Hi. Just found your blog--greatly enjoy your writing! Now, a question: Are there any popular female pulp heroes? What were they like? Thx in advance.
Thanks! Well, popular is a strong word, most people start with asking "were there any female pulp heroes? like, at all?", the answer to which is, Yes!...Nowhere as much as there were male ones, and not in the traditionally accessed avenues for "pulp heroes", but yes, there were, I wrote a bit about them here. Not counting the female sidekicks of male pulp heroes because that's cheating, the most popular female pulp heroes are the ones that exist by proximity to that American pulp hero “scene”, which I must stress again, doesn’t really have that much to do with what pulp fiction was actually like during it’s heyday, but rather that amorphous concept of what people imagine a pulp hero to be like.
In that regard, a popular female pulp hero would have to be a character that managed to break through in some form and inhabit that pop culture archetypal space in some form, or at least linger around in some noteworthy fashion. To an extent, this is something that was achieved more by female villains, in particular H.Rider Haggard’s Ayesha as well as other characters like Shamblau, Black Margot / Princess Margaret of the Black Flame, and Irma Vep who made for memorable, impactful villains of popularity and status approaching that of the male heroes.
With that in mind, upfront I’d argue that there’s at least six unambiguously popular female pulp heroines, and those would be:
Tumblr media
The Domino Lady, a masked Gentleman Thief who was a rare example of a female masked vigilante who was actually published in 1930s American pulp fiction. The Domino Lady is, predictably, the least popular of these, but she’s historically significant and fairly popular in her own right and usually featured in stories or images that place all the masked avengers together.
Pat Savage (illustration by Dan Schkade), Science Adventurer Doc Savage’s rowdy tomboy cousin, and Dejah Thoris, the famous princess of Mars from the John Carter saga (key progenitor of the Planetary Romance subgenre), who are kind of on the sidekick side of things, but there's been enough solo outings for them, and the two of them being fairly significant and influential characters in their own right, that I’m obviously not gonna leave them out.
Red Sonja (illustration by Donato GIancola), famed badass of Sword-and-Sorcery. She’s maybe the most famous by far pulp heroine of them all, the only one of these for sure that you could reasonably expect most people to at least know by name or imagery. And she is a 1970s Marvel Comics character who borrows her name from an unrelated character in a non-Conan Robert E. Howard story and her characterization from C.L. Moore’s Jirel of Joiry (1934). Another character we can add to the ever-growing pile of “characters who define the term pulp hero despite never actually appearing in pulp fiction” next to The Spirit, Buck Rogers, The Phantom, The Green Hornet, etc.
Sheena, Queen of the Jungle: Here also standing for the general popularity of Jungle Girls in general who usually take after her in some ways or inspired her in the first place they all just kinda blend together at some point
Barbarella: (no idea what archetype taxonomy I could use for her). You all know or have heard of her at some point and she gets grouped with these characters so often I couldn’t really omit her either. I’ve never seen the movie but I know it is an Italian production based on an erotic French comic that shoots for an American comic book style, and that strangeness is part of what made it fairly memorable. I’ve read a couple of Tales of the Shadowmen collections that feature stories with her as well.
Having named these, I’m also going to name six other pulp heroines who do not follow that mold so strongly and don’t overlap with these, and who were popular and significant in different ways:
Tumblr media
Hunterwali: Hunterwali is one of the most significant action heroines in film history, as she was the premier starring role for Fearless Nadia, the most iconic action hero of 1930s Indian cinema and the archetypal action actress for Indian films, really one of the earliest and most significant action movie actresses period. Inspired by the Douglas Fairbanks Robin Hood serials, Hunterwali (1935) was a record-breaking blockbuster, with the character said to be “the most popular character of its time” and listed as "Bollywood's best loved character" in 100 years of Indian cinema by CNN-IBN”.
The character is a swashbuckling princess who dons the guise of Hunterwali, "protector of the poor and punisher of evildoers", to become a swashbuckling Masked Avenger bent on rescuing her father and beat up the evil prime minister villain. She runs around on horseback performing stunts like jumping over moving carriages, jumping a horse from a bridge onto the top of a moving train, and defeating 20 soldiers in one sweep with her whip (Fearless Nadia did her own stunts, mind you).
