My awakened mouse alchemist, Fibi, has confronted her big bad, the sorceress Ilyara.

Ilyara, who tortured Fibi for years and turned her into what she is, has been kidnapping children from the slums, and to Fibi’s horror, has been transferring their spirits to mice for easy containment until they can be sacrificed to keep the god of death sealed away. This has Fibi wondering what that means about her existence. Does her soul also belong to a child who was stolen away from their family and home?

The party returns to their base in the Dregs to a bar owned by a couple of retired adventurers, Mulch and Merna, and their adopted teenaged son, Benny. After hearing the party’s story, Benny is determined to go after Ilyara himself. “She has my sister.”

Meanwhile, I am trying to keep a poker face as my party doesn’t pick up on the little hint and the DM gives me a wink.

Pictured is Benny and his older sister, Mae. They were orphaned, separated, and sent to live with different family friends before running away together to live on their own. They scrapped by with the other street urchins, but Mae was an aspiring alchemist. She got a tip that the head of the alchemy guild, Ilyara, was looking for an apprentice. She left Benny to pursue the job opportunity so that she could provide for them both. Mae promised to come back and get him the moment she could.

She never came back.

Mulch and Merna found Benny wandering the streets alone and took the boy in, they’ve been a content family unit for the last ten years, but Benny’s always wondered what could have happened to Mae.

Currently Watching: well........currently nothing lmao. I was watching Critical Role campaign 3 and FMA:B for a while but my brain has stopped processing new media for a bit so I'm very behind on both now.

Current Obsession: trying to get this fix-it fic for the Endwalker caster role quests done. I'm at the point where I'm wedging open the stilted dialogue to fit in Kitali's own observations and making it feel like an actual conversation (much like I had to do with the ARR patch fics). It feels like I'm playing one of those sliding grid puzzles with lines and plot beats I want to hit.

as for top 5 story ideas i wish i had some time to write, here are some longfic ideas i have floating around in my head. some i've had for over a real long time now. they're fun to toy with, to roll over in my mind until they're smooth like a river stone.

a babylon 5/mdzs crossover with telepaths and songxuexiao, with xue yang being a telepath who is on the run and song lan as a psi corps cop tasked with tracking him down.

a deeply intricate post ca:tws winterhawk story where clint is holed in in a safehouse somewhere and bucky hunts him down and asks for his help in exchange for information on phil coulson's whereabouts. loops in some early agents of shield stuff and is kind of an around-the-world casefic.

currently i'm toying with the idea of a x-files au where krycek runs into mulder in a bdsm club. some horrible things ensue.

a very strange omegaverse (i don't even really like omegaverse) fma:b au where roy is a late-presenting omega and edward is an alpha. i feel like this would mostly just be self-indulgent identity misery more than it would ever be porn.

i have a kylux scp!au partially written. i think about it sometimes, bc i love the vibe (no one is having a great time) and the universe (so spooky, so strange, so governmental) so much.

conflict is in many ways the heart of a story, and I think in D&D specifically this is more true than anything. it's not bad to like fluff and comforting stories where all the character are wholesome and conflict doesn't really exist - but it IS boring. and in the case of fanfiction it more often than not flattens he characters until they are unrecognizable - and at that point... why is it a fanfic?

Oh man so this is a whole other post that I might make at a later time but here's the thing - I don't mind like, short fluffy one-shots for complex characters. Like, to give a CR example, Veth is a complicated, rounded character who explores a lot of conflict and attitudes towards power and trauma, but I would also happily read a story about her adding an ice cream counter to the apothecary. But the reason I care enough to do that is because the complex story that made me like her exists, and this is a brief side excursion. I would not care enough to read that about a random OC (and if Veth is not characterized well in this fluffy one shot fic and is flattened, I will feel like it's about a random OC and close it). Like...I think my general feeling is that fluff (or whump, or anything that's simple pure formulas of emotion rather than like, a story) fanfic as supplementary material is great, it's just very much supplementary and not the main thing for me, and characterization must be spot on otherwise it's truly devoid of anything I'm interested in (ie, the characters from the canon story in a situation, even if it's an entirely pleasant situation).

