why can our heroes use the game weapons and items in the real world? If they can take it in and out of the game (the Cube and Creep, for example), can they take Val out the same way?
Tumblr media
A: The rules are strict: only things considered to be equipment can be taken out of the game. Small Creep fits into the inventory, thus technically making him an equipment. And Val isn’t. Why all of this works - we’ll find out later.
Q: Should’ve Val fallen in love with one of the players according to the plot [of the game]?
Tumblr media
A: Val shouldn’t have fallen in love. But she couldn’t resist  when she saw Vic.
Q: We’re shown that a butterfly flies out of each marionette, since that’s the robots’ life source. But, question, why do marionettes just get destroyed sometimes? And where do the forest people go after that?
Tumblr media
A: It’s just that insects don’t always fly out instantly. And when they do, they fly in random directions and don’t remember anything about their past lives. A sad fact.
Q: Do Val, Bertie, Chief and Yanni remember other players? And do they have their personal favourites?
Tumblr media
A: They remember and they have favourites. And Phil wasn’t one of them until episode 21. The big guy’s name is Berten’, by the way.

SUMMARY Anguished cries traveled within the confines of your senses, as an overwhelming sense of apprehension engulfed your corporeal form like a parasitic trap. With quivering hands, you elevate them to your gaze level. The liquid resting on your hands is a sight destined to endure in the recesses of your consciousness till your last breath.
"What have you done?!" The utterance emanates from the voice beside you, laden with disbelief, ire, and authentic terror. The beautiful tone of your skin has been supplanted by a scandalously vivid red, as it escaped through the crevices of your fingers, similar to an endless waterfall meeting the cold ground. A horrified wail escapes your lips, agony resonating within your throat while your blood-stained hands grasp your hair, further staining it with the evidence of your turmoil.
