The Administration, with Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg in the lead responded to the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore. Working with Governor Wes Moore and Mayor Brandon Scott (both Democrats) The Department of Transportation promises to clear the harbor and rebuild the bride. DoT has already released $60 million in emergency funds as a "down payment" and President Biden is expected to seek $1 billion from Congress.

Vice President Harris announced a number of actions and investments designed to improve the quality of life of the peoples of northern central America. driven by poverty, lack of economic opportunities, and out of control crime people in Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras are taking great risks and trusting criminal human traffickers to try to reach the US. The Administration is working to improve conditions in the Northern Triangle so that is no longer necessary. Vice President Harris announced $1 billion dollars in new investments as part of the Central America Forward public-private partnership, since 2021 it has invested $5.2 billion in the region. Harris also announced $175 million dollars of direct aid from the US to Guatemala at a meeting with Guatemalan President Bernardo Arévalo.

The Department of Energy announced a $1.5 billion dollar loan to help restart the Palisades Nuclear Plant. This would mark the first time a nuclear power plant was brought back online after being decommissioned. The hope is keep the plant running till 2051, this 100% green power source is projected to prevent 111 million tons of CO2 emissions in its new life time, the same as taking 100,000 cars off the road. Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer touted it as key for her state reaching its goal of 100% clean energy by 2040.

Vice President Harris launched a social media push to inform the public about the Biden-Harris Administration's SAVE Plan. The Saving on a Valuable Education (SAVE) Plan was launched last year as part of President Biden's efforts to bring student loan forgiveness to millions of borrowers. Currently 7.7 million people are enrolled in SAVE, under which anyone making $16 a hour or less has a monthly payment of $0 on their student loans. 4.5 million SAVE enrollees are making $0 a month payments and another 1 million pay less than $100 a month on their loan repayment, over 150,000 people so far have had their loans totally forgiven. Republicans are suing to try to shut down the SAVE Plan

President Biden took keep steps to ensure quality healthcare this week. Biden extended the window for low-income Americans to apply for Obamacare. The original deadline of July 31st has been pushed back to November 30th. Biden also rolled back Trump era rules that allowed subsidies for "Junk Health insurance" These plans offer very little coverage and often mislead consumers into believing they have insurance when they aren't covered. These short term plans also don't have meet Obamacare standards and can refuse coverage for preexisting conditions.

The EPA announced new regulations aimed at "turbocharging" the number of electric trucks on the road. The new rules aim to have 25% of new long-haul trucks, the heaviest often diesel trucks on the road, and 40% of medium-size trucks (box trucks and landscaping vehicles) be nonpolluting by 2032, currently just 2% are. The regulation would apply to more than 100 types of vehicles including tractor-trailers, ambulances, R.V.s, garbage trucks and moving vans. The new tailpipe limits are expected to prevent about a billion tons of greenhouse gas emissions by 2055.

the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced that thanks to President Biden's Inflation Reduction Act, 41 different drugs will coast those on Medicare Part B less money than it did last year. An estimated 763,700 people on Medicare use at least one of these drugs every year. Some enrollees will save as much as $3,575 per dose.

The Department of Energy announced $6 billion for an effort to decarbonize energy-intensive industries. The investment in 33 projects across 20 states will eliminate 14 million metric tons of CO2 emissions each year when finished. Each project is meant to be highly replicable and serve as a blueprint for future private sector ventures.

President Biden signed an Executive Order to Strengthen the Recognition of Women’s History. The Order will launch a review of all historic sites run by the National Parks Service to determine ways to better highlight the role of women, from all backgrounds, in American History.

The Senate Confirmed President Biden's nominees, Ernesto Gonzalez, and Leon Schydlower to federal judgeships in Texas. This brings the total number of federal judges appointed by President Biden to 190.

It would be great if people stopped using real atrocities as an excuse to hate on a White Girl Brand.

Even BDS does not focus on Starbucks. They haven't mentioned it since 2014.

"I'm boycotting Starbucks in support of Palestine!" No, chance are you saw a chance to talk shit about a brand that's popular and it makes you feel like you're better than everyone else. It gets notes. Why talk about actual boycotts like Chevron and HP and Sodastream and Puma when you can give people an excuse to hate That Popular Thing That Girls Like?

"But they shut down that one group for being pro-Palestine!" They shut it down with political speech as the EXCUSE. That was not about Palestine. It was about unions. That was a union-busting action. Not a political one. It was a stupid union-busting action because of the bad press it got them for supposedly being pro-Israel, but it was about the union. From the corporate perspective, it was about the union. It was a chance to take down one of the unions.

EDIT: Other claims of explicit zionism by the company as a whole have been debunked. The matter of Howard Schultz is more complicated. See below.

