2023 YEAR IN REVIEW!!!

My artstyle changed a lot this year, especially after my shift from ibis paint to procreate after getting my iPad (drawing on an iPad is the BEST btw 100% recommend I love it way more than a phone and it didn’t die after a month like my old wacom 💀💀). I’m relatively happy with where my art is atm and I hope to continue to improve in 2024!

Explanation of all the silly art down below! (Mostly so I can tell y’all who the fanart is for but also cause I like rambling)

January: A drawing of my Rise Leo human design I did to test out a pixel brush I found for Ibis Paint. He’s very fun to draw hehe I need to draw him more-

February: I wanted to learn how to draw the future designs of Leo and Mikey along with CJ so I planned to draw them all together! I struggled with Leo though so I just got rid of him. Sorry Peepaw 😞😞💔💔💔

March: Fanart for @beannary ‘s TLP au! I love it so much so I had to draw smth for it hehe 😈😈💥💥💥 which reminds me I need to draw more at some point- might redraw it at some point cause I’m not super happy with how it turned out but I do like the idea a lot

April: The month I created Reticent! April’s Fools was the first episode I came up with so I drew a chapter poster! It ended up being very different to the chapter cover I drew a couple months later but it’s still cool :D Leo is being weirdly affectionate to Mikey though what the heck that isn’t like him smh. Although I guess it was meant to be purposefully exaggerated sooooo 🥰

May: Reticent Casey!!! I don’t have much to say it’s just Reticent Casey HDKSGXKSHD this wasnt a very good art month

June: Krangified Donnie is literally my favourite concept ever thats it that’s all I have to say dbskdbwkh I adore Krangified Donnie and if the Rise brainrot takes over the Reticent brainrot for a while then I will probably be drawing Krangified Donnie during that time sorry not sorry

July: Reticent Chapter 3’s cover yippee!!! Still my favourite Reticent cover although Chapter 8’s is a close second (I can’t wait to post it once it’s been betaread yippee!!!). The scribble over Leo’s eyes is literally just because I was struggling to draw his eyes and i was getting annoyed dbskdbskdb it’s actually a very common issue with him (common Ret!Leo L). Also Mikey being reflected in the mirror is a reference to Mirror Man by Jack Stauber which I’ve basically considered his theme song since @aaronymous999 introduced it to me ebwjcbkwhd thank you Mr. Aaronymous! Also somebody said he was in the barbie box and I still need to draw that to this day because Mikey would’ve killed to go see Barbie.

August: RET DONNIE WOOOOO he’s being bullied again!!! I drew that piece for a colour palette challenge request and realised I got the prompt wrong so I just made it into its own thing 💥💥💥 it’s usually a flickering light gif but I chose to just use the version with the light on for this post. The photos in the background were really fun to draw hehe either April’s or Mikey’s is my favourite.

September: MY 500 FOLLOWER DTIYS YIPPEE (/my 150 follower DTIYS for tumblr). This one took me. Forever to draw and I love it to pieces hehe it was really fun to design Mikey’s room and figure out outfits for the sillies and idk the concept of a sleepover just seemed really fun to me dbskbdkdb- and all the entries I got were so so awesome I loved them all to pieces!!! I still look at them all the time hehe

October: FANART OF @endlesslogo ‘S HUMAN RISE LEO DESIGN WOOOOOO!!! This was the piece I started rendering on hehe it was so much fun to draw!!!! Although I did have a fight with rendering the hair for over an hour svsjegksbdk HOW DO PEOPLE DO IT FR!!!

November: Me and my friends were working on a crossover between our TMNT iterations so I drew all of our Karai’s together!!! Confluence Karai is on the left, created by Salem and Marine, New Stars Karai is in the middle created by Starla, and Reticent Karai is on the right created by me! All our Karais have such cool designs AHHHHH literally dead over them constantly/pos

December: Most of December I spent drawing Christmas presents so this was my present for Salem!!! Confluence!Jonatello my beloved….