Brigitte “Baby” Montfort: Brigitte Montfort was a highly popular Secret Agent pulp fiction character in Brazil, probably the most straightforward “pulp hero” we have as the star of cheaply printed pocket edition books that arose in the 60s as an alternative to the paperbacks. Brigitte is the daughter of a 1940s feuilleton character (yes, the feuilletons were published here as well) named Giselle Montfort, a Mata Hari-esque spy who bedded Nazis for intel and was eventually killed via firing squad. Brigitte was a globetrotting reporter who secretly operated as a cunning, cutthroat CIA agent, a bikini-clad James Bond. The stories went so in-depth that it was a common rumor at the time that they were written by a CIA agent employed by the editors, and Brigitte lasted about 30 years with circa 500 novels to her name, making her one of the most long-lived pulp characters.
Ethel King: Ethel King was a rare, prototypical Great Detective who debuted in German dime novels and was subsequently published all over Europe for the following two decades. Driven to fight crime by the loss of her father and fiance, she was referred to as “the female Sherlock Holmes” as well as “the female Nick Carter” for French and Italian publishing, and she takes after the two of them in a way.
Like Holmes, she employs brilliant reasoning and goes around with a wisecracking assistant (in this case her governess), and like Carter, she’s also assisted by a younger sidekick (an orphaned cousin she raised on her own), she gets into gunfights and has a tough attitude, and she deals with a massive Rogues Gallery of horrid villains with wild names and even wilder characters (including three evil doppelgangers). She would go on to become a formative influence not just on future female detectives, but also the German hefteromanes that spun out of the dime novels.
Tumblr media
Nila Rand: Perfume, pistols and mystery in one package, she was created by Hedwig Langer under a pseudonym, one of the only two characters in this list created by a woman. Nila Rand was a thrill-seeking adventurer Femme Fatale featured in Scarlet Adventuress who dabbled in arms dealing, smuggling of stolen goods and gunfighting.
"She did not know which intrigued her the more, the alluring promise of exotic love, or the threat of terrible and violent death. The last was as necessary to her as the first. Nila Rand had played too long for high stakes and it needed the element of danger to make the game a thrilling one." - The Shanghai Stakes (1935)
Nila is a key example of what separates the femme fatale in the pulps from the films (far more frequently protagonists, rarely the sidekicks or girlfriends but instead solo operatives or leaders of their own gangs, rarely deliver on actual sex and instead manipulate men's desires to their advantage), but far more important than that is the fact that she was openly acknowledged to be bisexual, which goes without saying was extremely rare in any form to find in the pulps in any form.
Even in these spicy/erotic pulp magazines that were all about sneaking stuff past the radar (and thus a place where, for better or worse, writers could play around with topics other magazines would shy away from and would be unthinkable outside of pulp magazines). Finding a queer pulp hero from any period prior to the 1970s, let alone a protagonist and not an outright villain, is bordering on impossible, but it exists and here she is.
Lu Siniang: A lot of Wuxia/Nuxia storytelling is born from similar undercurrents of working class escapism and anger and desire for justice that led to many of pulp fiction’s most prominent heroes, and Lu Siniang is a particularly powerful embodiment of that. She was spun out of real life circumstances involving the execution of Lu Liuliang and his entire family for  “literary crimes” against the Qing government, and the subsequent  death of the Yongzheng Emperor, and said to be Liuliang’s daughter who had managed to survive away, learn martial arts and join/form a group of revolutionaries in a mission of revenge that culminated in her skewering/beheading the emperor. No Wuxia/Nuxia protagonist had dared to go that far before.
The story was reprinted several times following it’s inception, becoming particularly popular in the 1910s-1940s as the character would star in the   Lu Siniang  / Fourth Madam Lu serials starting in 1940, that comprised the first Chinese film franchise and film series about a fictional character, as well as one of the first action film series focused on a female protagonist alongside Hunterwali mentioned above.
Pussy Fane: The only other character in the list created by a woman. She was created by prolific romance writer and editor Jane Littel, who was repeteadly stressed  to be the "longtime companion" of another pulp romance writer Margaret Wallace (one of the pseudonyms Margaret wrote under was called "Margaret Littell", make of that what you will), with Pussy Fane being a short-lived attempt to combine crime and romance.
Pussy Fane is a Proto-Superhero from 1931, a beautiful escort/party girl who grew up in the circus among jungle cats and is forced to deal with blackmailers and gangsters. She regularly douses herself in perfume to mask their scent, and is burdened with regret and sorrow over her upbringing and nature, repeteadly hearing others refer to her as inhuman and more than half cat. She is also superhumanly strong and athletic, said to have the strength of 20 men, and she also regularly rips off the arms of would-be-rapists.
Yes, it’s a tragedy you’re only just now hearing about this character, it’s a damn shame the stinky classy-yet-feral woman who runs around ripping off the arms of grubby rapist gangsters missed her call in pop culture stardom as did so many of these.
