in an older ask (before the bracelet comic) you broke down, basically, the odds of donnie recognizing his family to different degrees on any given day... i'm curious, what would the odds be now, now that he has the bracelet?
Hell yeah let's do more Swanatello Math~
Let's say his family visits him eight times-- this time with the bracelet.
-> Maybe one time out of eight, usually less, Donnie will not be able to recognize them and will treat them as intruders, driving them off. There are occasions when he disregards the message of the bracelet or forgets it too quickly to be helpful.
-> Two times out of eight, Donnie will be able to recognize them enough to not view them as threats, but will not be able to organically recall any further details about them. He is confused and frustrated. He recognizes something is wrong, and can comprehend the research materials he's reading, but no actual memories are being pinged in his brain, leaving him in a very frightening, bizarre, uncanny-valley sort of space. He has to repeatedly reference notes and journals to try to puzzle the identities of his family together, which is upsetting and embarrassing. Days like these focus on providing comfort and support to Donnie, but the context that his research board and bracelet provide does make this easier to manage now.
-> One time out of the eight, Donnie will be able to recognize his family but struggles to comprehend his current situation or recall details surrounding it, though he recognizes something is wrong. He knows that Raph is here, and he remembers Raph fully, but has a difficult time processing why they're here at the lake instead of being at home; it's just not sinking in for him. Things in his brain are not matching up, and he is confused and frustrated. His family will have to re-explain to him what's going on, typically multiple times. Days like these focus on providing comfort and support to Donnie, but the jumpstart that the research and bracelet provide often makes this process much easier.
-> One time out of eight, Donnie will be able to recognize his family enough to not view them as threats, but will not always be able to recall further details about them. He's not able to fully process that anything is wrong unless it's explained to him, (usually more than once,) but even then it seems to overall elude him and not fully sink in. He will happily spend the day showing his lake off to his family, dancing with them, etc. His bracelet and research board help, but on days like these he often seems unable to fully retain this information throughout the day. These days are usually pretty frustrating for his family, but are overall lower-stress for Donnie, at least. False memories are common on these days.
-> Three times out of eight, Donnie is able to both recognize his family and recall details about their current situation. He remembers the family members who are currently with them, and sometimes even those who are absent, and understands that he is currently being affected by magick that manipulates his memory and patterns of thinking.
Overall, the bracelet has improved the situation. The family has to take care to try to be present as much as possible, however, as receiving this information from the bracelet and research board can sometimes be very scary or disorientating, and they've found that having someone around either during this process or immediately after is very important. Typically, if Donnie wakes up, receives the message from his bracelet, inspects the research board, and waits for the promised family to arrive... and then they don't, he'll panic and quickly lose trust in the information. He may react negatively to any family members once they do show up. Swanatello overall tends to do poorly when left alone, they've discovered.

upset about arnheid vinlandsaga again today so i reread some of her scenes and i'm still marveling at how well her storyline was executed. i have literally no complaints about how the author handles her situation; even her death doesn't feel like she was done wrong by the narrative (though i would be more invested if she was still alive). she has real interiority and complex motivations and she's written with such delicasy and sympathy that you can tell that the author understands her. basically every other character in this arc can be judged by how they treat arnheid - thorfinn and einar's ride-or-die solidarity for a fellow slave who has treated them both with kindness, snake clearly seeing her as a person despite his respect for the status quo and anger over the deaths of his men, the petty cruelty of ketil's wife (which could never escalate to the level of what ketil is capable of), ketil treating her relatively well as long as she dedicates herself entirely to his pleasure and then beating her to death in a rage when she tries to escape with another man
lots of characters judge her harshly for her actions (to ketil's wife she's ungrateful, to snake's men she's spoiled and selfish, to ketil she's a traitor) but the protagonists never do. thorfinn respects her resilience and pragmatism in the face of suffering, understands on some level the violence she's endured. einar values her friendship, he asks her what she wants and does everything he can to help her with whatever she chooses to do. they refuse to leave her behind in a war zone when she might be dying. they steal her from a man who will surely hurt her again if she lives. she's an ordinary woman, suffering a very brutal but mundane kind of violence, and for a little while she's the most important character in this story.