Boycott the company for its union-busting. A boycott without a clear message doesn't do shit, and you are wasting your time and energy, and spreading misinformation besides.

You are NOT HELPING PALESTINE by spreading misinformation. Sure, the opportunity to hate on Starbucks is going to mean more people share your past and it goes farther, but it's also going to make them think that boycotting a company that has nothing to do with Israel is going to help, rather than, say, paying attention to the gas pumps they use or the food they eat.

We must strategically focus on a relatively smaller number of carefully selected companies and products for maximum impact. We need to target companies that play a clear and direct role in Israel’s crimes and where there is real potential for winning, as was the case with, among others, G4S, Veolia, Orange, Ben & Jerry’s and Pillsbury. Compelling large, complicit companies, through strategic and context-sensitive boycott and divestment campaigns, to end their complicity in Israeli apartheid and war crimes against Palestinians sends a very powerful message to hundreds of other complicit companies that “your time will come, so get out before it’s too late!”

Many of the prohibitively long lists going viral on social media do the exact opposite of this strategic and impactful approach. They include hundreds of companies, many without credible evidence of their connection to Israel’s regime of oppression against Palestinians. Many do not have clear demands to the companies as to what we expect them to do to end the boycott, making them ineffective.

I'm not saying that Starbucks SHOULDN'T be held accountable for using the Gaza war as a point of contention in their unrelated union situation. It was a shitty thing to do, and incidentally and indirectly supported Israel.

EDIT: I've been given some information on how Howard Schultz, the CEO, has investment ties to Wiz and other Israeli companies that are actually involved with current events. This is significantly more than I was previously finding. If you choose to boycott for this reason, have at ye.

However, I do still hold to my stance that companies ACTUALLY BEING TARGETED by BDS should be the ones name-dropped in posts that feature calls to action. It's a matter of efficiency and effectiveness. The more people that are led to believe that Starbucks is the biggest bad in the room, the less people will join in boycotts and divestment of McDonald's, Papa John's, Pizza Hut, Burger King, Wiz, Airbnb, Caterpillar, Chevron, and all the other companies that BDS is saying are actually important to stop giving money to.

Back to the original post.

But.

BUT

The proliferation of specifically anti-Starbucks rhetoric as a supposed form of pro-Palestine Action is overshadowing ACTUAL ACTION. If every single post about boycotting to support Palestine mentions Starbucks, and maybe Puma or Sodastream, but doesn't mention any of the two dozen other companies that BDS states are actually crucial to making a change, including other American food franchises (that just do happen to be more stereotypically boy-popular, like pizza and burger chains), then you are ACTIVELY taking away support from the boycotts that matter.

And the reason this happens is because "Starbucks bad" feeds into the confirmation bias for people that already dislike it for being popular or overpriced or not to their taste.

So take a step back. Ask yourself, "am I boycotting Starbucks because I actually believe it will help and am listening to groups like BDS, or am I just using this as an excuse to badger people into avoiding a franchise I already dislike?"

Okay? We on the same page?

Great. Now check if your local Starbucks is unionized, if their union is asking customers to boycott THEM, and then maybe boycott anyway.

But check if it's actually doing something or just distracting you from real activism, first.

not me popping in multiple weeks late to your wip list to inform you that the concept of tim going to jason in a sex pollen situation and dick being Displeased about this flipped a switch in my fucking brain. it just spoke to me okay, i'm obsessed. i understand that there probably isn't a lot to say on the concept beyond the fic itself but i'd be thrilled with anything you'd like to share! i am RAVENOUS

Ohhhhh Anon 🤗 that one ate my brain for a solid few days when it first stole up on me, so I definitely feel you. Jealous and possessive Dick is just too good!!!

Okay so this is post-Red Robin, and Dick and Tim's relationship is still a little strained. Like they’ve reaffirmed their care for and trust in each other, they're making efforts to repair things, but yeah. Still stuff they haven’t addressed, and the comfort level hasn’t been quite rebuilt yet.

Also Bruce fucked off to build Batman Inc. and left Dick to continue as Gotham’s Batman with Damian as his Robin, so there’s still that.

Anyway, Dick is particularly invested in improving his and Tim's relationship, because he's only become more attracted to Tim since he returned from his BruceQuest more centered, more himself - but also sharper and more enchantingly graceful and competent and gorgeous than he’s ever been before. He's also turned 18, and Dick is tentatively hopeful that they can finally address the potential between them that's lurked under the surface for at least a couple of years now.