So here there are, 12 female pulp heroes all encompassing different archetypes, as well as different genres and countries of origin. There are more, yes. They are difficult to find enough info to write about, yes. Is the effort worth it? You bet. I find it imperative to shout to the world that these characters and others like them existed, that plenty of them were popular and acclaimed in their own right, even in ways that overshadow the American characters and defy our pop culture preconceptions of what pulp female characters all have to look like.
There was no archetype or type of story available to pulp heroes that was closed off to the women, not now, not a hundred years ago when Ethel King established new paradigms for the Great Detective and dime novel fiction before Hunterwali made action film history doing everything Douglas Fairbanks was doing and then some, not even well over a hundred years ago when Lu Siniang was beating The Count of Monte Cristo and all the ensuing dramatic masked avengers to the punch in backstory and over-the-top revenge. We only stand to lose confining these to the dustbins of history and standing by such a shallow perception of what could be done, and what was done, back then with pulp heroines.

Super Bowl Sunday (Romanogers Version)
Tumblr media
Edits in this collage by @faith2nyc Read on AO3
The whistle blows, sealing their win. But even as the confetti rains down from above in a plethora of colors and his teammates erupt in elation all around him – jumping and high-fiving and joyfully screaming over the blaring music – Steve can’t help but steal a glance at the scoreboard just to be sure.
Avengers 21-14 Guardians FINAL
They had truly done it. Against the odds, their team had pushed through a season littered with injuries and shock, last-minute trades. He takes his helmet off, his lips curling up in a smile as he shakes his head in disbelief.
“How does it feel to be a three-time Super Bowl Champion, Cap?”
He turns to see that Maria Hill, the lead anchor from SHIELD Sports, has made her way to him. She holds a microphone up as the rest of her camera crew and the Avengers’ PR team crowd around them. Impressing a seasoned veteran like Maria is no easy feat, but even he can see the touch of awe in her expression, and his pride swells just in the slightest. He chuckles, his shoulders lifting in a shrug as he contemplates her question.
He recalls the first time he had won as though it was just yesterday. The adrenaline that had lingered in his veins long after the whistle had blown and he had gotten his hands on the Lombardi. The satisfaction of having conquered his life-long dream was euphoric. The thirst to feel this high once again immediate. In that moment, all the sacrifices he had made from the grueling workouts to the missed Holidays with his family – they were all worth it.
His second win was further sweetened by the vindication. Of having proven to the media and the pundits and every person that doubted his return from injury that they were wrong. Bringing the trophy home for the Avengers was his way of repaying the fans for their continued belief in what he still had to offer and the team for standing by him after the circus that his personal life had thrown them into. Above all, though, his second ring was another means for him to show Natasha how much he valued every risk she had taken for him – for them – and for this beautiful life that they now shared.
But this time… This time feels disparate. It’s no less sweet by any means. When there are footballers who could only dream of winning the Super Bowl once, much less three times, he knows what a privilege it is for him to be standing here, victorious, at this very moment. And it’s not as though this time is any less hard-fought or miraculous as the others. In more ways than one, getting here has been harder than it’s ever been. Even so, there’s something distinct about this particular win that he can’t quite put a finger on, so he tells Maria the one thing he does know for certain.
“I don’t think it’s really sunk in yet,” he says, earning a laugh from Maria and the crowd around them. “But what I do know is that I’m so proud of this team. Every single person played their hearts out tonight and gave their absolute everything. They deserve this.”
“As do you, their fearless leader.”
“They make my job easy, that’s for sure,” he says with a grin.
“To that we can agree,” Maria says. “Let’s talk about the fans then. Any message for them?”
“Oh, definitely-”
“Daddy!”
Even in the midst of the pandemonium surrounding him, the voice is one he could pick out anywhere. Years of media training had honed his ability to tune out the loudest of distractions especially when he’s right smack in the middle of a televised interview, but not this one. He could never ignore this one.
He turns towards the sound, and he feels his face threatening to split in half with how wide his smile grows when he sees Nadia making her way towards him, her pigtails swinging from side to side as she runs as fast as her little legs will take her. Bucky is a half a step ahead, his teammate clearing a path for his daughter in the melee. Natasha lingers a few paces behind them, carrying Brady as Pietro dutifully flanks her. His eyes meet Natasha’s for the briefest of moments, and they share a smile before he crouches down, opening his arms out wide.
“There’s my girl!” he says as he scoops Nadia into his arms and rises to his feet.
“You win, Daddy!” Nadia exclaims, beaming from ear to ear. “I so proud of you!”