The separate post I want to make though is that I think the best way to combat this in your own writing and enjoyment is to watch/read a variety of things. I was reluctant to write meta on FMA:B because I'm really not familiar with manga/anime and any thoughtful analysis require familiarity with those conventions. I think there's a place for wholesome and comfort media with easily resolved conflicts, and I've enjoyed Schitt's Creek and Ted Lasso as much as anyone, but I really don't think you can only watch that and then be able to speak to stories with anti-heroes. I think that the fact that I've been a fan of Succession, Mad Men, The Wire, and Severance, even though three of those aren't SF, has been a factor in why I actively want stories that engage with power and control and social structures in interesting ways. I think a lot of the weird takes on The Ravening War are because people are treating it like it's a teen drama and not low fantasy political intrigue, and branching out a little would do them wonders.

JDJGJGKGKDKD JEEZ I'M SO SORRY IT TOOK SO LONG FOR ME TO ANSWER THIS BUT IT MEANS SO MUCH TO ME THANK YOU SO MUCH AAAAAAA

I have about 6 FMA:B ocs at the moment and tbh they can be split between a group of kids I have from Leore and two Briggs folks (though one is retired from the military) But without further ado!!

Damaris is one of the first fma ocs I've made!! She's from Leore, her mom is Amestrian and her dad is Xingese and they run a flower and tea shop, respectively. Damaris is a hugeee nerd as well as a tomboy and she's not afraid of getting her hands dirty and was known to brawl with neighborhood bullies, especially if they picked on any of her friends. She's 19 by the events of the series, and uses medicinal alchemy as well as a form of alchemy that allows her to change the chemical makeup of metal and wears a set of bangles and rings she turns into a knife and brass knuckles, respectively. She's also Bi 😗✌️Her introduction into the series occurs shortly after the Elric brothers expose Father Cornello as a fraud, when she returns from her studies of alchemy and alkahestry in Xing on word that her mom is seriously ill.

This is Sylva Cartwright! He's one of Damaris' childhood friends and they are opposites in almost every way between her extroversion and his introversion, her recklessness and his anxiety, etc. They are besties tho and she defended him a lot from people picking on him when they were kids. His dad is a Colonel at Briggs who works in Intelligence, and his stepmom is a school teacher in Leore. He works in Damaris' dad's tea shop and is also 19 during the series.

Rena is another of Damaris and Sylva's friends. She's also 19 in the story. Her mom ran a bakery and pastry shop in Leore and her father was a tailor. They were both murdered in the Ishvalan massacre, and she and her younger sister Miriam were separated. Rena holds onto hope that her sister survived, however, especially after she's given a crumpled letter in her handwriting meant to tell her that she's trying to find her. She has significant burn scars on the left side of her face and her shoulder and torso.

Rena eventually returns to Leore and finds Damaris and Sylva who are both equally shocked to see her again when they'd feared the worst for her, and there was a tearful reunion between the three of them before Rena explains that she's looking for Miriam, thinking she'd tried to go home too and when she's not able to find her in town, Damaris and Sylva both agree to travel with her across Amestris to find her.

And this is Miriam! I can't tell you very much without spoiling the story I'm wanting to write with her, but do know that she's alive. She's 16 during the story.

One of my (former) Briggs oc's! This is Laurel Enfield, he is currently a foreign languages professor at a military academy in Central. He holds the rank of Brevet Colonel, and is retired from the military after receiving a very serious injury that cost him his right arm and left him with a permanent limp. He's about 33 during the series and is prematurely graying because he went through a lot of stress with u know.... almost dying, and having a particularly brutal recovery process.

Despite how I drew him here, he's very sweet and a huge nerd about history and languages and eventually becomes bf's with @decoloraa 's William Thorne! He actually only had a minor role in my story but my friends decided he was babygirl so I was able to really flesh out his story and give him a larger role!

Whew! And finally this is Dr. Antony Fairchild! She is a psychiatrist who works at Briggs and is a huge lesbian. I don't have any colored drawings of her unfortunately so this will have to make do😭. She comes from a family of doctors in Central and is a bit of the oddball in that she chose psychology as her specialty- which I sort of view as holding a lot of uncharted territory with current studies in Amestris. She's sweet and got a corny sense of humor, and I look forward to writing her shenanigans with the Briggs medical team!! I also ship her with Patricia 👀
