In Elasticity, the image of the horse and rider is fractured to capture and represent their dynamism, fuse them with the pylons, and bring the spectator into the center of the canvas.

Umberto Boccioni | "Composizione spiralica" (Spiral Composition), 1913
Umberto Boccioni (1882–1916) was the leading artist of Italian Futurism. During his short life, he produced some of the movement’s iconic paintings and sculptures, capturing the color and dynamism of modern life in a style he theorized and defended in manifestos, books, and articles.

Umberto Boccioni | "Self Portrait", 1905
In his sculptures, like his paintings, he wanted to express motion. In his “Founding and Futurist Manifesto” (1909), he declared:
“We affirm that the beauty of the world has been enriched by a new form of beauty: the beauty of speed. A racing car . . . is more beautiful than the Victory of Samothrace.”

Umberto Boccioni | "Forme uniche di continuità nello spazio", (Unique Forms of Continuity in Space)
Boccioni, like his fellow Futurists, was an ardent interventionist, campaigning for Italy’s entry into World War I on the side of the Allies. When Italy joined the war in 1915, he volunteered to fight. In August 1916, during cavalry exercises with his regiment, Boccioni fell from his horse. He died the next day at the age of thirty-three. Despite his premature death, he remains the best known artist of the Futurist movement.

New hydrogel can stretch to 15 times its original size
A team of molecular engineers at Tsinghua University, in China, has developed a new type of hydrogel that can stretch to 15 times its original size and then snap back to its original form. In their study, published in the journal Science, the group modified the process normally used to create hydrogels to produce a new one that is far more elastic. Hydrogels are known for their stretchiness—they can be pulled like taffy or a rubber band. But most do not snap back to their original form very well, making them stretchy but not elastic. Additionally, they can only be stretched in one direction. Currently, hydrogels are generally made by creating compounds with cross-linked polymers linked by water molecules. In this new effort, the team in China sought to improve the characteristics of a hydrogel by making changes to the fabrication method.

If you were Nine and could steal Nine quirks what would they be?
For the sake of this, I'm assuming I have copies of the Quirks and don't need to hunt them down. I'm also throwing in another Quirk to work as my original Quirk, similar to Nine's "Weather Manipulation". Even if this was a situation where I was trapped in his body or something, I'd drop that Quirk as fast as possible. And while I could go for overpowered Quirks like "Overclock" or "Overhaul", I'd rather go for the simple powers with high synergy that often define the arsenal of "All For One" users.
Tumblr media
Super Regeneration: I mean, what is any kind of combination of Quirks like this without "Super Regeneration"? While it doesn't have any amazing combination potential, it's good insurance that I'd be a fool to pass up as my main power.
Glamour: While this doesn't have the most synergy with other Quirks, I do believe that it is useful enough on its own to warrant a spot. Long-range audio and visual illusions are really useful for undermining people and controlling the battlefield.
Muscle Augmentation: An amazingly simple power that can cover a lot of the basic physical enhancements, so I don't need to waste space on them. Plus, with "Super Regeneration", it can do away with one of the biggest weaknesses of the Quirk.
Barrier: Like "Glamour", it doesn't offer the most robust amount of synergy, but it's still a good option to have. It's amazing for defense, and I wouldn't have to rely on other people in order to deal damage, nor would I need to be as stationary with it.
Black Whip: The sheer utility of this Quirk is immense, effectively acting as a form of telekinesis with some extra ribbons, which is simply enough to work with other choices like combining it with "Muscle Augmentation" to enhance the muscle fibers of it or working to help "Super Regeneration" stitch things back together.
Transforming Arms: Having such an extensive amount of control over your physical form opens up so many opportunities for form and combinations, both with the arms themselves and with other Quirks, like making super weapons with "Muscle Augmentation and reducing the risk of usage with "Super Regeneration".
Gyrate: This does offer some decent offense and defense, but it's more of a platform to combine with other powers, like massively amplify their speed and damage with "Muscle Augmentation" and use it as a reliable way of flight, or use it to increase the reach and pulling power of "Black Whip", or extend the spinning defense to "Barrier".
Clones: While I don't believe that the clones would have the other Quirks, they are still great in terms of scouting and information gathering given the hive mind. I'd like to see how it could combine with other Quirks, like using "Glamour" to make the clones look like other people or "Transforming Arms" to grant them new physical forms.
Elasticity: This grants me some amazing battlefield control and mobility options, but it'd better to have to combine with other Quirks, like giving elastic properties to things like "Barrier" to alter the shield's shape or "Black Whip" to grant it greater flexibility. Maybe even spreading effects through whatever the user makes elastic, like making things twist with "Gyrate".
Rifle: This is about as simple as it gets. It's a gun that is capable of dealing a lot of damage. Its beauty is in its simplicity though because I can change it so easily with the other Quirks. Bullets that work as hallucinogens, changing into other kinds of guns, bullets that bounce around on contact, and supercharged shots with the rifle. There's a lot of potential in it.