Because, haha, Dick thinks that they are BOTH aware of the long-simmering feelings between the two of them, and that Tim has just been considerate of Dick’s reluctance to start anything while Tim was still underage. He thinks that they had a kind of mutual, unspoken understanding to wait to explore those feelings until Tim was older, if they were both still unattached, and still interested. And okay, their falling out in Red Robin threw kind of a wrench into things but rebuilding their relationship now is a perfect opportunity to maybe try deepening it further 👀💘🥺💞🙏???

(HA. Tim has no fucking idea that Dick thinks of him as anything but his trusted younger brother figure 🙃)

Anyway. Jason is still around Gotham, occasionally causing trouble, occasionally helping. He mostly stays in his carved out territory, but he’ll like, deign to coordinate with the Bats for pushback against Arkham breakouts, or city-wide gang wars, or like, alien invasions, maybe.

At times, he seems to be circling the Bats. He’s made conversational overtures toward Dick when their vigilante paths cross, which Dick has warily returned. Dick has also spotted Red Hood with Red Robin once or twice; it made him tense and beeline toward them the first few times, but Hood always took off, and Red said it was just work, or Jason fucking around - that he didn't seem to be actively plotting any harm, at least.

Dick isn’t exactly happy about it, but Tim gets huffy about Dick not thinking he can take care of himself (‘what happened to equals, huh?’) so Dick has to back off. He does extract a promise from an eye-rolling Tim that he’ll call Dick for back-up if things get out of hand and Jason seems to be falling back into old, potentially Tim-maiming habits. (‘partners, remember? that rely on each other?’)

Then there's a multi-Rogue Arkham breakout. After splitting and converging in various teams to take out the rest, Batman (Dick), Hood, and Red Robin wrap up with Harley and Poison Ivy at the end.

It seems to go smoothly - for a hot second it looked like Red Robin was tagged by some kind of acid spat by one of Ivy’s flowers, but he must've dodged or was able to just quickly neutralize the substance with seemingly no side effects, because he seems okay.

Dick is anxious to get back home to check on Damian - Robin had apparently been knocked out in his and Batgirl’s fight against Scarecrow across town, and may have inhaled some gas when his mask tore.

But he stops, concerned, when he notices that Red Robin is lingering behind, not following.

He stalls harder, frowning, when Tim snags Jason’s jacket to also keep him from leaving. But Tim just flashes Dick a strained smile.

“Just want to yell at him about something, it’s fine,” Tim reassures him.

“Oh yeah, that makes me want to stick around,” Jason grumbles.

“I think you’ll want to hear me out,” Tim says, low and hoarse, fingers tightening on Jason’s jacket. He clears his throat when both Dick and Jason shoot him odd looks - or, well, an interrogative helmet tilt, in Jason’s case - and waves Dick off again impatiently. “Seriously, go. We’re fine.”

It takes Tim getting pretty insistent to actually shoo Dick away - he’s weirdly reluctant to leave them alone, gaze fixed uneasily on Tim’s hand, still gripping Jason’s jacket, the way Jason is sort of leaning into Tim, something intrigued in his body language (what does he know that Dick doesn’t?) - but Dick does eventually, reluctantly leave. He’s definitely going to interrogate Tim later to figure out what that was all about.

As you can imagine, it’s a real knife to Dick’s gut when he finds out that Tim was sex pollened, aware of it and actively fighting through it, and chose Jason to help him deal with it while Dick was RIGHT THERE. RIGHT FUCKING THERE.

I don’t think he finds out from Tim directly. Maybe from Oracle?? Maybe he’s waiting at the Manor for Tim to come by for a debriefing, and he never shows, and Dick gets increasingly worried until he looks up Red Robin’s location data and he’s. Still with Jason. For some reason. At the Bat safehouse nearest to that last battle. They’re right on top of each other, practically.

Maybe he calls Oracle to fish for info and she (not having any more idea than Tim of the Dick -> Tim feelings) gives him kind of an amused, snarky response about how oh yeah, don't worry, they’re fine 😏; I can’t say more than that, the cameras are blacked out. And Dick’s like, ‘...blacked out?’ and she’s like, ‘protocol, lol, but seriously, they’re fine.’

And Dick is like. Privacy blackout protocol? Tim’s hand on Jason’s jacket? Babs smirking so hard he can hear it through the comm? POISON IVY?

2 + 2 = 4 and Dick is NOT a happy camper. He probably like. Sits there staring at the Red Hood and Red Robin icons layered on top of each other in that apartment ALL FUCKING NIGHT, imagining what’s happening in there, wanting to yell himself hoarse and throw breakable things to shatter against the Cave walls. But he sits motionless in the dark, instead. Aching and second-guessing everything he thought he knew about where he and Tim stood with each other - when he can think through the haze of hurt, jealousy, and anger.