There’s a chorus of aww around them, but he can’t focus on anything other than how his heart feels too big for his chest right now. “Thank you, sweetheart,” he says, making Nadia squeal when he nuzzles her cheek. And, as if sensing her presence, he shifts Nadia against one hip so he can use his other hand to pull Natasha into his side just as she comes to stand next to him. His smile widens as he looks down at her and their son, who’s still somehow sleeping soundly against her chest. “Hi there.”
“Hi,” Natasha greets before smiling. “Congratulations, Cap.”
“Thank you,” he says, leaning down for a kiss. There’s a smirk on her lips when they pull away. “You’re about to say something about how sweaty I am, aren’t you?”
“More like how you might be forgetting something,” she deadpans, nodding towards the cameras when his brow furrows in confusion.
His eyes widen. “Oh, right,” he says, earning a laugh from everyone as he turns back towards Maria. “The fans. I mean, what else is there to say but thank you? Thank you for the support and the belief you gave this team.” He shakes his head. “I’m sure I speak for the entire team when I say that your support has powered us through the most difficult of challenges this season and it’s the reason why we did whatever it takes to get to this final game. We hope you enjoy this one!”
Maria nods before a playfully sly grin makes its way to her face as she adds, “And maybe start preparing for the next?”
Despite the chuckle that falls from his lips, Maria’s question gives him pause. Regardless of the season’s results, his response to this very question has been the same for as long as he can remember – a resounding hell yes! and a call for their fans to lock in for what’s to come. This time, though, he finds himself only pulling Natasha closer just as Nadia rests her head against his shoulder.
“Let’s celebrate this one first,” he says finally, and from the corner of his eye, he catches the way Natasha’s head suddenly whips towards him.
“You heard the Captain’s orders,” Maria says into the mic before nodding at him. “Thanks, Steve. Enjoy the rest of the celebrations.”
“Thanks, Maria.”
With a final smile at Maria and her crew, he drapes an arm around Natasha, leading her in the direction of the sideline. It’s when they make it out of earshot of the reporters that Natasha places a hand on his elbow, stopping him in his tracks. He knows he’s good enough to convince Maria and the rest of the country that there’s nothing more to his response other than him wanting to live in the moment. But he can’t fool his wife. And as she looks up at him now, a million and one questions swirling in her eyes, he knows without a doubt that she understands the implication of his words. She sighs. “Steve-”
A soft whimper interrupts her, and they both look down to where Brady is situated against her chest to see their son stirring awake. Natasha smiles when his eyes flutter open. “Hey, you,” she coos, lifting Brady out of his carrier. “Look who finally decided to join the party.”
Brady blinks up at her before looking around, his eyes settling on him. “Dada win?”
“Hey, Bud,” he says, moving to take Brady from Natasha’s arms. “Yes, dada won.” Brady gives him a little clap, and with a chuckle, he dusts a kiss to the little boy’s temple before doing the same to Nadia, who’s still busy taking in the lively scenery around her. He pulls both kids closer to him, reveling in the joy of just having them in his arms before letting out a contented sigh. He’s held many titles in his life from Rookie of the Year to MVP. None of them could quite hold a candle to his favorite – Dad.
When he looks back at Natasha, he finds that her expression has softened to one of pure admiration for the scene before her. “Later, okay?” he says, because yes, while he had seemingly made his mind up in a single moment of clarity, this is a discussion they need to make as a family. And they would, just not right at this moment. “We’ll talk later.”
She holds his gaze for a second longer before nodding. “Okay.”
“Get in here,” he says, smiling when Natasha just shakes her head fondly before wrapping her arms tightly around them. “Oh, I love you guys so much.”
“We love you too, Daddy,” Nadia says. “But can we get Icees now?”
He and Natasha share an amused glance, and as he looks back at Nadia, he has to bite the inside of his cheek to keep from laughing when he sees his daughter staring patiently at him, waiting for a response. “Yes, baby girl,” he says with a chuckle. “We can get Icees now.”

S O U L M A T E S
42!Miles x fem!OC
WC:929
Tumblr media
It is said that in the beginning of time, when humans were first created, they had a form different to the humans today.
They were both man and woman.
They had four arms.
Four legs.
And a single head made of two faces.
Humans were powerful creatures, fearless and strong.
They threatened to become Gods themselves
It’s said that Zeus feared their power and decided to split them into separate parts, condemning them to spend their lives in search of their other halves.
They forever longed for their soul and physical other half.
And according to the myth, when these two halves find each other, there will be a silent understanding of one another.