Fused Frenemies A
The fused frenemies have legs again! But not as many as they used to... ----  Continued from Fused Frenemies... Before Phoebe could explain her plan, the pair felt their fused flesh start to churn and twist inside. The epicenter of this activity seemed to be the merged and swirled point where their bodies met. It felt almost like indigestion, like their bodies were trying to reconfigure and regenerate, but the fusion prevented this process from completing. "Ughhhh," Phoebe groaned. "That might not be good." Sophie watched their merged midsection contort and begin to expand irregularly. "Wow, you think?" she shot back. The chaotic mess of malleable meat creaked and gurgled as if it was boiling, increasing in intensity as if it would erupt. And in some way, it did! From one side of their merger, two stalks of flesh sprouted out suddenly, shooting out over a meter in length before flopping to the ground, one from Sophie's side of their body, one from Phoebe's side. Before the two could question what just happened, they both felt their protuberance morph and solidify into something familiar. "Legs???" Sophie asked, baffled. Across their merger point, there was a pair of legs, a left leg for Sophie, and a right leg for Phoebe, forming a single pair of legs between them, hips fused at a central seam. "Oh, fascinating!" Phoebe said, wiggling her new leg in curiosity. She pulled her torso back to normal length. "Come on, let's stand up, Sophie!" Sophie did a double-take. "Wait, for real?" Phoebe was already trying to stand, heaving Sophie's half of their hips up with some effort, supporting the weight with one elongated arm. "Yeah! work with me!" Sophie complied, not sure how to respond, but retracting her torso as well, and putting her leg under her side to bear the weight. It felt weird to have the inside of her hips seemingly glued to someone else who pulled and twisted against her in unpredictable ways, and it made it difficult for her to balance. She growled slightly as she held herself up with her arms much like Phoebe was. Phoebe was having the same difficulties as Sophie, but was less bothered, instead taking a bizarre sense of pride in this joint effort. Phoebe tepidly retracted her arms as she started to find her balance. "Come on Sophie, you can do it!" Sophie didn't understand why Phoebe was enjoying this so much - this was ridiculous, the two of them stuck together like this, struggling to do something basic like standing up! As Sophie pulled her arms in, she lost her balance and her torso started to topple over. Phoebe caught her just in time, helping her straighten out and finally fully stand alongside Phoebe. "There! See, it's not so bad!" Sophie scowled. "Like hell it's not! This is so stupid. And it's all your fault anyway! If you hadn't been teasing me maybe we wouldn't have melted together in the first place!" Phoebe's face was placid yet mirthful. "Oh hush, you. At least we're stable now, right?" ---- NEXT - CHOOSE ONE: A. They start to "zip" together, until the only thing separated is their heads! B. They each get their own pair of legs back, but still have something holding them together... C. Their arrangement stabilizes, and until Holly has a solution, they try to make the most of it! ---- Thanks to NoahWave for doing this comm for me! You should check him out, because he does awesome stuff! : D Hope you enjoy! ~ Bonkie

Unveiling oxidation-induced super-elasticity in metallic glass nanotubes
Oxidation can degrade the properties and functionality of metals. However, a research team co-led by scientists from City University of Hong Kong (CityU) recently discovered that severely oxidized metallic glass nanotubes can attain an ultrahigh recoverable elastic strain, outperforming most conventional super-elastic metals. They also discovered the physical mechanisms underpinning this super-elasticity. Their discovery implies that oxidation in low-dimension metallic glass can result in unique properties for applications in sensors, medical devices and other nanodevices. The findings were published in Nature Materials under the title "Oxidation-induced superelasticity in metallic glass nanotubes." In recent years, the functional and mechanical properties of low-dimensional metals, including nanoparticles, nanotubes and nanosheets, have garnered attention for their potential applications in small-scale devices, such as sensors, nano-robots and metamaterials. However, most metals are electrochemically active and susceptible to oxidation in ambient environments, which often degrades their properties and functionalities.

Any other creative uses for elasticity? Maybe expansions?
Tumblr media
-This would actually be immensely useful for a rescue work. Gentle could affectively turn all the super dangerous rubble into a bounce castle or make rubbery barriers around inquired civilians, making it much safer to move and handle those kinds of situations.
-Furthermore, he would be really good in supportive role. He could make small areas allies are about to hit into safe landing zones or he could affectively make bounce pads wherever he wants, amplifying their allies maneuverability and potential attack power.
-Gentle could begin to learn how to better shape his forcefields, he could learn how to make them in more defined shapes like cubes. This would expand the kind of options he'd have in capturing people, something he already excelled out given the prison break out.
-One idea I've always had for Gentle is him using the Quirk on reaction, applying the Quirk the second something made contact. So if someone tried to stab Gentle, it would affectively become a prop knife, saving himself and robbing his opponent of their weapon.
-Speaking of weapons, they'd be good with this as well. While a melee would be fun, bending it in bizarre ways to get attacks off ranged would actually be a lot more useful. He could load up a rubber projectile and making it bounce all over the place before landing, making for a painful, if non-lethal way to deal with a foe.
-The terrain manipulation aspect of his power seems underutilized. Since Gentle seems to have a pretty firm understanding of Quirk functions, it'd be neat to see him more actively manipulate the environment, like waving the ground underneath someone like a giant rug or pulling back a door to bypass a lock it had on it.
-It's been stated that Gentle can't use his Quirk on people, but that isn't to say anything about clothes. He could make his own clothing elastic, giving himself greater defense and mobility without the needed set up. Which is nothing to say of other people's clothing, effectively making it impossible to move properly without flying out of control.
-Combining all of those together, he could carry around a lot of equipment to be even more effective. Small plates on his person to use as shields without messing with his clothes, small items he could launch out of the rubber air, pieces of cloth to uses like rubber bands, grapples to grab onto and pull the terrain around, and other things like that.