How to level Shadowy really quickly: Grind Oneiromantic Revelations in the Sunken Embassy (Moloch Street)/Flint or Dagger (University). Click them to convert them to Vitreous Almanacs, five per Revelation
You can exchange 4 of those for 270 Shadowy CP in the Dome of Scales in Parabola, as long as the Dome is under Fingerking control (it should be by default.)
How to level Dangerous really quickly: Equip a Weasel of Woe. Go to the Fighting Rings in Watchmaker's Hill. Any of them, but the one that costs rostygold is cheaper. Every time you fail a check and eat shit you're going to lose rostygold and gain 15-20 CP Dangerous.
How to level Watchful really quickly: you can't lol
gonna be real. my strategy for watchful is to spam doing lab experiments and pray

I think what bothers me about ppl being surprised at removing the misogyny or making aang be responsible from the start instead of running away is that this is literally fandom trends representing themselves. Like when characters have to grow y’all run to downplay what they have to grow from! STICK WITH ME FANDOM SHIFT this is what bothers me so much about fanon Harley Quinn. Like if Harley never enjoyed or felt free or whatever with joker why are you calling her post relationship arc a redemption? Even back to heroics if bruce was never an asshole or close minded or ham fisted when it came to his kids where do you think the other identities started? What do you think their relationship is growing from? Like it’s so boring lmao
#And then you’ll create negativity that never existed as long as it keeps everything normal#no bruce was never suspicious of his precious baby Jason 🥺#dick hated him with a passion tho!#like ok. get off Twitter.#get off ao3.#pls and thank you#And the Harley one makes me sick bc I adore Harleys redemption especially as a character MADE for joker breaking out and becoming her own#but then y’all are like ‘well she was never BAD! she was manipulated and brainwashed the whole time! and never contributed to anything#significant!’#what is the redemption y’all are speaking of?#THIS IS ZUKOS FAULT#sorry I’m not getting into my opinion on his entire redemption#but like. he was the prime example of perfect victim#and that’s not BAD or whatever I think the progression of his arc was great#I just think y’all overstate ‘redemption’#but not even Zuko Iroh! the way y’all collectively forgot or ignored that he SUCKED!#sorry I swear I ranted to my brother about this for an hour this morning actually#but I forgot every name I pulled#but in conclusion this redemption that’s not rlly redemption cause my fave was never bad thing is soooo#IK i shit on tim but Jason Stans step forward please#I was gonna say Damian but the reason I’m not is bc god forbid y’all actually let him redeem himself#like he feels so much guilt and remorse and y’all are like ‘the haughty princeling wanted poor wittle Drake DEAD at every turn’#also he was ten#and yknow what I think bothers a lot of ppl#that even through the remorse he acknowledges that he was a child and doesn’t allow for the adults in his life to just skate by while he#wallows. which is what I’m sure so many of y’all would prefer to see as per ao3#but no Damian does actually demand accountability from everyone involved including but not limited to himself!#but also I do adore his redemption arc bc yeah he did do that shit and it sucked#however I will never discuss it with fandom ppl who can barely name two of his friends that aren’t Jon. maybe they’ll know Colin and maya i#if they’re really about it…

re news literacy on social media: i find that the best way to follow fast-moving news these days is to follow beat reporters from multiple outlets (especially people who are either local to or reporting from wherever the news is happening). they may not get everything right every time because people are inherently imperfect, but that's why you can't rely just on one source. and good reporters admit when they've been wrong. reporters will also RT non-journalist sources that they trust, and then you can add them to your list too. i left the journalism industry bc i didnt like keeping my opinions to myself lol. but even when i was working in local news, this is how i'd keep up with things outside my own beat.
i would never discount eye witness accounts of people affected by violence and tragedy, but this is a way you can corroborate claims you see on people's personal accounts -- because unfortunately, people like to troll or push agendas when emotions are high. at least reporters can't delete their accounts and disappear after they spread disinformation; they have to deal with the consequences. and yeah, sometimes their org protects them from more concrete consequences, but you'll still see people cooking them in the replies, and that'll help you to make your call. because at the end of the day, there's never going to be one place you can go to fully understand something -- you need to make a good faith effort to seek out information and make the best call you can. and if you make a call and form an opinion and everyone tells you you're wrong? don't be an asshole about it. own it and try again. both unconscious biases and fucking up are part of allyship and the only way to move on is to accept the consequences and do better.
personally, i'll never reblog or retweet something if i don't feel confident in it. there's amplifying voices, and then there's spreading disinformation. i am not going to break news that will help the people of Palestine on my fandom social media account by reposting something that i can't tell is real or not. but i sure as hell could clog up the feed and warp people's perceptions of real events by reposting something fake and potentially harmful.