They will be joined and exist with each other in unison and will know no greater joy than that.
Miles sat at his desk in his room with a fresh page present in his sketchbook and music blasting through his headphones, making the world around him go quiet.
He hasn’t drawn in what feels like ages, so it was new for him to get back into the groove.
But he had new inspiration.
There was this girl.
Her name was Nadia. Meaning Hope.
To him, her eyes made the stars look dim. They were a light brown color that lit up whenever she talked about anything she was passionate about.
There were countless times she had gifted him a necklace or a bracelet she made in the middle of class.
And each time he put it around his neck or his wrist and wore it until it broke or until she brought him another one and the old one would get placed inside a box that was on his dresser.
Miles would compliment her every chance he got. Whether it was the way her curly hair fell over her shoulders or the way her laugh sounded whenever he said something stupid.
He knew she didn’t believe him. And he thought it was sad that she didn’t see what he saw.
One day Nadia came into class looking completely different. Her hair was straightened, she had makeup on, and she had contacts in instead of her normal frames.
Obviously there was nothing wrong with a little change. If she was happy then he was happy.
But she looked miserable.
She was annoyed with the straight pieces that continued to frizz up, she would constantly rub her eyes making them red, and she would pull on the articles of clothing.
“What’s wrong?”
Miles asked her.
Nadia put her head down and told him that a couple people told her that she should look different. That she should wear makeup and that she should exchange her glasses for some contacts, and she should straighten her hair so it wasn’t so distracting and so it would look neat.
After class Miles ended up pulling the girl towards his dorm room to let her change. He offered to wash her hair for her and gave her a wipe and some face wash so she could wash off the makeup that was on her skin.
He told her that she was beautiful just the way she was and she shouldn’t change how she looked just because a couple people told her too.
Now everytime she asks if she looks okay, he says the same thing to her.
“You look beautiful just the way you are. A smile is all you’re missing.”
If perfect is what she was searching for, then in Miles’ opinion
She didn’t have to keep searching.
When Nadia and Miles first met, they clicked instantly.
It was like a silent understanding, they didn’t have to go through the awkward stage that friends normally went through.
They couldn’t think of anything better when they would find themselves on top of the school’s roof with the soft beat of Ella Mai’s Naked playing through the speaker with food surrounding them as Miles told her stories of him and his dad.
When Miles asked Nadia to be his girlfriend it was one of the easiest things he had ever done.
He had to remember everything his dad told him and gave himself a pep talk as he walked himself to your dorm with flowers in hand and a small teddy bear in the other.
He didn’t stumble over his words or start sweating like he thought he was going to.
It all just flowed naturally.
Like they had done this all before.
There was no reason to be embarrassed with each other or nervous.
It was all natural.
There was no greater joy than when they were with each other.
It’s like they were soul mates.
There are many definitions for a soul mate.
However in Greek mythology, there is a myth.
But its just a myth.
Right?

Whelp, I just woke up, and (without naming names) I just saw a reaction that I am 100% taking with a grain of salt.
Let’s take a look.
Okay, if they’re bringing up the chip subplot now after it supposedly got resolved, that’s not a good sign.
Also, Ben got fucked out of saving Hannah’s husband. And having seen the synopses for the last two episodes of the season [sidenote, NBC, ya gonna fucking announce a renewal or… …?], long story short, oof.
And we’re at a funeral reading in 1953, and Ben may or may not be the maid.
Okay, no offense, that vase looks like shit.
“Is this a joke?” I know, right?!
Oh, so Daddy was too busy being Indiana Jones to remember how money worked.
“To my fearless Dina-” “It’s Dean.” …misspelling, or deadnaming? Is this a trans plot?
A ship in a bottle, I don’t know if they make those anymore.
And it goes smash. …revealing a map; okay, Ben won this will reading.
Addison, why the fuck do you continue to have the shittiest timing
“Hey, I know we’re supposed to be working, and Ben just leapt in, but you wanna ditch this episode?”
Okay, legitimately, I couldn’t tell if Ian was wearing glasses or not.
“I planned a wedding once. That led to me burying a not-dead man’s belongings in the park; the cops are still nagging me to dig that shit up.”
Yeah, remember, you have jobs?
“Are you sure I’m not rushing you?” You want to get married a day or so after proposing. What do you think?
Like, not to make a controversial statement, but Ross Gellar at least had the foresight to wait a few months.
“Do not wait to live your life. Otherwise, time travel will fuck you over.”
And the horrible vase is dead.
San Patricio… Quick Google search gave me this little number, so my interest is peaked…
…okay, I don’t think Wikipedia mentioned cursed jewels, so fuck me, I guess.