So that question is that possible that August and Getaway car and even maybe Paris and lavender haze connect somehow?

yeah i thought that was an odd choice for an object to represent august! why not a building shaped ornament, you know? it actually reminded me of the Mystery Event Pack treasure map taymoji, although i feel like that connection maybe is past the statute of limitations.

i haven’t gotten around to thinking about all the songs talking about maps or staring at ceilings and drawing them but it has been something ive thought about thinking before 😆

i don’t know how much august would literally fit into these other songs but i do think that the idea of ~cancelling plans just in case they’d call~ has the same mastermind energy of laying the groundwork for love that shows up in songs like paris. so it captures the spirit of how taylor approaches love. and i think in general the idea of drawing maps on the ceiling in this era is about taylor lying awake in bed planning out these romantic mastermind moves when she couldn’t fall asleep at night.

i think my right hand have gotten tenser or smth... it doesnt hurt it just feels like idk tighter esp in the thumb palm area and the joints. idk if it was cause i drew so much in august or what, i didnt even overwork myself i took breaks and did my stretches but still this happened... on the bright side im pretty sure it improved my splatoon charger game exponentially, like ive been hitting my shots wayyy more often but also when i play almost any other kind of weapon, esp shooters, im much slower to move and adjust my aim and react quickly bc its so tense.

Walker- 1x04 ~spoilers~

I know i’ve said this a dozen times...but Walker just keeps getting better and better and better! With every. single. episode. I loved everything about this episode so much and again! Jared live-tweeting it was the best!!! I watched this episode at 3 am lats night again help.

~spoilers~ last warning!!!

OK SO CRDIREZ BEAUTY EPISODE!!! YES! I loved loved loved loved the development of their friendship in this episode SO MUCH!

First scene Cordirez and them badass rangers catching bad guys together YES!!! Walker trying to find out Micki’s middle name is so cute pls.

I really enjoyed the case they worked here as well. It was both deep and emotional and that twist! YEPPPP SIGN ME UP.

THE BAR SCENE WITH WALKER AND MICKI. AGAIN THEIR FRIENDSHIP! The episode title fit so well here and I’m glad Micki and Walker have really reached a good understanding on a friend and partner level. THEY\RE THE CUTEST PLEASE I LOVE THEM.

‘‘walker where’s my drink’‘ ok every word micki and cordell exchanged with each other was the best???

WALKER AND HIS KIDS AND BROTHER UNPACKING TOGETHER!!! I asolutely adore their relatioship. AUGUST IN THAT BLUE HAIR AND SUNGLASSES DHJHHF AUGUST I FUCKING LOVE YOU CAN I ADOPT YOU.

I really adored the tiny exchange between Stella and Walker. Speaks volumes of how much they’ve progressed since the pilot. Walker and Stella’s dynamic I ADORE so seeing them at really good terms is just beautiful.

Annnddd now August is being the rebellious kid.

I’m glad they brought up Belle’s case here as well bc i thought they’d completely overshadowed it. STELLA AND BELLE ARE SO CUTE! I WANT SO MUCH MORE OF THEM

-I love how this show is really taking the time to address the difficulties someone like Micki- A Female Latina would go through- the sexism, blatant disrespect and disregard. Micki’s character is also something that’s very well written and acted(Lindsey ily) and portrayed extremely well. One of my favorite things about Walker is how he really trusts Micki, views her as an equal, and wants to earn her trust, not demand it. It’s perfect(cordirez breakdown time). Micki is also slowly letting her fences down around him and it’s a huge and very delightful to see step. I love and adore their friendship and chemistry so much.

MICKI SPEAKING IN SPANISH IS AN OFFICIAL TURN ON FOR ME BYE.

ALL OF THEM SOLVING THE CASE TOGETHER!!! NOT JUST CORDIREZ BUT TREY TOO! WALKER AND TREY MEETING TOGETHER WHEN.

Success!!!! The Micki and Walker and Larry scene at the end was so cute! I like how they’re actually invested in their jobs and want to do good it’s so heartwarming.

That last scene with Walker and his mom was so touching. Walker’s relationship with his parents is so sweet. His mom hugging him and comforting him when Walker said he missed emily so much *cries* I just wanna hold him please.

August being worried for his father’s happiness I JUST. YOU SWEET BOY. I really think messaging Twyla was a baaaaddd move though.

WALKER AND AUGUST SELFIE. The way Walker so easily just picked his son and brought him to him, made him family photographer and that scene. THE BEST.

I genuinely don’t think anything happened between Twyla and Walker. But we’ll have to see.

oKAY SO. Captain James??? It’s just an on and off thing. Do I trust him? Do i don’t? Why did he take those surveillance vids out??? I trust Liam with it and i’m glad he’s looking into it and all. Hopefully it doesn’t backfire badly. I have a very bad feeling that James had something to do with Emily’s death.

