With enough force to make the surrounding bamboo tremble, Itachi tumbled backwards and hit the ground. Budo stood over him, shaking out his wrist. "I gotta hand it to you, Zametora-kun, your endurance and strength are incredible."

Itachi swiped his fist across his mouth to wipe off the blood from biting his cheek. "But?"

"But nothing. It's just a compliment."

Itachi jumped to his feet, jabbing his finger into Budo's chest. "Don't pretend like you're the bigger man, asshole. In your head, you're probably spouting bullshit about how I'm wasting my potential without martial arts."

"Nothing as crass as that. Just that you lack technique. Because of that, you shouldn't be so quick to criticize my club members." Budo gestured to Sho, who was watching the match with Unagi. Sho returned to Budo's side and the two of them left the Japanese garden. Itachi stood in one spot up until they left, staring down at the ground.

Unagi slowly approached him. "Hey, man, let's-"

"Don't fucking talk to me like we're pals," Itachi warned. "Get lost or I'll show you that brute strength Masuta was talking about."

Unagi bristled at the harsh words. "I can't wait for Rito-senpai to finish her training," he muttered before heading to the locker room. After a few minutes, Itachi slowly trudged out of the garden, but rather than turn left to get ready for the sports club meeting, he turned right towards the school's exit. He couldn't face his members in this disgrace. Especially Mantaro, who idolized Budo the way he did. He was embarrassed and enraged; why had Budo challenged him just for giving his club member a little smack talk? Sho needed to be taken down a peg, anyway. His ideals weren't realistic. Budo didn't need to demolish Itachi's pride for something like that, surely. He couldn't even take solace in accepting defeat; instead he'd gotten mad and antagonized his opponent. Even his own club member was sick of him. Things couldn't continue as normal; not for today, at least.

As he wallowed in his rage, he heard a gentle voice. "Zametora-kun? Is that you?" Itachi looked up to his right and saw Uekiya standing at the entrance to the gardening club, hugging a potted flower to her chest. When their eyes met, her face melted into a radiant smile. "It's so rare to see you around here, but it's a pleasant surprise. Is your club not meeting today?"

Itachi bared his teeth in a painful grimace. "Leave me alone."

Uekiya tilted her head, somehow unfazed. "Did something happen?"

"I said to-" Itachi interrupted himself when he caught sight of the plant in Uekiya's arm. "Shouldn't you be wearing gloves before handling a plant like that?"

Uekiya glanced between the flower and Itachi, a sparkle growing in her eyes. "So you know this flower?"

"It's a Japanese iris. Even touching it can hurt you."

Uekiya smiled brightly. "I never imagined you'd know so much about flowers! You're right, I probably should have put gloves on. People have been talking about a cat wandering around the school grounds, so I was in a rush to move it. It would be horrible if the cat chewed on it and got sick!" She eyed Itachi carefully. "Would you like to help me decide where to put it?"

Itachi scoffed and looked away. "As if I care what happens to a damn cat."

"Well, I'm going to move the plant regardless, but I need to pick a spot where it'll get enough sunlight and look good with the other plants. A second opinion never hurts with this kind of thing!"

Itachi glared down at the ground. He had no reason to play along with something silly like this. But he was also this close to punching something. He needed some way to soothe his nerves. His shoulders slumped as he sighed and turned to enter the gardening club.

"Oh, thank you!" Uekiya said enthusiastically. Itachi surveyed the club, taking stock of its layout. The other members were around, but after casting one glance in his direction, returned to their respective tasks. If they felt intimidated or repulsed or even amused by his presence, they didn't show it.

Over the next half hour, Uekiya and Itachi tried their best to find a spot for the iris, but instead wound up discussing all of the other plants conserved in the gardening club. Akademi's resources had given the club several challenging plants with which to test their cultivation skills; including the seeds of an incredibly rare Middlemist's Red. When they finally chose a place for the potted iris, Uekiya spoke up, "You know, you remind me a bit of this flower."

Itachi reacted immediately. "Are you seriously comparing me to this weak thing?"

Anyone else might have flinched, but Uekiya giggled as if Itachi had been joking. "Irises aren't weak! They're so well-guarded that you shouldn't even touch them, let alone consume them. It's hard to appreciate their beauty when they make it so hard to get close, but if you're brave enough, you can see all the details that make it special." Itachi stared down at Uekiya, who was gazing up at the blooming iris. "Do you know what irises mean in the language of flowers?"