Okay, wait, I just realized: is Sarah played by Veronica from Riverdale?
How much longer until they realize the Accelerator isn’t doing shit, and it’s Ben?
I agree: Family bullshit is less enticing than being Indiana Jones. But unfortunately, it’s this show, so you should already know the punchline.
“[Dean] is the key to all this.” Like how Horace was the key to Halloween Havoc.
I love the Kramer entrance Ben just pulled.
Teamwork makes the dream work, and maybe Veronica can stop bitching.
I love how Will Man is intentionally withholding the lore unless it’s for dramatic moments.
Okay, quick math time; 40 mill in 1953 would be about… almost half a fucking billion in 2024, so…
This looks less like Mexico and more like The Darjeeling Limited.
Who sings opera while biking?
Yes, that’s right, make Addison bring up the wedding now of all places…
“Hey, I know you’re talking to ghosts, but check out the map!”
Well, given how the priest killed for those jewels, blood probably did get on them, so he wasn’t wrong…
That wasn’t “fashion advice”, that was “we’re going on a treasure hunt, don’t overload the fucking suitcase” advice, Veronica.
“Okay, maybe let’s stop deadnaming and let’s get crunk.”
[Okay, how have I not noticed the producer is named “Meg Fister” until now?]
Yes, Jenn, Ian does want to do their job, that’s not a shock.
“Look, if we’re still pretending 2023- now 2024- is supposed to be 2026, then Addison and Tom can get married. That’s the law.”
[I will fucking laugh if my long standing theory pays out, and Ben undoes the time skip.]
“Hey, Rachel, I just said a sitcom line-” “Ian, we are fucked, they remembered the chip subplot.” “I thought we finished that!”
…is Tom a puppet?
And, in a rather appropriate cutaway, we go to the bar.
A bar is not a place to yell, pleas calm down.
“Nadia, where did you learn Spanish?” “From a person who speaks Spanish.”
I don’t like how the bartender is immediately in the know.
And that satchel is going to get taken in 5… 4… 3…
Ben, with that type of scratch, you can change all their fucking lives.
“And what are we doing?” Not looking after a satchel?
Why does their dad look like Santa?
And it’s now a race.
Ben, he was clearly lying about not believing the treasure was real.
Sarah, you don’t just get to decide to abandon the episode after fucking everything up.
“I have a very good memory, and I’m friends with a ghost.”
Sarah, if you hadn’t left the satchel, this wouldn’t be as bad, stop denying fault.
Meanwhile, back in Subplot 2.
Look, Ian, if it makes you feel any better, given how next week involves a leap into the 1980s, dealer’s odds Ben accidentally erases Gideon from the show.
Meanwhile, back to the treasure; this is a packed week for everyone, isn’t it…
Well, this is Indiana Jones coded, so one of you had to do the snake line…
“Well, I am not climbing down that.” Okay, die then.
Okay, you won’t drown, but if you slip, you will break something. Small miracles.
So the jewels are a metaphor- okay, if the plot twist is that the dad hid the jewels back home, due to “home being the real treasure,” I will piss blood.
“Some say it was Saint Patrick. Some say it was Santa.”
Okay, I thought that was gonna be a zombie.
Either bartender wanted to cover his tracks, or bartender is under those rocks.
“Is there another option?” Get to fucking digging.
Sarah, legitimately, stop being a bitch.
God is getting angry now, that’s how much we’re approaching the Family Bullshit Event Horizon.
Okay, that’s peak comedic timing. “THE ROCK’S FAKE! :D”
Dad’s pun fetish, I swear to God.
Stephen King had once again gotten his grubby mitts into an episode of Quantum Leap.
They found the prop wall.
That was not fucking funny, that got me.
…well, I mean, to be fair, the key to all great comedy is misdirection… 🥁
And of course.
[I choose to split this up now.]