WIP last line tag Game
Thanks to @souein and @limonium-anemos for the tag!
Rules: share 7 (or more) lines of a WIP you've been working on
Not in order, but a few lines of something I'm brewing up. Not sure if I'll actually publish it.
Context: 20-year-old Harry Potter, while trying to cast a remembrance spell, is accidentally sent to a different timeline on June 24th, 1965, where he encounters a 39-year-old Dark Lord who’s in the beginnings of taking his foothold in Britain.
This is part of their first encounter when he wakes up.
_____
As he withdrew his hand, the man was staring up at him. Emerald green eyes shone brighter than any gemstone. Almond-shaped, blameless as could be. But there was a certain sharpness to them, an unyielding that would not be conquered.
Voldemort wanted to break him.
The siren’s call drew him closer. Black and white eyelashes only enhanced the intensity of them. They were begging him to come near. Close enough to feel the fire within until every scrap of flesh and bone was burnt to ash.
___
Something within him tingled. This stranger ignited something within him. He wanted to put his hand around that tender throat, to choke him until he was gasping for air. To smother him while he pleaded for release. Snuff out the unyielding. He wanted to destroy him.
And then he wanted to build him back up. Piece together the little pieces of a broken person into his perfected image. Someone who was powerful, smart, but yielding to him. Only him.
_____
If you haven't guessed, Voldemort's POV will be wrought with possessive and oddly sexual thoughts about Harry.
Not comfortable tagging anyone yet so no tagged people.

Tomorrow I embark on a most boring journey that will culminate in the first in-person holiday with family since pre-plague times.
I’ll likely step on eggshells for a good portion of my visit, but I’m medicated this time around, so I hope that will make a difference for me.
*deep breath* Fingers crossed.

heyla! not trying to rant persay, but I've been really enjoying your take on political matters, they make a lot of sense to me (without putting you on a pedestal or anything like that) I got engaged politically in the 2016 election because of Sanders running, worked with my local Democratic Party structure for about three years and had a great time honestly. Have not-quite-but-almost soured on Sanders since then though, and your posts over the last couple of months since I started following have articulated some of that souring really well. I think I might be over him entirely though, got one of those mass emails from him this morning talking about why he didn't vote on the debt ceiling bill (which I wasn't aware he hadn't until then) but that email is just chock full of "I can't in good conscience" over and over again, and I just. I don't have the bandwidth to dig into the numbers, but the amount of pressure relieved from the system by simple virtue of having this problem kicked down the road PAST the next election ???? almost incalcuable not having the American economy lashed by the failure to pass it will probably do more good for those in the lowest sections of the economic ladder by virtue of... not having the American economy collapse, in comparison to the (relatively?) minor obstacles added in the form of higher age requirements for welfare-work programs and I wonder, as I type this out, how it would have gone if he'd somehow been required to be the tie-breaker vote for whether or not the deal would pass. if it isn't all bluster or if he'd really sink the ship over "in good conscience" ideological quibbles. allowing the perfect to be the enemy of good. beating dead choirs with horses and all that I'm sure but I guess the tl;dr is that I am appreciative of the time you take to expand on these issues despite the fact it draws creatures out of the woodworks.
Lmao. Oh Bernie. The most consistent and reliable disappointment when it comes to putting his money where his mouth is for what, three decades? Four?
