you ever just think about how the leverage writers gave us a (basically) canon polyamorous relationship confirmation in the long goodbye job?
like, they didn’t have to go that hard
but they did
parker, hardison and eliot are seen as a unit, working together in sync. there are callbacks to the pilot episode multiple times that are centered around their interactions.
and then there’s the “death” scene: aka, the scene that proves just how ride or die they are for each other. they die in each other’s arms. they die holding hands. what’s even more- the two in a canon established relationship are not the ones holding hands. no- instead, it is eliot who is in the middle. eliot, their hitter, their protector, their best friend. he was the one that was in the middle, holding hands with hardison and then parker. he is the one that reaches out and grabs hardison’s hand, reassuring him one last time and referencing an inside joke. parker then makes a point to move and grab eliot’s hand in her own- her literal last act before dying. you CANNOT tell me that is anything but pure, unadulterated love. they lived together. they breathed together. they died together.
AND THEN, as if that wasn’t enough, we had this scene in the final minutes of the show:
sophie: promise me, (looks at parker and hardison) you'll keep them safe.
eliot: till my dying day.
let's take a minute to acknowledge that literally a minute after nate proposes to sophie eliot says THIS??? something reminiscent of marriage vows about parker and hardison? he will protect them until his dying day and not a second before.
and then we have this:
nate: you know, eliot, I'd say call if you need anything, but you never... never need anything.
eliot: yeah, I did. (looks at parker and hardison) and thanks to you, I don't have to search anymore.
parker never had a family, not really, but it's been established that she knows she's not alone, that she has people that care about her, that she is loved (the white rabbit job). hardison had his nana and his family, but we saw at the beginning of the show he was eager to slide into this new found family of his. he cares deeply, loves deeply. and now, at the end of eliot's arc, he admits that all that time, he was missing something. he looks at parker and hardison and states with conviction that he doesn't have to search anymore.
they all have what they were missing at the beginning of the show- each other.

They were already dining when Crowley learned that Aziraphale had the photograph and they were safe. They went to the bookshop, set up a romantic dinner with wine and candles, all while Crowley thinking that they were to get reported to Hell and might get summoned at every moment which would meant eternal separation (torture on Crowely’s behalf without question). Crowley was under the impression that this was their last night together and he was perfectly content spending it with Aziraphale like that.

Thinking about how Stede had hoped he'd get to marry for love. Thinking about how he was uncomfortable in a married state as a result. Thinking about how he knows now that he's in love with Ed. Thinking about how pirates had a form of marriage between men. Hoping he'll get the chance to see if love makes the difference.

Then [after Miriel's passing] Finwe lived in sorrow; and he went often to the gardens of Lorien and sitting beneath the silver willows beside the body of his wife he called her by her names. But it was unavailing; and alone in all of the Blessed Realm he was deprived of joy.

thinking about how Folkwin never doubted Ari and was willing to always fight for him. That he defended him in front of others, and even himself. That Folkwin always believes that Ari was still his friend. That he knew that Ari would come back eventually. That he was the one who was willing to forgive Ari for everything he did. That Folkwin always trusted Ari to be a good person, even if Ari didn't trust himself. Thinking about how Folkwin stood with Ari even as he defended Rome, even when he stole the eagle, even when he saw his own family dead and crucified, even when Ari outright said that wants to kill him. Because he loves Ari. Thinking about how he was willing to and give everything for Ari, but Ari decided to take the one person Folkwin needed and it destroyed him. Thinking about how Ari never gave anything for Folkwin, how Ari never gave anything to make himself appear more trustworthy. Thinking about how Folkwin thought the two people that he loved, the two people he needed, the two people that defined him left him to rot. Thinking about no matter what they did Folkwin never really got back his. Thinking about how the only thing Ari was ever willing to give was a position didn't even want. Thinking about how no one stuck to the agreement that the marriage would be only a political step. Thinking about how the only thing to keep Folkwin from total self destruction was someone who never demanded anything of him. Thinking about how even then he gave everything for Thusnelda and Ari. Thinking about how Ari told him that he loved him, has always loved him, at the one point in his life that Folkwin was willing to give up his love. Thinking about how Folkwin died professing his love and hatred as if he was guilty of something, because Ari did everything wrong but he was the one who left. Thinking about how Folkwin is the one person defined by and through love in this show, a sword bearer, the only one whose love was stronger than his hatred.
A knight of hearts in a game of spades and clubs.

