I just noticed something at the end credits of Ghostbusters (1984) on my last GIF post of Egon and Janine. Allow me to elaborate.
As most of you GB enthusiasts may already know, Egon rarely smiled throughout the whole of the first film, albeit the occasional 'almost-smirks' as I like to call them (until the 1989 sequel, of course).
...
UNTIL, by the end of the movie, as Janine approaches Egon relieved that he came back alive, Dr. Spengler finally smiles as she embraces him. Before, he thought that he and the guys might not be coming back (reference to the coin scene between them offscreen *wink-wink*), but boy was he wrong, as you could plainly see 👇
He clearly is happy to reunite with Janine after the battle with Gozer/Stay Puft marshmallow man. The first time he smiled in the film and it was coming back alive from battle with an ancient evil Sumerian entity, embracing Janine 💗
HIIII for a uni exam i had to design the ghostbusters as if they had a cartoon now and i had so much fun doing it! i love the ghostbusters a lot, so besides doing the lineup i redrew some scenes with my designers and i had a blast i hope i can do mor en the future ^^
The two original Ghostbusters movies read like a DND campaign.
Like that fucking marshmallow guy fight. Venkmann constantly trying to seduce everything in sight. The unhinged energy. The interactions with authority figures. The vibe that they have some sort of inside joke going on with whatever higher power runs this universe.
so insane about this. janine's little smile after callie smiling about egon, screaming crying ripping my hair out god im not even super into janine x egon (i am but only for the first movie in the second movie egon and ray are definitely a thing) but like god. janine misses him so much. oh my god im gonna throw up
He just loves her as much as she loves him 💕💙 the little smile he gives her the second before he hugs her back and after. He def still has the lucky token she gave him before thr battle with Gozer
I get that a lot of you love Egon Spengler, I do too, but I see a lot of you going onto posts that aren’t about him and trying to MAKE THEM about him in the comments or reblogs or something when the post is specifically about Ray or Winston and it is GENUINELY getting old.
Ray already gets overlooked and so does Winston (part of me thinks that stems from fatphobia and racism but that’s a different conversation) and there are already PLENTY of spaces to talk about Egon with the other Egon girlies. Don’t get me wrong, I love Egon! I do! But when I wanna praise Ray or Winston or any other character the way they deserve that is not your chance to overtake the space and make it about Egon!!
Maybe this is a silly niche complaint for me to have but I’ve had SO many of my posts about Ray hijacked and everyone seems to give Egon all the credit for everything and dumb Ray down to “oh sweet autistic baby uwu!!” when he’s just as competent and brilliant as Egon was, same with Winston being basically totally forgotten. Don’t be that person!! Please!!! Janine gif for tax cause we love her too!
Four actual life lessons that I’ve gained from the Ghostbusters:
It’s never too late to start over: Ever feel like you’re ‘behind’ everyone else’s milestones? Or your life should be planned by a certain age? The Ghostbusters are grown adults who are still figuring things out! They also transformed an intimidating setback (losing their academic jobs) into an opportunity to pursue something better.
Stay intellectually curious and keep learning: The Ghostbusters are highly educated and have professional experience. Yet they don’t pretend to know everything—in fact, quite the opposite. They go to the library. They pour over reference materials. They look beyond obvious answers and learn from each other.
Take calculated risks: You can’t succeed if you never try! The Ghostbusters’ gadgets aren’t real, but the spirit behind designing them is. Even after you prepare as much as possible, you may have to send a creation into the world while feeling uncertain about it. The Ghostbusters didn’t know if the proton packs would stop Slimer, but they tried it. They didn’t know if crossing the proton streams would work on Gozer, but trying to save the world seemed better than doing nothing.
You need the right people around you: The Ghostbusters are buddies who find fame and success while having a blast together. Wouldn’t it be cool be your own boss? Spend your days fighting ghosts and eating Cheez-its with your besties in a sweet firehouse? (Those questions are rhetorical…) As valuable as friendship is, the Ghostbusters also needed to hire the right outsiders to complete the company. Bottom line, you can’t achieve your goals without the right team on your side.