[INSERT A SWITCH TO EITHER JASON OR TIM'S POV FOR THEIR MARATHON SEX POLLEN FUCK SESSION 😂 WOW THEY ARE HAVING A FANTASTIC TIME WHILE DICK IS JUST. SO MISERABLE. TIM IS SO FLEXIBLE. JASON HAS SO MUCH STAMINA. YAAAAAY.]

I’m sort of divided about how Dick’s actual confrontation of Tim would go, because my dark horny Id wants jealous Dick stewing and stewing and eventually just losing it (possibly prompted by getting dosed by another mind-altering, inhibition-loosening drug? because WHY NOT) and like, borderline dub-con ambushing Tim, possibly tying him down and fucking him until he cries and learns who he belongs to

but then my mushy Id is like NO I WANT DICK TO CRY INTO TIM’S CHEST ABOUT HOW HURT HE IS THAT TIM DOESN’T WANT HIM WHEN HE’S LOVED TIM FOR SO LONG NOW, and for Tim to be like wait wait wait WHAT??? but I DO want you, I’ve loved you for so long, that’s why I didn’t want a cheap meaningless sex pollen pity fuck, that would destroy me! and then they cry on each other some more and make sweet sappy reaffirming (but also lbr intensely possessive) love

and then my SUPEREGO is like stfu you know that’s not how it would go, Dick Grayson represses the fuck out of all debilitating hurts and betrayals and upsets, he has to brood and angst like a MOTHERFUCKER first, and then probably snipe at a baffled Tim about unrelated things because he can’t talk about his feelings, and then pick petty fights with a confused, annoyed Jason about things he’d previously been letting go as hostilities had cooled

and then vent to his friends in highly coded/obfuscated language so they have to stab in the dark trying to give him relevant advice, except for Roy who oh shit accidentally figures out EXACTLY what Dick is so bent out of shape about because Jason talked to him about helping Tim out with the sex pollen incident, and what the fuck Dick are you in love with Tim??? and what the fuck Roy, did Jason GOSSIP with you about Tim, did he BRAG ABOUT FUCKING TIM, Dick is gonna fucking PUNCH HIM IN THE FACE, and Roy has to frantically talk him down.

and then Dick would eventually confront Tim slightly-too-aggressively about that one time he fucked Red Hood (if it even was just one time >:|), and was that really the best decision Tim, I’m not saying I’m questioning your judgment but he stabbed you in the chest with a Batarang Tim, I’m not saying another much safer and more appropriate person was right there Tim but I was literally right fucking there Tim, I would have fucked you so good you would never want anyone else Tim, why didn’t you want me Tim, why didn’t you choose me???

….also also, I’m undecided on whether I would want to add JayTim tentatively developing feelings from the pollen incident into the mix to make things even more messy and fucked, but honestly!!! That could be more than I want to try and juggle lol

random specific dndads hcs that are canon To Me (content warning: brief discussion of mental illness)

carol and darryl’s house is very white + millennial griege with dark flooring, open concept minimalism. carol likes interior design pinterest, and darryl can’t stand clutter. they’ve got one of those portrait gallery walls. (stainless steel fridge house)

mercedes and henry’s house is super maximalist with busy, warm coloured patterns and plants and decor on every surface. it gets dusty sometimes but most of their trinkets are gifts from other people or handmade from a craft market so they refuse to get rid of anything. (coloured vintage fridge house)

glenn lives in an apartment, it’s very undecorated bc renting is Like That, and he’s a big believer in buying impulsive treats and luxuries over any investments. big dvd bookcase. intense stereo system setup is the centerpiece of the place. has a bunch of neon signs taken from bars. (white fridge house)

samantha and ron’s place is generally anti-big light. always natural light or little lamps. dark hardwood. periwinkle walls. has a big sliding door to the backyard that’s always open with the screen closed so bugs don’t get in. lots of bookcases and rugs. (black fridge house)

henry and mercedes will keep EVERY drawing or test and put it on the fridge “to celebrate both victories and opportunities for growth!” and teen sparrow gets really private abt his art and shoves it all behind his bed frame so they can’t hang it.

he also doesn’t draw for a year after getting sent to the realms.

lark sneaks out of the house and wanders the neighbourhood/park/gas station at pretty much any chance. takes a lot of buses to random places. henry used to fight with him abt it but eventually just agrees as long as he sends a check-in text after 5 hours. they still fight abt this.

grant has harm ocd. darryl never gets diagnosed with anything but it’s likely he had religious + contamination ocd. they don’t really talk about this.

glenn has the radio or tv on all the time because the silence freaks him out.

mercedes is really passionate abt all types of craftsmanship. she takes up woodworking and upholstery after she retires.

