False "beefsteak" morels. We found some massive ones in wet disturbed areas. Still no slime molds though.

Halloween Mushroom House Painting- A charming little jack o' lantern mushroom house with a delicate pathway leading up to it. Lovely misty marsh off to one side, and a certainly not up to something jack o' lantern on the other.
Every mushroom painted is poisonous. We have the jack o' lantern mushroom, of course, as well as the eastern destroying angel, false morel, death cap, fly agaric, ivory funnel...The central mushrooms are obviously based only in fantasy.
The rune stones bear markings of protection.
There are many different textures and effects in this painting, the photos really don't do it justice. The mushrooms shimmer in the light, well offset by the deep dark woods behind them. Some surfaces are slightly 3D.

I know I said I wouldn’t pick them, but a friend saw my photo and told me he’d gladly receive them. : P
These mushrooms are very popular culinary mushrooms in northern countries.
Once I started looking, there were a lot of them, some really really big.
So, how do you prepare them to make them safe?
1.Brush all sand and soil off, preferably as soon as you pick them, cut the bigger ones to make sure you get the inside clean too and can remove any snails hiding inside.
2.Bring 3 parts water to 1 part mushrooms to a boil, add mushrooms and wait for water to reach boil again. Let boil for 5 minutes. Make sure you have good ventilation or do this outside! Gyromitrin evaporates and can cause symptoms when inhaled!
3.Pour into a sieve and run cold water over mushrooms. Discard boiled water, DO NOT USE FOR COOKING. Repeat steps 2 and 3 at least once more, I prefer to boil them three times total, using fresh water for each boil. Again, DO NOT USE THE WATER YOU USED FOR BOILING THE MUSHROOMS FOR COOKING. Now your mushrooms are ready to use is soups or sauces, or you can let the majority of water drain and then freeze them for later use!
The mushrooms will retain some gyromitrin, so it’s not advisable to not eat several meals of false morels in a row, because the toxin accumulates in the body.
Do not eat these mushrooms raw! If you’re not sure what mushroom you have, play it safe and don’t eat it!

I’m in the midst of ~Berry Season~ and have been struck with the realisation that my experiences are probably not universal
bonus points for saying where you’re from and what you like to forage in the tags

Friendly reminder that improperly cooked (or raw) morels can make you ill and even kill you. Also morels + alcohol can be worse. Yes, this even applies to true morels. Be safe with your mushrooms.

There’s a joke that if you find one of these next to a pile of paper in a forest you shouldn’t take it because no amount of parboiling will free it of its unpleasant taste.
It’s a false morel of some sort, probably a gyromitra esculenta. It’s deadly poisonous if not treated correctly, which is why my mushroom hunting will not start quite yet.

I love to watch them grow throughout the spring.
It was a very nice and warm day today. Went to get groceries, walked home through the woods, saw cool bugs, animals, plants and fungi. :)