"Uh... it's purple, so royalty, right?"

"That's right! But it also means respect." Uekiya beamed up at Itachi. "I deeply respect you, Zametora-kun. You're so devoted to improving yourself. But every now and then, I hope that you can give yourself some time to stop and smell the roses as well. You can always come here if you need to. After all, the roses are right over there!" Uekiya laughed at her own corny joke, but Itachi didn't say anything. He was too taken aback by her honest admiration and desire to cheer him up. She didn't judge him for liking flowers as a man, or for his thorny personality. He'd never felt so accepted by anyone, not even Asu Rito.

As Uekiya's laughter died down, Itachi spoke quietly. "I will... come back some time soon. Show me more flowers like this."

"I'd be happy to," Uekiya said with a soft smile.

"Uekiya-nee!" Himari called out. "We're all done here, so we're heading home. Don't stay too late!"

"Goodness," Uekiya exclaimed, "Is it that time already? I'd better lock up the shed and head home." Uekiya began fussing about the garden, leaving Itachi frozen in place.

"Um... can I help?" he awkwardly called out.

"That's alright, Zametora-kun! You can go home if you'd like."

But he didn't want to go home.

"I think I'll stay... maybe, uh... walk you home?" Uekiya stopped suddenly, turning to look at him in surprise. Itachi immediately backpedaled. "Because there's rumors about a psycho going around, you know?! If something happens to you, you can't keep your promise."

Uekiya smiled, her cheeks dusted with pink. "Thank you for your protection," she said brightly.

The journey home was awkward, but it was the start of many other offers to escort Uekiya home. After all, they both knew that all kinds of blossoms needed careful tending to.

“Hear The Ringing Echoes” Chapter 1: Lockers

Summary:

"There's no need for goodbyes or funerals, when we have each other's love and memories in our hearts. And as long as we can pass down that love and happiness to the people we care about and to the next generations, I think we can live forever, in a weird way. Love is the most important thing though. If we pass on love... I know the world is going to become a better place, no matter how hard it is today. So... pass on love and hope, not hate." - Shidou Kei's final words and will.

9 months after the initial Outbreak, the graduated School Living Club was forced to abandon the relative safety of Megurigaoka Private High School after a helicopter crash rendered it no longer safe, and embarking on a quest to discover why their world was stolen from them, meeting a mysterious DJ and then rescuing Rii's little sister from a hellish school. And from there the quest to investigate the Randall Corporation shall continue onward, with these girls unaware of the brutally painful road in front of them...

Author notes: Well! This certainly isn't something I ever thought I'd write!Gakkou Gurashi was a huge special interest to me throughout much of 2016. However, extreme frustrations with the University Arc caused me to drop it; and now that its finally over, I decided I'd finally read the rest of it.... Well, I still think the first 30 chapters are a masterpiece in itself. I'm actually still pretty pissed about the whole Ruu twist, and especially how Rii was written from that point. I really felt like Gurashi stopped being something special and just became another dime in the dozen in regards to zombie literature... but re-reading the beginning of this manga reminded me of the passion and love I once had for it. So, after talking about it with friends; here it is, my long fic for the series! Special mention to @marston241 who gave me the support to go through with it <3

This is a story about remembrance. I think in any zombie story, one thing is an absolute; everything dies. It is the one fundamental truth of the real world. And more importantly, this is a story about the legacies we leave when we die. If you have read my oneshot Ozymandias, or, Ramses, the central conflict is about Ayaka wanting to lave her mark into history; and that is a story I want to write. We will all die one day, but the actions we take on earth and our interactions with others will build our legacies that can last long after we die, or until they die as well. What does it mean to be remembered by history? What does it mean to leave a legacy on this world? What does it mean to disappear into the annals of history without making a single mark on society, and what does it mean to fight that or come to peace with it? These are themes I set out to explore. I hope you enjoy it.

A morning in the life of the School Living Club.

It was just a typical day at school for the School Living Club. The sun was shining, the sky was bright, and the zombies outside were as terrifyingly horrible as ever.

Kurumi was the first to wake up that morning. She’d had a hard time sleeping since the mall trip where they had saved the reticent Miki, but now they had another club member and friend to join them. It was a bit irksome having to share the small classroom they called home with four people now (five if you counted Taromaru) but at least they were all safe where the apocalypse wouldn’t be able to get to them.

