ONLY THE TRUE ART CLASS FUCK-UPS KNOW THE SCORE – GET MUTILATED!
PIC INFO: Spotlight on “The Mutilator” (undated, early 2000’s), as seen in Enid’s art class in the comic book movie/comedy “Ghost World” (2001), directed & co-written by Terry Zwigoff. Artwork by David Bankins.
Seriously though, you are definitely one of the real ones if you even remember this, let alone know where this is from. Lol! 💢🔨

Ghost world and finding your self
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
2001 Ghost World is one of my favourite movies and I thought it would be rather fitting for my first post. It follows Enid and Rebecca during the summer after they graduate from high school and try to figure out what's next.
When I first watched Ghost World I was a much simpler and to some extent lesser version of myself. Just like Enid a young girl who has just embarked on the next stage of her life and is looking to find herself amongst all the pressures and changes going on around her I too was a young girl looking to find herself facing pressures and challenges.
After I watched it for the first time I began to idolise Enid as the perfect example of what wanted to be cynical, witty, and most importantly unapologetically herself. I was less inspired by her and more wanted to become her obsessively watching the movie over and over studying her, the way she dressed her actions, her humour, and her personality. Why be myself when I could be somebody else?
But Anyone who has seen the movie knows that Enid is not someone to be idolised, she is a flawed, irritable, and quite frankly unlikeable person She can't commit to a plan for her future she gets, jealous easily and she disregards the people that care for her.
After watching the movie and reading the comic over and over I came to realise this fact. But what I also realised is that although Enid was flawed it didn't stop being herself and I think that is something that can be admired. When trying to figure out who you are you often feel the need to become a whole new person and dispose of all your old characteristics. What Enid taught me is that that is simply not going to help me to truly be myself, to find yourself you have to speak your mind and make mistakes. I am my flawed characteristics, they are what make me, me.

Dark comedies for the girlies, that arent ''sigma male'' movies, but for the girlies
Welcome to the dollhouse (dir. Todd Solondz) - A story about a young girl living a life of bullying and fear, trying to fight back but fails. Highly recommend it if u like disturbing but funny flicks. Yhara zayd made a great videoessay about that movie.
Sugar n Spice (script by the one and only Lona Williams): WAY more lighthearted comedy. its about a group of cheerleaders robbing a bank so their pregnant captain can live after getting kicked out from home. super sweet, kind of dark.. and very 00s! every main girl looks like they have a tumblr blog dedicated to coquette fashion fr
ghost world (based off of daniel clowes comic by the same name) its about 2 best friends who find themselves without a path or plan after graduation. greatly cynical and mean, but in a good way. very poignant aesthetic