what they smell like :  the top two scent would be lemon and honey, those are pretty much her go tos, than followed by florals and baked goods. nadia loves light and sweet scents. fresh laundry is also a light, airy scent too. but if you were think of nadia, than lemon and honey perfumes come to mind.
how they sleep ( sleeping position, schedule, etc ) : when nadia sleeps, gets actually good sleep which she starts to have once she's escaped to america, nadia sleeps solid and in just about any position she's curled up in. now she does have an issue with falling asleep, and when her mental health isn't taken care of, or starts to sleep she will lose sleep; this is typical a result of a manic episode of her bipolar disorder, with which she will stay up for days on end, and even when she enters into the depression half still may not sleep. part of taking care of her health, does include trying to adhere to a sleep routine of at the very least, 6 hours, and allow naps if she feels they are needed
what music they enjoy : when it comes to music it's what on the radio, whatever is the current pop culture, although she does love t-swift, pink, lady gaga, lizzo, olivia rodrigo, dua lipa, beyonce, selena gomez, rihanna, ariana, miley, the list goes on and on; again whatever pop culture female singer is on the radio, she likes. someone really does need to introduce her to acoustic and folk music, cause she'd really like the soft and lowkey vibes of music like that.
favorite thing to collect : plushies, bee themed item of any sorts, trinket, she will hold onto any trinket or knickknacks gifted to her. anything really, she didn't have this before and now she simply gets to have possessions.
left or right-handed :  ambidextrous, she'll tend to default to whatever the most common is being used by others (everyone is right handed, so she's using her right too), or whatever is convenient at the time
favorite kind of weather :  sunny and partly cloudy, and with a slight breeze. that's the perfect weather, not too hot or cold, warm and the breeze feels so nice when she's flying and partly cloudy so the sun isn't blinding.
weird/obscure fear they have : so with nadia, there isn't necessarily a weird or obscure fear she has, that isn't to say she is fearless; but for one, she's got things that is very much afraid that she battles with and overcomes, and than there's so much of the world he didn't have access growing up, and grown up in a place where fear would have been snuffed out; so that she operates under try everything at least twice, and her fears are very reasonably developed based on her childhood; such as freedom being stripped away, failure, loss, and etc that's her top fears

armony episode 4 review
Okay, this week was a LOT better for armony content, and some of it was rather lovely. So, let’s get into it right away.
Before I talk about scenes with Thony and Arman in them, I just have to mention the fact that Nadia felt the need to bring up Thony on two separate occasions, and she’ll bring it up again next week. I wonder how many more times it will take until Arman chooses to outright ignore her?
So, I was right when Thony suggested to Fiona that they bring in Arman, and she would refuse, because of his reputation. But while Fiona is out, Thony calls him anyway, which displeases Fiona. When he arrives, Thony and Arman exchange quiet greetings, then he introduces himself to Fiona, whose reaction to him is absolutely hilarious. He gets a kick out of it, too. He sets his eyes on Thony again, who tells him where Jon is. Arman goes into the bathroom, only to pop back out and ask Thony if she tied Jon up. She says yes, and he responds, “it looks like you learned a few things”, followed up with a wicked smile. Okay, so I inferred last week that arman would be proud of Thony handling things, but this exceeded my expectations. I mean, how hot was that? It was more than just pride, it was laced with passion and want. His voice? Deep and husky. Hot dang. It’s been too long since we’ve seen him like that (by the way, he’s SUCH a hypocrite when he told Nadia that he doesn’t like the way Kamdar looks at her**).
Arman checks to see that Jon is good and secure though unconscious. While they wait, Thony and Arman talk. She apologizes for making such a call, and he shrugs it off, saying it’s fine. Likely not convinced, she asks if he’s ok. He explains he took care of something for Kamdar. Thony inquires about his association with Kamdar, and he gives her the gist. He senses that Thony is a bit unnerved, and, with a concerned expression, he asks if Kamdar mentioned stuff to her. She tells him about Kamdar beating up his guy. arman says that there is a reason he didn’t want Nadia to go to him She asks what might happen if he can’t repay the debt, he says in a strained voice that he will, that he has to. His phone goes off. It’s Nadia, demanding where he’s at. He sighs and goes silent, and Nadia instantly knows he’s with Thony. He’s like, don’t be like this, she needs my help. Nadia retorts, “she always needs your help,” and hangs up. Thony overhears and apologizes if she’s causing problems for him. Arman tells her it’s never a problem where she’s concerned, his expression totally reassuring. While all this is going on, Fiona is watching like 👀. She was very studious of their interactions, but I don't think she's quite figured out their true relationship.
Later, when all three are in the bathroom, Arman tells Thony and Fiona to leave, and he'll take care of Jon from here. Fiona asks what that means, but Thony knows, and she's like, "Arman, no." Fiona figures it out, and she tells him they're not murderers. He snidely remarks to her, "isn't that why you called?" Even though he knows full well Thony is the one who called. He continues, saying this guy is a witness, knows too much. Thony argues that she was a witness and he didn’t kill her. Arman replies softly that she’s different. She shakes her head, almost not believing him. She counters that she was scared, and Arman's lips twitch, remembering and possibly wanting to say something. Thony believes that if they can scare Jon good enough, he’ll give up the password. So Thony tells them they need ice to wake him up.