Kurumi stretched out like a cat in the sun and crawled out of her sleeping bag. She checked the clock on the wall and noticed that it was already nine A.M. “Might as well make breakfast,” she thought. Kurumi walked over to the cabinet containing some of their food supply and took out four instant ramen packs and a bag of dog food for Taromaru. Then, she plugged in the electric teakettle and filled it with water. As it heated up, she filled up Taromaru’s bowl. When the water was hot, she opened the packs and immersed the noodles in hot water from the teakettle. The smell was enough to awaken another member of the club, Yuki. She was quite the food lover, so it was no wonder the ramen had roused her from her slumber.

“Kurumi! Is that breakfast?” Yuki asked sleepily. Kurumi nodded. The pinkette quickly jumped out of her sleeping bag, all previous exhaustion seemingly forgotten as she poked at the others to wake up.

“Miki! Yuuri! Wake up! Breakfast!” Eventually the duo acceded to Yuki’s pestering and arose from their slumbers. Yuki was practically drooling as Kurumi set down the cups of ramen.

“Careful now, it’s pretty hot. Wouldn’t want to get burned!” Kurumi warned Yuki. Thankfully, she was listening and managed to hold off long enough to let the ramen cool before devouring it at lightning speed. Kurumi smiled to herself. After all, this was the first time she’d cooked something on her own, even if it was just a packet of ramen. A ramen breakfast was admittedly an arbitrary decision, but it seemed to have been the right one.

As Yuki finished off the ramen, she gave a beaming smile to Kurumi. She stood up, and in typical ostentatious Yuki fashion, stepped up on her chair in an over dramatic way and said,

“This ramen is so good that I have decided to appoint you the prestigious prize of Best Ramen Cook Ever!” Yuki leapt off her seat and threw her arms around Kurumi in excitement.

They spent roughly twenty minutes sitting at the table and having a pleasant conversation about a funny dream Yuuri had the previous night. It was all going just fine until Yuki seemed to get distracted by something in the room. She seemed to be talking to an invisible being, one who she often referred to as Megu-nee. It always made Kurumi sad whenever Yuki talked to Megu-nee. She was once their advisor who sacrificed herself to save them from zombies, and out of fear Yuki had been hallucinating a normal life of stability ever since.

“Okay Megu-nee!” Yuki blurted out, shocking Kurumi out of her daze.

“What did Megumi say? Sorry, I wasn’t really listening.” Yuuri said sheepishly.

She gave the others a sad smile as she remembered the tragedy that had taken Megumi from them.

“Megu-nee—wait, Sakura sensei said that we need to do laundry today! It’s really sunny and warm outside, so drying it all can be quick!” She stood up and ran over to the bag in the corner full of dirty laundry. The group exchanged a smile and got up from their seats, eager to start the day.

These aren't commissions, so I might take liberties.

Hmmmmmmmm. I, huh. My crappy memory isn’t gonna help in this at all. Okay so fics HAVE made me google stuff on multiple occasions but straight up research? Nnnnno I don’t think so. I don’t have the mental capacity or want to do it. If i ever do “research” (and i say that oh so loosely) anything in the future because of a fic it will go as far as asking google and looking att he first thing i see for like a second bgfdjbgfdj

3. What was the first work of fiction you remember becoming completely engrossed in?

As N Approaches Infinity First work that I remember would be a PowerPuff Girls fanfiction called Misconceptions by Sandstorm3D ( @sandstorm3d is this even the right tumblr shit). Every Saturday there would be an update and it was the best thing ever! obviously sometimes it wasn’t consistent because Life be like that™ and sometimes we even got double chapter updates which was always a treat to get! Another fic that was pretty great (but which i found long after it was complete so i didnt get to be engrossed in) was Taking Responsibility by Somewei another PPG fic ugh so good. ALSO ALSO now that I’M HERE FUCK IT! Another PPG fic that is ALSO SO GOOD! SO GOOD that I’m currenty hella invested in that’s called As Time Goes By by Carriedreamer (OH WU- OH LOOK LINKS i didnt know it worked like that i just copied their name cause i was too lazy to write it- hold on *goes back and edits the other two*). I’m stopping here or god I am 100% going to link every OTHER story I’ve ever loved

4. What work(s) had a lasting influence on you or your writing style?

Nothing really. I get very very into stuff i like but once its over its kinda over? Nothing has really “changed my life” or just left any lasting impressions or whatever other than me being invested in it a lot while im there. Does that count???

