Happy 40th Anniversary to the original Daicon 4 Film! It was first screened at Daicon IV opening ceremonies in Japan on August 20th, 1983. Hideaki Anno, Hiroyuki Yamaga and Takami Akai would later go on to found Gainax. Question: All the kids and young people in Gaza witnessing their parents, siblings, cousins get murdered by Israel, their houses being pulverised, babies killed, dead bodies in their neighborhoods and ice cream trucks, father carrying his kids body p@rts in a plastic bag, aid denied, power gone...none of them will grow up normal and super chill. In addition to the trauma and other mental disorders, they will most likely want to (rightfully) avenge their families and friends' deaths, fight for their land that was bombed and have nothing but sheer hatred for Israel.

And then when they come together to fight for their land and families, and maybe give their resistance movement/group a name, will the western media automatically label them as terrorists from Day 1? Will their goals and objectives be termed as terrorism?

Because this will most certainly happen. Their childhood and youth is irreparably ruined in the most atrocious ways possible. You can't expect them to be super chill about the things they've seen.

But I'm sure Israel and the west will waste no time in labelling them as some barbaric terrorists who only want Israelis gone...

And they'll ask the future generations,"do you c0ndEmn this movement/group of people" before anything else...

How do you stay creative while working full time? :)

I don't know, I just do stuff. Not art stuff, really! I think sometimes that I have to maintain a base minimum of Stuff Going On to stay above the gravity well of Comfy Bed All the Time No Need To Get Up And Do Things. There's an inertia to stuff, you know? Sometimes when you're busy it's easier to just maintain the momentum of getting things done. I don't always get stuff done as quickly as I'd like--the fact that I'm doing stuff all the time doesn't mean that the stuff I'm doing is necessarily productive. That's a good thing, though, because creativity has to be fueled from somewhere. There's got to be non-creative time for that part of the brain to recharge and rest, so it's not bad to have a job that doesn't demand that kind of thinking.

I did a lot this weekend and almost none of it was creatively productive in a normal sense. I got some pottery done on saturday morning, and then met a friend for sushi, went to my dad's to sandblast and powdercoat car parts and got a milkshake, went for a walk in the woods to pick tiny flowers, met my brother for dinner, and played DnD until midnight before driving back home. Today I planted hydrangea, hauled flagstone into place, dug up grass and tilled it over, and put mulch down. I made a roast for lunch and played DnD in my other campaign for a few hours, then started mixing down the clay slurry into slip for casting, which has to rest for the next 24 hours. In a little while, a friend and I are going to do an online movie marathon, and tomorrow--monday--I've got a board game night after work. Then the next week is pottery tues/thurs/saturday, dinner with my other brother and his wife on wednesday, DnD friday and sunday again.

You know what all of those little appointments with friends do? Force me to manage my time well. Force me to stay on and not just let the day get away from me. I rest when I need to but I also put really concerted effort in to spending time doing stuff that I enjoy.

People often say that they create art from a specific emotion, but to me, in order to make art, to make art sustainably, you have to be happy enough to want to put new things in the world. They don't have to be happy things. But you have to be in the world to reflect it out. Sometimes that's work. Sometimes that's friends.

Work on joy; the art will follow. That's just what's true for me.

to preface this post i am anti-advertising i think we should explode the entire industry but it's sooo funny when you people make posts like "and they don't even work!!" like. sorry to be the bearer of bad news but yes they do. that's why we have to put up with so many despite everyone hating them and thinking its annoying. because they actually work really well and make a shit load of money

#it actually would be way better if they didnt work and made no money bc businesses would abandon them #this isnt like stocks where everythings abstract and is essentially gambling (i dont understand stocks) #like ppl in the ad industry create things. that make a tangible and quantifiable impact on the business #which is then used in further ad planning. it is NOT all smoke and mirrors #like its fake in that the industry is not providing a necessary service the way like. grocery stores are #but its not the level of fake where everything is abstract like theres deliverables #moreover there is an extensive body of academic work specifically on how to make ads more effective #ALSO i think some of u views ads like. as if they have a win condition. which is you buy product #but in current advertising this is pretty rare and comparatively ineffective #which is why you see MANY ads which dont seem to be selling anything in particular. or which have nothing all to do with the product #the 'win' condition for THAT kind of ad is something more like 'viewers remember our name' #like. ex i would say ads for temu have not been effective on me bc i havent bought anything from them #but temu probably thinks they were SUPER effective on me because i talked abt them like 5 different times at work #and i do in fact know exactly what the company does and what they sell #and they were able to capitalize on the reputations of existing companies (wish shein etc) to build their own brand #good idea generator

Ok OSP isn’t on tumblr BUT in one of their videos Red talked about how before cellphones were invented, essentially no stories had anything close to a system of how a phone works. No people able to easily communicate with each other whenever, wherever, and forever. Nowadays we can have two people phone each other details about how to take down the baddie and even have it be a plot point when they can’t do that.

What I’m getting at is how I think something like that is going to happen with all his new A.I. stuff coming out. I’m talking about chat gpt, image and face emulators, voice A.I.’s.

So far the only thing I’ve seen close is how in the new movie Nimona which (spoiler):

the director says how that wasn’t her confessing to the murder of the queen but a fake, a clone or whatever

And that just barely comes close to the idea of A.I. framing someone

In the future, maybe 5 years I expect to see all sorts of stories that integrate the use of A.I. to fake people and drive forward the plot and storytelling.

I’m half-convinced that the reason shit like the Backrooms is taking off now is because the up-and-coming generation of creators contains a disproportionate number of folks who were allowed to play janky early 2000s FPSes unsupervised when they were like nine years old and experienced wandering into a part of the level the designers never intended for you to go and getting trapped because the terrain collision is all fucked up as a form of trauma.

As an outsider looking in, IE someone whos only exposure to Genloss is through what my Twitter friends are freaking the fuck out about, i gotta respect ranboos consistent callbacks to the saw franchise

anyways now that thats out of the way can we talk about how this motherfucker managed to not only track down and secure an abandoned mall, but also managed to get a film permit for the location, something that's notoriously difficult due to safety concerns

Like abandoned malls themselves aren't uncommon, the US has a fuckload of them since malls are a dying breed, but what is uncommon is finding one that's so recently abandoned that you don't have to worry about things you usually have to worry about with abandoned locations (looters, exposed wires, rot, mold, etc)

This implies that, unless ranboo was STUPID lucky with timing, they were literally on the lookout for any malls in the area that were gonna be shutting down, then the SECOND they found one they went “hey wait can i film here”

the only other option is that this crazy son of a bitch bought a mall MONTHS in advance specifically to secure it for filming, and that fact that thats the most likely option due to how film production usually goes impresses me beyond anything else because of the mere implication that ranboo bought/rented a fucking mall

I have some unfortunate news.

While it's not confirmed either way yet, it is likely that Season 2 will be Earthspark's final season.

Recent information has shown that he show has been, to put it quite frankly, a flop. By their own fault, Hasbro has only lost money from it. Earthspark was badly marketed, had mediocre toys accompanying it, and was hardly ever advertised-- not to mention the major review-bombing done by transphobes online after their discovery of its queer representation. All of this makes it highly unlikely that Hasbro will even attempt to continue the show after Season 2. (Edit: Check reblogs for clarification.)

I'll keep you updated on any further information.
