Just FYI for anyone who doesn't know- this is a police liaison officer- sometimes known as a protest liaison officer. They wear these blue vests, and try to act like your friend at protests.
They are not your friend, that is super important to remember. They are gathering intelligence. They will try to get your details, covertly or otherwise, and listen in on conversations between protestors.
A lot of the first PLOs were FIT officers (intelligence officers) first, and there is also evidence of PLOs harassing activists at home: https://netpol.org/police-liaison-officers/
They've also been involved in assaults on the press: https://netpol.org/2014/02/04/police-liaison-officer-assaults-press-photographer/
They may tell you that they want to work with you, or to help protests remain peaceful and so on, but intelligence gathering is a key part of their role: https://netpol.org/2014/06/17/police-liaison-intelligence-balcombe/
Anyway, just remember guys- don't talk to cops, no matter what colour they are wearing.
Also, remember, currently, legally you do not have to inform police of static protests, and you do not have to discuss marches with police.

On Wednesday May 17, A female FBI Agent approached Burning Books wanting information about an arson attack on an anti-choice medical center. In June of 2022, a pro-choice activist group, Jane’s Revenge, claimed responsibility for the action. Burning Books is trying to spread this information around the activist community to be aware.
reminder to everyone that the state plays a long game, and doesn’t easily forget. just because an action happened a year or more ago doesn’t mean it’s now safe to openly talk about it. keep it need to know. don’t go bragging. don’t go speculating. don’t talk to cops. and most of all don’t go snitching.

might fuck around and ID as transselectivemute so I don't have to talk to cops. and so I can just stop talking when I have low energy or am stressed. I get a lot of anxiety around cops and I'd probably struggle to compose myself tbh.
it would be nice just to sign when I feel uncomfortable.

The scene in NWH with the cops
Just thinking about how Marvel having MJ and May yell "DON'T SAY ANYTHING WITHOUT A LAWYER" while demonstrating the manipulation tactics that police use in casual conversation with Ned to get folks to self-incriminate - in one of the biggest movies of all time which was viewed by 20 million people in America on the first weekend alone - was very cash money of them actually

A law school professor who was a defense attorney says never talk to the cops, even if you are innocent, and explains why. Then a cop comes in and affirms all of that and explains how he manipulates people into talking even though it’s best for people if they don’t.
Everyone living in America, and everyone planning to visit or move to the USA, needs to watch this video.