5. What kind of sound environment do you prefer for writing/reading? Silent, white noise, music with/without words, sitting in a public place with the ambient noise of humanity, etc.

Music always! The problem arises then that if I can’t find the proper music for the stuff I’m reading, as in for it to have the same atmosphere as the fic (with words or not doesn’t matter) then I’m going to constantly be stopping myself in the middle of reading just so I can go on youtube and find something fitting bgfhjbgfj such a pain

6. Are you or do you like authors who are teases, in story or out?

They infuriate me! In the best way possible. Cliffhangers? Fucking murder me but god I love it. Honestly I love every kind of author bgjgfbgfjgf I just love bein’ dramatic

7. Have you ever experienced a “the characters write themselves” or “character rebellion” mental state?

As a reader I have no idea what that is or how it works or how it feels but god does it fascinate the fuck outta me

8. Do you have a favorite franchise crossover? Like Bleach/Harry Potter, Madoka Magica/Card Captor Sakura, etc.

No sir! Same as music here, if I like it, I like it bgfhjgf As long as I know one (1) of the franchises I don’t care what the other crossover is as long as the fic is good (good to me at least, everyone is different in that regard after all gbfhjgfd opinions opinions so many opinions so many people) THO I will always lament when there ISN’T a crossover with some franchises (or just plain not enough fics for them cough Madoka/Nanoha cough THERE IS NEVER ENOUGH) I’m guilty of seeing similar characters interacting. Just wanting to see them togethere because thEY ARE SO SIMILAR BUT YET SO DIFFERENT AND DYNAMICS YES HELLO GIVE ME *coughs*

9. Do you remember anything about the first fanfic you ever read?

No I don’t but I bet you if I go on my ff.net account RIGHT NOW! and go back to the story I favored first ever, I can tell you about it. I bet im doing it. Im going. Okay so its a PPG one again (wow I really had a ppg phase i mean I DID i still do kind of? i mean n O SHAME TO ME FICS ARE FICS DAMN IT AND THEY’RE SO GOOD) Okay so I clicked it but it doesn’t ring a bell BUT IT DID REMIND ME OF ANOTHER FIC I REALLY LIKED which honestly might as well be the first one ever fuck it whatever. I wrote a fanfic for a lesser known fandom for an already completed work, just seeing a few kudos and favorites means a lot to me <333

I just started my second writing project, one for a really lesser known manga/anime (anime never got a season 2 and manga lost a lot of fans as time went on resulting in a smaller fandom getting even smaller) called Gakkou Gurashi/School-Live! which recently ended, and I was... really scared that like, nobody except any personal friends was going to read it. But! As of chapter 2 it has 73 views, 2 favorites and reviews, and 5 alerts on ff.net! On AO3 it has 4 kudos, no comments but 145 views! And it... it makes me so happy!

I was so scared; I thought almost nobody would read this... and from the fandom reddit where I post it I even made a new friend! I'll be honest... its still a little sad, you know? I know it'll never get even 1/4 of the views and attention of my other fic probably... but now I know; people have read it, and people have enjoyed! And as an author who was so scared of this having maybe 20 views on both site at the most, I'm so happy it's come this far already! And I just want to say, to everyone that's nervous about writing in smaller/dead fandoms now; there's bound to be a few people who will appreciate your work, I realize that now! So don't give up!

9 months after the initial Outbreak, the graduated School Living Club was forced to abandon the relative safety of Megurigaoka Private High School after a helicopter crash rendered it no longer safe, and embarking on a quest to discover why their world was stolen from them, meeting a mysterious DJ and then rescuing Rii’s little sister from a hellish school. And from there the quest to investigate the Randall Corporation shall continue onward, with these girls unaware of the brutally painful road in front of them…

Author notes: So, last chapter was SUPPOSED to be the end of the Prologue Arc, before heading to St. Isidore and beginning the University Arc. However, I made the decision to extend the prologue by two more chapters. This plot bunny is one that’s been in my head regarding GG for literally years now, and I couldn’t not write it given the opportunity. This was just going to be one long, 20+ page chapter, but considering the tone of the first half I decided to split it into two. That being said, enjoy!

But, this was fun tow rite, and helped re-ignite the love I once had for Gakkou Gurashi. More than that I got a chance to write Ruu; and I love Ruu and writing her, so that was especially a treat.