carol had subtly hinted that she wanted one of those fancy hair heat tools for christmas for 3 years straight before caving and buying them herself.

the first time nick smoked he did it alone on their balcony so glenn wouldn’t see if he coughed.

grant and carol go to comic con together. they both pretend they’re doing it to indulge the other person but they both really enjoy it.

terry is a several-hour-long-video essay fan, any topic. sparrow and grant are into those video game lore deep dives so they send each other links.

nicky’s texts are generally incomprehensible. he thinks emojis are unironically funny.

lark has bad taste in music, like folk punk and midwest emo shit. (folk punk fans know it’s bad. don’t complain. im one of you.)

ron does not know geography. like he just doesn’t know any places.

samantha leaves a place for terry sr. at their holiday dinner table. it helps all three of the stamplers feel better.

morgan got tattoos when she was in her early twenties. in the first timeline she got a few more, and in the second she didn’t. she had her tattoos touched up before moving to hell.

the marlowe’s fence has a really busted section where scary used to practice scoring.

link does all those summer library events. he doesn’t like reading he just likes the vibes.

taylor is highly susceptible to tiktok (or whatever the time period equivalent is?) ads. bought one of those electric pots where the guy cooks in his dorm room and never uses it.

normal will rewatch the same movie a million times. he’s also really into those mediocre shows where they run for like 10 seasons even though all the episodes are the same.

rebecca and sparrow are one of those “don’t go to bed angry” couples. it’s not really working but the unspoken agreement is there.

veronica and terry love going out for brunch. scary sleeps til noon. they leave her waffles in the fridge.

scary wants more piercings but veronica says she has to wait til her other ones heal. scary is not very good at taking care of them. her helix is perpetually infected and she keeps toying with her eyebrow bar.

veronica also keeps warning her that black box dye is a bitch to lift. veronica knows this from personal experience.

link has bad posture but worries about it a lot so he’s always correcting himself.

hermie keeps a ranking of his favourite B:TAS/timmverse shows/episodes. he’s also the guy who has to bring up the fact that it’s animated on black paper backgrounds in every conversation about it.

X-Files IWTB: First Time React (Part III)

Wherein my anger overcomes my will to finish.

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere we go, Part III.

*Disclaimers*: I separate art from artist, acting was great, DD and GA did their best, my reaction is exaggerated for comedic purposes, etc. etc. etc.

Whooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo...................

Scratchy beard is over, and there is only pain, I presume, from here on out.

I’m going to try to keep this short and sweet because:

I don’t care about the plot much.

The characters are going to break apart whatever investment I have left in it.

…There’s nothing really compelling about anyone else but Mulder and Scully. Maaaaaaaaaaaybe? I’ll like Pedo Joe’s stand-off with Scully? Doubt it.

I am going to finish this movie with LIGHTNING SPEED because I caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan’t stand it, despite DD’s comedic timing and Mulderness (that is butchered by the script) and GA’s balanced grace and angst and Scullyness (that is butchered by the script); and honestly don’t think marinating in the details would be worth my time, despite the glorious opportunity to snark.

I was trying to get back to where I left off and skipped to this image of Pedo Joe:

I believe it represents my viewing experience quite accurately.

Back to it:

This scene’s not so bad: Mulder gets up to shave, working on Scully’s “scratchy beard” hint as an opportunity to free his unconscious mind by doing repetitive movements, eg. moving a razor up and down instead of quoting along to a tv. AND THAT’S A NICE TOUCH: it’s that domestic softening, that hinting at Scully’s lectures (in a good way) about tv being bad for his sleep patterns and Mulder learning to do other odd things with his hands instead.

And Scully trailing him in and beginning to change her tune when Mulder mentions the tears of blood, etc. It’s nice, it’s them. So far, so very good.

Nooooooooooooooow she’s gonna get uber jealous of Dakota Whitney

and reinterpret everything Mulder does through this stupid lens: shaving while thinking about the crime scene, letting (which he didn’t) Dakota take the fluff off his face, hanging around the FBI instead of following her back to a cozy, domestic life (which he CAN’T do because he’s tied to the case for good or ill no matter what-- they know where he lives, after all.)

Hoooooooooooooooooooooooow does Scully conclude this is about him finding his sister, hooooooooooooooow. She wasn’t even there for the longing gazes he exchanged with Drummond’s? photo, the implication being his behavior is a long-standing pattern of behavior. But as established in the last two parts, it ISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSN’T.

“It hasn’t stopped you from looking for her. …You cannot save her, not now and not ever.” THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS CASE, THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS SITUATION, THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HIS PAST, THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HIS FREEDOM THAT IS BOUGHT AND SOLD ON THE FBI’S WHIM, THIS IS NOT ABOUT YOUR PAIN AND TORMENT, THIS IS NOT. ABOUT. YOU. SCULLY.