No one has addressed the light glyph. The first glyph that King's Dad ever shows to Luz, the first hope she has of ever becoming a witch, the glyph that furthered her knowledge of the Boiling Isles and its magic. It's the first glyph Luz shows Amity. It all started with that glyph and that's how it ends.
It's the light glyph that saves everyone from their puppet states. It's in Luz' eyes as soon as she opens them after she's been resurrected. It's the first glyph Luz tries when she realizes the lack of magic right after the final battle. And it's the first glyph shown to Luz when she comes back to the Isles in the timeskip.
(Do NOT get me started on when she died because that's a whole other rant.)
It's, arguably, the simplest glyph the Isles has, that we've seen. The Collector says it themselves when Luz shows it to him- a baby could do that (and yes I know they say directly after that it's impressive that she can do it with just pencil and paper, but still). And I just think there's something really beautiful in that, because no matter how complex the themes and character development and everything else was, the show... was really easy. In the way we could reasonably predict plot points (Whittebros, Hunter being a grimwalker, Belos dying onscreen and without a hint of redemption, etc.) and still enjoy it and have fun. Because we weren't being pandered to; we were being heard. And that's the difference between this show and its writers and fandom from others I've seen in the past. We've been a team the entire time because it was so simple.
I'm rambling and getting off topic but my points still stand and I just personally LOVE the light glyph and how it's carried and progressed through the show. It was there in the best of times and the worst of times. It saved everyone. All because the Titan thought Luz was kind and smart enough to utilize it. Because she deserved it.

I know we are all hyped, and anxious and we want answer, but this exchange here is basically Takemichi’s way of asking “Babe please, talk to me” (in context of a gang fight) and in a way, Mikey does and I’m- 🥹

KYYYYY! tell me about the tangled au!!!
OKAY so i've already talked about the Tangled AU here, but... let me see if i can come up with a little more!
ok ok ok so maybe some Alex backstory 👀 idk if you've heard the tangled headcanon where the queen is a bookworm like Rapunzel and, to cope with her grief, visits the children at the orphanage regularly and reads to them and one of the books she reads is "The Tales of Flynnigan Rider" and that's how Eugene gets the book that he creates his new name from
and I thought, maybe Catherine does something like that to cope with losing Henry, and at the end when Alex brings Henry home, he recognizes Catherine as the woman who used to read to him and the other kids, and he remembers how kinds she had always been, but how there had been a sadness behind her eyes that never quite seemed to go away, and he gets a little emotional as he realizes that he's finally able to pay that wonderful woman back for the kindness she showed him as a child.
(original tangled headcanon under the cut)