THAT STELLA AND BELLE INTERACTION. SO CUTE. Stella giving that jar of jame to try and make up and Belle being all cute and funny I love them. For a sec i was so scared Belle might yell at her but I’m very happy to see that they’re going strong despite all the circumstances- Belle’s parent’s deportation.

ALSO TREVOR IS SO HOT??? I like him and Stella they’re cute. Stella so obviously has a huge crush on him and they ride horses so well together. HHAHAHAH THAT DANCE STELLA DID WHEN HE FOLLOWED HER ON INSTA. SO RELATABLE.

The last Tricki scene mY HEART. ‘’you wanted a hero so you drew one. then you became one’’ Micki is going to be such an inspiration I love her. And the way they interacted, Trey getting a job!!! And Micki’s excitement, THEIR HUG!!! ‘’hugging is one of my superpowers’’ TREY BARNETT I LOVE YOU.

Anyways! As you can see the entire episode was so enjoyable and I loved it. The best part of this was definitely the Cordirez friendship development and i cannot wait to see where it goes from here!

Speculation/Thoughts for Episode 5:- So it’s for sure that Walker is going back undercover as Duke who’s a baseball...person? Idk he was wearing a baseball hat so :) Walker’s past is now very much mixed in with his present and I AM SCARED. What he’s doing is yet to be revealed but Tywla is coming back and that will just. mess. things. up. The scene in which Walker is yelling at August GOD SO NOT READY FOR THAT. It feels like him and his kids might go back to how they were before. I really don’t want that to happen. Also why am I expecting a major cliffhanger.

HEY BUT THERE’S SHIRTLESS WALKER AND! MICKI RIDING THAT MECHANICAL HORSE IN A BAR OR SMTH AND MORE INSIGHT INTO WHAT TREY IS DOING SO IM VERY EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

oh!!!! :D hmmmm.... lets seeeeee (I’ll post the links to these) I don’t think I have a good enough Art to Writing ratio to do them both but I’ll put writing in an “honorable mention” thing 5. Professor Layton Outfit August Au

I LOVE professor layton and I really like the headcannon where Aurora was based off of Desmond’s Daughter because of Azran Tech stuff, and oh my gosh I didn’t intend to make an AU where Targent/the Enclave killed Miranda but that’s sort of what the idea in this outfit august one was and it hurts me. I dunno how much I’d explore it further but drawing Desmond, Descole and Aurora’s clothes again was a joy since it’s been over a year since I drew PL art. 4. Outfit August where I referenced Infinity Train I really liked being able to draw Arcade n’ Mira in casual outfits since I have a giant analysis/outfit study compilation stashed away for that very purpose. I was watching Infinity Train again in light of the new season and I was having trouble choosing the background so I was like “heeeyyy what if they were in the show?” so I ended up experimenting with backgrounds by basing it off of the wasteland the train travels in. It was a LOT of fun to mess around with colors. 3. Bear Trap Times with Arcade (TW: blood/injury) I really, really wanted to do a serious picture with Arcade’s beartrap accident soon after I started developing that concept but I haven’t gotten around to doing it until after I developed the scene a little in my brain. While the anatomy of it was a PAIN to do, I’m super happy with the end result and I love that plotline a lot. It hurts but there’s some interesting stuff to be explored with Arcade ^^. 2. Arcade in the dead money jumpsuit and a tanktop I just like how this Arcade looks lol. It’s been about a year since I started drawing him and it’s really great to see how much I’ve improved. Also he looks nice in that outfit, I love that aesthetic with the jumpsuit and tanktop.

1. Spirited Away reference with Arcade n’ Mira I drew this soon after watching Spirited Away with my mom. I was having a lot of troubles with anxiety at that time and I wanted to draw smth peaceful with Arcade n’ Mira. It was a lot of fun to design and to make the lights of the city n’ the night sky. I still look at this picture and feel a wave of peace when I look at it. It’s honestly one of my favorite Arcade n’ Mira pics. Honorable Mentions, writing edition: My favorite writings that I’ve done are chapter three of TYBtM and the one shot with River. I’m still pretty new to writing so I’m really proud of how much I’ve improved as of late. ^^

so to continue with my tradition of writing (bad) horror fanfics i’ve started a frankenstein one. @justastormie wants to read this one, too, for some ungodly reason known only to themselves. anyway, here’s the beginning of smth that’s rlly just an excuse for me to write two assholes falling into something that might be love but they’re never going to admit it:

one.