“We need those men back!” Mulder yells-- and he is the only person doing the right thing now. And the movie will punish him and his motives for it.

The movie writers have unironically turned into early seasons' Syndicate that is writing Mulder as an egomaniacal, unbalanced man on a mission… and Scully is giving him less grace and understanding than her own self how many years ago on their first case in Oregon.

“What are you doing?” asks Scully.

“Trying to ignore you--” THAT IS NOT MULDER. THAT IS STUPIDLY IMMATURE. WHAT.

PEDO JOE JUST STOOD THERE FOR HOURS WHILE THE FBI DUG AROUND; AND ONLY STARTED FOLLOWING HIS HUNCHES WHEN MULDER ASKED HIM A FEW QUESTIONS??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

I don’t know why, but that insignificant detail broke me.

I’m done. Skipping to parts now.

I skipped to the breakup.

“You asked for me to get involved, Scully, now I’m asking you to stay involved.”

YEAH, LIKE YOU PROMISED TO DO BECAUSE THAT WAS HIS ONE CONDITION.

“You helped them already, you broke the case for them, why don’t you let the FBI deal with it?” …Scully, the case isn’t broken. I understand you need support because of Christian and Mulder is completely dropping the ball there; but Scully, your medicine has done what it can (or would if you didn't give up on him as well for some reason) for the boy but there are REAL people whose lives are in danger, right now, and need to be rescued.

Scully gave up because Mulder wouldn’t let this go. This COULD, COULD have worked if Mulder was pushing her to join him back at the FBI; but that’s not the case here. What’s going on here is the fact that he’s on a high, he’s saving lives, he needs HER help that she promised to give (and hasn’t); and yes, this is hard, yes, this is inconvenient, yes, she feels like Christian is getting second-best; but this is her partner’s freedom, his LIFE (and hers) he is winning back. Just a bit longer and they can breathe freely. THEN they can fight about the FBI, to return or not to return, etc. THEN this fight can and could happen.

Would Scully still leave then? Apparently she did in the Revival; but here and My Struggle I posits it would have been a permanent rift and not a temporary one that was later written in (or hinted at) to blur the lines of the bad writing choices.

Here’s why this scene doesn’t work: Scully’s writing is already so thoroughly broken (written about extensively here and here) that her declaration here makes no sense:

she was off-put by pedo compound but on fire while she and Mulder bounced theories after scratchy beard but off-put firmly after Whitney touched his face and was-- you get the point. On top of that, Mulder-- for as narrow-minded as his focus tends to be-- ALWAYS checks in with Scully’s emotional well-being; and it’s usually her that sets her feelings aside so they can plow forward. If Scully has an objection, Mulder will pause or come at it from another angle that will appeal to her. Scully here cannot be appealed to or reasoned with; and Mulder is only “inconsiderate” in his drive because he’s, again, WINNING HIS FREEDOM. The very thing that's kept them from meeting their son again, etc.

Mulder is STILL giving her an out: he understands she’s a doctor now, that that isn’t her life anymore (BECAUSE IT’S NOT HIS), and just needs her help ON THIS CASE.

Scully: “I cannot look into the darkness--” PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFT, get that writing out of my ears, blegh, blegh, UCKCKCKCKKCC, it’s chocking me, eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

“The darkness” is so wattpad, my word.

“I’m fine with it, Scully, I’m okay, I’m good.” …WHAT sort of response is that? It makes it seem like Mulder’s addicted to this-- and in a way, he can be. But the PROBLEM is he’s now addicted at the expense of Scully???? Even though Scully has ALWAYS been addicted to it, TOO???? But she’s not now (though she still is at times in the script???) because… beeeeeeeeeeeecaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaause????????????????????????????

Mulder: “Where else would you want me to look to find these women alive?”

Scully: “I’m asking you to look at yourself.”

Exactly, Mulder. (Unironically the Windows crashing noise… meme. Whatever.) …Scully, you’re setting yourself up for the “unreasonable little woman at home” jokes and you’re SCULLY, and why are you like this.

Mulder: “Why? I don’t think I’m the one that’s changed.”

Based. Like… you pulled a “based” out of me, wow.

Scully doesn’t want the darkness (UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK) in her home anymore. Fair. But he’s not bringing it into the home. Also, insert "there are people DYING, Kim" meme.

Another thing: “This is who I am. This is who I’ve always been” true-ish, Mulder, but not true enough. It implies you cut out her emotional needs-- which you haven’t since SEASON. TWO.-- for your quest… but also, she accepted that about you IN ALL THINGS, WHICH WAS IN SEASON SEVEN. YET. HERE WE ARE.