The weight of victory
So I've played around with this idea in my fics before, but I wanna talk about Izuku's unreasonable expectations of Katsuki - that is, Katsuki being the embodiment of victory. Can you imagine the sort of weight that carries, when you look behind the gilded, rose-tinted admiration? When it's not so much a vote of confidence but rather a millstone around Katsuki's neck?
Tumblr media
That's not to say Katsuki isn't very good at winning, even when they were little and he was beating up the older kids. Katsuki himself also holds the belief that Heroes=Winning and has staked almost his entire being on it. And Izuku grew up watching Katsuki excel at everything he's ever tried his hand at, so it's expected that he would have an idealised, lionized version of him in his head, one who fulfils that 'winning' notion. But when does it become... too much?
Spoilers for Chap 362 behind cut.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because Izuku has put Katsuki on a pedestal he cannot step down from, one he has refused to let Katsuki step down from. Izuku is so bound up in his belief that Kacchan=Victory that he literally resorts to violence to protect this idea, against the very person who is his 'Victory'.
Izuku punching Katsuki and saying "You'd rather lose? That doesn't sound like you!" I couldn't help but think "But what gives you the right to say that?" I mean I love Izuku, and obviously Katsuki needed the wake-up call to stop being a selfish jerk and work with him, but it still made me weirdly uncomfortable about it. It's weirdly possessive in a way I can't put my finger on.
Tumblr media
Kacchan has to win.
This is what Izuku is telling Katsuki here, both a plea and a threat all at once: you have to win because you're not you otherwise. And Katsuki has carried the weight of those expectations for the entirety of this manga, maybe even his whole life. Even when he's wanted to he's not allowed to lose, because Izuku won't let him.
And yet defeat came for him anyway. When he got captured and the result was that All Might lost the last of One for All, it was a loss that Katsuki blamed himself for and saw as him letting down his greatest hero.
Tumblr media
This, right here. Katsuki admitting his weakness? Katsuki voicing his inner demons and his self-doubt and recriminations against himself? What Katsuki learnt here was I fuck things up by being weak, by losing. Almost 'proving' Izuku right in the cruellest of ways.
Katsuki is shaped by this loss, and while it helped his character grow, it also twisted it into something incredibly heartbreaking, because his self-worth is still dependent on his performance. And to add to this already crippling belief, Izuku wasn't as strong as he'd hoped he'd be. That's right. Katsuki wanted Izuku to win Deku vs Kacchan 2. He was practically desperate for him to win it, because then he could feel like All Might's choice was justified. If Izuku won, then it would validate Katsuki's complicated feelings about Izuku's growth.
Tumblr media
Katsuki's conclusion at the end of Deku vs Kacchan 2 was 'so… nothing's really changed about what I've gotta do'. Why? What would have needed to happen to change what he has to do? Was he looking for some absolution of his responsibility to win? If Izuku won and took that mantle of being the most powerful, could Katsuki have been the one free to make mistakes? To have a kind of safety net for not being the strongest?
But Izuku didn't win. So then, what is Katsuki left with?
Victory.
He is the one who has to shoulder victory, and while he's grown out of wanting to win by himself, it doesn't alleviate the burden on him to win. Because he's not Bakugou Katsuki if he doesn't win. Even All Might himself pointed out this unfair expectation, how he overlooked Katsuki's fragility because of his strength. But even after this watershed moment I don't think Izuku really understood this, I don't think he ever saw his admiration as shackles around Katsuki's heart.
Tumblr media
Katsuki still wants to win, don't get me wrong. He wants absolute victory, no casualties, because that's what drives him as a hero. But there is a difference between wanting to win out of heroism, and wanting to win because there is no other choice. Because what are we left with, when a boy who is expected to win by the person closest to him, who wants him to not be weak, to not surrender, to fight, gets thrown into a no-win scenario?
Tumblr media
This panel completely broke my heart because it's just the culmination, the proof of every uneasy feeling I've had about Izuku's admiration of Katsuki. Katsuki has just had the absolute shit beaten out of him, his most powerful move turned out to be useless, he's half-blind and in so much agony he can barely move and still. Still. He thinks of Izuku, and believes he needs to win. I didn't read this as "We need to win, right Izuku?" but rather "I need to win, right Izuku?" as if calling out to him, confirming Izuku's faith in him.
So he gave it his one last shot while imitating the one person who has surpassed him, the one Katsuki wants to reach out to. He has finally acknowledged Izuku as being stronger, as the one who will ultimately win this fight.
Tumblr media
But he died for the symbol of victory he represents to Izuku anyway.

Yo! Guess what! I just started my very own fanfic blog. Wanna know the best part? One of the main reasons I’ve decided I’m now confident enough to start posting my own works is because of you. Seeing you pour your heart and soul into fics and post them here for others to enjoy despite the threat of criticism was massively inspiring to me, and I decided that seeing you succeed meant I could succeed too. Case in point: Thank you! You’re a massive part of why I’m getting out of my comfort zone and finally starting the blog I’ve been fantasizing over for almost a year now :) keep being awesome!!
real footage of me rn:
Tumblr media
I can't even begin to describe how proud and happy I am for you! Sharing your work with others takes a tremendous amount of courage and I can't wait for you to experience the wonderful feeling of having your stories resonate with someone.
Ignore unwarranted criticism, it will be completely drowned out by support anyway! I am so so excited to see what you have in store and I'm honoured to have played a small part in the beginning of your fanfic author journey <3