It is a curious feeling going to sleep in one place and waking up in another. It brings a special kind of disorientation that nothing else comes close to; whether it is born of falling asleep in a carriage or being carried upstairs by a parent, the feeling never becomes less disturbing. These were Miss Eglantine Dupré's thoughts upon awakening in a strange carriage. She blinked at the darkness for a few moments before drawing back the curtains--an action which she immediately regretted. The carriage was traveling up a steep road on the very edge of a seemingly bottomless ravine. She quickly closed the curtain.

A soft laugh came from the seat opposite her. "You never did have a head for heights."

"Aldis? Is that you?" She squinted in the renewed darkness. "Have we reached Cambridge yet?"

He laughed again, leaning forward into what little light there was. His face was gaunt and shone with a sickly pallor in the darkness. "In a manner of speaking. We are in Switzerland."

A peculiar panic rose in Miss Dupré's throat. "What are we doing in Switzerland?"

"It cannot have escaped your attention these many months that I am not a well man." He coughed, as though to prove his illness to her. "There is a," he paused, "specialist who lives in these mountains who may be able to cure me once and for all. Unfortunately, I did not have the means to make such a journey. That is where you came in, darling. Your father paid for this little trip."

"My father would do no such thing!"

"Not willingly, no. I kidnapped you, Eglantine. This trip and the money to pay the doctor were provided by your father on the condition that you be safely returned to him."

"And yet here I am in Switzerland with you. How can this be?"

"For the simple reason that I killed your father when he handed over the money. I couldn't have him tarnishing my reputation as one of Boston's most eligible bachelors. Your presence is merely a boon. It became... inconvenient to leave you behind. Besides, you may prove a valuable bargaining chip. I hear Baron Frankenstein has been locked up in his chateau alone for almost three years. He will be desperate for company."

Eglantine slapped her ex-fiancé across the face.

"Well, if that's how you feel." He returned the blow with twice the force and was about to renew his blow when the carriage drew to a halt. "We will have to postpone this little argument, darling. It appears that we have arrived at Chateau Frankenstein."

The carriage door opened to reveal a shabby coachman dressed in a faded black cape and top hat. He smiled with yellowed teeth. "We're here, Mr. Jones."

"Excellent, Clemens. How did you and Mrs. Clemens pass the journey?"

"Oh, very well, sir. Although Mrs. Clemens weren't too fond of those heights when we went through the pass."

"Miss Dupré wasn't please with the heights either," Aldis chuckled. "But the views were spectacular." He exited the carriage and, for a brief moment, looked as though he was going to fall. Mr. Clemens steadied him. "The air here is excessively thin," Aldis said. "It appears to affecting my head? Would you please fetch Miss Dupré, Clemens?"

The coachman did as he was asked and fairly pulled Eglantine from the carriage. "Now then, miss, there's no point in being difficult. Mr. Jones has brought you a long way to meet the baron and meet the baron you shall!"

"Is that what you told them?" Eglantine cried. "That you brought me here to meet Baron Frankenstein?" She struggled against Clemens' grip. "He's kidnapped me," she screamed, hoping that someone would hear her. "He kidnapped me and he killed my father!"

Clemens shook his head. "We know that, miss. We helped him."

She went limp. Her only chance at escape now lay with the mysterious doctor that Aldis was hoping to consult: Baron Frankenstein. She allowed Mr. Jones to take her arm and lead her up the drive to the door.

Chateau Frankenstein was crumbling in every sense of the word. Great chucks of rock had fallen onto the path and the stones that remained were split with worrying cracks. The door spit dust the moment Aldis touched it with his knuckles. The sound of his knock rang out.

They waited. Eglantine swallowed her fear and straightened her dress. If she was to enlist Baron Frankenstein's help she would have to look halfway presentable. Just as the silence was becoming oppressive, the door creaked open and they caught their first glimpse of Baron Frankenstein.

He was no longer a young man. His hair was slicked back in a severe fashion and what little he had left was liberally tinged with gray. Eglantine put his age somewhere around fifty. He surveyed them with sharp blue eyes. "May I help you?" He asked.

"Baron Frankenstein? I am Aldis Jones, I believe you received my letter.”

The baron frowned. "I don't receive mail."

Aldis almost laughed. "I find that hard to believe, sir."

"It is somewhat hard to receive mail when one is legally dead, Mr. Jones," Baron Frankenstein said, arching his left eyebrow in an artful manner. "You will have to tell me of your letter's contents."

He took a step forward. "May we at least discuss this inside? It is of a delicate nature."

