My eyes fluttered open as the sound of familiar birds sang their morning calls in the garden. I woke the same way every day. The same minute, of the same day, of the same year. September 3rd 1943. As always I closed my eyes again, attempting to fall back into a deep slumber.

I shivered as a breeze came through the window and snuggled deeper into the duvet and the strong arms that encompassed me. Enoch must have forgotten to close the window the night before after we'd spent the evening on the balcony. I felt my face heat up at the memory. Despite having been together for the past twenty years in the loop, the thought of the broody boy set my cheeks aflame and my stomach to flutter in nervous excitement.

As if he knew I was thinking about him, I felt Enoch shift beside me. He mumbled something illegible and pulled my body closer to him. I let out a breathless laugh and let myself be pressed against his chest. At last, I let my eyes open fully as I listened to his steady heartbeat in his chest. My fingers drew out intricate patterns with a featherlight touch on his chest, being as careful as I could not to wake him. Although, knowing Enoch he was probably already awake and just pretending. He did that a lot, especially in quiet loop mornings like this, just feigning sleep to make the moment last longer.

Despite being virtually adults, and both the oldest wards under her care, Miss Peregrine still disapproved of us sharing a bed. So, moments like this were rare and short-lived.

Enoch stroked a hand down my back softly. His hands were calloused from all the manual work he did constructing his homunculi, but I felt his roughened caress comforting. As his hand made its way down my bare spine I was reminded suddenly that I was naked, which meant he certainly was too. “G’Morning, darling.” He said in a husky voice that was rough from sleep. I felt a shiver go through me at the deep rumble of it.

I tilted my head back and placed a soft, lingering kiss on his jaw in reply. I saw his Adam's apple bob as he swallowed when my lips carried on a trail downwards along the column of his neck. “Morning handsome,” I murmured against his hot skin.

Enoch groaned and pulled me on top of him so fast it made my head spin. I giggled quietly, aware that we couldn't be too loud. The walls in this house were ridiculously thin. I ran my hands down his defined chest teasingly as he gripped my hips tightly.

“How long have we got?” He asked me slightly breathless when my hands drifted lower, tracing the deep v-line on his hips.

I grinned devilishly, “Long enough.” And with that, Enoch captured my lips in a searing kiss full of lust and love.

Loop mornings were repetitive-literally, and there was no way to deny that. But it didn't mean they couldn't be fun. And as long as I had Enoch, I could spend every morning like this. Full of searing kisses, soft caresses and gasped breaths. Forever.

Enoch O'Connor x Fem!Reader

Warnings: A tiny bit of angst, jealousy

Request: Could you do an Enoch O'Connor x Reader angst/fluff (at the end)? Possibly around Jake joining the loop and he gets jealous because he & reader are together. Kind of like the "I hate everybody but you" trope :') I love your work!!

A/N: Sorry this is so late!! I hope you like it :)

Enoch isn’t used to competition.

He’s been dating you for years - ten to be exact - and the only guys your age who have ever been in the loop were Victor, who was far too scared to make a move on anything that belonged to Enoch, and Abe, who was too smitten with Emma to even register the fact that other girls existed.

So when Miss Peregrine introduces you to Jake, Enoch is totally unprepared for the wave of jealousy that washes over him when you give Abe’s grandson a smile. Before Enoch can realize what he’s doing, he’s storming over to you with a scowl on his face. “Having fun?” he asks tightly.

You smile at him, seemingly oblivious, and lean against his chest. “Hey, Enoch! I was just telling Jake - “

“Enough about Jake,” Enoch cuts you off abruptly.

Your smile disappears, replaced by confusion. “What?”

“We’re going.” Enoch grabs your hand, shooting a nasty look in Jake’s direction.

“Um, see you later, Jake!” you call, looking behind you apologetically.

Enoch pulls you into his room and shuts the door behind you. “Why are you talking to him like that?” he demands.

Your confusion grows. “Talking to him like what? Enoch, what are you talking about?”

“All- All nice and friendly! And smiling at him, smiling at him the way you’re supposed to smile at me.” His voice cracks on the last word.

“Oh, Enoch…” You pull him into your arms. “You’re jealous, aren’t you?”

Enoch doesn’t respond.

“There is nothing going on between Jake and me. We’re just friends, okay, I love you. There’s no reason for you to be jealous.”

“Promise?” he says quietly, dark brown eyes meeting yours.

You smile and peck him on the lips. “I promise.”

Prompt From Drabble Challenge: 94 - I had a bad dream again

Masterlist

You scrub at your eyes harshly with the sleeve of your pajama shirt as you make your way downstairs. Your legs are shaking slightly, making it a bit more difficult to actually get down the stairs.

At the moment, you don’t know if your plan is to grab a cup of water, or to leave the home and wander for a while. Your mind settles on both as you finally trudge into the kitchen to grab your glass of water.

You’re reaching up when your mind goes blank, jumping forward a few moments. You see Enoch in the doorway of the kitchen, as he calls out to you, you jump and drop your favorite glass, cutting your feet. As you’re pulled back into the present you hold your hand back so you don’t end up grabbing the glass and dropping it.

Right on time, you hear him, “You’re up late, Y/N.” Now you grab your glass before turning around to Enoch, “You would have scared me.” You say before turning back around to get your water. It’s always a bit hard to know how to behave around Enoch, but this is one thing that you’re always able to discuss with him freely. The nightmares.