GILLIAN REALLY DID HER BEST WITH “PUT IT IN A BOOK” JUST LIKE SHE DID HER BEST WITH SCULLY’S REJECTION OF JACKSON IN THE MY STRUGGLE IV FINALE BUT IT’S STILL JUST. SO. AWFUL.

Wait, okay, so, this broke them up and Mulder learned from this how much he and Scully needed x/y/z for their relationship (despite how STUPID this is); and she explained how she’s at her limit and she doesn’t know what else to do, etc……………. And history repeated itself in a couple years because Mulder got depressed and gave up on them and just… didn’t… do… things.

Sidenote: I HAVE THOUGHTS about the Revival breakup that I’ll talk about sometime (that CC blamed Mulder’s depression on Colonization’s failure when, in reality, he went on the run because of other men who feared Colonization and if it DIDN’T come to pass Mulder would have been TRULY free and he and Scully could embrace life and meet William and etc. etc. etc. but instead Mulder just flogged himself becaaaaaaaaaaaaaause reasons despite winning and, yes, William was given up HOWEVER they'd now have the freedom and opportunity to meet him, etc. And yet. And yet. ANYWAY.)

SCULLY, YOU BROKE MULDER’S HEART-- THAT HURT ME. WOW.

HE CAN’T CHANGE WHO HE IS AND THIS WASN’T EVEN ABOUT WHO HE WAS BUT YOU BLAMED HIS WANTING TO HELP THOSE WOMEN ON A NONEXISTENT SAMANTHA-COMPLEX, PAINTED HIM AS AN OBSESSIVE NUT WHO THREW YOUR REALTIONSHIP ASIDE FOR THE WORK, AND MOVED OUT WHEN HE NEEDED YOU MOST WHEN YOU PROMISED, FROM THE START, TO BE THERE FOR HIM THROUGHOUT THIS CASE. WOW. WOW. WOW.

Too late for this joke-- this movie’s Scully didn’t earn it.

“HEY” Scully yells; and waits for the villain to turn around before wacking him in the head with a VERY big and probably VERY heavy axe instead of, I don’t know, shooting him. “But she’s a doctor now” I say to myself-- erecting a strawman just so I can wear off my aggressively angry energy by whacking it do death. I didn’t know that doctors, I counter to myself, who were former SPECIAL AGENTS ANNOUNCE WHEN THEY’RE GOING TO HIT THE BAD GUY WHILE BEING 5’2” AND HEAVING AN AXE OVER THEIR HEAD AT SAID BAD GUY.

Honestly me at this point:

Scully walks in and sees a woman in the midst of being chopped into sellable body parts;

and it just… hit home to me that she wanted Mulder to give up on this case, this lady, and the other women, DESPITE being on fire for other cases relating to women in the past, ala Excelsis Dei, Unruhe, Small Potatoes, etc. etc. GOOD GOING, CHUMP.

Also, Mulder’s still tranked outside in the freezing cold, despite there being a team with Scully and Skinner (I think?) and… why didn’t she yell for the team to come help Mulder? Or someone? Or, I dunno, do that NOW rather than just send Skinner out to cuddle him??

Though that’s a nice moment, to be honest.

WAIT, IT’S LITERALLY JUST THE TWO OF THEM-- y’know what? Forget. It. Why isn’t there backup? No, NO, I am not rewinding to find out.

I was showing my sis a pic of the house and she had the audacity to say “Oh, how very unremarkable” to my face before making her version of a smug face.

I’m too amused to be annoyed; but it’s that thin sibling line, y’know?

I fully support Mulder here: I’d be this annoyed, too. …I’m so tired.

His sarcastic eyebrow twitch made me bust out laughing.

Is he still going to take the majority of the blame that should not be his at all. If so, I’m. gonna. riooooooooooooooooooooooooooot.

Mulder pauses and asks Scully if she’s seen the story: that the FBI blamed Pedo Joe for the case-- and even though the guy was a pedo, this wasn’t on him. And you know what that means?????

THE VERY GROUP THAT PROMISED TO FREE MULDER THEN BACKSTABBED PEDO JOE WHO WAS WORKING IN THEIR BEST INTEREST WHICH MEANS I WAS 100% RIGHT IN MY ASSESSMENT THAT THEY CAN’T BE TRUSTED WHICH MEANS SCULLY WAS 100% WRONG IN TRYING TO SHOVE MULDER OFF THE CASE BECAUSE THEY WOULD HAVE WHOOPED HIM, TOO, IF HE DIDN’T HELP.

….dEEP breaTHS.