"I assumed as much." The baron's eyes flickered in Eglantine's direction. "Please, come in, I was just making tea."

The interior of Chateau Frankenstein was a stark contrast to the exterior. It was beautifully furnished with sumptuous antiques of the previous century. It was all Eglantine could do to suppress a gasp. Aldis was not so subtle.

"This is magnificent, sir!" he exclaimed. "Is it even the same building?"

"It is. The shabby exterior keeps me safe. It was not always as such, I had to retrieve most of my family's belongings from the Burgomaster's widow." He gave a sly smile. "But widows are so easily persuaded."

Aldis chuckled politely. "Indeed they are."

The baron led them through a series of tapestried corridors and into a comfortable sitting room. He poured three cups of tea and handed the first to Aldis. "Now, tell me of your letter."

"I am not a well man," he began, "to be quite frank, I am dying of something that even the doctors cannot find a name for. It pinches and wastes at my body. I wish to find a cure."

"So you came to me for this cure?"

"I came for the ultimate cure! There are whispers, /Herr Baron/, that you have performed miracles of surgery. That you have even brought the dead back to life!"

Baron Frankenstein scoffed. "Silly rumors spread by the local peasants."

Aldis shook his head emphatically. "No! I spoke to a man named Hans, he said that you built a man in your laboratory and that you gave him life! He saw it!"

The baron took a sip of his tea. "What else did he tell you?"

"He said that you had perished in a terrible fire; but I didn't believe him. I knew that a man like you would always have a way out."

"It's a shame. Hans always had such faith in my abilities. Tell me, how is the girl? The one he took for his wife?"

"The deaf woman?" Aldis made a disgusted face. "She continues to be a burden to him, night and day."

Eglantine clutched at her tea cup. She felt compelled to speak. "Liar," she spat, "Elizabeth and Hans are very happy together and she has even learned to speak a few words. Not that you would have paid any attention to her—you couldn't bed her or convince her to give you any money!"

"Silence woman!"

Baron Frankenstein raised a hand. "Please, you'll spill tea on my carpet."

She set her tea on a nearby table.

"I'm sorry, /Herr Baron/. It is the sickness." Aldis passed a hand over his face. "Please, I have brought you a million francs worth of gold!" He grabbed Eglantine by the wrist and threw her at the baron's feet. "And I brought you a woman."

"What makes you think I want money? Or, for that matter, affection?" He looked at Eglantine as though /she/ were a tea stain on the carpet.

"Being dead cannot be easy," Aldis said, leaning forward in his seat. "The money would see that you could fully restore the chateau and your laboratory. And as for my dear, sweet, Eglantine," he chuckled, "women are good for so many things."

Eglantine sprung from her spot on a floor and rushed at Aldis. "Bastard!" she cried, grasping for his eyes. "You killed my father!"

The baron pulled her hands from around Aldis' throat. He pinned her arms behind her. "Do shut up. Mr. Jones and I can't talk business with you screeching like some second rate banshee." He returned to his seat and forced her to sit next to him. "What makes you think I would accept this shrew as payment? Am I really presumed to be that kind of man?"

"I don't think you understand. Miss Eglantine Dupré is the eldest daughter and only heir of Auguste Dupré, the Boston steel magnate. A million francs doesn't even scratch the surface of her fortune. You only need find a suitably disreputable priest of marry you and you would be rich beyond your wildest dreams!"

Eglantine glared at the baron, hoping her gaze would be suitably venomous to dissuade him from any kind of untoward ideas.

He released her hands. "I don't think the money is enough. She's suitably attractive, but too strong willed for my taste."

"I see, you like your women weak and passive." She rubbed her wrists. She could already feel the bruises forming.

Aldis spoke before the baron could rebut. "She also had eight years medical training at Boston University. If you don't want her for your wife you could have her for your lab assistant."

"Eight years?" Baron Frankenstein frowned at her.

"Haven't you heard, /Herr Baron/? Women can have minds and careers of their own now. I'm sure it wasn't so when you were born /in the 1600s/, but we like to keep up with the times. It /is/ almost 1900."

"I am well aware of the year, Miss Dupré," he said haughtily. "Mr. Jones, why should I build you a new body? This is what you have come to ask, is it not?"

Aldis nodded. "It is. And I have offered you all reasons except one."

"And that last reason is?"

Aldis pulled a colt revolver from his jacket pocket. "If you do not agree to build me a new body I will shoot you dead where you sit."

The baron adjusted his cravat. "It would appear that we have a deal."