“Can’t be considered too late. You’re up too.” You say before taking a lingering sip of the lukewarm, and not as refreshing as you hoped, water. For a moment, the two of you just stand there in silence, but you gesture towards the door, looking at him, “Do you wanna go outside with me? I’m just gonna go around the home a few times.”

Enoch responds by following your retreating form. The two of you make it outside and start on a familiar path in the dark of the night. Enoch doesn’t push you to speak, he knows you’ll start when you need to, so instead, he makes his way beside you and enjoys to chilly breeze giving both of you goosebumps.

“I had a bad dream again.” You say once you’re halfway around. Simultaneously, the two of you extend your arms, him taking your glass to take a sip like friends in the 20’s exchanged their cigarettes. After he takes a sip of the water, Enoch looks at you, “Do you want to talk about it?” He says after grimacing from the uncomfortable warmth of the water.

Though you shake your head, you take a deep breath and a sip of the water. “We we’re all in the home. So much was going on, we had a guest and some of the other children were excited beyond belief and a little harder to control than usual. We lost track of time.” You almost hesitate to wallow in the awful feeling that came along with the awful dream, but instead, you barrel on with the details.

“I was trying to find Millard - who in an attempt to entertain Jake, had taken off his clothes and hidden - when I saw it. I saw the bomb as it was falling. I saw it hit the home, and I did nothing about. I just shook it off and kept calling for Millard.” Enoch takes the glass from you and takes a gulp, another cool breeze blows, chilling your bodies. The shiver that runs down your spine is your cue to keep speaking.

“I went outside. I told myself it was to look for Millard, the troublemaker, but I knew, deep down, that it was to save myself. I got out there and got a safe distance from the home…” With no more water left to drink, Enoch looks at you understandingly, “And that’s when the bomb fell.” Your head drops in shame, despite the events being nothing but your subconscious torturing you. “And that’s when the bomb fell and I became the only survivor.”

You were about to walk around a third time, but Enoch’s stopping pulls you to a pause yourself. “It was just a dream, Y/N. Not only are we safely trapped in this infuriating loop, but even if you don’t know yourself, I do. You’d never leave us in there, not even if your life depended on it.”

It takes everything in you to keep your eyes dry. Enoch’s words are so heartfelt that you just have to throw your arms around him and squeeze tightly. The boy sighs, patting your back twice before beginning to wriggle in your grasp, “Alright. That’s enough of that. Let’s get you inside. Some of us need to sleep through the night.”

When you get to your room, you feel that uneasy feeling starting to settle in your stomach again. “Wait, Enoch.” You call when he goes to leave you and rest in his own room. He sighs dramatically, not yet looking back at you. He doesn’t say anything, so you take this as a cue to continue talking, “Can you - do you think that you can stay? Just until I fall asleep. It won’t take long, I promise.” You plead, hoping to have someone help you fall back into your slumber.

“If you don’t fall asleep quickly, I’m gone. No ifs, ands, or buts.” He says dejectedly, sitting on the edge of your bed.

When you wake, you don’t even remember falling asleep. You smile because though you don’t remember falling asleep, you do remember not having any nightmares with Enoch there. Your eyes scan your room for the pouty peculiar, but instead, they land on a homunculus. The little guy is perched on the end of your bed where Enoch was.

“Hello.” You say to the small human-esque figure. The little man gives you a strong salute before hopping off of your bed and making his way out of your room. You smile at the thought of Enoch sending one of his homunculi to watch you when he couldn’t. With that in mind, you decide that today is the day Enoch O'Connor becomes more than a nightmare confidant.

Enoch only left the children's home for two reasons: to play Raid the Village or to buy books about war. He wasn't particularly interested in socializing; he spent most of his time huddled alone in his room, making horrific living dolls out of random bits and bobs and watching them fight to the death. Oh, and reading books about war. He really liked books about war.

Unfortunately, said books on war do not last forever, and eventually Enoch got to the point where he'd read every single one of them three times each. He was ready for something new.

So he took some money from Miss Peregrine and headed out into town, beelining straight for the small, worn bookshop that was already falling apart in 1943 when the loop was made. He went straight for the war section, grabbed a couple books, and stopped right in his tracks.

You were there, in the corner, huddled over a book he couldn't see the title of. Now, this was strange for multiple reasons: one, the clothes you were wearing were clearly not from 1943, and two, he had never, not once in his life in Cairnholm, seen you on the island. That shouldn't be possible.

Enoch headed straight towards you, scowling in confusion. "What are you doing here?" he demanded.

You started, looking up with raised eyebrow. "Excuse me?"

"Are you daft?" he sneered. "What are you doing here?"

You laughed, which irritated him even more, and said, "Why, aren't you a pretentious asshole?"

Your accent was American, which confused him even more, but he didn't let the emotion show. "I've never seen you before. I've seen everyone in this town and I've never seen you. What are you doing here?"

"Ever heard of leapfrogging, darling?" The pet name made his blood boil.

Yes, he had heard of leapfrogging. Of course he'd heard of leapfrogging - jumping from one loop to another. The real question was, how had you heard of leapfrogging?

Then it dawned on him. "You're peculiar, aren't you?"

"Wow, look at the brain on this one!" you said in mock astonishment, looking back down at your book. "Some of us like to travel."

"But that's illegal," Enoch said dumbly.

"Ah, you're one of the ymbryne worshippers."

"I don't worship anyone," he snapped, hating you more by the second.

"Leap with me, then," you challenged.

"Maybe I will," he replied, puffing out his chest.

You smirked. "Follow me, then."

Maybe he didn't hate you.