AND SCULLY IMMEDIATELY DENIES THE TRUTH AND HIDES BEHIND “WELL, HE’S DEAD NOW.”

WELL, I GUESS SHE WOULD HAVE SAID THE SAME IF MULDER HAD LEFT THE CASE ON HER SAYSO AND BEEN THROWN INTO PRISON. GUESS HE’S DEAD NOW.

Mulder wanted to at least clear that part of Pedo Joe’s name because it is an injustice… buuuuuuuuuuuuuuut Scully doesn’t care about justice now, even though she actively saved the lives of eviler men to later put on trial. Y’know, because they were facing JUSTICE.

Oh, the pain and the torment of Scully not caring because he was a pedo and then denying that she believed him ‘cuz he’s dead now and she doesn’t have to face the fact she was a SNIVELLING COWARD who had to be motivated to do what’s right BY A PEDO.

Isn’t this just a beautiful movie.

FINE. SHE ADMITTED SHE BELIEVED. WE’LL GIVE HER THAT.

And Mulder is willing to let it all go if she tells him what she believed-- y’know, like they used to do back in the day-- but the movie wants you to think this is new character growth for him when it’s very obviously not for even the most casual of X-Files watchers.

She has the gall to deny him his request… after she put him through SO MUCH in this movie by… I’m not reiterating, I’m tired, again.

The movie is trying to say that Scully directly contributes to Mulder’s cavetroll lifestyle by not communicating with him; which would be cool if the Revival didn’t loom over the horizon, or, more precisely, IF THIS MOVIE DIDN’T BUTCHER THIS INTERESTING IDEA. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANYWAY.

Wait. So, Scully gave up on Mulder to do her job... but was ALSO giving up on her job ala Christian becaussssssssssssssssssssse until the pedo priest told her to keep going and it saved Mulder’s life and Christian’s……………………………………………………..

Please end. PLEASE, please end.

1:38:00 of 1:48:00 left.

Mulder: “Father Joe’s prayers were answered, after all.”

I’M DONE, I’M OUT, HOW DARE YOU MAKE ME LISTEN TO THE AGNOSTIC SAY THAT HACKED STATEMENT. LET ME RUN OUT INTO THE NONEXISTENT SNOW AND LET ME HURL.

wOW. Pedo Joe has been made into a saint I guess because he didn’t give up. And I guess that’s supposed to be comforting for Scully because she didn’t give up, either, even though she did.

WAIT, MULDER DIDN’T KNOW SHE GAVE UP. HE DIDN’T. KNOW. SHE GAVE. UP.

Okay, see, Mulder was wildly out of character this movie, too; but the above realization is… not even Pilot Mulder because Scully didn’t have to say a word in the Pilot for him to read her moods. He’s always been in-tune with her (despite profiling, yadda yadda yadda); so, to suddenly put on blinders to hide away that "ability" just so the writers can extend that miscommunication over the ONE aspect they “get” about each other is laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazy, and baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad, and INFURIATING.

I just realized this movie is completely my vibe and that’s why I’m so passionate about this.

Mulder: “If Father Joe were the Devil, why would he say the opposite of what the Devil might say?”

I. Died. on the spot.

Look, you don’t have to have a religious background to know that this is the most braindead, stupid, inane take ever: cult leaders and other villainous exploiters have used this to their advantage, masking their motives behind religious speak.

(Sis--I’m fake crying from frustration and she’s nearby-- says: “Because he’s the Devil.”)

Why does Scully get weepy after Mulder says “Don’t give up” and STILL. INSIST. ON LEAVING HIM??? EITHER PERMANENTLY OR TO DO THE SURGERY OR BOTH????? UNTIL HE GIVES HER A HUG, I GUESS??

i. loathe. this. movie.

Now Mulder’s sayin’ “hey, ‘bout that kid? If you don’t feel like doin’ the surgery doodad, then we can bounce to vacay and let him deal, yo yo.” Again, Scully wasn’t the only character butchered in this movie. Was this nice of him to say? Yes. Is this a Mulderism? NO. A Mulderism would be to encourage her to do the right thing and promise a vacay AFTER.

1:40:25. Eight minutes left.

Okay, you had your pretty romcom moment, can this END NOW????

I can live with the chest pat. It’s fine. But, again, it’s sort of… a moment from a better movie.

...Credits? CREDITS??? Where's the vacay??????????

(There was a perfectly comedic moment when the music was just kicking up and then POW Chris's face was just THERE while I was trying to figure out what in the world was going on.)

WHAT IS THIS BARBIE DIARIES MUSIC AND WHERE DID I COME FROM AND WHY IS IT OVER MULDER AND SCULLY ON THEIR COOL ISLAND VACAY??????????????????????????????????????????