Okay, can we just talk about the expression on Arman's face as he tells Thony she’s different? It’s one of pure love and adoration; there’s a faint smile on his lips that reaches his eyes. It’s beautiful, and something I don’t think we’ve seen from him. Plus, his words hold double meaning. She’s “different” because he knows who she is deep down. Thony’s not some dodgy character like Jon who wants money for malevolent reasons. She’s a fearless mother, with a kind and caring spirit. But she’s also different from any woman who’s been in his life; she’s special and sacred to him.
Once Jon wakes up, he sees Arman staring at him. When he asks who he is, Arman gives him a monologue of being the one who decides his fate. Thony pipes in, saying they just want the password. Jon isn’t exactly thrilled she brought Arman into this to torture him. Arman then interjects, demanding Jon to leave Thony and Fiona alone, give them what they want, and keep his mouth shut, he’ll get to live. Jon angrily says arman should just shoot him now, seeing as his life doesn’t mean anything anyway. Thony gets a strange gleam in her eye, saying that it does. She kneels down slowly and explains about how she’s a surgeon and says she sells organs on the red market. Thony then begins to touch Jon, telling him what each organ would cost. Meanwhile, Arman is just sitting there patiently and quietly with a smug expression. He freaks out, asking what’s she taken. She assures him nothing yet, then offers up, with a whisper of charming malice on her face, that she can even take his skin. Thony threatens to take everything one by one if he doesn’t give up the password. Arman issues an ultimatum, and Jon caves, telling him he’ll hand it over as long as Arman doesn’t let Thony cut him up. Jon gives him the password, and Arman inquires if that is the only file, and he swears it is. Arman looks up at Thony, who toughens her expression, and orders, actually orders, Arman to watch Jon until she and Fiona get back.
The producers weren’t kidding when they let on that Thony would explore a darker side. Holy crap, she was just so calculated in a subtle way, it was truly scary. Arman was just eating it up. Seriously, he was incredibly pleased to see how far she’s come. His smile is haughty and keeps his eyes on Jon most of the time, but there is a second where he lifts them up to Thony, and his smile is similar to that of earlier.
after they erase the file, Thony and Fiona begin to clean up the office. Fiona tells Thony she changed when she was conversing with Arman. Then she becomes compassionate, realizing Thony does trust him. But she asks why, knowing who he is. Thony doesn’t hesitate when she answers, “because he shows up when I need him”. I have a feeling that this is foreshadowing in an opposite direction, but, for now, let me focus on the line at present. I think this goes back to Marco’s treatment of her when in Manila. He was a crappy husband and did crappy things, but here’s a man who puts her first, loves her for who she is.
Thony and Fiona get back to the room, where Arman is waiting. He asks if they deleted the video, to which Thony says yes, but there were copies. This angers him that Jon lied. Thony just goes off, saying Arman was right, and he reiterates that extortion will never end. Fi knows what this means but she doesn’t want it. Arman calmly tells her that she doesn’t have to, that he promised to protect her family and he’ll take care of it. Thony can sense her fear, and asks if she can have a moment with Fiona, and he obliges. She tells her because Chris is her son, it’s her decision. She knows what has to happen, and gets angry at Jon, wondering why he’s done it. Thony doesn’t know, yet tells Fiona that he can’t be trusted. Hardening her expression, Fiona looks at arman and tells him, “whatever happens, happens.” He nods solemnly. Fiona then takes her leave, Before Thony follows, she glances back at Arman, who assures her, “it’s okay.”
There are a couple of really nice moments in this scene between Thony and Arman. First, she touches his arm before talking with Fiona. It seemed to be something to ground herself before talking it straight with Fiona. She had to know that he was there with her, that touching him would give her some kind of power. Then, we have the moment where she looks back at him. His head bobs, reassuring her it’s okay to leave, though the somber tone of his voice says otherwise. He’s sad that they found themselves in this situation, and it hurts him that Thony is so torn over this, and that he even has to carry out the unthinkable, which he was hesitant to do before, The fact that he goes through with it shows us just how much Thony and her livelihood is important to him. If there’s not a declaration from him this season, I’m calling foul.

"I like you, as a person. As a whole, who you became. Youre a strong dedicated woman, seemingly fearless. Youre smart, ruthless.... You grew up into an amazing person, even without me. The woman standing before me today is one that I admire. Even if you're so damn MEAN sometimes- youre strong. Probably stronger than me. I'm proud of who you are. Who you turned out to be in spite of me."
