It’s wild when an account with a bigger following than I reblogs one of my posts with a comment because now I’m watching the replies/reblogs/tags on my “Childe can turn into water and fly” post like it’s some play unfolding, like a bunch of characters get into a scene and start discussing the validity of some legend.

Sailing the Divorseas

Hello everyone! I have been absent as of late because I am creating a game named Sailing the Divorseas! Its a game for Otome Jam 2022, where you create an otome game within two months!

Its a game about being recently divorced, and going to group therapy with other divorcees, where you have possibilities of new love! Here is the synopsis:

Recently divorced, you’ve lost yourself in a hurricane of heartache. After speaking with your therapist, it's about time for you to go after a fresh start. This leads to seeing new and old faces, all familiar heartbreak. Will your ship lose its way or will you steady the course?

I’m trying to strengthen an argument about how Childe’s demo theme (Letter From Ajax) maps out his character story and THE PIANO MOTIF IS STILL THERE EVEN BENEATH ALL THAT GUITAR+CRASH CYMBALS+DRUMS

🤔can we draw parallels between Fischl and Tartaglia? Long title, bow user, some sort of identity conflict (?) regarding name, doesn’t use birth name, wields Electro (to some extent at least), what else… has met an animal that’s represented by their Constellation? Changes attack form from default weapon as an ability (Childe’s blades/spear, Fischl’s possession of Oz’s form..?), something about fairytales being better than reality, Uhh associated with black and purple at least some point, “another world” be it metaphorical or literal

Version 2.1 and 4.2 key visuals have very similar compositions no?

ALSO the 4.2 JPN title 罪人の円舞曲 is read as Zainin no Warutsu and not Zainin no Enbukyoku? (According to pre-release livestream)

Both readings mean Waltz of Sinners but the first one is read as the English word waltz while the second one uses the kanji reading. (It’s for stylization purposes, kinda like 夜神月 is read as Yagami Raito (Light Yagami) instead of Yagami Tsuki.)

Of COURSE they’d do that… They’ve done that for 西風騎士団 being read as Sepyurosu Kishi-dan (Knights of Zephyros) instead of the kanji reading Seifuu Kishi-dan (Knights of the West Wind). In English this is known as the Knights of Favonius (or Ordo Favonius in the manhua)

(Zephyros is the god of the west wind in Greek mythology, Favonius is the Roman mythology counterpart, and the Chinese name just literally translates to Knights of the West Wind or West Wind Knights)

Possible Chinese Idioms in Tartaglia’s Normal Attack and Xingqiu’s Burst

By the way, Tartaglia’s Normal Attack “Cutting Torrent” is actually 断雨 (duànyǔ) in Chinese, which literally means something like “severing rain”, but it possibly refers to the idiom 断雨残云 (duàn yǔ cán yún). Literally it’s “severing rain, damaging clouds”, referring to the act of disrupting something that’s going on. Not to be confused with Xingqiu’s Burst “Raincutter” which was originally 裁雨留虹 (Cái Yǔ Liú Hóng), an “idiom” that HoYoverse made up, literally meaning something like “cutting the rain, leaving behind a rainbow”. It’s possibly inspired by the real Chinese idiom 裁云剪水 (cái yún jiǎn shuǐ) which refers to poetry that’s exquisite and original… or something, which would fit Xingqiu’s novelist position, Hydro element, and carrying out the wuxia code of chivalry in his own way, I think?

Diluc used to just have his hair down until Crepus’ death

But since he saw the sight of Crepus fighting off Ursa, and Crepus wears his hair in a ponytail…

Could that be why he took up wearing his hair in a ponytail too? And a high one. To continue living up to expectations put onto him, and to carry Crepus image, perhaps? (That’s kind of like Venti with Nameless Bard’s appearance, then…)

Sometimes I wish Zhongli at least wore a distinctively wuxia/xianxia*-style (default) outfit instead of what is basically a suit from waist up, even with Genshin’s typical outfit stylizations (lots of of ribbons/flowing clothes, metallic details, and visible layers). In terms of genre, Liyue’s Archon Quest is… basically a xianxia plot huh

If he’s all about Liyue traditions… I mean it’d be nice if Zhongli wears something closer to Jin Guangshan’s outfit (from the web series The Untamed) but brown with silver/bronze/gold accents. Doesn’t necessarily need the long loose sleeves as it’s not uncommon for wuxia outfits to have tighter sleeves fit for combat.

If it’s his outfit in the 2023 Lantern Rite… I mean it seems like it’s supposed to be a qipao with a caplet on top, but it’s so stylized the golden lines make it feel strangely… futuristic? (I’ve no context for Lantern Rite so I don’t know if it’s got a lore reason or anything)

*wuxia = Chinese martial arts drama genre. Loyalty, betrayal, family, politics, combat, CHIVALRY (e.g. helping the weak, self-governing), etc. xianxia = Chinese spiritual cultivation drama genre. Similar but maybe more mortals vs supernatural spirits/gods, and less mortal vs mortal. Costume-wise there’s not a very striking difference between the two (in my experience)
